Awful, Terrible, No-good Layabout
PlacesKageyama Penitentiary
The base of operations of the Yokai squadron. Created 8 years ago to facilitate the imprisonment of ‘special’ cases, the Kageyama Penitentiary is equipped with state of the art prison cells, with no asset unspent to ensure the imprisonment of its various occupants. These occupants are, namely, Demon Slayers who have fallen off the good graces of society, or the reigning emperor. It is quite huge, and features many facilities within each cell, allowing for some recreational time even within their four walls, essentially turning them into fairly acceptable one-room living quarters. Due to the special treatment these criminals get, however, many of the staff are displeased, and some do go out of their way to make sure that the inmates get what they deserve.
The prison’s size and general facilities have recently attracted the attention of the government. Due to the lack of manpower to combat the rise of demons, there has been a suggestion to turn the prison into a site of operations for Slayers, and the ones who will be doing the heavy lifting will be the inmates within. Kept on a short leash, the inmates within will be pitted against overwhelming odds in the shadows, to further the ambitions of those in the light.
PeopleCaptain Kisaragi Hayato
A captain under Prison Commander Miyamoto. Like many of the other officers, he does not see Miyamoto as anything but a tyrannical man who uses the prison as a way to further his reputation in the eyes of the emperor. This, however, does not mean that he does not share the same impressions of the prisoners as his superior. While somewhat more reasonable than Miyamoto, he still treats most of the prisoners, if not all, as the expendable assets that they are. Due to his open defiance to his superior and naysaying, he has since been 'promoted' to being the newly formed Yokai squad's handler. His appearance is quite notable, in that he wears a black eyepatch over his right eye. He has black, short hair, that he slicks backwards, and is quite the tall man, standing at 6'1".
Known as the One-Eyed Bandit amongst peers, Kisaragi, when compared to most of his peers, is an accomplished samurai and marksman, and is capable of wielding sword and gun in tandem. However, he is not a Demon Slayer, making him quite lackluster when placed alongside his quarries. The most any of the Slayers can say is that he's certainly trying his best, and he truly can hold his own in a fight, though not really that impressively.
Major Miyamoto Jun'ichi
Prison Commander Major Miyamoto Jun'ichi is, as his title states, the man in charge of Kageyama Penitentiary. Easily summed up by both prisoners and the men under him as am irredeemable asshole who is only looking out for himself and only himself, there is no one within Kageyama walls that enjoys his company, and he knows it. He just doesn't care. He hates that he is in charge of some facility made to contain hoodlums amongst hoodlums, and wants to be part of something bigger rather than this no-good hellhole. When the orders came from above to turn the facility into an operating frontline base, at least in appearance, he only took it because Captain Kisaragi had sarcastically suggested that if they did a good job of it, he'd be promoted.
He may have been a fairly competent samurai, but there is no actual record to say so except his loudmouth. His aim with a gun is quite fair, but nothing more than what is expected of a military man.
Private First Class Minazuki Hayami
A medic operating in Kageyama Penitentiary. Under Captain Kisaragi's command, she is part of the staff that handles the daily goings-on in the prison. She transferred in from a front-line unit where she used to operate as a combat medic. Now, she mostly mans the infirmary. Prisoners and guards alike have some sort of affinity for her due to her extremely soft-spoken behaviour and generally polite and warm persona. Due to how much Kisaragi, as well as a lot of the other guards, are quite protective of her, it is ill-advised to put any moves on her, even if one is part of the staff. Prisoners getting sent to solitary due to some misplaced words around her is not a rare occasion. She isn't a very capable samurai, and even less capable a marksman. She does try her best, if that amounts to anything. She is, however, very dedicated to her job, and very experienced in patching up the injured. She has a particularly frighteningly pushy side to her when it comes to treating the sick and wounded.
Corporal Takashima Mori
A soldier under Captain Kisaragi's command. One of the few 'originals' of the Captain's unit, he is absolutely loyal to his Captain, and works as hard as any of his comrades. Despite this, however, he is described as polite and courteous. He shares his superiors' disdain for the prisoners and their acts, but this furthers his goal of trying to reform them. He takes pains to make sure that none of them are mistreated. Though his rank is lacking, he is quite the capable swordsman, and is said to be able to match actual Slayers. He has never tried to, however, and his lack of proper training in the various styles, as well as the lack of a nichirin blade, makes him ill-suited for anti-demon combat.
The Hyottoko Gang
A group of imprisoned swordsmiths. Named after their masks that they still refuse to remove from their faces, they are a group of no less than 8 (the number changes depending on who you ask), and all of them have been tasked to ensure the nichrin blades of the Yokai are in serviceable condition. Despite their general aloof attitude, the Hyottoko Gang are very dedicated to their work, and each of them have a burning passion for making weapons and maintaining them. They are referred to as Isamu, Futaba, Sanada, Shigeru, Gotou, Rokugan, Nanashi, and Yattsu, and can be identified by the numbers on their black haori. While most of them generally behave the same, there are some minute differences between them. Isamu is a little more mature than the rest, for instance, while Futaba is more stoic, as compared to Sanada, who is more playful. Ladies should try to avoid Shigeru, who is a renown womaniser. Gotou, Rokugan, and Nanashi are triplets, and are quite tough to tell apart. Yattsu is a loner who keeps to himself. Nonetheless, the Yokai’s nichirin blades are in good hands if these swordsmiths are with them.
Aka Manto
A young imprisoned Slayer. Easily recognisable by his shaved head and uncomfortable smirk, he is a renown pervert. Rumor has it that he was imprisoned because his streak of groping defenseless girls in the market came to an end purely because he put his hand on the wrong girl. He received a broken arm, and, to add insult to injury, was arrested for it. Despite this, he keeps up his streak of copping a feel on both prisoners and guards whenever he can. He has a fairly long streak of sentences to the solitary cells. Despite his mischief, he is a Slayer as well, and wields the Breath of Water. He can be competent when he feels like it, but is too much of a horndog to accomplish much.
Wanyudo
An imprisoned Slayer. Middle aged. He is most recognisable for his unruly hair that sticks out in all directions from his head, almost like black flames. He is fairly portly and has a great bushy beard that covers part of his face from his nose downwards. He was imprisoned for unknown reasons, though the word on the rumor mill says that he was trying to undermine the current emperor. Despite this, he is a very good-natured man, and is as boisterous as they come. He wields the Breath of the Wheel, a style that focuses on circular movement to increase momentum and power.
