Fantasy Katta & Lexa's fairytales

It didn't take long for Soren to fall asleep, with Kel, stroking his hair as his lullaby. He soon drifted back into dreamland.

Varg studied the boy as he lay there, while Varg and Valla spoke. Kel certainly had a way with humans.
He had seen it before, how he would play with them, luring them and gaining their trust.
Somehow this felt a bit different. Still as charming as ever, and as playful, but the cold, predatory face behind the playful facade, seemed a bit softer with Soren. He wasn't sure of course. Kel could be difficult to read.

Kel waited until Soren was deeply sleep before he carried him to a bed, made out off fur and wool. After he had done so, he walked back to Varg and Valla.

Kel smiled at Valla and stroked her hair back "so what brings you here this time? Someone I need to take care of?" he asked curiously.

Valla smirked and raised an eyebrow "for once, I just came to visit" She admitted.

Kel nodded and looked at Varg "do you know how I met Valla?" He asked

Varg shook his head. He wasn't there when they met, but he had seen her before, both alone and with Kel. She was probably his best friend in these woods; perhaps even more than that.

Kel looked at Valla fondly, thinking back on that time, and everything they had shared since. Sadness also flickered in his eyes, because he was always reminded how little time he would have with her. Every time she came back, Kel could see she had gotten older. But for him, it hadn't been much time passing on. Years flickered before his eyes. He saw the birth and death in to many thing. Nothing that lasted. No companion that stayed by his side. He also knew he had to let every being live their life freely. He couldn't do anything to prevent them form fading away.

"Can I tell him the part where I first met you and so forth? You can tell the rest a time you want to, if you ever do." Kel asked for premission, knowing some of it was very personal for Valla.

Valla considered it before she nodded "Go on" she said and gave him a small smile.

Kel looked at Varg again "She was always the warrior. Even as a girl. She was beaten, bruised and wounded. All alone in the night.... She charged at me, with murderous intent gleaming in her eyes. Despite her wounds and weakened stated. She was set on fighting to the end. I stopped her, needless to say. But I admired her courage and will. I could see, that this girl... Given the chance and the opportunity, might become one of the greatest human warriors. Little did I know that she was such a catholic. But I wasn't wrong. Since then she's been a loyal friend and we've shared many good moments, I guess you have seen a bit" Kel finished.

Valla looked surprised at Varg. "What, have you been watching?"

Varg was a bit moved by their story, despite the darkness of it, he could see the joy and pride in his eyes as he spoke of her; it was obvious he cared a great deal about this human. She was more than his usual pet.
He was hesitant by Vallas question, realizing that he could easily come off as uncanny or even as a threat.
"Sometimes. I like to keep an eye on these woods," he said. "Don't worry. I give privacy when privacy is needed."
He felt he should say something more, something about where he came from, to help her understand, but instead, he looked away.

Valla blushed a bit thinking about inappropriate things Varg could have seen, but was a bit relieved about what he said. "well alright.. I'm gonna go and rest, it's been a long journey."

Kel looked at her and stroked some hair away from her face "sleep well"

Valla smiled before she walked away.

Kel looked at Varg "Do you want me to prepare the rabbits you brought?" he asked being a bit hungry himself. He also thought it would be easier for them to talk, having something to distract them with.

The tension was pent up. And Kel didn't know what kind off attention would be alright with Varg. When the other had been just a presence, he did pretty much as he wanted. But, since Varg had a form and a voice now, Kel was more aware of his behaviour. Some things could be offending.

And mostly, he just wanted Varg to feel free to tell him anything, or talk about anything. He was curious as to how this... Creature's mindset worked.

"Go ahead," Varg said. "I don't eat much."

They prepared the fire and the food. As they sat by the fire, the sound of insects and running water filled the night air.
"This is interesting," Varg said. "You lead an interesting life." He looked at Kel.

Kel leant back and gave Varg an interesting look "why don't you elaborate?" he encouraged, finding it very amusing.

Not because it was funny at all, but he could finally ask. He could listen to Varg, and not the other way around, for once. And who knew how long that could last.

Everything ended eventually, sometimes faster than a blink. He was used to that. But he sure was enjoying himself for as long as it lasted.

"You have walked this earth for so long, and you are still curious. How is that?" he said, and paused for a second, looking at Kel - he didn't wait for an answer. "You are perhaps the only thing I've been curious about for the past fifty years."
He looked away.
"This has all been so distant for me. It was distant long before I distanced myself. People lived and died in what seemed to me like a summer. How do you still do it?"

Kel gave him a sad smile "you know, there is still some things that are more permanent than a human life. But you have to just take the little sparks and joys and savour it. Even if you get hurt. And I only remember five centuries of my life, I'm almost like a child! Except that I know more than my years, more than I should for that little time. But I've never been a human, that's the difference. I'm a hunder, and I don't have a human consciousness." Kel admitted. His mind thinking back on those things he had surprisingly learned about himself, when he was he understood language's he couldn't remember spoken or read before. Among other skills and knowledge.

He studied Varg as he did, his eyes glazed a bit over and he asked. " why did you not take a form for so long? " Kel's hand reached out and touched Varg's cheek, so lightly you could barely feel it. A second after, he snapped back and shook his head. "I'm sorry." The hulder gazed away and bitt his lip. "I could imagine that it must be very personal. I shouldn't have asked." And I shouldn't have touched. Kel thought silently.

Varg was surprised by his touch. But he didn't mind, not at all.
"Well... For a long time, the company of my pack was all I needed. Life was simple. Wolves are routine-creatures. But then I met Serena."
He paused for a moment, looking out at the water.
"I suppose I became curious. I wanted to speak again. She also spoke to me, even though I didn't answer, not for a long time. Not unlike you," he said, and smiled. "But Serena wasn't... Things got complicated. I had to stay undercover for a while. And even when I didn't have to, I still did. My place was by Serena's side, and she left. She had strayed too far for me to come with her. The wolves wouldn't take me back into the pack. And the longer you're alone, the more at home it feels."

Kel listen with interest and didn't interrupt "I see. Do you ever think you will find... A home again, or will you just stay a stray?" Kel asked, though between the lines he was actually asking if it was to late for Varg to find a place he belonged to again.. A question he often asked himself. He also wanted to know more about this Serena, but he didn't want to press his luck to much tonight.

Kel had people around him, they came and went.. But even he knew there was something missing. And he wasn't naive either. The dreams he had, and some of the creatures that had seek him out, and brief mentions he had heard all added up into each other. It was just the pain and pressure on his chest that made him want to ignore it, and turn the blind eye. He was consciously avoiding finding out about his past. But he had a feeling change was in the wind. And it was dangerous.

Varg chuckled; "A stray... Never thought of it like that. I don't know, a home seems... Distant. But who knows, right? Life is long," he said, with a somewhat sad smile. He had felt Kel was someone who could truly understand the pain of a seemingly never-ending life, but he began to realize that he, unlike Kel, simply wasn't built for it. Because of that difference in nature, Kel would never understand, not completely. It was his nature to live a long life. But, that didn't mean he couldn't teach him a thing or two.

Kel studied Varg silently for a while. His face turned expressionless and eyes calculating.

He sight and returned the sad smile, a glimt of grief in his eyes. "You know... There is always hope. If you tire of life.... You would have to start a knew one. Begin over again. But everybody and everything dies in the end..." Kel stood up and light a torch "If you will come with me, there's something I would like to show you"

Kels words stuck in Vargs head. A bew life; is that whatKel was trying to do?
He got up to follow Kel, curious of where this was going.

Kel began to walk, following the water that came in to the cave, deeper into the mountain, and down. "This place is aicent. Nothing is as old as the earth you walk, and the water you drink. Even the most acient creatures gets old or tired of life. They might not look like old men, but there is nothing left for them to see on this earth. They tire, and they also die in their time." He spoke as he walked, so the mood wouldn't get to sour.

He stopped when he reached a cave deep down and light the toches in the room. The walls, and floor was clean and almost shiny. There was no dirt here. Long forgotten runes decorated the wall, a language almost none knew anymore.

Paintings was laying around, some hung up, others in a pile. A few faces being drawn over and over, jet they had no names. "You might have seen this place before... It's where I go when I dream. I like to think of this as the place of truth." For Kel, it wasn't place of truth for others, but for himself. Where he was more honest with himself. Where he couldn't hide from his lies.

Varg had listened with some sorrow to his words of old age; although he looked at though he was in his thirties, he sometimes felt like one of these ancient creatures, tired of life.
As they entered the strange room, he suddenly felt more awake. There was something familiar with the faces scattered around the room, and the runes felt as if they whispering to him, but just too low for him to hear. The paintings felt almost alive, every shadow, every crease was as if they were standing there, behind the frame. One face, in particular, drew his attention almost immediately. He had seen it many times; Fafner.
He was like a ghost of his dreams, reoccuring when his mind would wander into Kels disturbing nightmares and memories.

Kel studied Vargs reactions carefully. He walked over to the painting in the middle of the room, the one that had captured Vargs gaze. "You have seen him somewhere, haven't you?" Kel asked questionably. Kel studied the man on the painting, he was a man you looked upon and immediately felt something, good or bad. Kel had a deep respect for him, he didn't know why. But somehow he knew he should be frighten. But for some reason, nothing about this man scared him, rather the opposite. So what made him so special. Kel knew he often dreamt about him, but the dreams faded quickly after he had awoken.

Kel sometimes wished he understood why he felt so complicated whenever he looked at the man he most often painted, but other days he was relieved he didn't. Whenever he woke up, and the pain inside, in his heart and mind, was unbearably agonizing. Those times it was a blessing when it faded away. The memories and dreams he forgot, but not the pain. He always remembered the pain. For him it was like a warning, to not dig into his past.

And he didn't.

Not so far.

But even he knew there would come a time, when he no longer could look away. For some reason Kel could feel it deep into his bones, that the time was nearing. Change was coming.

The Norns wasn't done with him yet.

Varg hesitated to answer; the dreams he had seen were mostly coated in agony; but other times they had portrayed glimpses of a love story; apparently not one with a happy ending.
Varg knew about Kel's memory loss of memory. So many years, forgotten. What Kel didn't know, was that when Varg was a young man, he had seen him. He was standing on a hill on the battlefield, covered in blood and surrounded by bodies. His eyes was glowing, and he looked straight at him, with a look of fury he had never seen the like of again.
He was a known man back then, known for his excellence in battle, both by his own hands and through his army. He was a great leader. It was almost a shame they hadn't fought for the same team.
"I have seen him before, but your dreams are cryptic, and don't tell me much. Only that you loved this man."

Kel nodded and looked at the man with great sorrow "I've always known he was important. It hurts to look at him, and somehow... I think he would be greatly disappointed if he ever saw how things are today."

Kel had an hollowness inside of him, he didn't know where it came from. But he thought it might be one of the reasons he felt so lonely and meaningless. Kane had somehow managed to fill it a bit, for a while. But he knew he couldn't continue with the demon. It brought nothing good. Not that he was good himself. But he wasn't stupid, he knew when he should let someone go. Hopefully before it got worse.

But the man he painted so often, he was someone he would never let go, no matter how bad it might be. He often woke in agony, the scar on his chest burning in unbelievably pain. That always happened when he dreamt about that man.

Suddenly he turned and looked straight at Varg "You've seen my dreams?"

Varg was surprised; "you said I might have seen this place before... I thought you knew."
He paused and looked at the pictures before continuing.
"It's one of my gifts. Although, it's been a long time since I've had it under proper control. My mind wanders... Sometimes further than I intend it to."

Kel studied him. "I ment the room since you've been following me from time to time... But I don't mind. Well.. I don't really know exactly what you've seen."

He rather found it interesting, if Varg had seen his dreams, he might know more than he think. It could be very useful further on.

That was if Varg stayed.

Kel walked over to Varg, closing the distance between them and made him look him in the eye. "I understand.. It's alright. But I've also noticed over time that you've been... Fading. Is that what you want? To leave this world behind?" he asked him. But something in his tone held understanding for it, if Varg wished to let go.

Kel let go and took a step back. "I would miss you, at least"

Varg couldn't help but smile by his warm words.
"This face is but a mask, this whole body is a costume. It takes energy to keep it up."
He took a couple of steps back, and held his arms out, palms up. "Would you like to see me let go?"
Without waiting for an answer, his body slowly turned into dark grey smoke before Kels eyes. The smoke spread out through the room, crawling the walls and hovering the stone floor.
"This is my form now," he said. Only Kel could hear his voice. "The face I've chosen to carry when I've been with you, is the face of a dead man. A man who died in the war of < >."

Kel gave the smoke a sad smile. "what I meant was stop existing all together.... I have noticed about the form you took being what you said, just a mask... But I rather enjoy it. For my own selfish reasons. Even though that is your true form... Wouldn't you want to become something more? " his tone was sad, and sounded way beyond his years. He didn't like it to much, that Varg dissolved, he understood his point. But for Kel it tasted a bit to much of loosing something he had just gotten. He had waited for Varg, and even if he was invisible and mute, there was still some company in him. That he was greatful for. "maybe you could tell me more about this war? Since you still talk" if he could physically touch him, he was still very pleased that Varg spoke to him. "If you don't want to, we could continue talking about me.. But I bore myself"

The smoke gathered, and his body reappeared in front of Kel. He looked at him. "I don't mind this form. It was mine, once. I wasn't always like this."
He wandered through the room and stopped in front of a picture of Kane. He looked different. It was him, but from a long time ago.
"What has he told you about your life before? What do you remember about the city of < >?"
