"Last time we never got called witch, maybe bitch- plenty of mobs with pitchforks."
Zyn remarked as she listened to the mob, eating a small bit of food as she waited for the mob to relax before she could sleep. When she heard a voice, she summoned the spectral blade- her eyes and hair returning to their magically altered state.

"Friend of yours Bartuc? and I would seriously question your sex life if you think I'd be willingly with this scum- even if he wasn't an inanimate sword."

The demon king grinned as he said her mana transform again. "Bartuc wasn't my friend little lady, but he was my father's vassal. A demon enamored with humans, building excessive harems in his palaces of blood". He laughed and began to step forward toward the pair and continued saying, "Right now you are putting your life at a knife's edge. If that old fool wanted, he could have taken your life just by accepting even a miniscule amount of his powers". He let his words hang on the air and waited just before crossing the threshold of the dumpster's corner. "but I have not come here to fight, just to offer you a clue to start you on your journey".

"NO, do not listen to this monster ZYN. Whatever he is offering is ruin"!
The blade sung and heated up at the sight of the demon king. There was an urging from bartuc, nudging her to move down the alley.

Doc nodded, watching the movement. He scanned the area- unfortunately missing the mischievous duo as he searched his list of quarantine protocols- he had hoped he would never need to use the major outbreak and city protocols but he immediately set into action.

"I will need a runner to retrieve my equipment from Lord Grakken's Manor- give him this letter and bring the red bag labeled Lockdown. I will need to gather any wounded by the creatures in an isolated wing of the hospital. Only send doctors to attend to the critically wounded- and only with personal protection equipment, they may use the extra's from my equipment."

"I will need samples gathered from each creature- I dispatched three more enemies, only one an apparent mutant but I had no time to verify their deaths. I would recommend setting martial law in the area- send any guard not watching the hospital- augmented by willing volunteers to patrol the streets. A single infected can spread the contagion like wildfire. If you have any logistics specialists, I have copy's of my list with closer details. I will need the recovered child taken to wherever you want me to investigate the infection, bring a few of your elite guards with me in case we have to purge the hospital."
The citizens of the capital had already been feeling unrest for the past year, but now this declaration of martial law threatened the stability of the capital. Captain Helhaim's body looked like a nuclear bomb was about to go off. As violent mana was ripped from his body by his own accord, he held a sphere of power in his right hand. It crackled with lightning and was unstable, looking like it would explode at any moment. As blood dripped from his mouth, he tossed the sphere into the air and roared to his men, " The beacon is LIT. SEND THE FASTEST RUNNER WE HAVE TO LORD GRAKKEN'S MANOR. AND AS FOR THE REST OF YOU, MARTIAL LAW IS DECLARED. GO BACK TO YOUR HOMES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE"!

Immediately the citizens flared up in protest, amidst the bells which were ringing throughout the capital city. Large ancient belltowers which an antiquated architecture not used for hundreds of years sung for the first time in a generation. The cascade would sweep from Hellhaim's district all the way to the inner sanctum of the palace where the emperess resided. Together with his men, Helhaim and the city guard began to quell the crowd which roared with a fury strong enough to start a battle.
Meanwhile an advisor to him slipped past the chaos and moved over to doc. " the truth is Doctor, we have been facing an undead crisis for weeks now. Their master has become far more brazen in recent days, but we are trained to fight men. to fight dragons, not disease. Fret not, you are authorized to do what is necessary to solve this crisis unless the queen opposes you". The young woman pushed her glasses up with her wrist, hiding the glint of power escaping from her. A pair of knights appeared next to her clad in hooded robes. One tall and muscular, with a seven foot blade resting on his back with his mana. The other a slender clad in garb similar to Doc, except he wielded a couple of scalpels shimmering with a very controlled thin layer of mana. "we shall accompany you to barracks where the girl was taken. We have already been informed to exterminate the infected if need be".

Aue's character, charlie, and grell would not know of the bells ringing. However Caelum, zyn, and doc would know since they are at the capital right now. Anyone who would be taking official roads or walk around the capital will be met with interrogation and maybe arrest. so keep that in mind.

Caelum straightened up, brushing imaginary dust off his sleeves as he let Elizabeth’s words settle in the air. He noted her embarrassment but refrained from teasing her, focusing instead on the moment's progress. "Exactly. You’re starting to understand that guiding mana doesn’t mean forcing it—it means harmonizing with it. Like coaxing a melody from an instrument rather than striking it."

As he spoke, a faint shimmer appeared in his peripheral vision. A system window blinked into existence in front of him, translucent and glowing softly:

New Formation Detected

"Mana Gathering Formation" recognized. Do you wish to register this formation in your schema?

Note: Stored formations can be summoned using designated keywords. You may store up to three formations at your current rank.

Caelum’s silver eyes narrowed slightly as he read the message. The timing was curious, given Elizabeth’s breakthrough. His lips curved into a small smirk. So, the system deems this noteworthy? Interesting. He mentally accepted the registration and watched as the shimmering formation diagram etched itself into the corner of his vision, marking its place in his schema.

"Elizabeth," he said, his tone calm but edged with an intensity that belied his thoughts, "you’re well on your way. What you did there? That wasn’t just a fluke. It was progress—measured and real. Keep practicing, and this will feel as natural as breathing."

He turned to leave but paused mid-step, glancing back over his shoulder. "The shape you unconsciously formed… it reflected your emotions. Mana, at its core, responds to the caster’s heart. You might want to keep that in mind."

With a faint smirk, he started toward the door. As he reached for the handle, the faint sound of heavy boots echoed in the hallway beyond. His senses sharpened. The steps were deliberate, confident—almost confrontational.

And now, it seems the next lesson isn’t far behind.

Edward(-20/100) and Elizabeth(15/100)
"Well, well, well", came a faint voice from the corridor leading to the rest of the training facility. Edward Walgren, made his presence known as mana sparked with each step he took. His hands were shoved into his academy robe's pockets. His posture was straight, chest puffed out and muscles rigid and tense. Each action he made fired subtle sparks of mana into Caelum so as to challenge him. From the muscles in his legs used to walk, to his chest expanding as he breathed, every fiber of Edward's being challenged Caelum with a growing pressure that grew as he approached the two. " you could not live up to father's expectations, so you commit treason against the family and take up the teachings of some peasant"? Each syllable aimed a stinging sensation at Caelum's cheeks. "You, the golden child, has forsaken our teachings and surrendered to the flow of mana? What ridiculous garbage is this"?

Elizabeth was a 1 star mage with only a mana ring in her heart(25/100 mana sensitivity), while her brother was a 3 star mage with (151/200 mana sensitivity) to put it into perspective. Although with each burst of magic he called without a circle, it damaged his body ever so slightly, much akin to running an engine at full speed for too long for extended periods of time. He stuck his nose up in the air and said calmly, " Step away from my sister knave, or I will alert father myself". Elizabeth's eyes widened, with tears forming at the edges of her eyes. " You're wrong ed, there is something we can learn from his methods as well. If father knew even a little of caelum's techniques he wou---", was all she could say as Edward's mana flared like a fire storm throughout the chamber.

Screenshot 2025-01-10 162507.png
"shut it treasonous wench, you let your lust cloud your judgement. Do not dare speak of father as if you know anything after betraying him today".

Caelum remained calm, his silver eyes glinting faintly as the storm of Edward’s mana surged around him. He straightened his posture, refusing to flinch under the pressure. Instead, he allowed the mana in the room to wash over him, feeling its turbulence like a scientist observing a chaotic experiment. Bluster and brute force. How predictable.

"Edward," Caelum began, his voice steady and unyielding, "your father’s teachings rely on dominance, on the notion that the only path to control is through force. And yet here you stand, burning yourself out with every reckless spark you unleash. Is that the legacy you want to uphold? A flame that consumes itself in its arrogance?"

He took a deliberate step forward, his aura shifting ever so subtly. Not a flare or a storm, but a quiet ripple that made the air feel heavier—not oppressive, but calm and steady. Like the stillness before a tidal wave.

"You call my methods garbage, yet your sister just achieved control she’d been chasing for years in mere moments. She didn’t need to fight the mana. She needed to listen to it. And as for your threats—" Caelum’s lips curled into a faint, knowing smirk, "—if you think tattling to your father will somehow scare me, you’ve miscalculated."

He glanced at Elizabeth, his expression softening just slightly. "Elizabeth has the potential to master what you can’t yet understand. And unlike you, she’s humble enough to learn."

Turning back to Edward, his tone sharpened, carrying a subtle edge of challenge. "If you’re so sure I’m wrong, then prove it. A duel, here and now. Not a contest of brute strength, but of control. Let’s see whose methods hold more weight."

The air grew still, his challenge hanging between them like a guillotine blade waiting to drop.

"I would poke fun but I can't talk." Zyn said- not lowering the psionic blade or relaxing from her battle stance. As he drew closer she stepped back- her movements liquid as she prepared for any attack. She was about to refuse the offer despite Bartuc's urging, before she heard the Bells. Doc remained calm, reminding himself he was useless if he didn't keep his wits to him.

"Excellent- I am assuming you have medical experience?" Doc addressed the assistant and the man in similar attire, securing his book in his coat as they moved. Doc raised a small vial of liquid- quickly shaking it to create a flashing red light within.

Edward Walgren(-25/100)

Perhaps Caelum was too invested in Edward at the moment or maybe the speed at which he took control of her was too subtle, but Elizabeth did not respond to caelum. She tensed up and tried channeling mana into her lungs, but the weight up his mana was too fierce. The girl buckled to her to knees, teeth clenched and gaze averted. "Betraying the family isn't something you simply can do and walk away from, boy. But don't get it wrong. Father does not need to be here to mete out punishment", he said with hatred in his voice. Elizabeth pushed on Caelum's leg ever so slightly and managed to eek out a faint plea, "run". In that moment many people could have interrupted the scene, but the guards pretended they saw nothing and the professors on night duty turned a blind eye to his flare up. The weight of getting involved with the infighting of royalty, was just too much for most to get involved with. The consequences were normally life and death.

With exactly half of his concentration centered on suppressing his sister, Edward began to form a ball of mana in his hand, violent and erratic it was, crackling off sparks of energy like lightning each second. This attack was perhaps equivalent to a 1.5 star mage's attack, which under normal circumstances would be enough to tear both Caelum and Elizabeth apart. "you said you can communicate with mana, well what is mine saying"? The ball started to grow, sucking up mana from the surrounding area, aimed right at elizabeth. " Do you have the guts to stick your neck out for your beliefs"?

Just then a pop up window appeared between Caelum and Edward, it was square with a blue translucent background. The message in all caps said, " THINK BACK TO YOUR OLD SELF, TO ALL THE MANA CIRCUITS YOU WORKED ON WITH YOUR PROFESSORS! THINK OF A NAME AND INVOKE THAT POWER WITH SCHEMA OR YOU'RE COOKED"!

The demon king paused for a moment, noticing the girl's reflexive movements. He smirked and said, " Well that's good, glad to see you are able to work on good terms with me, but you're a couple years too young to point your blade at me". He paused, but did not stop walking. The path they took was deeper into the slums, where the deplorables and unwanteds were exiled either through financial, societal or governmental pressure. The demon king shrugged at a rat the size of a cat scurrying across his foot and gave it a good kick, sending it a bloodied mess flying into the night sky. "eww i got its juices on me", he said before stopping about ten minutes later. The area was empty, devoid of all life. Up until maybe a minute prior the sounds of fighting couples, crying babies, and maybe pleas for mercy could be heard as you traversed into the capital's underbelly. Yet, here nothing other than the three could be heard for seemingly miles.

The demon king had stopped them in a culdesac with five houses that formed a star. The ground lit up an eery crimson hue, as lines of mana appeared to reveal a magic seal. A man was tied up in the middle of the formation, where mana became heavier as you approach it. The demon king knelt down and lifted the captive by his hair to reveal the shopkeeper, Loki. The fallen god was on his last breath with a battered face full of bruises and blood. "Zyn, there are more ways to become an ascended than you were let to believe, well if you even knew of such a phenomenon". The ropes fell away to reveal loki's bare chest, with a square incision around his heart. " your peers received boons from the guardians..or gods as you humans call them. They have taken the first step to replacing them in order to become more powerful than you could ever imagine". He paused as loki whimpered, but with a snap of his fingers, bugs began to drown out his cries as they crawled out of the captive's mouth. " if you consume his heart, in the same way loki did 10,000 years ago, you too can become a god killer or perhaps, a god. If you seek the power to kill me or simply throw off the shackles of human mortality...I offer you the first step to ascension".

Loki's chest cavity was pulled open by shadows in the shape of hands. In his chest was a still beating heart. "What say you, fated one"?

Doc watched- quickly scanning his notes for any information as pandemonium ensued- beginning to feel overwhelmed. Doc had only ever dealt with undead in small towns, and the sheer crowds filled him with dread- so many carriers, even he couldn't organize a containment of a total infection of such a large population.

The three warriors looked to eachother, and shrugged. Their ambassador or closest thing to it smirked and said, "We know how to put a person down 1000 ways, but we do we specifically know what you've showed us? No I am sorry doctor". She coughed and regained her balance. "The hospital is down this thoroughfare and you take a right, which will reveal a fenced compound. This is where we took the girl". She adjusted her glasses and asked, " forgive me for talking so much, but I must know, is that liquid related to the girl? Is she the threat"?

As the girl tried to make sense of the situation a lone figure across the river kept tabs on Doc and his crew. Nedry and Doory approached him from behind, one as silent as death and the other a lumbering bafoon. " well, how is it, has the target made any movements"? The figure put its monoscope down and turned to the pair. " no, the doctor with the spirits following him is still by the gates. The captain is being mobbed by angry peasants though, so we will have to take care of him separately".

Doory took a seat on a shabby chair after pushing aside the decapitated corpse to the ground. "have our orders changed"? The figured shook his head as it watched Doc and the trio discuss the situation further. " no, proceed to retrieve the girl first. the sacrifice can be retrieved another day".

The cool cave air pleasantly flowed out of the opening Caddock made. It wasn't yet big enough for Caddock to crawl through and into the cave, but she paused her efforts and placed her face near the opening, closing her eyes. Her face relaxed.

A sound of a water flow could be heard below. Nothing was visible in the opening, but Caddock knew that if she were to crawl through it once she made it big enough, she would fall down in a small, shallow stream. The height wouldn't kill her, probably, though she expected it to hurt a little, at least. But survivable, surely.

Caddock flinched. She heard something coming from the corridor. It seemed that her free-time was over. At first, when she escaped her cell room, she assumed that her wardens' caution was a disadvantage to her, but when she entered this room, the blood room, that is, and they didn't follow her immediately, she realized it really was a blessing in disguise.

But, judging from peoples' shouts, they were going to enter the room any moment now anyways. Caddock stood up, taking her metal bar right in her swordhand (which was her left hand, by the way). The shackles tied to her biceps dingled. She focused her ears more.

No, she realized, something else is going on there.

The shouts she heard were those of fear and fight, as if the guards were engaged with someone.

Caddock's eyes were narrowed now.

What could it be? she thought.

She spun 180 degrees.

Her stomach's contents demanded to see what Caddock's eyes now saw immediately!

But Caddock, being the bully she was, pushed her it down and didn't let her it see the marvelous creature moving towards her.

Her stomach's contents grumbled in complaint. They really wanted to take a look with their own eyes.

She jumped back, extending her makeshift weapon towards the creature.

Caddock never saw this creature before. However, she recognized some of it's characteristics from the descriptions she heard of monsters that attacked Blackthorn two years before she was freed by it's empress in her previous timeline.

Indeed, it would seem that these were the prototypes, experiments that have yet to be finished.

Caddock took the cautious route here and didn't attack immediately. Her fatigue was replaced by a fresh dose of andrenaline. She stared at the abomination as it moved. Caddock's eyes were alert and narrowed, her body set in a stance.

She looked to the opening she made in the wall leading to the cave out of the corner of her eyes.

It's clearly not wide enough, she thought, seems I can't make a tactical escape this time. She focused on the monster again. But she didn't move yet. She merely observed as it moved towards her.

"Who are you?" she asked it.

She didn't expect a response, but she had no reason not to make this attempt at conversation. She would much rather prefer to make a new friend than spend precious time fighting that she could spend instead on breaking the wall and escaping into the cave.

The emaciated creature's head jerked suddenly at the question, causing it to let out a low gutteral growl as its cheeks tore and revealed grisly misshapen human teeth. Although walking on all fours was rather awkward due to its three twelve inch talons, it still lunged instinctively at Caddock with both arms cocked back. It's body would be opened in this wind up, but if it is allowed to follow through its grisly claws will be aimed loosely where it heard caddock's voice in a pincer attack between the two sets of claws.

It would seem the creature was offended by Caddock's question, given it's response.

Nonetheless, Caddock felt little disappointment at that. She did feel sorry for it, for it undoubtedly had little responsibility to bear for it's behavior, unlike it's creators.

She allowed her battle instincts to move her body as her eyes took in the creature's lunge.

She leaned forward.

Perhaps the reader might like to visualize the scene as happening in a kind of slow motion, as if the time itself slowed.

Indeed, this is how Caddock saw it.

It would seems the old saying of " the mental element being the most important one in any endeavor" had some merit, because despite the sorry, less experienced state of Caddock's current body, the woman's mind was that of her future self, and because of that, she moved in that moment in an incredibly smooth manner.

Caddock forcefully extended her metal bar towards the creature's throat, in the direction of it's heart. She obviously intended to puncture her way through to it.

The makeshift weapon pierced the fragile creature's throat. sending sinew and bone flying out from the point of impact. It's head barely attached at that point, was dragged down with the rest of its broken frame as she slashed downward. The creature's rib cage was torn to ribbons instantly and what was left of the creature fell to the side with a wet thud. The creature's head broke like an egg upon impact, but despite being torn asunder, it still meekly wiggled its claws toward caddock.

The sounds of battle ended in the corridor leading to the lab, but all that could be heard was the gutteral call of the creatures and the sound of flesh being ripped away from its bones. The screams had become but a mere wimper as the last surviving guard tried pushing the creatures face away futilely as it bit into her innards and ripped out her intestine with a blood curdling gurgle.

Caddock withdrew her weapon and stood motionless, looking down, observing the creature. The same pity now resurfaced in her mind and showed in her face, after the short clearheadedness she experienced when she let her muscles take over a moment ago was over.

However, a particularly terrifyingly scream broke her reverie. Caddock looked back at where she came from and then she again looked down on the creature as it inched ever closer, ever slowly.

"You were an honourable opponent, I'll give you that. You did not give up. Well then, let me put you out of your misery. May the Gods grant you eternal peace."

Caddock raised her bar and smashed it into the creature on the floor.

Caddock may have put her adversary out of its misery, but the strike to the floor echoed throughout the quiet corridors like a thunderous boom. The creatures feasting outside of the lab started to roar in a frenzy. Some scattered down further the hall in the opposite direction, but two scrambled back toward the lab. They burst through the double doors biting and scratching eachother, almost as if forgot caddock.

The woman turned to look at the anomalies in alarm as the doors opened. After a bit of watching them she shrugged.

Well then, she thought, I guess I will just get on to my escape.

Caddock kept an eye out for the creatures as she turned and pushed against the wall again with her fist, making the metal dent a little wider with each punch.

As the two other flesh walkers fought, a straggler without arms inched its way toward a ledge just above caddock. Its large talons clenched the ledge and growled softly as caddock punched the walls. Its head hung over the edge, head twitching with each noise Caddock made. But unlike the others, its one good eye focused in on girl. Rather than rush her, it bided its time and waited for the girl to escape the laboratory.

Caddock, ignorant of the keen observation that the experiment above her exuded, finally made the opening in the wall wide enough for her to crawl through. She took a step back and jumped in the air in happiness. She turned to look at the two fighters with a smile. She gave them a salute and said, "Goodbye, fellow captives, have a good time!"

Will these unnatural creatures fight for all eternity or will they ever stop fighting and escape through the opening Caddock made?

Caddock should have entertained this philosophical question more because it was of importance that was undeniable.

But instead she leaned through the opening to look inside the cave.

Once again, she saw nothing, it was too dark but somewhere down below, she could from this vantage point hear drops of water hit the ground incessantly and a stream flowing.

A random bat must have been happy to see her because it greeted her with delighted squeaks.

Before she jumped down (perhaps to her death, mind you), she turned back inside the laboratory and listened.

She heard the pipes, she heard the fighting of the two monsters, she heard other noises she couldn't identify exactly.

Nothing seemed to be happening in the vicinity.

It seemed she was good to go.

She wondered: where were the rest of the cultists?

The woman turned, prayed to the god of light Mikael.

Not that he heard her since he was kind of dead, but still.

She crawled through the opening and then unceremoniously fell down inside the cave, to her second death. Or did she?

The artificial human slid off the ledge and onto the floor with a wet thud. Inch by inch, it followed magic exuded by mikael the god of light. It's trail, its scent urged the monster to move forward and follow Caddock. Each time its arms lunged forward, they dug into the stone floor and dragged its half bleeding body forward slowly but surely.

Meanwhile Caddock would find herself in a river that would quickly engulf her and pull her forward with or without her consent. The water raged on and caddock only would have one chance to escape the river, but she would need 50 strength to pull herself out against the current. So her body would be helplessly transported, causing those who regulated the worlds to step in. "This is why i like isekai'ers, they actually know what stats are. so its easy to explain with video game logic".

Hours later Caddock would find herself in some farm land near the capital city. Her body would be worn out and senses in dissarray. A notification screen would be blinking in her field of view, saying press me.

Caddock jerked into movement at an urge to cough. Copious amounts of water exited her lungs as she leaned into the instinctual coughing spree. She could hardly understand what was going on as her vision blurred and her sensory perception was giving wild, wild information to her brain.

Not... so dead... am... I?

Her mind went to the strange sentence some disembodied voice said before she lost her consciousness in the cave.

She tried to make sense of it by replacing the words unfamilair to her, those being "isekaiers", "stats" and "video", with placeholders.

This is why I like a group of people, they actually know what a concept is. So it's easy to explain with some game logic.

...Ugh, what does that even mean? Guess there's no way I haven't hallucinated this...

Caddock shook her head a few times to clear her mind.

Few meters from her, there was a river, on another side a forest begun, and on the side of the river Caddock was on in front of her begun a wide, unending field of various crops.

The screen finally caught her attention, although, since she didn't know what a "screen" was, she would, of course, have probably described it in her mind as "another pamphlet-shaped floating thing".
She picked a small rock from nearby and threw it towards the suspended pamphlet. It passed through and landed somewhere in the farm field.
The pamphlet looked similar in style to the one she found in her cell, and it was similarly intangible. So it was the same as before, the part of the boon the Gods granted.
Caddock gingerly and gently moved her right index finger towards the screen.

Demon king +0

"Tell that to whatever attacked me earlier- I fancy my chances against a simple mage." Zyn muttered, lowering her blade- but not dismissing it as she followed. She winced as the rat was kicked aside- creeped out by the quiet. Zyn made sure to memorize his face- with her skills in forgery she was a decent artist. Any idea why it's so empty Bartuc? And who is this guy Zyn sent a mental message, scanning for any enemies hiding in the shadows.

The energy seal unnerved Zyn- not dismissing the possibility that such a spell could capture her. Once she saw the bound man, she raised her sword- expecting an attack. Once the stranger revealed the man's identity she stepped back- pointing the blade at them "Shit, this asshole?" Zyn stared at the strange hole in his chest, but when the stranger spoke of her rebirth she turned her blade on him, stepping back- he knew about the previous life, but his speech concerning the gods seemed like he was on the other side. "So your some kind demon- serving that damn tyrant fuckface." As she thought of the prospect of immortality, her eyes glowed as she stared at the heart- influenced by her demonic connection, whether Bartuc was doing so subconsciously or not. She dropped the blade as she stumbled toward the bound trickster- the drumming of the heart drowning out her thoughts as she reached into the chest- touching the heart.

"Unfortunately, the creatures we face do not function by the same rules that most monsters do. They do not eat, they do not tire, they can survive damage without caring for pain- and they do not feel mercy." Doc said as he approached the compound. He quickly glanced over every detail, thinking of defense overlays. "No, this a simple elixir- it has multiple functions, but I use it to clear crowds- the unnatural light reminds some of dark sorcerers. And yes the child is a threat, any living human in this city can become a carrier- luckily we have isolated the majority of the exposed to this facility, I have no doubt there are more, but hopefully your commander's patrols will stop them."

Doc would pull the book out, seeking out the exact section for undead defense. "Our options are limited, but we will need the doors and windows boarded up on every floor so nothing can get in or out. If the creatures spread and escape containment- the ravenous horde will seek the city next- I believe I have some explosive compounds prepared for the worst case scenario that we can prepare." Doc seemed unfazed by the prospect of a fiery death- in his eyes, the termination of a horde and protecting the city was worth any sacrifice.

Actual expression vs mental state
Van Auger was built for this kind of situation or so he always told himself. As someone who has lived at least five lives, he didn't think anything would stress him out as much as the last coming of the demon king. Yet here was a boy in green with an innocent face who exuded a blood lust similar to his old friend, the former god of war. He rubbed his temples as he heard Charlie's response and had a hard time parsing the important world ending information from the eccentric fairy magics which he never acquainted himself with before." So the god of light isn't your patron, " van whisper while rubbing his forehead with his knuckle. " however judging based on recent events, you described my friend fangorn the third to a tee. He was mikael, the god of light's right hand man 5000 years ago, and the subjugator of the one in the depths".

Van looked to Grell with his accusatory comments and vagueries. " If its the elves, you just missed them. Their civic leaders such as their masters and their royalty from ancient times have answered the summons at mount sannai, the holy ground of the elves", he said with a sigh. " I am pushing you as your former master and friend, Grey. Your circumstances are your own, but the result is the same, you are now caught up with the schemes of gods and demons. If you see this appointment through to the end, you will cease to be human". He turned to the east and looked out at the scenery and said, " The greatest gift humans ever received was living a short life with unlimited potential. But once you ascend past your mortal limits, you will not be able to escape the flow of time by sleeping as only humans can. You will not experience the sweet release of death nor will you be able to see the world as you do now". As van said this, he regrettably looked upon not only his student, but also the pulsating unstable frame just beneath the veneer.

"I gave that up eons ago and do not regret it, but now I stand alone as everyone I ever cared about passed on. Now I ask you, before i teach you how to use your heavenly skeleton..do you wish to continue forth knowing what I disseminated to you"? He paused and turned to Charlie and asked the same thing, " Do you wish continue down this macabre road as well, young fey, heir to herregon"?

Charlie could innately tell that this was stressing out the old guy- part of his animal instincts from the supernatural evolution he had gone through, and he concentrated- dismissing the enchanted caffeine and his nerves. Charlie listened carefully to the man as he spoke- he had lost plenty, and from the few immortals and extended livers he knew- Grell appeared to have lost many. He stared at the expance of greenery, even though he was technically human he still hated in part for so much nature being destroyed on this plain. His eyes dimmed to a natural green, and his ears flopped to his sides as he took off his top hat- the enigmatic smile shifting to a small smile. "I have lost plenty, I think taking this journey with a friend will help. In the last life I failed- perhaps this is the next step. If only- HA THERE YOU ARE." The boy's calm words where cut off as the rabbit poked out of his home, and he dove for the critter, catching it as he hit the mud- giggling as he carefully put it into his top hat- the confused creature disappeared into the confines as he returned it to his head. Charlie happily skipped back towards the pair, not caring that his brilliant green robe was now streaked with mud- his ears twitching with excitement "Anyway what where we talking about again?"

Edward Walgren(-25/100)
Strength:20
dexterity:20
Mana:100
Mana sensitivity:151

THINK OF A NAME AND INVOKE THAT POWER WITH SCHEMA OR YOU'RE COOKED"!

gm note: I came up with a better idea Darkbloom Darkbloom

Caelum’s silver eyes flicked between Edward’s charged mana sphere and Elizabeth’s trembling form on the ground. The air was electric, brimming with malice and energy that hummed just beneath the surface of Edward’s poised attack. His words cut like a blade, but Caelum stood firm, refusing to flinch.

He glanced briefly at the glowing blue window that materialized before him, its bold message screaming at him like a lifeline. For a fleeting second, his mind was thrown back to countless late nights in his first life—pouring over mana circuits, iterating, failing, refining.

Taking a deep breath, Caelum centered himself. He extended his hand forward, palm facing Edward, not as a challenge but as an assertion. His voice rang out, steady and low, cutting through the tension.

"Your mana is shouting, Edward. It’s not the power of the strong—it’s the desperation of a man trying to prove something. It’s wild, volatile... but it doesn’t scare me."

He closed his eyes, calling on his memories of old circuits. A name swirled in his mind, one he'd never dared use until now. When his eyes opened again, his mana flared, flowing into the air as if invited by a silent melody.

"Schema: Aegis Arcanum."

In an instant, the formation sprang to life—a shimmering barrier composed of interwoven mana pathways. It coiled around him and Elizabeth, forming an elegant lattice that rippled with energy. The structure of the circuit wasn’t rigid but fluid, adjusting to the ambient mana Edward’s sphere was pulling in, siphoning its chaotic force and breaking it apart like a wave dissipating on the shore.

Edward’s orb flickered, its erratic energy winking out as the mana pathways of the barrier absorbed and neutralized it. What remained was a faint glow, like embers in a dying fire, as the orb’s power collapsed under the weight of Caelum’s technique.

The pressure in the room shifted, and Caelum stepped forward, his voice calm but piercing.

"Mana doesn’t listen to arrogance. It doesn’t respond to force. You’ve been shouting at it your whole life, Edward, but all you’ve done is deafen yourself." He cast a glance at the trembling Elizabeth, his expression softening for just a moment before turning back to Edward with unyielding resolve.

"You wanted to know what your mana says? It’s begging for someone who understands it. But if you still think brute force will answer you, then by all means..." Caelum gestured toward Edward’s now dim hand, his voice sharp. "...try again."

Grell

Grell listened intently to the wise words of Van Auger. He knew the elderly immortal was simply worried for his pupil. The man didn't want Grell to have to endure the literal dehumanizing ways of an inhuman existence. Anyone else would have accepted his words with grace or denied them outright thinking themselves the exception. Grell KNEW what it meant to willingly trade his humanity away. He had done it before at the lowest point in his previous life when the Demon King Mala'Kai offered him a chance at power. Embracing that power had led to him joining the side terrorizing the other races of the world. A murderer, vagabond and brute was all he had amounted to in the eyes of those who had once known him. Now he faced his Masters deepest sympathies but could not truly accept them. Although he refused to say a word on being Vangurle. Grell would take on that power once more in order to fight the Demon King he once loyally served.

"I will defeat him and expunge his power from this world. Not as a Hero, a Savior or a Saint. To strike down the King of Demons, I will become a monster unlike any other. I will stare into this abyss knowing it stares back at me" said Grell while looking at his clenched fist. He then realized something REALLY important. Today was the meeting of the Elven Council within the depths of the forest. It was today that an assassin from the Demon King Cult failed in killing Elf Sage Lorelai but succeeded in poisoning the SACRED TREE. All large elf clans tended to have deep ties to nature. The Sacred Tree of the Laor'Quen was endemic to this region. Without it the elves in this forest were going to begin the chain of events that would prevent them from properly preparing for the Demon Kings return. "Tell me where the elves are holding their meeting. We don't have much time, Master. Little green man, you're with me. The Demon King Cult are going to make their move soon" stated the young warrior, fully aware that he was nowhere near strong or well equipped enough to contend with the Demon King Cult Assassin on his own.

Although Caddock could not see the old man on the other side of the text, his voice was booming with excitement at finally connecting with one of the fated ones.

"wait wait wait, fated one! Read the instructions first"!
Instructions showed up to next block of text explaining what each stat does and what each trait means. Strength is explained to be how hard one can hit and how extraordinary their physical movements can be, including defying the laws that govern the world. Dexterity relates to the precision to press a button on the system window to picking out an atom in the middle of a busy metropolis. Mana is indicative of how much life force has, how long they will live, and how much power their body can muster. With mana sense being related to how well the person piloting the body can interact with it, ranging from starting a fire to traveling across the space time continuum. And luck was explained to be a measure of one's fortunes and how easy it would be to solve issues, ranging from being destined to die at every turn to finding treasure by accidentally stumbling into a lost ancient mage's treasure coffer.

"Now do you see foolish girl? Is there any questions you may have? These numbers represent your potential and while it is invisible to layman usually, you the fated ones can see your worth and manipulate the course of your existence on purpose. Pretty neat huh"?

He paused, then said,

"I am the one who has been assigned to see the rebuilding of your human world. let me know if you have questions"

Demon king(1/100)
Bartuc watched in horror as another soul was about to go to the demon king. It was neither out of real concern for zyn, but rather, out of sheer hatred for the demon king himself. The blade began to tremble upon the ground, the jewel within its hilt began to glow a harsh crimson hue. It roared toward zyn's mind at this point. Sometime between their first meeting and following him, his voice had been severed from the girl.

"GIRL WAKE UP! IF YOU DO THIS, THERE IS NO TURNING BACK!"

As zyn's fingers wrapped around the beating heart, the blade locked on her heart, pouring out copious amounts of mana. Bartuc was determined to resist even if it meant losing the most familiar vessel in this world, the only one capable of wielding him without melting. Just as bartuc was going to fly toward zyn's heart, a boot settled him back into the dirt. The demon king bathed the blade in his energy and froze it in place. Within the soul realm of the crystal, the demon king Malekai stared down Bartuc, on a plain of nothingness. " keep your cool old man. I did not mean to gain a new pawn, but this girl may be suitable to replace me", he said while pointing at him, towering over him like a giant looking upon an insect. " You will have the honor of protecting her and if she follows through to the end of this road, I will grant you a new body".

Bartuc, a man clad in blood stained armor, gazed at Malekai with his empty sockets. "grant me death, true death", he said under his breath. Malekai leaned forward, his eyes gazing into the soul of the trapped demonic human and said, " then watch over Zyn and cultivate her. Her success is your release, old man".

He returned a moment later and said to zyn, " now, consume loki's heart and you will inherit his powers and more". His words laced with mana, probing her heart and pulling upon her temptation for power. Loki at the same time looked at her with eyes welling up with tears, violently shaking his head as insects continued to stream from his mouth. Muffled words were the only thing to escape from his mouth as his eyes pleaded for mercy, transfixed on her intrigued expression.

The woman nodded at the information, turning to see if her comrades understood the gravity of their assignment. "We have previous experience with killing the undead, but they were the work of a necromancer controlling them with his mana", she said before they reached the steel gates. At the front she presented her badge and was given the nod to go in. "normally we would take you in for mentioning explosives, but if more of those creatures form from the infected, I can't imagine what will happen if it gets out". Her eyes started to glow green as mana seeped from her core. Ice began to form on the windows, thick sheets surgically forming a meter thick around each floor starting from the ground up. The big man rushed to the other side of the building to block the emergency exits and supply depot's. The man in surgical garb started to walk toward the entrance, turning back to doc. "We have one chance. The girl is on the second floor isolation ward. The entrance behind us will be barred, so come quick".

Van Auger

Van auger gave his all to lead these two young fledglings, but he felt his blood run cold when Charlie suddenly lost his train of thought mid sentence. He eyed the young boy with his widest stink eye, but he sat there covered in mud innocently, with no care for his behavior. " where did that rab--why have you forgotten what you were saying so damn easily"? Van auger pressed his right face cheek to his and said, " huhhhh well explain you damned fairy rabbit". It was then he heard his pupil speak and suddenly warmth came back to his body. Surely his pupil who never defied him before today would understand the weight of his words. If he was a mortal man, he felt as if he'd lose decades upon hearing his pupil steadfastly affirm he would continue down this path regardless of the consequences. "Oh micky my friend, what have you done to this old man? You have sent me a basket case and a demon", he said falling over to the ground with a trail of drool running down he side of his mouth.

However upon hearing the mention of the demon king's cult he sat straight up and eyed his pupil. " They are around a month's journey south of here my pupil", he said pointing toward the base of the world tree in the distance. It was grand and its trunk alone was almost too wide to view even hundreds of miles away from it as its branches seemed to climb into the heavens. He clenched his fists, staring down his pupil who kept secrets from his master. He scratched his head in frustration, while building up mana in his body once more. "You were right my friend", he said staring into the heavens, " It's hard to look away from foolish people". He grabbed both boys by the wrists and bent his knees as he readied his body to jump. " explain on the way there, grey".

Both Grell and charlie's wrists and leapt forward hundreds of feet at once while protecting the boys with a layer of mana as they flapped in the wind like flags. At this pace they would be there in 6 hours, plenty of time for grell to disseminate his news to Van.

Edward Walgren (-10/100). Keith sneizel(20/100), Elizabeth (20/100)
A rage, a desperation overtook Edward at that moment. Magic circuits began to manifest on the ground, searing themselves into the magic resistant floor of the training grounds. It was like streaks of lightning tearing up concrete, forming jagged formations that were beginning to overlap on top of eachother. His arm still outstretched, mana began to swirl around in the palm of his hand once more, screeching and expelling sparks as his own mana core began to beat at full force. " try again huh, say that again after corrupting my sister you bastard", he said with a clenched jaw and teeth grinding. However before he could call upon the name of his spell, edward saw the floor before he could react. His wrist was had an anti mana cuff, before being yanked behind him. A foot firmly planted in his back, sending him to his knees and face to the floor. A young man with jet black hair had restrained Edward, while his master casually strolled into the room.

"Edward, despite your flailing over losing in a battle of ideas, you are still my rival. Although clearly you lost the moment you used all your strength to hunt a rabbit", said Keith with a calm collected smile. He turned his attention to Caelum and said, " and you must know the difference between wild mana and a named attack born from a 3 star mage's arsenal. Such an attack would have torn that imitation to shreds". He paused and surveyed the room before turning to face the door.

"why don't we settle this in the halls of avalon, where mages 20 and under go to meet their untimely end for the promises of treasure and breakthroughs. One month from now, There you can truly prove who is right and wrong in the hall of kings, no"? The hold on Edward relaxed, but the cuff was left on him for good measure. He stayed on all fours, staring at the ground as Elizabeth recovered and took a deep breath. The room went silent, waiting on Caelum's response.

Zyn could almost feel it- the power. She had been weak for so long- beat up in the streets, forced to carry Bartuc, and accepting this deal. Zyn's eyes returned to their natural goal. She couldn't do this- she was not the one who had fought and died the demonic forces, but she still had the memories- suffering, loving, dying. Zyn looked into the tricksters eyes- one of the people she had hated most in this world, a monster who had tricked her into a deal that would someday kill her. She turned back to Bartuc and the stranger- watched all that happened, the sudden transformation, his pleas.

"N-No... I refuse." Zyn said as she turned around- dropping a dagger she had been preparing to use for the grisly act- carefully aiming it near one of Loki's hands. Zyn carefully stepped forward, raising her hand- the blade flew through the body and into her hand, and for a moment Zyn felt pain as the sudden contact overwhelmed the bond- her skin growing ashen along her arm before seh quickly returned the weapon to her scabbard. She took a deep breath as she looked at her arm- and it remained as grey as the dead, still working but marked by her contact with Bartuc. Shit, another reminder to stick with ghost Bartuc. Zyn summoned the blades psionic form twisting it as she approached the stranger. "I may hate this man, and I may fear the grips of death- but I will never kill for it. I don't even know all that he has done, but I refuse to be the bringer of justice of revenge. I may not be the hero that died at the end of her world- but I can still kill you demon." Zyn swung her blade- charging at the Demon King- her eyes glowing, along with the arm that had previously been reduced to an unnatural grey.

As he spoke, a crowd of nurses and patients began to rush to the door. The man swung his knife once, a zig zagging trail of mana followed its wake, followed by a flourish of crimson that painted his body and the corridor. The bodies laid strewn across the floor in all directions after a blast of window sent them flying away from him. Horrified screams from fellow staff and patients alike, accompanying them. "How do i know where to aim"?
"The root of the unliving is their forms controlled by necromancers- but in rare cases when the controller of the creatures perishes they remain, unbounded by their masters. These rogue creatures would come in contact with common virus's that took their biological information and created the abomination I call a Viral Revived. Luckily, there are not many of these variants, but the presence of a leader is concerning, whether it is a virus-crafter or other mages of rot is unclear. Doc quickly followed, summoning Oathbreaker as he followed, in case any began to struggle with their quarantine- loading a stun bullet.

When Doc saw the crowd rush the doors, he quickly fired a blank in the air- concentrating on the bullet to increase it's Sound and Light, intensifying it to ensure it was heard over the pandemonium. "RETURN TO YOUR ROOMS- YOUR CITY IS AT DANGER, AND IF ANY OF YOUR NUMBER LEAVES THIS BUILDING YOU WILL PUT THE ENTIRE CITY AT RISK. WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU." The crowd would listen- many doctors would know that the mask of a Plague Doctor indicated a master in these matters, while the majority would follow along. Doc returned the revolver to its holster as he moved on, reassuring any patients with questions- while also analyzing any apparent symptoms and memorizing them for his research.

Once they reached the private room, Doc unpacked his bags the runner had delivered, sorting blood samples from different virus's and setting up some of the blood he had collected from the creature. Doc carefully isolated each sample before allowing the two to mix- staring carefully at the cells as they interacted. If he was observant enough he could determine the Infectiousness of the plague.

"Once the child is brought here I will need a blood sample- even if the pathogen is slow spreading, I do not know her time of infection." Doc had started a stopwatch right after the battle in order to track when the majority where infected in the chaos- even if he was a few minutes short. Doc held his breath as he watched the cells collide- watched the virus take over. He glanced over his notes on other behaviors and began to outline the events- turning an hourglass to track how long it would take. A failed experiment was the basis of the test- a virus that he had intended to slow down cellular movement naturally in order to stop an infection without research, and even though he had found a stable solution (Even though it's intended effect was greatly diminished) the elixir and added it to his common Healing Drought- the original would curiously speed up the infection rate. This of course, doomed any test subjects- but in doing so he had come up with an equation that accurately found how long the virus would take before it was uncurable.

Van auger gave his all to lead these two young fledglings, but he felt his blood run cold when Charlie suddenly lost his train of thought mid sentence. He eyed the young boy with his widest stink eye, but he sat there covered in mud innocently, with no care for his behavior. Charlie sat down, picking a dandelion and blowing it as the old guy reacted to his antics, shrugging and pulling the bunny back out- now holding a carrot in its mouth as Charlie pet it for a moment before returning it to the hat. "Muddy rabbit holes are cool and all, but my hat is a much better place for Mr. Rabbit- plus the garden has carrots- and Thankyou, Maud said I was great with human words despite my being stuck in the Feywild since I was around this many." At this Charlie held up his hands to gesture his age before going back to blowing dandelions, happily gathering them- wishing on a few and eating the rest. Upon the man fell upon the ground he looked to Grell, confused. "Is he a Winter Eladrin? Only those guys mope around this much."

Charlie followed his look, finnally noticing the tree as he pulled a pair of spyglasses from his hat- staring at the tree. He hadn't noticed the tree so far, and after putting away his viewing devices he turned to the pair, returning his hat to his head. He supposed he could walk to the big tree- he was pretty fast, could probably jump any obstacles, but the other guys seemed to big for him to carry- maybe some coffee would help. "Wow, that's a cool tree- wonder how big its nuts- WAIT I DONT LIKE FLYING PUT ME DOWN."

He stayed on all fours, staring at the ground as Elizabeth recovered and took a deep breath. The room went silent, waiting on Caelum's response.

Caelum crouched next to Elizabeth, his focus narrowing on her trembling form. His silver eyes softened as he reached out, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Elizabeth," he said, his tone low but steady, "are you alright? Did his outburst harm you in any way?" His gaze lingered, scanning her for any signs of lingering damage.

(Insert Elizabeth's reply here)

Rising to his feet, Caelum turned his full attention to Edward, still pinned under Keith's foot. The room was thick with tension, the scorch marks from Edward's circuits still crackling faintly. Caelum met Keith’s gaze with a calm intensity, his hand brushing over his side where the residual mana from his own formation still lingered.

"The halls of Avalon?" Caelum echoed, his voice carrying the weight of consideration. "An enticing proposition, but it seems odd to wager lives and truths on brute force when the conflict was born of perspective." He stepped forward, standing over Edward, who still trembled with rage. "However," Caelum continued, his voice sharpening, "if a trial of skill and conviction is what you want, then so be it. One month."

He paused, his eyes locking onto Edward. "Edward, let me make something clear. What you call corruption is simply a different path—a path your sister had the courage to take, unlike you, clinging to your pride. Today, you were blinded by your own arrogance, and that is why you lost. One month might not be enough for you to learn, but perhaps it'll be enough for you to see."

Caelum then turned his gaze to Keith. "And as for you, I’ll prove that even your ‘wild mana’ theory underestimates the possibilities when precision and insight are applied. The halls of Avalon it is."

With that, he stepped back to Elizabeth, offering her his hand. "Let's get you somewhere safe. The rest of this can wait."

The demon king peered down at the girl with his palm held open and all amusement gone from his countenance. "Human, humor me for but a moment", he said, walking toward her at the same time. In his hand began to form the makings of Loki's heart. Blood spittered and gushed forth as it beat even while disconnected from the fallen god. "From my point of view I offered you godhood and the chance to avenge your worthless life", he said as his fingers began to close in on the heart. "and yet, you refuse me, lie about your hate and mock death as it stares you in the face". His fingers wringed the organ dry, sending blood and sinew flying out in all directions. "tell me, if not to kill me, what is your purpose living a second life? If you flail around repeating the same process"? In truth he could have squashed her like a bug or put her in loki's place without batting an eye, but to comprehend the human mind, he would need to investigate further. He grinned, unable to hide his excitement. Cracking the human mind, he felt at this moment, bringing them back was the right move.

"The root of the unliving is their forms controlled by necromancers- but in rare cases when the controller of the creatures perishes they remain, unbounded by their masters. As Doc made preparations in the workspace allotted to him, the building slowly became a freezer. The air temperature dropping low enough to see one's breath. A couple of nurses rolled the little girl into the room with a blanket covering most of her. She was sweating, something pulsated under her skin, slowly moving about leaving black marks on her skin. Doc's escort stood by his side, fiddling around with his surgical knives as he observed the death the curse brought upon the live cells. Yet the doc was not moved as he continuously moved forward with the same efficient speed. "How is it looking, do we stand a chance"?

Outside the hospital

Doory and Nedry approached the front gates with a sense of impunity. The mage who locked things up turned, but found a blade careening for her neck. Quickly she dropped to the floor and sent herself flying with a burst of wind. Swiftly flipping before she even touched the ground again, her eyes glowed when more blades began to fly toward her. Each being held by macabre apprendages made of flesh that writhed and wriggled from an opening in the back of Doory, making sickening sounds of flesh tearing and renewing with each volatile whip like movements of said appendages. Nedry ignored the two, his fist meeting the front entrance's ice barricade with a thunderous boom. "lovely, this wouldnt be half as fun if you were a push over, human". A grisly grin revealing stitches that were coming done and teeth black as the abyss, flashed the young woman mage assigned to protect Doc. She grimaced, and began meading mana between her hands, ice flowing out in all directions. "come"

Caelum crouched next to Elizabeth, his focus narrowing on her trembling form. His silver eyes softened as he reached out, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. As Edward picked himself up, he moved straight for the door, knowing Caelum would accept the challenge. " I suppose I am in too, Keith", he said standing at the doorway. His gaze turned to Elizabeth who was taking Caelum's hand, a look of hatred and despair flashed into his eyes, before being suppressed by his mental training as a mage. "Do not come home Elizabeth, this is not a threat, but a warning. Forget Father, the guards standing outside of the gates will cut your head off before you have a chance to enter the estate". As he left a servant came forth and removed his cuff while another, an elderly woman came forth, and bowed with a forlorn expression. Elizabeth looked to Caelum and then to the maid, who she knew since birth. "caelum, thus is my nanny, M-m-matilda", she said with a trembling voice.

Keith shook his head and said, " Caelum I had assumed you were informed since you seemed to be so informed about mana, but it is impossible to erase signs of mana deviation once a mage reaches 1 star. Even if she never used your method again a day in her life. that in a family like the Walgrens is a death sentence".

Zyn stepped backward as the man approached, her sword arm shaking. She had no idea who this man truly was, but she could tell he was more powerful. Years on the streets had shown her that- she could run, hide from him. For a moment she remembered all of the thugs that had beat her, robbed her- tried to kill her for no reason. This man was more dangerous than the street rats she would commonly face in this life, maybe the other her- the hero of the future, the one who died, could face him. Part of Zyn still wanted that godhood- she had felt the chill of death from that previous life, but she couldn't serve this monster. Zyn went pale as some of the blood splattered against her face- she was used to blood, but the brutality she saw was sickening. Her eyes searched for any escape, but she saw none. Zyn took a deep breath before taking off her cloak, leaving the simple shorts and shirt she wore- not anything that could grab the attention of a city guard who would be seeking out any common rogues clothing, or the more repulsive thugs who had different intentions- but tight enough that they where not a weakness in battle. Her voice was shaky at first, but as she spoke her eyes glowed- she was likely the weaker swordsman, so she would stay on the defensive before she could find an avenue of escape

"Bartuc has a choice in the matter, even if I hate him. I don't lie about my hate, this man- he has ruined my life twice now. I don't mock death, I have faced it every day, starving on the streets- bleeding out after other children beat me for whatever food I could steal. I am not the same person as the hero who died in the old world- I feel her memories, but I am not her. I was brought back to fight creatures like you- and my life was shitty enough both times around. An eternal life sounds like shit- 'sides, Bartuc is an asshole but he gets a say."

"come"
"Humans are unequipped to deal with such a disease, but we have time- not enough, but some. In 47 Hours I want the severe cases dispatched- 24 hours later, the rest will need to follow. Call a priest from any of the infected religion, have messages sent to and from their families, and burn the bodies."

Doc did not react to the frigid air, both his attire and unique nature left him unable to feel either bitter winter, nor blazing heat. Doc was fascinated by the disease. Once he had isolated the individual virus, he had quickly used some cell reproduction- keeping a cell for later testing and one for his research. What would take a normal person hours took minutes- his knowledge and magic unmatched in the field of undead medicine. Doc had found as much information from the cells as he could. Based on the thirteen simultaneous tests he had began, the virus had an estimated three day window- with any with compromised immune systems taking 2 days to succumb to the pathogen. Just like other infections he had seen, the rate of infection was 100% without magical protection. Doc had two days to find a cure, so for now he added a sample to a few of his infection detection potions.

"Add a drop to each patient, around any veins or superficial wounds. If it glows red send them to an isolation wing- this paper will show how much each glow signifies. Keep each general time table separated, with no living humans allowed inside the room except for supervised observations with protocol. in 40 hours strap the patients to their beds and pray to any gods you follow."

Doc immediately rushed to the child, the fevers where expected- hopefully her immune system was doing well keeping the virus in check, but without knowledge of when she was infected and her younger immune system- Doc felt his hand unconsciously reached for the pistol for a moment. He had killed so many in this stage of their infection- a mercy he had always told himself, before they could exist in the hell of undeath or endanger their friends and family. Doc quickly snapped out of it and tested the child's vitals, using a few Anti-Veral's on the child to hopefully aid her immune system in slowing down the infection. "Has the child said anything about the location of the monsters, or when she was infected?" Doc could guess that the syringing he had seen could have been an advanced culture of cells leading to her quick infection- but a necromancer with access to that advanced science could be a deadly combination.

Caelum tightened his grip on Elizabeth’s hand ever so slightly, steadying her trembling fingers in his own. He studied Matilda briefly, acknowledging the weight of her presence, and then turned his attention to Keith, his expression unreadable but for a faint furrow in his brow.

"I suppose I’m learning a lot tonight, Keith," Caelum began, his tone even, though there was an unmistakable edge of frustration buried beneath it. "But I’m also learning what I already knew—that the Walgrens are far better at severing their own than supporting them."

His silver eyes fixed on the space where Edward had exited, the faint hum of residual mana still lingering in the air. "I’ve seen this kind of power posturing before. It never ends well for anyone, no matter how noble their intentions might seem. For now, though, I’m more interested in ensuring Elizabeth makes it through the night safely."

Turning back to Keith, he added with a dry smirk, "But don’t worry—I’ll be ready for your challenge. One month in the Halls of Avalon, was it? I wouldn’t want Edward to think I’m afraid to answer for my methods."

He paused, letting the weight of Keith’s revelation about mana deviation settle in his mind. "In any case, what’s done is done. If they’d kill their own for something as abstract as deviation, then maybe the Walgren estate isn’t worth mourning."

Caelum looked down at Elizabeth and then toward Matilda, his expression softening slightly. "Elizabeth… Do you trust her to be your shield if it comes to that?" His question hung in the air, leaving room for the others to respond before he said anything more.

Caddock's finger stopped midair because the young woman was surprised to hear an enthusiastic voice. She blinked.

"Interesting", she said, inspecting the additional descriptions, putting a hand under her chin in a thinking gesture.

"Now, now, old man, surely the Gods wouldn't appreciate someone referring to fated ones as 'foolish'?" she said, tilting her head to the side, her eyes going wide.

"Hm, these numbers are the numerical representation of the extent the power that God of Light granted me increases my abilities, is that correct?"

Now the purpose behind the "available points" seemed more clear. She smiled slightly.
"Can you increase my strength by... five... points, my mana and magic sense by two points each and my luck by one, old man? I was never one to rely on luck," she winked with her left eye while saying that last sentence.

She walked into the field and plucked a ripe fruit growing nearby.
"Don't tell anyone I took this, okay? Tell me", she said conspirationaly, taking a bite and swallowing after chewing the juicy flesh for a couple seconds. "do you know of any settlements nearby? I'm afraid I am not quite able to recognize where we are. Though I'd assume," she said, as she walked through the field, inbetween chewing, "that I can't be far from the place where I got knocked out by the waves, meaning... say... I must be somewhere near the border still, right?" She looked at the bottom of the paper, which followed her as she walked.
Little did she know that the powers that intervened actually washed her up in the middle of Blackthorn near it's capital city, far away from it's border where the swamp city was.

9 years, 11 months, 30 days, 20 hours, 31 seconds, 263 milliseconds

"Hm, several hours passed, huh.
This timer, it's certainly handy. It seems I won't have to own a watch for a while now", she noted, then said, addressing to the voice behind the pamphlet, "Well, lead the way then, old man."

The Demon king looked down upon the girl as she appraised him, but there was something he could not understand. "How, dare you bear your fangs at me with that bold face lie", he said while channeling mana into his hand. "You humans weep, you wail, and are as disposable as trash. Yet you are telling me you will defy me until the end"? It was something he wanted desperately to know, the secret human fire. Even when extinguished, humans will rise from the ashes and still not give in until the last man standing. He tilted his head at her comments, something about the hero from a previous life and grinned. His hand was within inches of grasping the girl's neck when he said,"On the contrary, you surrendered to bartuc last time. If anything, the one I want is you".

However he was be cut off by a blazing blue comet which caused him to step back a couple of steps. The demon king's arm was nearly cut off the forarm, with bits of mana ignited around his wound. "what are you doing here, A chan"? Advisor chan pulled out a giant book made of all the heavenly laws and said, "article 3 subsection 4 of the time reversal act states the conquering entity may only tempt his adversaries but not harm or force them in any way not according to their will". The demon king sighed and began to make his way out of the vicinity "Alright alright I'm going for now, take care zyn and bartuc". The figure who stood before zyn now was a ghostly figure and a little too high strung for his own good. "now then fated one, feel free to call upon me in the future if you have questions. My name is Advisor chan". He said while wiping his brow. " you humans really know how to rile up your elders. phew".

Doc's escort looked upon the nursing staff, who all exhibited levels of stress and disbelief to sort out the infected from the staff struggling to hang on. " you heard the man", he said tapping on the tray with the solution. "anyone outwardly sick should should be executed on the spot. Anyone who its questionable should be brought to the isolation ward just like the doc said". A few members of the staff were distracted by the commotion outside, but the escort gestured with his fingers saying no. Those among the nurses who were infected hid their bites, their scratched arms, and throbbing skin. They carried out their orders and began to test the remaining patients who managed to not get caught up in the frenzy following a recent string of cannibalism spreading throughout the city. If not for their lying eyes, no one would have believed a word this strange plague doctor had to say, but he carried an air about him that lent a bit of confidence to them as well.

Doc's escort tapped his arms thinking about what to say next, then exclaimed, "The child has not said a word except asking where you were. and that she was sorry. She has been unconscious ever since she reached our custody". He pointed to his foreheard and said, " we believe she is under some mind control and that she may not be human anymore".

Keith Sniezel, Elizabeth Walgren, Lorraine Tisdale
Keith kept the same slick smile, but his eyes began to burn with power, the likes of which even he was surprised at. " abstract? Considering this family's teachings are one of the few who can resist the queen, I too wish i was abstract". This time the mediator stepped out as there was nothing else to survey or any more tidbits to gain. Elizabeth nodded and tugged at his sleeve to get his attention. "ofcourse, she has been my mother figure since I was in diapers. But I ask cae, that you go easy on my family. I made this choice and i represent a chink in their armor", she said with her eyes averted. "But even still they allowed matilda to come watch over me. So do not worry! I will take your lessons and run with them! I will become a mage you can be proud of, so please, dont do this".

"So, you lost the backing of the junk pedaling sniezels huh? Maybe I could lend a hand?", she said with small vials in her hand, shaking them ever so slightly to make the contents rattle a bit.
