Charlie felt a slight twitch in his arm, then moved- clearly his abilities as a warlock had prevailed and he had escaped (He had convinced himself he was frozen.

"Aha, I have escaped your prison vile demon- now I can destroy you in the name of the Gelatinous God, The Caffeinated Creator, The Occosionally Decaf Deity- Coffee."

Charlie quickly summoned a second cup- quickly drinking it with a loud slurp. In a moment he finished his divine beverge, his iris's shrinking for a moment beofre suddenly enlarging- his entire form almost vibrating with energy as he raised his quarterstaff, swirling the weapon quickly before charging.

Malekai grinned, but his hopes were slightly dashed at lack of response to his question. "I suppose your coffee was not the one I was looking for", he said as he took a sip of the nostalgic brew. "the truth is master charlie, I know who you are", he said while flicking his finger toward him. The resulting burst of wind, would have at least impeded the boy's approach. "I have traveled to many a world, searching for my home. Alas that may not be possible", he paused and outstretched his hands to his sides. "at the very least, I hope you and the other fated ones can kill me in time". He clapped his hands once more, sending charlie out of his pocket dimension and back into the bar. There waiting him was a fresh cup of coffee, chicken but specifically with corn without butter. The demon king however, was nowhere to be seen. He was already walking out of the double doors, off to find another fated one and see what they were like. and perhaps a bit more of the human world along the way. He rather liked the mutton chops and ideas master charlie had about life.
Zyn quickly flipped her knife to her non-dominant hand, immediately catching the sword effortlessly- it felt almost right to be reunited with it- even if she had taken on less power, but this was safer for her than a complete bond. She quickly visualized this new bond, a contraction symbiosis- an exchange of freedoms: She would gain some of the strength allotted by the blade, while he would have minimized control- and both would survive the encounter.

"This doesn't mean I plan to fully accept your power and mind into my being Bartuc."

Zyn felt a black sheath appear on her back- a manifestation of their deal, perfectly fitted for both the sword and the bearer. Zyn slid the object inside and felt an energy fill her- finalizing the agreement. Holders of blades such as hers had ranks, depending on their devotion and sacrifice to their blade, and she had taken the lowes- and safest one: Swordbearer- at her pinnacle of power she had reached the penultimate rank: Artifactbearer- if she had lived a bit longer, perhaps she could have won the ultimate title of Blade of Blades- becoming one with the blade and the power behind it, a blend of herself and Bartuc.

Zyn felt her sight brighten as the Arcane Aura enveloped her- healing her wound, and lending her strength and speed to defend her blade. her hair began to glow and writhe as if alive before becoming a bright green- her eyes glowing brighter. Finally, she held her hand to her side- one of the battle stances the Failed Zyn had learned, the memory restored with her bond to Bartuc- maybe progressing the bond would allow her to remember more from that dark future. Heat began to build up in her body before finally manifesting as small green flames, not harming her as they traveled to her outstretched hand- forming a green blade.

"Let's kick this guy's ass."

The shadow demon thrashed and writhed with painful moans and wailing escaping out of many orifices appearing all over its body. Silhouettes of trapped human souls thrashed about, trying to escape from their bondage within this demon. "you dare stand against the demon king? BARTUC? was it not your goal to end the gods"? The demon struggling to keep its form together started to resemble a roaring flame, but within its core looked like a boy holding its palm on a wound.

SHUT IT PRETENDER. you who wanted to be human so bad that you stole their form and continue to do so millenia later. I have no interest in you or your false king!

A grin creeped over the boys face, eyes of eyes opened up on him, all of which were focused on the duo before him. "sacrifice, ill show you what a lowly human you are"! Much like a roaring river, the shadow demon began to encircle them while swords made of shadow energy tore into the pavement aimed at slashing her legs. The many mouths of the beast chanting, " sac-ri-fice. sac-re-fice. yummy sacr-i-fice".

listen girl, this is a feint. dodge to the left 10 feet and parry the first strike. after that cut through its fake viel of flames and run to the roof, we need to buy time until i can find its core!

Doc ran with all his strengh- counting each bullet he fired at the monsters, trying his best to slow down their escape. He was glad for all the training he had kept even past his second life- now his third with the recent awakening. Every time one pistol ran out of ammo he would quickly return it to the gun belt- swapping with the other before reloading the chamber with preprepared ammunition- quick to relaod, and able to do so one handed while he led the girl away from the creatures.

As the Mages pulled the pair forward, Doc shifted to ensure if they fell he would take the brunt of the fall- keeping a careful hold of the weapon- barrel trained on the ground and finger away from the trigger. Doc quickly helped the girl under the gate- raising one pistol as it elongated to its rifle form, kneeling in a marksman posistion as he centered between the things eyes. He planned to first try a conventional shot- hoping to shut down the brain, then he would go for the legs if the skull was too protected or its brain was not needed.
The chimera charged regardless of what stood in its way, its body slamming into the phalanx without a care in the world. Grisly spears ripped into its flesh, filling the area with the stench of rotting flesh and iron. The soldiers cried bloody murder, their bodies dissolving under the beast's acidic blood. Ismael and Tahm stood frozen, watching the beast unravel to engulf the city guard. The main head still a lion lunged forth toward Doc seeing him as the only thing stopping it from recapturing the girl who it saw as a beacon just beyond the gate. However three well time shots sent it falling over itself in a tangled mess. Bones, sinew, and innards leaked from its undead corpse. Its lion head roared at Doc and snapped at him, just inches from reaching him.

Oh false prince, let me tear into your succulent flesh! Oh False prince, you cling to your old ways, just like the false prince you are! The dead laugh at you! The dead shall close the way. The dead shall keep it!

Even broken and ranting maniacally, the creature managed to inch its way closer to doc while leaving entrails in its wake. Each inch, the slap and thud of sinewy flesh could be heard as its twitsted and contorted toward its singular mission.

Grell

Grell was mildly pleased at having Lady Waldyn admit defeat for once. However the Academy was something that he wasn't very pleased to hear about. Currently all three of his sisters were attending in different departments. He had been able to attend the Academy in the last worldline but had been forced to drop out due to low grades. His weak power combined with Lord Waldyn forbidding him from using mana had resulted in Grell going through the proverbial wringer. After that he had met with a representative of the Demon King. This led him down the path to acquiring his mask and becoming Vangurle. Now he was in a world where Lady Waldyn herself had gotten him admitted to the Academy. Grell had an entire month to prepare for the entrance exam. His current body was barely good enough to contend with a hobgoblin let alone the demons he would eventually have to fight. Noticing his sisters eyes follow him while he made his way back to the rickety shack he called home. Grell changed his clothes into something more suitable for traveling. Noticing his reflection in the mirror and taking umbrage with his long purple locks. The obvious course of action was to use a nearby knife to cut them off.

1735950863086.png

Emerging from his hut in new attire and with a fresh haircut. Grell felt a bit more comfortable in his own skin. He still had a good deal of Vangurle on the inside. Part of Grell would ALWAYS be Vangurle the Redwolf. It was just that Grell would be the one to choose who he bared his fangs at this time. Approaching his three sisters, he gave each of them a glance over as a kind of refresher. Yufine, the eldest sister who was second seat in the Academy's Knight Department. Cyra, the sleepy eyed middle sister who was currently interning with the Blue Magic Tower while purposefully occupying a middling position in the Academy's Mage Department. Finally there was Prilika, the mischievous youngest sister who had already made a reputation for herself in the Merchants Guild despite still attending the Noble Course at the Academy. Compared to them, Grell could be considered to be lacking. Yet today he had earned their attention due to his sudden sourness and strange powers. "Elder Sisters... I'm going to go train in the forest for a month. I'll be back the day before the exam.....take care" was all Grell could say considering that he still didn't have the best relationship with them.

Leaving the estate was easy since it wasn't like anyone cared to acknowledge Grell in the first place. Waldyn Barony was equal parts forest and lakes. Sprawling treelines dotted the landscape to the point where some spots couldn't even get a hint of sunlight. A few tribes of elves lived in some of these woodlands but tended to govern themselves, only interacting with Lord Waldyn when necessary. Grell used to come out into the closest forest to his the estate in order to escape the neglect he faced at home. He had met his Master here, the sage who taught him how to use his brain rewrite. Grell had never been able to figure out much concerning his teacher. The Black Hatted man definitely wasn't human but he seemed a lot different than the demons Grell would go on to meet as Vangurle. Sitting on a rock next to a crystal clear spring. Grell remembered the last time he ever saw his Master in the previous world.

"Master looked so sad when he saw I became Vangurle... then he left.... we hadn't seen each other in years but it was MY fault he gave up on this world"

Charlie immediately fell over as he reappeared in the real world- his charge bringing him right into the table. "Carrots- asshole, no coward. He probably knew I could defeat him." Charlie sat down, nursing his leg- though he had mostly stubbed his toe, he believed he couldn't make chase with such grievous injuries. He quickly ate his food before leaving the tavern- giving the barmaid extra coin. Who cares that boring white void guy was gone, he was just some random- not a threat. As Charlie drank his coffee he began singing a particularly tune, skipping away in the darkness as he looked for anything interesting.

Perhaps Caelum has failed to fully comprehend the world outside of his university or even the bare bones situation for Dale. The world was currently in a renaissance and everything is abundant. Merchants at this time period were thinking in terms of ambitions. They want to slay dragons, so most of their income went to equipment and finding talent. Some want to explore the seas, so their money went to the craft itself, the crew, and the mages necessary to traverse the ocean above and below it. People often do not think ahead and when they do, it takes a special kind of doomsday prepper to consider things that far ahead. Even potions which the two had mentioned prior were crashing at the moment. Too many healers, too many sellers, and not enough demand lead to a market saturation. Dale could attest to this because he was sitting on a couple hundred potions which would all sell for a loss. It was also during this time period that Dale was near the end of his wits and would take up mercenary work.

"Caelum, forgive me, but there's something about your actions which doesn't seem forthright". He stood up and let his fingertips slide across this table while holding his gaze with Caelum. The ground shook and the small shack trembled, causing small hanging utensils to fall to the ground. Dale's irises glimmered with a grave blue aura, mana seeping from his body. "Merchants and small farmers buy my corn, but big time dealers don't. They want ships, mercenaries, experts, and weapons to conquer the unknown". The room began to ripple, runic symbols faintly glowing brighter as the conversation went on. "The last merchant pigs who set foot in here were third rate loan sharks. They laughed at me and said there are much better labs who dont have half the overhead! They spit on my dreams and didnt even put me in debt".

After taking a deep breath he asked, " Are you here to mess with me or is there something you're not telling me. I have tried stamina elixirs, healing potions, seeds, food, and even defensive formations. What more can I do"? As he said this, groans of the earth beneath them twisting and contorting could be heard in the background.
After dodging the second bolt of Jemin's and turning the corner, Caddock ran towards the door leading to the blood pipe room. She punched the door with a bloodied fist until it gave in to her strength and fell on the floor with a thud. She entered the room. It was steamy inside, and a loud whooshing noise was heard from time to time somewhere in the depths of the room as the pipes ejected excess heat. Despite the fact that she didn't really do much in terms of physical exertion, she found herself breathing heavily and felt fatigued.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised my poor little body is in this state, she thought, I remember how poor the food was, and the frequent drawing of blood didn't help either.
She walked forward, a bit unstable and wobbly on her legs, through the labyrinth-like room of various pumps and metal pipes. She would crouch or dart away from this pipe or that on her way when she heard or felt the buildup of pressure, because after a few seconds of the buildup, the pressure would whoosh out of the pipe violently. She frowned in tired annoyance.
Caddock paused to listen for any steps behind and then continued walking until she found the wall she was looking for.
Okay, here the wall is shallow in the middle and leads right into a cave. I should be able to get to the surface after a while of walking through the said cave.
Caddock kicked the wall and lo! She heard a shallow thud. it seems her memory was accurate. She begun kicking the wall, little by little making dents, although it seemed she was growing more sluggish now and sweat drops rolled down her face. Poor lass really looked like she would fall asleep from the exertion at any moment now!
The sound of a lightning bolt echoed throughout the otherwise dead silent corridors. The commotion and pitter patter of boots clattering against the stone floor carried further than one would expect. A sleeping set of beasts soaking in vats of blood began to poke their heads out at the surface of crimson pool teeming with disease and insects. Emaciated fingers clasped the edge of giant cauldrons, their grisly curved claws allowing these misshapen creatures to pull themselves over the edge. With a wet thud against the tile floor, creatures which parodied the human form weakly pulled themselves together. Arms too long and spiney, eye sockets empty and too wide to be human, mouth full of crooked rotting teeth and short stubby legs barely lifted these abominations up. Their rib cages barely housed visible beating hearts and skin that seemed to move on its own. With sinew drooping about randomly across their thin frames, these imitation humans slowly moved toward the mass of breathing people in the corridor. However, one heard the cracking wall coming from where Caddock was escaping to a cave system. It felt a breeze of air and picked up on the scent of the girl struggling to escape. Inch by inch, it's finger nails scraped against the ground and pulled its fleshy incomplete frame toward her slowly by surely.

The only warning Caddock would have, if any, was the screams and frantic sounds of battle echoing from her pursuers who lingered in the corridor.

The shadow demon stretched out like the torrent of a raging river from above and below Zyn and the demon blade. Using its main body as the anchor, it sent rivers and shadows cutting through the houses under Zyn. The sounds screaming villagers and stone being tore from its very foundation could be heard as houses were being lifted underneath her. At the same time tendrils of shadow rushed into the sky, forming a cage to intercept their target in the chaos.

Zyn listen, this is our one chance to kill it! It's core is still anchored in place but most of its body is stretched out to chase you. Turn about face and slash the mark I've ingrained in your mind!

By this point the houses zyn ran to would just about to start crumbling. The roof beneath her feet starting to collapse as the sound of screaming humans filled the air. But just as Bartuc said, there was a 1 x 1 box highlighting a thumping macabre heart covered in a thin layer of the demon's shadow mana. "take you back to master. back to master. back"! A chorus of mouths began to chant as the tendrils became poised to strike at the girl.

Doc stayed cool as he saw the creature crashed through buildings- people would rebuild and heal. Doc stayed calm as it tore through the phalanx- people died. Doc stayed cool as it lunged at him- he had died before. Each shot Doc fired was precise, he was calm despite the chaos- but not because he didn't care. Doc raised Oathbreaker and fired into its skull until it stopped moving, then using the butt of its rifle form to ensure the brain was destroyed with a series of brutal attacks.
The beast laughed at the false prince's anger, its pearly eyes trained on Doc as he fired his strange gun into its body randomly. The mana circuits which held it together were being torn apart, causing the corpses that made up its body to dislodge from eachother into a heap. Despite being torn asunder voices continued to chant from the heap, " hahaha false prince will be dragged into the darkness. False prince will become a slave too"! As doc climbed upon the lion's head, the butt of his gun was used to smash the brain until nothing was left but the semblance of a blooming crimson flower as its juices bled out and deflated.

The people who witnessed the event rushed to Doc to thank him and the town guard who survived allowed them to congregate around him. However among the crowd were the souls that made up the undead chimera. With no anchor left, they latched onto Doc, hiding in the periphery of his vision. The little girl was the only one missing from the scene, for she was recieving emergency treatment within a nearby barracks. Town guardsmen didnt necessarily blame him, but among the thankful villagers they were posted at the edge of the crowd to stop him from leaving if necessary.

Lorilei, van auger XVIIII(grell's master)
It was another quiet day in the Waldyn territory as far as Van was concerned. He sat with his legs criss-crossed and formed a circle with his fingers to form a conduit for his mana to flow. His core lying within the corpus collosum of his brain, mana fired a million times a minute and circulated throughout his body. Meanwhile a core was being formed within his heart and one in each of his limbs to allow for maximum flow of power from one sector to another. One thing Van had discovered long ago, is power accumulated in one power center in a human body would eventually cause it to deteriorate. However, by having two, he had lengthened his lifespan for many generations past that of a normal human. This body was perhaps his fifth, but it was already a millennia old.

Long before the waldyns settled here and long before the blackthorn empire formed, van auger had been continuously cultivating his mind and spirit to transcend the normal limits of human life. Ofcourse this was not done alone. He was among the first few souls transported from his original world by Mikael and conscripted to face the former demon king. In exchange for his service to the cause, he was granted the boon of a reincarnation. With each iteration he was reborn he became less human in some ways. It started with him forgetting about his hunger and fatigue and has progressed to him forgetting about the flow of time. His eyes fluttered open after decades, a stinging shock to the back of his mind shaking off the years of metaphorical rust from his mind.

"Boop", a soft echoed in his mind telepathically. Van stood up quickly and smacked his head against the roof of the cave he was secluded in. " oi oi Layna you can't be doing that to an old man like me"! The voice was somber and curt, " uncle van, it's me Lorilei. Mother passed on 200 years ago". Van's eyes widened before he scratched his head out of habit. "Sorry, guess I missed her funeral...how can I help you"? The voice did not respond right away, but it came as sure as the sun will set and asked, "Have you perhaps, noticed something off lately"? Lorelei continued, "I can not contact the arch mage nor can I contact the envoy to the god of....light". Van growled at the absurdity of the statement and pressed his right index finger to his temple and reached out to elias. "nothing"..he said. "no matter, surely that woman is just in seclusion too, right"?

To his dismay he found none of his old contacts could be found, including mikael himself. "the way to the heavens is shut". Van's heartbeat raced for the first time in 10000 years. His thoughts raced from the seas where cthulu resided with no one tethering his body to the deeps. No one to chain mephisto to pillars of eternity. No one to gaurd the gates between the realms. "Uncle Van, we are off to the emergency summons in the heart of the sinnai forest. take care", she said with a forlorn tone. Van nodded and rushed out to sunlight for the first time in ages, to find yet another world he was not familiar with. His mind racing all over the place, Van could not figure out where to go or what to do. " what a time to lose my damn save file, fuck".

However, something caught his attention a few miles out. A pair of lights converging onto eachother."mikael's boons? would that old man really hand them out like candy"? Mana pooled in his withered stubby legs, before exploding into a burst of wind that sent him flying toward grell. Although it was faint, he somehow recognized his scent but not the heavenly skeleton in his body. Something was off and he was going to find out what as he flew through the air toward Charlie and Grell.

Caelum's hands folded neatly on the table, his expression calm but resolute as he observed Dale’s heated emotions manifest in ripples of mana through the room. He didn’t flinch as the ground quaked beneath them or as the runes glimmered brighter with Dale’s frustration. Instead, he allowed a few moments of silence to settle between them, ensuring his next words would cut through the tension with precision.

“You’re right, Dale,” Caelum said finally, his voice steady and unyielding. “Words alone won’t change anything. Not in a world like this, where everyone is fighting for something bigger than themselves. If I want you to trust me, if I want you to see the potential I’m talking about, I need to prove it to you—not with empty promises, but with results.”

He leaned forward slightly, his silver eyes gleaming with a determination that seemed to pierce through Dale’s doubts. “Here’s what we’ll do. Tomorrow, at first light, I’ll return. Together, we’ll pick one of your plants—something unique, something you believe in but haven’t been able to convince others to value. Then, I’ll show you how to make it indispensable to this world. Whether it’s an elixir, a potion, a defensive array, or something entirely new, I’ll demonstrate what can be done with the right perspective and the right strategy.”

Caelum stood, brushing the mud from his robes as he met Dale’s gaze head-on. “I’ll prove to you that your work has merit beyond what this short-sighted society sees. And when I do, we’ll not only elevate your business but begin building something that truly lasts. Not just for you—but for everyone who can benefit from what you’ve created.”

He gestured to the table, where the holograms of Dale’s greenhouse and mana storage tank still flickered faintly. “So think about it tonight, Dale. Think about what you truly want to achieve—and what you’re willing to risk to make it happen. Because when the sun rises tomorrow, I’ll be here to show you what we can accomplish together.”

Without waiting for a reply, Caelum turned and began walking toward the door, his steps measured and deliberate. He paused just before stepping out into the biomes beyond, glancing back over his shoulder. “Rest well. Tomorrow, we start proving the skeptics wrong—not with words, but with actions.”

And with that, he stepped outside, leaving Dale to his thoughts amid the soft hum of mana and the distant rustle of plants in the greenhouse.

As Caelum stepped out of the greenhouse, the cool evening air greeted him, carrying with it the faint rustle of crops in the distance. The faint glow of mana from Dale’s nursery faded as he walked further into the farmland, his mind already shifting to the next steps. While Dale mulled over the proposition, there was still time for Caelum to advance another critical piece of his plan—the princess.

He glanced at the horizon, where the sun had begun to dip below the skyline. The kingdom’s towering spires, bathed in the golden glow of twilight, stood in sharp contrast to the simplicity of the farmland. His thoughts turned to her: the princess with untapped potential and a dangerous gap in her understanding of mana control. If her skill could be honed, she could become an indispensable ally—not just to him, but to the future he was trying to secure.

By the time he reached the royal training grounds, the stars had started to emerge. The guards at the entrance recognized him immediately, giving him a brief nod before allowing him entry. The princess had requested his help once before, and her curiosity about advanced mana techniques was no secret among the palace staff.
Inside the expansive training hall, Caelum found her, her expression a mix of focus and frustration. She stood at the center of a glowing array etched into the floor, its intricate runes pulsating in uneven rhythms. A flicker of mana sputtered in her palm, wild and uncontrolled, as she tried to shape it into something stable.

As Caelum stepped into the training hall, his sharp gaze immediately found the princess at its center. She was surrounded by a glowing array, its runes pulsating with uneven light. Her focus was intense, but her frustration was evident in the way her fingers twitched, struggling to maintain control over a flickering orb of mana that danced unpredictably in her palm.

He approached slowly, his boots making soft echoes against the polished stone floor. When he stopped just a few steps away, he took a moment to study her work. The array was meticulously designed but overly rigid, its structure strangling the natural flow of mana rather than guiding it.

“Your Highness,” Caelum said, his voice calm but firm enough to cut through the silence. The orb of mana in her hand sputtered out as she turned to face him, her expression betraying equal parts curiosity and irritation. “It looks like you’re still trying to wrestle the beast instead of taming it.”

He let the observation hang in the air for a moment, watching her reaction. Then, stepping closer, he gestured to the array. “You’ve built something impressive here, but it’s too constrained. Mana doesn’t respond well to being forced—it needs guidance. Think of it as coaxing a stream to change its course, not damming it entirely.”

He extended his hand toward her, tilting his head slightly in invitation. “Would you like me to show you what I mean?”

He paused, his silver eyes steady as he waited for her response.

"Isn't this better than all of those times before? If you weren't trying to take over all of the time we could have actually survived." Zyn muttered, swinging the blade as she dodged the attacks. She did her best to weave through the shadows- using the blade to destroy a few, but there where too many. maybe someone would come with the sounds of chaos, but every second could her death, consumed by this thing. Zyn was glad that the blade was weightless as she destroyed another tendril the blade spreading its flames with every swing- though she wished it would illuminate better, the go-to attack against shadow monsters. Zyn dove towards the creature, raising her blade. She wouldn't last much longer fighting individual tendrils, sapping her energy and slowly beating her down- she had no choice but to risk attacking the thing directly.

Doc stepped back as the mob approached- a bit unprepared after the battle, but he silently accepted their thanks- wiating as long as he could before gathering samples of the creature. He stowed vials of flesh, sinew, and blood in his medicine bag- carefully labeled and dated with his research system- he was annoyed they had kept him from leaving yet, when the remaining samples where still a few streets away. Doc finally got to his journal, noting his awakening and the events of the day- doing his best to transcribe the words the creature had uttered. After he had completed his post-purge duties he approached the person most likely in command

If you would allow it I would like to complete a Biopsy and Autopsy of the corpses- and I may need to test the blood of the child, the leader of the scourge used a syringe on her, hopefully analysis will deduce what they are and if she has transmitted the curse."

Charlie walked through the streets for a few minutes, swinging his bowstaff and singing his favorite bar songs, eventually growing somber as he remained alone in the streets- simply humming those songs while he walked. After some time he saw light emerging from a nearby alleyway, smiling as he charged forward- more enemies to slay, and pester! As he prepared his one-liners and puns for what would likely be a glorious battle, he found a portal.

"Ah, no enemies- more time to work on the puns I suppose. Usually jumping into random gateways is a bad idea."

Charlie prodded the portal with his staff for a moment before jumping in. After a few seconds Charlie found himself in a forest, smiling as he began to search the trees for anything of interest. For what seemed like hours Charlie skipped through the trees, singing a few Feywild tunes while he sought anything of interest, spending a few minutes chasing a few confused rabbits- giving up after failing to get into their rabbit hole.

Elizabeth Walgren +1

Elizabeth stood in the quiet chamber alone, with just a couple of academy guards posted at the entrance and maybe a couple of students in separate rooms. She drew a cross along the floor in order to draw out her mana evenly from 4 quadrants from her body. The next was a circle around the middle, overlapping each quadrant to help guide the flow of her mana in a circle around her. Lines were drawn inward to draw mana inward from the environment and help close the loop from her own body. It was not the most advanced circles, but it served the purpose of allowing her to try and control the mana and not let it leak. She held out her arm with her arm pointing toward the cieling. As if to will the flow of energy in her body to move, she did her best to force it to go into her outstretched arm. Mana began to pool in her forearm and her brow began to furrow. Now physical straining herself, she forced the mana into the palm of her hand as mana around her body was slowly leaking.

The core of her heart was heating up, causing her to sweat a little as the air became saturated with mana. With all her might she willed the mana circling her to migrate to her palm, causing winds around her to make her clothes flutter. The orb in her hand was starting to coalesce, but it also was mishappen and wild. The words of her father ringed in her heart and mind, "now control the flow, you are a Walgren. you must make it submit to you"! Elizabeth began to condense the mana, which caused the orb to glow and rage even stronger than it was already, pressure began to push against her senses. At the final moment she was interrupted by a familiar voice.

Her focus turned to Caelum and just as her cheeks became red, the illusion of control she had over the mana disappeared and fluttered throughout the chamber, sending a blast of wind flying in all directions. Elizabeth pushed down on her skirt to prevent it from flipping up in the gust and looked to Caelum with a tense expression.

“It looks like you’re still trying to wrestle the beast instead of taming it.”

She gasped and caught her breath. She wiped her forehead and eyed him back. " You rascal. Don't think I dont see that wiley look into your eyes! I am only following the Walgren Patriarch's teachings"! She exclaimed, fist balled up in frustration. She took a deep breath and bowed, " but I do need help. Please help me Caelum". Her bow half to show respect and half to hide her burning embarrassed expression.

Zyn pulled the blade from the mass as she heard the voice, expecting another attack, thinking about the creature- it had called her sacrifice, and it wanted Bartuc. Maybe it had wanted them to bond for this sacrifice. She had sworn not to bond with the blade, but as always she had no choice. Her thoughts spiraled as she leaned against the wall, dropping the spectral Bartuc as she groaned, the energy lent in battle sapping away as the ghost blade dispersed into mist.

Zyn's rest was broken by Bartuc's words, getting to her feet as she ensured the scabbard was secure before moving on. There would likely be some alleyway she could hide in- she had no coin so an Inn wasn't an option, and she couldn't enter any illegitimate business less she be recognized.

"The eyes and hair will make me stand out, I wonder if..."

Zyn concentrated for a moment, her eyes glowing for a moment before she felt her hair bleed back into her usual black- a streak of green remaining. Her eyes returned to a normal green-blue, rather than the pericing neon given by the magic. Zyn adjusted her cloak to better conceal Bartuc before disapeering into the shadowy alleyways of the city. She would need rest, then she could look for information on her new situation.

Once Doc finished organizing each tissue sample, adding a few quick sketches of the beast- (along with its master) He began to walk among the dead. Doc did not weep anymore, for he could not- a lifetime of seeing scenes had hardened him, and crying was impossible now. Doc uttered a few silent prayers to the bodies- he had studied a great many death rites under Card's, and even though he did not cry- each body wrenched his heart.

Doc paused as the man approached, carefully cleaning his scalpel as he returned it to his bag. He uttered his codewords and both firearms turned into playing cards, and while his back was still turned to the man his carefully hid the cards in his sleeve in case they arrested him.

Grell

After a while of just staring into the stream while birds chirped in the background. Grell got up and started contemplating how he'd train for the next month. His sole power, Brain Rewrite had received a boost in the form of his Heavenly Skeleton. As for as he understood, his Heavenly Skeleton absorbed mana and saturated his body with it. This seemed to raise his base power level when combined with the status he obtained from the gods. Combining that with Brain Rewrite would allow him to push his body in ways that were impossible until he become Vangurle in the former timeline. Additionally he'd need to retrain his weapon and hand-to-hand skills. His mind and memory had knowledge of them but his current body had no muscle memory of such techniques. Speaking of weapons, he'd need to do something about that soon. All he had on him was the sword he took from that rookie guard. As Vangurle, he'd had to rely on a number of different weapons based on the opponent. Scratching his chin for a moment, he remembered something he'd heard from an owl demon. Supposedly there was a cache of weapons and tools held in a nearby ruin to where he was. It was property of the Demon King Cult but Grell was sure they wouldn't mind.

"Nani the fuck?" asked Grell once he sensed spatial magic in his immediate vicinity. Getting into a combat stance and readying himself for a fight. Grell was surprised to see it was some kind of small magic person. He had no idea who or what this guy was but kept his distance. Apparently the guy hadn't noticed Grell,; seemingly too busy chasing rabbits like a child wandering off after butterflies. Grell was about to make his presence known when he sensed something incredibly familiar heading toward them at rapid speed. Appearing like a bolt from the blue was Van Auger, the sage who had trained Grell in the fundamentals of mana and utilizing his Brain Rewrite. Staring with his mouth agape like a fish out of water. Grell had no idea what to say to his Master who he hadn't seen in so long. Although from Van Auger's perspective, it had only been a few years since Grell had left his tutelage under pressure from Lord Waldyn. "Master?" whispered Grell, like he couldn't quite believe what he was seeing. Grell as Vangurle had watched Van Auger leave this world behind after losing faith in its people. Now he was looking at Grell or rather GREY like he had grown a third arm. Van Auger had given Grell the nickname of Grey since he had given up trying to say his name correctly. A quirk that always made Grell wonder if Van Auger had purposefully played up or not.

Caelum crossed his arms, a faint smile playing on his lips as he studied the dissipating wisps of mana left in the room. Elizabeth's reaction, a mix of indignation and embarrassment, was almost endearing, though he was far too focused on the task at hand to let it distract him.

“You’re overcomplicating it,” he began, his tone even and instructive. He gestured toward the remains of her formation on the floor. “This array you’ve drawn—it’s not bad, but it’s trying to do too much at once. You’re forcing the mana to follow rigid pathways, but mana isn’t something you can bully into submission. It’s alive in its own way, like a river. Try to dam it completely, and it’ll overflow.”

He took a step closer, extending a hand toward the array. “Let me demonstrate.”

With a flick of his fingers, he began erasing parts of the array, smoothing out sharp angles and replacing them with flowing curves. His motions were precise but unhurried, his understanding of mana evident in the ease with which he worked. The lines of the array now curved gently into one another, creating a structure that guided mana instead of corralling it.

Satisfied, he stepped back into the center of the altered array and held out his hand. Slowly, deliberately, he drew mana from his core. Unlike the chaotic energy that had surged around Elizabeth earlier, the mana flowed smoothly, spiraling up his arm like a gentle current before pooling in his palm. A soft glow began to form, steady and controlled, until it coalesced into a small, perfectly round orb of light.

Caelum turned his hand slightly, letting the orb hover an inch above his palm. “The key isn’t to dominate the flow,” he explained, his voice calm and measured. “It’s to guide it. You have to listen to the mana, feel how it wants to move, and then shape it with intention. Watch.”

With a simple motion, he waved his hand, and the orb of light expanded into a glowing ring that floated in the air around him. It spun lazily, as if obeying his unspoken will, before folding back into itself and vanishing in a gentle pulse.

He looked back at Elizabeth, silver eyes steady. “Now, you try. Forget about forcing it. Start with small steps, feel the flow, and let it guide you. I’ll be here to correct you if needed.”

Van Auger slammed into a nearby boulder like a cannon ball, throwing up dust and debris out in all directions. He looked around for a couple of moments, but could not seem to find who he was looking for. He sensed Charlie lurking about and found Grell in a nearby clearing, however the owner of the unusual mana signature seemed to be nowhere in sight. "Oh hey Grey, long time no see", he said with a grin. "And you over there in the tree, come on out. It's not polite to spy on your elders! only women and your enemies"! He let out a hardy laugh and lurched forward toward Grell. "look oh you grey, so tall. back then you were a short stuff like myself", he said with a self satisfied grin. He got on his tippy toes and slapped his shoulder to greet his old pupil when something set off alarm bells.

A sensation travelled through Van's frame, the same sensation he felt before rushing toward the two youngsters. " Tell me Grey, WHY DO YOU HAVE THE LOOKS AND THE HEAVENLY FRAME TOO"? His eyes were wide and tears were welling up in his eyes. A desperate sense of unfairness washed over the old man at that moment.

Elizabeth peered at the changes to her diagram and marveled at interconnected nature of the lines. " Rather than a highway, it feels more akin to a river with no defined start or end", she said under the breath. Although to the naked eye it may seem chaotic, to even the novice mage's eye, one could tell the mana is allowed to flow in and out of the formation freely. She was about to protest how much the formation seemed to open up when it was just as he had said in class. The mana rather than rushing him and resisting him, it seemed to flow to him instead. Her eyes were trained on even the lines of mana pathways forming above him in an arch from every exit point. To her surprise the orb in his hand did not try to rush way, but rather it danced in the palm of his hand. Her eyes traced its path and for a moment she forgot Caelum was there as it turned into a ring, before fluttering off on its own once more. "rather than a violent reaction, it is smooth, like a calming lullaby".

Elizabeth gulped when he looked her in the eyes, but despite her burning cheeks she nodded and approached the circle this time. She shut her eyes and began call upon her mana once more. Her core stirred once more, like a pool of water in a serene mountain setting. Upon willing it to move, it began to move as if a drop of water made it start to oscillate. Just as Caelum had said, the mana began to move on its own. Although she pleaded with the mana to come to her, it did not rush nor did it resist. An orb half formed began to coalesce above the palm of her hands. Yet she did not see because she was too focused on asking the mana to move to her. The only clue she had was perhaps this slightly warm feeling in her palms, but it was so alien to her since the only thing she experienced prior was pain and ever increasing heat. "what's it doing Caelum"?

Caelum observed Elizabeth with an appraising gaze, noting the subtle shift in the room’s ambient mana as she began to follow his guidance. Her efforts were tentative but deliberate, the once-chaotic flow of her mana now taking on a discernible rhythm. The faint glow forming above her palm was evidence enough that she was on the right path.
“It’s responding,” Caelum said, his tone steady but encouraging. “See how it gathers? It’s no longer trying to escape or fight you because you’re not forcing it. You’re inviting it.”
He took a step closer, pointing subtly at the orb forming in her hands. “You’re already doing better. The mana isn’t wild like before; it’s forming a shape. That warmth you feel—it’s the energy stabilizing. It’s delicate, like balancing a spinning coin on its edge. Now comes the next step.”

He crouched slightly, so he was at eye level with the orb, but his focus was on Elizabeth’s posture. “Shift your focus from just calling the mana to guiding it into a form. Think of the shape you want it to take, like a sphere, and let your intention flow into the mana. Don’t grip too tightly; just nudge it, like coaxing a shy bird to land on your hand.”
Caelum stepped back slightly, giving her space but ready to intervene if necessary. “What it’s doing right now is waiting for direction. The mana recognizes your intent; it just needs clarity. Breathe, don’t overthink it, and show it where to go.”

Charlie crept closer in his hiding place, listening closely, hand reaching into his robes- putting a hand on one of the throwing knives he carried- the Karambit blade well sharpened. He wasn't particularly effective in direct combat- mostly relying on magics. With his unnatural speed, he could effectively use his Bo-Staff in mad attacks, with the throwing daggers thrown in a storm of steel.

Charlie had trained on a few other martial weapons, though most of his weapon training prioritized incapacitating an opponent. Charlie listened closely to the pair, pulling a square of jerky from his hat as he watched before the old man addressed him.

Charlie spat the jerky out, surprised that he had been detected, quickly trying to escape the tree in case anyone would attack him. Charlie cried out as he slammed into branch after branch before slamming onto the ground.

He lay there for a moment—his top hat askew, covered in leaves and twigs, frozen. In a burst of action, he got on his feet, fixed his Top Hat, and pulled his Bo-Staff from the harness on his back before finding it had broken in half.

"Damn it- it takes so long for me to regrow this."

Charlie put the two halves of the staff together- carefully aligning the halves regenerated slowly, feeding on a bit of his mana as the wood weaved together. The pair hadn't tried to attack him so he returned to a calm and confident demeanor- summoning a small cup of coffee to ensure he could escape.

"I don't suppose any of you have seen a weirdo who stops time and shit? -was looking for him, found this random portal, and decided to jump in."

As Zyn slipped into the shadows, the commotion from the villagers and town guard could be heard in the distance. People with pitchforks and torches were running throughout the area looking for a girl with black hair. "Get er, the damned shadow witch! She has green hair"! The sound of boots against the stone pavement filled the air and the shouts of the angry mob could be heard wherever they believed they found the culprit. However, Zyn's alleyway was surprisingly quiet and lacked any foot traffic. The only figure standing at the entrance of the alleyway with a small smirk, " Hey bartuc, so this is your little girlfriend".

"Simply continuing my work guardsman. This monstrosity is unlike anything I have seen in a long time- and I am one of the top experts in these matters. I will need to see if the undead pathogen from this strain his potentially blood borne- or Evo forbid, Air born. I will need a report of each of your men's wounds."

"And this is not always just a curse. Undeath can spread via bites and other wounds occasionally, and since their are so many strains it is hard to tell without research whether or not it can spread. An outbreak in a major town in unheard of, usually small isolated villages and farmsteads. The lack of sanitation in this land will also add issue. I mean no harm to any living person in the town, my purposes are purely to stop the spread of these diseases."
Captain Helhaim nodded and turned to his lieutenants barking orders, " Jamison, clear the streets and make sure not a soul within 3 km is out and about. John gather the men involved with last night's guard duty and today's response! And Gerald, lock down the hospital as well, not a single soul will leave the premises until we figure out what is going on"! The men saluted and ran out to fulfill their orders, but helhaim said, " I will accompany you and oversee the progress of the investigation myself. We will be clearing out the corpses within the day, so make sure to assess the situation as soon as possible doctor".

From their perk a district away, a pair armed with buckets full of blood teeming with parasites and disease looked on at the sight across the river that ran through the capital. "Doory, why can't we simpleh keel haul these wretched sacrifices! they're just humans". Doory, built like house made of sticks, rigid and seemingly falling apart grinned at his companion. "now nedry, you know better than that! We can't open the doorway between heaven and the human plane by simply killing them. We must harvest their sins and their anguish, their pain and their blood. Only then can we weaken the barrier and open the way for the king".

"Daerr you're right Doory", said the tank of a man who carried multiple corpses on his shoulders whose limbs swayed to and fro." we gunna maek um tastier right"? Doory poured the contents of his bucket into the well and nodded.

"That's right nerdry, good job". Down the well they went, the corpses infected with undeath. The agents in the water would not activate right away, but rather, they would mark people and infect them for the day of the harvest.
Caelum observed Elizabeth with an appraising gaze, noting the subtle shift in the room’s ambient mana as she began to follow his guidance. Her efforts were tentative but deliberate, the once-chaotic flow of her mana now taking on a discernible rhythm. She nodded her head and began to focus the first shape that came to mind. Her nerves were still on edge, so she could not manage to utter a response. However she understood that this is what it was like to handle mana as if it were a handful of water as opposed to trying to hold back a raging river using herself as the dam. She heard a footstep. It seemed to come closer, causing her heart to race like a horse at full gallop. Despite the mental imbalance she felt at that moment, the mana did not fall away like it would have been. No instead it took on the first unconscious thought that came to mind, like that of a heart.

As Caelum bent over to take a closer look at her ball of energy, she opened her own eyes to see both a shiney heart and Caelum's silver eyes staring back at her. "eep", was all that came out as she fell back and losing all control of the mana as it fluttered away in the shape of a butterfly melting in the wind." Caelum, that was amazing, there was no pain or anxiety. and i didnt feel like I was struggling but rather, i was guiding i..t". Her face flush again, she froze up and averted her gaze out of embarrassment. "although I have a long way to go, I think...I can do it..right"?

She let the question linger in the air, still not able to move or even look him in the eye. The memory of what shape she willed still made her chest flutter.

gm notes:

Caelum's schema is now D rank. You should rp seeing a pop up asking if you want to register the mana gathering formation in your schema. The window will explain that you may store 3 formations or mana circuits and call upon them using one key word.

Grell had no idea what the Heavenly Frame was. He guessed it had to be some kind of classification made up by the mortal peoples of the world in regards to the Heavenly Skeleton. The man in front of him was many things but gullible was not one of them. Well maybe if the other party was a beautiful woman but Grell had enough confidence in Van Auger's ability to push past his vices. "No clue. The gods just sort of gave it to me. Something about averting the calamity brought on by the Demon King" said Grell, providing things he knew were true without any embellishment. He couldn't tell his mentor he was a regressor or that he had served the Demon King in his former timeline. Van Auger had limits to how much he could endure from the people of this world and Grell had seen the outcome of Van Auger losing faith. Hopefully the old man had enough knowledge on the Heavenly Skeleton to assist Grell in his training. The current Grell stood no chance against a regular demon let alone the Demon King. He needed to get as strong as he could before this month was over.

The emergence of the small magical stranger reminded Grell that he was there in the first place. Grell had kind of moved past the guy and got into the conversation with his Master. Acting like he didn't know nothing about nothing. He listened to the guys question about a time stopping individual. As far as Grell was aware, only two or three people in the world could reliably halt the flow of time. Demon King Mala'Kai, Elf Archpriest Chronoa and that infernal gambler Khons of the Silver Moon. Anyone else would have a shakier grasp on Time Magic due to its difficulty. A space-time mage who could make portals like the little green guy mentioned was far more common but someone who could stop and start time was harder to pin down. "Haven't seen anything like that around here.... what are you going to do IF you find this person? Stopping time is pretty top tier magic" asked an curious Grell.

Charlie sat down while the pair talked, feeling the grass and grabbing a dandelion while he listened- blowing on it. This land was less wild than the aptly named Feywild, but some of the nature had some charm to it- and less of the vegetation tried to kill you, which was a bonus.

"Oh those God guys? Yeah, I died after going more insane and woke up with them- some angry guy gave me a special ability and I woke up in a bar. I reckoned it was all a dream but I guess it might be true if you saw it."

Charlie stood up fiddling with his daggers, throwing them into the soil as he spoke- thinking about that stranger. Charlie couldn't recall much, he was bad with faces and names- but he could maybe pick him out in a crowd- if he was up close. Charlie took another swig of coffee as he thought of the Time-Dude.

"The guy could eat Sheep really fast, was a bit crass with a waitress, really disturbed by coffee for some reason- had telepathy and his eyes turned blue (Green is a better color)."
