Dice Into the Ruins - Exalted 3e OOC

Don’t feel too bad; you are not the only one dropping their jaw at the savage attacks being dished out by Glade, and I am fairly well informed for Exalted.

Here's the thing.

Spectacular? Sure. Effective? Undeniably.

Fun?

It's objectively a bad thing if the first player to act just nukes the majority of the planned encounter (and make no mistake, that archer is probably down at -2 dice; probability says that attack roll should have dealt the magic 7 levels. And I suspect I'll crash the swordsman unless he has a defence)

I didn't even plan for Glade to be that powerful, just spotted that the neat Stealth join battle charms went quite well with the Thrown ones. He doesn't even have artifact thrown weapons!

I dunno, maybe I need to nerf him a bit.

Oh, please do not go around changing up your characters over something I've written here! =) I genuinely like how O Mighty Fat Cat is made and if you enjoy playing your characters and our Game Master is fine with it, then that's a good thing!

Hear me out. Mine is a pleasant sense of awe, a positive feeling, both at what is possible in Exalted and what each of us here has put together. Envy mixed with positive feelings! Not "darn, I wish my character could do that," but "hey, I didn't know that was possible! Maybe my character should leave the heavy lifting to them?"

I am also not feeling any sense of "competition" between characters. I largely don't believe in strict character balance - it doesn't exist in Real Life, so why should it exist in-game? I think I am seeing what is really possible in this game and given some of the difficulties I have in understanding Exalted, how can I not sit back and honestly applaud? =)

Yes, I agree with Purr Purr , do not change your characters, this is Exalted…we are supposed to be big bad and powerful, particularly the Solars.

Thanks, you guys are great.

And it's a bit of a fragile combo. The previous fight, against Filial, I didn't win initiative and I couldn't find a place to hide, so I just kinda meh for the whole fight. Plus, it's gonna take a while to recover that essence.

But seriously, if it feels like Glade is hogging the spotlight in first rounds, let me know and I'll work something out. (Players and Psychie Psychie )

Chowlett Chowlett I will if it happens! Though if it hasn't happened in all the time we've been in this game, I will find it hard to believe it will happen at all - we've a really good group here! =)

Honor and fun,
Purr =)

While I will confess that I had not expected that large is a dice pool, it will happen that there will be times that you can’t pull the stealth attack the way you have here. Also, the fight is not the extent of the game, just a part of it. There are plenty of other opportunities for role playing for everyone.

He is barely within melee range, and if you do wish to attack him, you'll need to flurry an action to do a full move and then make an attack roll.
Psychie Psychie Before I ask about flurrying, what is the ground here made of, please?

It appears to be what you’d normally see on the side of a typical mountain: soft soil with a layer or leaves and mulch on it with the occasional rock.
Psychie Psychie Ideal! That's what I was hoping for - the kind of dirty goodness that, if thrown on an invisible opponent, might reveal him to all! Could O Mighty Fat Cat transform into an animal that might shower the invisible guy with said mulch and dirt? Or barring that, are there any clods or small piles he might use to show the Circle precisely where he is? =)

That is entirely possible. Are you currently in your human form? Your Cat Bus form could lob a pawful of dirt to reveal his location fairly well, but your human one could just as easily throw a dirt clod and give others a chance to spot him easier.

He's currently in human form (and therefore could shout out a warning). What if... instead of a dirt clod, the big guy scoops up two big handfuls of dirt and showers the guy with it? =)

Just so I’m clear and don’t gank Purr’s action, his dirty fighting move is going to take place as a stunt/flurry before Del’s turn, correct?

Also, did you get my pun about the dirty fighting move? Ha!

I imagine if he were in Fat Cat form, he could take both front paws and just "cloud" the dude or turn his back and shoot his rear paws shoveling up dirt, like how cats do?

If you do the second, I’ll have to work hard to get an image of the Catbus using a giant litter box out of my head. LOL

Turning your back on an Exalted archer might not be the best idea, but that would certainly raise up a lot of debris and probably slow his position for a moment.

And yes, this is before Del’s turn. As for your pun, that is typical Sherwood.

Well and just remember a bunch of zombies came out of the ground, so there is a lot of loose dirt everywhere....

I don't know if Fat Cat is near where the zombies came out; the GM hasn't said anything about that. If that's the case though, that's all the better!

Psychie Psychie I think you have a good point about not turning one's back on that bum.

Okay, how about this? Can O Mighty Fat Cat transform into his Cat Bus form and with both forepaws, cake the invisible archer guy with dirt/mulch, then meow and point (and smile!) to all, to get everyone's attention with Glance Oration Technique?

That is an inventive way to reveal a hiding foe. It won’t work for very long from the Charms in play, but it can give someone a moment to react to his presence.

Well, in the spirit of good role-playing, how would my character know what he's using Charms-wise?

You haven’t had a whole lot of exposure to Solar Stealth Charms let alone their Abyssal counterparts to know exactly what he’s doing. From how well he vanished earlier, he was not using mere mortal talent, no matter how good he is.

Psychie Psychie Right, and I'm not about to use metagame information (you know how I role-play),

So could we go with the original idea? Maybe Fat Cat could transform into his Cat Bus self, sniff him to get a scent, and then try to "cloud" him, not knowing it is not going to work long-term?

Even a short term effect can help out a lot. I am thinking of using one of my Charms to bolster a grapple attempt, rendering him helpless and free to be pounded on. Even if I only get a hold of one arm, he’ll be unable to use his bow.

That's a good plan, Bud, but I still believe the smarmy jerk deserves one big Lucky Fat Cat Express belly flop.

=)
