Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

Kay hopped off the counter, with a simple nod, she followed behind Chas to go up the cockpit, feeling in two minds on whether she wanted to be involved or not, but she'd no doubt figure it out soon enough. Climbing up to the cockpit, she leaned against the left side wall.

She stuffed her hands in her jeans pockets. She stayed out the way of Chas so he could do whatever he needed to, by Jay's orders. She was close to deciding not to be involved in whatever they were doing but Jay's last words about looking out for anything unusual kept playing on her mind. "Maybe I should get involved" she thought to herself.

John was too nosy not to be involved, he had no qualms like Kay did when it came to deciding on his presence in the current situation. The cockpit had been set back up to the original seat formation, Chas taking the copilot seat, even without Jay there, he knew his place. It was beginning to feel more and more natural to him, even though he'd never been on a spaceship before John stormed the Watchtower. Jay had even commented that he was a surprisingly natural learner with good pilot instincts. She theorised this came from his time driving the cab through high speed chases.

John followed Chas's lead and took one of the spare headsets on the wall. "which airlock are they using?" "the left hand one, nearest to the escape pod Rí sleeps in"

Kay just smirked slightly at when John instantly decided to be involved. Of course he would insert himself she thought. She tried to stay out of it, by pushing herself off the wall and taking a seat, slouching in it as much as she could. Maybe she was just getting tired of being stuck in the ship, maybe she couldn't care less what Jay and Rinaa were doing, but she just didn't want to insert herself for a while. She enjoyed the casual cheerier mood before it was interrupted.

However, if something came up that piqued her curiosity she'd jump in to see or hear what was going on. For now she was just going to make the most relaxing a bit more. She didn't think she'd ever catch herself thinking this, but she was missing having Fee as a separate entity in some ways to talk to. As she thought about it, she missed just being her phoenix self and stretching her wings both figuratively and literally speaking.

John listened to the back and forth chat between Jay and Rinaa, it was all systems checks and equipment checks. There didn't seem to be any issues with the kit, despite not being used for a long time. The only thing of real interest was that Rinaa was going gloveless stating that she had better dexteritu bare handed and that her body could survive expose with space for short periods of time. So she technically didn't need the suit in the first place, but she was taking precautions and wearing the rest of the suit anyway.

John positioned himself near the window and watched as the helmeted and suited form of Rí exited the spaceship. She was tethered to the ship, and the cylinders were tethered to her. Methodically she began to remove panels from the outer shell of the ship

Kay looked out the window from her seat, it may have been a slight restricted view in some ways, but she didn't particularly mind. Having not heard ant of the conversation, due to not having the headset on for the Comms, she just watched. She saw Rinaa appear on the outside of the ship and wondered what the hell she was planning to warrant removing outer panels of the ship. Yet even then, her curiosity wasn't piqued enough to go on comms.

She just watched and took in the overall view at the same before going into her little world, trying to get Fee to talk to her.

Rinaa carefully began to rewire the ship, adding new lengths and slicing them to existing wires. The sunshield of the helmet was down, reducing Rinaa to little more than a stereotypical astronaut in appearance. She carefully directed Chas on what circuits to kill the power to, in order for the ship to maintain its path without electrocuting her. With that done it was time to weld. The flame still lit in the zero gravity, burning red, blue and deep purple before settling on a blazing white like magnesium.

The tanks were designed with circular banding around the outside, to prevent warping. Rinaa directed the molten solder to the gap between the tank banding and the outer ship panels. It was a crude joint, but none the less strong enough to withstand the forces of interplanetary travel. With that done, she connected up the extra hosing to the tank intakes. Flashing a thumbs up to Jay, Rinaa explained to Chas what exactly he needed to do in order to do to test her creation. Chas followed the procedure, his eyebrows scrunching in concentrating. "brace up everyone, this could send us flying"

Jay grabbed onto an outer handrail, John strapped in and Jay strapped herself to the wall with one of the straps designed for that exact purpose. With a curasry check, Chas opened the tank flow, which instantly jettisoned the gas from the tank, which acted a thruster, the force of the gas emission sending the ship into a crazy spiral.

There were moments when Kay would snap out of her thoughts and chats with Fee to see what was going on outside. She had snapped out of her thoughts just as Chas said about strapping in for what was to come next. She sat up properly in her seat and strapped in, bracing for the inevitable craziness that was about to happen.

She held on to her straps as the ship went into a spiral. She was never going to get used to that in any century. Luckily though, it wasn't enough to make her feel nauseous. She just didn't like it in any form. "The sooner this is over the better" she heard Fee comment and she couldn't help but smirk slightly and agree. "Can say that again" she thought back.

Chas cut the gas and regained control over the ship quickly enough. Rinaa just about managed to stay gripped on to the outside of the ship, but her hands were battered and bruised "Well that plan sucks, big time. Unless you can use the gas as the main propellant, it ain't gonna work" "We could attach to the pod and use the gas cylinders to propel it instead. The smaller size could make it work" Rinaa and Jay discussed pros and cons, before agreeing, attaching to the ship itself was too uncertain.

So Rinaa removed the tanks and re-soldered them elsewhere, unspliced the wires and re-spliced them. The whole process took maybe over two hours. But when they tested, with Jay controlling the pod, it worked perfectly. But by then they had reached the edge of the prison airspace.

Rinaa returned inside and started desuiting while Jay headed up to the cockpit to explain the plan. The plan consisted of her and Rinaa taking the escape pod, flying right next to the prison, using a combination of gas and powder paint to create an image with the rockets exhaust tail, the rest would fly around the border of the prison airspace in the main ship and rendezvous with the pod afterwards. "any questions?"

Kay wasn't going to even pretend she knew what the hell they were talking about. She just nodded and let them get on with what they were discussing and trying out. In the two hours that they were doing all of this, she managed to leave the cockpit to get a drink from the kitchen, taking her time before returning. Sitting still was getting tiresome and boring to her and she needed to move.

She was there in plenty of time for when Jay came up and discussed the plan at hand for what they wanted to do. She personally had no questions as she couldn't really honestly care less about their little revenge stint.

With no questions, the two ejected from the main ship. Chas as promised stuck right to the edge of the prison airspace boundary but even from that distance there was a lot that could be seen. DeltaMax was an artificial planet. It had started off as a space station, but had grown so large that the word 'station' really didn't do it justice. It was a metal monstrosity surrounded by floating orbital weapon posts and protected by three different layers of electromagnetic shielding. "This isn't a prison, it's a bloody Death Star" was all John could think to say on the matter.

Jay and Rinaa's trajectory took them to the planet's far side. But it was clear that the message had been delivered when the entire station went red with lock down lights. The escape pod was left abandoned in orbit by Jay and Rinaa. They returned aboard and sat in silence in the airlock watching as the prison planet faded from their sight. When it finally receded from sight they returned to the cockpit, the silence between them heavy. Rinaa's hands were bloody and bruised, and wrapped in bandages, but her mask was back on.

John and Chasexited the cockpit making their excuses and heading separate way, not wanting to be around either at this moment in time. Chas ended up in the med bay with a book, and John ended up with Kay.

When they reached DeltaMax, that was when her interest got piqued enough to pay full attention. She was shocked at what he saw, the place was insane and when John remarked on it being a death Star she had to agree. "Second that opinion" she commented. She watched the whole thing unfold, before Jay and Rinaa boarded back on the ship. Seeing the state of them and feeling that heavy silence between them, she too left the cockpit quickly.

There was no way she was going to be around women that were that intense in their emotions. "Well...that was...something" she commented, wondering how they could now pass the time with the heavy atmosphere returning to the ship. "So...how should we pass the time?"

"Intense is an understatement. For once I really don't want to know what is going through their minds right now" John was nosy, but this situation was different in so many ways. Even his (low/fucked up) standards meant that this was not something he'd want to get involved it at all. He put an arm around Kay "My only suggestion is to stay as far away as possible from the two in the cockpit.I'm up for pretty much anything that will distract from this oppressing, depressing emotional stuff."

"I am so glad even you don't wanna be around those two right now and it's not just me" she replied. As he put an arm round her, Kay wrapped her arm round his waist, her hand going slightly into his back pocket. Smirking at his reply she nodded, "I definitely agree with that statement."

With a ship this size, she figured there would be have to something for them to do or a recreational room for the staff to unwind in. "There's gotta be something we can find to do on this ship or a room they have for staff to unwind on breaks" she told him. She could be wrong in thinking it, but it was all she could honestly think of. Or at least the clean side of her mind could think of.

"I've got enough broody thoughts of my own to contend with, I don't need to add theirs on top of everything" And in John's mind, it was only his brooding thoughts thar truly mattered, maybe occasionally Chas's, Elliott's and Kay's. But for the most part he was gloriously narcissistic about problems.

"I'd say there is, down by the engine rooms would be my best guess." John replied, hoping there was something to take his mind off everything

He smirked at his reply, "you're preaching to the choir with that one" she said with a tone that said she could do nothing but agree with him. Like him, her own worries and thoughts were more important than anyone else's. She never used to be like that but having the bombshells she had thrusted upon her, changed her mindset.

"Then.. let's go down there and find something" she replied him, not letting go of him and beginning the walk toward the engine room. She found the staircase to descend, somehow remembering where she spotted the stairs. Letting go of him she jogged down the stairs, knowing that if there was a bannister of some kind, she would so slide down it.

John followed her down the metal staircase, it spiralled into the underbelly of the ship. The engine room were clearly marked with signs stating various versions of 'do not enter' and 'dangerous'. But next to that was indeed a sort of rec room. It evidently hadn't been used in a while. Everything was neatly stowed on custom shelving so that when the ship rolled and tossed they wouldn't be flung everywhere. There were many things in the room, but it was the snooker table that retracted into the floor that caught John's attention.

Kay walked into the rec room, glad that there was indeed one. Just as she was hoping there plenty of things to do and like John, the snooker table caught her attention. "Was hoping there'd be something along these lines down here! Even if I do suck at the game" she grinned. She really did suck at the game, that was no lie but it was something she still enjoyed playing back in the day. For a start it was a good excuse to get the attractive blokes over and make a boring night a good one. It was one thing she learned quickly the moment she was old enough in both countries to get into bars, that guys could not resist teaching women how to play the game. Which meant she purposely never learned to play properly.

"So...fancy a game and have an excuse to laugh at my expense?" She asked.

John was well adept in using magic to cheat at snooker, or using the pool cue as a weapon in a bar fight. There had been one memorable time he'd used a snapped cue to stake a vampire, messy but did the job excellently. But he was a decent player unaided by a magic, a skull he honed spending far too much of his life in bars and playing against Chas to kill time. The cabbie almost always beat him through sheer skill. He spent his time playing snooker with some extremely competitive cabbies.

"Yup, count me in"

Smiling, she set up the table by bringing it up from the floor after much walking around to find the button to do so. Once it was at the right height, she grabbed all the coloured balls from their storage section under the table, setting them all up, and grabbing the cues, handing one over to him by laying it on the table and taking one herself, finding the chalk and prepping the end of it.

Once she was done setting it all up, she let John make the first move. She wanted to see his skill first before making her own move. She was sneaky in that manner, suss out the other person before she decided to how bad she was going to look when she came into play.

"Ladies first!" She teased, offering him the table.

"thank you sir" John took the cue and twirled it between two fingers thinking how best to make his move. Normally he'd go straight in, and try and knock as many balls into the corner pockets as possible. But that was when he was actually playing seriously or for somebody else's money. And besides, no snooker player ever did their best shot first against an unknown opponent. Here he was just having a laugh. His shot sent the balls flying across the table in all directions, breaking up the central triangle. There were a couple of easy shots created, and two balls actually fell into the corner pockets of their own accord.

Kay laughed when he quipped back to her tease. She almost studied him as he figured out his first move. She could almost tell just from his own actions he was figuring it out like she was. Even though it was for a laugh and she was terrible, she just had the feeling it's get competitive. It was just a trait she had in her.

When he took his shot, she watched where each ball went, at first thinking she was going to be up next, when a couple of the balls went into the pockets. She leaned on her cue ever so slightly, crossing one foot over the other, the toe of her boot flat on the ground.

If wanted to John could have cheated his way through his next load of moves, knocking in all the balls one after the other, but that'd be no fun. And plus he wanted to see if Kay really was as bad as she claimed to be, or if it was like her and dancing, she was actually good, but didn't have the self belief to accept it. So he didn't his second shot went too wide, so he passed the cue over to Kay and stepped back to let her make her move. "Your move"

She watched as he made his next move, failing to pot any of the balls. It seemed to convient to her that he'd miss the easy moves. He was wanting to see how bad she really was, that much she could tell. She pushed herself upright from leaning on her own cue and walked up to the table. "Okay...let's see.." she muttered, as she checked out every angle first of the balls and what would be the best move to make.

She then found an angle that might be a good choice for her, so she stood at the right side of the table, leaning over, placing her cue in its position. She had good form considering how bad she was. Leaning into the shot, she pulled back on her cue before pushing it forward, hitting the ball she had targeted but as much as it clashed with the others surrounding it, she didn't pot anything. So she slowly stood up straight.

John watched her movements. She had good form, that much was obvious, but her aim was far off, sending the ball hurtling into the others. He took the cue back from her and circled the table, planning his next move. The angles weren't great, but with a bit of luck he could get a ball in via ricochet. So he tried that, bending down low and squinting carefully. He hit the ball dead on, and it bounced off a second ball, which fell into the corner hlle. His second shot yielded no more luck, so he passed the cue back

She handed the cue back to him and stood to one side to let him take control of the table. She watched him somehow manage to accomplish something out of her mess. She continued to watch as his second move failed, and she took the cue from him once more. Again, she walked round to pick her side, which ended up being the top left corner this time, and once more she leaned down, at this point a bit more than necessary, her body Benson at a right angle perfectly at the hips.

Again she guaged her shot up and took it. The ball rolled quickly across the table, hitting more of the balls in its path, but just as she thought a subsequent ball would fall into a pocket, it bounced off the side and dodged the pocket. So she slowly stood up, just to be that kind of woman and handed him back the cue. "Told you I'm bad"
