Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

John couldn't help but smirk at Jay's description of what she brought to the tech team. The way he read between the lines he saw it as Jay deliberately finding ways to bash and trash everything and then using the fact that life was unpredictable and just because it wouldn't normally happen didn't mean it would never happen. In a way he was right, Jay had initially set out with the goal to destroy the tech, after she'd removed the numerous tracking devices of course. Destroying the tech had been a sort of cathartic experience for her, particularly when she'd been their prisoner and not allow out into the outside world. On a more practical note it had become a game on innovation Kane and AJ would develop new tech, which she'd find flaws in from a practical point of view or seemly smash. This arms race had perfected one particular design of micro-tracking device to the point that Kane had patented it.

"And any fun you derive from smashing it is just a happy coincidence I take it?" John deadpanned, to which Jay responded in an equally deadpan way "of course"
which just emphasised that she did indeed enjoy smashing things up. Both Elliott and Jay nodded in unison at Kay's remark that they and the other members of AJ's crew made a good team. "Yeah we do make a good team, between us we cover most walks of life. Scott's got the Downworld aspect sorted. Kane's got access to a quite frankly scary large amount of cash as well as high society connections. The twins have a strange selection of skills they learned growing up in the Celtic warrior tradition they did. Their older brother owns the premises and runs the business, the restaurant does actually turn a a profit, it's extremely popular, and for good reason. Toby's the people person, sure she's got her own contacts in the carnie folk, but her biggest skill besides acrobatics is being able to figure out what makes people tick, she liaises wherever it's needed and does PR damage control I guess you'd call it to keep mentions of Kane out of the media. I've got the mage side of things and the off-worlders to an extent. Though that's really more of Jay's area as she speaks so many languages- along with being a mine of all kinds of information."

Fia was the one who smirked at John's remark about having fun smashing tech up, easily seeing how Jay would enjoy such a thing, just to make a point of its flaws or as a way of getting back at them for making her 'housebound' out of lack of trust. If she knew she could have gotten away with it like Jay would have, she probably have had a phase of lashing out in a similar manner out of sheer boredom growing up but she always cared about having her father's approval in things, so she refrained from it and if anything did get broken it was purely by accident, just like the accident with her laptop. It's only now she's learning to see her mother in a new light in this time that she would make an effort to be better with her mother in her time and actually listen and do right by her. Especially after she nearly lost her for good.

Kay listened to what Elliott explained about their group whilst also agreeing that they make a damn strong good team because of their varied skills. She may not have spent any long quality time with his group of friends but what little she did spend with them, she could definitely get a strong vibe from them that they'd all be there for each other no matter what and were able to collaborate all their skills together to become one hell of a formidable team when it came to it. She also couldn't help but note how he ended his words on giving Jay the most credit for their similar skill points. "well they're a good team. And cool people, even in my time" Fia spoke up to them both. She may not know them as well as Rinaa did, but she knew them well enough just from the visits to the restaurant for food, even if she did teased for being Elliott's baby half sister, but they all learned she was quick witted soon enough. She just wished she could hang out with them more like Rinaa did in her timeline. She just always had the feeling her and Toby would get on in particular because of their similarities in flexibility.

Some of the roles of AJ's group John and Chas had figured out through common sense and a little logic. The fact that the twins and their brother owned the premises for instance was obvious, especially since AJ had given his own name to the restaurant. Some of the other roles, not so much. John hadn't even considered the fact that aside from there being a whole community of Downworlders, celestials, demons and magic users, there was also meta-humans and aliens. The idea that there was potentially other Attili speakers on Earth blew his mind a little. Hearing all the roles listed out, it really did hammer home just what a divers group they had, and even if the relations between Jay and everybody else was strained, they seemed to be able to push things aside enough that they could all work together when it mattered. They'd all pulled together when Kay had been taken, letting John take the lead even though he wasn't one of the crew and when Scott had been bleeding out on the table they'd let Jay take control and boss them around. John could see how, with some more experience they could seriously be a force to be reckoned with and it wasn't surprising that in Rinaa's timeline where things were massively descending into interplanetary war that if had been AJ's crew who'd started the vigilante movement. Chas gave an appreciative whistle, "you guys've really got everything there haven't you?" "Bloody well sounds like it to me."

As the conversation had progressed both Cal and Cliff had tuned out somewhat (Dan hadn't been tuned in in the first place, having commandeered the newspaper to read). Once it became clear that John's fury was dying down the two women had headed to the kitchen to make a start on the dishes. Chances were nobody would be returning to the flat for a couple of weeks (even if Zan was to wake up that day, Cliff knew they'd have to keep him in for observations scans and potentially another surgery) and the dishes weren't going to do themselves. Now that they were finished, and Cliff was rinsing off the last of the suds Cal made her way over to the bookshelf and picked up the small photo frame. This caught Elliott's attention, prompting him to ask. "Cal, what're you doing?" "Well I figure that since there was a whole collage of personal photos hidden behind the wall prints, there's gotta be something significant behind the one personal photo which is actually on display" she explained, carefully prying the back off the frame, then shaking it to dislodge the contents. Her theory proved to be right, there was a second photo inside the frame. A very recent one based on the ages of those in it. The photo showing her father, her mother, Bec and Dexter standing on some kind of rocky outcrop with a city skyline in the distance behind them. She didn't recognise the view, but it was clearly a typical tourist one. Zan was in the middle, Mara on his left and and Bec on his right, all with their arms slung across somebody's shoulders. Bec was flashing a ride gesture with her free hand at the camera while Dexter was sprawled on the ground in front of the group, in a pose that was clearly a piss take of the classic 'sexy woman lounging on her side pose'.

It wasn't that surprising to Kay or Fia that Cal, Cliff and Dan would have zoned out of the conversation at hand a bit as they didn't know who these people they were talking about were. For Kay it was a case of just learning more about Elliott and Jay's group as they knew very little about them before they found themselves packing and leaving Earth to come get Elliott. She would never stop feeling grateful to them for willingly helping John find her when she was stuck in that dank underground room with two demns, ones of which was possessing Ethan, her old room mate from university days. She was thankful that one of them stayed with her as she died and came back whilst John took the lead in getting rid of the demons that took her in the first place, even though they could have just left her and ignore her existance, or let John deal with it on his own. She wasn't grateful however with the fact that day would always remind her of when she came back to life very much in her birthday suit and had to borrow John's coat to remain remotely dignified in front of them all. Of all the first impressions to make, that was not one she particularly wanted. She, like John however hadn't even given it a thought of who else on Earth that they would know or know of but it certainly was becoming clear to her now. FIa on the other hand, did know.

Fia also felt a bit bad that Cal and Cliff felt it their duty to do the rest of the washing up when she did start it earlier, but didn't finish as not everyone had finished eating when she had. She felt like she probably should have finished what she started instead of leaving it for someone else to pick up. However it was what they did after that piqued her curiosity, or more to the point what Cal did afterwards. She watched as Elliott asked what she was thinking, and Cal put her little theory to the test, finding it was indeed true. "What you find Cal?" she asked curiously, as she wasn't close enough to see exactly what the photo was of. Kay was also slightly curious but not nearly as much as Fia clearly was, if neither Cal or Elliott wanted to share it then they didn't need to. She was just getting slightly tired now she had eaten after doing some work. A moment she always hated as she always used to be a bit of a night owl.

Elliott watched intently as his sister pried the back from the photo frame and shook it gently, causing the second photo to fall out. He watched her face intently, searching for any clues as to what the content of this picture could be. There was first a look of surprise and a very slight hint of amusement before her golden eyes saddened. She didn't reply to Fia's question, just walked over to Elliott and handed him the photos and the frame. Elliott's expressions went through the same process as Cal- surprise at how recent it was, slight amusement at the silly pose and expression Dexter had chosen, followed by sadness at the sight of both his parents together. Unlike Cal he hadn't actually seen his mother during the last twelve(ish) years, and this was his first time seeing a photo of Mara that wasn't of a corpse with the back of her head blown out. Both looked incredibly happy, like there was nowhere else they'd rather be and it seemed to Elliott that they were looking more at each other than they were the camera.

He then looked up at Cal, an unspoken question in his eyes. She gave a simple nod of 'yes I got that too' in response. The two siblings shared a look which John could only described as emotionally complicated before Elliott's eyes returned to the photo. John badly wanted to see what exactly was provoking this reaction in the two, but knew this was something he shouldn't stick his oar into. So he waited, hoping that whatever it was on that photo would be something the siblings were willing to show. "Any idea where that city is?" Cal shook her head. "I don't, sadly." While Elliott passed the photo over to Jay so she could scrutinise the skyline Cal beckoned for her wife and Dan to come over ad take a look, figuring they would be the likely suspects for knowing where it was. Jay's eyes narrowed in thought before giving a shrug of 'I don't know' and passing it to the other two. Cliff didn't know either, but Dan did. "I know exactly where it is, that's the metropolis on Pharos-4. Went there once when I was much younger. It's a classic tourist destination. An excellent choice for meeting up with people you couldn't normally be seen with in public." After Cal gave her nod of approval the photo was passed to Chas and then on to the others in the room

The fact that Fia's question went unanswered told her that it wasn't her business to know at this current moment in time which she thought was utterly fair enough. Instead she just watched on to see the reactions that whatever was on the photo paper was inflicting on Cal and then Elliott. She noted how both their reactions mirrored each other's almost perfectly and knew whatever it was it was something deeply personal for them in some way and to do with their birth family. She kept quiet after her initial question went unanswered, knowing that if it was something they wanted to share they'd do it in their own time, just like John knew it. She did however hope they would be let in on the whole thing, even if it wasn't technically anything to do with the rest of them as such.

She watched on as the photo got passed to the next few people who may be able to answer Elliott's question about the location, finding it curious that it was only Dan who knew the location in the photo. His choice of words were also curious but she didn't ask anything, instead just saw as the photo got passed round to everyone else after, Fia being the last to see it, but when she did she took in all the poses at hand, noticing how happy Zan and Mara looked as they seemed more captivated by each other than looking toward the camera. She could see why Elliott and Cal would get look sad at it, especially Elliott as he hadn't seen his mother for far longer than Cal hadn't. Or so it always felt to her. She handed the photo back to Elliott after looking at it. "they seem so happy in the photo" she commented simply, it making her think of the rare photos from her timeline that would be her family's future, but in her time, their past. Despite everything, she knew there was at least one photo of her parents looking happy together that would come into existence for them, one that she adored because it felt so typical of them but was genuine. Maybe it was because Chas took the photo, maybe it was because they were slightly buzzed from alcohol consumption, or maybe it was something else but she knew their connection was true and she couldn't wait for her unborn self to grow up and experience her parents grow as well as people.

kind of thing had in my head, not the beat edit I've done but best I could do whilst trying to hide zari 2.0's face lol! But something along those lines of them being happy together. Juet ignore the other legends in the background lol

John took the photo and gave a quiet "huh" in reaction. What he really wanted to do was to make some kind of pithy comment about how it seemed Zan was actually able to smile. The expression the politician was sporting in the photo was far more genuine and broader than the small ghosts of a smile that he shown them when they were interrogating him. The man looked surprisingly normal in the photo, having shed the formal wear his job required him to wear in favour of more a practical t-shirt and jeans combination. He looked much more relaxed as well, his shoulders having lost the tension that they usually carried when he was on Attil. The look being exchanged by Zan and Mara didn't go amiss on him either, though he made no comment on that either, figuring that was what had provoked such a reaction in Elliott and Cal. Instead he passed the photo onto Kay who was beside him.

"How I know that is kind of a long story. I wasn't there for any dodgy reasons, it was just somewhere I wanted to visit." Dan told Cal, seeing the look on her face at his choice of words. He hadn't gone to that particular city for any illegal reasons, his motivation had been far more mundane than those adoptive daughter were thinking of. Growing up as one of three triplets his childhood and teenage years had been stressful and chaotic and at times bordering on oppressive. He'd gone to the metropolis on Pharos-4 shortly after he became a legal adult and had spent three very enjoyable days being a one of thousands of tourists. "But the way I see it is that Bec can't going anywhere with her brother where their family could see them, Zan can't go anywhere his birth family are and probably wants to get the hell away from Attil if he is to travel. Mara can't.... couldn't meet with Zan anywhere with prominent links to Attil." Both Cal and Elliott winced ever so slightly at the switch to the past tense. While they logically knew that Mara was dead, they had far from accepted it emotionally, so hearing it said aloud was a bit of a blow for them. After a moment of silence during which Dan's theory was translated and left to sink in Cliff spoke up. "Speaking of which, we should probably head back to the hospital and see what needs to be done with all this stuff" she gestured at the bags on the floor by the table.

Ah yes, I get the gist of it, I could easily see that moment being captured by Chas on a whim- and there probably was alcohol involved given the background setting

Before Fia got ahold of the photo, Kay took it from John and looked at it, picking up on the same things the others did and like the others, said nothing on the things she was spotting. It strangely made her wish she had every photo she used to own, instead of the two she had physically on her and the few she showed John all that time ago still at his apartment on Earth. She didn't waste too much time looking it over with her thoughts on it before she had given it to Fia who then gave it back to Elliott after she took a good look at it. Both her and Fia listened to what Dan was explaining about how he knew the place as well as the kind of place it was, finding it made sense that if it was somewhere they could all meet up without having to look over their shoulder constantly, they wouldn't hesitate to go there.

Both also saw how the use of past tense toward Mara made an emotional impact on Cal and Elliott. It was clear that neither had emotionally digested the fact that she was gone and they couldn't ever see her again if they ever so wished to. Both looked at Cliff as she said about heading to the hospital to get everything they found to Bec and Dexter, as well as the food, an idea which they both thought was a good idea. To them it was better to do it now rather than wait and leave the others waiting any longer than they need to be. "good idea. We probably shouldn't dally any longer than necessary" Kay agreed. She went to get up and felt a twinge which made her out of instinct go to grab the back of the chair but ended up grabbing John's arm instead and pause. As quickly as the twinge came, it went away and she managed to stand up properly, making her sigh out of relief for it being a short moment of pain and not a long one. She figured it was just because of the accelerated growth and her body was just coping with it all, so didn't worry, but that didn't mean it didn't catch her off guard when it happened.

agreed, just got it in my head they'd take a much earned night out, have Ell babysitting Fia or something and just let their hair down so to speak one night

When the look of raw vulnerability and sadness flickered across Elliott and Cal's face, both their respective partners took notice and took action. Cliff wrapped an arm around Cal and pulled her closer while Jay took Elliott's hand and linked her fingers with his, giving it a gentle squeeze. Both siblings nodded at Cliff's suggestion. "I agree, we've spent long enough here." During the time they'd spent in Zan's apartment it had begun to endear itself more to Cal, maybe it was because they'd found the real family photos or maybe it was because they'd actually explored it properly and seen the belongings and quirks that made it her father's home as opposed to somewhere to crash at nights. Seeing the photo of her parents and how happy they were not so long ago had sort of spooked her and she wanted to be back somewhere familiar. "And we did promise to bring the other two back food." Elliott added, before looking at his watch and giving a guilty grimace upon seeing just how much time had passed. It was evening now, and while it wasn't dark yest, it would be in a few hours. "Let's hope they weren't waiting on us to rush back with the food."

At the feeling of Kay's hand grabbing onto his shoulder John had to fight back the urge to flinch and yell 'OI watch it!'. Concern flitted across his face as he turned to look at Kay to see what was wrong. The expression faded when he saw that she was completely fine- no pale skin, clammy complexion or bending double as if about to vomit- just completely normal. Not wanting to draw attention to her, or himself for noticing he said nothing just waited for her to get up, guessing it to be one of those weird aches and pains his sister had complained about when she was pregnant. Getting up he knew was going to be more and more of a challenge as unborn Fia continued to grow, and he wasn't exactly looking forwards to those days in the future where he'd either have to be a crutch or engage in a game of tug-o-war to get Kay out of whatever chair she was in.

The train back was much more crowded as most were finishing up work for the day and heading back to wherever they needed to go. A seat was easily found for Kay- giving up your seat to a pregnant woman was clearly very much part of Attilian social etiquette. The hospital was also busier, there usually was a change of shift around now Cliff explained as they entered the building. The doctor let out a sigh of annoyance when somebody dressed in dark green scrubs with a messenger bag slung over the shoulders and a clipboard in one hand pushed past her as they headed out of the ER and into the main building containing wards. "I take it that's one of those 'delightful' temporary nurses you're always complaining about?' Cal asked, making airquotes around the word 'delightful' before gesturing at the back of the retreating figure, who compared to the other medical people was moving suspiciously fast.

That does sound like what would happen

Kay was thankful that John didn't make a point of drawing attention to the both of them, as she really didn't mean to grab ahold of him, but the chair instead. She just blindly reached out to the side and slightly behind her at the first thing she could grab out of surprise. She was so done with being pregnant, and as much as becoming a mother was terrifying her, she wished it would just be over already, even though she knew she couldn't just will it to it's final stages. She also preferably wouldn't want to have Fia on Attil but in the familiarity of either John's apartment or The House. When the pain flashed away, she loosened her grip on John, lightly patting it to say 'I'm okay, I'm okay' before looking at him to give him a small nod of thanks of keeping quiet. "just a twinge" she quietly said to him, wanting to keep his concern for her down. Like John, she wasn't looking forward to when she really would need help getting up and out of a chair. It was bad enough sometimes needing help if she was sat on the floor for whatever reason, but at least with that scenario that could happen to the best of people sometimes normally. Fia noticed out the corner of her eye what happened, but when she saw neither of them talking out loud about it, she decided to also keep quiet, even though every part of her wanted to ask if she was okay.

Being offered a seat on the train was of some relief to her, giving the stranger a nod of thanks for giving up their seat for her whilst also noting how she probably would have had to practically kick someone out of a seat in London to be able to sit down. Either that or make some very passive aggressive comments loud enough to guilt someone to offer up their seat. She was also glad she wasn't on this train whilst busy alone, the crowded atmosphere being slightly nerve-wracking to her. Once at the hospital, she noticed the difference in crowds also, finding Cliff's explanation completely valid. Seeing the young person in scrubs push passed Cliff made her think 'well that was rude' when there was no sight of an apology as they went passed. She didn't say anything, but it seemed Cal did have something to say about it. "that happen a lot?" Fia then asked.

John gave a curt nod at Kay's explanation, more relieved than he was willing to admit that it was nothing serious. Logically he knew at some point she'd have to give birth and he honestly had no idea how to feel about it. He hadn't been allowed in the room when Cheryl was giving birth, even though he was her closest (and only living relative) and the father if the baby had just walked out on her. He had no idea what to expect from a human birth and it had crossed his mind more than once that it mightn't even be a 'normal' birth. Kay wasn't a normal human and in John's experience the birth of a Downworlder/Darkworlder or Celestial was an event. He'd been present for the birth of werewolf pups, helped with the birth of a Pegasus and had witnessed a unicorn (or more technically corrupted magic that manifested itself as a unicorn because a pompous arsehole believed he could will such a creature into existence) using it's horn to tear itself out of the womb of it's surrogate horse mother before attempting to go on a murderous rampage. The last one had been bloody and brutal and the only good thing about the experience had been the firm knee to the balls John had given to said richer tosser. Not exactly the kind of experiences that instilled confidence in somebody about to be present at the birth of their biological kid for the first time.

As they passed through the hospital doors and the person so rudely pushed past them John did let out an "OI watch it!" of annoyance, speaking in Attili to be sure his message was understood. The person gave no sign they'd heard John and certainly didn't give any apology and John couldn't help but shake his fist at the restarting figure. Cal answered Fia's question first. "With the regular staff, no, they all have respect for one another and know how to steer clear. The problem, according to my wife is the outside consultants, or more specifically the arrogant ones who think they run the place and the temporary staff drafted in when there's a shortage of regular staff." Cliff nodded her agreement, giving a sheepish grin "Yeah I complain about it a lot. When you spend so much of your day dealing with illness and sickness, the last thing you want to deal with is rudeness that could SO easily be avoided. And yes, Cal's right, it's only a problems with the outside doctors, worrying families who have other things on their minds and...." Cliff trailed off, stopping dead in her tracks. "What? What is it? Are you alright?" Cal asked, the worry clear on her face. Cliff's response was to swear in her native tongue, her face paling. "Cliff?" Cal asked, her tone softer, but just as worried. "That person who just pushed past us.... they weren't staff." She turned to face her wife, realisation and a look of panic in her eyes "they're an impostor."

John wasn't the only one who found the day of the birth of Fia crossing his mind more than once. It had for Kay as well as she didn't even know what to expect either. She had no idea if she would be able to have a normal human birth or if something more magical based would happen. She did think that from what Fee had said before on the day they found out Fia was to happen, that it would no doubt be one hell of an event and they should indeed expect to have shit come to their door when it happens. It was that unknowing side that she was absolutely terrified of. For all she knew the birth could temporarily kill her or worse, properly kill her. She may have to do it alone and she most definitely did not want to do it alone, she wanted John there when it occurs, she wanted the reassurance that if she was to die from it, at least she wouldn't die alone. John could keep Fia safe whilst she went through the rebirth stage, if she was lucky. Then there was the whole fact she could have been several times over overthinking everything.

John's little call out to the rude runner in the hospital corridor made Kay smirk ever so slightly and briefly as it seemed he had been wanting to say that ever since she accidentally grabbed ahold of him, and there and then was the perfect opportunity for him to say it. It didn't even occur to her that the person could be anything but a nurse of some kind, as it seemed to be the case with Fia as she asked if it was a regular thing in the hospital. She and Fia both listened to the explanation that Cal gave Fia to her question, as Fia was unable to resist rolling her eyes and give the 'urgh, those kinds of people are the worst' scoff. Yet it was when Cliff suddenly realised that that person was no nurse at all but an imposter that made both Fia and Kay go wide eyed. "you don't think...?" Kay asked, letting her words trail off as she really did not want to finish the sentence that was stirring round in her head. "I bloody hope not but let's get moving just incase" Fia replied.

John's response to Cal's explanation was identical to Fia's right down to the way they rolled their eyes in unison. John hated those kinds of people, though he very much had double standards on the matter, he'd all too happily barge through a crowd of people without the slightest hint of apology should the situation call for it, but it anybody else did it to him they'd have a first shaken aggressively at them, or some insults flung at their retreating back. When Cliff froze, then declared that the nurse was an impostor John, Chas, Dan, Cal, Elliott and Jay all felt their stomachs drop. "Oh bollocks" John gasped as Kay trailed off, understanding exactly what she was implying. There was only one reason he could think of for somebody to sneak into the hospital disguised as a nurse and judging by the way Cal, Cliff and Elliott all looked considerably paler than they had seconds ago, they were thinking the same thing. Elliott raised a hand to his mouth in shock, rendered momentarily speechless.

"How sure are you?" Cal asked, panic visible in her eyes. She'd never wanted her wife to be wrong more than she had in this moment. Cliff fixed them all with a firm look. "Almost a hundred percent. Nobody carries a satchel, or any kind of bag when on duty, it's inconvenient and the equipment is usually in the patients room or ward. And their shoes were wrong too... they weren't wearing the quiet non slip kind that every medical practitioner wears." The more she spoke, the more certain her tone became and the more serious an expression she adopted. This wasn't a joke, Cliff genuinely believed and had evidence that this nurse person wasn't kosher. Cal's response was to swear viciously, which jolted Elliott back to being able to speak and move again. "Well it's no good just standing here! Which way is the room?"

Cliff led the way, at first walking briskly, but with each second that passed by where she didn't see the mysterious nurse she sped up until she was practically sprinting down the corridor. "Medical emergency! Clear the way!" she yelled. It was technically true, and if there wasn't one currently going on there would be if they got to Zan's room and found a dead body. Chas kept pace with Kay, but he was the only one of that lot to do so, the rest were firmly behind Cliff, flat out sprinting. It was just as they were rounding the corner to the ICU corridor that they heard the cry followed by the sound of a gunshot. They were greeted by the sight of Dexter falling to the ground in the door way of the room, bullet hole visible in his polo-neck. This was followed a second or so later by a body clad in dark green scrubs flying out the door propelled by some kind of blast wave, a blast wave with a distinct magical feel to it. The 'nurse' wasn't unconscious merely slightly stunned, but clearly ahd every intention of getting back up onto their feet and either fighting or making a run for it.

Kay and FIa both wanted Cliff to be wrong or at least wrong enough that it wasn't Zan this imposter would be going after, but that gut feeling in both of them said the doctor wasn't wrong and this imposter was indeed going after Zan to finish the job that it was started by the assassin. The way everyone was coming to the same realisation as she was, told Kay that she possibly was not wrong about her assumption in her trailed off question. She and Fia listened to Cal asking Cliff how sure she was, clearly hoping that Cliff was wrong, but as Cliff listed off the reasons for her suspicions, they both knew this was definitely no time to be dilly dallying in this corridor and like Fia and Elliott said, they needed to move and move fast. Both started walking briskly with everyone else as Cliff lead the way to Zan's room, yet as everyone else started sprinting, Kay just kept a brisk walk, knowing she would be risking too much if she tried to run at a sprinting pace. Of all the times to be quite heavily pregnant, now was not a time that was convienant and as much as she felt bad for Chas feeling like he had to keep pace with her and not the others, she was actually rather relieved about it. Fia on the other hand, kept pace with Cliff and the others, having no qualms in sprinting with everyone else to try and stop what could end up happening.

That hope that they reach the room before something happened though was instantly diminished when they heard a gunshot and saw the imposter nurse come flying out of the room as she felt the distinct aura of magic having being used. "bloody hells, that was some serious magic usage" She gasped as they etched closer and saw the sight of Dexter with a gunshot wound as well the imposter. She instantly went on defence and offence all at the same time, being more than prepared to bet the living crap out of someone if it warranted it. She was so done with seeing being shot or attacked, especially people who didn't deserve it like Dexter. She the imposter stunned on the floor and out of sheer fight or flight instinct, stood in front of the person on the floor, "i don't think so" She spoke in Attili firmly, making sure that she was prepared to beat the person back down onto the floor if they tried to get up and keep them there until the right people could come and deal with them. She didn't even take notice if anyone stood by her to also stop this person from getting away, whilst she had no doubts that Cliff would go straight to Dexter and Zan to check on them and Bec for their current status. Kay, with Chas soon made it to the room and saw the stand off between everyone, not wanting Fia in the front like that but she also knew the girl could more than handle herself and knew it was far more important for her to stand up if she could than Fia.

"Shit!" Elliott yelled at the sight at the same time as John exclaimed "what the bleedin'...?" both sensing the distinctive magical aura behind the blast wave and not recognising it as belonging to the other or to Fia. It wasn't as strong as the magic of either of the three's, but gut instinct told John there had been some form of training. Expecting a second blast to come both cast their own protective shields, John casting in front of them, while Elliott cast behind making sure that as well as protecting Kay, Chas, Jay and his sister that it also covered the corridor door. The last thing they needed was some innocent medical person getting shot. While they had chosen to cast shields Fia had taken it upon herself to get right up close and personal with the assassin. Not a smart move, at the sound of the teenager voice the assassin's eyes narrowed slits and they moved like quicksilver, striking out with their legs, hooking them around Fia's calves and sending the girl crashing to the floor barely a second after she'd the last word of her bold proclamation had left her mouth.

The assassin then jumped back to their feet, cocking their for their weapon, with every intent to shoot straight up shoot Fia in the head. Once again John and Elliott acted in unison, years of working together against the various threats of the magical world meant they were an excellent team and knew on instinct what the other was going to do (well they knew most of the time, both could be unpredictable when the situation called for it- particularly John). Both chose to go for a blast of magical energy, John's was broad and aimed at the 'nurse's' back with the intent of sending them sprawling once again, while Elliott's was specifically focused on the gun.

"They're mine!" Jay yelled, taking a run-up and throwing herself into a rugby tackle type move at the assassin, wrapping her arms around the nurse's legs and sending them both sprawling to the ground. The 'nurse' gritted their teeth and began viciously kicking out, one flailing leg connecting with Jay's face with a horrible sound as they struggle, the 'nurse' trying to get up, jay doing her damnedest to keep them down using every part of her body. The 'nurse' was then pummelled by another blast of energy, sending them back against the wall again. The source of the blast was Bec, striding out of the hospital room with a scowl like thunder, sips of magical energy visible around her hands and a slight glow visible at her throat where the chain containing the rings and talisman hung.

Fia was glad that John and Elliott cast protective shields around them and the door, even though she just knew that they would do such a thing first. She only went to the assassin first because she was confident she could have got a restraining spell used to keep them down before letting Jay take over, she was trained combat wise by Jay after all and it didn't even cross her mind to do anything else. It may not have been the smartest move but her instincts of 'I've fought bigger than an assassin' kicked in. Yet just as she was going to restrain them, she got kicked out from under her legs making her go flying down toward the floor. She didn't waste time in flipping back up onto her feet, scowling at the cheap shot they took toward her. She watched as the assassin cocked their weapon with the intent to kill her. She went to make a counter blast, but her father and brother both beat her to it, which she was equally pissed off about and thankful for it. Seeing the gun that Elliott managed to blast away, she moved to kick it further away safely but quickly. With Jay declaring they were hers, she quickly turned sideways to give Jay the extra room to run and rugby tackle the assassin. She kept a close eye on what was going on just incase she needed to give Jay some kind of backup, the sound of something in Jay's face snapping making her wince ever so slightly but it was the next blast of magic that she didn't recognise that made her snap her head toward its starting point, seeing it was indeed Bec with the talisman that she noticed before. "what the...?" she questioned baffled.

Kay kept back as John, Elliott, Fia and Jay took charge of dealing with this assassin that was attempting to finish the job of killing Zan. When Fia went flying onto the floor, she wished she didn't have a future daughter so willing to dive into danger, but was thankful that John and Elliott was there to give her the very much needed backup, as the sight of having a gun pointed at her daughter's head was too worrying to witness. Every part of her wanted to shout and save Fia, but she knew she couldn't because 1) the others were on top of this and 2) her current situation prevented her being her normal fighting self. She had never felt so helpless, vulnerable and useless as she did in this moment. A sigh of relief escaped her mouth when Elliott managed to get rid of the gun with John's help to save Fia, before Jay jumped into action. She remained partly behind Chas for safety reasons, not wanting to risk the assassin getting away from Jay and seeing her as the easy target to be used as a get away plan. She knew that if the assassin saw she was pregnant, she could easily be the best target to attack as everyone would be worried for a pregnant woman's state and not focus on the assassin, making it the perfect time to get away. She just hoped she was behind him enough.

After the brief moment of being baffled Fia quickly snapped back into the room mentally and saw how Jay was still fighting the assassin and she got an idea, hoping it would work. Unknowing to her, the thought Kay had was the same thought that went through Fia's head, making her quickly think up her restraining spell she intended to use from the beginning and aimed it for the assassin's legs, hoping it would help Jay in getting the upper hand whilst also preventing her from obtaining anymore facial blows.

Jay had wanted to call out a warning for Fia not to get too close, knowing that she was well within the range for a leg strike- a move any assassin worth their salt learned as soon as possible as it allowed them to gain the vital seconds needed to get back on their feet again in a fight- but things happened too quickly and Jay had just opened her mouth when the 'nurse' moved, viciously lashing out and sending the teenager sprawling to the ground. Throwing herself at the other killer was far from the most dignified move, but clearly pummelling whoever it was with magic wasn't working (or at least it wasn't having enough of an effect for jay's liking) the 'nurse' was far too able to make a getaway. The scuffle on the floor was dirty and the force behind the kicks was quite something. Jay let out a a half-yelp-half-growl of both pain and anger when the 'nurse's' foot connected with her face, judging by the sickening crunch and the feeling of blood running into her throat it had broken or at the very least fractured Jay's nose.

The kick threw Jay off but it didn't stop her, it only angered her and made her more determined that this particular killer wasn't going to get away. Tipping her head to one side she spat the blood from her mouth into the face of the 'nurse', momentarily blinding them. Jay then threw herself onto the assassin, going for the hair, raking her hails across the other's scalp as she grabbed hold of a large clump of hair. The force of Bec's next blast blew Jay slightly to one side, the woman tearing out a large chunk of thw nurse's hair in the process. Jay instinctively curling her body into a roll to minimise the damage. In a way it was a lucky coincidence that she'd been hit by the blast, had she not been blown out of the way she too would have had her legs caught up in the bindings manifested by Fia's restraining spell. Even with the legs bound the fake nurse refused to give in, first using their hands to push the bindings off their legs and when they saw that wasn't going to work, their body began to distort and warp. Their limbs elongated and began to tun black and scaly. "What the bleeding hell? You're a..." John didn't even get to finish his sentence let alone make a comment on the talisman which was now glowing faintly under the woman's hoodie. The way it glowed in response to the woman's magic use reminded him vaguely of the totems of Zambesi that he'd ended up helping Sara Lance and her band of motley superhero and villain outcasts to collect. Bec cut him off with a yell of. "Not the time! Bindings are no good on their kind..... at least not until they've fully shifted."

The half shifted creature lashed out with a snake-like hiss bordering on feral, and in one smooth undulation threw the bindings away, sending them flying in Bec's direction. An incantation in a language John and Elliott didn't recognise, accompanied by a gesture both did recognise and a shield materialised in front of the woman's crossed arms. That was followed by the snake-creature releasing jets of acid from specially shaped fangs. It was clearly acid as the drops that landed on the wall and Jay's boot began to eat through the material. "You need fire to stop this thing!" Bec yelled "it hunts using body heat!".

Without the wings and in reverse obviously

FIa thought for a moment that she had managed to restrain the assassin long enough for someone to get the upper hand, but it was clear that they were doing all they could to get out of the restraints and was managing succeed to getting free from the moment they began to shift. "Aww shit!" Fia cursed after Bec called out her information. The half shift was disconcerting to say the least to Fia and hoped they could get out of this without anyone getting seriously hurt by whatever next attack this assasin was going to dish out. It was bad enough that Jay had clearly now got a broken nose out of this fight. She hated that this being managed to just get rid fo her restraints relatively easy and threw them toward Bec who managed to stop them frm hitting her with an incantation that she did not recognise, just as John and Elliott didn't. She saw as the acid came toward Bec and and Jay and the rest of them, burning through Jay's boot material, knowing if they didn't do something fast then they really were truly and utterly fucked. She could even see how Chas couldn't even truly get Kay out of the area safely without possibly being targeted and that angered her just as much as she felt they were stuck in a box with no way out. That was until Bec said about needing fire, to which she started smirking like she just heard the best news of the day.

"well isn't that fortunate?! Plenty of pyros on this team!" She remarked as she then looked at Cal, "ready to tag team this one?!" she asked as she opened her hands flat out igniting her hands in the process. If it was fire they needed and fire they had, then in Fia's mind they could win this. Not only was Cal a pyrokenetic, but they had two phoenixes on their team, one of which who was more than able to fight. With Cal's stand magical fire and her own phoenix flame they could be more than a strong opponenant for this assassin. Her mind raced with two options, they either just straight up kill this assassin here in the hospital or they try and lure it outside by making it follow them and she herself uses phoenix flame to just completely burn them to death. Either way it would be a difficult task but it was their best option. Kay wanted nothing more than to say to Fia to be careful but she knew this was not the time or place to do so. She didn't want to distract her future daughter by saying such words, and if she wasn't pregnant she would have wasted no time in just burning the living crap out of this shifter. She wasn't a fan of snakes at the best of times and now here she was seeing a snake shifter. If they weren't in immediate danger, she would have wondered if her dislike of snakes had anything to do with the whole paradise history of her kind and Eve's connection to her kind and how it was said the snake tempted her to take that apple from the tree. "whatever you guys do, do it quickly" she said instead, trying her hardest to stay behind everyone.

Jay cursed to herself when she saw the transformation begin, she recognised the creature and began to back away, remembering that in snake form this creature released an acidic venom that ate through most surfaces. She wasn't quick enough to entirely avoid it and as she felt the heat of the acid reacting as it ate through her boot she saw only one possible course of action, get rid of the disintegrating boot before her entire foot went the same way. Bec's magical shield was nearest and clearly worked against the acid the now fully transformed snake creature was spitting at them, so Jay rolled over to behind the woman. Beck on her feet again she reached up with one hand and pushed her nose back against her face with a sickening crunch trying not to choke on the blood that suddenly rushed down her throat. Gritting her teeth she focused her energy, silently praying to the few gods she believed in that for once her inherited (and highly temperamental) healing powers would work and do something about her nose. And surprisngly they did, knitting the bone back together, albeit in a crooked manner. Jay knew she'd have to get it properly set later, but a wonky nose was far more preferable to not being able to breathe properly.

Cal couldn't help but grin at when Bec said that fire was the solution to their problem, wasting no time in igniting her hands with flame. During the course of their run through hospital she dropped her jacket, meaning now she could engulf her whole forearms in flame without running the risk of setting her clothing on fire. "More than ready. This" her choice of swear word was one Fia wouldn't recognise, but it was far from a flattering term given the venom Cal spat it out with "needs to be taught a lesson." She and Fia weren't the only ones to think that the fact that fire was needed to defeat this creature was the best news they'd heard all day. John and Elliott may not be pyrokinetics in the way that Cal, Fia and Kay were, but that didn't meant they were going to be useless in this situation. John was known as the Hellblazer after all, one didn't get a name like that without using fire liberally. And now that both men had access to their respective magic again, there was nothing from stopping them from lighting up their hands in flame in the same way that Cal and Fia were. Elliott was like Fia and lit his hands up when his hands were flat, where as John let his hands flame up when they were in fists (after first rubbing them with a mixture of silver powder, Hell ash, magnesium and some other suspect powders that created magical fire). "Well in that case, we're more than bloody equipped to burn the shit out of this thing." "So long as we remain in this hospital." Elliott added. Outside the building they would all lose their magical advantage and the upper hand, Fia, Jay, Cal and maybe Cliff would be the only ones able to do anything as Elliott's secondary power of MindWalking and his tertiary power of power amplification would do none of them any real good.

"The real question is do we want this one alive or dead?" Jay aimed her words at Bec, readying herself into a fighting stance should the shield fail she'd need to be ready to fight the 'nurse'. The reply was instant. "It doesn't have to be in one piece, just alive enough to talk. I want answers." That declaration was followed by an order. "Anybody not fighting this thing, get into my brother's room!" At her use of the word brother the snake creature hissed, drew back and flung itself towards Bec's sheild, clearly trying to get towards the rooom containing Zan. the shield flickered alarmingly under it's onslaught, suggesting that Bec wasn't the strongest magic user. "Get your doctor to see if there's shifter blockers anywhere nearby! Most hospitals have 'em." The woman added, gritting her teeth, sweat already beginning to show on her hairline, drawing back her arms, before powering them forwards. The shield blasted forwards, sending the snake creature flying backwards again and once again the talisman glowed at her throat, though not as strong as it would've if it was her own talisman.

Fia smirked at Cal's reply to her about being more than ready to end this once and for all. Fia was determined to make a great deal of damage as pay back for being caught off guard and thrown to the ground by the creature before it was a creature. She didn't get taken off guard too often and when she did she hated it, especially as a firearm was aimed right at her head. Sure, she had the upper hand of her phoenix bloodline, but she was only half phoenix and where she grew up focusing on her mage side, she had no idea how the whole rebirth process would even work for her. She hadn't experienced death yet, so she didn't know if coming back to life would be the same for her as it would be for Kay. She knew she would come back, but not how. She also didn't know more importantly how that would have affected Kay carrying her unborn self and if that would cause problems for Kay or not. So the fact Jay stepped in before it got that far was a relief, but it did mean she didn't get to get a shot back properly.... Until now. She may not have recognised the curse word Cal uses, but she certainly got the jist of it.

Unlike Cal, she didn't remove her jacket at any point, but her sleeves were rolled up enough to not get hit by her flames. She could tell out the corner of her eyes that John and Elliott were also relieved to know that with the mention of fire, that they very much had the upper hand right now if they just remained in the hospital. At the mention of Bec only wanting the creature alive enough to give her answers, Fia nodded. "fine by me" she commented, after seeing how Bec clearly wouldn't be able to hold the shield barrier up for much longer. "Kay get in the room, we got this" she remarked, hating having to call her mother by her first name, but knew she had to right now. Kay didn't need telling twice as she didn't hesitate to get into Zan's room for safety, "give them hell" she told them all as she exited the fight. As much as she wanted Fia to back down, she knew the teenager wouldn't so decided that as long as she wasn't fighting alone she would be alright. Fia wasn't the only one thinking that if anything happened to her then it could affect Kay, Kay was also thinking it. Once in the room she watched as Bec managed to blast the creature back down the corridor a bit to give them all more room for their attacks. Fia watched and calculated the distance that the creature went, whilst also keeping it at the front of her mind that they needed to watch the acid attacks. Luckily for her, she had wings she could let out to avoid those attacks if it came to it.

"let's do this!" Fia said, stepping forward ever so slightly but staying close to everyone at the same time. She moved her hands forward and up as if to mold the flames in her hands, a technique that had been picked up after she would do it for certain incantations and spells. It just naturally moved from spells to controlling her fire. She then pushed her hands forward, sending the flames toward the creature, the flames forming the shapes of arrows to pin the creature down in place into the nearest wall.

Chas wasn't usually one to shy away from confronation, but in this instance he did, understanding that the person/snake-creature they were fighting was far beyond his capabilities, he had no magical powers, no pyrokinesis (no superhuman powers of any kind) and no weapon. the only thing he could do was die and come back to life, but thet would really serve no useful purpose apart from wasting one of his limited lives. the others clearly had it handled between them. There was also the matter of Kay- she may be a mythical creature leagues more powerful than he was, but she was also pregnant and terrified of doing anything that might have consqeuences for unborn Fia or grown-up Fia- dying to ensure she got a head start at getting away was a sacrifice he'd be more than willing to make he wasted no time in following Kay into the medical room. Inside he was confronted with two surprisng things- the first was the reason Bec's magical shield had failed outside, around Zan's body was a second shield, the very last line of defence should those fighting on teh corridor fail or another assassin show up and attempt to kill her brother.

The second was arguably more surprising. Dexter was not, as he suspected lying on the floor bleeding out while Cliff did her damnedest to stop the flow of blood from a nasty gunshot wound in his side. There was no blood to speak of, in fact there was no wound. As soon as Cliff had felt that the photographer's pulse was strong and steady, she knew something was amiss. A quick inspection of his side revealed- instead of bloody, squelchy, partically disintegrated flesh- a flat compressed circle of metal that had formerly been a bullet and a bulletproof vest made of Kevlar type material underneath his polo-neck. Both were rooting through the medical supples in the corner of the room, evidently having heard Bec's shout for what they needed. Cliff pushed a box of syringes, each in individual, sterile packaging in the direction of Chas and Kay. "One of you find a 60 milliltre syringe amongst this lot, we'll find the shifter blockers!" she ordered.

Back outside the creature (John refused to think of it as a person now that they were in their animal form) let out a hideous shrieking hiss as they were impaled by Fia's fire darts. It was an impressive move, one he hadn't ever thought of himself and would have made some comment on it were they not fighting for their lives. He, Elliott and Fia made their ways forwards while Bec and Jay strategically dropped back, the shield in front of them flickering alarmingly, clearly not going to hold much longer. Cal stepped forwards and took action, creating a wall of fire in front of the shield. The heat from the white hot flames well and truly obscured Bec and Jay's heat signature, allowing them to move to a safer position behind the group. Bec's shield flickered out shortly after that, though she did ready a blast of magical energy between her hands in case things went sideways. Jay sidled beside Elliott. "Light this up" she told him, holding out her partially disitegrated boot. "You pin the tail, I'll ring it." Elliott obeyed, first lighting up the boot, then shaping a fire blast of his own, copying the shaping method his sister by adoption used to create a set of horseshoe shaped loops(Similar to those used in croquet). He then pushed his hands outwards firing the loops so that they pinned the lower part of the snake creature to the wall, forcing the tip of it's tail upright as a target for Jay to throw the boot on. At the same time as they did that, John dealt with what he saw to be the most urgent problem- those acid spitting fangs. "Oh shut the bloody Hells up will ya!" John yelled, before speaking the incantation for a gagging spell, which manifested as a physical binding around the monster snake's mouth, neatly tying it's jaw shut and preventing it from spitting any more acid.

Kay didn't know what she could have been expecting when she got into the room, having focused on actually getting into the room at the time. So when she saw the barrier shield over Zan's body, it became a bit of a surprise but it also made sense that Bec would want to do anything she could to protect her brother's body whilst he couldn't protect himself. It also made sense that if there was a shield for Zan, then that would be the reason for the shield being weak in the corridor around the rest of her family and Bec herself. Like with Chas, she also found it highly surprising if not the most surprising that Dexter wasn't on the floor in a bloody mess after being shot in the chest. She couldn't help but take a brief glance at why that was the case before Cliff was telling her and Chas to look for a syringe out of the box that Cliff pushed toward herself and Chas and she quickly grabbed it and rummaged through it carefully but quickly, checking the size of each and every one she looked at before finding the syringe that was required, handing it over to Cliff. "Found it! Here" she said. It was only after she handed over the syringe that she truly took notice of the fact Chas followed her into the room, presumingly to keep her safe. She didn't know if it was her benefit, his kind soul's benefit, the fact he had no power of any kind to fight that creautre outside or John's sake, but either way she was thankful that he did. She just hoped that it wouldn't come to a single moment where he would have waste another life to save her and Cliff.

Outside in the corridor Fia felt glad that her action (which was a favourite tactic to use if it was required) actually still worked on this thing. She could also tell that John was imrpessed by her choice of action, and knew if they weren't fighting for their lives she probably would have attempted to beat him in saying something about it, but now was not the kind for quick witted comments about what she could do. She was also aware that he had only truly seen her fight like a normal human with her blades when it came to stopping demons grab her mother in her timeline, this making it the first time he had seen her use magic properly, other than opening up the portal to time travel to seventeen years in the future. She let Cal step forward to create a large fire wall that would completely cover the width of the shield, whilst also causing the shield to now break down and disappear, making all their heat signatures get swallowed up by the fire wall and disguised. It was a clever move in Fia's mind as she could see that that gave Jay and Bec the opening they needed to move forward finally, whilst Jay went to Elliott and told him what to do. From out the corner of her eye, she couldn't help but smirk at how he practically mimicked what she did in how he moved his hands to create the hooks Jay needed with the boot to continue keeping the creature pinned down and lift it's tail upright. Being who she was, she could see how their powers and the way they moved their hands were so similar, and dare she say it, almost a family trademark in how they used their magics.

Then came the issue of the fangs and acid that they could spit, which she gladly let her father deal with, seeing that even in a fight for their lives he really couldn't help but open his mouth and give some sass as he managed to say the incantation for the gagging spell, managing to stop the creature from hissing and spitting frantically. "Bec you're up!" Fia said, knowing it was now down to her and Jay to do what they needed to get Bec's answers she wanted and needed, whilst also ending this fight once and for all and getting rid of this damn snake.

Chas wasted no time in helping root through the box of syringe packets for one of the right size. In the back of his mind he was saying 'surely this hospital should be more organised about how it stores these things' before realising that they had been organised before, and it had been Cliff and Dexter who'd messed them up in their frantic search for whatever it was they needed. Cliff took the set of syringes with a grateful nod, ripping open the packaging and taking out three syringes, setting them down on the beside table along with three vials of liquid. Bec may only have asked for the shifter blockers, but as the resident doctor Cliff knew that in order to get the bast result out of the blockers (as well as give the group enough time catch up on what had happened since they'd last met) two other things would need to be administered as well. Cliff filled up the first syringe half way with a pale, pale yellow liquid, before passing it to the photographer who ran from the room.

John was far extremely pleased with how his magical gag worked out and how effieciently it stopped the creature from spitting the acidic venom. He could see the muscles twiching under skin as the snake tried to break free of the bindings, but with their body so effectively pinned down by Fia's fire arrows and Elliott's horseshoe loops and their hands shifted into snake sinews, it was an impossible task. The spell John had used was originally conceieved to be used on rabid/angry dogs to keep their muzzles shut and thus stop them from biting you, but as all mages knew, just because a spell had been made for one thing didn't mean it couldn't be used for a whole manner of other applications. Jay walked forwards with Bec, both sported grim expressions, both making it visibly clear that they weren't beyond using violence to get answers, though Jay's look was conveying that shed take a sick pleasure out of any kind of torture where as Bec's made it clear she wanted retribution and answers. Jay stared the snake right in it's amber eyes as she slowly placed the burning boot over the tail. The result was instananeous, a spasm of movement as the snake tried to get away and a shrieking hiss of pain muffled by the gag.

Bec's approach was different, she went right for the head of the snake, forcing a thumb under the scales of it's 'neck' deep into the sensitive tissue underneath. She stared the animal dead in the eyes, unblinking and when she spoke it wasn't in Attili (or in any other language they recognised) but in a series of chilling hisses. Elliott quickly cast a translation spell over their group. They'd already broken the 'we're not going to use magic on Atttil rule' so he figured at least one of them should use it for something that wasn't beating the shit out of this assassin. "Let me make one thing quite clear. She" by which Bec clearly meant Jay "may be a trained assassin, but I am a biologist. I did my pHD on serpent shifters. So I know exactly how to cause you pain in both forms. I will get answers. Understand?" As she spoke she dug her thumbnail right into the extra sensitive flesh underneath, causing black-red blood to ooze from the wound. Anything she was going to say next was interrupted by Dexter arriving in the corridor and throwing the syringe towards her like it was some kind of dart. Bec caught it with an ease that suggested this wasn't her first time and in one smooth move inserted it under the scales and depressed the plunger. The snake thrashed at the intrusion, though it's movements quickly slowed and it slumped motionless against the wall. Cliff arrived out a few seconds later with the other two syringes, one filled with colourless liquid, the other a strange iridesenct blue. "That was a complete muscle relaxant, shold last about least seven hours, it depends on metabolism. These two will switch it back to biped form and will prevent it from shifting back for twelve hours."

Fia continued to keep watch just incase the snake assassin shifter did manage to break free, but she had full faith in her abilities as a mage and a phoenix that unless the opponent was as rare and strong as phoenix flame, then they weren't getting free any time soon, not unless she willed the flame arrows to dissipate and she had no plans on getting rid of them any time soon. That didn't mean she didn't keep a watchful eye on the shifter anyway just incase, being prepared to make yet another set of restraints if it called for it. She stood tall and strong beside her father and half brother as Jay and Bec both stepped toward the shifter after Dexter came out and handed Bec the first syringe, as she also noted the looks on both of their faces, recognising the universal look of 'I will do whatever it takes' clearly. If it was for any other situation or on TV, she may have winced at the way Bec shoved her fingers under the scales to cause pain but in her eyes, this was now a job and she just watched without showing any emotion or reactions on her face. After the shifter tried to shoot her in the head, she was actually glad that this being was getting everything Jay and Bec deemed necessary to get answers. She didn't use handguns for a reason, or at least as few times as possible, they weren't for her. She much preferred blades, normal melee attacks and magic to get out of a situation. To her guns were for a lot of the time cowardly, not that she would ever say that out loud knowing that Chas was very capable at using them and Jay. So having one shoved in her face did not go down well to her at all, and if she could have set the shifter on fire completely just to make a point, she would have.

With Bec speaking in a tongue that she and the others didn't recognise, she found herself curious and was about to activate her translation rune when Elliott got there first and cast the translation spell for them all so they could instantly know what was being demanded of the shifter. Hearing Bec start her talking with her job title was a nice little touch in Fia's eyes, it even bringing a small smirk to her lips. She watched as Bec managed to draw blood just as Dexter came running in eith the syringe which Bec gladly took and administered. Seeing the way the shifter thrashed from it and then slumped against the wall, she managed to figure it was some kind of relaxant which in her mind was a very smart move. With Cliff's arrival, she couldn't help but glance at the colour liquids in the other two syringes whilst listening to what Cliff was saying. It made sense that they'd need to go through all these hoops to get what they wanted if they wanted to remain very much unscathed. "good, plenty of time for Bec to get her answers" she had to remark.

With Cliff and Dexter both exiting the room, Kay couldn't help but walk to the room's doorway and peer out to see what has gone down and how well they were all doing. She could see in the near distance that the shifter was very securely pinned to the wall and the others were all around on standby whilst Jay and Bec were up close to the shifter instead. "they got the upper hand so far" she said back to Chas, before pulling her head back into the room again. What she didn't say was that seeing Fia, John and Elliott all standing side by side in near identical stances was quite a sight to see and somehow brought a sense of pride toward them all. It was a sight she wouldn't forget any time soon and would probably find it would inspire an art piece for her sometime in the future.

When Bec first began speaking in some kind of snake tongue Cal and Jay were momentairly shocked. Both, for a brief moment, were expecting Bec to show that she had some kind of snake fangs or a forked tongue, surely nobody could make such snake-like noises without being part snake themselves. The fact Bec used her current job as a threat brought an evil smirk to Jay's face. If it did come down to having to torture this person for information (and Jay suspected it might given how much of a fight they'd put up), it looked like Bec was going to be a veritable mine of information. Jay had no qualms with using such information for the purposes on inflicting pain, she was scarily good in that particular area, she had a natural affinity for 'deliberately and methodically harming others for the puproses of extracting information' according to her Isogrii tutors. John, along with the others scrutinised the snake's reaction intently, looking for any any signs of fear in the amber eyes. There certainly was a flicker of something, though it was very hard to say what as none of them were exactly well versed in finding emotional tics and slips on a snake.

When Dexter hurled the syringe through the air Jay couldn't help but give an appreciative look over his throwing form. This was somebody who knew how to throw properly, syringes were surprisingly unaerodynamic and the fact that it went straight to Bec's hand was a testament to the photographer having gained at least one skill from his time in the military. She presumed he'd learned with knives, but had perfected it playing darts in the pub when sneaking out at night. The fact he was still alive didn't come as that great a shock to her, though it certainly did to Cal and Elliott, both of whom looked momentairly stunned. Chas had also seen Dexter's throw, having joined Kay in the doorway of the hospital room. "That they do" he agreed, a slightly throughtful edge to his tone as he took in the secne in front of him, also taking a note of the way John, Fia and Elliott had unconsciously gravitated towards each other, all mirroring each other's body language and radiating the same self-assured confidence. "And I suspect they'll keep it too, there's plenty of that drug cocktail left." He added, deciding not to make any comment on how well they'd all worked as a team, even Bec had slotted in pretty seamlessly fromw hat he could tell.

Bec nodded at Cliff's words, glad that the doctor had enough cop-on to improve on her orginal judgement call. "That makes sense, stops this one from running..... or slithering away." As she spoke she carefully removed her fingers from underneath the neck scales, causing more blood to ooze out. The colour was all too familiar to John, it was the same dark red, almost black of the blood of demons on Earth. If he was a more science minded man he might wonder if there was some kind of genetic link, but he wasn't, so instead he thought that it was a bloody good thing there wasn't more of them and that when he got back to The House, one of the many things he was going to do was see if there was any similar creatures on Earth, he had an inkling in the back of his mind that there might be such a thing, but he wanted to be sure, particularly now that he knew fire was a potential weakness. Before Cliff could continue talking Bec spoke up again, her voice slipping back to it's normal soft tones, not the rough angry/panicked ones she'd used earlier. "Before you say make an comment on the matter, yes, whoever this is will be moved off this corridor and out of the way of the eyes of the general public to somewhere secure. The real interrogation can't be done here, I both understand and respect that. This fight should never have happened in this hospital of all places. If it had gone badly we could have had a massacre, so for that it falls to me to apologise. I was thinkin about getting him transfered somewhere else or having his death faked.... again, but that's a talk for another time."
