Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

John hadn't realised just how much he'd spaced out as he was thinking. It hadn't gone unnoticed by Kay, but when there was only two of them in the room, it was far easier to spot when one had zoned out into their own thoughts. Being with the group had the advantage of being able to space out for a few minutes with a high chance of nobody noticing. He decided that the best thing to do was be honest in talking about what was on his mind. It had become a sort of thing to do, to talk about this kind of stuff before they slept. Maybe it helped, maybe it didn't, but it was straying to become a habit. "Short answer, a lot of things."

He ran a hand through his hair again out of habit more than need. "Long answer what happens after the teenagers go back to their own times or in Rinaa's case she dies, as I really don't think she has any intention of going home to her timeline. If we retain the memories of these versions then end up raising ones that are completly different. Would we be comparing the memories of these ones with the ones we actually get? And what kind of effect would this have? One thing that keeps coming to mind is Elliott and Jay, if see they Rinaa die would that turn them off having a kid for fear of the same thing happening. I'm starting to think it might be better for them if they don't remember Rinaa at all."

Kay had also realised this was becoming a habit or weird form of tradition to share each others' thoughts before going to sleep. She didn't mind though as it did mean both of them got to offload some stuff instead of bottling it all up. She liked to think it helped, even if they werent completely aware of it helping.

When he said the long answer of what was on his kind, she listened intently, taking in what he said and making sure mentally she understood what he was saying and where he was coming from. She never wanted to reply with something wrong, or at least to the best she could. As the thought and question of possibly comparing the two versions of Fia came up and whether Rinaa's death would put Elliott and Jay off having kids in the future, it got her thinking as well. "I can't say we wouldn't compare the two if she turned out differently, even if we tried our hardest to not compare, it's a natural human trait to do, even subconsciously. But I have to hope she grows up the same person, and that what we see now is what we get. But if you want to wish to have that block on her time travelling back to seeing us? I'll stand by your decision and do the same. At the moment, we don't even know if Fia has any of this sort of strategy put in place already" She began saying, "As for Elliott and Jay's situation with Rinaa? I feel only they can truly figure that out for themselves what they wish to do about things. If it does make them too scared to have a kid? Then that's something they'd have to work through, and we can only be there for them through everything, if they decide to wipe all memory of Rinaa and have a kid to try again, then we have to be there to support their decision on that as well." She explained.

John listened as Kay spoke and gave her opinions on the whole spiel he'd let out. He could see that his thoughts got Kay thinking too as she tried to understand what was going on in his head. He agreed on the fact that even if they said they wouldn't compare the versions, the absaloutly would. Even though they said they wouldn't compare Fia and Rinaa, John found himself doing it unconsciously. It was, as Kay had said, a natural human trait. To hear she'd stand by his choice and agree to have her own memories blocked was a relief in a way. It was relieving to know that he wasn't just getting crazy thoughts, that it was actually a viable outcome. But he also knew that just the two of them doing it wasn't a good enough measure. "If one of us wants a memory wipe, then we all have to get it. Let's face it nobody in our group can keep such a secret for a whole lifetime. And even then there would have to be a failsafe to make sure we wouldn't go looking for the missing memories."

He sighed slightly as he continued. "I don't think Fia has a plan to do such a thing. From the little I know, her original plan didn't even involve staying in this time as long as she is. Rinaa is the more likely one to have made such a plan. She planned coming here and doing this, she knew we'd all be here in the one place at the one time. That kid has been playing her own angle the whole time and probably since before we even met her." John knew for a fact that Rinaa knew far more than she was telling them or could tell them. She was perfectly happy to let somebody assume something as basic as her age. It was really a case of; if nobody asks, I'm not going to tell. "When she does die though, it's not going to be quietly. It's going to be traumatic and painful. We've seen what happens and it's definitely enough to put anybody off having a kid, let alone those two who are still figuring it all out."

Comparing Fia and Rinaa was one thing that Kay wasn't doing. At least to the best of her knowledge, and it was only because she was too busy focusing on keeping the unborn version of Fia safe and healthy whilst getting to know the smart young woman she grew up to be in the future. Of course there was times she did notice how Rinaa had a much bigger social life in her timeline in one way or another compared to Fia, but that was as far as her comparing went. She listened to him say that if one of them gets the wipe, then they all must and nodded. She could understand what he was meaning by saying that as well as agreeing wholeheartedly that none of their group could keep that secret for the rest of their lives.

She let him continue and never really thought about Fia having not planned to stay as long as she had. She just assumed Fia had planned this all, as Kay wasn't around when Fia asked John if she could stay for a while. She did agree though that Rinaa was holding things back from them all. She was a secretive one and that was one reason Kay still couldn't fully take to Rinaa. She understood why some things were being kept back, even Fia was holding back future related information back, but on the whole Fia was a lot more open than Rinaa was. "I agree, Rinaa has definitely been playing her own game with us all, and I get why she is because of the whole timeline stuff, but it does make it hard to take to the girl...at least...for me anyway" she openly admitted.

"As for Elliott and Jay again? I wouldn't blame them for being put off having a kid when Rinaa dies. Like I said before, if that's the case? Then all we can do is help them through that grieving process and decision as it'll be harder for them to come to terms with it especially when little Fia comes into the world." She said. She knew deep down that seeing some family get a kid when someone else is struggling to come to terms with losing their own kid would be difficult to accept. "So maybe just maybe..you're right and having their memories wiped of Rinaa would be for the best" she sighed.

John could see it in Kay's eyes that she understood what he meant about mind wiping being a one for all and all for one situation. This wasn't a situation that one person could make for all of them, they all had to agree, Cliff, Cal and Dan included in this. Knowledge of the future was dangerous and powerful in the wrong hands. John knew that none of the people in their group could really be classified as 'the wrong hands' even the ones with more questionable ones like Rinaa and Jay, as it was clear that they would do whatever was needed to protect those they loved.

He nodded and listened as Kay spoke, remembering that she hadn't been around when Fia had asked to stay in their timeline for a while. Maybe in hindsight he shouldn't have let her stay, given just how much it was complicating things, but looking at Fia in that moment he couldn't find it in himself to say no. He listened as Kay explained whey she didn't trust Rinaa and could read between the lines that this was holding her back in getting along with her. "She's a firmly shut book that one. She's taking advantage of the fact that we can't pry about certain things and that we won't pry about more emotional things in her life. She has answers to all kinds of questions. She knows when Elliott dies, and I'm damn sure she knows how all this shit on Attil goes along with how the wedding goes. But she won't say anything, and I really don't think there's a way to make her."

John was dreading when Rinaa did die. He'd seen two close calls and knew that if Rinaa went like that it would deeply affect both Jay and Elliott. He knew how Elliott would grieve, it was a mix of staying silent for hours on end and needing to have somebody to pull him out of it and distract him with something unrelated. But he had no idea how Jay would take it. Would she go into some kind of autopilot? Would she just break down? Or would she simply keep going, carrying the pain with her every day of her life as seemed to be the way with her brother. "Yeah, I know it won't be easy, even its not how Rinaa came into existance it won't stop it from being reminder. I know how Elliott grieves and that he will get over it eventually, though it could take years. But Jay? Who knows what kind of effect this loss could have on her? A mind wipe sounds like a harsh way of doing it, but I fear it's the only option."

"she's definitely using our abilities of knowing when to not pry on matters to her full advantage. That much is most definitely true" Kay agreed after hearing what he had to say about Rinaa. She didn't put it passed the girl to know exactly how things will go on every single situation they got coming up either. "I really do think she won't ever tell any of us and I've come to accept that as difficult as it is to do" she added.

She listened to what he had to say on the whole day Rinaa dies side of things nodding. She really hoped because of Fia she wouldn't be putting more emotional pain onto Elliott and Jay but she knew even if it did happen, there was nothing they could do about it. It's not like getting rid of Fia was an option to her. She couldn't do that to a kid, no matter the age. "This is why I think a mind wipe is the only way as well. It's emotionally the better thing to do for everyone." She replied, shuffling in bed as she felt her back starting to ache, but costing up to John in the process. "We'll have to talk to everyone after the wedding about this, get everyone's opinion on it" she added.

"It's a smart tactic, sure it's kinda insulting to be manipulated in such an obvious way, but it's smart none the less." John told Kay, he'd suspected for a while that that was what Rinaa had doing had being doing since they'd met. But strangely he didn't doubt that she'd come here to meet Elliott. There was truth in wanting to meet the father she'd never known before she died, but Rinaa was logical enough to enough keep these emotional urges under control most of the time. "Yeah, I've accepted that, I may not like it or understand it, but I've accepted it." He didn't say it but John really hoped Rinaa knew what she was doing.

John moved himself from the sitting position, to one where he was lying half on his side, half on his back. "Yeah, I agree on both points. We really shouldn't pollute the wedding with this. I still feel like we're kinda crashing it given that it was all planned before Elliott an' then us came along and screwed it up." Cal hadn't mentioned the wedding to Elliott when they first met, there were other things to talk about, and Elliott hadn't noticed the ring on his sisters finger. If it had come to it, John suspected that John would have seriously considered moving the wedding because of her brother. John was weirdly grateful that Cliff had been so adamant that nobody and nothing was causing her to move her wedding. "But yeah, it's for another day, when the teenagers are away."

Kay couldn't deny that it was a smart tactic, and if they were all brutally honest with themselves, they would have done the same thing in Rinaa's position. Hearing that John had come to accept the decision of Rinaa's actions was a relief to her, knowing she wasn't the only one choosing to accept the difficult truth. He wasn't the only one hoping Rinaa knew what she was doing and that she was doing the right thing.

As he laid down, she cosied up a bit more and listened to him agreeing on not polluting the wedding with these thoughts they were having. It wasn't fair on Cal or Cliff to do such a thing, as if was bad enough they had ended up being involved in their big day as it was. She nodded when he said it was for when the teenagers were away, "agreed" she replied with a yawn. "For now, make the most of the upcoming happier moments" she added.

"True, true. And Elliott in a dress, which I believe Jay chose for the occassion. I intend to take as many photos as possible." John smirked. He had no qualms with taking total advantage of the situation. He had to confess to being interested in what exactly Jay had declared would suit him. It was one memory he was absaloutly not going to have wiped. He made himself comfortable in the bed and for once fell asleep relatively quickly. The exact moment he fell asleep wasn't noticeable, it was as if he went out like a light, his head falling to one side and his eyes closing before he even had a chance to wish Kay good night.

As usual Rinaa didn't return to the apartment until the early hours of the morning. She entered quietly having long since mastered the art of silently opening the apartment door. She cast an eye over to the couch as she entered. There was no sign of Chas so she guessed he was in the forge. Elliott was asleep, as was Jay. The former had an arm tightly around the later, whose head was firmly curled up against his shoulder. She stood in the semi gloom taking in the sight with sad eyes. It was peaceful and it was clear from their unconscious forms how comfortable they were around each other when nobody was actually watching. "When things change, I hope you two keep this and stay like this. Even if you are idiots sometimes, it's so damn obvious how much you care, so don't lose it yeah?" She spoke quietly then shook her head before floppong onto the armchair to sleep.

"definitely, that is a sight I think we all need to witness" she chuckled, feeling him getting comfortable. Kay wasn't even sure when he fell asleep, it was just one moment he was awake, the next he was out. She smiled lovingly at the realisation, kissed his forehead and closes her eyes. "Sleep well doll" she whispered sweetly before falling asleep herself. For once she didn't have a strange dream that made her speak the old dead language of her kind or anything else of similar reactions. She just slept soundly against him, barely even moving for most of the time.

Fia had fallen asleep pretty much the moment she hit the pillow when she went to bed so she wasn't even aware of her parents having been awake for a while talking about her or Rinaa and the consequences of everything happening. She had a dream of her going for a run with the secret pet dog of hers, making her smile in her sleep.

-----

When morning came round, Kay instinctively woke up early with her back initially to John, and found herself rubbing her face to wake up. With a groan she turned over to face him and slowly opened one eye at a time to see if he was awake as well. She wondered why it always felt like the morning came round way too quickly, and she could easily sleep in but she knew she couldn't.

John's night wasn't dreamless, he was dreaming, but of what, he couldn't tell. It was like chasing wisps of something. The setting was a sort of inky void and the things he was chasing were like the tendrils of smoke that coiled off upwards of his cigarette. Elusive yet dangerous. As soon as he got too close, it just seemed to vanish away into nothing. It was important, whatever he was chasing, but for the life of him he couldn't remember what. He didn't speak a word in his sleep nor did he budge from his position that night, the sleep paralysis holding him firm. And when he did indeed open his eyes the next morning, he remembered nothing of the dreams he'd had.

John woke only a few minutes after Kay, considered checking his phone for the time, then didn't bother. One of the owners of the apartment would surely come and tell at them if they were running too late. He could hear the low sounds of talking through the wal. He couldn't make out the voices, but they seemed to all be female, bar one. Elliott, Rinaa, Jay, Cal and Cliff was his guess. It seemed like Dan and Chas weren't there yet, but he wasn't sure, they could be eating. He heard laughter through the walls and knew the morning was off to a good start for them. He felt Kay stir beside him. "Mornin'." He said, moving to a more comfortable position in the bed.

It took a little while before the sounds of talking and laughter actually registered in Kay's mind. When she did register it, she realised most of the household were already up and awake. "Morning" she said in a sleepy tone back at him, taking note that John was actually awake. She nuzzled her head into the pillow beside him, as she tried to properly wake up. "I am so not ready to be awake right now" she half chuckled with a sleepy smile.

Fia by sheer luck actually woke up early this morning. She put it down to having fell asleep so quickly and easily the night before when usually she could be up for a little while thinking about all kinds of things. She was a little sleepy but felt more awake than tired. She was impressed with herself that she didn't need her parents or anyone else to wake her up. Sitting up in bed, she stretched her arms up high above her head, fingers linked together and yawned. She stretched her legs before getting out of bed and shoving on some clean jeans. Shoving the pair she wore the day before in her bag in the process, along with anything else she had out. She too heard the chatter and laughter and figured everyone but her was out there, not realising that John and Kay were still in bed themselves.

John rolled his eyes at Kay's 'protest' of not being mentally and physically able to deal with being awake at that moment in time. Kay wasn't a morning person, he knew that much by now, just as she knew that he had no real preference. It all depended on what he'd been doing the day before and how well he managed to sleep that night. He could get up when needed and if woken suddenly in the middle of the night by Elliot screaming with nightmares or somebody attempting to banf the door down, he was out of his slumber like a shot, perfectly awake and ready to take on whatever the world was going to throw at him. "Well you don't really get a choice in that matter."

He stretched his arms out, cracking his knuckles at the same time, then cast a glance at the corner of the room he'd taken over with his belongings. There wasn't much, Chas had packed light and efficiently. The things he'd bought shopping on Attil were stowed neatly (by John's standards) to one side. "The others are up, by the sound of it Chas and Dan aren't there yet and neither if Fia, but I'm not 100%." He gave another look at the pile in the corner. "I should probably pack for this trip." He explained as he unwound the bedcovers from around his feet and. John ran a hand through his hair, then slipped out of the warmth of the bed. The room lacked the heat created by two people spending hours in close proximity and he could feel the hairs on his body standing on end.

Hearing him say she didn't have a choice in the matter, she knew he was right. "I know, I know" she replied simply, as he stretched. She slowly began to sit up slightly as she noticed him glancing at his pile in the corner of the room, which made her glance at her own things. She had very little like the rest of them, and everything was neatly already in her backpack or shopping bags, except for her clothing that she stripped herself of last night to get to sleep.

"Thought I heard chatter and laughter, and okay. Guess I should get my arse out of bed myself" she replied, watching him climb out of bed, instantly feeling the temperature difference from not having him beside her. She pouted slightly at because of it but sat up properly and pulled the covers back to get out of bed. With a sigh, she pushed herself up and off the bed. She got up and pulled out her baggy ripped jeans and hoodie she had bought days ago and pulled them on, before packing away her other clothes.

Fia was done with everything she needed to have packed, and grabbed her stuff exiting the bedroom. She walked into the living room, putting her bags down by the couch for the time being. "Morning guys" she greeted.

John got himself dressed, deciding that yes, he could get another day out of the trousers he was wearing. A full day of travelling was no doubt going to render it unusable. Cliff had briefly described the journey. They'd be leaving Attil on one ship and flying to one of the space gates where long distance teleportation was possible (Cliff had checked and it was perfectly safe for a pregnant person to pass through) from there it was another ship, preferably one with capabilities to land on water. If she couldn't get an aqua-ship then they'd have to settle for an extra boat ride. All in all, about a day's worth of travel, factoring in things like stopping for food an unexpected delays. John's packing didn't take long and he slung the bag over one shoulder.

The others looked up as Fia arrived. For once they weren't sitting down, instead leaning over various chairs or against the walls. Cal, Cliff and Jay had forgone the morning run. Cal was washing up the dishes from their breakfast. By the coffee table was a pile of various bags and two armour boxes (one that was recognisable as the one Rinaa came back with and the other was one Jay had retrieved from her own locker). The two guitars were also there. The five had been talking in Attili for no other reason than everybody in the room was fluent in the language. Cliff had been regaling some tale or another when Fia entered. She nodded in acknowledgement before finishing the story. There was laughter and then the group switched back to English. "Chas and Dan are up, but not here yet. They're at the forge, just getting the last few things together."

Kay manages to squeeze her bag of shopping into her backpack to condense everything down. It was just the bag with her dress and sandals for the wedding that remained in a separate dress bag. She didn't want to crease the fabric too much so she kept it separate. When John was done packing as well, she put her bag on her shoulders, realising how much heavier her bag was now there was so more in it compared to when they left Earth. She found herself having to adjust the straps so it didn't pull on her. She held the other dress bag in her hand. "Guess we should show our faces" she said, walking over to get a quick kiss in before they left the room.

As Fia walked in she recognised them all talking in Attili and thought nothing of it as it was bound to happen several times when herself or Kay weren't around. Seeing where the other bags were, she brought hers over so they were all in phone place. She looked up at Elliott when he said where Chas and Dan were, nodding in response. "Cool, I think I heard mum and dad awake in the other room as I passed it so they should be out soon" she replied back. She was tempted as she walked through the corridor to have knocked on John and Kay's door and fake the whole parental role on them, but she decided against it as quickly as the thought came to her mind.

John packed some of his shopping in the bag, but he prefered not to wrinkle or crumple the papyrus or risk something accidentaly smashing the ink bottles, so he left those carefully (out of reach of sunlight) in the room. They would be coming back to the apartment after all. The other bits he had bought he planned to put somewhere in The House. Cliff had said it outright that extra accommodation The House provided would only be used for their group. All the other guests had made suitable arrangements a long time ago (also known as agreeing to sleep in their ships Cliff had explained with a smirk). "Yeah, we should, before somebody is sent to yell at us to move our lazy asses out of bed, though knowing this group they wouldn't be anywhere near that polite." John smirked.

Cliff nodded at what Fia told her, they still had plenty of time. Cal put the last plate to the side and pointed one wet hand at Rinaa. "You, teenager that isn't a teenager, you're on drying duty." "That's a terrible nickname." Rinaa groaned at the nickname as opposed to being lumped with the household chores. "Well what would you rather be called? Considering your real name is out of the question." Cal leaned against the wall, drying her hands. "Considering Artemis Taylor is my assumed name here, and the name Moya knows me by, I think that'll do. Though people tend to abbreviate it to Tem." "What people?" "My friends and pilots from my time, it's basically the only name I'm called in the lab."

The only things that Kay left were her paints and the more bulkier art supplies. Otherwise she packed her sketchbook and some basic pencils just in case. It was an artist's habit and she would never ever change it. She knew they'd be coming back to the apartment for Elliott's trial so she did only pack what she truly needed. Yet because of her bag not being biggest (but not exactly small either), it looked like she packed alot more than she did. Not only that her bag was years old and it was a miracle it was even together. "Oh no doubt and I could easily see Fia just jumping at the chance to chase us up" she smirked.

Fia leaned against the back of the couch, as Cal called Rinaa the long and terrible nickname. It made her wonder what nickname she would eventually come out with for her and if it would be the same as the one she was known by in the future. Everyone always called her firecracker in her time, because of her spritely and prankster attitude and her hair. It was one she didn't actually mind too much surprisingly when everyone at first thought she'd be utterly against it. She listened to the conversation going on about what Rinaa's nickname should be and just smirked at the whole thing. She personally wouldn't stop calling her Rii as it just kinda seemed right to her.

John nodded in agreement. "I think she'd take far too much enjoyment out of doing that. Elliott would definitely enjoy it too, he'd have some smart arse comment to make." John, despite his complaining enjoyed Elliott's smart arse nature and was proud of the fact that he Coul d think of insults on his feet. (Not something a conventional parent would be proud of, he knew. But he and Elliott were far from a typical parent-child duo). He grabbed his phone from the table, stuffing it into his pocket, before scanning the room for anything either of them could have missed. Seeing nothing he turned to Kay. "Ready to go then?"

Rinaa grabbed the towel from the bar and began to dry the plates and glasses, adopting a comfortable position against the countertop. She'd done this before and knew the system Cal and Cliff kept, which was why Cal had asked her to do it not Fia. "Which reminds me, how's your girlfriend getting to the wedding?" Cliff asked. She smirked as Rinaa rolled her eyes in reaction to Cliff calling Moya her girlfriend. "She's not my girlfriend. I'm good, but not that good." Rinaa explained, carefully drying the inside of a mug (one she accidently broke in the future). That thought made her smile. "She's not coming with us today, too short notice. She's putting together an outfit for the day and will be coming over the day before the wedding. I've given her all the details for both how to get to the planet and how to get the right place. Though I'll probably go pick her up."

Kay could definitely see Elliott enjoying making some smart ass remark about the two of them as well, especially after he did that one particular evening. She didn't need to understand anything he said to know it was a smartass remark, she just went by John's reaction. "Oh for sure" she replied, grabbing her own phone and shoving it in her jeans pocket, then grabbing her jacket, even though she didn't need it just yet. "Yeah I'm good" she said, walking to the bedroom door and opening it, before walking out into the main room. "Morning" she greeted everyone with a smile.

Fia smirked when Cliff called Moya Rinaa's girlfriend, and how Rinaa reacted to it. She listened to what Rinaa explained about how Moya was getting to the wedding, finding that made sense as it was very last minute that she got asked. She turned her head round when she heard Kay and John leave the bedroom and Kay greeted them. "Morning mum" Fia replied back, taking the dress bag from her to lay over the back of the ouch next to her. In her mind Kay shouldn't be carrying so much but then she was biased because it was a version of her Kay was carrying inside her.

John walked out after Kay, adding his bag next to the ever growing pile of bags. He recognised his guitar amongst the pile along with the large sports gear bag Elliott generally used to carry weapons or magical artifacts around in. He caught the tail end of the conversation, understanding enough of it to know Cliff and Rinaa were talking about the mystery girl Moya. He rolled his eyes when Rinaa said she wasn't her girlfriend, judging by how fast things were going, he fully expected them to be at the least a couple by the end of this, if not there would be a double wedding celebration for them to attend. "Chas and Dan are coming too, they'll be along in a few. They're getting armour boxes or something like that." Elliott told John.

"Thats exactly what they are getting, the two suits Cal made, the ones you guys saw being made the other day." Cliff referred to the day where Cal had also showed off her fast method of making jewellery. They were off course the bespoke wedding armour that Cal had spent months working on, refining the fit, the embellishments, trying to get them as close as perfect for their special days. The sound of a key scraping in the door followed by a shoulder bashing against the frame in order to actually open the door cut that conversation short. It was Deke, despite having a genius level intellect he just couldn't cope with the door of Cal's apartment. His arm and neck gills ruffled as he entered, a shoebox under his arm. "Here's hopefully enough hearing aids for one wedding trip" He told Cliff in Attili, passing her the box. She opened the box, to confirm that it was indeed hearing aids and not some kind of gag gift. "And how waterproof are they?" Deke had the decency to look sheepish which made Cliff sigh slightly. "I'll take that as a not at all then."

Kay stood between John and Fia as it's just how it happened from the way they both entered the room and Fia already leaning against the couch. Fia nodded remembering the suits of armour that she was shown the other day. She glanced toward the door when the sound of a scraping key was heard, as did Kay look across. When Deke came in, both girls were baffled how someone so smart couldn't figure out Cal's door but neither said anything.

Neither girl knew what was being said but the fact he went over to and spoke with Cliff, they both guessed it was about her hearing aids. Seeing him go sheepish made Fia smirk, as Cliff clearly said something worthy of such a reaction. Other than that they didn't pay too much attention to what was going on between Cliff and Deke. "Hey, is there anything left to eat? Even if it's just toast or something? I'm starving" Fia spoke up to anyone else who would listen. With her, Kay and John having got up after the rest of them, they hadn't eaten and Fia was now feeling it.

John understood enough Attili and had heard Cliff reference the fact that she could never get Deke to successfully make waterproof hearing aids enough that he knew what was going on. Cliff rooted through the contents of the box all neatly arranged. When Fia asked about food Cal nodded. "We got plenty of stuff, just help yourself to whatever, you know where it all is by now. Though I wouldn't recommend completly stuffing yourself, teleportation is generally better in an empty stomach." Teleportation side effects were rare, and when they did manifest they usually involved vomiting. And besides once they got to the other side, chances were they'd all want to eat something anyway.

"That should be enough for the trip, but given your siblings I doubt it will be." Deke told Cliff as she counted the hearing aids."The thought is appreciated though, this better not be my wedding present though." He laughed, shaking his wild mop of Einstein like hair. "No, it isn't, don't worry. I have the perfect gift for you two." He gave a Cheshire cat grin and Cal shook her head. "A word of warning to the wise, you see that window?" She gestured at the large window to her left, Deke nodded, not quite sure where this was going. "If you get us a kettle, I will personally throw you out of it." Rinaa laughed at that, trying and failing to disguise it. Deke rolled his eyes and chucked a pencil at Rinaa's head, hitting her square on the side. "Don't worry, I have more imagination than that."

Fia nodded when Cal said they had enough stuff that she could help herself. She didn't intend to absolutely stuff her face, she just wanted something to take the edge off so she wouldn't be hearing her stomach growling like an animal. "Cheers" she replied, walking into the kitchen and just making some toast. "Fia put one slice in for me will ya baby girl?" Kay asked, and Fia gave her the thumbs up, smiling at her mother calling her such a thing, having not heard it for years. She waited for the toast to do, just buttering both slices, before washing up the knife after herself. She left it in the 'to dry' pile for Rinaa to do, carrying Kay's slice in her hand and hers in her mouth.

Kay didn't pay attention to what was going on between Deke, Cal and Cliff until Rinaa burst into laughter, failing to hide her amusement, now curious to what was so funny. She could kind of guess as Cal pointed to the window but only vaguely. When Fia walked over, Kay smirked at the way she held her toast in her mouth, before taking her own slice from her kid. She ate the slice happily, glad that so far she was doing the usual dash to the bathroom.

John smirked at the threat and devilish grin that appeared on Deke's face. He wouldn't be surprised if somebody had taken advantage of the loop hole of not buying them a kettle, but multiple. "I somehow doubt that statement" Rinaa smirked, drying up the knife Fia had left on the draining board. "Cheeky" Deke smiled, ducking as the pencil came whizzing past him, narrowly missing his ear. Jay reached out a hand and caught it in midair, twirled it around her fingers and tossed it back the the mad scientist who wasn't phased in the slightest by the action. It was only as he followed the flight of the pencil that John noticed Elliott had had his arm around Jay, his hand resting on her shoulder as they leaned against the wall. It looked right somehow.

"You'll have to do better than that to get me y'know." "I will get you, one day." Rinaa said the words with a light smile, not her usual sadness when she thought of things like the future. She liked Deke, he'd been the crazy uncle in her life and he had no problems with having such a young child in a lab full of dangerous machines. "I' don't doubt it. And I'm holding you to that." Deke gestured with the pencil to articulate his point. The mad scientist glanced at his watch."I'll be off then, I'll look after the apartment for you two yeah?" The two women nodded, they'd let him flat watch before, and they'd done the same for his place. (Which he was rarely in, it seemed he spent his whole life in the lab). He waleked towards the door as the others said their goodbyes, then as if remembering something, he turned back, towards Jay and Elliott. "She's an amazing kid, with a good heart in there. What she does, she doesn't neccesaily do for herself, but she puts her all to it. Remember that." On that note, he left, succeeding in opening the door from the inside without a problem.
