I too, solemnly vow the same thing he did.

And also aplogize for bum rushing in a pair of Char Sheets. Just.. uh... thought it'd make me more appealing as a player...

Cus these folks had already posted Character Sheets.... And I didn't wanna look less interested. xD

Yeah it's not as if I have any authority here, just saying not to overwhelm the poor guy and freak him out is all;)

@SephirothSage your Kitsune has Insight Rank 2, which is very nice. Also, Infamy seems like an... interesting choice for a courtier of any kind.

I too have no intentions of breaking anything, and will be happy to help with anything I can. I posted a sheet because stats I wanted to know what the chargen process was like, and what kind of things a starting character can accomplish. I can try toning down my enthusiasm if it's too much :)

I'm not sure she /does/ have insight rank 2. I uhh.. kinda lost her Character Manager file, going to have to re-input things.

She does. You add your Rings (4+2+2+2+2) times 20, plus the sum of your Skills (2+1+2+1+2+2+1+1+1+2) = 140+15 = 155. Although I think your Character Manager may not have taken into account that you can't get more than 10 points from Disadvantages.

Gaiin magic operates on completely different principles from Rokugani magic; it's more similar to D&D-style wizard casting (albeit based off talismans) rather than communing with the kami to do what you want.

And Maho is a gross sin and there is pretty much no circumstance ever where its use is sanctioned. That said, the Phoenix Clan used to practice the original, uncorrupted blood magic at the dawn of the Empire, and it was precisely because Isawa (first Phoenix Thunder) was such a peerless exponent of blood magic that he was tapped to imprison Fu Leng in the Black Scrolls after he was sufficiently weakened. Thing is, Fu Leng was channelling the full power of Jigoku, and this power spilled over to the blood magic that bound him; now, every single invocation of blood magic is corrupted by the influence of Jigoku and Fu Leng.

Shugenja trying to explore a way to use an uncorrupted version of blood magic frequently find a squad of grim-faced Kuni Witch Hunters kicking down their door and Jade Striking first, asking questions never.

You multiply rings by 10 to determine Insight Rank. So ( 4+8 )x10 = 120, +15 from skills = 135. So you're IR 1.

A higher Insight Rank isn't something you should relentlessly gun for. The Insight system rewards roundedness and advancing your rings instead of monomaniacally maxing a trait.

Or you could be an Utaku Battle Maiden and have your Bad Horse trample people while pewing them with arrows from far, far away.

Right. I was being an idiot, sorry.

You're learning - and fast. :P

Incidentally, you might want to look at Togashi monks, if you felt like twinking for close combat power. Hands of Stone + Togashi Rank 2 + Jiujutsu mastery bonuses mean you can keep around 4 dice for damage with your bare hands. That's better than most lance charges. And you get Togashi tattoos (one of them is literally "sprint across the entire Empire in a day") and kiho on top of that.

I went for a duelist because I don't feel like twinking (much). ;)

Tattoos are nice, with Fire, Hands of Stone, Jiututsu 3 and Togashi 2, you'd have 5k4 plus strength.

I went for a Void Shugenja because screw this, void points.
Have fun with it, I ultimately decided against it. Partly because I couldn't settle on an element to have an Affinity to.

You should always be a Fire Tensai. Because burn, baby, burn (disco infernooooo)!

In fact I will make a Fire Tensai tonight. Or hm, an Air Tensai.

My concept was intrinsically generalist. But I was tempted to make a Fire Tensai.

On a completely different note, I just noticed that arrows are outrageously expensive. 1 bu for the basic kind, up to 5 bu for a Flesh Cutter or Humming Bulb. That's 60 arrows compared to enough rice to feed a man for a year... Seriously.

That's Rokugan for you. Thing is, as a samurai, you have an expense account billable to your daimyo, who takes All The Rice and gives out All The Beheadings. So this really shouldn't be a problem.

Unless you fuck up. Then it's seppuku time for you!

xD .

Don't- just.. don't even look at the Katana forging times, and then /really/ don't try to compare them to how /every bushi has one./

Well, you're playing the game for samurai fantasy action, not Tales of the Economic Empire. Also , they probably believe in handmaking everything.

Well yes- you /have/ to handmake a Katana. In fact, their all master craftsmanship grade blades, in some rule settings.

That said- the number of master craftsmen necessary to supply an empire of this size with Katana is.. immense.

Oh, and it takes one entire fucking day to make one sorry little arrow. Seriously.
I've always houseruled that the arrow price/time is for a dozen, and I would strongly encourage our GM to do the same. His choice though
