In Case Of Apocalypse (Adorasaurus, DeathlyLivings) [Inactive]

"I hope so. I know this wasn't the only hidden shelter around here. We should go check the other ones. What street is this?" Yui asked, glancing around her looking for a street sign.

She walked a little further down the road, her heavy boots crunching on the broken glass all over the pavement.

"If this is the road I think it is, then there's a shelter about half a mile down there" she said, pointing Northwards down the street.

"I know people. A few of us weren't so sure of our standing in the war. It didn't seem stable. So we made a plan of action, located all the habitable shelters in the area. There's one underneath the library" she replied, pointing back down the road again. "We should head there and check for others. If not, pick up some provisions. No point carrying it with us, though. It'll weigh us down."

She looked at Darren.

"We're in this together, okay? I'll have your back if you have mine. Are you in?" she asked, holding out a leather clad hand in alliance.

He nodded, then clamped his hand around hers and shook it firmly, "I meant how can you smell all that? I mean I can smell the decay slightly, but Uranium?"

Yui froze, her eyes suddenly reverting back to their feline state.

Her left ear twitched, pushing her hood in an obvious manner.

"W-well--" she said just before her right ear twitched, visibly pushing her hood.

Her pupils dilated slightly, becoming obvious.

"That's my er-- well--" she pulled her hands back and flattened her ears against her head, making her tail twitch forward and slightly out from between her legs. "--it's nothing."

She stared at Darren, unblinking.

Yui stepped backwards, her hands on her hood.

"Fine. If we're going to be in a partnership, we need to trust eachother. No secrets, right?" she asked, finally blinking, her hands still on the hood.

Yui shrugged her heavy trenchcoat onto the floor, pulling her hood with it.

Two black cats ears popped up from her silver hair and a sleek, black tail flicked out from behind her.

She looked at Darren and smiled widely, showing off her feline canines.

Darren stepped back slightly, however if he were frightened it wasn't clearly visible. He coughed, "Fair enough...I suppose I should return the favour."

Darren lifted a gloved right hand and removed it, showing a charred remnant of a hand, cracked and unsalvageable. "I suppose we have something in common."

Yui picked up her trenchcoat, tucking the hood inside it as she put it back on, letting her ears stay out.

She walked closer to Darren.

"What happened?" she asked, her pupils dilating with morbid interest.

"I have no idea." He slipped the glove back on. "I can't remember anything bar from a month ago, what about you, why are you part cat?"

Yui shrugged.

"I was born this way" she said. "I was the subject of a series of tests regarding splicing human and animal DNA to create a super-human. Me and my two sisters were the first of our kind. Their bodies weren't strong enough, though. They died when I was young. My parents were very supportive of my nature, but I left as soon as I reached my legal independence age, 3 years ago."

Yui smiled.

"My physique and biological abilites are slightly different to those of a Human, though" she giggled.

"We need to head to the Library, okay?" she said, walking Northwards down the street. "I've got your back man, try to stay quiet though."

Yui instructed to keep to the edges of the street, as to avoid being targeted by any other survivors.

The hot, dusty air moved around her, the humidity causing the masses of dead bodies to rot faster.

The smell became stronger as they walked towards the library.

Every now and again the strange crunch of bones or squelch of decaying limbs passed them, their heavy boots crushing the litter beneath them.

"We're coming up close, I can smell the library" Yui said, her ears twitching this way and that, her tail flicking around her legs.

Yui nodded.

"You have a fair point."

She slowed down slightly, looking around her, checking for others.

"I can't see anyone.." she mumbled.

"Good." He walked ahead a few paces, checking alleyways with the muzzle of his gun before following suit himself. "These people of yours, are they anything special?"

Yui shrugged.

"Maybe. We didn't take the chance to get to know each other. They know about my ears and such, they gave me the cape to cover it all up and stuff, y'know?" she replied, looking around her carefully.

She heard a rustle from a ravaged building.

Yui turned slowly, casting a look at Darren to be silent.

Her ears moved and her tail twitched this way and that.

Yui's ear twitched as he spoke.

"There's something in that building, it might be a survivor, but I'm not sure."

She sniffed at the air.

"We should call them out, it's safer that way" she whispered, sparing a glance at Darren.

The rustling promptly stopped, causing Yui's ears to twitch.

She heard a quiet noise behind her, making her turn quickly.

"Darren--" she said abruptly, her tail twitching fiercely. "--go in and find the source of the rustling, I'm going to find out what's over here."

Yui growled, bowing her body into a more agile, streamlined shape.

"I have a pretty good idea of what's in there" she added, walking to the source of the noise from behind her.
