In Case Of Apocalypse (Adorasaurus, DeathlyLivings) [Inactive]

The lock clicked as the door opened, "Boom! That's what I'm talking about." Darren picked up a crowbar and started to open all the over lockers.

Yui smiled slightly, watching as the doors opened.

There was cases of ammunition and racks of different guns of all types. There was little compartments with blades and explosives.

"This is fantastic. Looks like we picked the right shelter!" Yui said, as she picked up various weapons and held them to look them over.

"Darren, do you think you could get into the last locker? The safety locker?"

A heavy sack fell from the locker and landed on the floor with a thump. A strong smell began to emanate from the bag and it oozed a sickly liquid onto the concrete floor.

Yui sniffed, her nose wrinkling slightly.

"There's dead things in there" she said.

Zoey sat up, throwing her hand dramatically over her mouth and nose.

"That's so gross! Get it out of here, ugh!" she grimaced, gagging loudly.

Zoey scrambled to get away from him, slipping on blood as she hurried away. She fell into the store room and crashed into one of the shelving units, knocking it over. Before it landed on her, it hit the wall and stopped, the items instead falling onto her.

Yui ran to the box and opened it for Darren, holding it whilst he came over.

Yui closed the box, placing a nearby empty supply unit on top of it to keep it in place.

Her nose twitched.

She could smell the rodents again.

She cocked her head and made a 'nya~' sound.

As soon as she realized what she'd done, she clamped a hand over her mouth and slapped herself with the other one.

/No Yui! Not again./ she said to herself.

She walked back to the storeroom to help Darren and Zoey.

"Are you okay Zoey?" she asked, helping her crawl out from the cluttered mess as Darren sorted out the shelf.

Zoey nodded, brushing crumbs and dust from her clothes.

"I'm fine, thank you" she said, running her fingers through her blonde hair. "Ugh, is there a shower in here? I really need to wash. This place is gross."

Yui folded her arms.

"Of course there's no running water. And yes, we used the last of it this morning when we were rationing out drinks" she said, nodding to an empty jug laying on its side by on of the beds.

The empty smell of copper and warm water had started to make its way around the room, ever so slightly.

Unnoticeable to most, but easily detected by a half-cat.

Yui's pupils dilated instantly. She tried hard not to let her ears prick up.

"Hunt?" she said, savouring the word on her tongue like a hard-boiled sweet.

Zoey grimaced.

"Arm ourselves? Like, with weapons and stuff? I don't know how to do that." she moaned, clutching Darren's robe-clad arm.

Yui nodded.

"I won't be needing a weapon from the store" she commented. "I carry my own, for reasons."

Zoey held out her hand.

"Give me a weapon then" she demanded.

Darren picked up a hefty assault rifle and dropped it into her hands. Then picked up a shotgun, pumped it, then turned to face them both.

Zoey's legs buckled under the sudden weight of the gun.

"W-whoa there! This is huge! And heavy! You can't expect someone like me to use this, do you?!" she exclaimed rather angrily, throwing the gun to the floor and folding her arms.

Yui sighed impatiently.

"Look here, rich girl. I don't care who you are or how rich your daddy is. We have a serious problem on our hands and we need to be smart, agile and fierce if we're going to survive out there. You have two choices. You either grow up and get on with it, or you sit here with the dead rats and rot along with them. Your choice. I'd pick quickly if I was you, Humans like you can only survive a few days without water."

Yui turned on her heels and walked up the concrete steps to the heavy duty iron door to the shelter to wait for Darren.

Darren walked after Yui, picking the gun up with one hand and slinging it over his shoulder. His expression as if he were pondering something. "What do you mean, 'Humans like you...?'"

Zoey stomped her foot on the ground and folded her arms.

"Screw you guys. I'm going to sit here until you learn some respect and come apologize. I'd do it fast if I were you, my forgiving window is closing" she said, sitting down on one of the beds and pouting.

Yui's ears pricked up as she hears Darren's question.

"I- I mean those stupid rich girls who think they run the place. Can't go without water to wash their precious locks and such" Yui stuttered, waving her hand towards Darren, signalling it was nothing. "You ready?" she asked as he reached the door.

"I'm ready..." He turned to Zoey, "...Have fun with the corpses, let's hope they don't come alive and eat you." He laughed as he cranked the wheel round and pulled the door wide open. "Ladies first..."

Zoey's eyes widened a little, her eyes flicking momentarily to the freezer.

"Shut up, idiot" she said, making a 'hmph' noise at the end.

Yui turned to Zoey, too.

"Try not to get yourself killed if you leave the bunker."

As Darren pulled the door open, the thick musk of settled dust and heat swept into the doorway. Yui sniffed at the air, her ears involuntarily pricking up, listening for any sounds. As her eyes quickly adjusted to the light that had flooded the bunker, she took a step outside for the first time, feeling the eerily calm air around her nape.

She walked further out, slowly climbing up the steps into a scene she'd not soon forget.

"Damn, this place needs a good clean." Darren covered his eyes with a gloved hand. "Doesn't look too bad, can you see anything, or anyone?"

Yui's ears twitched, her hood twitching with them.

She sniffed again.

"I smell a lot of decay but no life, I can't hear anyone. Let's climb up further, get to the street at least."

She walked slowly up the rest of the steps, cautious.

She reached the street, stopping in her tracks.

"Oh my god" she hissed, staring around her as the masses of corpses littering the gory concrete.

She motioned for Darren to come up.

An eerie silence had fallen over the city.

"They're everywhere" she said, folding her arms, her ears twitching again.

Darren sighed, "Nothing to be unexpected." He lumbered up next to her and hefted the shotgun in one hand. Trying to put a hand on her shoulder in a comforting manner he continued, "Don't worry, you'll soon get used to it."

Yui patted his hand and walked a little further forward, sniffing in the direction of a particularly gory scene.

"Do you smell that too? It smells like uranium. Nuclear fallout. They dropped a nuke here..." Yui said, trailing off at the sudden realization.

She turned to face Darren, her pupils narrowing as much as possible without reverting to their natural feline state and stated 3 simple words.

"Everyone is dead."

"More provisions for us." He looked around at the mess of metal, bodies and glass. "Although, maybe there are more like us, hiding in seclusion until it's safe, like Fallout."
