Ara?

The weight of her stole, her dynamic vision, the path of the wind all was felt as if they were a pea and she was but a delicate princess with seven mattresses between them.

Needless to say, Mei slapped away the sword that flew toward the duo like it was a price tag.

While her hand stayed safe the blade did cut into part of her stole due to the angle and velocity. Best not to try and block an actual attack since anything she couldn’t fully bat away like a free sample could press into her instead. Once they became like Chel such wounds wouldn’t be much of an issue but…Mei glanced over at Black Gabumon. Wounds could be healed but baldness would be forever or like ugly bangs would suck too but Mei could preserve through such struggles like she had in the past.

Kotemon seemed to be doing their best but it was such a sorry little thing their best was in this situation. Fire seemed to be a poor choice thing time around it seemed since Gladimon hadn’t popped like a popcorn kernel.

The Spin to win move was nothing new so there should be few surprises from Gladimon. All the pair would need to do is stay away and chip away like last time.

Black Ice,” Black Gabumon said causing ice to form below them. Mei gently nudged Black Gabumon to get them sliding away while she hustled to pick up the sword she slapped aside as the icicle trail grew.

Blue Flame,” Black Gabumon followed letting out a weak stream of fire beginning to run out of gas but their energy should be enough to melt enough of the ice they conjured to reduce visibility even if by a little bit. Given Gladimon’s steadfast focus the little bit left in front of Mei wouldn’t freeze him for very long if he touched it but Mei had a different idea in mind.

Looking for the best angle she wedged the twice stolen blade so it rested between two icicles with the hilt at an angle to dig into the ground to impale him if she predicted the single-minded path Gladimon would take. If he wanted to charge at her like some wild boar, he would simply be put down like one.

“Ohoho,” Mei taunted tall enough to be seen over the little bit of cover trusting that she wouldn’t need to lie about the sword ripping her clothes and being immodest since by now her sheer presence seemed enough to make him rage. If her newest ploy failed, Mei would simply dodge the best she could and cash in the next opportunity.

“PANZER KNUCKLE!”

Tentomon braced herself, crossing her claws and taking the majority of the hit head-on. The force of the strike sent shockwaves through her tiny frame as she slid back, her claws sparking against the ground. She collapsed moments later.

The devastating blow collided with BushiAgumon, sending him flying through the air like a smoldering comet. He crashed into the dirt, a smoking heap, and lay still as a thick cloud of dust billowed around him.

Kimi was off Gryzmon’s back the moment they landed, sprinting to Tentomon’s side. Her partner was sprawled on the ground, her once bright eyes dim, her claw cracked and trembling. “Tentomon!” Kimi cried, dropping to her knees. Tears blurred her vision as she cradled her partner’s battered form, the toll on her body evident in the cracks along her exoskeleton. "Why did you do that? You could’ve been destroyed!" she cried, her tears falling onto the ladybug's cracked shell.

Tentomon let out a faint chuckle, her little hand curling slightly around Kimi’s. “Kimi... I don’t... I don’t really have superpowers, do I?”

The question made Kimi blink in shock, her tears momentarily halting. “What? What are you talking about? Is that why you did this?"

Tentomon nodded her head gently. “I thought I did. I really did. But... I don’t. I’m.. not.. I just...” Her voice faltered as she looked up at Kimi, her gaze filled with vulnerability. “I just wanted to be like you.”

The words struck Kimi harder than any of Tuskmon’s attacks ever could. “Like me?” she repeated, her voice soft with disbelief. Kimi’s throat tightened as she shook her head vehemently. “No, Tentomon, you’ve got it all wrong! I’m not a hero. I’m not brave, and I don’t have superpowers! I—I can’t even fight like you can!"

The light in Tentomons eyes dimmed, a subtle nod as she realised her mistake. A moment of realisation passed before the rookie’s small claw twitched, trying to reach for Kimi. “You don’t need powers to be a hero, Kimi. You just have to care enough to help, like you always do.”

Kimi’s throat tightened as tears welled in her eyes. “You... you think that makes me a hero?”

Tentomon’s smile grew. “Of course. You’re my hero, Kimi. That’s why I wanted to be one, too. ”

Kimi was silent for a moment, her tears falling freely as Tentomon’s words sank in. She felt a surge of emotion unlike anything she’d ever experienced—love, pride, and an overwhelming desire to protect her partner. Nearby a soft glow emanated from Kimi's coat, blown free by Tuskmons attack and hanging stoically on a backup pole stuck in the ground.....

Before Kimi could respond, the ground shook violently. She looked up in horror to see Tuskmon charging toward them, the dinosaur swinging wildly at the nearest living thing, his flaming fist igniting as he prepared another Panzer Knuckle.

"Kimi, move" Tentomon tried to move, her wings buzzing feebly. “I’ll... I’ll stop him, Kimi.”

“No!” Kimi shouted, her voice firm as she stood up, placing herself between Tuskmon’s fist and her partner. She spread her arms wide, her stance trembling but resolute. “You’re not doing this alone. I won’t let anyone hurt you. Not again.

The moment hung heavy in the air as Tuskmon’s fist neared, the heat licking at Kimi’s skin. Behind her, Tentomon was on one knee, her eyes wide as she watched her partner refuse to back down.

“Kimi...” Tentomon’s voice was filled with awe and emotion.

A surge of energy erupted from Kimi's digivice and shot towards Tentomon, a golden orb wrapping around the digimon like a cocoon.

TENTOMON DIGIVOLVE TO...

Tentomon felt her leg give way her damaged exoskeleton shedding itself to reveal a green wireframe underneath which quickly expanded into a dense yellow foot. Bit by bit Tentomon peeled away, damaged limbs replaced by strong hardened extremities. More powerful feet regained her balance, huge spikes appeared through the studs and cracks of her shell as it expanded tenfold, until she was no longer a little ladybug but...

TORTOMON.

The light burst outward, and where Tentomon had lain, Tortomon now stood tall and imposing, her sturdy shell gleaming in the sunlight. Tortomon’s massive foreclaw slammed into the ground before Kimi. "Grand Dash!" the Champion screeched as she scooped out a rock from the ground with her other claw and kicked it at Tuskmon.

-------

BushiAgumon groaned as he stirred, propping himself up with one hand. His other claw reached up to his kimono, now singed and tattered, and with a decisive tug, he ripped it off and cast it aside. The smoldering fabric fluttered to the ground as he stood tall, revealing a surprisingly well-toned frame beneath the layers. His eyes blazed with clarity as he cracked his neck and rolled his shoulders.

The dazed demeanor was gone, replaced by a stoic intensity. “Alright,” he said, his voice low and steady. “Playtime’s over.”

With his katana gleaming in the fading light, BushiAgumon assumed a battle-ready stance, his focus now razor-sharp as he stared down Kotemon and Tuskmon. “You wanna fight?” he said, his tone icy. “Let’s fight.”

He pulled out his katana slowly. "Chouteisoku Ichimonjigiri"

Eliam looked around as he noticed Salamon’s alert, but nothing caught his eye the way that Salamon seemed to think there was. He had spent the time hiding things and learning what he needed to do. But from the way that Salamon was looking around he had been so spaced out and focused on the information that he missed something. He had a talent for focusing so much that he forgot the world didn’t stop with him. It was a part of his old sin, one he had been working on and one that he was going to conquer in time. For now, Salamon was his compass for that. And right now she was telling him there was danger. He sighed after a while, not sure what he should be looking for. But shortly after he noticed the tree starting to fall. To him, it looked like the tree was near the hole of the cliff. How the tree was cut at a distance made it look like it lost balance from the missing piece of the cliff. It was angled to be heading towards them, too. He made a single motion of his fist from Salamon to the tree.

Salamon understood the instruction, as she started towards the base of the tree. Even though they had just met, Salamon was the very example of someone who knew him best. It was something he had adapted to quickly but had not understood completely. She made his lack of speaking easier for him. She closed the distances with great speed as she tried to keep her eyes open. She had not seen the small ninja again, but she was sure that it was near. There was no way that it would take the hit and not be somewhere looking for revenge. In a quick attack, she punches the tree at the closest point to her. “Petty Punch”

The tree fell in the opposite direction that it had been, before reaching Eliam. The fact that it had just missed getting so close to him, made him realize that although Salamon had saved him, he would have to figure out how to save himself. In this one mission, they faced enemies not only bigger but stronger than them. Eliam’s martial arts may not be enough to help him in the end, he might have to face the fact that he needs something more when facing a Digimon. It was a single slingshot, as the tree started over the cliff. Salamon rushed forward, looking over the cliff, “Watch out.” she called to the others. Not sure where the tree would land, but knowing that there was a chance that it might hit something.

Eliam reached her before they turned to the only other Digimon on the cliff. “If that is all, we are going to join our team,” Salamon spoke. Eliam was not sure if this Digimon was the one that attacked, but from Salamon’s reaction, he was sure that she wasn’t. He had figured that Sphinxmon was only there to watch. The experiments that were being done by her were something that he didn’t understand but knew meant something to her. In his opinion, she would want to watch her experiment more, including him. So if they were all in one spot it would be better that way, would it not? He didn’t wait for an answer, before spenging down the cliff, Salamon following behind him. Sliding in a way that was best for him, when he had to before he reached the bottom, Salamon beside him.

-------------------

Noise, noise, noise, nothing but buzzing noise. The crackling of the dying fire, the settling of rock and soil, the shouting and screaming of the small ones who came closer to see the devastation brought on by the fighting. Nothing but constant, aggravating, rage inducing noise. And then it all fell away as it felt the shallow breathing of the one in its cradling arm, eyes closed, face and jacket covered in scratches, and another soft coo escaped as it doubled its effort to keep the red haired passenger safe.

A deep, low, guttural growl started to rise from its throat as the giant stared down its prey. The experience and strength wasn't there, no matter how much it wanted to reach and tear the Knight's head from their shoulders. But that wasn't a good enough reason to tell the giant to run away. They hurt her partner, she will hurt them. Nothing more simple than that.

As Dark Knightmon readied itself with a stoic posture and mild swing of its lance at the ready, the giant jumped to life. Its quaking bellow erupted as it launched towards the Ultimate Digimon, shaking the ground and surrounding air one last time, with no concern for those behind it. Though its form barrelled at Knightmon, the perspective of its free arm would be hidden and not revealing to the powerful Digimon a trail all the way back to where it had started, clutching tight to a massive chunk of rock.

CABLE CRUSHER

The tendril tightened with such ferocity that an eruption of dirt and stone was launched into the air in the Giant's wake. The grasping fist and rock catapulted with the retracting tendon, quickly reaching them just as they were within striking distance of Knightmon, the Ultimate only now having the chance to see the crude weapon its opponent wielded.

It was a quintessential sight of primal vs modern. The towering armour covered figure, lance at the ready, suddenly getting cheap shot to the side of its face with a cracking blow of strength and rock. It was only using one arm, half its body turned away to further protect the passenger, but the feral Digimon continued to swing and pummel with the hunk of rock into Knightmon, and even past that as it shattered into pieces against the tough metal.

But that would be its limit. The fist struck again and again with little more than echoes of resounding metal, until Knightmon finally retaliated with its first proper swing of its lance, striking across the Giant and sending it easily back through the air. Its deep bellow soon gave way to the familiar sound of a soft painful cry as the Giant's form shattered and let the flying figures of Róisín and Lopmon come crashing back down into the soil and stone.

"Rói... Róisín..." Lopmon could barely get the words out, a few cuts and splotches of dirt on her body did little to convey how much she hurt, how painful she felt as she tried to pull herself closer to the still unconscious Róisín. She had to protect her, she had to keep her safe and...

The two lay in the dirt unmoving, shallow breathing the only sign they were still alive as the last of Lopmon's strength left her and she fell into the same state as her partner close by.

They just barely made it through between the scorching fire, cringing at heat that, although warming their ever-cool blood, crackled at their hair and the faux fur of their jacket. They came out the other side tumbling and wheezing, nausea returning in force with the oxygen deprivation of being stuck between the drying pan and the fire. Instead of tumbling out of their roll gracefully, they lost balance and flopped onto their front, breathing hard.

"Fuck," they whispered, slightly singed and exhausted as they tried to force themself to their feet despite the ringing in their ears and the spotting in their vision. They could see it turning. Searching. Hunting. They locked eyes.

Instead of a desperate animal, all they saw was a furious human. Arii shivered. From the back of their neck to the base of their spine, like a fullbody quake. Any animal would have turned and fled. Died somewhere it felt safe long ago. No predator fights to the death. Not for territory, not for food. Arii bared their teeth fear. That was a human thing. Dragging everything else to the grave with them was a human thing. An angry thing.

Looking at that cat was like looking down the barrel of a rifle held by a stranger. And they couldn't move. They closed their eyes.

And then quite immediately opened them again because their clothes cinched around their skin and their weight shifted, and they were being held by the back of their jacket like their siblings caught them cliffdiving again, and everything screamed hold still, but they swung their head, anyway and Witchmon was on fire. The sound that came out of their mouth was something between a wheeze and a duck getting stepped on as they were waved around in the air, and they tried to ignore how their stomach curdled at the sight of the ground too fucking far away, and suddenly they didn't mind the fact that they were sharing space with the digimon, because the alternative was dirt at nine point eight meters per second. No thanks.

To anyone else, they looked quite like a scruffed cat, halfway curled up and very, eerily still.

When the cat lunged for them again, it was simply... obliterated. A point-blank attack directly to its face that basically cut right through it at the cost of sending both Witchmon, and by extension Arii, directly into the ground.

They thought they'd stay there. That'd be nice. being horizontal, in general, Arii thought was nice. especially when Witchmon finally let go of them and all their muscles fell slack on instinct. They groaned basically all through Witchmon's monologue, although it was more like a raspy wheeze. "See," they grumbled, "this is why you don't do nice things for people. Gets you a whole damn menagerie of problems."

The ground was shaking.

Arii cracked open an eye they hadn't realized they'd closed, alarm trailing up their back weakly. They pried themself out of the dirt, weight set heavily on their shoulder as they did their best to figure out where the feeling was coming from.

Then a whole cliff collapsed and they figured that was probably where.

Once again, they were dragged by the back of the neck, this time until they were dropped in the middle of the rest of the group. They hit the ground with a hollow sort of thump, not even trying to force their spinning vision into some sense of coherency to catch themself.

Everything whoever said went in one ear and out the other as they watched the blurry figures tumble down the rockslide, something like morbid curiosity forcing their gaze to follow the distinct form of Róisín as she fell. They blinked, and it was lopsided. What they could only assume was Lopmon squared caught her, and they were promptly distracted by the ringing in their jacket pocket. They blinked again, comparing the tiny image of the digimon on their screen and the giant fucking thing that landed in front of them.

They took a long, deep, calming breath.

And then followed it up with "Motherfucker!"

A new sound itched at their ears immediately following. Something changed, going from Impmon's usual... Impmon-ness to help, help emergency, help! They forced themself to look just in time to see him digitized and... vanish. They stared.

Something in their brain went pop.

As Lopmon-squared charged the newfound problem, Arii forced themself to their feet in a slow, wobbling sort of baby-deer motion. "What," they barked, and gods they were so, so tired like they'd been run over by a train, but they stooped to pick up Impmon's digivice and tuck it into their breast pocket. "Did you DO?" It was a snarl as they whirled to face Dark Knightmon, proverbial hackles up and bristling. They wobbled dangerously, especially when both Róisín and Lopmon went flying past them to land on the ground unconcious.

The stand-off was intense. Both Unimon and Cyclomon clearly agreed with the parameters in play. Neither cared to speak another word either, as all they did at the moment was stare at one another. They were waiting for something after the unicorn had spoken, trotting a visible sign of anticipation, followed by Cyclomon's big claw digging into the earth. Like they were each waiting for the other to cave into the dominance of the presence of the other.

It seemed like nothing would cause either to fold until a heavy rumble of an explosion, echoing back off in the distance to where Groundramon had been thrown initially by Palamon X, triggered Cyclomon to react. With a mighty bellow of war, Cyclomon flung themselves forward to the stallion, lifting its more intimidating hand in the air as it took a chunk of the earth, crushing it in its grasp. Cyclomon tossed it at Unimon like a series of ballistics ammo in an attempt to keep the horse earthbound.

"STRENGTH ARM," it disturbingly echoed as it sent haymaker of a powerful swing into the ground, aiming for where Unimon had been as the heat from its mouth intensified, opening its disturbing elongated maw and releasing all the energy it had pent up.

"HYPER HEAT. " The attack was quantifiable and more concentrated than what it had used on Terriermon early. This time, it dug straight into the ground like an actual beam, not sending Earth everywhere like last time but legitly slicing through, chasing after Unimon. With the Satellite at a safe distance, it was clear the giant yellow demon, like Digimon, had no need to hold back anymore. This gave the war horse little to no room for counter until...

"TRANSFER FINISHED IMPMON RUTH ARRIVAL IMMINANT. ACCESS CARD NEARBY PLEASE INSERT FOR ADVANCED ACCESS"

The Satellite would confirm to Ruth as a fast light could be seen in the sky projected right... for... Cyclomon. The beast would only get a moment of warning as the light showed towards him before its brown-masked face was bashed into by the summoned Impmon like a celestial sucker punch, sending the poor purple imp flying into the air, but more importantly, canceling the Hyper beam attack as saliva left the beast mouth in a temporary shocked state. With the attack that had been chasing after Unimon canceled, the stallion had a wide berth of an opening to counter.

Impmon would land near the vicinity of the hospital hut as a groaning Dr. Takashi came out with Syaokomon.

"Ohhh, that must be the virus the goodie, goodie, must be talking about," the Mollusk chimed at Impmon as the good doctor saw the fight take place. Before introductions could be made, another intense earthquake, followed by a massive explosion much closer than last time from beyond the gate, could be felt and seen off in the distance.

"... They might me able to win if they can hold off long enough is what I would have said early, but with what I am witnessing now... they might be able to pull this off on their own," Dr. Takashi spoke rather shocked off it all with what Ace had pulled off.

As Gladimon let er rip, the duo initiated their counter plan, quickly sliding into a dodge as Mei slid with her Digimon. Though it seemed like Gladimon should lose some ability to curve with only one sword, he clearly lost speed, adding to the theory. Yet it seemed a one-blade wheel runner gave him a quicker reaction in direction as he shifted with ease after them in his spinning form. The frustrated ramblings of a madman could easily be heard from the moving saw blade.

As such, his blade quickly dug into the ice to follow them on their own path, his speed slowing down even more as ice started to build up on his blade. However, his pride blinded him to strategy, and he was quickly taken off guard by the smokescreen, heading straight in and reducing his visibility to zero, given his spinning attack. Yet he followed the haunting taunt of the woman's laughter, finding her position by sound alone. He would end this now.

Though it was clear he didn't care anymore, even with his senses messed up, common sense was already out the door, as all he wanted was Mei's beating heart in his hand. However, what hid in wait for him would find him first: the shattering of icicles and the sudden halt of his Wheel Rush momentum sealed Mei's execution over his limited thinking in a critical situation.

"Guhhh," Gladimon felt his own blade impale him as his body smashed into the icicles holding it in place. He was thrown to the side by his own momentum off track. The blade hadn't completely impaled through him as his armor stopped it halfway through his own body. He caught himself to a halt, using his own hands to stop himself as he lay on the ground once more. Again, this human had laid him out flat... Gladimon spat out digital coding as he looked at his new wound, gripping his own blade and ripping it out gritty from his body as he stood up. Surprisingly or disturbingly, he gave no words this time.

Mei had outdone him every time, had countered him every time, and now had bested him brutally with his own hands and blades. All of Mei's insults came flooding back to him, and everything now clearly was a calculated step to make him lose it. He could now see it all in the bigger picture. She had played him well for the fool he was... he no longer had a right to insult her with how much she had proven her superiority in the situation, and that realization alone boiled his blood to the brim. Though now what hit the most was his words returning to him...

"Such blatant disrespect for the field of battle. Such... such DISEASED INABILITY TO FIGHT HEAD ON. AND FOR IT? I AM STRUCK UPON MY PRIDE HAVING GAVE YOU FAIR GROUNDS TO DIE WITH DIGINITY."

He scowled at his own inability to see he was pulled straight into her game. His pride had been the disease that caused him to lose. She didn't disrespect the field of battle. She utterly controlled it most of the fight, and he, like a fool, charged head-on now in a near-dying state. He never knew he could hate something so much when really he was all to blame. Yet he still spun his swords... unconsciousness seeping into his mind as he stepped forward.

He would not die without his dignity; no, he still had many fights left in him. All he had to do was ignore her and go straight for the reptile. Once he was dead, he could handle her without a problem. Slaying the Kotemon wouldn't be a problem either. He just had to kill her other half first, and then he would win, right? His eyes were filled with madness and wanderlust as he kept moving forward.

Yet what was happening to him was the proper sight to behold. His whole step was not precisely moving but elongating his entire form. It was like watching a digital picture stretched to the extreme towards a new end while still latched to the starting spot. Kotemon charged the pinball sword strangely sheath as he reached out, seemingly aiming to snatch the champion. Then, without warning, it was like a reverse slingshot as Gladimons entire body was pulled right back to where he had been. A flash of light suddenly saw him go off high into the sky... he was gone as Kotemon hit the ground hard. Something had somehow removed Gladimon from the current equation.

Everything was silent for a moment as Kotemon got up and limped over to Black Gabumon handing him what he had jumped for before turning to talk to Mei.

"I saw you eyeing it. Figured it might be a good start to... something," Kotemon spoke, revealing the ribbon veil that had been latched initially to Gladimon. There was, however, something eerie about seeing it so up close. It was precisely like the tendrils that had snatched Mei into this world, but it was almost like in a state of flowing in the breeze even though there was no breeze to be had. It wasn't moving, but it was flowing slowly like a river.

"I am. I am going to go rest over there now and accept what comes my way," Kotemon finished his thoughts, turning away as he limped to a scaffold to rest against resigning himself to whatever fate the fort had in store for him. It was about then that a golden light in the distance shone into the sky towards the other end of the fort, and a voice very clearly rang out.

"TENOMON DIGIVOLVE TO..."

.........................

"WAIT, CHILD," Gryzmon would call out as the girl rushed for her partner. The bear was held off by the debris that rushed past him in the destruction of the Panzer Knuckle attack. The bear couldn't charge after being forced to watch as the vicious dino gave no care for life, throwing its second fist right into a golden orb. At first, the attack wildly crackled in power against the golden orb as the fires from Tuskmon's attack threatened to consume it, but as Tentomons voice rung out, the orb expanded, forcing the feet of the green dino to dig against the earth as it was alarmingly pushed back.

Yet the dino doubled down, putting more force behind its fist, pushing against the caving gravels of the earth underneath its feet as it roared in Jurassic force until finally the bubble popped, and its mighty roar quickly turned into a bellow of pain. The Panzer Knuckle made its mark, unleashing all its force onto a golden set of a spiked shell. While the attack had probably done some damage, the following piercings and scratches from the near-indestructible spikey shell very likely left a regretful decision in the Dinos mouth as it reeled back, taking into the sight of the newly formed Tortomon.

Its left fist, a bit of a bloody mess, made the dino roar in the challenge at Tortomon as the turtle charged forward, causing Tuskmon's animalistic nature to command it to follow suit.

"HORN DRIVER," it roared as the horns on its back glowed, colliding with the rock and obliterating it into pieces, but not without the cost of shrapnel damage covering Tuskmon's body, only enraging it further. With something in its way uneasily moved, it seemed Tuskmon completely forgot its mission, instead locking onto Tortomon as a territorial challenge.

Leaning downward, it released another territorial roar, baring its gnarly and jagged teeth at the oversized golden tortoise. With a few digging kicks into the ground, Tuskmon elevated its stance until its head was high in the air. Its back horns became infused with irradiating power until it lunged back down.

"BAYONET LANCE,"
the dinosaur unleashed an energy lance right for the Tortoise like a missile aiming to blow away anything daring to stay in its path. It seemed Tuskmon would not move forward until it had removed the turtle from existence. Off in the distance, watching the fight, the unique Kotemon watched, extremely confused. Out of everything that happened, why... no... how had Tentomon digivolve?

It was like that fool once in their life, something with its head driven so high into the clouds that no one expected anything from it, but at a moment of pure tension, expanded past what it had been labeled. Kotemon gripped the handle of his wooden sword. The fibers could be heard creaking, resisting splintering, and the rookie was angered. It realized why it had fixated on Tentomon... it reminded him... of her... the fool... the one who shouldn't have been able to defeat "them" under such a ridiculous reason.

Yet, while it knew now that combat was out of the question with this new form of Tentomons being beyond the rookie's limitations, he was given another target to handle in the voice of Bushi Agumon. Kotemon turned its helm towards the icey-toned lizard. Spinning its metal ball-ended veil ribbon onto its arm like a bracer, the masked rookie turned to Bushi Agumon.

"Very well... you will suffice for now. Thunder Kote," Kotemon's electrified voice gave in response, turning its blade to Bushi Agumon. However, the orange dino proved disturbingly fast as it went for a low horizontal slash in a flash, with the mask Digimon barely blocking the attack with an electrically charged wooden blade. He was forced back into the deadlock between them. Yet even with the well-executed guard, Bushi Agumon blad still dug lightly into Kotemons lower leg. He should have known better that Agumon species were well-known fighters.

"Inazumi Giri," Kotemon countered, releasing the energy stored in his blade like an energy slash, forcing back Bushi Agumon as the mask-wearing Digimon gave chase, quickly going for a series of torso slashes aiming to make Bushi Agumon not have enough breathing room to use another one of those unique horizontal slash attacks. However, with each slash, Kotemon found its thought befuddled by what it had witnessed before, the rocking memory of what he felt that day years ago and how Tentomon was now a fixated reminder of it.

"Tsk, too good to be alive, are we," Witchmon cackled in humored response to Arii's complaint of being saved or better yet, trying to do a good thing. Yet that sarcastic attitude didn't stay long as things shifted.

Raven could feel the sweat on her brow; just like herself, everyone's attention was pulled to the dark knight and the looming black-stained sphinx. With Firamon, it had been a battle of pushing for victory. The chance they had to win was shaky but realistic. Yet with these two things as the goosebumps crawled up Raven's arms? Even with all their new championships, even an inexperienced Digimon person like her could tell they stood no chance. Ji-Su thought the same; she could hear it in the older woman's voice.

However, what really unnerved Raven was Witchmon's body language, which was like a mirrored effect. All of Raven's signs of panic were noticeable to the girl as if they were her own signs. Witchmon was no longer irate, aggressive, or seething. She was silent, looking for even the most minor signs of movement from Dark Knightmon. It was how Raven would react if cornered, unable to move, until she exploded in panic at the slightest tick from that which cornered her.

Arii's cursing language finally cut the silence as Ji-Su followed suit, yelling a question to the domineering cat and confusing Raven. Was this really a place to... wait? No, this was a distraction. Raven's mind moved at what felt like a marathon a minute, trying to think of ways out with the time Ji-Su was dangerously buying them.

"Christians? Ah, this must be the label for one of your human religions, yes," Ancient Sphinxmon surprisingly spoke in response, turning its head mask in a circle of movement like an owl.

"It must be so hampering having so many false opinions on a higher power when all you need to do is come here to witness the very real goddess we give faith to here. Ah, but it's not a concept, is it? She pulls humans in and grants them you bio digimon through her gifts. I believe you call them Digivices, correct? All she wants to see is your purity restored, and let's be honest, such goals require a form of violence, don't they? My goal is to lessen how much must be applied. If a few snap, it only serves a better process for the rest. All progress is made through sacrifice regardless or organic or inorganic status is it not," the casual words emitted from the mask towards Ji-Su and Sealsdramon were off-putting to Raven's ears. This was seen as a causal conversation and nothing more to this creature that clearly had plans for them.

Yet something else bothered Raven deeply... it wasn't how Ancient Sphinxmon answered but returned its own questions. It was a Mega, right? So it had a long lifespan, right? So why did these questions feel so off? It wasn't even mad at Sealsdramon's questioning, and it seemed happy even to have a form of debate. Raven wanted to get away from this thing. Hell, she would take on the dark knight with a stick if it would mean the Sphinx would disappear. However, her thoughts were interrupted as a voice spoke up in a panic. Raven turned to the source with a blank expression of confusion, baffled by what could be happening and unable to stop what was happening, and watched as Impmon horrifyingly disappeared as Ruth Digivice spoke something about transferring.

"IMPMON," she called out in a panic, yet just as quickly as the words escaped her mouth, he was instantly gone. Her hand froze and extended out, with her mouth lightly forming a gap. Had they done that? She turned back to the suit of armor with its lance as noises started to crackle. Wendigomon showed it morning and guilt to the harmed Roisin. She was alive. Raven could feel some air return to her lungs. They had survived the fall. Amid this, Ancient Sphinxmon watched the light of data that was Impmon fly off...

"Oh dear, it seems something has happened at the Fort. Oh? We have done nothing. Perhaps friends of yours were messing with things they shouldn't have," Ancient Sphinxmon answered and asked Arii if they would know. However, Wendigomon let out an enraged bellow once more before they could respond.

"Keep your tongue in place, little one. Something you want to say, beast," Dark Knightmon turned from Arii to Wendigmon without remorse for the damage done to Wendigomons partner or Impmon's predicament. It was clear the knight gave no damn to human life unlike Ancient Sphinxmon who treated this all like a mercy like divined embrace, the knight clearly saw this all as a mockery of waste of the goddesses time.

The beast, as expected, lunged for him as the knight shifted one foot behind them, the reader to pierce the abomination that was until it unexpectedly showed off its creativity. From behind, at an angle the dark knight was blind to, he was quick to rock hammer into his face like a sniper shot. It was too quick to predict or calculate a dodge.

Rock and dirt flew all around the knight's visage as the fist made contact, finally forcing the knight to bend back in the wake of an attack. This was the first time Wendigomon had earned a sign of damage inflicted throughout this ordeal. Yet as it followed, the effect gain was lost as the knight, amid all the rock swinging, started to lean back forward, moving its lance in hand in preparation for a death blow.

"Witchmon, Sealsdramon, we have to do something," Raven pleaded to her partner and Ji-Su as they witnessed this primordial violence that would not end well. The witch, who had been very malicious and domineering, hesitantly scowled.

"We can't, Rave. Wendigomon might take a swing at us, and I don't think I have to point out how we would be crushed in one move," Witchmon expressed, not seeing a way to jump in with Wendigomon in its state of rage. even if Sealsdramon snuck in, giving her an opening, the moment they caught Wendigomon, they would be set upon by Dark Knightmon. Restraining and fighting were not options here; she doubted they could even pull Wendigomon away if they wanted to. Raven's teeth locked as she felt useless now, her foot-stomping... onto something metal?

Dark Knightmon finished preparing its slow stance as Wendigomon kept attempting to do anything, anything to break or even crack the armor the knight wore. Yet all their efforts for all their strength were meaningless. With one swing, Dark Knightmon retaliated with a proper swing, sending the giant flying up into the air like a bat to a baseball. The beast would curve up before brutally coming back down, shattering its form into glass as the two luckily landed where the original first attack explosion took off, giving them something of a cushy landing and, more luckily, near their allies.

Witchmon scowled deeply as her prediction was accurate. Not even something as heavily built as Wendigomon could take a straight-on attack. Of course, other elements were at fault, but the truth was what it was... at this time... they were too weak. Raven stood back up, placing something in her skirt pocket. She ran to Roisin and Lopmon and slid down into the hole.

Witchmon followed, unwilling to not be near in case a quick reaction was needed. Her eyes fixated on the knight as the cat seemed docile enough for now. Raven quickly flung Lopmon over her shoulders as she grabbed at the shoulders of Roisin's jacket. As best as she could, she started to tug the heavier-muscled girl up the hole.

She had Roison about halfway out of the hole until a foot shook the ground. Dark Knightmon started to walk towards them, and Witchmon started to collect moisture in the air. There was no way to extract everyone out of this alive, and knowing Raven, she wouldn't leave till they got Eliam to. For herself, this would only result in a last-stand method as her human Partner got Roisin almost out of the hole.

Up above, Kougamon sneered in delight as the tree headed for them. As soon as the brush overtook the boy, it would end, with his clone blades shredding him quickly to pieces. Or that was to be the case, but as the tree fell, the ninja Digimon noticed something strange... the boy was pointing his fist at the tree... what the fuck did that mean?

Kougamon was then met with an unexpected change to plans as the dog from earlier rushed at the tree with no commands, hitting it at its crux point, shifting the tree in the opposite route, causing Kougamon and his clone's eyes to go wide as now the tree proceeded to fall off the cliff with them all muffling there screams to avoid giving up their positions.

Raven looked up as Dark Knightmon paused his steps, turning to watch the tree. Salamon warned them about falling right into the collection of fall-off dirt where the two Titans had initially been buried. Most importantly, the team could confirm that Eliam and Salamon were still alive. Though Raven, in particular, had questions as to how they seemed so untouched, a blessing was a blessing at this point.

"Kougamon, quit fooling around," Dark Knightmon's low voice threatened out into the open, unsure where the ninja was but also noticing how unharmed Eliam was. The ninjas in question kept their mouths shut, still hidden in the tree, not wanting to reveal the embarrassing turn of events that would no doubt end in death. As Salamon told Ancient Sphinxmon, "later," the dark armored cat chuckled, amused by the oddity of humans and their different personalities. Before they could respond to have Dark Knightmon snatch Roisin and Eliam, it paused.

Everyone would suddenly see Ancient Sphinxmon's mask face spin wildly left and right on its swivel. Without any words, Dark Knightmon, unexplainable, bowing in place, took a knee. Something apparently was happening that was beyond their understanding. Minus the black cat's face, the two figures stood absolutely still and silent as the flames around them started to swiftly vacuum into the sphinx's body, leaving the significant damage done by the purple flames to be left in the environment.

As Eliam and Salamon got down safely, Raven spoke. "Let's not stay around to find out what this is about. Ji-Su, Arii help me out. Eliam, we're bolting something is happening at the fort." With that, Witchmon, in agreement, spun around as Roisin was given to the red-dressed Digimon. Holding onto Lopmon, Raven started to run with Witchmon quickly escorting Roisin. With the flames now gone, they could make a run for it.

So much had happened, so little had been answered, a series of chaotic actions took place, new enemies made themselves know, an ally seemingly teleported away, veiled threats, cryptic meanings, something about purity, and the bitch from the voice that took them all here. It was too much to piece together as it all stood.

Staring at the Sphinxmon, Ji-Su could only guess at what was going on with the two enemies who still remained, to Sphinx and the Knight. She doubted it was good. Raven's suggestion of running wasn't a bad one, but she did question, well, all of this, from the trap to the ninja, to just what purity meant to them. It was clear that digitalization was not the answer, as if it were the towns wouldn't be under constant threat. Though from one of the hints it seemed violence was a key towards this. Did it deal with the evolution of the Mons? Too much to ask, not the right place or time.

"Sealsdramon! We are leaving as quickly as we can!" She shouted. Looking at the group, she wasn't sure what help Raven expected of her, everyone that needed help had it. If anything she needed the help, dress uniform shoes weren't designed for running, maybe she should look for sneakers or boots. Another question and issue for later.

Fortunately, it seemed Sealsdramon understood this situation as he moved at speed, scooping up his partner, the Cyborg commando was quick to sprint off, though a red sensor eye was moving over the rest, looking for any others that may need his help. "Right!"

By the time Ace had found Ruth, his body felt like it weighed a tonne and he promptly collapsed into the dirt as soon as the club disappeared. When Ruth helped him to his feet, he barely had the energy to respond. “I’m fine.” he murmured weakly, though his legs betrayed him as soon as they reached the machine. He slumped back against it and slid down until he was sitting on the ground.

When Ruth praised him and Unimon, Ace didn’t know whether to feel pride, fear or maybe both. He could barely reconcile this unstoppable force with the anxious Cutemon he had come to know. The ferocity, the power, the sheer determination, it was unbelievable. It was as though all the anger and frustration Cutemon had kept buried had finally exploded, ready to consume everything in its path. All he could do was watch as Unimon stood against Cyclomon and hope that the battle wouldn’t consume them too.

-----

Cyclomon charged towards Unimon and tore a chunk of ground free with its clawed hand, crushing it in its grasp before hurling it towards his opponent. "Supersonic Wave!" Unimon cried, rearing onto their hind legs and letting out a piercing whinny from their mouth. The concussive sound waves shattered the debris midair, turning them into nothing more than dirt that scattered harmlessly around them.

As Cyclomon followed up with its Strength Arm, Unimon gave a powerful flap of their wings, thrusting themselves backward as the massive claw descended. The ground where they had stood a moment earlier cracked and exploded under the force of Cyclomon’s strike but the mythical beast was already in the air. Cyclomon snarled in frustration, the heat around its maw intensifying as it opened it wide and unleashed a concentrated Hyper Heat attack, slicing through the battlefield as it chased after Unimon.

The composite Digimon surely would have been consumed by the attack but, before it could hit its mark, Impmon shot down from the sky in a stream of light and crashed into Cyclomon's head. The yellow giant's attack was cut off in a spray of saliva and flame as it staggered backward in a daze. Seizing the opening, Unimon didn’t hesitate. Energy began to coalesce in their mouth, forming into a glowing sphere. "Aerial Attack!" Unimon roared, sending the massive energy ball hurtling toward Cyclomon as it's hooved feet landed firmly back on the ground.

Kimi found herself blasted backward as the two champions clashed, only just able to keep her footing as her dress billowed around her. She bid herself one glance backwards as her digivolved partner was set upon before running cover, a sound like stone breaking behind her. Tortomon let out a shrill cry like the sound of screeching metal, answering the skull marked saurians challenge, as broken shards of spike and shell fell loose as she stomped her massive feet. But she would not budge, no way. Even in the face of the Tuskmon's Bayonet Lance.

Surging towards her, Tortomon pulled her head into her shell as the beam hit, her hard carapace tanking the blow, as steadily the rest of her limbs retreated into herself. From the darkness inside her her shell, the champion gazed outward and with a powerful flick of her tail she pushed herself forward, putting her massive frame into a spin, the frenetic flail aimed at Tuskmon. "Spinning Attack!"

Kimi jumped over debris left and right, her footfalls unsteady. She could see the Kotemon watching the battle but he did not engage, merely standing there. Perhaps Tentomon's act of mercy had swayed him? However there was one Digimon present, other than the tantruming Tuskmon, that had decided to give no quarter today. Bare chested and icily brisk, Bushi-Agumon duelled the Kotemon, his buzz faded and replaced by cold determination.

Holding his blade before him, the samurai saurian was pushed backwards by his opponent Inazumi Giri, skidding along the ground before he quickly shifted his katana vertically, just in time to block the series of slashes that was aimed at his torso. He could feel Kotemons blade nick his sides, but Bushi-Agumon remained resolute. He moved the stick in his mouth to the other side, stepped backward, pushed forward and then headbutted the masked meleer in one quick move.

Coming up to the pole that hung her jacket, Kimi saw Gazimon lying amongst the debris a few feet away. Unsure of his condition but remembering how bad the state of her partner after Tuskmons attack, Kimi did not falter in rushing to his aid. Grabbing up her long coat she called out to Gryzmon as she ran over to the prone protege, sweeping the rookie up in her coat. "Gazimon? Are you okay? Are you hurt?" she asked softly and calmly, the lines of face creasing giving away her worry.

The transfer was complete, yet there was no sight of Impmon anywhere. Had she failed and relocated him elsewhere? It couldn’t be. There was no other option on the menu. Ruth was now officially stressed, feeling helpless. To her it was the ultimate fear. She banged her fist into the machine and hung her head. ”Come on! Something’s gotta give. I’ve just been sitting here doing nothing while Alex and Terriermon have been doing the work.” Ruth shut her eyes tight and grit her teeth as if making a desperate prayer for a miracle. She too slid down, slumping beside Alex with no idea what to do. ”I’m sorry…Alex. I guess I’m of no help here.” Ruth gave an apologetic glance then looked over to Unimon fighting against Cyclomon. They were on their own and Terriermon is in no condition to fight. He has played his part.

Just as her faith was beginning to fade, a bright light with a familiar cry had caught her attention. Cyclomon was at a loss. It’s attack was forced to miss when a purple blob fell upon his head causing effective damage. Cyclomon began to stumble in a daze and the purple blob had skidded over to the clinic. ”What the heck was that?” Terriermon was in awe of the mysterious creature.

”I don’t know.” Ruth mumbled, yet had a sneaking suspicion it was Impmon.

defhxaq-f2900597-66fa-4a20-93b9-565f0b2cd03c.pngImpmon groaned on the ground. Muffled voices could be heard causing him to seethe and shoot himself back to his feet. ”I’ve had enough of this roller coaster ride! Why am I being dragged everywhere?” He dusts himself off as though he had warped a million times. He was fuming with stress and was relieved he was alive and well. At last, he takes notice he’s not in the arena with Raven, Ji-su or Arii. Instead, he found himself inside the fort. What Arii theorized was correct. The settlement is being invaded. The entire area was lost in the wreckage of a battlefield. Where Ruth is his first thought. He began to worry about the worst possible scenario when he heard Dr. Tanaka and her partners talk. ”What? What is going on?” He asked no one in particular as his eyes were now focused on a unicorn with wings and a yellow cyborg beast. The two were facing each other in battle while the humans evacuated the area.

He looks around for traces of anything else. From afar, he found her. His platinum blonde partner. ”Ruth.” He mumbled. Quickly, he sprinted towards the figure along with Alex. ”Ruuuuuuthhhh!” He called out desperately trying to get her attention. He has to reach her. He has to make sure she’s fine or else he would be a useless partner.

Ruth and Terriermon were focused on the battle between Unimon and Cyclomon when she heard her name. She whipped her head in search of the noise. Once it came close, she turned in the direction, eyes lit up and relief washed over to find Impmon had been successfully transferred. She utters his name under her breath and meets him halfway, running over to the imp. They stop as soon as they are in front of each other. Impmon steps forward after catching his breath. His eyes become glossy, overwhelmed to see her in good condition. ”You’re okay.” He sighed.

”You are too. I guess the relic did its job. Thank goodness. Now you can help Cutemon.” She looks over at said digimon in the form of Unimon. Impmon follows her gaze, shocked that the cute, pink rabbit had evolved into a unicorn digimon.

200px-Terriermon_New_Century.png”What? You mean that thing is Cutemon? I can’t believe it even defeated anything.” Ruth had tilted her head quizzically. ”I saw the name was the cause of Shamamon’s demise.”

Ruth was now reminded of their situation. ”Impmon, where is my digivice? We need to get you to digivolve too.”

Impmon pats himself as though he had pockets then his large hands realizing the item was nowhere to be found. Impmon stands frozen, paling that he has failed to keep an important device with him. ”I don’t…I don’t have it. I-I think it didn’t transfer with me because it’s not digital.” Impmon’s ears drop apologetic for failing to keep the device secure.

Ruth stepped back, dropping her arm to her side. Her expression dumbstruck with the harsh reality. It felt like they lost. She fell to her knees. All of that work just for it to be in vain. Her head had hung low and her hands rested on the ground filled with devastation. ’No…no. You’ve got to be kidding me. What was the point then? Why did I..” Ruth claws the dirt rolling it into a fist as her shoulders tremble out frustration. So useless!” Impmon was shocked to hear such harsh words come out of her mouth. He believed it was for him, when she was talking about herself. It was never about him. What were they supposed to do now? Impmon bites his lower lip to hold himself and keep the hurt at bay. Of course nothing has changed. What did he expect? It stung even more when Terriermon entered the scene.

”Hey, hey! That’s not true. No one is useless here. It just means things got complicated. The battle isn’t over until you give up. Ruth snaps out of it. Terriermon was right. She was giving up too quickly because she has done nothing remotely good. She was trying her best. That’s what counts, right? Impmon glares at the rabbit. Offended that the rabbit had suddenly showed up to cheer Ruth up.

”Well, I for one am not a quitter. We managed to take out some Mushmon without digivolving. I ain’t useless. I’ll show you I’m irreplaceable.” Impmon spins on his heel and makes his way over to Cyclomon shooting a bunch of fireballs at them as a distraction to help Unimon get the upper hand. Terriermon was mortified by the impulsive behavior much like Ruth. Meanwhile, Ruth was just as surprised. At least he was doing something. What could she do? The card key? The one that fell to your feet. Can’t you use it?” Ruth had forgotten about the item. It might do the trick. She sprints back over to the device and inserts the red key Alex had dropped to see what happens. Maybe recalling a digimon will do.

Tense in both mind and legs Mei kept the blood flowing through them so her own may not be spilled.

Played like a fiddle and laid out like a shucked oyster Gladimon’s futile struggle would only earn a gaze of annoyance from Mei like he was some A-list celebrity trying to get her attention even though there was an untouched cheese platter near her. Who would she be if she didn’t get a little mouse some cheese to give the little creature the energy to gnaw through the support line of the chandelier so she could not only leave the party but get rid of the tacky thing.

They should thank her really.

Also having a witty phrase prepared for this situation required her to have taken any stock in what and she already kicked him once…twice if you counted both heels. Maybe she would have taken a stab at it if Gladimon hadn’t already stabbed himself.

Mei was glad some of her more squeamish seeming allies were not present for him pulling the blade out of himself but trusted Black Gabumon would step in if needed. She was also glad they were all adults to not make a naughty joke about the situation given Gladimon’s rant and mindset. Even the lowest of bars of humor would be wasted on him.

While she was deciding if she should just push Gladimon over at this point both Black Gabumon and Kotemon were making their way over. Even Gladimon was making some moves up because he seemed to be suddenly super cheating. Whatever physical stretch he was doing was most likely due to an outside force because it seemed to also be a stretch of imagination for him to pull out a new move this late in the fight. Kotemon could handle it.

Or maybe not.

Gladimon blasted off again right when Black Gabumon finished trotting back over to Mei’s side so they both could look down on Kotemon. He hit the ground hard…was he dead?

Oh no he wasn't.

“It is an end,” Mei said as Black Gabumon handed her the ribbon. Maybe it was a sign Kotemon would not live his life with eyes closed to the world around him anymore. The ribbon itself was pretty cute and seemed similar to if not made of the same material as what brought them to the digital world…but the way it moved reminded her of whatever the noodle dogs were infected with. Maybe she should test it on Kotemon to make sure it was safe to be around Black Gabumon…

But before Mei could snag him to fish for a couple answers since given his lack of you go girl energy the fight with Gladimon must truly be over there was a pillar of light and sound as if she was at a Hastune Miku concert. Eh? wasn’t that nearby where Kimi was? So, rather than go his way she stuck the ribbon into her stole’s tube and they went that a-way.

The duo made it a short distance taking care to avoid any more fights but it one didn’t need to be observant to tell Black Gabumon was struggling to keep going. Mei looked about for a safe spot to rest before helping Black Gabumon into a house. It wouldn’t be considered breaking and entering if the house was already broken right? Not that it mattered since few locks could have stopped Mei nor signs telling her to keep out. Safe in their own little corner of the world Mei finally had time to reflect on the situation.

Her relationship with Kotemon went as they normally do, transactional. He would be useless as a spy since Gladimon survived and there was nothing she could gain further from him. Maybe it would have been better if they took care of Kotemon before they left to tie off any lose ends. It might have been better to try and cut her loses earlier in the fight if that was going to be the case to use him more efficiently so Black Gabumon didn’t get as hurt or figure out what the stupid streams of data entering her digivice were.

Even before then things had started going sideways. Kimi didn’t even get to finish a round of the card game she had been wanting to play and since they played out doors when this whole mess started who knows if her cards were even still in good condition? What if something happened to shiny rose Greymon. Honestly it sounded made up for clout but Kimi wouldn’t do that so it must be some rare alt design she got for winning some tournament. Someone else should have played it with her the situation would have been perfect if Mei hadn’t stepped in to take care of the friction with sword Agumon since the pity she would have received from the interaction could have snowballed. It had been pointless to try and chase after Impmon as well. Plus, they had new sky fallers join them changing the fragile bonds between the others that just started to form and to make matters worse both Chel and Gabrielle were still alive when some sort of mentor figure should be out of the picture by now for the heroines to develop more. They had said the others were special, the others were chosen. Everyone paired off at the start as if predetermined by fate. Was it even possible for her to make a precious memory here?

She wasn’t friendly like Kimi with her new friends, she didn’t inspire others to protect her like Ace in the cave, Control others through boldness like Raven splitting the groups or eagerness like Ruth during Arii’s rescue, have the trained survival skills of Arii preparing the fish or be straightforward like Róisín was in the camp. All Mei had was money. She had nothing of value her.

All she had was worthless hope.

No matter how little it was, no matter how painful it was, no matter how much it would be better without she clung to it. As she hugged Black Gabumon a soft sound rang out,

Some soft music played as Black Gabumon and Mei doodled with countless sheets of paper on the table between them before Black Gabumon held one up to Mei. Nodding she sprung into action scattering the pages on the table for a scene transition.

The duo bounce around the small room with this and that before a pile of items rested between them. Inspecting them Black Gabumon tried on some surprised when Mei hugged them from behind before measuring them with a ribbon. She tied it cutely around their neck before pulling on the excess spending Black Gabumon spinning into the pile laughing only to get pulled down a moment later into it as well with the scattered objects making another scene transition.

Now wearing cute booties Black Gabumon pouted before at Mei offering accessories before she reached out a hand as if offering a dance. When Black Gabumon reached out she stuck a mitten on it. When they raised a hand to give her the middle finger Mei stuck the other mitten on it. Black Gabumon chased her around before Mei threw the cloth covering the mirror onto them before grabbing their hands and whiling them around in a dance the flapping fabric the last of the scene transitions with Mei and Hudiemon standing in front of the mirror for a picture before the flash of the camera ends the scene.

They gently squeezed Mei’s hand before flapping their wings to use infinity dreams to ease her for even a moment because Mei your spine your fucking spine you were crouching down to hug like the shrimp that fries their rice.

Even though no words were spoken Mei felt a bit better since she could probably use this as some sort of drug to manipulate others. It had only been a day after all there would be more chances for her to make a precious memory.

Everything would work out fine.

She stood up and likethe clock striking midnight Hudiemon de-digivolved back into Black Gabumon.

“Ara? It seems were both right as rain now,” Mei said lightly looking at Black Gabumon who was not only less critically injured but also less bald. With a speed that made it clear they were making light of the situation they continued to where Kimi would most likely be. Taking into account their original location before the fighting started and where about the pillar of light appeared they should arrive nearby but if not it wouldn’t be an issue for her to worry about~

Eliam paused as he reached the bottom of the cliff, looking surprised as Raven spoke to him. It took a moment for him to understand what was going on. There were flames when he looked down, but they vanished as soon as he looked around from the bottom of the cliff. He looked up and noticed the way Ancient Sphinxmon gave some unspoken orders. He looked back at Dark Knightmon and then turned to the group as Salamon was about to move.

As Salamon was about to rush after Raven, she paused when she noticed Eliam was not moving. “We should follow them,” she suggested, believing that he was hyper-focused again. But it became obvious that he was not in that mood when he shook his head.

Eliam stepped closer to the cliff until his back was against the rock, there were some key notes for him to think about. As he looked up, he noted that Ancient Sphinxmon had not tried anything when they left the area it was in. Even though it had made it clear that he was something new to experiment on. Then he looked down to Dark Knightmon, he was not trying to stop them, when it was clear what they were trying to do. They hadn’t let the other escape they used them as a trap to get more subjects. So what made any of them believe that they would be able to escape that easily? Then he looked towards the tree that had landed near Dark Knightmon. Even though he originally believed the cliffs were uneven ground, loosened the roots so the tree would fall. As he passed the base, it looked more like it was cut. Plus, if it was because of the cliff falling, Eliam looked up, then why did it fall towards the more stable ground?
Eliam looked at the confused Salamon, who had taken a few steps back to stand close by Eliam.

“Shouldn’t we stay with the group?” Salamon finally asked.

Eliam shook his head, “No. They want us.” he reminded her. Eliam was sure that the threat was not over, to the point that running was a good idea. Just because the flames were gone, and the cage was open, doesn’t mean outside was any safer. He sighed, there were three Digimons before them, at least. Ancient Sphinxmon wanted to test its cleansing of sins. Dark Knightmon, who was there to do as he was told, was the muscle. And a Digimon, only Salamon probably got a look at. Even if Eliam was not 100% sure that was all, he was over 50% sure that he was not only right but that the Digimon he had overlooked would not let them go, even if Dark Kinghtmon and Ancient Sphinxmon would stop.

Salamon looked around and tried to think of what Eliam was thinking, but as she looked, she figured he was waiting. For the next move that was coming, and near the cliff, made sure that they were safe from Dark Knightmon. As she looked up, they were close enough, that if there was an attack on them, the cliff would be affected and they were nearly directly below Ancient Sphinxmon. Only Ancient Sphinxmon, or the small Digimon from before would be a threat to them at the moment. It was not better, but one less threat was better than all three, that Salamon was aware of.

Cyclomon caught itself mid-stagger as it heard Unimon counterattack, shaking it off. It had no time to figure out what had suckered and punched it as the spherical attack was upon it. Not able to immediately counter with another Hyper Heat, the beast was forced to block, swinging its smaller hand, taking the full brunt of the explosive attack as the residual energy sprayed all around the yellow demon. Immense pain shot through the smaller arm As Cyclomon felt the singe of burning digital flesh.

However, the wound would pay off as the horse, having unleashed a heavy attack, was forced to land temporarily. Through the scattering energy from Impact, Cyclomon suddenly burst through into Unimon's direction with furious intent.

"Strength Arm," using the advantage of the horse having just landed, Cyclomon scooped up Unimon from the side in its massive head before turning around and heavily pummeling the war horse right into the ground, pinning the unicorn down with all its strength. Its maw started to open up as energy started to collect again.

"Do not fret, I do not do this with vengeful intent over my slain kin, but of holy order to that which you sinful represent with your war-like rage. Know peace, you die in the proper order of the veil mission," the yellow brute insanely addressed, acting as if Unimon itself was a sin of wraith. As this was going on, the waves of energy started to create waves of air pressure that expanded out towards everyone in the area. It was clear Cyclomon meant to end Unimon here with one brutal onslaught attack. Though a few unexpected fireballs came in the beats, however not to be deterred tanked them knowing which entity was the more significant threat. However, Its one eye turned to Impmon unamused, yet its eye dilated as soon as it saw Ruth using the Relic. In turn, the satellite screen quickly chimes upon Ruth, who had inserted the card.

Tuskmon roared in satisfaction, damaging the iron-clad defensive shell of Tortomon; however, that victorious roar was ruined by Tortomon's stomping, revealing it still refused to budge, pulling its head into its own shell. However gave pause to Tuskmon, who lifted up, confused by the unnatural bodily movement as her limbs followed. The Saurian had not expected that at all, evidently, as it became confused, revealing its more animalistic intelligence than something with full sentient intelligence.

So when Tortomon started to spin in place literally, the dinosaur was taken aback as the shell, with a single tail slap, rammed into it, forcing it back as the shell shredded into its body, causing it to latch onto it with claws, fangs, and horns, trying to stop the heroic push back the turtle gave. The force back was so potent that dust burst around the two combatants as they ended up right back where Tentomon had almost struck Tuskmon with the cut electrical power line before Kotemons interception.

Legs digging in the ground, the green horn-backed Trex finally halted their momentum before, with a mighty roar, throwing the spinning Tortomon to the right in the open street area.

"PANZER KNUCKLE," the saurian's right fist lit up with fiery energies; however, this time, it didn't charge at the oversized golden turtle, nor did it attack anything else for that matter. No, it was evident it had become aware of how dangerous the opponent had become. It was preparing its counterattack, growling as it waited for its opponent to make the next move. As this was going on, Kimi ran over to the very disoriented Gazimon, who yelped in surprise upon being lifted up in a coat.

"AH, WHATS HAPPENING? I TASTE TERRIBLE WITH LETTUCE," having apparently lost consciousness, Gazimon tumbled around in the coat before seeing Kimi, which caused him to sigh in relief over the imagination that the Tuskmon was making him into a sandwich. In turn Gryzmon caught up as he watched the bewildering fight going on.

"Kimi, that was very bold of you. You and Tentomon seem more capable than one would expect at first glance... how long have you been on the island? No, save that for later. We need to end this now. Does the hero have a plan," the bear started out complimenting Kimi but slowly seemed very curious about certain details. Yet, as he stated, talk would need to be saved for later. The field had definitely changed. They were back where they wanted to be initially, but now the momentum was no longer there for the original plan. Yet the two adventuring present were willing to give a hand as best they could as Gazimon got out of her coat.

"Ya lead the way. We trouble makers who stick our noses in others' business gotta stick together after all," Gazimon smiled, though for a moment his brain clicked at the fact Tentomon was missing, and now... oh boy, she had gotten bigger... that... would be harder to chat up with, but that was a problem for later. Shaking his head, he turned to Kimi, giving her a claw thumbs up.

The Electrical wire that was near Tuskmon also happened to be between the dinosaur and a building where a smaller golden light oddly shined from not once but twice. Kimi would be able to see through the damaged building Mei and Black Gabumon coming up close to the fight clear as day through the medium-sized hole in the structure from when Tuskmon had slammed around the buildings earlier. Atop that, at this new angle, Kimi could also see something not noticed before. On the other side of Tuskmon, opposite of where both Tortomon and Mei were on, was a massive dug-up hole seemingly recently made for a big project, as not far from it was a pile of larger pipes, the kind with which one would squish a human into a pancake.

The ingredients for many new plans were now evident... it just came down to how they would be used. Though as all these potential thoughts were made valid, both Kimi and Mei would notice a sudden rapid fire of flashing lights going up into the sky the same way that Gladimon had.

...................................

Blades of steel and wood clashed numerous times as Bushi Agumon tangoed with the unique Kotemon. Things were getting dangerously evident into a stalemate even as the orange saurian took the fight with a clearer head. So much so that he bashed his head into Kotemon's mask, forcing the purple Digimon back and shaking his head in frustration.

"Nasty little ronin," it hissed in frustration. More than anything, Kotemon hated being on equal footing with others. Even amongst his fellow Kotemon, he was superior by aggressive, determined training... yet he never digivolved. Not from a lack of trying but from a lack of an opponent putting him in such a bind to do so. After losing the one it thought would be the ultimate battle... it had gone about life wandering until it ran into a strange group that promised it a worthy goal... told him humans would provide the challenge.

Today seemed to prove that right with both Tentomon, and Bushi Agumons introduction in the way of his blade. However, just like that lost opponent, Tentomon had advanced. It kept its eyes out at the distance behind Bushi Agumon and the battlefield Tortomon shared with Tuskmon. If it were to treat Tentomon as its new rival, it would have to adapt and change its mentality.

"But first, let's get you out of... dammit... seems we will have to save this for later," Kotemon was ready to take on the saurian at full force, yet as it prepared its blade and ribbon, something happened it body started to stretch out backward unnaturally.

"Let that red bug, and its human know this is not over. That I have marked them as my goal to prove my worth to the blade," Kotemon clearly was aware of what was happening, and at this point, though it was annoyed, it seemed to accept the results of defeat in a matter of speaking as, within a blink, it became a purple light shooting up into the sky.

As the party at hand made a break from it Raven quickly realized something was off... Eliam had stayed behind. At first, she turned around at the good amount of distance they had made so far. The cliff was starting to disappear out in the distance. Before Raven dared to think of turning around, she noticed Arii trip hard. Running to them, she quickly helped them up. The wounds of today were catching up with them. With a quick snatch, Witchmon picked them both up, placing them on the broom with Raven in front of Roisin and Arii behind Witchmon.

"Rave. Were being slowed down drastically if they chose to chase us... we may need to think strategically of ourselves," Witchmon hissed, knowing precisely what was on her partner's mind, but with Roisin, Lopmon, and now Arii weighing them down, Witchmon was finding it hard to keep up with the less encumbered Sealsdramon. Even if they switched hands, Sealsdramon would be slowed down instead, which would be the only difference. Raven's face tightened as the tough decisions were nearing.

Witchmon was laying it out brutally, simple, and clean. The fact was if the mentality was to think of everyone's safety, it only put everyone in danger. Sealsdramon was close to running as fast as Witchmon's broom could fly. With what little she had spoken to Salamon, it seemed Eliam was a street-smart kid. If that was the case, he stayed within reason to escape. Minus Roisin and Lopmon, the party at hand hadn't been on the hill. they didn't know what Eliam knew.

"If he stayed, he did it for a reason. We will get him when we can. For now, let HOLY SPIRIT MOVE WITCHMON," Raven's sudden scream caused Witchmon to look behind her, going wide-eyed at the massive shadow that overtook Witchmon and Sealsdramon. Right above them, having leaped a disturbing amount of distance, was Dark Knightmon above them in the sky, spinning his double-ended lance before pulling back its free hand as dark energy collected, forming a demented wispy battle axe.

"Choujigen Axe," the knight threw the Axe between the two "running" Digimon. The moment it touched the ground, it exploded with dark energies. Raven screamed as Witchmon and all those on the broom were spun wildly out of control by the brutalizing kinetic force of the attack alone. Everyone would feel suckered and punched to the core, even at such a reasonable distance.

"Give me the girl and the rabbit," the voice that emitted from Dark Knightmons visor was calmly cold and was definitely not a request, yet a demand. Why did he want them? Raven's thoughts skyrocketed out of control... what had happened on that damn cliff?

Witchmon fought to regain flight control of her broom as they got dangerously close to the ground, swerving far away from Sealsdramon and Ji-Su. Raven watched, horrified, as Witchmon placed a hand on Roisin. She could tell what the crimson witch was considering. It was a whirlwind of thought

"NO," Witchmon flinched at that command as a tremor could be heard caused by Dark Knightmon landing.

"I CANNOT FIGHT THAT THING RAVE. I CAN'T PROTECT YOU IF WE TRY TO PROTECT EVERYONE ELSE TOO. I NEED TO THINK ABOUT "YOU","
The malicious and heated gaze that came from Witchmon along with her venomous intentions to her partner was brutal for Raven... she knew what this was... she knew... she had given those eyes to someone once upon a time. Along with the way she said you at the end... she knew the accurate word that was meant to be there. Raven looked at Witchmon with a pleading look as she gripped onto ROisin as well, making it clear she would jump if Witchmon did what she was considering.

"...Don't blame me if I can't arise to the occasion,"
Witchmon hissed lowly as she took her hand off Roisin. Raven did the same, hesitating about how to feel even in this tense and dangerous situation. As they kept flying, Dark Knightmon watched off in the newly created distance... it seemed they would not yield what he deemed to belong to the Veil and his Cardinal.

"Very well," with another squat of his legs, he shot off into the distance, this time now going directly for Witchmon. The crimson witch was ready this time as she curved the broom to a sideways travel form darting off. This caused Dark Knightmons to stretch out their hand to miss them as he created another tremor upon touching the ground once more.

"BALULUNA GALE," Witchmons' attack came at swift, cutting, windy speeds, but as they hit the knight, they shattered in puffs of air pressure, at best, just ruffling his cape. He lunged forward in a much more dangerous momentum spin of his lance.

"Twin Spear," The knight caught instantaneously with them as Witchmon dropped dangerously low to the ground, causing the piercing forward attack to miss as they continued rocketing away, barely able to withhold against the immense vacuum pressure the attack.

"We got this; if we keep this up we can AHHHHHHH,"
Raven was about to try and give her partner words of encouragement as Witchmon had thus far done well, yet her words were interrupted by the most jaw-clenching piercing pain that overtook her left shoulder. As Raven screamed her bloody head off her hands gripped the broom as she seemed to go out of control in pain. Her heart rate, and eye dilation going at it like a damn techno music gauge.

Arii would get the quickest answers to what had happened as a good chunk of Witchmon's own left shoulder was gone. Dark Knightmon had not missed that time. Witchmon hand under gripped her Broom with her left hand with the very real possibility that if she let go, it would fall off as numerous zapping streams of data leaked out of the open-holed wound.

Dark Knightmon watched them, having now gotten a gauge for Witchmon's reaction time and speed. As he started to squat again, he would end the Digimon with the next blow.

With Dark Knightmon leaving suddenly without warning, Eliam was left with Ancient Sphinxmon and the unknown to him, Kougamon. The sphinx's head kept spinning until it suddenly came to a sudden halt. The Cat stood on all fours, sighing at the annoyance of what had just transpired. Speaking to no one, in particular, it voiced its grievance, having an unknown conversation

"Sigh, we have been tattled on. How unfortunate... she seemed quite mad, too. Hopefully, my Archbishop is successful. Maybe a gift of progress will ease the pope's mind over this overstep," Ancient Sphinxmon lazily chatted to itself. Without even a second glance to Eliam, the cat's wings ominously expanded out before, with its own flap, the armored cat was gone. The winds that wildly blew ruffled the branches of the downed tree. Though everything was silent, a sudden voice spoke out in venomous disdain.

"Youuuuuuuu," from the foliage of the branches, something purple jumped out, landing a few feet away from Salamon and Eliam. As Kougamon landed with a threatening stance with a blade in one hand and shurikens in the other, he glared at the dog Digimon, pointing his blade at her first in particular.

"You think you're clever little gremlin, and YOU WHO IGNORES A CLEAR THREAT AS CLEAR AS DAY LIKE A IMBECILE,"
Kougamon, however, was quick to switch to the most significant criminal of the situation.

"You have embarrassed me beyond repair. I WILL BE THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE VEIL... that is, release, I drag your corpses with me. You will learn why you should fear the sight of the ninja," he spoke, his mind racing with how to make up for his failures in this situation with not just an Archbishop present but a Cardinal as well. The only fix was to do as Ancient Sphinxmon directed, and that was to capture this kid.

"So surrender or face the unseen power of the ninja," Kougamon threatened trying to speed up the process.

Cyclomon’s furious charge had caught Unimon off guard and they were slammed into the ground with an earth-shaking thud. The impact sent a ripple of pain through the mythical beast’s body... and through Ace. The young athlete gasped, clutching his chest as if he could feel the strike himself. He sank lower against the machine, his breaths shallow and uneven. “Unimon…” Ace uttered, his voice barely a whisper.

The mythical beast thrashed against the immense weight, their wings flapping and hooves kicking into the air, but Cyclomon’s sheer size and strength were overwhelming. “Do not fret,” Cyclomon taunted, gathered a swirling mass of fiery energy within its maw as it prepared to finish off it's opponent for good. “I do not do this with vengeful intent over my slain kin but as an act of holy order. Know peace, for you die as dictated by the proper order of the veil mission.”

Unimon’s breath became laboured as the air was crushed from their lungs but, deep within their chest, a spark still burned. It was faint but it was there; a wild, unyielding fire that refused to be extinguished. With a desperate surge, the composite Digimon let out another high-pitched whinny from their mouth that reverberated across the battlefield. "Supersonic Wave!"

A list of familiar digimon came up, but the question was what did it mean to recall. It sounded exactly what she hoped. Returning the digimon to wherever they came from and save the fort. It would be a failed mission on their part and the fort can be salvaged. If it kept going, the settlement would be in ruins. The amount of explosions and smoke echoing from afar told Ruth that they were not just attacking their area but another part. Whatever was going on, she prayed the innocent were safe, away from danger. Those who can fight with their digimon, she too wished them the best or at least survive the attack. The other concern the blonde has is if she can only retreat one or all of them. There was only one way to find out.

Ruth aims for Cyclomon and in doing so, clumsily hits Gladimon instead. Ruth began to flail her arms in distress. What has she done? Is that it? No more turns? What a fool. ”No, no! I meant Cyclomon. Cyclomon!” She shakes the satellite as if it would do any good. To no avail she drops to her knees while clinging to the machinery. ”I’ve doomed us all.” She sniffles comically. She couldn’t digivolve Impmon, and she has done nothing else that could help defeat the blasted enemy. They are all that’s left. If they could just finish him off and help the wounded.

Terriermon watched Ruth sulk. If his ears weren’t low they would have dropped further. This whole outcome sounded like bad luck had come to smite the poor girl and she was doing her best. The boy next to her seemed out of it too, focused on his partner. If he can do anything at all now is the time. He stares at his tiny hands and sighed heavily after a minute of contemplation. ”I don’t want to do anything, but I still got a debt to repay.” He told himself before entering the battle. He took a giant leap and inhaled deeply. ”Bunny Blast!” Three green fireballs spewed from his mouth one after another.

Impmon was irritated that Cyclomon was unfazed by his attacks. He couldn’t make a difference against Firamon and now this cyclops stared him down the same way the lion did. Impmon balls his fist. What more can he do? He’s tough, he can fight. Something has to give. Terriermon’s attacks had broken him out of his thoughts. They were small, the same level as him yet in their eyes showed determination. He couldn’t make heads or tails of it, but he could relate to the critter. On top of that Unimon stood up despite its injuries. They too held resolve to fight to the bitter end. The least Impmon can do is help too and reluctantly follow Terriermon’s lead.

Terriermon continued its consecutive attacks attempting to get its attention for Unimon to end this fight. They were the only miracle they have left. A champion versus a champion rank. ”Come on, kid!” Terriermon called out to Unimon considering they were just born yesterday while the rabbit has been around long enough. ”It’s all up to you. We have your back. Your partner is counting on you and so is Ruth.” Maybe that was enough pep talk for Unimon to hype up to the challenge than he already was. Terriermon’s attention redirects to Cyclomon. ”You and I aren’t finished, pal. You haven’t seen my ultimate move.” He scowled at Cyclomon and stood still calculating his chances while also taking note of everyone’s position and where to move after his attack. To Cyclomon, it was just a taunt until he spewed his fireballs at him to blind the digimon in order to get close and perform a follow up attack.

”Terrier Punch!” He slaps Cyclomon repeatedly with his long ears, using them as a secondary set of arms. With each punch he placed all of his energy and force to do any kind of damage. Whether it worked or not, at least their focus was on him.

Impmon too stepped up. Maybe they can freeze Cyclomon in place. It was worth a shot. He raises his arms to cast a spell as shards of ice appear around him. ”Bada chill!” The shards are aimed and directed at Cyclomon while avoiding Terriermon. He aimed for the lower half to keep him still.

Eliam watched as Dark Knightmon left and watched the direction that he went as Salamon took a defensive stance. He looked up as soon as he heard Ancient Sphinxmon speak and the ‘conversation’ sounded more like thinking out loud. So, that meant that they thought outside of what just the experiment. But the words used made Eliam believe that there was something a lot more going on when he thought of the words used. Church. That was the word that came to mind as he thought of what was being said.

It took him a moment to think about what he heard and the events of this adventure. As he did, Salamon saw the purple ball jump out and tilted her head at what he said. Eliam still ignored him, as she looked at him when Eliam was mentioned. Then she turned to the Digimon that spoke and with a questioning look, “Ninja?”

Eliam looked down at her when she said it and looked confused herself, “Hmmm.” he said before following her eyes to the ninja-like puff ball before them. He must have been the third one, which confused Eliam. He thought back to his memories and recalled what the little ninja said before he noticed the shuriken in his hand. Eliam reached into his pocket to pull out the ‘code’ shirken they had collected earlier.

The two blades were very alike, while thinking of what that could mean, Salamon added, “You shouldn’t be so open in your attacks if you are a ninja. Isn’t a ninja supposed to work in the shadows?” she asked.

Eliam smirked, as he kneeled, patting Salamon’s head, “What are you talking about?” he knew that the little thing said he was a ninja. But his little sister said that she was a princess and that was not true. He sighed before looking at the purple puff. “Hey, are you the idiot that did this?” he asked, as he placed the shuriken a little more out to view. “And then just left this where others could see? Why?” he asked.

He had questions, and since it was just them left, he was going to find out exactly what he wanted to know, from the only person that was not smart enough to be considered part of the experimental team, in the same light. Eliam was sure he knew more about what was going on, and even if he wasn’t strong enough now, he knew that he would have to figure something out to figure out how to use the situation to get back home. But first, he had to know what the situation was.

Those damn idiots... Was the first and primary thought to enter Ji-Su's mind as she watched the flyer intervening at the behest of yet another. Some sort of attack had gone off near them, but Sealsdramon had proven more than capable of balancing himself with his tail acting in support. The Witchmon and Raven with the other they were dragging along? Not so much. Things quickly got out of control, not that they were in control in the first place.

Ji-Su was a bit unsure of what to do as she sighed heavily, modern society morals and the whole, returning to the village with no one being a problem she curses bitterly before speaking aloud; "Sealsdramon, we need to at least try dragging the fool away."

The robotic dinosaur simple said the following statements without missing a beat. "Negative. Primary Protocol, Survival of the Ji-Su. Secondary Protocol, Destruction of the Enemy. Tertiary Protocol, Aiding of other Organic and Digital Lifeforms. Assessment, their sacrifice will buy us valuable time to escape."

While it was a bit disconcerting that the Digimon was refusing her instruction, his logic was sound. Given what she seen with the shoulder strike, it seemed any harm to the digimon reflected on the partner, it was simply not a good idea to jump in. Still...

"Sealsdramon, I want you to get them on their feet and moving, we can split off and they won't have one target to chase. Can you, with certainty outrun them if we continue?"

"Negative if both come for us.... Very well... No more, no less, you should keep moving, I will pick you up once again." "Just keep moving Sealsdramon. As fast as you can, keep the knight guessing." Not satisfied nor seeking the wrong logic in it, Sealsdramon placed Ji-Su down and raced right for Raven and the Witchmon. Snarling at them with biomechanic scorn.

"Those who cannot save themselves should not try saving another." And with that he unceremoniously grabbed the pair and threw them as he stared directly at the knight stepping of at his super speed so as not to be an easy target. With that in mind he quickly runs around the knight, ready to doge or breakaway to rejoin his partner.

Running, Arii found, was a supremely bad idea. Their brain had all-but disconnected from their body, and what was left of their adrenaline was waning quickly, leaving them disoriented and floundering.

Which was all to say they made it about into the woods before tripping on nothing at all and landing face-first in the dirt. Maybe they should just let the weirdos kill them. That seemed like a good idea. They'd be less than useless with an injury like they had.

And, of course, that didn't seem to matter to Raven.

There were hands on their shoulders—invading their space. Poisoning their breath—and they were forced to their feet exclusively to be snatched about the back of their jacket and lifted onto what was, broadly, the most uncomfortable vehicle they'd ever stepped foot on. Still, they locked their legs around it and tried their best to fight nausea as Raven and Witchmon argued. The world spun around them, and they assumed from the screaming that it was real this time which was... bad, probably, but they couldn't think past the ringing in their ears or the bile building in the back of their throat.

Well, not more than to dig their hand into the scruff of Lopmon's neck, eyes on the shining armor and deadly spear of the newest threat. They lost sight of it quickly as foliage rushed around them, but that didn't make the anguish, pain from the front any less startling.

Someone had been hit. They couldn't say who, their ears too cloudy to hear, and eyes on the crater left by the first strike.

People were screaming, another was talking—by the metal-tone that barely made it into their brain, they assumed little-bitch-mon—and quite suddenly, the whole broom was tilting nauseatingly, and Arii was sifting through the list of gods who might be willing to hear a last minute prayer.

"Skies above, I hope this works," they grumbled when they came up empty and couldn't find the glint of armor anywhere.

They couldn't see very well, and they definitely couldn't balance, but the green below was thick with wild brambles and heavy foliage. It would be hard to miss. Arii drug Lopmon to their chest, holding the thing like a stuffed toy as they zipped their jacket up to their neck. It was tight enough to be a makeshift sling, and more than thick enough for protection. "Keep going; we're too heavy," they snapped.

They dropped off the broom.

Curled into as much of a ball as they could, hands protecting their head, the fall wasn't as bad as it could have been, but it still knocked the wind out of them when they angled themself to hit a treebranch and land—painfully—on their feet, minimizing the mark they left on the foliage as they dropped to the ground and crawled into a deep nook between the roots of the tree they hit and the foliage, all but vanishing.

Gods, everything hurt.

Tortomon could feel her momentum shifting as she flew from the air, spinning to halt in the dirt. She looked out from the darkness of her shell at the glowing knuckles of Tuskmon, who had halted in it's tracks. The atmosphere could have been cut with a knife at that moment, a tense standoff forming between the two titans.

Kimi smiled genially at Gazimons disoriented mutterings. "You're okay" she said gently.

The pounding of feet made the 'Cool Girl' look up from her friend, her eyes meeting that of another. Complimented by Gryzmon, she was then asked if she had a plan. Kimi shifted her gaze between the two wandering warriors. Willing to follow her lead, Kimi couldn't help but feel increasing affection for the two Digimon. She surveyed her surroundings, noting as much as she could before her eyes widen as she spied Mei and her partner in a nearby building. She waved her hands in the air "Mei!" she called "Down here!!!"

Gone was the indignation, the irritation from Mei's previous words, Kimi only relieved to see her fellow sky faller galvanismgal galvanismgal . "Are you okay!?" she yelled, with true concern.

A string of lights ascended into the sky, the nearest of which was a purple hue, shooting almost overhead and into the distance, catching Kimi's attention almost instantly . There was a hiss of annoyance from close by, Bushi-Agumon venting his anger through his teeth and nostrils in a large exhalation. The ronin rookie holstered his blade, his expression darkened with rage. Kimi and the dinosaur locked eyes, their emotions quite the opposite. It was in this moment, Kimi realised what was going on. "They're retreating....?" she murmured.

Looking around the Kotemon army had indeed seemed to vanish....

"Gryzmon. Gazimon. I think they're retreating" she stated with more certainty though she could not say if that was a good or bad sign. The 'Cool Girl' hoped it was the former.

However Tuskmon it seemed had not received the memo, it's fist still lit up with fiery energy. Why isn't he retreating....? wondered Kimi.

Wanting as little bloodshed as possible, the fort already suffering enough, Kimi preferred to end this battle peacefully. After all, Tuskmon was a living, breathing thing and not a fabric festered fake like Fangmon. With the battle halted, she had to take the chance to just let him go. She lifted her googles from her eyes and looked to her companions. "I have a plan but I'm not sure you'll like it" she tried to keep her eyes level with her Champion friend. "I want to try and get Tuskmon to flee...."

She looked at Tuskmon, hoping that Gryzmon would follow her gaze. "The battle's over and I think he knows it." she said, her voice a mix of hope and uncertainty. "We just need to give him a little push and hopefully he'll just leave by himself."

Kimi turned back to her companions, unsure of their reaction but unwilling to compromise. She hoped they would follow her but she couldn't take the chance they wouldn't. Before they could answer, she looked to Mei in the nearby battered building. "Mei! Black-Gabumon! Can you guys make it down?" she shouted "We're going to try and surround Tuskmon, six on one, so he has no option but to flee!"

She turned to Bushi-Agumon and restated her plan, hoping that he too would follow her lead. But the ronin had been robbed of a duel twice today, and was itching for blood.... He exhaled sharply and swiped his blade in the air. "I will follow you" he stated, his words belying his true intention.

If he was given to the recourse to strike, he would take it gladly and without hesitation. Kimi took the saurian samurai at his word. "Are you guys ready?" she asked, her attention back on Gryzmon and Gazimon.

Ara? The town seemed to be in a worse state than whatever store Ruth had bought that buy one get ten crystal from. The duo continued to make their way towards the location where Kimi might be running into little trouble along the way. Everyone else seemed to have played their role and the situation was resolving smoothly so Mei was looking forward to hearing about their daring situations to assign a heap of heroine points to shake up the rankings.

Stopping for another brief rest Mei squinted spotting someone who was beneath her.

It was Kimi.

And she was beneath her but not as far as she could have been judging by the hole Mei also saw. She looked about briefly to see if there was an easy path down to rejoin Kimi for the pair but the Electrical wire and pipes seemed to imply Gabriel had a guilt pleasure of unsafe construction zones. If she had known of its existence sooner everyone’s Digimon could have played in them. It would be the closest thing they would every get to a playground unlike herself since when you had money the whole world was your playground.

It seemed like the Digimon formerly known as Tentomon was battling it out with another large Digimon while the rest of Kimi’s new friends watched. Oh? Even the Katana Lizard was about. Given by the apparent state of things were going along swimmingly. The seeds Mei had tried to sow and nurture had swiftly sprouted.

Mei radiated a cloying aura of something that was almost smugness but it was a bit too crisp to be that.

When Kimi yelled out to Mei she gave a gentle wave back not wanting to shout back. Why? She simply didn’t feel like it. It was clear that Kimi’s concern was misplaced from the gesture and thanks to her sunglasses she remained fine despite the constant lights coming and going lately. It seemed everyone was making like Gladimon and getting pulled away from the fight. It was clear they had won the battle but winning wasn’t everything just like how money couldn’t buy class. Mei had the suspicion it wouldn’t be as clear cut once all the facts came together.

As Kimi yelled again Black Gabumon got up from where they were resting signaling they were good to go. While the pair carefully hustled over to Kimi, Mei could only muse at who she was referring to.

Kimi herself, former Tenotmon, Bearmon, Michikazemon, Grumpy samurai…who was the sixth one? Did Kimi make another friend on her own? Oh! Someone was aiming for head heroine status. It would be nice if Kimi used her newfound confidence to show Raven how one should take the lead on things. Surely, she wouldn’t hit one of her comrades in their moment of need.

“Ara, shouldn’t the gate be opened for them then?” Mei said once she got close enough to the Kimi friendship harem, “or do your guests normally leave through a window they force open?”

Even a cornered mouse will bite you know so surely Kimi wasn’t going to have it trample through the village until it broke though somewhere leaving a hole in the already pointless defenses. The survivors would need some illusion of safety after all. Whatever swept away the other Digimon seemed to be outside their control, especially considering Gladimon’s lack of it. If they were retreating it would be easy enough to ensure unwanted people would not be waiting outside to enter the fray. Once one little droplet found a way out the rest would follow in a flood to escape their demise in the way politicians would when confronted with a scandal.

Cyclomon kept up the pressure, unwilling to let the horse of war loose, having experienced its heavy damage output firsthand. As it reached its endgame move, the unicorn struggled more and more. Yet the more significant hand of Cyclomon kept them pinned on their side without much issue, and right was the end neared? Unimon made a desperate move. Unleashing an aimless Supersonic Wave, the ground shook all around from the intense vibration attack pathway.

Cyclomon's balance was interrupted by the quakes, forcing him to slam his other hand down, trying to keep the horse pinned and pummeling his own hand to achieve that goal. The yellow brute legs fought to keep balance as its attack was almost finished in charge. As this kept up, the vibrations would near Ace and Ruth, quaking and threatening to throw them around in the process. Though through the thick of it all, a very audible dinging sound was emitted from the satellite as the options screen returned in full.

The Satellite revitalization shook the two teens' view, making it hard to properly concentrate on hitting the right option. However, for Cyclomon, the actual return of his attention would be garnered by the bunny, who took the advantage to fire away at the behemoth, causing three blasts to hit the beast's shoulder. Snarling in annoyance, Cyclomon lifted his head to see who was foolish enough to interrupt this righteous moment.

That would turn out to be the biggest mistake in the chain of events that would follow. Before Cyclomon could find the rabbit, a blast of water hit the blind side of his brown mask, causing the oni-like Digimon to turn away from Ruth and her party towards Dr. Tanaki with a raring-to-go Shakomon. The champion had about enough of this interference. Indeed, one unruly human demise would be satisfactory for following the horses. Yet that short time of distraction allowed Terriemon to close the distance, hitting Cyclomon's horn with a meager punch, but more importantly, the ribbon tied to it. This alone finally pushed success to the taunting nature of the bunny.

"YOU WRETCHED BARNYARD LOUT; you can die first," Cyclomon spoke finally, enraged by Terriermon's following taunts, but as they turned their head, an ice shot made its mark right into Cyclomon's only eye. The sudden ice block that froze it solid caused the champion brute to scream in actual howling pain as it let go of Unimon, stepping back a lot in pure pain and sudden blindness. The demon Digimon violently shook itself all over the place, completely disoriented, trying to regain some sense of its senses.

"Ya, ya, ya, I am fine, don't sweat it," Gazimon confirmed, adjusting himself, surprised by appreciating the girl's genuine concern as Gryzmon noticed the twinkle in Kimi's eye of appreciation. The two were caught off guard as she seemed to call off to an unknown party... ah, it was the woman who dueled her earlier, the villainess of the play of sorts.

The duo of Digimon also noticed the purple lights as Gryzimon, in particular, growled a bit. It seemed he had seen something like this before, and he wasn't a fan of it. That was broken upon the arrival of a clearly annoyed Bushi Agumon joining the party; it seemed something had been taken from him in a way.

"It seems that way...," Gryzmon spoke up in reaction to Kimi's confusion. Yet as it was evident Tuskmon was still raring to go, maybe that wasn't entirely the case. For now, the bear buried the thoughts of his own suspicions. However, what really did surprise the bear was the direction Kimi wanted to finish this in... peace. He looked at her with a completely shocked look that was quickly followed by laughter as a bear of a grin appeared on his face.

"You remind me of a friend I used to know... he would have liked you. I must admit I think the horned Saurian has gained enough reason to be put down. Yet if peace is an option, by all means, let's take it," the burly bear's stern but understanding voice spoke, accepting Kimi's decision as the two turned to the enemy from a soldier to a strategist.

As the rather wise girl beyond her years girl called out to her fellow human, Gazimon groaned as Gryzmon gave him a nod... this was going to be interesting. As Mei joined in, she made a valid point about the open gate option. Initially, the fear had been from destroying it to let the enemy flood in, but if the enemy had been in forced retreat, that fear had been swayed away.

"I think I can handle that bit. Besides, I might not be as menacing to the horn brain. Though you're going to have to give me a minute at least," Gazimon spoke up, dashing off into the distance to work on that part of the situation. As he left, Gryzmon got back up on his hind leg, letting out a roar, causing Tuskmon to suddenly notice there were more enemies now pinned between the bear and turtle. With a line of additional enemies, Tuskmon snarls got lower as it started to back off, charge hand still intact, ready to swing.

As it continued to back off, a sudden whirring of chains and metal could be heard, and it was without a doubt that soon the gate would open. All that would be needed now was some form of final push to make it retreat.

Kougamon's eye dilated as it realized Elima had still not noticed him even upon revealing himself... how could one entity be such a freaking BONEHEAD. However, Kougamon was then shocked upon noticing Eliam had, in fact, found some of his older shurikens; what the hell was this boy just picking up whatever he found interesting? He was about to chastise the human, but before he could... he was verbally overwhelmed by the words that dared to emit out of Salamon's mouth.

"Guh.... ILL HAVE YOU KNOW NINJA'S ARE TRAINED TO FIGHT OUT IN THE OPEN AS WELL FOOLISHLY HISTORICALLY IGNORANT DOG," he shouted, clearly wholly embarrassed by the solid logic Salamon put out. Though when Eliam spoke, Kougamon could genuinely feel the snapping of his patience breaking... that damned creature had called Kougamon an idiot, followed by him showing off Kougamons stolen tools of the trade that were left to strike fear now being deemed as evidence to further prove of his inability to be a ninja.

"I... I think I am just going to kill the pup along with you and say it was an accident," Kougamon hissed, frothing at the mouth and unsheathing his sword at the clear height this human believed it had on him at full display. As he bent his knees in preparation for the attack, he lunged forward with everything he had.

"Shadow Slash," the ninja blitzed forward in a snake-like shadow zipline straight all around the two before going straight for Salamon.

....................................

Dark Knightmon was about to launch but was quickly disrupted in its calculations as someone else hit them first. Raven and Witchmon, in the machinations of their pain, were quickly overtaken by Sealsdramon, who rammed into them before throwing the broomed residents with all his might, giving them an extra burst of speed. This was quickly added to as Arii, like an insane person, snatched Lopmon and psychotically jumped off.

Sealsdramon then quickly started running circles around the knight, halting the dark warrior's ability to try and recalculate. However, it was lost, as with the human rabbit and Arii also off the broom, Witchmon's speed drastically increased. Even in her damaged form, the broom was still fully operational. It seemed he should have destroyed the mode of transportation first.

The Dark Knight slammed his lance into the earth, causing a tremor in an attempt to shack Sealsdramon just enough to gauge his speed. Right when Sealsdramon would pull back, a heavy metal boot would kick into Sealsdramon's complete form, sending the cyborg flying away before pulling back his cape and revealing a massive shoulder blade-like axe weapon. Hanging off his originally hidden left side, it started to charge with dark energy. He would kill them all soon enough, but first, he would get what his master wanted by killing the witch and her partner.

Before he could take another shot, though, he realized the distraction Sealsdramon had made had created too much distance, and the attack wouldn't make its mark without killing the woman Ancient Sphinxmon wanted. He scowled as it seemed this foolish notion of folly would continue until the ribbon tied to his lance extended out and formed a massive cocoon around him. The shoulder axe energy dispersed as the Knight took a simple stance.

"You won't escape next time," he flatly spoke through his visor, not looking at anyone present or far away just out into the distance, uncaring though annoyed how things had played out, leaving a disgraceful taste in his mouth as high power would no doubt want to know why they had taken this crusade. As the forming veil cocoon burst into light, teleporting Dark Knightmon out of site.

As Raven, still dilated with pure pain, looked up, she saw the massive figure disappear in the distance. She wanted to tell Witchmon to return for everyone as she tightly held onto Roisin's jacket, keeping the woman steadily on the broom. Yet she knew that wasn't a sane decision, and she needed to let Witchmon concentrate on their flight plan. Even with that thing gone, it didn't mean another wasn't still out there.

She hated it, but she knew Witchmon couldn't hold much longer. Given the results of Arii's decision-making, it was clear Roisin was the sole target as it had not deswayed Dark Knightmons targeting them. They had survived accomplishing what they had set out to do today, but victory tasted more like bitter defeat. For now, she would just have to trust everyone would make it to the fort safely on their own way...

As Cyclomon staggered back, roaring in blind agony from the ice shot freezing its only eye, Unimon seized the moment. The winged beast, battered and bruised, rose shakily to their hooves, their breathing ragged but their resolve unwavering. The Digivice in Ace’s hand emitted a faint glow, almost as if responding to his partner’s unyielding spirit and Ace, still slumped against the machine, felt his strength partially renewed through their bond.

“We’re not done yet.” Ace muttered, forcing himself to stand despite his injuries and the overwhelming fatigue. He raised his Digivice, its light growing stronger and stronger as he poured everything he had left into supporting his partner. "Finish this, Unimon!"

Unimon’s horn began to glow with a brilliant golden light, brighter and more concentrated than ever before. With an earth-shaking cry, Unimon charged forward as they prepared to launch their final, decisive strike. “JAVELIN THRUST!” Their hooves pounded against the ground, each step building momentum, the light of their horn intensifying until it was almost blinding. Unimon leapt into the air, propelling themselves forward with a powerful beat of their wings and the golden energy surrounding their horn elongated into a piercing lance of light, aimed directly at Cyclomon’s vulnerable eye.

Kimi's eyes brightened as Mei and her partner approached galvanismgal galvanismgal . "It's good to see you again" she said

Kimi blinked in confusion. She had assumed, perhaps wrongly, that Tuskmon would take to the sky in a ball of light like the rest of his group.... If that wasn't the case, what was the exit strategy for Tuskmon? They wouldn't have just left him (?) here, would they? Gazimon, nobly, decided to open the gate after Mei's pointed point which made Kimi feel better though she couldn't help but feel something like pity gnawing at her. Was Tuskmon left here to die then....?

"Let's march together. Move as one" she said quietly "Once we're close enough, we'll make our move"

The 'Cool Girl' looked to Gryzmon. "We'll follow your lead" she said, placing a hand on his giant paw.

Bushi-Agumon sneered silently. "Ready?" asked Kimi

Kimi's heart beat faster, her stomach doing flip flops. Though she was set on peace, peace in this instance was a scary proposition. She put her googles back on, to hide her gaze and though she kept her head high she couldn't bring himself to look forward as she approached Tuskmon. Kimi looked to her left, towards Gryzmon, keeping her pace slow and steady. The 'Cool Girl' slipped her Digivice from her pocket, holding it in one hand before her like a 'weapon'.

Bushi-Agumon fell in line with the Kimi and the Champion, his katana resting on his shoulder. As they stepped forward, the rookie began to circle away, slipping towards the side of Tuskmon. He looked straight into his rival saurians eyes, waiting for him to make him move, B-A's claws tensing on his blades hilt.

Tortomon could see her opponent backing off from within her shell. Unsure, the soft touch of her familiar hand on her tail swiftly reassured her. Rearing her head from her shell, she saw in the corner of her eye, Kimi alongside Gryzmon, Black Gabumon and his partner, Mei pass. Extending her limbs from her shell, Tortomon let out a metallic screech, stomping her feet as a warning to Tuskmon.

Kimi gulped down her fear and did her best to look menacing......

Mei and Black Gabumon both looked at each other before using their combined power of four eyes to side eye Gryzmon at letting out the roar. Starting the assault on their allies’ ear drums was a poor move. If everyone wasn’t so keen on running in and solving problems themselves, they could have used some sort of trickery to chase out the large lizard Digimon like making a shadow or putting some sheets over someone to make a ghost. Maybe they could fake him having a large loan taken out in his name. How scary!

Mei having ran away to solve problems herself waited a couple beats behind Kimi announcing her plan for the group to close ground to recover some more stamina lost from the trip over.

While Kimi could use the power of friendship to smite the dinosaur leaving the offending creature alive wouldn’t bite her too hard. It seemed low on intelligence so whatever feelings they struck into its heart would remain making it easy to take down in a rematch. She probably didn’t know of the havoc it could wreck on the local ecosystem and Mei did not care since she didn’t see them remaining at the location for much longer. The hero’s journey never rests after all! That and the domino effect of their arrival would leave everything prickly like when three people show up to a party in the same dress but you later learn one of them got it on sale.

Between the hand holding and sneers from Kimi’s friends it seemed a good time to move into position.

"Ara? Why are you whispering after attention has been drawn to us? It might be better to let people focus on what they see rather than hear so we don’t walk into the exposed electrical line,” Mei quipped as she and Black Gabumon slid into what she deemed the riskiest position for the formation.

Katana, Digi vices, and loud screams being scrumpt it seemed everyone had a weapon of choice be it blade or body. Kimi seemed to try her best but…while you could claim she was being cool next to Tortomon she could hardly be called menacing. Well, she wasn’t the villainess After all so it could hardly be surprising.

There was a tangible shift in Mei posture. Her spine was no less straight than always but dropping part of her persona was like a shonen fight when someone removed a limiter. She had the presence of someone taking fifty one percent stake in your company in the divorce even though you were never married.

“Leave.”

Her address to Tuskmon was not an ask, command, nor was it a statement.

It simply was a law of nature.
