Fantasy I Was Fine Until You

Silas was thinking cute and fluffy, not really something that Arthur figured Caroline was into. She seemed more into scales and slithering but maybe there would be something for a snake or lizard or something. He’d like it to be a bit of a surprise really, not to tell her what they were looking for unless they found it. He didn’t know if they'd be able to buy a reptile or if they'd have to catch one but he thought it’d cheer Caroline up.

Her blush was cute, made Arthur smile a bit brighter but she was soon trying to squirm her way out of the activities. At least Silas was quick to shut her down. Silas could input his opinion but this day was about bonding with Caroline and making her feel better. The mention of babies might have freaked her out slightly, worry about her pregnancy and who the father might be but she was soon asking about toys they’d had when they’d been little. “I’m sure I’ve got some stuff back home that my mother refused to throw away but it’d be nice to get something new too” he murmured. “It’ll be good, make it feel more real” He knew that if felt distant and surreal and foreign but maybe by getting some things it’d help them to adapt.

”you got any names picked out?” Galehaut asked before sparing a glance at Arthur “is your father even going to let you name the child?” Alexander could insist upon a name although hopefully Arthur and Caroline would get to pick. Personally, Arthur hadn’t thought much about it. He didn’t really like the idea of naming a child after himself so wouldn’t suggest that and nor did he think he’d like to name a child after his father, and certainly not Rayner but there had to be some good names out there. Arthur looked at Caroline “didn’t you say you liked the name Alistair?” He recalled it had been mentioned early on in their relationship although he wasn’t sure if she was still keen on such a name, and he had no idea if it was a girl. It really should be a decision they made together though….maybe they should consult Lance though if it was going to be his….

It seemed this kid would likely get themselves plenty of old toys as well as new ones. But they were a possible future heir. So of course they'd want for little. The topic of names had Caroline pausing. Picking out a name suddenly made things feel a lot more real. Even if it was still sometime away. Galehaut seemed to worry that they wouldn't even be allowed to name the child themselves. Which alarmed Caroline a bit. Alexander would allow them some say surely! Wouldn't he? Caroline then paused as Arthur spoke, Finding herself surprised when he remembered her name suggestion. It had been a long while since they'd had that little talk.

Caroline then murmured softly. "Yeah, I thought Alistair might be a handsome name. But... We probable shouldn't settle on anything until we get back home. " The others might assume she was hoping for the king and queens input. But no... Caroline couldn't help but hope to talk to Lance. To ask him his thoughts. It felt odd to pick a name without him. Arthur would likely pick up on such. Silas though tsked. Saying gently. "Still, Its not too early to have some ideas. Perhaps for a girl Freya? " He suggested. Though Caroline didn't seem eager to start thinking up names. She did give a moment thought of Silas's suggestion

Caroline then said gently. "I.. Don't know. It doesn't feel fitting. " She confessed. It was a pretty name of course. Just didn't feel right. Caroline then thought for a moment before looking at Arthur. Murmuring. "Maybe Mary for a girl? " Caroline knew Lance was religious. He might like the choice of names for a girl. Though it was certainly a matter for them to give more thought.

Arthur nodded gently, he could understand why she didn’t want to pick until they got back. That was if they managed to make it back before she gave birth anyway and then she had to try snd find some alone time with Lance, although hopefully that shouldn’t be too difficult as he was sure Lance would want to see her. He wondered how his friend was doing. Had he received the letter yet? Was he doing okay with the news? It was a lot to drop on him when they weren’t there to discuss it or offer him any support but they’d had to tell him and if they hadn’t told him, he would've Heard it from Alexander when he no doubt announced it.

Arthur smiled gently at the suggestion. “That’s a pretty name” he agreed. “But we’ve got plenty of time to think up names and settle on one” he reassured her. Arthur did wonder what Morgan had been thinking up though in terms of names, he’d learn about his child when he received their letters but for the moment he was in the dark. He wondered if his father would get involved, not let her name the child or would he not care, refuse to acknowledge it, he didn’t want it to be heir to the throne after all.

”that time will go past quicker than you think” Galehaut murmured, “but at least you don’t have to handle parenting alone” he pointed out. “Even without servants, I’m sure the king and queen will want to get involved“ even with Malia’s new child, Arthur was her original baby and she’d want to help him out. Shame Silas couldn’t go back with them and help babysit, he’d seemed good with children when Galahad had been about. “I wish the both of you luck. I, personally, am not ready for children, not sure I’ll ever want any” Galehaut confessed. He didn’t mind children, he just didn’t see them in his future, a bit like Silas then.

Arthur luckily seemed to agree with her desire to wait to decide on names. Which relieved Caroline. Would Lance have a few in mind? Or would he be trying to distance himself from such things? Caroline wasn't sure. Caroline's gaze then moved to Galehaut as he spoke. His words did not bring her comfort. What if it was obvious who the father was? What would happen to her and Lance? The king and queen would be involved, They had seen Arthur as a baby. Surely they would realize? She must have looked a bit frightened, For Silas was suddenly saying softly. "I'm sure things will go fine. Don't worry. " His voice bringing her out of her thoughts. No doubt he assumed her fears were over actually having the child. It was a scary thing after all.

He then was looking towards Galehaut. Voice curious. "Has your family no interest in arranging you a marriage then? " Silas himself was perhaps lucky that he had managed to avoid such things. Rayner would likely try to force him to marry someone eventually. Silas planned to avoid such as long as possible.

Caroline couldn't help but feel a bit glad when the focus was moved to Galehaut rather then stuck on the pregnancy. Was eager to change the subject. Thus she soon offered. "I understand your desire to wait, But if you ever change your mind, I know some lovely ladies I could introduce you too. " She could set him up. He seemed to be a good man, No doubt she could find someone that would quickly be smitten with him. Silas though frowned at that. Before saying teasingly. "Caroline, Perhaps get to know the man a little better before trying to get him married off. " Amusement on his face.

They didn’t yet know this baby was Lance’s although they all appeared to be assuming it just would be, the universe would not be on their side with this one and the timeline certainly matched. She was the princess though and they’d have to pass this off as Arthur’s baby so he knew he wouldn’t be able to be properly involved. No one could know that Lance was the father so he likely wasn’t expecting to be able to name the baby, he might have some idea rattling about though. Neither Silas nor Galehaut, not any except Arthur and Lance would understand the true extent of her fear, the anxiety at being found out and exposed for her affair. Arthur would do everything he could to keep it under wraps but they’d just have to see. He knew that babies sometimes looked nothing like their parents and Caroline was a lot lighter than him anyway so any child they did have wouldn’t look too much like Arthur in the first place but the question was if it’d look identifiably like Lance, so much so you could spot it without looking for it.

Galehaut shook his head “I didn’t say that” he murmured and smiled at the offer from Caroline. Silas was right that she should probably know he was a decent man before getting any of her friends engaged to him but he’d been nice enough today. He was a knight, handsome, from a posh family, what more did they want? “I appreciate the offer but I believe I’m fine.” Galehaut declined. ”For the moment I think my family doesn’t know what to do with me. They’re not happy I’m a knight or that I left to come here. I think they’d like me to marry someone back home but they appreciate knights a little less over there so hopefully they take a while. Besides my sister just got recently married, they’d been wrapped up in her affairs rather than mine for a change“

”I Also only like a specific flavour of partner” Galehaut admitted, yeah, not exactly women and he wasn’t as clammed up about it as Arthur but he wasn’t going to blurt it out to the princess and certainly not at breakfast. ”I heard you’re the same Silas, little plans for marriage. Have Caroline and Arthur not inspired you to change your mind?” And Galehaut didn’t really expect the answer to be yes, Caroline and Arthur, in the nicest possible way, were an absolute wreck, a flaming fire at the best of times that they might not even fully realise. They were being all cute now, almost like an actual couple but you could still tell they were lacking that spark, they weren’t giggling together or kissing or sitting that little bit closer to each other, sure Arthur Was holding her hand but he wasn’t touching her leg like he couldn’t keep away, and he wasn’t whispering to her to keep her focus on him and their little world secret. No, at least they seemed like friends though, Caroline was sweet, it almost made him feel bad for leaving all those marks on Arthur. She had probably worried about him, when he hadn’t really deserved it. “Shall we move onto the shops?” Galehaut prompted, he too would like the princess to cheer up now. He’d not spoken to her much on the journey, seen her be a bit spoiled what with her arguments with Lance but she was young, she seemed at least like she was trying to be a nice person and that was all one could ask.

Galehaut was soon refusing her offer, Which fair enough. It seemed a matter he wished for him and his family to handle. Though he was admitting to liking only a specific type of partner. And that had Caroline tilting her head. Perhaps he was like Silas and preferred older partners? Caroline knew she had seen her brother pursue older women. So she assumed such was similar for Galehaut. Whatever the case she didn't want to dig. Besides, Galehaut was soon addressing Silas. Causing Silas to shake his head. "I think you can guess the answer to that. Nah, Marriage isn't in my future. " He explained. He'd avoid it as long as possible.

Galehaut then seemed to become ready to leave. And well, Everyone seemed finished eating. Thus Silas nodded. Expressing. "Yeah, C'mon. The shops aren't too far and I know a shortcut. " Silas could recall plenty of times going shopping with Caroline when she was small. Knew a few alleyways that would quicken the journey. Caroline was soon standing up. Nose wrinkling as she asked. "You're not going to take us down somewhere shady, Are you? " She knew her brother was rather fond of going out drinking or gambling in town, But there was a teasing tone to her voice. Silas had never taken her to such places before, And she doubted such would change anytime soon. Silas though was soon huffing. "Don't worry, Its too early for me to start being a bad influence. " His own tone joking.

He then promised. "I'll drag Arthur to the more shady places later. " And with that he began guiding the group out the door. Walking ahead, While Caroline took to walking next to Arthur. After a couple moments reaching forward to hold his arm while they walked. Unable to help the blush that formed on her face. Though she kept her gaze focused ahead.

It was peculiar that Rayner hadn’t lined up a marriage for Silas but perhaps it was because of how little he wanted him to be his heir, locking him into a marriage made it seem more real. Still, Arthur thought that Rayner might like exerting that power over Silas and forcing his son into a marriage he knew he didn’t want. Would Silas really be able to stop a marriage? He guessed he could run off again but Rayner would expect that trip. Or maybe he didn’t have his son married off was because he didn’t want other kingdoms to know what he was doing with his son or for anything to get in the way of his torture of him. Except Arthur knew…

They were soon on their way, Galeahut bringing up the rear so he could keep an eye on all of them. Caroline was quick to tease her brother which Arthur took as a good sign, meant she was maybe coming out of her self imposed shell a bit. He couldn’t help his blush though as Silas talked about dragging him to shady places, not sure if he was joking or not but reminded of Silas this morning promising to introduce him to some of his ‘fun friends’. Well, if they did go out Arthur would have to be back not too late so that he could be there for Caroline, and also hopefully not too drunk, they didn’t want a repeat of last night or for Caroline to get annoyed with the alcohol. It probably didn’t help that she was pregnant, the smell of alcohol might make her feel sick.

Arthur glanced down at their arms as Caroline thread hers through his and he smiled, gaze drifting up to her face even though she was looking resolutely ahead. He leaned in to press a quick kiss against her cheek before looking back at Silas’ back as they followed him. That meant he didn’t see Galehaut’s eye roll At them being lovey dovey, at Arthur’s two facedness but he wasn’t going to burst the princess’ bubble. “When you say Shady, how shady?” Arthur asked Silas warily. Would they be going gambling? Or committing crimes? Was it something that’d be a fun story or something he could not repeat in polite company? ”I enjoy spending time with your brother but I must say I’m glad you’re not as wild as him” Arthur admitted to Caroline. Sure she snuck out and chased lizards, she wasn’t immune to affairs of the heart but she wasn’t like Silas who came with a reputation of debauchery and wild abandon. It was fun to get a glimpse into that world though he admit, even if he didn’t feel he belonged there.

Arthur was soon enough asking questions. Probable for the best, As who knows where Silas planned to drag him. The mans question did cause Silas to glance back at him with a grin. "Oh, Don't worry. I promise I'll bring you back home in one piece! " Yeah, That probable wasn't comforting for Arthur. Nor did it answer his question. Silas then pouted at Arthur's words, But it was playful. While Caroline simply seemed amused. Telling Arthur. "I can be wild too! " She expressed. Though he was right, Silas was far more wild then she. Caroline did sneak out. But she didn't tend to get into that much trouble.

The group was eventually reaching another street and it was clear they were near their destination. different shops passed them. All clearly rather fancy places and Silas took a moment to glance around. Stopping for a moment before turning to Caroline. He then told her gently. "Alright, So, I believe there should be atleast a few dress shops around here. " Causing Caroline to nod, Replying. "Yes, Theres one over that way, Me and my ladies used to go to often. " She explained. Seemed she knew where to go. Good.

Silas then looked at Arthur and told him. "You do keep her company, I'm going to check out a store near here and then I'll catch up with you guys. " Seemed Silas wasn't going to be sticking around. He was already taking a few steps back as to leave there side. But Caroline was wrinkling her nose. Asking. "Silas, Are you sure you should go off by yourself? " While she didn't mind him doing his own thing. She didn't trust him not to get himself into trouble. Atleast if someone was with him it would keep him in check.

One piece? Arthur would’ve liked a bit more information but Silas seemed to enjoy the mystery and knowing Silas it could very well be something he shouldn’t be mentioning in front of his sister. “You’re wild in a manageable way“ Arthur replied. Caroline did have her moments, like chasing after him when he’d gone to face Loth! But generally she wasn’t as bad for his blood pressure. Silas always had his heart pounding in one way or another.

Silas was soon planning to leave them anyway. Maybe that was actually a good idea, would give Arthur and Caroline time to bond. Silas was good for drawing Caroline out of her shell but Arthur wasn’t sure if his presence would also hold Caroline back somehow. Without Silas it might be a bit closer, more almost intimate and private. Arthur agreed with Caroline’s worry though. Normally he would offer to keep Silas company but obviously he was staying with Caroline so it was actually Galehaut that piped up. “I can go with him” Galehaut was there to guard Caroline but honestly? He didn’t think he was needed too much. Arthur would protect her and besides he was a better fighter than Galehaut anyway. He was perfectly serviceable but he knew he wouldn’t be windy any competitions for his fighting abilities, not compared to the rest of the knights of the kingdom.

Arthur glanced at Galehaut, slightly surprised but also grateful. “that would be appreciated” Arthur said although he imagined Silas probably didn’t want to be babysat but it’d make him and Caroline feel better. “We’ll meet up in a bit” Arthur insisted “try not to drag Galehaut into too much trouble” Arthur teased before going to pull Caroline towards one of the shops. Who knows what Silas was splitting off to buy? Maybe it was something sweet and innocent but Arthur doubted that a bit, even when Silas had gotten him a rabbit he’d done it with a smirk on his face, sweet underneath but definitely a layer of mirth.

Galehaut arched an eyebrow at Silas. “He’s made amends with the missus then?” Galehaut mused, “You know if his mother had been in the same situation as Caroline she wouldn’t have spoken to Alexander for at least a week“ Malia seemed a lot more willing to show her public distaste than Caroline although Malia was still at the mercy of her husband, she was lucky Alexander put up with her behaviour rather than putting her back in his place although Galehaut was sure he had a few times. “And you two seem like pals again, even though you wanted to rip his head off this morning.” Galehaut was aware that him and Arthur had left his room fairly amicably but it had been a quick turn around and now they were acting like everything was normal. “How does that work then? You having a beating heart for your sister’s husband?” He asked, voice not as mean as it could’ve been more probing, as if he wanted to understand. “Now she’s pregnant and everything and you’ve still got the hots for him?” Silas could deny it to him but Galehaut seemed not too dissimilar from Silas in that he could read people fairly well when he wanted to, or maybe he’d just pressed up against the door listening to them speak this morning.

Silas's grin dropped a bit when Galehaut offered to join him. He was just about to refuse the offer. When Arthur spoke up. Agreeing with Galehaut and Silas shot them both a slightly annoyed look. But he didn't disagree. Watching as Arthur and Caroline soon left. Silas was just turning to lead the way when Galehaut started talking. Shooting a glance towards the man. "She's still upset. " Silas knew his sister, But, She didn't seem to blame Arthur. No, She put the blame on herself. Even if she wasn't at fault. But Galehaut kept talking. making Silas tense.

His tone was not aggressive. But his words still struct a nerve. Silas then glanced towards Galehaut. "Yes, Yes I do. He does not want to pursue anything further though. So we are simply friends, And thats how things will remain. " The words hurt to say, But they were truthful. Silas had no plans to pursue anything further with Arthur. Galehaut did have a point. Arthur was married to his sister. But Silas shrugged. "Caroline and Arthur aren't in love. It would be different if they were, But they aren't. " Except that probable did not make his own feelings better. Especially when Caroline was unaware of it.

Silas then focused forward. Slowing as they were reaching a building. It was pretty clear what it was from the outside, A smithery. Silas suddenly seemed rather embarrassed. Avoiding looking at Galehaut as he huffed. "I wanted to see about getting Arthur a weapon. I'm sure the designs here are different from the ones where he's from. " Arthur's kingdom surely had finer quality weapons. They were a kingdom built around warfare. But Silas still thought it might be a decent gift to take home with him. Though he realized very much how this all probable looked to Galehaut. Silas then murmured. "C'mon. " Walking towards the door.

So Arthur hadn’t fully made up with the princess but he was guessing she didn’t know all that Arthur had been up to last night or about his thing with Silas. He didn’t particularly like that Arthur was lying to Caroline but he could understand it and he also knew it wasn’t his business. There was a lot of things royalty did that he’d rather stay out of. But for the moment he was chucked into Silas’ business. He was surprised that Silas actually answered his questions rather than brushing them off or snapping at him.

“let me know when that changes” Galehaut muttered, he‘d seen Arthur make moon eyes right back at Silas, he didn’t believe the two would hold out forever. “Is it not still a bit weird?” Galehaut inquired. “Fair enough they’re not in love but he’s still the man who got your sister pregnant, is going to have a family with her. Listen, I know that the heart wants what the heart wants but doesn’t it feel strange?” Or had Silas compartmentalised it? Arthur wasn’t the same around Silas as he was around Caroline, not that he was majorly different but he was a bit freer with Silas on his own.

As Silas explained where they were going he couldn’t help but smile, maybe he was amused but it was also cute and it was funny how Silas was already embarrassed, knowing how it looked. “I can see what he was saying when he said you were sweet” Galehaut murmured. “You know, when he managed to talk past the tears last night but wow, you like this to all your friends or just the ones you have a crush on?” And that was teasing but he got a bit more serious afterwards. “I can give you advice on what swords might actually be functional“ he offered. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a sword aficionado like Lance and that but I know a bit.” He did actually fight with a sword, although not that he did much with it. He could help though.

Galehaut was soon asking more questions. wanted to know if he felt weird. But Silas simply shrugged. "I mean, I f*cked his dad, So I'd argue thats far weirder then him being with my sister. " Yeah, Galehaut probable didn't need to know that. But really, Silas had little shame. Except when being referred to as sweet it seemed. For his face was still red. Oh, A part of him wondered what Arthur had been saying about him. But he also wasn't sure he wanted to know. Especially when the two had been busy. Galehaut was offering to be of some use though. Suggesting helping out pick a blade, And Silas was frankly a bit thankful. Sure, He did have a bit of experience with a sword. But that didn't mean he fully knew what to look for.

Thus Silas was nodding. "I... Would appreciate that. " Silas could use the help. Studying the room as they entered. A few weapons sat on display nearby. All lovely of course, But even Silas could tell most were more decorative pieces then anything else. No, Silas figured it best to get Arthur something more proper for combat. Luckily soon enough a man was coming out of what appeared to be a backroom. Studying the two of them before dipping his head. "Prince Silas, Its lovely to see you again, Is Ronan not with you this time? " His tone curious, And it seemed Silas had been shopping here before. His gaze instantly flickered away at the mention of Ronan. A tension in his posture. But he soon said. "No, Not this time. " He replied simply. Hoping to move the topic along quickly.

Silas then said. "I was hoping to see about getting a weapon for a friend of mine, Something a bit on the sturdy side?" That had the man nodding. Seeming thoughtful before he asked. "Hmm.. Are you looking for something one handed? Or two handed? " That had Silas drawing a blank. While he himself tended to use lighter weapons, He could recall some men preferred much heavier equipment. What did Arthur prefer? Silas wasn't sure and he found himself glancing towards Galehaut.

Silas’ comment earned quite the side eye from Galehaut, he had not known about Silas’ escapade with the king and if anything it only proved his point that whatever was between Silas and Arthur was messy and awkward. He didnt mean that as a way to stop them, figured they were on an inevitable track but just thought it was worth noting. “Well, if you can‘t get the real thing, I suppose he Was the next best option….” Although Galehaut was so clearly amused with the whole situation. He imagined poor Arrhur’s brain was all over the place with the tangle they were in.

Galehaur had never met Ronan but he could see the sudden tenseness in Silas’ posture. He turned his gaze away though and inspected the pieces on display. They were pretty but likely flimsy, too thin or awkward to hold. They were showpieces not something to battle with, more something you hung on a way to ooh and ahh about, to pretend to your friends that you might be dangerous. The smith was soon asking questions and Silas was stumped. “a light two Handed one or a one handed one” He supplied. “He’s not big enough to have a massive weapon so he generally uses a one handed sword, but often with two hands” Arthur was often forgetting shield so yeah. “Maybe if theres something versatile?“ sometimes Arthur could use one handed and two handed? Somewhat weighty but not insanely heavy and not nearly as long as a sword like Agravain might have. “He should use a shield really but I fear he’s learnt from Lance how to be reckless”

Silas didn’t have to get him a sword though, he could get Arthur a dagger or even a more unusual weapon but obviously a sword was his main choice of weapon. “What are you thinking in terms of looks?” Galehaut asked Silas. Obviously the family symbol was a dragon so he could get that on it somewhere, or maybe he’d have it engraved or something on it to represent his relationship with Arthur. Maybe Sikas would have the hilt beset with emeralds so that whenever Arthur looked at it he was reminded of him, like looking into Silas’ eyes. It was such a sweet, personal gesture that Galehaut thought Arthur was going to really appreciate, the soppy idiot. “You don’t want the design to get in the way of functionality” he warned. “It’s all very good looking pretty but if he can’t hold it properly then there’s not much point”

to be fair to Silas, He'd had a crush on the king first! Though Galehaut might only tease him further on such things if Silas tried to argue. Thus Silas let it be. Soon focused on shopping. Galehaut seemed to be more helpful then he'd been expecting. Seemed to know Arthur's preferred weapon fairly well. The blacksmith listened to Galehaut explain. Nodding as he listened and seeming in thought. But the question was soon turned over to Silas, And the man paused for a moment before saying. "I... Had a few ideas. I was thinking maybe a dragon or tiger engraving. But... Frankly I don't really think either fit him too well. " Sure, There family symbol was a dragon. But dragons were far more intimidating and Silas could not picture Arthur in that way. Nor did tigers feel like a proper fit. Sure, They matched Alexander who seemed to hold the animals dear. But Arthur? No. He wasn't even sure how fond the man was of tigers!

Silas then asked the blacksmith. "Could you make the hilt a different material? " He began, And that had the man shrugging. Answering. "Depends on the material. " And that had Silas thinking further. He then was looking towards Galehaut. Asking curiously. "... Do you think a hilt made of antler would be too flimsy? " And suddenly Silas was feeling a bit flustered, Though he decided not to explain himself. The reasoning was simple. Arthur was a prince, But he was soft and sweet. Silas could recall plenty of stories his mother had told him. One of which he remembered fondly where a deer was king. His antlers being his crown and the forest his kingdom. It was just a small fairytale. But Arthur was soft and sweet, More like a deer then a tiger Silas figured.

At the question the blacksmith said. "Its not unheard of antler being used. I could certainly make you something using it. " Silas seemed pleased to hear that. Though he still seemed to look for Galehaut's opinion. He was the knight in the room. Also knew Arthur for well.. Longer then Silas, Even if he wasn't close to him. He might have other ideas that would work better.

(Silas is being so sweet, Arthur’s going to have to get him something in return!)

Silas was Not picking the more obvious options of the family symbols, not he wanted to make it more personal, recognise Arthur as an individual And have it suited to him. It was almost making Galehaut mushy, he imagined Arthur would be very gooey if he knew all the thought that Silas was putting into a present for him. So no tigers or dragons then which was smart on at least one front because Arthur did not have much of a bond with the tigers back home. He admired their beauty, respected they were powerful and dangerous but he wasn’t as keen on them as Alexander.

Antler? Well that was curious, he wondered what the story behind that was but he didn’t ask for the moment. “Would that bond well to the blade?” He asked the smith. Galehaut had no experience making swords so he couldn’t say but swords weren’t exactly light, even those on the smaller end of the spectrum, would an antler be strong enough? “If not perhaps an antler design made out of metal?” He suggested. He was imagining a grip and pommel normal enough to be held but which led into a guard that resembled the antlers of a stag from which a blade protruded. He guessed the same effect could come from two antlers fused together but would they be strong enough? The smith mostly seemed to make decorative pieces so he imagined he could handle the intricate design of stag antlers. “Or if not a smaller weapon like a dagger made from antler?“ he suggested. Perhaps the smith would allay any fears and say they would be strong enough but it was good to have a back up, they didn’t want it to break at first swing.

Galehaut had known Arthur for longer but they weren’t particularly close so he couldn’t tell Silas tons about what the prince liked. “what material are you going to wrap the grip in?” He asked. “It’s needs to be comfortable To hold. Don’t quote me on this but he seems pretty fond of green” Maybe they could find a shade similar to Silas’ eyes? “And of course every good sword needs a name. You’ll need to think about what to call it,“ he explained. Yeah Arthur was definitely going to find this touching. Hey, maybe it’d be the thing that broke the dam on them holding out on each other?

(Arthur and Silas always seem very sweet with each other. )

The smith was soon enough nodding to Galehaut's question. Saying gently. "Yes. If done right it should. " Galehaut was making a good point. It being metal with simply a antler design could work very well. Silas wanted the weapon to be stable. Useful in combat if it needed to be. He thus then asked the smith. "Could you do that? Make a antler design using metal? " He asked curiously. Though the smith just waved off his concerns. Explaining. "Of course, It would need to be custom made of course though. So I'd need some time. Atleast a few weeks. " So it wouldn't be a quick process. But Silas had figured as much. He'd rather such not be rushed and Arthur get something nice.

Galehaut was then suggesting green for the wrap. And Silas thought that would be a good fit. It would match with the antler design and he hummed gently. "I like that.. Yeah, Green. " Galehaut was then also mentioning that the weapon needed a name. Such caused Silas to draw a brief blank. Names, What was a decent name for a sword? Silas wasn't sure, Looking towards Galehaut and saying. "What sort of names do swords normally have? " Though he imagined such a thing simply depended on the owner of the sword. Maybe he should let Arthur name it? Such might be fitting. But Silas wasn't sure.

The smith shrugged at the question. "It could be anything. Perhaps you'd rather wait until it is made to name it?" It would give Silas plenty of time to debate on names. And thus Silas was soon nodding. Well, It seemed they were going to have a custom sword made. Silas could only hope it would be a nice weapon. Maybe it wouldn't match the quality of the swords from Arthur's homeland. But it would still be a fine blade.

(Yeah, i think Silas is going to get a big hug from Arthur when he gets the sword!)

Silas seemed like he was going with Galehaut’s suggestion. It wouldn’t be quick to make but it’d be a piece of art not just a weapon so Silas wasn’t expecting it to be quick. Would he leave it as a surprise for Arthur or let him know he was having it made. Galehaut wouldn’t say anything to Arthur, didn’t want to spoil the surprise although that meant it was a bit harder to tease Silas about it but really it’d be nice for someone to think about him that way.

Galehaut grinned at him as he asked what type of names swords had. It’d be good to see it before naming it but in Galehaut’s opinion Silas should be the one to name it not Arthur. “Something meaningful” he told him. “Sometimes people give them names which sound strong or which are meant to be lucky but I think he’d appreciate a name that means something to you both” he suggested. It didn’t have to be serious, maybe Silas should call it ‘Pretty Boy’?

“Anything else you were planning on getting?” Galehaut asked. Maybe he’d order something matching or maybe he wanted to get himself something from somewhere. “Or shall we go back and join them?” Silas had already known what he’d wanted really, would Caroline be so quick to pick out some dresses? Maybe she’d want them all but they could still be out shopping all day. Not that that was a bad thing. as long as they stopped for lunch. “Might be best to weigh in on any clothing Caroline picks out in case she ends up dressing Arthur too frilly” not that he knew the princess’ style but she might pick something a bit over the top for Arthur and it’s not likely that Arthur would argue. Silas might be able to suggest something more reasonable, or maybe he’d have a bit of fun and suggest something worse.

Galehaut was encouraging Silas to pick something meaningful, Silas would need to think on the matter for a time. A few ideas coming to mind. But with that the matter was mostly settled. And Silas nodded towards Galehaut. Looking back to the smith. He then said. "I trust you know how to contact the castle, Do send me word on the swords progress. " He encouraged. Before bidding the man fairwell. Turning and making his way towards the door. Glancing at Galehaut as he spoke. "Frankly much of the clothes Arthur's been wearing lately feels too frilly. " That could be blamed on all the balls they'd been attending. Silas did not think being all dressed up really fit Arthur.

Stepping outside, Silas took a moment to glance around before encouraging. "C'mon, Lets go join them. " Hopefully Galehaut wouldn't mind spending the day clothes shopping. Atleast it also gave a opportunity to see more of the town. Much of there time lately seemed spent at the castle after all. Normally stressed about Rayner. Oh, That made Silas recall the scars on his back. He wondered how long they'd take to fade if ever. Galehaut had seen them. A uncomfortable thought. But so far the man had asked no questions. Something Silas was thankful for.

Still, Silas found himself frowning in thought. Silas figured Arthur would tend to the matter soon enough. But Silas thought it might be good to talk to Galehaut about the matter. Saying. "The reason we asked for you to join us for extra protection. Is we want Caroline to always have a guard with her. " Galehaut already knew how brutal Rayner could be. So he glanced back towards him. "Father slapped her this morning. So, We don't want her alone in case he does the same again. " Perhaps such was to much detail to tell. They shouldn't bring Galehaut anymore into the issue. But atleast one of the knights should know why they were so wary.

Galehaut snickered a little as Silas called Arthur’s recent clothes frilly. Arthur had looked a bit like a disgruntled kitten dressed up in bountiful bows. “I’ve mostly seen him without the clothes but yeah you’re right” And Galehaut seemed to enjoy bringing up his tryst with Arthur in front of Silas, liked seeing if he’d react, if he’d ask the questions he was sure were on the prince’s mind. He’d been rather quite on the whole matter really and he got that it Was likely out of respect for Arthur but he expected at least maybe a warning or telling off for leaving Arthur in the state he had. Or maybe even ask how Arthur had been.

Galehaut sighed at the explanation. “Your father is a right piece Of work” he muttered. “And I’ve met a lot of nasty people, from priests to criminals but your father is up there” Slapping Caroline wasn’t the worst offence in the world although admittedly it wasn’t great but to know Rayner could escalate to whipping his own child until they were almost unconscious and covered in blood, that was something else! “I can talk to the others, make sure they understand the situation, even if not the details” he figured that this wasn’t something the royals wanted advertised.

“how are you feeling?” Galehaut asked. He hadn’t really inquired about Silas’ wounds, not that they crossed paths often but he seemed to be doing alright now. “I get you probably don’t want to talk about it but if you even need to rant…. My door is open” which was sort of sweet really. “A priest used to hit me when I was younger” he admitted. “I know it’s not the same, he wasn’t my father for goodness sake but I get what it‘s like for someone to hate you for who you are“ He shrugged at that as if it were old news. Maybe Silas would find it peculiar Galehaut opening up to him, they weren’t exactly friends, they hardly knew each other, but they seemed to be getting on alright today.

Gaheris's comment did not seem to rile Silas at all. Hi expression remaining calm. Though he did glance away at the mention of his father. It was nice to hear someone else speak harshly of the man though. Silas also was glad when he agreed to talk to the others. Good. Galehaut would probable be better at thinking up a excuse then Arthur Silas figured. So he glanced at the man and nodded. "Thank you. " Galehaut was then asking about how he was feeling. Silas knew what he was referring to. It was a tense thought and Silas then said. "I'm... Better. " The wounds had healed well enough. It was no longer painful to move around. So... Improvements!

It seemed Galehaut could relate. Was offering a place to listen. It was sweet, And well... Maybe he'd take him up on the offer. They weren't that familiar, But Galehaut knew enough and had not told others. Silas hesitated for a moment before saying. "I... Appreciate that Galehaut. I really do. " He paused in his walking. Thinking quietly for a moment before saying. "I... Think I've misjudged you a bit. You're better then I thought. " Silas's first impressions hadn't been the best and he was still a bit hesitant with Galehaut. But the man was quickly growing on him.

Silas then looked forward. Nodding towards a building and saying. "C'mon, Caroline and Arthur are probable in here. " He knew such was one of Caroline's preferred shops. Stepping inside, He soon was proven correct as he spotted Caroline. Seeming to be speaking with who Silas could only assume was the tailor. Caroline seemed to be hovering over two different fabrics. Talking to the woman and as Silas got closer he caught the tail end of the conversation. "-I don't know, I don't think this shade would work for him. " Caroline was saying. Seemed they were searching for Arthur something then.

Oh look at Galehaut and Silas getting along, if they kept this up they might become friends! How would Arthur feel about that? He wanted Silas to have more friends but Galehaut of all people? Trust Silas ro pick someone that didn’t really like Arthur. He wasn’t too bad though, offering to be there for Silas if he needed it and he’d helped him out earlier and fetched Silas when he’d been looking for Arthur this morning. He hadn’t gossiped about Silas’ injuries Either, no maybe he was alright, if a bit annoying at times. Him and Silas could have that in common.

Galehaut followed Silas into the shop and lo And behold there were the royal couple. Galehaut drifted closer to Caroline, more interested in fabrics than he was in whatever Arrhur had going on which wasn’t a lot by the looks of it. “Richer colours suit his complexion” he offered Caroline and the tailor. Pale colours wouldn’t stand out as well against Arthur’s skin in his opinion plus they were royals, they deserved fuller, more expensive colours.

Arthur raised an eyebrow and moved closer to Silas. “Didn’t find what you were looking for?” He asked, noticing a lack of shopping bags. “i knew your sister liked clothes shopping but I didn’t expect her to be so involved” he admitted. He’d expected her to take some recommendations from the tailor, maybe pick out a few items, not to be searching through all the materials herself trying to find something to suit him. It was nice though, he was glad she more in her element here. And whilst they were here Perhaps they should pick up some maternity clothes so she could still look pretty whilst pregnant, might make her less sad when her pregnancy got further along if she could still wear fancy dresses. “Maybe you should pick out something as well, so we can look nice when we visit another city” like Silas had talked about. “We could be matching” he joked with a grin, that might be a bit much really but maybe some retail therapy would help Silas too. His smile faded a little though and he looked at Silas more earnestly now “did you get along with Galehaut okay?” Silas had not look pleased when Galehat had been assigned to him and Arthur knew Galehaut could be annoying and prodding, trying to get a rise, remembered Silas snapping at him when they’d gone to town after/during the ball, he just hoped they’d got along A bit better this time.

Galehaut was soon making himself useful and going to aid Caroline. His voice making her briefly pause in surprise, But she was clearly pleased when he offered some input, Arthur had proven not to be the most helpful sadly. Caroline then was nodding to Galehaut. Before saying. "I was thinking maybe this shade of red? With a gold trim? That blue over there is also pretty, But I don't think it matches him. " She said, Squinting a bit. Well, Seemed she had opened up a bit! She was talking far more then earlier.

Arthur looked rather out of place and Silas was happy to keep the poor man company. "Sadly the brothel wasn't open yet. " He explained easily. A teasing grin on his face. But he then was looking towards his sister. Explaining gently. "Many noble ladies want clothes custom made. Wouldn't want to risk wearing the same dress to a ball. " Though he would admit that Caroline was a bit more involved then many others were. But she also wanted to make sure they made a good impression wherever they went.

Arthur seemed interested in visiting another city. That had Silas grinning. "I always look good. " He explained. Before giving a small glance towards some of the fabric. He then said. "Perhaps another day, I don't want to deal with having measurements taken. Have they taken yours yet? " Silas doubted Arthur would much enjoy such. But to bad. Arthur was then asking about Galehaut and Silas sent the man a glance. Before saying. "Yes, He's.... Friendlier then I expected. " He'd been helpful, offered advice and a ear to listen. Silas then looked at Arthur with a grin and said. "Helps he's so pretty. I see why you like him. " He spoke that part more quietly. Though he doubted Caroline or the tailor were paying them any attention. The ladies seemed focused on there discussion.

Galehaut was quick to get stuck in and help Caroline out, agreeing with her colour choices and suggesting if maybe a More royal blue, Didn’t hurt to try. Galehaut seemed more at home here that Arthur but he did seem quite fashionable himself, more likely to wear something fancy than some of the other knights. He was still a noble under that armour! Although that was easy to tell just by looking at him, he wasn’t the most hardened knight.

Silas was joking although it did make Arthur wonder what he’d really been up to, he found ti hard to believe that Silas might ditch them in the morning to go to a brothel, plus he was pretty sure when Silas knew they’d be open. But Silas didn’t want to share so he didn’t pry. “yes” he murmured. “I heard them murmuring about my arm measurements” he guessed they didn’t get too many muscular men in here and it’s not like Arthur was humungous but he worked out most days, practiced lifting heavy things, he was bulkier than the regular man, especially compared to ones from this kingdom.

He was surprised To hear that Galehaut had been friendly, although pleased. Silas was quick to tease him again and Arthur shot him a look. “you’re the one who keeps mentioning he’s pretty” Arthur replied. “Do you want me to put in a good word for you? I reckon he’s free tonight” Arthur wasn’t going to take without giving. Silas sleeping with Galehaut would just further make their whole intersecting relationships messy but well it couldn’t get much worse than what it already was: Arthur married to Caroline and Silas having slept with Alexander. Unless Arthur ended up with Rayner at some point or Silas with another member of Arthur’s family like Malia then it couldn’t get much more complicated. Right? “You might enjoy it, he was pretty good” Arthur murmured although Silas might have to ask him to be gentler.

Silas was unsurprised that the girls had been talking about his arms. Arthur was a well built man. All the knights were. He had no doubt the girls would spend plenty of time talking about him. Glancing back towards the group. It seem Galehaut had taken to helping Caroline. They'd likely have multiple things picked out for Arthur soon enough. But Arthur could perhaps use the more warmer clothes. The subject was soon on Galehaut and Silas snickered at Arthur's words. "No thank you, I'm not into pain. " Silas expressed, Glancing towards Arthur's neck where he knew bruises hid under makeup. Yeah. Silas did not like things so aggressive. Though maybe Galehaut was just like that towards Arthur.

But maybe Silas should consider taking a partner tonight? He was lonely, It had been some time. He'd suggested taking Arthur to a brothel. But maybe Leo would keep him company. It might be best for Arthur to stay with Caroline tonight, Or he could visit Galehaut again. Would Arthur get Jealous again? He'd promised to try not to. Maybe it would be good to see how he'd react. So after a moment Silas said. "Besides, I might visit Leo tonight. I figure you'll probable want to keep Caroline company tonight. " He explained.

Silas then paused as he heard the sound of Caroline calling. "Arthur, Do you like these colors? " She was asking. Seemed she'd picked some fabric and was wanting Arthur's approval. She then gestured towards another nearby pile of fabric and said. "We're planning to have made for you something out of these, And these. " She wanted to make sure he liked them! Though he had been rather quiet on most of the shopping so far.

Arthur wanted to cover up as Silas looked towards his bruises but he knew they were already covered By makeup and clothes. He wasn’t into pain either but he’d needed it last night, some sort of retribution for the pain he’d caused. He couldn’t say whether Galehaut was always like that or just for him. He didn’t plan on asking either. Silas was turning down the offer for Arthur to put in a good word but that didn’t mean he’d be lonely tonight. Arthur wasn’t exactly thrilled as Silas said he’d spend time with Leo but he remained calm. It helped that he wasn’t drunk and had come to his sense, Leo seemed nice and it wasn’t fair to try and intervene when he couldn’t offer Silas anything else. That didn’t meant it didn’t sting a little but Arthur just nodded. “Yeah I should spend more time with her” he agreed. “Enjoy your night”

His attention was soon being pulled away though and back to Caroline. Maybe he was colourblind But to him a lot of the shades looked the same. He just didn’t really have the eye for this sort of detail. He smiled warmly at her. “They’re nice” he agreed although to be honest he’d probably wear anything she picked out. “What about you?” He asked. “What are you getting made?” He didn’t want to leave this trip with only clothes for him. Hopefully she planned on having some dresses made for herself.

Arthur moved closer to take one of her hands and kiss her cheek. “Thanks for helping, I don’t know what I would’ve done without you” he murmured, okay he did sort of know, he’d be freezing and unfashionable. Caroline helping out meant at least no one would laugh at him for his outfits, just everything else he’d done. Yeah, that other city was sounding nicer and nicer. They’d have to see if they could organise it, just to get away for a little while and relax. He didn’t think since he’d been here he’d relaxed properly once, this kingdom and Rayner in particular made him tense.
