Creatures
A number of strange creatures exist in HIGs, and most of them are the result of bioengineering. In the initial expansion away from Earth, many companies sent colonies out to space with little supervision once the colonies were created, leading to some literal mad scientist antics as companies paid scientists on these outer planets to discretely bioengineer the newest Perfect Pet or spcare-adapted plants. Nowadays most of these operations have been completely shut down, but their creations remain a part of the HIGs world today.
Voiders
These are little bio-engineered creatures that have no greater desire in life than to find a ship and just fix it all the time. They were created hundreds of years ago by some ambitious scientists who did not realize how easily they would spread as an invasive - but very helpful - species. They are little creatures that thrive in shipyards but are almost never seen by humans. They’re rarely captured by cameras either, in fact. The main evidence of these voiders is the mysteriously repaired ships and ship damage, and the small metal masks they leave when they die, as their bodies turn to rusty sand upon their deaths. They are in almost all ships, and there are tiny holes in the walls where they live.Many crews know to leave leftover food in the mess for at least 1 hour so the voiders can come and eat. Crews also will leave old spare parts around any new installations added to the ship to encourage the voiders to investigate it. There are often also open toolboxes dedicated to the voiders’ use, filled with spare parts to maintain the ships.
