Druella “Dru” Arville

Dru had never looked at Hunter this closely, he was handsome obviously but from this close she could see that his eyes had flecks of darkness through them in an enchanting way. His jaw was angled but didn’t make him look harsh and my lord were his shoulders always this wide? Everything about the entire situation was making her blush, making her stomach turn and everything in her wanted to run off and hide. Clearly it was too late for that, Hunters hand was softly clasped around hers and his other found her waist. Dru had danced with a hundred different people, none of them ever made her nervous. Not like this.

Of all the fucking people. Why did Hunter have to be the one to prove her wrong about butterflies?

“They may be a bit too invested in me at this point.” Dru chuckled, loosening up a little bit at his comment. At least until the next one left his mouth. She looked up at him, her eyes slightly wide and her lips curving into a small smile despite her best effort. “Well thank you. You look quite nice as well Hunter.”

Why was she feeling so down? Dru looked down for a moment as the two of them moved around the floor. At this point she was basically a trained professional in this sort of dance, it was easy to hold on a conversation doing so now. Unless it was a question she really didn’t feel like answering. “I- well.” Dru didn’t know what to say really. That it felt like the end of something? Even though she really didn’t know if it was, she didn’t even know if an end was actually possible. Hunter was engaged to Loire in the same sort of relationship so he would understand it but… talking about it made it seem so real. “I think Larkyn and I finally came to an understanding of one another. We love each other, dearly even, just not romantically. I guess I’m just a little sad because it feels like a failure?” The two of them spun slowly and Dru finally looked up at him again, “You tried for a little with Loire, tried to make it bearable and get along best you could. I guess we were trying to do the same but we’re both just pretending it worked. It feels nice to know we don’t have to do that anymore but… it’s not like it really changes anything right? I mean, my father wouldn’t dream of cancelling the wedding. Neither would Larkyns parents. So it’s a bit sad I guess. To admit we don’t love each other but we’re stuck either way.”

Dixie

Dixie simply shook her head when he offered to take her home. “No, I have a duty to be here. I’m just a little run down I guess. I’ll be okay, but thank you for worrying.” She was fairly sure he wasn’t buying what she was selling but it didn’t mean she would just give up. The two of them were nearing the middle of the dance floor, joining in with the few other couples who graced it as well as the rare couple of students brace enough to dance the first slow dance of the evening.

“Cotillions are expensive.” Dixie spoke a little too quickly, her voice a little sour. The mention took her quickly back to her summers in Georgia. When all of her supposed friends were attending pageants and fancy get togethers. The only time Dixie was able to go was if it was a stage show, one that she would attend with the girls and help them all backstage. It took her a while to discover they weren’t her friends, she was their unpaid assistant. Dixie never was ashamed of not having money, it wasn’t what life was about. She was however ashamed that they had no money because of her parents drinking and drug habits. “What? Oh sorry.” Dixie smiled sheepishly as she finally looked up, trying her best to just go with the flow without watching her feet any longer.

It wasn’t until Terran said her students were worried that Dixie truly felt terrible. If even they noticed she was doing poorly, that wasn’t good. It wasn’t fair to them to be acting this way. But that didn’t mean she wanted anyone prying into her business. Dixie couldn’t really understand what she did next but, she felt wounded. Not by anyone but herself really but… she just couldn’t handle this right now. She felt stressed over the letter, guilty for her students and trapped in general. Telling people about her life would ruin what she had here, Dixie was fully convinced that this was fact.

“Just stop.” Dixie pulled her hand from Terrans and stepped back from him mid dance. Tears were threatening to spill over and she didn’t want it to happen here. “I don’t need your fake charming comfort. It’s fine. I told you I just don’t feel good okay.” She sniffled, looking down to hide her face. “I just- I have to go.” She didn’t want for any response, she simply turned and quickly made her way out of the ballroom. A few students tried to ask if she needed help and she quickly explained she just needed to head to the ladies room. Oh how she wished that was true.

Dixie used to get panic attacks often as a kid, this was surely beginning to feel like one. Once she was out of sight of students Dixie made her way around a few different corners and corridors until she finally felt that she wouldn’t be found by any roaming kids. Then she shattered. Dixie slid down the stone wall and sat against the cobblestone floor, pulling her knees up to her chest and hugging them tightly.

Why was her mother trying to push her way into her life now? After years? It wasn’t something she could handle… she couldn’t go through all of it again. Ever.

Cyrus

It nearly felt like they were back in school again, only with a lot more freedom. They would get in trouble for sneaking out probably, but it’s not like they would get detention anymore right? The outside was gorgeous at this time of night, being on the island meant they were far away from the lights of the town. They could see the stars bright and clear and the lake off in the distance stance as it sparkled under the moonlight. Then of course there was Loire, well over dressed for an evening of running around outside but also somehow perfectly in place with the dark beauty around her.

When Loire grabbed his hand Cyrus almost pulled away out of shock. But after a moment he pushed away the doubt and instead held on tighter, following behind her as they made their way to the old hideout.

Cyrus watched as she moved around the place, chuckling as she found the voodoo doll. “I don’t know, I’d argue that it may have worked. The man has a few screws loose.” He moved a little closer to her as she tossed it, peering around in the dimly lit area himself before turning to open the small chest they had over in the corner. There was a half filled bottle of fire whiskey and tons of remnants of old books and a deck of cards. He kept digging until Loire spoke up and made him nearly choke on his own spit.

Cyrus had forgotten about that. How he came here after graduation, on their last day right before leaving and etched that into the wood with his flame. He was sad that he would be gone, leaving her behind and never having told her how he felt. He thought maybe just maybe, leaving that mark behind would help. Telling the universe or some shit like that right?

“Larkyn didn’t.” Cyrus said after clearing his throat. He stood up and walked up behind her, resting his hand on her shoulder to gently keep her looking forward. He wasn’t sure he would have any confidence left if he could see her face. “L is your initial too, dumbass.” It was kid of crude but the tone of his voice was soft. “I -“ Come on Cyrus. “I kind of had a huge crush on you. I never said anything but… I did this on my last day of school. I just felt like I had to tell someone ya know? Even if it was a piece of wood.” At this point his face was beet red. His hand softly shaking. God she was going to think he was a freak. At least he didn’t tell her ALL of it, she could forgive a school boy crush right?

Larkyn
You deserve to be happy. Larkyn didn’t think he had ever heard someone say that to him. Of course he knew his sister and Dru cared about him, that Cyrus wanted the best and so did Hunter. But hearing it felt so much different, held so much more power. Larkyn couldn’t help but grin to himself a bit, it felt nice to feel worthy. It was what he worked so hard for… in everything he did. He just wanted to be good enough for the people around him.

Then Larkyn let Sapphira have her turn to talk. Listening to her about her life, he couldn’t help but feel a little sad. It seemed like she was so talented, and loved magic and this world. It was kind of upsetting to learn that she didn’t get to take part in it as much as she would like to… it was upsetting to know he probably wouldn’t be able to see her after this year. They were having so much fun together, even menial tasks were fun. “They really hate it that much?” Larkyn questioned, his eyebrow raising slightly. “I know a lot of muggles aren’t big fans of things they don’t understand but, I guess I always assumed that those who have family with magic would try and accept it.” He gave her a soft smile, trying to be comforting. He couldn’t imagine having parents who hated magic? It would be like they hated part of what made him… him.
Sapphira spoke some more before swiftly excusing herself. Had Larkyn messed up, asked something he shouldn’t have? He wasn’t sure if he should go after her and apologize or giver her space but… something made him move forward. Following quickly behind her and joining her where she stood out in the courtyard.

“Sapphira, I’m sorry.” Larkyn spoke as he walked up behind her, taking off his suit jacket and wrapping it gently around her shoulders to protect her from the night breeze as they spoke. “I didn’t mean to upset you or make you uncomfortable. I just wanted to get to know you better, I’m very sorry if I overstepped a boundary.”

Loire

Loire gently traced the burned letters in the wood as Cyrus spoke. Larkyn wasn't the L? Then that meant... Loire went to spin around to see him but froze in her tracks when he appeared behind her to hold her shoulder. No, he couldn't of done this. He wouldn't! It was HIS idea to be just friends and Loire just agreed with it to save face. Who wanted to kiss their best friend, the love of her life, and then be friend zoned? He was right in the end, right after she lost her water magic so she was no good for anyone least of all him.

Maybe it was good that Cyrus couldn't see her face. She was overwhelmed with sadness, happiness, confusion, so many emotions at once. It was such a cute, sweet, simple thing that Loire had no idea she'd be so touched by. And the dumbass was just the icing on the cake that made tears spill from her eyes. "I-" Her voice was a small squeak as she struggled to find the words, words that wouldn't insult him. "It's so fucking cute but you're not supposed to do something like this by yourself you ass. You could of told me, I would of done it with y- that's, that's why I k-" Shut up Loire. What did it matter anyways? She was a fucking freak, one wrong spell she could hurt him. That was the last thing she ever wanted. Plus, she promised his mom to make sure he was happy, and safe. She was the exact opposite of safe.

"This made my night, thank you." Cyrus made her feel such confusing feelings, but after two long years without him she didn't want to lose him again. Gently she reached up and held his shaking hand, her free hand wiping away the tears. It was so stupid to cry, she hated it, but she was so happy she couldn't help it. Emotions were confusing. "By now I hope you know that all I do is cause trouble and chaos, and that you deserve someone who can make you happy." It killed Loire to say that, it really did. All she wanted was to be with Cyrus but she knew it was a dream. The harsh reality was that she'd never be good enough. Still, she held onto his hand with a small smile on her face while she envisioned what life would be like if she wasn't part of her family, if she wasn't cursed, and they were just allowed to follow their hearts.

There was a small silence and in that moment she could hear the slow song playing from the ballroom. "I think it'd be fitting if we had our first dance here. What do you think?" Loire spun on the black heels that made her a couple inches taller, her pale cheeks still slightly tinted as she laced their fingers together. Her free hand grasped his shoulder and she looked up at him with a small smile. "Do you know how to dance? I can teach you if you'd like. I won't bite that hard, promise." It wouldn't be Loire if she didn't tease him just a little, she hoped that it would lighten the mood.

Sapphira

Sapphira didn't cry. She was able to swallow everything that the world threw at her, she could grin and bear anything. The only other time she cried was when she graduated and left Dixie indefinitely, so crying right now felt silly to her. They'd all go home after this dance, they still had months left with each other. Somehow the idea of leaving and never seeing any of them, never seeing Larkyn, shook her to her core. It was so stupid! Sapphira knew she couldn't let herself get attached to anyone here, that she'd be heartbroken in the end like she was in school. It's just, she didn't have any friends that knew her for who she really was and that was Sapphira the fire witch. She liked not feeling guarded and on edge all of the time and that made everything worse. Larkyn was exactly right, it felt like her family hated her true self and it was an awful, awful feeling.

As she wiped her tears away she could hear Larkyn's calming voice from behind her and she felt embarrassed. He had no reason to apologize. "Don't be sorry." She sniffled quietly and tried to avoid looking at him, though the sadness stopped as soon as he wrapped his jacket around her shoulders. It was such a sweet, kind gesture that seemed to wash away all of her worries. Why was she stressing out so much about leaving already? She was still here, she still had time left.

"No, it's just my family drama and I didn't mean to unload it on you. I promise that you didn't overstep any boundary, really." The jacket was large on her thin frame, it was warm and it felt like a hug. It even faintly smelled like him. Gently she hugged the jacket and she found herself blushing like a schoolgirl, turning to face him with a smile. "I would really like it if we could get to know each other better, though I'm just a muggle and I'll probably bore you to sleep." I had the biggest crush on you in school, but thankfully she didn't say that. Hell, did she still have a crush on him? It was fine, so long as she didn't say anything he wouldn't know.

The moment was perfect, the night sky was clear and you could see every star in the sky, the weather was chilly but not too cold, and she was with her dream guy. "You know I think if we were friends in school you'd make me want to never leave." It was like her body moved on its own and before she knew it her soft red lips pressed a kiss to his cheek. Her whole face lit up as red as her hair when she realized what she had done. Maybe in another life they'd have been perfect for each other but that wasn't the world they lived in. “I-I, um, I’m sorry. I don’t know where that came from.”

Hunter

There was something about Dru. Of course she was beautiful, stunning really, but her mind was brilliant. They matched wits, she gave him a run for his money when they played cards. They were both interested in politics albeit they went about it differently, even still he admired the shit out of her for being in the ministry. She cared about her students having a good experience. She was a light in a dark, scary, shitty world. Was it so wrong of him to fall for her? Hunter was practically lost in her eyes while they flowed through the dance effortlessly, almost like time had frozen around him. God, that sounded corny didn't it?

Hearing her compliment caused his cheeks to heat slightly. Of course he looked nice but hearing her say it made him embarrassed, though he quickly blinked that away when she looked down. Did he say something to offend her? Oh, good fucking job Hunter! Quick, apologize you asshole. Before he could fumble with an apology she was speaking and he quickly closed his mouth. Her words touched him, they really did. He had shared her feelings at one point and he understood what she was saying, he had tried for so fucking long with Loire. "It's like our parents set us up for failure just because they had to, y'know? They don't care about our feelings at all. Don't feel like the failure at all, all right? They're the ones that failed to let us develop normal feelings and relationships."

Was he getting a little too fired up for this conversation? Probably, but it was true! "I tried for years and beat myself up every time Loire insulted me or turned me away, but when I accepted that it just wasn't meant to be I felt better. If I had to be in a platonic marriage then fine, that's that. But I don't feel like that anymore? I, I don't want that. You don't want to marry Larkyn. We just, we don't have to be stuck anymore, Dru. We're adults, let's put our foot down." There was a reason Hunter became a leader so quickly; he was fucking passionate when he got going, driven, and determined. "You want to be able to move on with your life, right? I'll figure it out for you. Then you'll be free to make your own decisions in life, find a partner that you want. We all will. They can't throw a wedding if we don't show up, right?"

The song ended and pop music began to play. All around them students began jumping and running back to the dance floor, and Hunter just stood there holding her hand and waist. "Here, let me walk you to the table and I'll grab you another glass of punch." Hunter finally let her go, his hand gently holding hers as they walked away from the dance floor.

Terran

Was it something he said? Yeah, probably. Should he apologize? For fucking sure, but he didn't know what? He had just been trying to talk to her, figure out what was wrong. It just... it seemed like it was more than her feeling a little run down, something deeper and far more personal. But she seemed like she was holding it in and that worried him, it was extremely unhealthy to bottle all that stress up. His job here was to assist her, right? That's what he was going to do, he was going to try to lighten the load on her shoulders.

She pulled from him, she snapped at him, and he felt bad. None of him was fake and he was truly being authentic, he worried for her. But explaining that wasn't his priority. So what she thought him a pretentious asshole? Her and Dru could form a club, but all he wanted was to just be there for her. That was a first for him, it was confusing as all hell, but he quickly found him moving after Dixie. "She's fine, I'll get it." Terran gave the students a small smile and wave to the students as he chased after her.

Dixie had a couple step lead on Terran so it was fairly easy to follow after her, though he hung back a little to give her the space she needed. Only, he froze when he turned the last corner to see her collapse to the floor to hug her knees. All he could do was smile gently at her and slide down the wall to sit next to her. "When my parents were first killed and I went to the orphanage I had panic attacks all the time. They sucked, I always felt alone because I had no one to comfort me. When I went to live with the old bird she would always just sit and tell me the most interesting stories I've ever done heard. I couldn't tell you anything about them, truth be told they were probably just simple, silly stories, but listening to her talk was the most encouraging thing. It made me feel not alone and got me through them."

He was quiet for a long moment. He wanted her to feel comfortable around him, not pressured. "Dixie I apologize if I seem insensitive or intrusive, that was never my intention. I promise I'm authentically worried for you, you do not have to talk about anything that's going on. Just... you are so important to so many people. You're valued, you're loved and admired. Keep it to yourself if that is your wish, I just wish you'd realize you're not alone in the world." There was another pause followed by a gentle smile. "Take as long as you need, I'll cover for you with the students." With that he rose to his feet and prepared to walk off of she didn't say anything.

Druella “Dru” Arville

Dru listened to him speak as they danced, her eyes widening a bit in realization. Hunter always seemed to brash, emotionally clumsy and kind of brazen. He was clearly intelligent even if she thought his allocation if his smarts was misused. But hearing him talk about this with so much passion was honestly quite shocking. It was surprising to hear that he had genuinely tried to make it work with Loire, especially when what she knew of him was quite the opposite when it came to that relationship. He was getting a bit fired up about the whole thing and it kind of stirred a strange emotion in Dru. She was not only sort of inspired by what he had to say but also touched. It felt nice to know someone else understood, that what was going on with her and Larkyn wasn’t something she had to go through alone.

“You’re right. I don’t want to.” Dru said it and while she knew it for a long time now, it felt suddenly real when it was said out loud. Larkyn would be a fine husband, he was a good friend. They would have moved through life getting along and been fairly successful simply based on perigee itself. But Dru wanted more, she wanted her career to be her own. She wanted her success to be because of her hard work, not her last name or her spouse. And dammit, she wanted to marry who she wanted to marry. “I- I’m not going to.” It was timid but it was still said. Her and Larkyn had been so lost on what to do but in reality it was so simple. They were adults. They didn’t have to listen to their parents.

The song stopped and Hunter escorted her off the floor. For the rest of the dance Dru found herself staying at the table besides Hunter, noting that literally everyone else in their household was missing. Leaving Dru and Hunter to spend the last hour of the evening covering for them.

Finally it was time to head back to the house, it was late and Dru felt exhausted but she still didn’t want the night to end. The last students had finally been shooed back to the dorms and the ballroom was transformed back to normal with the help of magic.

“Let’s walk the long way yeah?” Dru looked over at Hunter and swallowed before holding out her hand. “I don’t want to go to bed yet.”

Dixie

Dixie was such a bright bubbly and positive person, it had been so long since she had even gotten close to this dark place. Maybe that was why it hit so hard despite it feeling so small. Her parents never cared about her or what she did, her mother was embarrassed that her daughter wasn’t traditionally pretty like herself, embarrassed that she was “fat” despite her largest size only ever being a size 16. They didn’t like that she was nice to people and felt bad when her parents scammed people out of their money. They didn’t like that she was different from them… When she started to show magical ability and got invited to the school, they thought that meant they would make it big. They would never want for anything again. But that just wasn’t how her magic worked, how any magic worked. Even if it was, Dixie wouldn’t have done it.

So now hearing that her mother was trying to get her claws back into her was terrifying. While her mother had never been physically abusive like her father, her words were just as harmful.

Maybe that was where she got it… Dixie had been harsh with Terran and said things she didn’t mean. Lashed out because she was scared but still. Thankfully it didn’t seem to bother him too badly because shortly she felt someone sit down next to her followed by his calming voice. It made her sniffle more, keeping her face hidden in her arms. She listened as he spoke, touched by his words and story about his past. Terran had shared a little bit but not about how bad things truly were for him as well. She felt awful for him, she couldn’t imagine going through all that at a young age. Dixie had gone through her own share of terrible shit but they were different in ways.

Terran told her she was worthy and loved and not alone. That was when Dixie finally peered through her loose fallen hair, seeing Terran as he stood. Without thinking she reached out and grabbed the sleeve of his jacket. “Please don’t go. T-thank you. For saying all that. And I’m sorry, you didn’t deserve my anger. It’s not you I’m angry with. I promise… I just lashed out.”

Dixie picked herself up, still sniffling. “Can we go somewhere? And I’ll tell you what’s going on?”

-

Dixie took Terran back to the hebology class and greenhouse. Only this time she led him to the ladder that took them up to her loft, she knew she wasn’t supposed to be spending time here but it was her safe space. It was up there that Dixie sat in one of her hanging chairs and told Terran all about her childhood, about the letter and about the tracker. It was a lot for anyone, especially a friend that she had only made a few weeks sooner.

“That’s a lot. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t dump it all on you it’s just- you’re right. It felt good to tell someone.” Dixie was perched in the knotted macrame chair, her legs crossed and her arms hugging a plush sage green and yellow sunflower to her chest that usually had a home on her bed. “Obviously she can’t get to me here but if she’s in London she’s close enough to cause trouble for me or herself. I just don’t really know what to do.”

Cyrus

All Cyrus wanted to do was run, he wasn’t sure exactly where but anywhere but here seemed great. It was insanely embarrassing, to admit even that much. To admit that crush exisited, god he thought he might melt right there if he even thought about the fact that it wasn’t just a crush! He was insanely in love with Loire, and still fucking was! It wasn’t something he was willing to say. It felt like it would change everything, ruin it, scare her. But then she reacted in a way he didn’t expect. She wasn’t mad? She didn’t hit him? Or laugh? No Loire actually placed her hand over his and Cyrus felt his heart skip a beat.

“Oh-yeah. Yeah.” Cyrus could lightly hear the music, it was being drowned out by the sound of his heart beat in his ears. The two of them slowly swayed, he didn’t know how to dance well but it didn’t matter. It wasn’t about how well they moved. It was about being together. Cyrus was nervous, freaked out. He couldn’t function anything beyond just breathing. That was what led to finishing the bottle of firewhiskey.

The two of them danced even longer than the music played, they finished the bottle, the laughed. Then finally it was like both of them realized it was time to head home. They did so in silence, it wasn’t uncomfortable though. They walked side by side, hand in hand. Even when they go back to the house Cyrus took Loire all the way back to her room, pausing at the door.

“Loire, I-“ Cyrus sighed, he wanted to tell her everything but he couldn’t. But- it didn’t stop him from moving a piece of her white locks behind her ear. Then he leaned in, his free hand tucking under her chin and tilting her face up. Cyrus leaned in and before his brain could stop him, his lips pressing to hers softly. He held there for a moment before finally pulling away. “G-good night.” He walked away before she could say something. Cyrus found his way quickly out of the house and into the cool night air, trying to run away from the scary choice he had just made.

Cyrus never could have imagined that after heading outside, he would be escorted to the main building to meet with aurors. Then swiftly shackled and taken to town to await trial for a crime he didn’t commit.

Loire

The night felt like a dream. To just spend time with Cyrus again in their own little world again, away from the distractions and the drama, it made her think that they could actually make it despite everything that was wrong with her. But... Loire wasn't a fool. She knew that the night was just that and their situation didn't change at all. Her magic was emotionally charged and Cyrus made her so emotional that it was only going to end one way, and the thought of hurting him killed her little black heart. She wouldn't do that to him, not now and not ever.

It had gotten late, they had a good bottle of drink in them, and in the end they walked back together hand and hand. She didn't think anything of him walking her to her room, Loire had warned him that she'd do nothing but hurt him in the end so she thought that he understood? He had an effect over her that no one had had before though, instead of pulling away or withdrawing from his touch she felt her heart beating out of her chest. This was exactly how she felt when she kissed him all those years ago, the world was drowned out and it was just the two of them. There was a bit of an internal argument with herself on whether to do the right thing and pull away, but the part of her that loved him won and she leaned into the kiss.

Just as she did that, however, he pulled away and quickly excused himself. Did that really happen? She just stood there baffled for a minute and touched her lips, smiling to herself for a minute and then calling it a night.

--

That night she slept, well, good for the first time in ever. He shared her feelings on some level, right? She had to find some way to make him realize that she wasn't good for him, but for now she could just allow herself a little bit of happiness. Just for a night, because in the morning they found out that Cyrus had never come back in that night. The first thought was that he ran away again and that it was her fault this time. She was so angry, but once the anger cleared up she remembered that he was happy last night, that he wouldn't have just left like that. At least she hoped he wouldn't.

So she hounded Larkyn to find out what happened to him. After he refused so many times ('I'm sure he's fine Loire', he was ridiculous) she decided to say fine, she'd do it herself. She donned her coat with a 'hope I don't get sick out there', and just as she was about to leave he caved and said he'd look into it. Played him like a fiddle she did, he was always a sucker for that line. Whatever it took to find Cyrus.

"Well I'm disappointed you didn't find him, your nose is off and he didn't just leave." Loire was arguing with the large black and white cat as she paced the living room floor. Larkyn was taking his sweet fucking time with his research and Loire was quickly losing patience again. She needed to get out there and look for him, what if he was hurt? It was not good that she Loire was this nervous but she just couldn't fucking help it.

Lucky for Maximus Larkyn came walking in the living room, though she could tell that whatever he had to say wasn't good. And oh boy, she was right.

Terran

For some reason or another the way Dixie grabbed his sleeve, the sadness in her voice, it made his heart flutter in forever he found himself speechless. He followed her back to the greenhouse quietly and sat in the hanging chair opposite of hers. He knew they weren't supposed to spend time there but, really, who was going to tell? As she spoke he patiently listened to every word she spoke. Her (unique to say the least) childhood, the letter from her mother, and having her tracked down. Thankfully Terran's own life had been messy at one point, and so taking it all in at once wasn't an issue for him.

"It's a lot for one person to bear, don't be sorry. I'm just grateful you were able to get some of that off your chest." Terran could see physically that she felt a little better and that alone made this worth it. He didn't want her to feel alone, Terran was a lone wolf by choice and even he could tell you it was miserable sometimes. Nobody to really talk to, no one to share feelings with... it was a lonely existence. That sparked an idea in his head. "Miss Dixie if I may, would you join me on an outing tomorrow?" He wouldn't tell her where to or what for quite yet, he feared that she would reject the idea almost instantly. But if they were already in the same town as her mother, well then she might be ever so inclined to visit. Maybe, maybe not, but it was worth a shot.

Terran stood and offered her his arm once they realized how late it was. They walked home and just enjoyed the crisp night air in the company of each other, and by the time they got home everyone was mostly asleep. After escorting her to her room he told her to be ready bright and early, and that he would swing by to get her when the preparations were complete.

That night Terran stayed up later than usual. Thankfully he had an abundance of floo powder (that was his preferred way of travel) so that wasn't a problem, but it was the other preparations he had to make. He wanted to make sure everything went over as well as possible. As soon as the sun began to rise Terran had dressed in a light green sweater and black slacks, he had placed a note in the kitchen for Loire to tell them they'd be gone all day, and he retrieved Dixie for their surprise day.

After throwing some floo powder in the fireplace they were able to quickly travel to a London potions shop. "Today we're going to see big ben, the london eye, and possibly your mother." Terran said it like it was something casual, though he knew that it would take her by surprise. Still, they were already here. The worst she can do is say no.

Hunter

It was like a weight off of his shoulders hearing Dru say that she wasn't going to marry Larky. When did this topic make him so tense? They were the perfect couple on first glance; both of powerful pureblood family, both well mannered and seemingly put together. In reality though they were two completely different people and wanted different things in life, and he was happy at the idea of them gaining their independence from their family. Hunter never felt better than when he left his life as Drake and started his life as Hunter, and while he never expected for anyone to quite go as bold as leave their names he was proud at any and all steps they took. This was a huge fucking step and he couldn't be anymore proud, or relieved.

The end of the night came far sooner than he'd like, but thanks to Dru's suggestion it didn't have to end there. After the cleanup (where the fuck did everyone go?) they walked the long way around the school to enjoy the quiet night. Unlike big cities, the island wasn't very well lit at night. They had torches, some glowing lights but that was it. They were able to see the night sky full of bright stars, the waxing gibbous moon, and the occasional flicker of a glow bug. The breeze was gentle but not too cold, and the company alone made the night perfect.

Hunter felt similar to Dru, he didn't want the night end. By the time they neared the stoop of their creepy Victorian home he had worked up the courage to ask Dru if she wanted to spend the day together tomorrow. His heart was in his throat the whole time but she agreed to join him. Fuck yeah. After he escorted her to her room he told her they would leave in the morning, and with that the giddy Hunter returned to his room for a night of planning.

He stayed up all night and he didn't even really notice the lack of Cyrus? There was too much planning to be done. He showered and planned a whole day of going around town to visit the sights that most people didn't get to see, at least things he didn't get to see until he left his family. Hunter threw on a white t-shirt that hugged his toned figure, his favorite black leather jacket, and some black jeans before heading to breakfast. Loire asked about Cyrus, he said he didn't come home last night and she seemed bothered. Whatever, not his problem.

So Dru and him got on the first ferry to town. He was... nervous? Why would he be so nervous about being out with her? All he wanted was to make sure she had a good day, unlike her last outing. Hunter would be sure not to leave her side again. "You, uh, look wonderful today. I'm excited for today. Is there anything specific you'd like to do or are you completely trusting me with today's activities?" As they departed the ferry Hunter held the small gate open for her. Was he sweating he was so nervous? So, so stupid. He was just having a fun day with Dru, there was no reason to be this nervous.

Cyrus

Of course nothing good could happen for him, Cyrus had been trying to get everyone to realize that for a long time now. It was like he was cursed. For once he let loose, allowed himself to be a little selfish. A little brave. He kissed her. It wasn’t like it hadn’t happened before but he had been so scared to ever go there again. Of course, the night he chose to have a little faith in himself, everything went to shit fast.

After walking Loire to her room and then swiftly running away like a love struck teenager, Cyrus went outside to cool off. He had been walking around the paths on the grounds aimlessly for about ten minutes when the Headmistresses assistant found him and told him he needed to come to her office at once. It was there that he was told another attack had happened that evening, right in the middle of town. There were no witnesses, it was after all the shops and bars had closed and very few people were out on the streets. But aurors did find a trail of blood that lead them in the direction of his father. The Headmistress only wanted to make Cyrus aware but did suggest he may want to go see what was going on, allowed him all the time he would need. So he left, didn’t even pack a bag for a few days or anything. Cyrus couldn’t even think straight.

It was on the long broom ride across that Cyrus came up with his twisted plan… he would say it had been him. Of course there would be no evidence of that beyond confession so it would be easy to talk himself out of later. But in the time they looked into Cyrus, his father could find a way to prove his innocence as well. His father was a fuck up but he wasn’t a murderer.

-

The next morning Cyrus woke up on the thin mattress in the cold holding cell in town. The moment he arrived he marched there and gave his confession, demanding they let his father out and that the man had just tried to cover for Cyrus. The auror seemed, well honestly he seemed like he didn’t believe it but after some discussion his father was released with the knowledge that he was still a potential suspect and Cyrus took over his place in the cell.

Holding cells weren’t strange to him, he had been in many. This was the first time for murder. All he could think about though was Loire, their kiss the night before, how she didn’t push him away or cry or scream. It was why he was sitting here now, the curse he was convinced he has. Cyrus had one of the best nights of his life so now the universe was punishing him with the worst day.

Larkyn

The rest of Larkyns night had been fairly uneventful after he and Sapphira returned to the house. It appeared as if they were the first two back so Larkyn made them a cup of tea to sip before heading to bed. It was pleasant and calm, there was no need to entertain themselves or sustain an uncomfortable silence. It was just easy, they could just enjoy each others company. They had shared a lot with one another in the last couple of hours so it was good to just let it sit for a little bit. Before Larkyn excused himself to go to bed, he made sure to remind her of their flying lesson tomorrow and made his way to bed.

That was when things got more interesting. Not really in all reality. It was more like when Larkyn started to literally panic? The entire time he had been playing it cook about the kiss on his cheek, trying to play the gentleman and be calm as always. But he was losing it, his heart was pounding out of his chest and he wasn’t sure if he liked it or hated it. It was different, he thinks he liked it. It wasn’t that someone had never kissed his cheek, actually… outside of family no. Dru and him had been together forever but every hug or kiss was so painfully awkward that they typically stuck to the required amount of PDA and that was close to it. This didn’t feel like that…

-
The next morning Larkyn was planning on sleeping in but clearly his sister had other plans. He was woken up to her barging into his room and rambling something about Cyrus for a while. It took him a long while to catch onto what was happening but when he finally did he tried to convince her it was more than likely fine. Knowing Cyrus he probably just wandered off and would be back at some point later that day. Loire of course refused to take that as an answer and quite literally forced Larkyn out to door to go find him. Larkyn knew that it wasn’t worth arguing with her when she was in these types of moods, it was better just to roll with it.

The first person Larkyn went to was the headmistress, and oh boy was he in for a treat. Apparently something had happened, it wasn’t good but at least it wasn’t Cyrus who was in trouble right? It was his dad. That was good? He supposed. At least he had something to go back and tell Loire.

However on the way back to the house Larkyn received a letter via owl from an auror friend in town, explaining the rest of the current situation. That made things much different and MUCH worse. There was no way Cyrus could have done anything last night, they were all at the dance and even if they hadn’t been, Cyrus wouldn’t do that sort of thing. Now came the part of proving that to others.

Larkyn returned to the house, tossing the letter on the table in front of his sister with a raised brow. “When you two left the dance last night, you didn’t sneak over to the village right? Please tell me the both of you were on the island all night and that I won’t have a hell of a time trying to fix whatever stupid idea Cyrus has gotten himself into .”

Dixie

Dixie had never shared information about her family with anyone in the magical world. Sapphira knew some, just that they were human and had a bad relationship due to abuse but Dixie never got into specifics. Mostly she could handle the terrible things they said and did to her, the embarrassment of no real friends, the habits her parents fell into. What she was so ashamed of was them trying and wanting to take advantage of the magical world. It was magic that made Dixie who she was and allowed her for the first time in her life to be somewhere that she was safe and loved and they wanted to take advantage. It hurt her so badly.

Terran listened, openly and without judgement. It felt so good to have someone do that, to just allow her to get it all out. Dixie hadn’t realized how badly she needed that until now. “An outing?” Dixie finally stopped sniffling, looking up at him and smiling gently. “Well it is the weekend I suppose. It will be nice.”

-

Dixie woke up the next morning with slightly puffy eyes from all the crying but beyond that she was in fairly good spirits. After a quick shower and feeding Turtle, she got ready for the day. Dixie wore a mustard yellow cardigan over a tea length smock dress in burnt orange that had all sorts of different patches in earthy tones. Her shoes were simple cream flats that matched the ribbon that tied her wild hair back into a messy bun. It was a day for being cozy for sure.

“So where are we going?” Dixie shuffled through her purse, making sure she remembered her wand and other essentials. Terran was preparing the fireplace with floo powder and then he gave her his answer. He said it so nonchalantly that at first she nearly told him it sounded nice. Then it hit her. Dixie whipped her head around and looked at him like he was crazy, “W-what do you mean?” She wasn’t ready to see that woman, not today. Not any day. It wasn’t going to go well? Right? I mean there was no way for it to go well.

Dixie stared at him for a while as she fought herself mentally. Maybe it would be better to go to her, if she got all the way to London she was on the right track and Dixie would rather shut this all down before she even got close to the village. It was all magical folk there but the closest muggle village was still fairly close to the school. “Fine. But, I want to see her first. From afar. Then decide… and if I go talk to her you HAVE to stay close, I can’t be alone with her. AND if I talk to her we’re getting ice cream after or something I swear.”

Druella “Dru” Arville

If anyone had ever told Dru when she was younger that she would be going to bed thinking about Drake Devereau, she would have literally thrown up and called them psychotic. Now? Hah. She kind of felt the same. Only he was Hunter now and while he was still nearly insufferable, he was also the person that was consuming her thoughts as of late. She hated it. She hated that seeing his happiness at her denouncing her engagement made her stomach do little flips. She hated that they danced. She hated that he complimented her and kept her engaged in good conversations and challenged her way of thinking. It all made her feel so giddy and it was disgusting. Most of all Dru hated that despite how resistant to it all she was, despite how much she told herself she really did hate all those things, she still couldn’t say no to his offer to spend the day together. Hell, she was even excited. Awful.

The next morning Dru woke up and got ready for the day. At first she thought that Hunter simply meant that he wanted to hang out like normal, cards and maybe some grading. An argument or two. However when she came downstairs and found him dressed and ready to go, Dru realized she should probably change out of her oversized sweater and linen pants. Quickly she ran upstairs and changed into a simple white sweater dress that reached her knees. Under it she wore a pair of black tights and a pair of knee high brown leather boots that matched the tone of the large pea coat she pulled on over top. A pearl headband was tucked into her short black hair and after a quick swipe of makeup she was headed back downstairs.

“Thank you. I’m glad I realized I should change before it was too late.” Dru chuckled, crossing one leg over the other as she looked over at him. “I really thought you just wanted to play cards or something like normal. So this is a nice change of pace.” She smiled slightly, her head turning to look at the shore as they neared the dock for the ferry. He mentioned the plan and she shrugged as they walked, giving him a little bow as she walked through the gate he held open for her.

“Well, it’s been a long time since I’ve been here. I don’t really remember a lot, my parents weren’t fond of me staying at the school over breaks and thought the field trips were better spent studying. I only got to come once or twice…” Dru trailed off, looking around a bit before a thought dawned on her, she turned back towards him with a bit of a blush. “There used to be this really cool potions shop near by I’ve always wanted to go to. Besides that I have absolutely no requests beyond you taking the reigns. Does that work?” Dru refused to admit that the reason she wanted to go was because all the girls in school always told her that they sold Amorentia, it wasn’t allowed to be brewed at school in potions class because of how easily misused it would be in teenagers hands but she had to admit she was always curious.

Loire

Maybe jail was the best place for Cyrus, because as soon as her blue eyes scanned over the letter her pale face went instantly red with anger. She was going to kill him. What was he doing confessing to a fucking murder? "Of course we were on the island all night, and I was with him until midnight. I have no clue what he's up to. Just- let's get him out of there. Please." Loire was fuming mad at Cyrus right now but there was no way she'd let him stay there longer than necessary. "Come on. We're going to get him." Loire left absolutely no room for protests as she stood up and threw her black jacket on.

Sapphira was coming with them for some reason (since when did her and Larkyn hang out? Whatever. Not her business.) which worked out because they'd need at least two brooms anyway to bring dumb ass home. They three of them traveled to the small jail house, parked their brooms, and then went on inside. Sapphira and Loire waited in the waiting room as Larkyn went back to get Cyrus released to him under house arrest. If his plan worked then great, they'd get Cyrus home and then they could figure out what the fuck was happening with his brain.

Every minute felt like an hour and it was driving her crazy. Was kissing her so bad that he'd rather confess to murder than use her as an alibi? The thought made her make her feel sick to her stomach. No, knowing Cyrus he was just being stupid and protecting his father. Loire couldn't understand the sentiment. It was then that Cyrus finally came out to the waiting room and she didn't want to hit him, she was overwhelmed with a feeling of relief. "I-" Loire felt like crying? It was so, so stupid to her. Loire stood to her feet and approached him, her pale hands cupping his face so her bright eyes looking him over slowly for wounds or injuries. "Well, you don't look concussed. Guess you just developed a memory problem that made you forget who you were with last night, right?"

He already had a bad enough night, he knew she was angry with him and there was no reason to make a scene here. Her hands dropped from his face and moved to grasp hold of his hand. "Come on. Let's go home." It was hard for Loire to stay mad at him wen all she could think about was resting her head on his chest while they danced, or the burnt letters in their hideout, or their sweet, simple kiss. She just wanted to get his stupid ass home and figure out what was going on.

Sapphira

After last night Sapphira realized maybe it was time to get over her silly school girl crush she had on Larkyn. He played the kiss off like it was nothing and it kind of hurt? It made her realize that this just maybe wasn't a crush at this point? And it seemed that he didn't return her feelings, that she was just a good friend. She was happy with that, she really was! But... Sapphira had to get over him to have a good future as his friend. So when he mentioned their flying adventure she felt her heart flutter. Larkyn and her came from two different worlds and it was silly to dream of a future between them, she just had to remember that. He was going to find some nice, magical girl that would support him and make him happy. Sapphira would... well, she was still figuring that.

Dixie was the only person who knew of how she felt so she was going to ask her for advice, however bright and early her best friend and roommate took off on some excursion. They'd sit down later hopefully and catch up. In the meantime she was trying to calm a frantic Loire down? Not how she wanted to spend the day, but hey, it was pretty interesting. Cyrus had been arrested for some reason or another (these guys got into way too much trouble, hence why they were all in that house to begin with) and Sapphira thought it'd be a good idea to come with, to hopefully help keep everyone as calm as possible.

She shouldn't have tagged along. It didn't seem like Loire wanted to ride with her which left her riding with Larkyn again. Being close to him was not what she needed right now, her heart felt like it was going to beat out of her chest the entire time. Thankfully she had time to cool down in the waiting room with Loire.

Finally Larkyn walked out into the waiting room with Cyrus and she couldn't help but smile sweetly at him. "Oh, um, we can drop them off at home and meet with the headmistress?" Did she just say we? Oh, Jesus Sapphira pull yourself together. "I-, what I mean is we can cancel our plans so you can go and take care of things, I'll make sure to brew you up some tea when you come home."

Terran

Having people who should care for you and love you unconditionally was important to people, that's what parents were supposed to be for. Terran didn't have a traditional upbringing, he didn't have traditional parents, but he was loved. Life before that was dull, now he lived his life to feel love and adventure. He... wanted the same for Dixie. He wanted her to feel love, he wanted her to live for herself and not have to fear these shadows in her life. Her mother searching for the school and her would weigh on her greatly and he had to help her fix this, and this really was the only solution he could come up with.

Thankfully Dixie didn't seem to instantly turn him down. It took her a minute but she was actually on board, and he felt relieved. That was step one. Either this went good or terrible, he didn't see things in the middle but he hoped things went well. "I promise you I'll be by your side the whole time, you won't be alone with her Dixie." Terran's large hand gently grabbed hold of hers and gave a reassuring squeeze. The feeling in his chest with supporting her was different, he wasn't used to it and it was really confusing. All he knew was that supporting Dixie was making him feel overjoyed.

Once Dixie gave him the address of her work Terran was off, her hand still in his as they bravely wandered the large city. The restaurant wasn't one he was familiar with, thankfully he was familiar with the area. It didn't take them long to walk into the small diner, Terran's bright green eyes landing on a waitress and he knew just from the face that it was Dixie's mother. It was a small seat yourself diner so he quickly pulled out a chair for Dixie at a table close to the exit for a quick escape if they needed one. "Be brave, I'm here for you every step of the way." After she sat in her seat he pushed in her chair gently for him before sitting across from her. "You're a strong, independent woman and you deserve nothing but happiness, love, and support."

Terran didn't do emotional relationships, but Dixie was worth supporting. He wanted to be the one to cheer her on, and he was thankful that she was letting him. "Madame, bonjour." He gave a small, polite smile as the older woman approached the table.

Hunter

Drake Devereau was a spoiled brat that got whatever he wanted, when he wanted it, no matter the cost. His parents bought his love and excepted him to walk in his footsteps and over the years he became a cocky asshole that wanted the exact opposite of what they stood for. He dropped that name, he dropped that existence to become a person that fought for others. He was proud of that, and he was even more proud currently that it got him the chance to be here with Dru. Hunter wanted freeze the moment and all the happiness he was feeling presently. Dru looked good even just in the pants and sweater but now she just looked amazing. It was making his heart beat nervously.

"You outshine everyone in any outfit, but especially this. You're truly a blinding light." Coming from a guy who could literally control light and dark that had to be a compliment... if only she knew. Would she think he was a freak? Hunter gave a small chuckle as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder as they began to head into town. It was still bright and early on a Saturday and the ferry wasn't exactly packed at this hour, though in a few hours he knew the village would be busting. "Don't know if you know this or not babe but I like to keep you on your toes." Hunter found himself pausing for a minute. Babe? His face lit up a crimson red and he quickly cleared his throat. Where did that come from?

Thankfully she got talking about the potion shop and he was quick to nod. "That works fine. Let's go visit your nerd shop, it should be right around here." Hunter shook off all his worries and shone her his biggest smile. He gently took her hand and walked off to the potions shop. Hunter knew of the place she was talking about and as much as he didn't use potions he had found himself a customer a time or two, he couldn't believe that she hadn't been there before. Well, he knew why, but he was at least glad that he could be the one to go with her for her first time.

The store had a wide range of ingredients, from fangs, brains, vials with mucous, to dried dung. They also, of course, sold amorentia, though Hunter didn't know anything about it. "Now are we looking for anything specific?"

Druella “Dru” Arville

Blinding light. Babe…. Nerd?! The first two comments nearly made her feel ready to faint but when the nerd word came out of his mouth Dru sobered up and found herself turning and glaring at him. Despite the killer look behind her eyes she still had a slight smile playing at the corners of her mouth. That was one of the things she liked about him so much, they could poke fun at each other and it didn’t hurt, it was actually kind of endearing. “I’ve never been called so many things in the span of a few seconds. I-thanks? I think?” Dru chuckled and went to come up with her own backhanded compliment only she was stunned silent by him taking her hand.

“You know, you’re awfully affectionate for being such a hard ass.” Dru spoke it quietly as they made their way towards the shop. Something about this all felt, nice? It was just spending the day, it wasn’t some big event or some fancy place. It was just going to a potion shop, at least for now. It sounded like he had more in store and she was honestly really excited. It was rare that she got to do the things she truly enjoyed, let loose and had fun.

“Oh uh, kind of I guess.” Dru was embarrassed to admit what she was really looking for but it wasn’t like he wouldn’t find out. She kept quiet for a while, slowly looking around and taking it all in. The place was beautiful, it had a dark and moody vibe but still felt cozy and warm. There was such an insane range of supplies and some of it was things she had only read about before. Along another wall there were some more commercialized displays of potions that were more mass producers and sold. Different medicines and such. Of course, the most obnoxious display of all was the thing she was looking for. “The school never let us make it, which of course always made me naturally curious. Everyone else would come back from field trips and such and rave about everything, and of course the girls always ended up gossiping on what amorentia smelled like to them.”

Dru plucked a bottle from the wispy pink shelf and turned around to face Hunter, shaking it slightly in his face. “It’s childish yeah but oh well. I never truly understood why we couldn’t make it, it’s not like it actually creates love and it will either wear off or the antidote is fairly simple to brew. The real charm to it is really the whole fragrance aspect.” She hummed, moving past him to browse a bit more, gathering some things for herself as well as some items she felt would be interesting for her more advanced classes before heading to the checkout. Dru handed over some coin to the shop keeper and soon the two of them were on the way outside.

“So, have you ever been one to fall victim to the curiosity?” Dru reached into the small shopping bag as the walked down the alley. She pulled out the small heart shaped vial and turned it over in her hand a few times. In the past Dru wanted to get her hands on the stuff to confirm she loved Larkyn, that she was attracted to him and that she just had a misunderstanding of love. But ever since their conversation, Dru was now just- lost. Confused. Curious. She knew it wasn’t some answer to everything, it may not even answer one question but… she still wanted to know.

Dru twisted off the cork and pulled it closer to her face, wafting it slowly and trying to decipher what she could smell. Whiskey. Sage. Leather… It all reminded her of something, something she didn’t fully want to admit so she snapped the cork back on top and tried to change the subject. “So what’s next in your big plans? What’s going to keep me on my toes next?”

Dixie

This was going to be awful. Dixie knew it. The entire time her heart was beating out of her chest and her body was literally shaking. Even with Terran by her side she felt small, she felt like she used to growing up and she didn’t like it. Every bit of her life growing up had been about learning to love herself and overcoming generational trauma. Honestly Dixie thought she would be able to handle this sort of thing better by now but she supposed not.

The two of them traveled via floo powder and found themselves in London, nearby Diagon Alley. From there it wasn’t too far of a walk to where the muggle and magical world collided. Thankfully Terran seemed fairly familiar with the city and they were able to find the diner without much trouble. Going inside of the diner was another thing. From the sidewalk Dixie could see her through the windows. The woman was working, running around handing out food and taking orders. She was smiling, she looked healthy, she looked clean. Part of it felt like Dixie was literally looking at a dream, this was the type of thing she would literally fantasize about as a child. Having a normal mom.
Normal parents. Nice parents. Dixie felt like walking through those doors threatened shattering the image but she forced herself inside anyways.

Terran found them a table and pulled out the chair for her, “Thanks..” Dixie spoke meekly and turned her attention to the menu. Even though she was looking at it and trying to read, her mind was completely overwhelmed with so many other thoughts. Thankfully Terran spoke up and Dixie was able to shake free from the prison w was her mind currently. His words made her feel a bit stronger, lifted her spirits a bit. He was so sweet, kind, supportive. There wasn’t many people in the world that would go through something like this with someone and Dixie was glad to know he was one of them, now she had two good friends in this world.

“Ah-“ Dixie couldn’t form words as her mother approached the table. Her flight or fight screamed run but she couldn’t move, she just sat there wide eyed and staring at the woman staring back at her with a similar shocked expression. It took her a few seconds and then suddenly Dixie felt warm warms tossed around her shoulders and could feel the woman tuck her face into Dixie’s neck as she started to cry. First there was shock. Then more shock. And finally Dixie felt herself begin to cry as well, her arms moving around the woman weakly. “Mom?”

“Oh my sweet heavens girl do you know how much I missed you?” Della sobbed into her daughters shoulder and squeezed her tighter. It wasn’t a lie thag she missed her, she truly did. Della loved Dixie even if her daughter didn’t believe it, she just loved in her own way. “I can’t believe you came in here. Oh lord in heaven thank you.” She finally pulled away and wiped away her tears on her sleeve. “Oh Dixie-pie we have so much to talk about. I’m about to take my lunch, how about I join you and -“ it was the first time she really noticed the man who had spoken to her. “This girly lookin man with the funny accent.”

Cyrus

The guard that had been watching Cyrus let him know that Larkyn was on the way. Great. Cyrus knew he would only get a little bit of peace before this all started to go wild but he didn’t expect it to happen this early. He wasn’t an idiot, he was completely prepared for a Larkyn to be pissed and not understand. Hell, he was sure that Loire would be even more pissed, it didn’t change the fact that he had a promise to keep. His dad was a fuck up, he was a mess and he did a lot of stupid shit, but he didn’t kill someone and Cyrus wouldn’t let this allegation ruin the family he worked so hard to keep together. Even if it was held together by a thin thread to begin with.

It wasn’t long after being told Larkyn was on the way that he appeared. Only he brought guests… which is something Cyrus should have honestly expected. Thankfully it was only Larkyn that came back to talk with him and the other auror but still, Cyrus knew the wrath was coming soon. Apparently a deal was struck to allow Cyrus to return to the house provided he was always watched until more information either cleared him or condemned him. That was fine, they wouldn’t find any evidence of him or his father committing murder. “Larkyn I’m telling you- I have a plan. I promise.” Cyrus tried his best to reason with angry twin number one as they left the holding area and found Sapphira along with angry twin number two. Or should she be one with how pissed she looked?

Cyrus didn’t say anything, he waited for Loire to go first. He was positive that anything he said would start a rant from her so might as well just wait until it was over. Only… she didn’t? Loire approached him and at first Cyrus prepared for a slap he probably deserved, instead she held his face between her hands and pulled him in close causing him to go beet red. Then the ridicule came and made Cyrus feel a bit more normal. “Loire- I know where I was last night. Trust me. That’s why my plan is so genius even if you and your brother don’t get it!” She let him go and Cyrus was able to stand to his full height once more. Before she began to walk away she took his hand and the whole crew made their way back towards the docks and eventually the island.

“Loire I promise, it’s going to be fine.” The two of them were back at the house, seemingly alone since Larkyn and Sapphira went off to handle something and the others were who knows where. “I was with you all night then went straight there once the guy was already dead. There is literally no way they could get this back on me except the confession okay? I just needed to buy some time to prove my dad didn’t do it.” Cyrus was trying hard to get her to see his side of things, “He wouldn’t kill someone. He would do a thousand other shitty things but not murder.” The two of them were sitting at the kitchen table and Cyrus leaned across to gently place his hands over hers, “I told you I would be around more yeah? I meant that. I don’t break promises. I can’t exactly come around if I’m locked up in Azkaban right? Plus come on. You have to admit you’ve seen me pull off some dumb shit before.”
