In order to ensure peace between two feuding kingdoms a princess is arranged to be married to the prince of her rival kingdom. When She then goes to travel to her soon to be husband's kingdom to meet him for the first time her carriage is attacked leaving her stranded in the middle of no where with only her guard. It is then up to her guard to deliver the princess safely to the prince's kingdom . The only problem is things don't always happen as they should.

Bandits, why did it have to be bandits? It was almost an insult to his military rank but then again, so was the whole guards business as well, not that he minded being the guard of the princess, not at all.

He had been riding on the back of the carriage, even if the driver had insisted on him joining inside with the princess. There was no possibly way for him to see as much of their surrounding from inside the bumbling boat with wheels that sometimes made him feel extremely seasick. In fact, as long as he stayed, holding a firm grip of the back wall and keeping himself close to the roof, he could see anything, it was therefore why he had noticed the bandits before they had come close enough to do any damage, of course that meant nothing. All Jonathan could do was to mentally prepare for the battle a head - if he could even call it a battle - seeing as the King had refused to equip him with a bow, an assassins weapon. It was ridiculous and a poor excuse from a man who wanted him to risk his life for the daughter of the throne.

No matter, he simply had to watch as the bandits arrows cut through the air and murdered not only the horse but also the man driving the carriage. "Stay inside, milady." Jonathan quickly sad as he tried his very best to keep the carriage from falling off the road before jumping off it, unsheathing his two blades. This was going to be easy, and it was. He managed to cut every bandit that hurried for him don before they could even touch him, he was even so skillful that he managed to unharmed their horses, in a hope that he could take one of them to get the princess to the Prince's kingdom before nightfall.

He dodged and he jumped, swung his body from site to side and seemed to be carrying out a very difficult dance, the way his feet quickly moved over the ground below him. It was all a big insult to his medals. Never had he have thought that he would be slaughtering bandits - cleanly cutting them open and killing them on the spot - after the war had ended.

When the battled was calm and he no longer could see more enemies coming for them he quickly turned, his hair slashing the wind as he hurried towards the carriage. "Milady, are you alright? You may come out now, I have taken care of the problem." With only a spatter of blood upon his person.

Madelyn had her nose buried in a book as her carriage bumped across the dirt path bringing her towards her new future. For a while she had watched excitedly out the side window of her carriage. She was overjoyed to finally see what was outside of her kingdom, but she had only been able to watch so many tree trunks pass before she was completely bored out of her mind. So she turned to her book, her usual source of entertainment. Once her attention was put on the pages of the book she seemed to completely forget the world around her, which was probably for the best.

She was on her way to meet her future husband, and she was a little less than thrilled. She didn't even know the man and yet she was being married off to him without a second thought. The only reason she had agreed to do it was because it would finally put a rest to the feuding between their kingdoms, but just because she had agreed didn't make her anymore happy about it.

If nothing else, at least one good thing was coming from the marriage. She was finally able to leave the castle her parents had kept her cooped up in her whole life. They were so afraid of her getting hurt, or being taken that they kept her inside a very large, and admittedly nice, cage. Even if it was the nicest place to be kept it still didn't change the fact it was a cage. She was just happy to be free of it for a little while, even if she still had to be accompanied by a guard... She desperately wanted to go roaming free, abandoning her journey to the prince's kingdom, and without the supervision of a guard, but alas that was not possible. So being unable to physically wander she let her mind do the wandering instead as she got wrapped up inside the world of her book.

She was then pulled out of the world of her book when her carriage then came to an abrupt stop, nearly throwing her out of her seat, and was soon followed by her guard, Jonathan, warning her to stay put. "What? What's happening?" She asked concerned as she looked out from the window but all she saw was Jonathan going running off with two swords in his hand, which only worried her more. Hurriedly she worded the get the door of the carriage open so that she could get out. Obviously something bad was happening and she was not just going to sit back quietly, but by the time she had managed to get the door open and jump to the ground it seemed like everything was over for the most part.

All she could see was the aftermath. Luckily most of disturbing things were too far off for her to see but when her eyes caught sight of her dead horse and carriage driver they went wide in shock and despair. She quickly drew her eyes away not being able to bear the site any longer. How had this happened? she wondered they had just been peacefully traveling along and now half of their party was dead.

When Jonathan then came back announcing that everything was safe now she frowned she her face went pale at the sight of blood on him. "Who did this?" She asked trying to make sense of the situation. Suddenly she realized without the carriage how were they going to get anywhere? She hadn't the slightest clue where she was and she sure hoped that he did.

Jonathan didn't respond to the Princess question, but then: he never did. She important yes, his job was to protect her yes, but that didn't mean he had to share any vital information to her, especially not if it had something to do with them who tried to rob them blind, and probably kill them to.

He grabbed a horse which clearly was trying to run off and lead it towards the princess. "Your Highness will ride this to the next kingdom, we will stay unnoticed and off the road." It was going to be a longer journey, yes, but it was necessary to stay out of any kind of trouble especially trouble involving bandits. They were like a medieval plague, unpleasant and there was no cure against them but death. Jonathan would help the princess up the horse and then lead the beast, not riding with her as that would redeem very improper. The King would not allow it and the idiotic Prince would enjoy it even less than the father.

Jonathan knew the route like the back of his hand, he had however the need of looking around, holding the horse's reins as he walked forward and off the road, keeping his head held high. It was important indeed that he knew exactly where they were going, he knew which way they had gone and he also knew that the castle they were meant to reach lay in the South, easy enough information to go on, to be honest, but the man always wanted to make sure and sure he was.

Jonathan pointed with a long and gloved finger towards a mountain range. "We will travel south west and walk around the mountain." If they were unlucky they would run into the worst enemy for a traveler, Dragons. Jonathan had only slain a Dragon once in his life and it had been a tamed one. Highly illogical that such a creature would be weaker off in the wilds, where it lives on its own terms. Of course, this was another piece of information that he kept away from the Queen.

Madelyn was nothing short of annoyed when he blantaly ignored her questions. How dare he? She was in all respects a higher status than him. He couldn't just refuse to tell her things that obviously affected her. When he then told her what she was going to do instead of asking her it only put her in an even worse of a mood. "Are you really going to ignore my questions and tell me what I'm supposed to do like that?" She asked her eyes narrowing on him.

Despite being extremely unhappy with him, she did as she was directed and climbed on top of the horse sitting side saddle. She was dreading this trip even more now what she had to spend it alone with him and on the back a horse rather than seated comfortably in her carriage. "What about all of my belonging?" She suddenly asked remembering the trunk that had been strapped to the back of the carriage containing her clothes and other things she intended to bring with her.The things in that trunk were worth a lot of money, more than he was probably being paid to look after her . Surely they wouldn't just be leaving them behind, would they?

She was at least glad to see that he seemed like he knew where he was going. "How long is this going to take?" She asked after he had explained the path they were going to take. If they weren't following the road then she was sure this trip was going to take longer than expected, which she wasn't too thrilled about. She could already tell she was going to be bored to death seeing as he wasn't the friendliest, or most talkative of companions. Why couldn't she have had a nicer guard she wondered. If she had had a guard she liked this whole experience might have seemed more like an adventure, it might even have been enjoyable.

The man turned his gaze towards the Princess. Spoiled was a world of descript that moved around in his mind, like a bubble made of soap. He didn't blame her, however. The King had been over protective and he would have been surprised if she had even stung herself on a needle. He also understood her feelings over him telling her what to do, it was usually the other way around and he usually did obey with a bow and a quick turn, gritting his teeth in secret. This time it was different. They where too far away from the capital and any guard post for him to get in trouble, they were almost in land which she had no authority over, what so ever, which meant that even due to his employment as her body guard, would the prince order him to leave them alone, he had to obey, unless of course that would put the princess in danger. This was a time when he didn't feel obliged to listen to her at all, his job was to keep her alive, safe and protected, not to have idle chit chat with her or care if she got offended or not.

He started walking, even though she asked him about her belongings. However, this time he decided to answer, it was a question that had little to do with if they were going to die or not. "Your father can surely by you knew objects, if not then he can probably order them and have them sent to your very room. We cannot take it with us, it is far too heavy and will only get in our way." Especially if it had gold in it. Any type of gold, no matter the amount would always be dangerous to carry when you traveled in the land of dragons. They could smell it on the air. "Which reminds me, your highness. Do you happen to wear any gold jewelry on your person?" He asked, eyes forward on the path.

Not even having the vaguest idea that the princess actually wanted to socialize on their journey, Jonathan wasn't the best when it came to socializing or even reading people. HE could see if they meant business and by that if they were going to be a pain to him by trying to hurt the princess, but that was about it. "It depends on who we meet on the way." He said, calmly without explanation. If they ran into Ogres, Dragons and Trolls they'd be in a pickle, not something he couldn't handle; he hoped.
