Realistic or Modern Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride

This is it. Today is the day.

The furious tropical sun was blaring down on the necks of every passerby, urging more beads of sweat to appear on their foreheads. Despite the light breeze ghosting through the treetops, it gave no assistance to the Hawaiian heat. Even the seagulls were hindered from their journeys across the slate-blue sky, sitting under the pitiful shade of palm trees.

It was, however, another gorgeous day in Honolulu - a sign of good luck.

In the near distance, the roaring waves of the beach sounded like the cheering of a frantic crowd. The smell of tangy saltwater and seaweed carried through the air, interrupted by a morning barbecue starting up on the beachfront. Both residents and tourists alike were filing out of their air-conditioned homes, and out onto the shore, to begin their day of soaking up every last ray of sultry sun.

SLAM!

The virtually broken-down Jeep door shut with a bang enough of wake a giant. Matthew winced, cringing that his parents weren't awoken by his early-morning anger issues. Rather, it was the contrary - he was buzzing out of his little excited mind, having awaited this day since the incredible idea popped into his head to spend the summer - and even more - at his late grandmother's vacation house. Vacation house - how ironic. It was a house, in a spot where people vacation, used for normal living. Hawaiian life is always a vacation.

Matty jogged around the back of the rusty, hand-me-down car that was the family's long forgotten Jeep. As in - Matty's 16th car. Happy Birthday, son! Your prize is - the car of your nightmares. Have fun actually trying to get out of the driveway.

He double-checked that the trunk had all of the things he needed to bring - his entire wardrobe, enough food for a solid month, the entire discography of each of his favourite bands, and then some. There was still enough room for all of his friends' things, and if anything, they could just hold onto their belongings as they blasted down the main road at 120 miles per hour, in a car with no doors or roof.

He triple-checked, before leaning against the side of the
scalding hot metal of the car, passed his fingers through his hair, and pulled out his cellphone.

Star was trudging quietly around the house getting her things ready to leave when her phone dinged in her hand making her drop it. "Damn it.." groaning she picked up her phone before walking back to her room and shoving a few things in her bag. She had clothes to atleast last for 2 months, she wanted to be prepared.. along with a few snacks.

Smiling she texted Matthew back and slid her phone in her pocket as she began to leave the boringness of her home and off somewhere to have fun with her friends.

the smell of saltwater was by far among the most comforting of things akoni had grown accustomed to in his twenty-two years, but today, for some reason, it left an unsettling pit in his stomach. the scent of fresh sea and gasoline clogged his senses, making him feel nauseous and vaguely dazed.

though, at this point, he'd acknowledge that the majority of it was mostly a sick anticipation.

he left the garage with a cigarette dangling from his lips, a tired exhale of smoke falling from his lips as he sauntered towards his motorcycle. he wasn't sure what he had been thinking when he had agreed to this, though he was ashamed to admit that the more he thought about it, the more excited he got. that was problematic within itself, though he supposed it couldn't be helped. straddling the seat of his bike, he revved the motor and drove off, nearly speeding to reach his apartment.

akoni had packed virtually nothing; his travel belongings consisting only of toiletries, a bit of food, and some of his spare cash. when he entered his bedroom, he simply tossed in the entirety of his meager wardrobe, deciding that would be all he would really need, zipping his bag shut and hoisting it over his shoulders. before he left through the door, he grabbed his work toolbox, locking his door behind him as he headed out.

numbly, he noted the vibrations of his phone, bringing it out as he ground his old cigarette beneath his shoe, replacing it with a new one. as he leaned against the railing to light up, he read the text message and rolled his eyes. blowing a cloud of smoke in temperamental amusement, he responded, and headed down back to his bike to be on his way.

be patient. i've already left work, and i just grabbed all my shit, so i'm set to go. gimme 15 minutes, and i'll be there.

As Star slowly arrived she approached Matthews rusty, old jeep and gave a small wave "How long do you think till the others are here? I know Akoni is on the way." Her voice was rather soft and calm for the morning of the trip which she has been excited for, for the longest time and still was.

Putting her things in the trunk she noticed there was just enough space and shoved it towards the back and jumped in the back seat behind the drivers seat while looking at Matthew with her bright blue eyes that were filled with excitement.

Lani woke up to her mom playing the piano and groaned. It was too early for her mom to be on the piano, for sure. Lani rolled over with the intention of going back to sleep, until her phone went off. She grabbed It off her bedside table and unlocked it. "Fuuuuck." She whined. It was way later then she thought and today was the day her and her friends were leaving. She'd utterly forgotten.

She got up slowly and began filling up her duffle back with clothes and her giant purse with stuff she thought she would need like $560 in cash (allowance money), a pocket knife (for protection), her make-up bag (filled with the finest cosmetics), and other miscellaneous items she thought she needed. About the time when she was done she got a text from Matt. She scoffed out loud. God he's impatient, She thought.

She walked down the stairs slowly and peeked into the living room to see her mom playing piano with her dad pulled up in his wheelchair, staring at the wall. Lani's mom did this every morning at the same time; It's called music therapy and it was the doctor's last-ditch resort to get my dad back. It hadn't been working. Lani sighed and walked out the door. Her house wasn't anything special. With only 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, it was not the most her mom could afford. But Lani was fine with that, she didn't spend much time in it anyway: it was too gloomy. Besides, she lived only a block away from Matt's house, so that was cool.

She was walking down the street when she got Star's text, and Lani narrowed her eyes. Matt had put her in a group chat. She hated those. She didn't even know Star that well. She knew of her, But she didn't know her personally. She was considering, earlier, taking her car to Matt's, but she figured it would be safer in her own driveway while she was gone, so she walked.

About halfway there her phone went off again- a text from Akoni, who she did know very well. After a little more walking and odd stares from random people in their lawns, Lokelani reached Matt's house and smiled slightly at the sight of his old jeep. She loved Matt's jeep, even though she knew he hated it. Star was there too. Neither of them saw her yet so she decided to startle them. "Shotgun!" She yelled, drawing both their attention. She walked up the the rusty jeep and gently put her duffle bag on top of the rest of the stuff.

Alex poured out the rest of her wine and looked at her phone.

Blow my phone up why dont ya...But Im on my way now! Don't leave me!

Alex grabbed her bag and phone charger. She checked and made sure she had everything. Alex cut through the woods and came up behind Matt's house. She ran to the front and looked at Matthew. (sorry this is so rushed i have to leave in like 5 minutes so this was rushed please forgive me.)

Matty had nearly jumped out of his skin when Star has appeared out of thin air - he was too distracted by his phone to acknowledge that reality was still around him. At the sight of Star, a smile tugged on the corners of his mouth, offering the kind expression to his friend.

"I dunno," his shoulders bounced up and down, "but hopefully soon. I've been waiting here since fo--"

He was cut off by a victorious screech, causing his body to contort into "armadillo-mode", his arms flinging over his head to protect him - and his phone almost launching out of his hand into the bushes. He peeked open an eye, and glared at the newly-arrived Lani.

"It's way too early for this shit," he mumbled, his vague accent drawling out the tired words. He rubbed his face with his hands, pulling his hair back, and glanced up towards the towering villa-painted house overlooking the driveway.

"If you guys scream any more, I swear to god, this trip is off - " He looked away from the curtain-covered window, twirling on his ankle to face back to the car. "Plus, I'll have all your asses on a plate."

Either for comedic or threatening purposes - despite Matty being the physical representation of a "curly-haired elf tucked inside a leather jacket a size too big for his precious cinnamon bun soul", he held out his hand flat, palm up, like he was holding a large invisible platter, while staring down Lani and Star.

The moment he caught Alex walking up the driveway towards the group that a wave of exasperation crashed over Matty, causing him to drop both of his arms limply, and hang his head. It was nearly 7A.M, and he already wanted to go back to bed.

"Hello, Alex . . ." he exhaled.

Harlyn has been awake for quite sometime, maybe she'd gotten an hour or two of sleep. She had thrown some things in a bag mostly just necessities. There was no way she'd be leaving her guitar behind, though. As she gently strummed the strings waiting for the others to wake up, Harlyn felt herself drift away contently.

A soft buzzing caressed her ear, as she always left her phone near her face. Slowly opening her eyes, she examined her room. It was normal, not very dirty yet not the cleanest it could've been. The walls were a soft grey, with small cracks in the corners. The floors were nothing extraordinary, just wooden floorboards that creaked a little with every step. Harlyn blinked again, realizing it was much lighter outside than she had thought. "Damn!" she exclaimed, bolting upwards while hurriedly grabbing her things.

Running out of the front door, her phone vibrated not once, but twice more. She pulled it out of her back pocket and scanned through the texts. Harlyn knew Matty was going to invite more people but I wonder, how much more? She wasn't very close with anyone nowadays, she knew names and faces but nothing underneath. Harlyn didn't care to respond to the others, not another minute should be wasted. She was finally doing something with her life and she wouldn't want them to leave her.

Harlyn finally approached Matty's house and saw a few people standing with him next to his old jeep as he greeted them. She gave a slight smile and a wave to everyone standing with him.

Star smiled at Matt from within the Jeep and gave a soft laugh "Oh come on.. being a little spooky is fun!" Looking at their friends surrounding the car there was one she knew but barely could figure it out "L-Lani?" She said it softly meant for her ears only but she shook her head and looked around as she heard the sound of a motorcycle certainly getting closer and jumped out of her seat within the Jeep "I call that seat but first I've gotta tackle someone!" She laughed Half joking but half serious, she looked from the edge of the side walk.

Edens car had been parked on the beach for some hours now, she was aware of the fact that she had been extremely early but the best waves were in the morning and she wanted to catch them. She was on her last wave when she noticed Mattys jeep, "So there all here already? Well, I guess this is my last wave then." She stood up on her board and began riding the wave smoothly. Carefully she brought her foot up and out it behind her doing a small ballerina pose. She wasn't interested in getting overly soaked, but it looked like she just might end up coming out of the water drenched. Her legs began to wobble a bit and the only thing she could let out of her mouth, was a quiet "Sh*t!" She went face first into her last wave, but she did it with a smile.

She swam upwards with strength, as her mouth breached the surface of the water she loudly screamed " Yo, Matty get your stupid a*s down here right now." She waved her hands frantically for about thirty seconds, then she began swimming for her board. She pulled herself out of the water and onto her bored, cautiously she looked on the surface of the water for any signs of sharks. After yelling and splashing there was a good chance she may have attracted one, carefully she swam to shore making sure she wasn't being followed, every twenty strokes or so she would sit up straight on her bored and put her face into the water and look under her bored but every time there was nothing there.

She was on shore the next time she looked out to the water, and still she didnt see a single shadow or dark shape under the water of a shark. She found that quite weird, but shrugged it off as something normal. She walked on the cool sand over to her orange colored jeep, her permanently dyed hair dripping wet and her bathing suit even more soaked if that was possible. She grabbed her towel out of the back of her jeep and began making her towards Matty and whoever else was with him. Leaving the water behind her and only looking forward with determined eyes.

With a decent amount of sleep and the consequence of sleeping in that came with it, Carter was in an absolute rush. She was never one to be early, but she was also never one to be late. She quickly began packing, all while muttering some cuss words under her breath. She had packed enough clothes to last her two weeks, some snacks, a couple of notebooks, and some pencils before rushing out of the door.

Taking a glance at her phone, she didn’t even bother to reply. She knew it would only slow her down, as if the duffel bag that was slung across her shoulder wasn’t enough. She ran as fast as her small feet could take her, and didn’t dare to look back at the last place she created memories with her parents.

When she finally reached Matty’s house, she immediately took note in the amount of people already there. Dreading her decision, she walked over to the group. Nobody seemed to notice her just yet, so she pulled out a notebook and began creating some type of masterpiece.

Nicole wakes up to the sound of her phone going off and realizes that she fell asleep in the backyard again last night, watching the sky. She lets out a terrified squeak as she reads the texts and rushes inside her house. She grabs her bag and journal. Nothing fancy, just the essentials. Nick quickly brushes out her hair, changes clothes, and brushes her teeth before throwing that stuff into her bag as well. She writes a note to her grandparents, saying goodbye, and bursts out of the house.. Nikki walks to Matty's house in a little bit more of a rushed fashion than her usual speed. She slows down as she nears the house, to find the lovely old Jeep still sitting there. Nick took a deep breath and rolled her eyes at herself for thinking she would be too late.

"Morning, you guys." She says, throwing her bag into the back and giving a small smile to the rest of the group.

" Hey Matt.." Alex said with a smile as she put her bag in the back. " How are you?" She asked Matt biting her lip slowly. She looked at the others thinking about this trip. Alex smelled some drama coming soon and fast like a tornado maybe. She looked at Matt up and down thinking. She played with her hair with her finger a little becoming a little nervous. " Matt is very cute.." She thought to herself.

Star turned and looks at the girls who were now coming, skipping over to them from where she had been waiting for Akoni. Placing her chin on Alex's shoulder to see what she was looking at she raised an eyebrow "Hmm.." she giggled before leaning on the Jeep and waving to all the new-comers. "I'm so excited.. Whose ready?"

Alex looked at Star and leaned her head on her when Star leaned hers on her. " Hey beautiful... and of course I am. I mean who isn't ready to get wild?" Alex smiled at Star noticing her long blonde hair. She grabbed her bag and grabbed a flower band she made the other day. " Here, pretty dandelions for beautiful blonde hair.." Alex said handing it to her.

Stopping Eden realized she just couldn't leave her car there unattended. She walked back about five meters and then got in the drivers seat of the car. She started the engine and drove up the beach where everyone was standing. "Sorry you guys, I hope i didn't almost run someone over." She got out of the drivers seat elegantly and looked to Matty, she began to giggle she made her way over to Matty with hop step like movements.

She stopped right in front of Matty, ignoring any of the people that were already situated there and having a conversation with the island bad boy she just smiled. Lifting her arms about evenly to her chest she put her hands onto Mattys shoulders pushing him up against his jeep, she the proceeded to kiss Matty slowly slipping her tongue into his mouth and quickly taking it back out again. She stopped and removed her hands from his shoulders and looked at him, "You owed me that, the surf bored we broke in the surf shack when we were hanging out, the payment to buy a new one came out of my check."

She turned and made her way back to her orange colored jeep, her cute little bored shorts just covering her nice handfull rear cheeks. Opening the jeep doors she sat down in the drivers seat, put her feet up on the dash, and took out her cherry flavored tootsie pop. Her beautiful hair covering the side of her face, made the slight smirk she had on her face look even more devilish then ever.

Star laughed at Alex's comment then gave a small glare to Eden "Well first.. sorry chick.. and well, thanks." She slipped on the flower band with a smile and whispered so only Alex would hear "That was a bit much.. don't you think?" She sighed softly as she roller her eyes at Eden and made a duck face as if to mock in a joking manner.

Alex face turned red and she looked at Star. " That was exactly to much.. Star she put her tongue in his throat.." She whispered as anger filled her body and soul. She slowly balled up her fist and began thinking about peace. " but its not like i care.. I mean I don't like him or anything..I mean..Ughhh.. I see she is gonna be the start of the drama.." She whispered again while looking at Matt with her face all flustered. " this is why I deal with animals.." She thought to herself and noticed all the girls beauty. " I cant compete with that" she whispered slowly.

Star hugged Alex tightly and sighed softly "Hey now.. that's no way to speak, she's single and she might be pretty but so are you and your pretty damn awesome in my opinion. If Matt doesn't see that then.. that's him but for now let's just focus on fun not drama. Stick with me chickadee." She whispered and smiled widely, she always did her best to make people feel better even if it didn't work the first time she'd keep trying for at least any change in their face and the way that they saw themselves.

Eden looked to Star, "You whisper a little loud. You wanna know a little much?" She got up out of her car and walked towards Star and Alex. "Me and Matty had sex. Thats a little much. I had to pay for the surf bored we broke, cause hes really ruff. Thats a little much." She laughed as she looked at Alex's fist, she turned around and and shook her head walking back to the car. "Trust me, hes really good at that body to body thing"

Lani had been sitting down in the front passenger seat and watching everyone arrive and talk among themselves. These girls were not her crowed normally, and she was starting to question whether or not she would enjoy herself. Then Eden walked over and Lani sighed. Lani didn't like Eden, and she'd gotten in a couple fights with her. But when she kissed Matty without permission, Lani grabbed her brow between her fingers.

She mumbled profanities under her breath and was about it chip into Alex's and Star's conversation. Unfortunately, Eden chipped in before Lani could. Lani laughed at what Eden said, "Jesus Eden, you were really dying to tell us that weren't you?" Lani shot Matty a look, trying to judge if he would be ok with what she was about to say. She decided that they had been friends since they were kids and he would probably be cool with it. "Listen, no offence Eden, but Matty sleeps with a lot of girls, it don't make you special." Lani said in a mock pity voice. Honestly, Lani had no idea why Matty invited this girl. She doesn't go well with this group of people. Sure lots of people liked Eden but just not this group of people.

Alex's mouth open wide and she looked at Star. "well that sounds nice.." She held on to the bumper of the car as tightly as she could. Alex couldn't believe what she was hearing. She looked at Matt with a shocking face. " What the fuck?" She muttered under her breath.

"Oh I know, but i am his first bitch. Thats why he invited me anyways, was so he had someone to fuck. Im completly alright with that." She laughed a bit, "I just thought maybe me kissing him wasn't enough for them to know and they should know the whole truth!" She looked to them all and flashed her pearly whites, "I know you all dont like me, buts that too bad, im here and i dont plan on leaving anytime soon!"

Eden was actually happy about how everyone felt. She loved all the negative energy she got from all these people, instead of the stupid nice people at the surf shows. God how it made her happy to see people be mad at her for once in three years.

Nicole raised an eyebrow at the entire situation taking place before her before finally just resulting to staying out of it. She couldn't believe these girls were really arguing over Matthew. The boy she's known since they were kids. Shaking her head, she walks a little closer to Lani and leans against the car, looking at her.

"Well, props to you, you seem like the most level headed person here yet." Nikki says, and smiles a little.
