Battle!

[Jareth’s [Attack]; [Intelligence] C(4) + Catalyst D(3) + Magic F(1)] = 8
[Jareth’s [Attack]; (8) + 2(Combo Bonus)] = (10)
[Jareth’s [Attack] (10) - Bug’s [Attack] ??] = (3)

Jareth’s attacks were more than enough to completely cripple the bug. That is if the bug itself was not attacked as well, Jareth’s attack was well enough to rip off and break the bug’s arm as well as shatter its exoskeleton. Leaving it vulnerable. It staggered backwards.

Jareth would then feel a sudden pain. The flakes which still stayed embedded into him had shattered, tiny pieces spread themselves like splinters. It was not enough to immediately render him incapable of movement, however, it still somehow caused immense pain. (Jareth has been reduced down to 1 HP)

Immediately after the fact, the bug which had stabbed Solidi through the back would turn forward, and begin dashing straight toward Jareth extending out its arm… Wait, no, the bug had completely ignored Jareth(?) Instead, it ran swiftly toward the much larger winged vermin. The bug Jareth had attacked seemingly did the same, as it quickly, although slightly stunted by its missing leg, moved.

[Connor’s [Attack]; [Strength] E(2) + Weapon [Katana] F(1)] = 3
[Connor’s [Attack] (3) - Bug’s [Attack] ??(?)]
= Draw.

[Shael’s [Attack]; [Precision] C(4) + Weapon [Lunen Bow] F(1) + Ability F(1)] = 6

Connor was successful in defending with his attack. The bug was repelled back slightly as its spindle-like arm collided with Connor’s blade. Shael was lucky, the bug hadn’t even noticed her as her shot would successfully pierce through its eye. The bug shrieked before falling.

[Arkham’s [Attack]; [Strength] B(5) + Weapon [Bastard Sword] C(4) + Ability F(1)] = 10
[Arkham’s [Attack] (10) - Bug’s [Attack] ??] = (3)

Arkham’s attack on the bug would successfully defend against it, even resulting in him cutting off its sharp arm. However, the attack itself only seemed to create a dent in the bug’s exoskeleton, damaging it slightly. He’d feel an uneasiness overcome him. There were multiple things, about two, closing in from behind him.

Nox’s restraints seemingly broke off, softening in a way. Although she was released from its bind, it was only partial. A thick silky residue made her movements heavy. (Nox will have to expend 1 Action to [Move] in her post. [Tangle])

[Arkham’s [Attack]; [Strength] B(5) + Weapon [Bastard Sword] C(4)] = 9

The decadently winged bug wouldn’t let itself easily be attacked, as it’d sweep its large left-wing forth in an iridescent strike against Nox and Arkham. Nox would only be slightly harmed, however, as the attack would knock her back 2 meters (6 ft).

[Arkham’s [Attack] (9) - ???’s [Attack] ??] = (4)

The counter against Arkham’s attack would act favourably for it, as his attack would graze its large iridescent wing, causing flakes to scatter off. It didn’t seem to bear any form of hard exoskeleton like the other bugs. It screamed.

Again, the bug would begin fluttering its single wing. Again, sharp thin flakes would be scattered in the air, this time, however, it wouldn’t be so easy for them to avoid.

To make things worse, as if signalled, the two bugs which attacked Solidi and Jareth were charging at Arkham with the clear intent of pinning him down. The one in front of him also charged at him.

~'Nox'~

1687657522437.pngAs it would turn out Nox wouldn't actually have to wait all that long for the silk restraining her to become weakened. That being said her escape from said silk didn't go as smoothly as expected. A follow up attack had sent her sliding back two foot but had luckily dealt no damage in doing so. Still, despite this knockback, Nox had been freed and her foes had gathered neatly in one nice cluster as if begging to be struck down. Ignoring her bloodlust would be their demise. They should have dealt with her when they had the chance.

Dashing toward her opponents (7ft west, 1ft north, 3ft west) Nox placed herself in the perfect position to strike down all her foes in one swift attack. Or at least the best position she believed would allow her to attempt such a feat. Her entire focus was on felling her foes. Specifically the giant translucent bug. It had to be destroyed, they all had to be destroyed.

Griping her makeshift blade with as much strength as she could muster, Nox struck a low pose. Sheathing her makeshift blade in an imaginary holster she began to focus on the task before her. With her Rage boiling, bloodlust overflowing and her eyes glowing far more noticeably now than ever before, something in Nox's new physiology awakened and responded to her intent. Though the others wouldn't be privy to this, Nox, in her enraged state could see it clearly. Her foes weak points were now lit up, glowing like beacons within her vision. [Sixth Sense F - Weakpoint Vision]. With this information now at her disposal, Nox would swiftly draw her blade and attempt to deal a devastating blow to all those bugs that dared to gather before her. Specifically targeting the translucent bug and it's weakpoint as she did so.

Jareth Fletcher
| Human | Eyeglass Adept | Ryken Adventurer F | Sandman | Comrade | Sun-Kissed |
Sandman - character's body is made of sand. Is likely to leave sand behind wherever they go. Has an easier time staying together in moist environments and less windy days. Even when solid, can give off the impression they may blow away at any moment.
Comrade - character has proved themselves to be a good ally and approachable. Character will have easier time convincing others to team up with their cause or to allow him to join theirs. More likely to join a cause that isn't worth joining too, however.
Sun-Kissed - character has a new found fascination with the Leilosis faith. Will suffer in social situations with those that despise the followers of the Sun God. Will excel in social situations with Sun God followers.

The resolve was evident in his attacks as Jareth's mana infused hand effortlessly began demolishing the bug before him. Had he continued, the bug would no doubt have fallen with another barrage of attacks. Before its demise could be confirmed, however, the bug turned tail and ran towards the large, white bug.

Jareth would have given chase, but it seemed he was not through dealing with the splinters within his person. Another flare-up spread fire through his body as the foreign substance inflicted its suffering once more. Jareth fell to a knee, while the bug that had just killed Solidi ran past him towards the white bug. One eye winced in pain, while the other struggled to stay open in order to survey what was happening. The bugs were converging, while his team was spread out.

Another wave of pain drove him down onto hands and knees. He gritted his teeth as he glanced back up at the congregation. The white bug flapped its remaining wing while a shimmering substance filled the air. Shimmering...Hadn't their been something shiny in the air a moment ago right before this pain began? Jareth hadn't noticed in all the commotion. There was something mingled with his sand body now, actively tearing him up from the inside. He had to shake it loose. Jareth sighed as he closed his eyes. Hopefully this works....

Jareth's form collapsed once more into a pile of sand, willingly this time. The bulk of what was him then shifted forward, stopping just behind the fly carcass before becoming solid once more. Looking behind him at the pile of sand he left behind (hopefully along with all of the shards as well), Jareth began to feel spiteful. Pointing his catalyst at the pile, he whipped the catalyst towards the bugs.

"Have this back!" he cried.

Assuming the ability goes off, the mass of sand and shards would fly over the group of bugs and disperse into a cloud. The sand/shard mixture would target the bugs specifically, penetrating into them like the shards had done to Jareth. The cloud would persist and the damage the bugs sustain from it would continue so long as they lingered in it.

Actions: 1. Change State F 2. Move west to fly carcass 3. Return to sender

Cooldowns: F (Ready), E (Duration active, 0/1), D (2/2), Regen in 5 posts

Calculations: INT C (4) + Catalyst D (3) + Return to Sender E [Magic E, Domain F (Selective, Range (30ft), AOE (15ft), Targets (5), Duration (1 hour), Penetrating, Blight, Continuing)] (2) = 9 effectiveness

Shael was feeling like her skills really weren't up to snuff for a situation like this where they just had so many enemies to deal with. Granted if they were successful in defeating their foes she'd get what she needed to get into the guild. but the fact this was such a difficult way of going about it and coming to aid these people was not lost on her. This wasn't some sort of rudimentary fetch quest or even going to a camp to deal with some bandits, this was a sizable scale invasion against the village they had been forced to contend with. All Shael could really do was hope that she could pull through and do what she did best.

That still didn't make her feel like she was less than accurate in those moments. She in this world so desperately wanted to strive for perfection and protect anyone and she was utterly helpless to defend all of her allies, never mind the fact she hadn't the resources around to properly try to save Solidi even, even with her survivalist skill there wasn't anything there that could be used to easily deal with the sort of injury she sustained presuming she was still alive. It was too dangerous to make her way over there for someone who was possibly very dead in this moment, she had to stay back, help Connor and shoot that large bug to help finish it off if possible. Arkh while having been in a problematic position only moments prior seemed to deal with the situation, as well as getting support from those nearby thankfully.

She found herself somewhat envious of Jareth's skills in that moment as he cascaded sand over the insect swarm, she desperately needed to be able to increase her coverage like he was able too, even Nox was better off with her ability to hit multiple foes with her blade movements. IT all was so impressive. Shael didn't have that luxury yet, all she could really do was stand from afar and pick off enemies one at a time. Presuming she'd survive what was to come, even as the enemies waned, she'd try her best to get stronger so that she could help all of those out who had been having such hardship during this battle..

"Connor are you okay?"
She'd ask a serious tone in her voice. She'd walk her way straight 10 ft forward.

"If you can get up, you should get up quickly, it's dangerous to stay stationary there."

For all they knew there could more hostiles concealed with how the other ones had emerged, she wasn't taking any chances so even as her comrades in the front did big damage she stayed on task and readied another arrow before using yet another Stealth Shot, targeting the large translucent bug's head. The sooner this thing died the sooner they'd all stop being in danger and they could deal with the eggs and whatever else. After making her shot she'd get a better look over at Connor.

1. Move forward straight in direction facing 10 feet.
2. Using Stealth Shot F aiming for translucent bug's head.
Stealth Shot - Stealth F, Steady Hands F
Shael attempts to aim and take a shot at her target while undetected by being stealthy. Grade F - 0 post cooldown.

Struggling and keeping the bug distracted for long enough seemed to have been enough for Shael to get a solid shot off. Panting slightly, Connor quickly pushed the bug off of him and to the side as soon as it went limp thanks to the arrow sticking out of its eye. He stood up and nodded in affirmation as Shael approached. The wrestling match took quite a bit of effort, so he needed a brief moment to catch his breath to take stock of what the current situation is. She's right, the others seem to be having a difficult time as well, so there is no time to waste. He tried to gesture that he was unharmed, and encouraged Shael to start supporting the rest of the group.

“Y-yeah, thank you. Don’t worry, I’m…”

That was when he saw it.

“Solidi...!”

The reckless redhead seemed to finally have fallen. Unmoving and with even more red coating the grass around her with blood, hope of her survival is unlikely to be answered. He remembered there being more than one bug that escaped from the corpse of the big worm. Would that mean this was his fault? Was there anything he could have done better? Thoughts raced in his mind, as the few moments he spent staring at Solidi’s body seemed to stretch on for minutes.

He shouldn’t get distracted, there’s still a fight to finish. Shael seemingly slipped from his mind as Connor started moving forward [1] towards where the rest of the group is. Would he be able to save anybody else when it comes down to it? Moving past Solidi and being able to have a closer look only further deepened his doubts, slowing him down until coming to a stop ahead of Jareth, staring at the other remaining bugs with a frown.

Actions:
[1] - Move west, approx. 3 ft. in front of Jareth’s current position

Arkham Koenig

Arkham was in a less than ideal position, to say the least. Away from his teammates, and surrounded by his opposition. Worst part of it all, they all attacked basically at the same time. Having not much time to think, he went for the only move he thought represented receiving the least damage. Given that the strike from the larger bug would come from a more elevated angle, Arkham enveloped in an [Aura] of noxious shadows and dove under the wing strike while also getting away from the plethora of piercing attacks. Landing under the large bug and hoping the glass-like dust didn't reach him there.

Once he felt at less of a disadvantage, he struck the larger bug from below. While maintaining his noxious [Aura] and using a [Penetrating] strike in the form of a stab from below at the abdomen part of the bug that wouldn't sit still. And then a slicing motion on the sword's way out.

Battle!

Sweeping through her squelching abdomen, Nox's blade impressively cut through the translucently-shaded creature believed to be the spawner. Nox's makeshift weapon sliced as if it were cutting cleanly through thin air. That was merely for the one who was assumed to be their head, for its body itself was seemingly softer compared to its glass-like wings and hardened drones. Nox would have struggled slightly to cut through the other bugs.

Nox's attack was faster and bolder than he presumed spawner's and would stop its attempt to again spread its wing's scales. Jareth and Shael's attacks would also aid, with the mage's throwback being helpful in further breaking down the creatures' hard exoskeletons while Shael's single arrow planted itself in the forehead of the translucent bug. Arkham's attack after Nox's would make it indeed deedly, breaking apart the bulbous boils which only slimly squirmed. She didn't shriek. Not yet.

Its maw opened, its two pincers splitting wide across its head. Its one wing raised and its antennae shook violently. From the creature's abdomen spilt silvery thick mucus and writhing incomplete bulbs, some split by Nox's attack, some disfigured by Jareth's return, and some whole. Arkham's attack had only further destroyed the eggs inside the abdomen of the wing'd bug. The other bugs made no sound as they fell broken and cut to the floor. However, the supposed 'queen' did more than just shriek. It let out a final scream, a painful gurgle as it stiffened without pace to the floor.

Even those who were considerably farther from her could hear its hurfil as if it had been done right into their ear. It was the more than most unpleasantest sensation which vibrated unmoistened through their beings, hoarsely like a dry pinched throat coughing sinew. Well, it wasn't like that either. It burned like water in a winter's lake. Although, It was likely not that description either. For a moment it felt like everything went silent. There was this foul taste in everyone's ears, it felt like even one's eyes could still hear it.

When the sound of the wind finally began to reach their ears, they'd see it, the creature assumed to be the broodmother, now lay there unmoving with its other decadent wing shattered. The trees shook, and the wind danced through the forestry making the natural rustling of the leaves once more known in the ears of all those here. They weren't all gone, of course, however, the ones here were no longer coordinated and the larvae and brood were no longer supervised.

The gossip of the trees must have reached 'her' by now, the white flowers in full bloom to the side of Jareth were now dyed bright pink and their scent was unmistakable. Effectively, it masked the iron and wretched smell which plagued the air. Ahead of the other bugs scurried about stupidly without order further and deeper into the forest, whether they chose to pursue them now or not didn't matter, they'd certainly be less of a difficulty now that they weren't constantly multiplying. It was a matter of time before these bugs which threatened to invade Ryke were dealt with.

The sun rudely shone. The wind wound, brushing through the verdant grass beneath the adventurers' feet. Swayed the heaths, swayed the tree branches. A bird's chirp could probably be heard far in a tree somewhere, and the clouds were shaped unseemly. None here spoke the language of the flowers or that of the trees or the wind. So what they spoke of the group was not of their concern. Praise may be the south dancing wind. Ridicule may be the loud whispers of the trees' leaves. Expectant may be the fluttering petals of the heaths.

Whatever they were saying, it didn't concern the adventurers, they were now to be headed back to the one who had given them their quest.

They had spread themselves thin, but it seemed like they all locked onto the white bug simultaneously. Alongside Jareth's lobbed spell, everyone else positioned themselves to hit the grounded white bug at the same time. The sand obscured much, but through the haze, Jareth could tell there were fewer creatures moving, fewer vibrations coming to him through the ground. Then the horrible screech pierced the air.

Jareth's free hand immediately clapped over his ear on the same side, but his hand bearing the catalyst only clenched tighter onto it, unable to save that ear. He hunched over as the sound pierced him deeper than any sharpened appendage could. Loose sand began cascading from the sandman's ear as he fought to maintain his spell.

Eventually the shriek faded into a gurgling, choking sound as the opalescent creature finally collapsed. Jareth sank to a knee again as his catalyst hand gradually fell. The damaging cloud over the area swirled into concentrated clouds away from everyone before falling to the ground.

Jareth was panting again. The pain hadn't resumed, but those shards had caused extensive damage before he shook loose of them. He watched as everyone else emerged from their various places. Connor had come to stand next to him during the final assault.

"Connor...h...how is everyone?" Jareth huffed at him in between his labored breathing. He glanced over his shoulder to where Solidi still lay motionless. Jareth couldn't verbalize it just yet.

The fight continued as the others each started dealing significant blows to the translucent winged insect. Connor was close enough to immediately move in to support, but chose to slow down first as the insect was cut wide open, bodily fluids and even more eggs similar to those around them spilling out. The whoosh of Shael’s arrow cutting through the air overhead appeared to finish it off as it let out an ear-piercing screech, freezing him in place. Grimacing, he wasn’t able to do much else other than keep his head down and raise an arm up to his ear.

The insect’s dying screams eventually faded away, and Connor looked up to see it collapsing, and the remaining bugs scattering and scurrying away deeper into the forest. That seems to be the worst of it… Was it over…? Given what has happened so far, he still couldn’t quite get himself to relax. He kept his head on a swivel and scanned around, though no other bugs, monsters, or other such creatures appeared. For now, it was only them and the remaining eggs all around them to deal with.

Jareth’s question prompted Connor to look back at Shael. Confirming that something didn't somehow sneak up on her during the few moments after dealing a major blow to the presumed queen bug, he then looked down and checked himself. Other than being roughed up from being tossed around and hit a bunch of times, no major injuries… at least none that he can feel or see.

“Yeah, we’re fine but… Uh… S-Solidi… She… I…”

After a while, he simply just shook his head. He didn’t know exactly what to say. He didn’t know whether he could get the words out and explicitly confirm what he believed.

Finally they managed to kill that large translucent insect with a join barrage of attacks, even if hers wasn't as strong as some of those coming at the very least it had struck an important part on the thing hitting it in head. It was quite a sight when it finally went down between Nox, Arkham, and Jareth in addition, before it let out a most natural but horrible sounding last screaming sound before it perished. Even after all the harm the insects had caused. Under normal circumstances she might have felt worse for having to kill these insects which had no crime other than existing and trying to survive just like any other living thing, but after what they had done to Solidi presumably, it was difficult not to feel some sense of closure at what had just transpired. Even if those other bugs got away they were now an isolated problem that could be dealt with like any other monster without having a queen to reproduce the colony.

Shael heard the sounds of nature, which normally might have been calming but after such an intense battle, she just looked around her at the fallen insects, and her comrades who had all fought so hard..Jareth, Connor, Nox, Arkham...they had all survived even if some had perhaps been more roughed up than others by the bugs, knowing full well that her ranged support role had saved her much of needing to get up and close and personal which was quite dangerous as she had seen what had unfolded around them.

but after doing an assessment to make sure that everyone else was alive and not critically injured at least, her eyes fell on Solidi. It had been impossible for her and Connor to do any better in that situation, there had only been two of them, and even if they had wanted to do something drastic like throw themselves in front of the insect to protect Solidi they wouldn't have been able to act fast enough, they had been occupied with their own enemies fully.

She made her way over to Solidi's body, and looked down at her, it was a painful scene indeed for Shael, as she had to hold back showing her more intense emotions for the time being, it evident there was shock among the group from what she had seen so far.

If she could see what was coming...why did she her come with us.. Was all Shael could think to herself, she then got down, and decided the best course of action was to attempt to pick Solidi up. Regardless of what could or couldn't be done she wasn't about to leave her there...maybe there was someone who could help, even as grim as things looked..she had heard of powerful healers being able to do amazing things. If she was able to pick her up she'd continue,

"Listen everyone, the best thing we can do right now..is get her back and give a report on what happened..we did our best in a very difficult situation where we were greatly outnumbered..staying around here isn't going to help Solidi or us..It might not be too late if we..hurry."

Not using language to suggest that Solidi was looking dead, of course Shael didn't want to believe it either, but if they had any chance of a better outcome they needed to get moving, Shael was ready to head back.

Arkham Koenig

"Oh shi...!" Arkham vigorously barked, as he rolled in the grass underneath the spawner. Attempting to get away from the liquid guts and eggs spilling on the ground. Using one of his hands to hop back to his feet while he held his sword at the ready. Though he almost collapsed then and there. His ears were victim to the single most awful noise he had ever heard. The noise made him collapse to a knee, but not sensing any danger, he took a few seconds to respite before jumping back into the fray.

There was nothing to jump back on, however. After a quick look around, he sighed, and sheathed his blade. It was over. Arkham's eyes were drawn to the group, who in turn looked at Shael.

"Dammit..." Arkham murmured to himself upon catching a glimpse of Solidi. He started to walk back to the group. Would it be different if he stayed instead of trying to kill the biggest threat to everyone? Would have someone else died then? Guilt weighed heavily on him, but he didn't let that affect him all that much. This world was way crueler than the one he came from, or at least, so it showed. He felt shockingly apathetic to the scene, looking calm, yet distant. Was he coping with witnessing the death of a young girl, or was his heart already bleeding black?

~'Nox'~

1688861445015.png
Nox stood aside the giant translucent corpse of the beast she and the others had just slew. It's shriek, having sounded at point-blank range, left her reeling and deafened. It was a miracle her eardrums hadn't ruptured but a loss of balance was certainly felt as a result of the beasts parting gift. Even in death, the creature was diabolical in nature. How disgusting.

Trying her best to stay upright, her makeshift sword like a cane, Nox glanced around at the carnage the group had left behind them. The woman's red eyes still glowing a dim red, wandered from corpse to corpse. That was until they came to rest upon the corpse of Solidi and the blood-stained grass she rested upon. Were it not for the adrenaline and primal rage still coursing through her veins, Nox likely would have thrown up at the sight. The bugs were disgusting in their own right but to see Solidi's lifeless corpse resting in a puddle of its own blood. Well, it was something that she truly couldn't get over. Not mentally anyway. This world. It was so cruel.

Nox's new body left her with the natural instincts required to seek out and destroy monsters, in fact, she was drawn to it. But, she was still from Earth. Seeing a human die, bleed out even, it wasn't for the faint of heart. Had these 'monsters' been bandits instead? Well, standing there in a deafened silence, Nox thought to herself, it likely would have spelled her doom. Killing monsters was one thing, but humans? Human-like beings? Could she really stomach it?

While deep in her own thoughts, Nox's hearing slowly returned and the sound of nature was quickly taken in. The forest seemed almost alive. How strange. 'Destroy, Kill, Slaughter'.
Huh? Looking down at her hands Nox noticed that not only had her makeshift blade been posed to strike but she had also taken up a striking position too. Wait? Had she moved too? 'Destroy!'. Without her intent, her body had moved toward one of the egg piles, and with a swing of her blade, Nox made an attempt to destroy the entire pile, her blade infused with holy energy.

Granted it wasn't exactly like this was a bad thing but the fact Nox had done so without realizing gave her quite a fright. Though it had happened before, upon her reincarnation, when she became desperately hungry and was stalking a wolf. Still, this felt dangerous.

Once her blade had been swung, Nox regained control of her actions and in doing so steeled herself to repeat the same action on the other side. Once again Slicing through all but one of the eggs that were left. If they had lain all these eggs, in such a short time, they couldn't very well leave them behind on the off chance they hatched. Like a termite infestation on Earth, she felt such a precaution was only right and part of the job. Still, she left a single egg unharmed. The guild would likely want to inspect it after all.

"Shael, could I burden you to please take this egg? I believe the guild may want to inspect it upon our return yet I fear I may damage it if left to carry it. You seem the most responsible here. Can I trust you with this?". Looking at Shael with a blank expression, Nox asked a favor of her but in return, Nox moved to Solidi's corpse. It seemed Shael was hoping the girl could receive aid back in the town. Nox, only having knowledge of earth, begged to differ but she wasn't going to openly do so. After all, perhaps there was a chance. Scooping the girl up into her arms, Nox's coat and hands slowly tainted red. Between the blood of the bugs and Solidi, her white coat was looking quite the mess. "We can head back to town right away then, let us make haste. If you don't want to carry that egg, crush it without hesitation".

Noise

The verdant ground beneath the party swayed in the wind, the heaths' petals danced inelegantly within their bushes. The wind fluttered eastward as if pushing them to return to the village of Haeddre. They had no need to stay here in this place which smelled of decay. Each larva that Nox had smashed within the pile squelched with a silent shriek, as transparent fluids oozed out of their destroyed developing forms. It was as if they felt pain, however, that was something unlikely. The single one left behind in the pile Nox had mauled suddenly seemed so lonesome, however, feeling sympathy for creatures who knew not pain would only bring downfall.

As Nox picked up Solidi, she would the girl's stiffened body to be quite light. Something fell from the right pocket of the girl's red-stained pinafore. It didn't seem like anything important at a glance, however, it was a simple and quite poorly crafted necklace. Held together by a thick worn thread, was a simple oak charm carved into the shape of a sunflower. A symbol which stood in for 'H' was embossed in the middle of the sunflower. It was potentially some sort of gift to the girl, held in her pocket, likely so it wouldn't be damaged.

The larva which Shael had assumedly taken was quickly soft to the touch. However, it wasn't a very pleasant sensation on the skin, a transparent and thick substance coated the growing creature like some sort of slime. It was rather grotesque. The larva didn't really move much, other than seemingly breathing. Fortunately, the thing didn't seem to have any apparent odour.

Heathers' Eyes

The path back to Haeddre was quite the idyllic one. There was no sight of any of those horrid bugs which were supposedly roaming between the trees and thickets. The wind flutteringly wound in a gentle manner, and the trees seemed to be less loud about their seemingly judgemental rumours, for their rustling was silent. The white heathers amongst other flowers were gently being shoved by the wind, as they swayed wistfully along their bushes. Sooner or later, the familiar scent of honey would touch the air as instead of the pure white, were the pink heaths which were seemingly more fragrant. Two white butterflies were sitting on one of the bushes.

"I see not as to why ye would bring to this village but a wilted body." Someone's voice rang out. Standing before them was the familiarly sweet-scented person who had given them their task. Her face showed no expression, and though she face their direction, her gaze seemed to fall elsewhere as if th'on was not even acknowledging the body of Solidi. "I have seen, and I have listened. There is nothing a mere nymph like mine self can do for a human. Florae are this one's domain, I am merely blessed to be able to see further than most." She'd claim, seemingly sighing. "I would have preferred it that you left it where it fell. She is free from that wretched body, thus, tisn't necessary." The seer wove her hand stiffly.

"Urgently, why hath ye brought to this place that foul thing? Truly, you things are most audacious, so much so as that plagued place. I pray thee get rid of that immediately." She snidely refer to the egg that Shael assumedly held, although her expression, or lack thereof, didn't match her tone. It was quite obvious as to where she was supposedly referring to. "Now hark unto me," Ereike proceeded, "I must praise you all for your diligence in ridding these parts of those forsakened wretches. 'Tis fair for ye to be rewarded, yet, if any of thee hath a thing to ask, I would that thine ask ere then." Said she, as she'd blink for the first time today.

Jareth rallied behind Shael and Nox, who bore Solidi's body back to town. He made sure to stomp on the squirming newborns as he passed, but this effort was more spiteful instead of methodical genocide. The moment for retaliation seemed to have passed as a strange wind bid them to return--at least, that was the impression Jareth was left with. The sensation was supernatural in nature: absent of any verbalized instruction, he simply knew that it was time to return to the priestess.

Return they did. Ereike--or rather, her overpowering perfume--was waiting to ambush their senses upon coming within a stone's throw of her. The scarf once again obscured the lower half of Jareth's face as they drew near.

Upon revealing Solidi's fate, her fae master was unmoved, even going as far as suggesting that they should have left her corpse out in the field next to the bug carcasses. Is this what fae were like? Surely even a fae would see purpose in burying their fallen? Jareth was left speechless as he tried to process Ereike's detachment from her own underling.

His thoughts drifted to his own master, Nolan Isthmus. Jareth had disappeared so suddenly. He had been gone for so long. Had Master Nolan mourned him at all? Was he missed? Had he found a replacement apprentice? One thing after another had happened since Jareth's abduction, and even now, he had to return quickly to Michael so that they could travel even further away with the Leilosis monks. When Jareth finally returned to Ryken, would there even be anyone waiting for him? Should he even bother returning now?

Jareth's cloak whipped suddenly as sand swirled around him before suddenly falling to the ground. He stepped forward and met Ereike's gaze.

"Tell me where I might bury Solidi, so I can conclude my business here and be on my way," Jareth said. "Or shall I plant her right here in your square?"

Shael was still feeling a sense of shock after all of what had taken place but she did look over to Nox after picking up Solidi's body.

"Not a problem, I'll take it." The information gained from it could prove to be valuable after all.

Under normal circumstances she would have been pleased to hear Nox make that observation but at the moment she didn't feel much of anything. Shael replied matter of fact her tone rather plain as she was still taking in quite a bit of what had transpired..she examined the egg, letting Nox help deal with Solidi then. She did not crush any of the remaining, instead she held the egg gently. To Shael as tragic as these deaths had been, the insects hadn't actually done anything inherently wrong, they had just wanted to survive too. The bugs did not know that they had killed a child in a moral sense, all they knew is that there was food before them no doubt and that by killing and eating they could grow stronger and increase their chance of survival, not unlike higher forms of intelligence did. It looked so helpless in it's egg form, so vulnerable..how could something that delicate grow and cause so much destruction?

Of course Shael wasn't going to share those sorts of feelings with anyone else at the moment, it was hardly appropriate with the loss they had just experienced and even with this understanding that it was part of nature, she couldn't help but feel resentful toward the insects for the suffering they had caused. But even then she made sure it was well protected and was on her way.
---
Unfortunately by the time the group was in front of the Lady Ereike and that perfume scent, the words she spoke were far from satisfying. First she questioned why they had brought Solidi's body at all. Then she also didn't approve of the egg; but of course she didn't..for a nymph she certainly was judgmental it felt like towards an aspect of nature just because it didn't meet her criteria..this sort of judgmental almost ignorant attitude in Shael's opinion, almost reminded her about why she wasn't always the most fond of humans and their perspectives of the world..

She decided that she couldn't let this whole thing go on without at least speaking up, even if she didn't think it was going to be a very fruitful conversation she wanted to at least try, so she would respond to Lady Ereike in Sylvan, maintaining a serious tone.

<"Listen, I understand that as a Nymph there are certain sensibilities you may hold, while I can understand your perspective to an extent that it would be just as well that we left Solidi and let her become one with nature once again naturally as a fae,...there are customs which can be followed..which give respect to her passing, and whether or not you find them necessary, It would bring the others peace who had to witness her death..and allow them to properly pay respect. I also wish to add that it would be more becoming of you, if indicated some..form of remorse in the future, you may have had many apprentices before her but it was clear that she looked up to you..and wanted to be just like you, so I hope you can understand.">

Shael concluded, before speaking in Common once again, looking to Jareth.

"I would like to help see that she receives a proper burial too, if that's okay with you Jareth..after that I'll head back to the guild with the egg."

Once she saw the burial through and got the egg back hopefully Shael would be accepted into the Adventurer Guild for what they had done there that day, and she would be able to get stronger so she could save people like Solidi in the future, the only way to get stronger... Once she was accepted she could start taking on more quests and earning money which would be essential moving forward for her plans too..hopefully she'd be able to find proper party members too.

~'Nox'~

Nox was quick to catch the falling accessory with her foot, kicking it back up into the air where she would catch it upon Solidi's chest. The trinket seemed of some importance and so it was only right it be kept with Solidi save she actually managed to survive and died once again while seeking it out. Though as the group returned to town the reality of the situation sunk in. Solidi was indeed dead. Done for. Departed. There was no bringing her back. Though that being said, Nox was not surprised. After all, where she came from people died when they were run through with a spear. There was no grand resurrection or healing spell that could fix such a fate. To her knowledge, even in this world, there wasn't such. Granted she knew very little of this world and its magic. But Solidi was dead and Nox was not all that surprised.

What did surprise her though was how Ereike reacted to the sight of Solidi's corpse. It was stone cold. Nox disliked the woman already but this cemented the fact beyond redemption. Nox had no idea how races such as the fae might conduct burial rights or observe death but to act so disrespectfully toward the corpse of one's own student. The woman was a failure as a teacher. Disgusting! To go as far as to call Solidi's corpse an 'it', was absolutely inexcusable.

Looking down at the lifeless remains of Solidi, Nox was glad her hands were preoccupied for had they not been. Well, a stupid mistake could very easily have transpired as a result of the woman's disgusting words and mannerisms.

Jareth was the first to speak up and though Nox was still very much not a fan of the man she at least respected him a whole lot more than this 'seer'. Though what he had to say was short and sweet. It got right to the point. Solidi deserved a burial. Then as Shael began speaking in a tongue Nox couldn't understand. A thought struck her. Had she even seen a graveyard in this town?

Come to think of it, she hadn't... what she had seen though was... flowers. Several patches of flowers spread out sporadically in all directions around the town. Flowers the very same as the ones created from the corpses of those bugs by Ereike. The very same flowers served as a ward and protective field around the town. But if the flowers were created using the corpses of those bugs then... it couldn't be. "Those flowers. The ones that protect this town from wildlife and monsters. They're the remains of those villagers that have passed, aren't they? Whether friend or foe, those flower beds, they're all... you..."

Moving toward Jareth, Nox glared back toward the seer with disgust "Your light... it's sickening. I want nothing from you. I'll be attending this funeral and then heading back to the Guild with Shael. I don't want to spend any longer than is necessary within this garden of death. Farewell, Ereike. May your light never pierce the night."

Throughout the short time they had before reporting back at the village, Connor could not focus much on anything other than helping out in the final clean up. It’s already quite the long day, and the brief walk back provided some time to reflect on the events that he had just gone through.

They once again are standing in front of Lady Ereike. Although Connor already was not expecting much praise for their lukewarm results, he was still quite surprised by Lady Ereike’s cold indifference to Solidi currently being carried in. He wanted to speak up, but it was clear from what she is saying that she wouldn't care at all. Connor stood in place, frowning and gritting his teeth. He found it difficult to accept that someone that clearly looked up to her was simply treated as if she was disposable and easily replaced. She may appear humanoid, yet she does not behave like a human.

It seems that the others weren’t that fond of her either. The way they spoke their thoughts varied, but the sentiment was very much the same.

“...I have nothing else to ask.”

Connor didn’t want to trouble himself further staying here, and so chose to promptly follow along with the others.

“Let me come with you.”

Had he been stronger than he is now, there’s a possibility that things could have turned out differently. But it has already happened, and there’s no turning back. The bugs were driven off, so this should mean that he would officially be an actual adventurer once he gets back to the guild. There was some relief at the thought, but above everything else, the fire of determination ignited within Connor. Is this why his brother chose the path of an adventurer, when there are a lot of other opportunities for them back at home? To prevent whatever tragedies that might happen in this world? In any case, this has now given Connor the reason to get rid of any doubts in his mind about doing the same.

Shael… She was supposed to be doing this as part of an initiation just like him, wasn’t she? Including Jareth, Arkh, and Nox, they all seemed already experienced, they moved well. Was there a chance he could quickly learn and improve with help? Maybe once back at the guild…

Sigh…

Before anything else, he should see to it that Solidi would be given a proper burial…

Arkham Koenig

Arkham was too distracted trying to figure out his stance change from the day he arrived to today, he simply walked behind the group. Ruminating his actions, thoughts, and words. He almost crashed into Shael when they halted for Ereike. Arkham turned his focus on her. Her and her incendiary comments. Everyone was as angry as the previous one.

They all left one by one, until only Arkham remained. After some more thinking, considering what the others said, Arkham eventually laughed. He laughed for a few moments. "And here I was, thinking I was a terrible person." He sighed, taking a step forward, and extending his hand to Ereike. Using a noticeably less friendly tone "Give me my damn reward, so that I can leave your stinking town and hopefully never see you again" Foreseeing an ill-willed gift, Arkham added "I see you have no problem being disrespectful to others. So the very least I can hope for is that you at least are not hypocritical enough to curse me. I helped with your pest problem, give me the compensation. I want to give my farewells to the kid who greatly looked up to you, only for you to not even spare a thought for her other than ridding of her corpse..."

Ereike's eyes moved to meet Jareth who had begun to speak up first, although it brought to question if she truly was looking at him in the first place. It seemed as if she listened. "Thee who is equivalent to desert's dirt, I pray thee, an thee hath business other than this, it'd be in thy thoughts as to shun this and act with haste on what is most important. Thine acts and uses of thine abilities mayhaps hath caused injury to thy fellowship." Said she with chide, yet at a softened tone. Her head turned to Shael, as if waiting.

She'd point at the elf, her gaze this time firm to this moment. Her voice whistled, <"Speak not in the tongue of our kinsfolk if all you are going to do is nought but spit out dirtied water. You are no sylph, there should be something more than air and pollen in that head of yours."> In Sylvan the seer's voice was relatively unpleasant, <"Customs 'n propriety are but what boil-tongue'd splaenysh children bide to. Things of such be signs of attachment unto this plane. Someone of your reckoning should be privy to discard it like thorns awilt. Are you saying 'tis best to be akin to that which are insolent? Then best it be for thee to cut and carve thine ears to take after them."> The seer coldly remarked, her brows were slightly furrowed. Underneath that unlovely song were the birds who were chirping somewhere distant on a tree.

Ereike turned to Nox but said not a word. She stared with a gaze which spoke all that it needed—only saying that which was necessary. The grass swayed silently as the breeze brushed th'on way past. Perhaps it was your imagination, but mayhaps you saw someone by the corner, eyes widened at the sight of the girl's body. Likely a parent with a child just her age. One child less who'd play hide and seek by the trees and bushes. One child less being chased by a wasp. It was just one child less, yet in a small place like this, the difference would be all too inherent. It didn't matter to Ereike, she already lives in tomorrow's overmorrow. Right now, will pass.

After Connor's and Arkham's words, Ereike gazed yonder sometime else, she'd clap once. "It matters not where ye decide to bury that. Yet, I believe that the girl preferred she be buried beside he who she called her brother." She'd turn her head and point westward, "If ye wish, that body is far west from the temple's entrance; it may have been infernally disfigured, yet it is still the girl's kindred. It does not concern me what ye do or where ye bury the body. I had shown only what was of needed for Solidi, and that which ye hold is merely her vessel. 'Tis no longer her, 'tis nought but an empty house. Begone with it. I will gather and give ye thy goods momentarily." Said she bluntly. The seer then turned, walking away.

A [____]'s Feelings

Of course, the girl would receive her proper farewell. The seer, who seemingly holds power over the village and acts as its chief, was not the only person who resided within the small place of Haeddre. There were people who did care for Solidi, and since the village is small, they cared all the more for her death. Primarily, a daisy-like woman would help the most out of the villagers in preparing a proper grave in which Solidi may rest.

Although three or so children attended, they all seemed much too young to comprehend the concept of not being able to see the girl again. Perhaps maybe hours ago they were playing hide and seek, and not too long from now, the girl had rallied everyone into the temple. Either way, there were a few who wept and others who stared solemnly. The girl received a burial proper and was laid into the earth. A lone butterfly fluttered onto the grave marker.

The adventurers who had helped with this task would receive their rewards in due time; be it coin, treasure and recognition within their field. However, to say the final ending of this tale was satisfactory is far from correct... Or perhaps it was? It depends on the person.

Here in the Auburn forest where the moon shone dimly and the sun's light burnt hot. Here in the Auburn forest, deep in the south, a village by the borders of Ryke, where the smell of heathers overtakes the air. Here in the Auburn forest, deep in the south, ghastly creatures like insects now lay deepened within the earth, some stay scattered, however, they too shall sooner lay deepened within the earth. Here in the Auburn forest, deep in the south, an invasion of ghastly creatures was averted. And here, in the Auburn forest, nothing of importance had been lost.

With the exception of those who experienced first worlds, you are the first trainees to conclude the world's training and be eligible for world rps. Congratulations. Looked like everyone learned a lot as far as how their characters worked, the mechanics, and perhaps even developed some teamwork for later. Looks like the post frequency of the rp may have made the rp feel long for some, but it looks as though most of the rp was spent getting the experiences necessary for future efforts.

Aftermath:
The efforts of the trainees resulted in the village of Haeddre being spared a buggy fate. This also extended to the county of Sadek experiencing an early incursion of the bugs being prevented. Contact with the bugs did solidify the threat they pose and the growing need for something to be done before nations besides the empire began succumbing to them.

Rewards:
(aside from characters that received a partial participation, all may choose 2 from the following rewards: )

1. Asset [World Certification] - character has experienced a world rp or a world training and can participate in World Rp's and their various kinds. Unlike the common populace, the character has faced death and has grown in their abilities and teamwork.

OR

2. Title [Hero of Haeddre Village] - character's efforts on behalf of Haeddre village are recognized. Villagers are now more likely to be hospitable or grateful and accommodating to character while in Haeddre area (village, forests)

OR

3. Title [Ryken Adventurer E] - character is an adventurer of the ryken adventurer guild. known for being proficient in a number of terrains including water, Ryken adventurers tend to be diverse and capable. Grade E - character has shown promise for the life and is no longer required to participate in basic training or mundane odd jobs. While they still have a ways to go, they at least know the basics now.
