Emmalia said, "Well I expect I would be! I remember screaming, panicking, and then things go blank after that. It's almost like I vamped out, but... I don't know why that would happen, I didn't kill anything." She was confused and concerned about th as the issue, but also about callum. She moved to lay next to him and put her hand over the wound on his chest, so lightly he didn't even feel it. "Oh, lover...," she said quietly, sadly.

Callum didn't like hearing her sadness all over again, it pained him to hear her like that the first time. His hand went to Emmalia's side her held her close, but not very tight to keep from hurting himself. "Well, you did smell my blood. That could've done something."

"I-I suppose so," she said queitly, nestling her head into the crook of his neck. "Maybe I smelled your blood and I was angry at the attacker.... How did I behave? Did I look normal?" She was trying to puzzle this out.

Emmalia smiled slightly. "Seems even when I'm a little 'off' I know my priorities." She gave his neck a light kiss, then quietly said, "One last question, then you need to rest. What color were my eyes?"

Emmalia nodded slightly, then softly said, "Thank you for telling me. We'll figure this out. For now, rest, okay? You need to heal." She glanced over to the door and saw the pool of dried blood from where she had killed the murderer, and shivered slightly, knowing she had no recollection of that, but she didn't say anything. She would take the time to ponder for herself when he was sleeping.

Cal nodded slowly. He never knew just how tiring it was to do absolutely nothing, the bed was so warm and comfortable. He gave Emmalia a quick kiss before closing his eyes and drifting off to sleep.

The next day, the captain of the Guard entered their chambers and informed Callum that they had learned who the failed assassin was, and they learned who his family was. The Guard Captain, still unsure if Callum was still being a vengeful warlord, asked if Callum wanted the man's family executed.

Callum frowned and waved his hand dismissively. "Send them an envoy of gifts, and the appropriate compensation in gold for his death. Also, give the man a proper burial." Cal spoke calmly.

Emmalia squeezed Cal's hand and smiled up at him, proud of her fiance.

The Guard Captain seemed a bit surprised, but nodded, then said, "Of course. It will, however, be a closed casket funeral, of course." He nodded politely to Emmalia, who blushed, as she had been the one to break the man's skull.

"Yes, of course." Callum said, not blaming either party for their actions. He had been unfair with his ruling and deserved to be stabbed, and the man had attempted to assassinate him, so he deserved to be mauled. "Let me know if the date and I shall arrive personally."

The Captain said, "Ah, M'Lord, I don't think that's the best idea, his family will not be happy to see you in any way shape or form, neither will the other villagers."

Emmalia looked it at Callum and quietly said, "He's right. It might make them more angry if you did go."

"Emmalia we killed this man, we need to show sympathy." Callum said, knowing they probably couldn't be killed either way, although no one else knew.

"But perhaps showing sympathy is leaving them to grieve?" Though if they did that, then the family might think that Callum was just sending them money to keep quiet or cover up for his wrongs with gold. It was quite the conundrum.

Callum groaned and stroked the stubble forming on his chin. "I suppose that's another outcome. What do you believe, my trusted advisor?" He asked, looking up at Emmalia with a wry smile.

"I think maybe a hand written letter is a good compromise. Specifically saying that the man's life was worth more than gold." She smiled, glad to be Callum's "advisor" again.

Callum nodded. "A wonderful idea, love. As always." Cal put a hand on hers. "And as your payment for being so wonderful..." He brought Emmalia down for a gentle kiss, hiding the pain he felt in his chest well.

Emmalia returned the kiss, then tucked her head into the crook of his neck so her wouldn't have to lean and cause himself pain. The Guard Captain was dismissed. Em kissed Callum's neck lightly and said, "There. Everything has been righted now. But you know, you never did tell me who that Steward was, the one who's advised you?"

"He was one of the ghosts stuck in this castle. I banished him once my mind was right, but he managed to find what made me tick and took advantage of it. Hopefully Death has a punishment ready for his wretched soul."

Emmalia nodded slightly. "We do have that to be thankful for."

The Captain of the Guard returned with a letter. "For Lord Callum, from Lord Aman."

Callum raised an eyebrow and accepted the letter (after Emmalia got up for him, of course) and read it's contents. "That'll be all." He spoke as he read the letter. Once finished, Callum frowned and looked up at Emmalia, handing her the letter.

The letter had a short paragraph that was basically Aman asking Callum why he was suddenly so rough with his villagers, then it was a request for help. Aman claimed that never had any hunters ever been so successful as Callum and Emmalia, and he required their help. People in his domain were dying brutal, gory deaths, and nobody knew why or how, all that was known was that the corpses found were quite a mess, and that their wasn't much link between the victims. Aman begged that they come at their soonest availability.
