Callum smiled at Emmalia remark. Her sass towards her parents was obviously a verbal version of Callum's physical attacks against his father. While Callum dethroned his father physically, Emmalia was causing chaos in the household mentally. "You know, your assertive side is quite... spectacular." He said and gave her hand a light squeeze.

"Thank you," she sighed, "But really I was just being a bitch without snapping. I could have bitched them out more, but fuck that. Cassian needs men, I won't ruin that." Very quietly, she added, "But if I so much as learn that Ander is here, I will hunt him down and kill him, and they cannot stop me, Cassian be damned."

Callum nodded. "We must look at the bigger picture. As long as we get the units in the end, I couldn't care what you say to them. I'd back you up if it was assured." Callum spoke, and slowed down to kiss her cheek gently. "I love you, Emmalia."

Callum nodded his head. "I do too. We'll be home soon enough, I promise. We just get our units, have a meal, and we leave. Simple as that."

Emmalia just slowly nodded in response. The rest of their free tome, Emmalia showed him to the library and her old room, which was large enough but dark, with heavy drapes over the windows and a full-length mirror facing her bed. Even though she couldn't see herself in the mirror, she wanted to break it, because as a child she had hated it, having her every move shown back to her all of the time, making it feel like she was being watched even when alone. They didn't stay in her room for long, she couldn't really stand being there.

Eventually they were brought by a servant to the large dining hall, and sat at a rather small table so they would actually be near her parents. She didn't make eye contact, except for glaring at them.

Callum reached his hand over and held Emmalia's gently. He knew she wasn't having a very fun time, who would in her situation? He tried to make up for it by aleviating the stress. He figured two sets of shoulders made it easier to carry the burden. "Everything will be fine. We'll be out of here in no time."

Emmalia looked over and gave him a slight smile, then looked down at her plate of food that she couldn't eat. All she did was drink some wine to take the edge off. "So, we're you just not going to tell us that our only daughter was getting married?" Her mother asked suddenly.

"That was the plan, yes," Emmalia replied with a shrug. "I even planned on avoiding the spotlight of Lady for a while just to make sure you didn't know where I was."

Callum listened to their interactions quietly for a moment. He didn't like what either of them were saying - He didn't like seeing his fiance get treated so unfairly, but Emmalia was still talking to her mother. He believed that as long as you were being the better person, you won the argument. But the way Emmalia was taking the situation, it seemed like she'd rather stoop to their level. "Would you like my wine?" He offered Emmalia quietly, hoping it'd be able to make her calm down a bit.

Emmalia looked up at Callum and shook her head. She didn't want to get too drunk.

The next question was posed again, by her mother. "Why did you become a dark huntress?"

"I wanted to help people," Emmalia said rather quietly. She glanced up and met her mother's eyes. This conversation was going to go badly, when could tell.

"That's ridiculous. They need to help themselves, get over themselves and their weakness." Lady LaFaren had a haughty tone to her voice, more and more like how she used to always talk.

"Fifteen," Emmalia said quietly.

"Fifteen?" Lady LaFaren asked imperiously.

"Fifteen thieves I've executed. They didn't even prey on weakness, they preyed upon whoever passed. They were repeat offenders. And they would have continued being so had I not killed them as I'm allowed to." Emmalia spoke perfectly calmly and clearly. In all her years, she never thought she'd have to tell her parents how many thieves she had killed. But she didn't take pride in it.

"Ah, well, thieves deserve as much," Lady LaFaren said as she tried to recover from that information. "But you shouldn't be the one executing them. Leave that to the peasants."

"Twelve. Twelve thieves I've collared and released because they weren't bad people. They were put in a bad situation. The Guards wouldn't have let them go. I gave them what they needed and they left to live in peace." That much, Emmalia was proud of

"She also helped me gain my throne." Callum said, knowing it should impress them. "She and I helped uncover and prepare for the coup going on currently. We also saved Lord Cassian a few times if I recall." At this point he was just showing off, but he felt that it would only shut Emmalia's parents up better. "Don't be modest, dearest."

"I don't like to brag," Em chuckled lightly. Seemed they were getting the upper hand now.

Lord LaFaren said, "That's quite impressive you two. Still, though.... seems inappropriate for a young Lady."

"She's not a young lady anymore, miss. She's not only an adult, but she's my fiance. If anything, she'll have a higher position than you do now, being the wife of a warlord."

"Actually, if she didn't marry you, she'd still be the sole inheritor of the Western lands and all the LaFaren riches, putting her higher than you in the way of land and population, and quite probably gold as well." Lord LaFaren had a smirk on his face like he'd just won a chess match.

"That may be so but in wartime I would have more political pull. As it is, I'm currently going to be both anyway, so no need to fight about it all." Emmalia was surprised at her taking on the role of mediator, but she did, just to keep the topic from progressing.

"Well as our Lady spoke, with me, she'll not only take control of the western holds, but now she'll also have a warlord for a husband." Callum could feel himself grow rather unsettled as his adrenaline began to pump. His superiority was in question, and he would not back it down.

"A fine pick for such a war-like girl. A decent head for stratedy, at least," her mother said with a disappointed sigh.

Emmalia cleared her throat. "And should noble titles be stripped, I'm also in also class my own as a dark huntress. So it's not like I won't have plenty to do." With Callum being stubborn and practically challenging her parents, she had to say something.

Callum sighed heavily and realized that he was becoming the way he had warned Emmalia about. He attempted to calm down a bit and gripped Emmalia's hand gently. "Either way, no matter what happens I'm sure Emmalia will be happy."

Emmalia nodded. "I will be. I'll marry Callum, appoint a manager here, I can make the big decisions, and still live with Callum."

"And who would the manager be?" Lord LaFaren asked.

"My soon to be sister-in-law, Camilla." Of course Emmalia hadn't asked Camilla yet, but for now it would work to ease her parents' minds.

For all Callum knew she had already talked this through with Camilla, and was rather shocked. He would ask her later how she knew her parents would give her the land. "A perfect manager. She's proven worthy multiple times."

"In fact, she's managing Callum's lands now." And hopefully all was going well with that.

"Ah, well, in the family, that's good," Lord LaFaren said with a nod of approval.

Callum had a small smile tugging on his face. It wasn't so bad, now that they had officially put them into an inferior position. "The food is lovely." Callum commented, unknowing if they had tried to poison him or not. It was something a lot of people tried to do to him, but luckily, Callum wasn't able to die from poisoning anymore, since he was already dead.

"Yes, our chef is from Capath, and though his price is high, the food is always worth it." Lady LaFaren was happy to brag about her special, expensive chef. She looked over at Emmalia's plate. "What's wrong with the food, Emmalia?"

Em had to think of an excuse, quick. "I'm just not hungry, that's all, it smells delicious, but I'm not feeling too well lately. That's all."

"Probably feeling homesick is all, our castle is very cosy." Callum spoke quietly and gave her hand a gentle squeeze. He gave her a look that seemed to question if she really was alright. He knew she didn't eat normal food, but he wasn't sure how she was feeling about her parents.

Emmalia squeezed his hand back and gave him a slight smile.

Lady LaFaren said, "We have a wonderful doctor here, as well as a healer, they're free for you to use if you like."

"No, thank you, I'm fine," Em said, trying hard not to respond too quickly like she was hiding something, which, of course, she was. More and more she wanted to get away from there.....

"Suit yourself, then. I must ask, Emmalia, how did you avoid all of those hunting parties? Some of those people wound up dead." Lord LaFaren was very careful in his wording.

Em said more lies. "I just moved somewhere else whenever I thought they were close. I admit to killing two of the men, but they weren't bringing me back, they were attacking me. I defended myself. The others, I suppose a monster got them."

Callum gave Emmalia's hand a gentle squeeze. He decided not to say anything, since he wasn't present for this time and didn't want to intrude on her and her parents having an actual conversation.
