Callum gave her hand a gentle squeeze and then said, "I'll be back with you in a bit, I need to warn my guard commander," He told Em, and gave her a parting kiss.

"Thank you. And remember, leave the vampirism out of it," Emmalia said. She went to see Camilla. When she had realized Lanthaire was a vampire, she had told a guard to tell Camilla to stay in her room with an armed guard. She got to Camilla's room and dismissed the guards. "Hi, Camilla."

Camilla looked up from her seat and exhaled in relief. "Oh good, you're okay. I was sent to my room and didn't know why, I was afraid something happened to you or Cal."

"No. A vampire, and more than a minor one at that, held and audience with Cal and I. I was concerned he was after you," Emmalia said.

"He wanted to thank Cal and I for killing a wild one that had escaped his coven. He referred to them as his black family, but he called the one in charge his Lord. Also, they're not vampiric nobility of any clan." Emmalia sighed and took a seat in a big, vacant chair. "I fear they may be a faction looking for any favor before a battle. You know how clans and factions and covens fight."

Camilla nodded. "Some days I wish I could take it all back. This vampire thing has really started to rule over me." She let out a sigh. "But, I did want immortality. I guess this is just a side effect."

Em was staring vacantly at the floor, but did smile a bit at Camilla's words. "I never even chose this," she said, barely louder than a whisper. Camilla knew how she had been killed - she had never had an option about it. It had merely been luck that she had gotten lost in the forest and was forced to hunt animals instead of humans, and so retained her sanity.

"Oh well. You and I can just... Watch the world go by, year by year, century by century." Camilla stopped for a moment before saying, "Have you thought about what you'll do when you... Outlive Callum?"

Emmalia glanced up at Camilla, then said, "Well... Out of respect for Callum, I cannot explain the background to my words, but... I do not think I will."

Camilla wasn't expecting this answer and took a moment to formulate a response. "What do you mean? Are you going to find a cure for Vampirism?"

"I sure hope he hasn't been keeping secrets from me." Camilla said in a threatening tone. "Especially after how he reacted when he found out I was a vampire."

Emmalia sighed heavily. "Camilla... Please. Our lives are very, very complicated." She leaned back in a chair with her head in one hand. She had gotten stuck pondering her existence as a vampire and how much she hated it.

Camilla gave Emmalia a moment to breathe before continuing their topic. "Is it safe for me to leave my room? I'm a bit of a night owl."

Camilla remained silent and took up reading a book to help pass the time. After a bit, she lowered it and asked, "You really shouldn't think too hard. Take your mind off of it somehow."

"You are right," Em said with a sigh. "I'm going to find Callum." She got up and walked toward Callum's office, expecting him to be there.

Callum was indeed in his office, writing on a piece of paper. When he noticed Emmalia, he quickly finished what he was doing and set it aside. "Hello my love."

Callum put an arm around Em in a side hug when she approached. "Finishing up a few deeds is all love. What brings you here?"
