Callum frowned as he dropped his sword and went for Emmalia without a second thought. He eased her down to their knees and looked her in the eyes. "Do you need a medic? How badly are you hurt?"

Em blinked slowly and quietly said, "I-It all hurts.... My head is so loud. He's in my head, I don't like it." For the moment, she seemed somewhat in control of herself. "I can see everything he makes me do... he made me kill her. I can't even hear my own thoughts, I have no control...."

Callum tried to keep his anger condensed as he thought of ways to help. "What can help these burns? Let's get you to a healer. Come on, I'll carry you if your legs won't." He stood tall and offered his hands to her.

Emmalia stayed kneeling and shook her head. "He's still in my head. Right now he's not focused on me, but whenever he is - I might try to kill you. I can't risk that." She drew her shortsword and tried to throw it away behind her, but she couldn't get her hand to open to let it go.

Callum held her hand and set it down gently. "Everything will be fine Emmalia. We'll find him sooner or later. Maybe getting you far enough away can stop his influence over you."

Emmalia nodded slightly. She still seemed very much out of it, and almost emotionally void. With his help, she stood, and walked with him toward wherever he felt like leading her. At one point, Em stopped in her tracks, then quietly said, "He knows where we are. Where you are. Cal, you should run, I don't know what he's planning."

"I'm not running Emmalia. If he comes to fight I'll kill him. I'm not leaving my wife's side until she's better." He gave Emmalia's hand a gentle squeeze.

Em just nodded slightly, unable to really think much on anything said. "I like that... wife. I like you saying it." She shuddered and closed her eyes, then wince. It was getting hard to think again.

Callum held her tight in his arms for a moment. "Em, I swear I'm going to find this mage and make him suffer for what he's doing to you. I swear it on all the gods that ever were. He will pay."

Em barely heard his voice as she started muttering to herself, "Not again, no, stop," then began struggling against his grasp. The mage was summoning her to his side, so she had to go to him.

Callum gripped her shoulders, "No, stop this!" Callum said. "I know you're listening mage. Leave Emmalia alone. She doesn't deserve this!"

Em continued to struggle against him, then twisted around to try to attack him so she'd be free. The mage had no intention of releasing Emmalia. Soon, though, she stopped struggling and went still in his arms, her body having reached its limit.

Callum held her in his arms and kissed her head before standing up, holding Emmalia tight as he walked off towards a healers building. He set her down on the bed and told the mage he'd give whatever gold he demanded to try his best to help and keep quiet.

The healer seemed hesitant, not only because of the black blood, but because of the extent of the burns on her palms. Despite doing the best he could, the burns only healed minorly. He apologized to Callum and said that it was likely because of what she was and whatever caused the wounds - but he would keep their secret, and provide them with a safe place to stay.

Callum thanked the healer and stayed by Emmalia's side, holding her hand and keeping her company as she lay there in pain. "I'm so sorry, Emmalia..."

It wasn't until some hours later that she woke, and when she did, it was with a quiet gasp. The noise in her head was still there, but she could actually fight it for the moment. She looked over at Callum and quickly said, "I need to go - no, no, you need to know, he's still trying to get me to go to him - I need to go -no, dammit! Hes trying to get me to go to him, or kill you. I can't control it, I'm not even control of my thoughts, Cal, don't let me kill you or anyone else."

"I won't Emmalia, I promise you." He held her hand. "Can you tell where he's at? I'll he able to kill him if you do." Callum didn't want to leave Emmalia's side, but he could fix this if he went after the source of the problem - that mage.

Emmalia shook her head. "I have no idea. I think I can only tell when I give in and you won't be able to learn it from me then." She squeezed his hand and said, "It's getting loud again... you should go. I don't want to hurt you."

Callum gave her hand a squeeze. "I'm going to look for ways to track down the mage. I'll be back soon for you Emmalia. I won't be gone for too long."

Em just nodded and fought against the mage for as long as she could so Callum could get a head start. It got worse as the mage tempted her, making her think of what what a relief it would be to give in. Finally she couldn't stay in control and let herself succumb, just so the pain would ease. The mage summoned her to his side again, so she got up and started running towards him. As she went, she came across a small child, a young girl actually. Something made her pick up the girl and keep running. When she got to the mage, she set the child down, but the child didn't run - she seemed dazed, and was clearly under the mage's influence. The mage already had a mystic circle on the ground, prepared for the ritual. Emmalia held out her hand and let him use a silver blade to cut her palm so her blood would fall on the seal. Next was the blood of an innocent, shed by the unnatural. Even under the mage's control, though, the thought of killing that girl... she couldn't do it. For the first time, she fought enough to actually make a difference, and managed to turn to the mage and lash out, knocking him to the ground. He growled and got up, grabbing the silver dagger and hitting her across the face with the hilt, leaving a cut and a burn on her cheek. Her reflexes were slowed - everything was, she was still resisting him. She managed to get up again and put on her gauntlet, going for his throat, but again, he easily knocked her away, and before she could get up, he held the dagger to her wrist, forcing second and third degree burns into her flesh. At this point, she couldn't fight anymore, and took the abuse. Satisfied that she wouldn't fight, the mage told her to kill the child, and without hesitation, she did.

Callum had been wondering the streets of the city for a while, hoping to find any trace of the mage. He asked civilians, guards, holy men, children, anyone who might be able to help in any way. Eventually, though, he came across a guard who informed Callum that Emmalia had been spotted running into the forest recently. Callum thanked the guard and went out in the direction she was spotted leaving in. It didn't take Callum very long to find them, as Emmalia had been leaving heavy footprints in the mud. "I told you to leave you alone." Callum said, drawing his blade.

Emmalia looked up from the blood bath she had made. Her whole body was trembling lightly as she looked at him. She was horrified by what she did, but she couldn't even move of her own will.

The mage scoffed. "Yes, and I never said I would. You're lucky I can only keep one person controlled at once, or I'd just have you kill yourself." He gestured to Emmalia, who hesitated as she tried to fight his control. He barked something at her in another language and she winced, then moved between Callum and the mage - if Callum wished to get to the mage, he would have to get past Emmalia.

Callum looked over at Emmalia, lowering his sword a bit when he realized she was covered in blood. "That's not yours, is it...?" He asked, almost fallen then. Cal saw the dead girl though, and his sadness turned into anger. "Why are you doing this?!" He asked, ready to kill the mage.

"By completing the ritual, I'm that much stronger - and being on human blood, Emmalia is stronger too." The mage smirked, then said, "Emmalia, end this."

Em tried to even make herself look Callum in the eyes, but she couldn't. She drew her shortsword, but that opened the stabbing on her hands from the burns, causing her blood to spill. In a quick movement, she went in to cut his throat.

Cal's anger of the situation was peaking, since he was tired of having hid wife manipulated and his power questioned. The short tempered side of him came out, and he used his sword to deflect Emmalia's, and lowered himself to lift her up by her waist. Cal dropped her to the ground hard enough to hopefully daze her a bit, but not cause damage. Callum then decided the best choice was to go for the mage - so he did. He charged with his sword towards the mage and swung valiantly.
