The mutant dies with a pathetic whine, fingers clutching spasmodically at the shiv.

You have gained 1 Rad.

There is nothing of value on the body.

Balls. Alright, back the way we came, to the mount overlooking the courtyard. If whatever was coming out after us earlier is still there, maybe we could take some potshots with the trasharrows, or at the very least jump on its head, axe first.

Peering through, you can see a short ledge that was the bottom of the mount. You could step out onto that, and from this angle there's no other way to see the exact spot where the monster came through.

Below, a hunched and vaguely ape-like creature twice or perhaps even three times your size lurks. It's limbs are thick with muscle, but the skin is drying and flaking. Sunken eyes peer up at you, the wide mouth so dry the skin of its lips must tear if parted. Its head is topped by a shallow hole with a puddle of brackish water at the bottom.

You know, I was gonna suggest fillin' the damn thing full of arrows, but yeah, wave hello to that ugly bastard.

You wave.

The Desiccated Kappa stares for a moment with drying, gummy eyes - and then leaps with fist extended.

Dodge roll - 3d12.

Nah, fuck dodging. It leaps to us, we leap to that fucker, axe to the face style. I mean, I'll still roll dodge anyway, but the intent is break its teeth.

You misjudge the roll, avoiding the fist but striking the dirt with your axe just off to the right, rolling against as you hit the ground and rising to your feet a few feet behind the monster. The Dessicated Kappa shatters the ledge on which you stood, head already turning to try and track you.

Slash at its hamstrings with the axe as it tries to turn around.

Yeah get up close and personal so it can't use it's extended reach, and target weak points. Hamstrings, maybe Achilles tendon.

You narrowly manage to cut the creature's ankle, but it's not deep. Still, a decent place to start.

The Dessicated Kappa hisses and spins rapidly on the spot, trying to swipe you with an arm as it turns to face you.

We gotta continue rolling out of the way, then... Well, water is life here, right? Getting this fucker to spill theirs outta their head hole might swing the fight heavily in our favour considering it's built like a brick.

Stick close to it, 'cause Kirko has the right idea. Don't let it use its reach.

So roll under the swing, then pop up and jam the shiv into one of its eyes.

Great idea, how tall is the thing again? If it's incredibly tall we might be able to do that. But going for weak spots like the eye is a fantastic idea.

You narrowly avoid the swing and make a clean hit on the monster's chin - it doesn't lean quite far enough for you to get the eyes. You're spattered with gelid blood and the beast roars.

The axe is lodged in it's jaw, will you pull it out (no roll) or attempt to pull the head forward to spill the water (Strength Roll).

Thornaxe really good this particular trick. Other weapons couldn't do it.

Let's try for a strength roll I think.

@Kirko, nah, I don't thinkwe get 3 die for this particular roll. Our Strength is only 1 after all. But even discounting the latter 2 die, we'd still have an 11, so yeah, let's go for a yank and tank.

Our stats are in the drop down menu underneath the Nameless Mutant sidebar. Since we have Dexterity 3, I'd guess that's why our dodge rolls have 3 dice, but our Strength is only 1, so I'd use the same logic to assume it'd be only 1 die.

Nah, like I said, you got an 11 on that roll, and it's not good to look a gift horse in the mouth. But for later on, yeah, strength strats probably aren't our go to plan of action.

You drag the beast's head down more, hanging off the haft of your weapon. It bellows and bathes you in its foetid breath, but as its jaws snap shut the foul-smelling, corrupted water splashes on your head and shoulders.

The Kappa rears back, and you're bowled across the courtyard.

Panting and struggling, the monster struggles back to its feet and knuckles, but it's clearly badly weakened. Slow. Sorrowful. It begins tortuously stumbling toward you.

I suggest you take a post to keep your distance and regenerate Stamina.
