Jane spent the following hour trying to clean up the blood. Jasper, after playing doctor yet again, came to finish up the rest, and shooed Jane off to bed. The woman would hardly be able to sleep after such a sight, but at least she didn't have to clean up something so foul and possibly poisonous to her.
Jasper finally returned to his room for the night. He tried to read a novel in candlelight, but he ended up falling asleep with his face in the book, buried under a pile of blankets in the tight corner of his room. He woke up to the faint, distant sound of a bell, just at sunrise.
He cleaned himself up and carried his book over to the room with their guest, along with another blanket, a change of clothes, and a glass of water. He put his ear up to the door and listened for several moments before hesitantly opening the door. The door bumped against the leg of a man laying on the floor near the door. He was incredibly fit, his skin darkened from years of being exposed to sun. His shoulder length hair was dirty, but otherwise healthy.
The butler tossed the blanket over him, and let himself into the room and shut the door behind him. The man groaned quietly and stirred, but didn't quite wake just yet. Rather than disturbing him, Jasper put the clothes down and the glass of water on the floor a little ways a way, and took a seat with his book in the meantime.
