Realistic or Modern From The North With Fury (Always Accepting)

Briana's stare shot up to the stairs as she heard the roof of her home collapse, "No..." she cried, she took to the stairs, passing Sadime on the wway up. She needed to save her belongings, the home was all she had, and now she was about to lose it, she had to save the little that she had. Briana burst into the bedroom again, pushing passed Arvid to get to her hiding spot under the bed. She pulled out a small box out from under the bed, the smoke clouding her vision, coughing as she held the box tightly to her person. Briana crawled towards the cabient that had been knocked over, her clothes scattered on the floor, she grabbed at what she could, trying to collect as much as she could carry. She had gone from being free from her abusive marriage to homeless. Her coughing getting too much, the flames making the room hot, beads of sweat collecting on her brow as she desperately collected what she could from the floor, avoiding the flames.

Argeus sat down on a fence and watched as smoke bellowed out of the house and the fire began spreading. Argeus was very nonchalantly waiting for the occupants within to escape the house so that he would once again have the advantage he needed in a fight against such massive warriors as the Vikings.

Now that he thought about it he could just leave the area change his face again, his cloths and meet up with Sigrid to discuss a contract. He had seen a few dead scouts on his way back so perhaps he would borrow one of their faces to make things easier on himself.....

The room seemed to be alight within seconds. Choking black smoke billowed out of every crack and Arvid could already feel the intense heat licking his face. He simply growled as the warrior-woman scurried down th stairs. He'd always have tomorrow to drive a blade through her chest. It wasn't worth chasing after her right now. Arvid was about to dash down the flight of stairs, when that same girl shoved past him. She looked terrified as she scrabbled around her flaming home, collecting the bits of her life that still remained. Looking down at her, Arvid thought he could just leave her. She was just some local after all. On the other hand, he still never had his way with her. Gripping the woman's arm, the Viking practically dragged her away from the bed, smoke stinging his eyes and causing them to water, a wooden beam, alive with embers even fell just feet away from them. "Comman, you!" He yelled above the roar of the fire, still leading her down the stairs.

@Sharkiee

As Briana was dragged out of the room she had dropped most of the items she had tried desperately to salvage, kicking a little as he dragged her away. The small wooden box she had recovered from under the bed held tighting to her chest, the only thing she had managed to save, she took one more look at the body that was her husband, before finally giving up and allowing the viking to drag her to the stairs. The smoke had masked her with a grey colour over her face as she had dodged the flames trying to collect her belongings, her lungs hurt and she was coughing from it all. Her dress had been scorched a little from her careless actions, she noted this as she followed the large man down the stairs, a sudden sob beg from her, she had now lost everything, and the damn viking had now saved her life twice.

@John Raptorfist

The first thing Arvid realized as he finished dashing down the staircase was the door was closed. Great. By this point, the large man had to squint in order to see, tears from the smoke streamed down his face, making him look as though he was in grieving. He put his shield in front of him as a brace before charging forward, he hit the door solidly, but it did not give, only buckling. Arvid didn't want to die like this, stuck in a burning house like a hog on a spit. If he was going to die, the northman wanted it to be on the battlefield. Charging forward with every more vigor, he slammed into the door, the wood cracked as the frame finally gave way and toppled over. Turning back to the sobbing woman, he growled, tossing her into the grass outside her home rather ungracefully before stumbling outside himself, coughing with a grin on his lips.

@Sharkiee @Leusis

Briana hit the grass hard, the box slipping from her grasps, boucing forwards. A little winded Briana sat up looking around her desperately for it, she scurried towards it, collecting it in her hands. She opened it, picking out a rabbits foot from the box, Briana ran her finger along the soft fur, she looked up at the Viking again, turning so no one could see the contents of her box. She dropped the foot back into it, mixing in with the various shells, feathers and other things she had collected, nothing of real value in the box, just tokens of beauty in her eyes. Briana closed the box holding it tight, she listened to the crackling of her home as it went up in flames, she stared down at the box in her hands, she was in mourning of her life, she should have run as soon as she was thrown outside but what would the point of that be. Her eyes burned from the smoke as the tears ran from her eyes, she ignored it as she sat on her knees sobbing over her box.

@John Raptorfist

Arvid's triumphant grin faded as he eyed the red-haired woman he had tossed into the grass. She was rifling through a box, but he couldn't tell what was in it. He rubbed his eyes, as the sting of the smoke was still prevalent. Coughing, Arvid took a swig out his waterskin, letting the cool liquid wash the sooty feeling from his throat. He turned to the girl once more, he crouched down and held out the water skin to her. "Drink." He said rather sternly, his deep blues eyes glinting in the fading light.

@Sharkiee

She took the waterskin reluctantly, sniffing the top of it, she held it to her lips, letting the water fill her mouth, swallowing loudly. She hadn't realized how dry her mouth was til then, the water refreshing her throat, she took a big breath in through her mouth letting the breath out through her nose. Briana looked back up at Arvid, glaring at him, this wouldn't have happened if he had left her house alone. She threw the waterskin at him, "This is your fault" she growled, she was aware he didn't understand her, but she needed to direct her anger at someone, and he seemed fit to wear it.

@John Raptorfist

With the red haired woman safely out Argeus rifled through his robes and once again donned the face of the old man. Putting the face on took a bit of working something only the assassins of the Faceless God would understand. When he did get the face on Argeus man ran up to Briana and knelt down beside her, " Thank God your safe! Come quickly before the savages do more than burn your house down. " Argeus said already acting like and old man pulled on her gently to get her away from the large Viking next to her. With a cane to go with his old man facade Argeus was forced to limp along everywhere as he tried to lead Briana away from her burning home.

@Sharkiee @John Raptorfist @Leusis

A small distance away from The Viking and red haired girl, Sadime, was bent over, clutching her chest in pain, coughing loudly, trying to regain her breath. dark red hair, nearly covering her face.

A smoke taste filled her mouth and lungs, making it harder for her to catch her breath. She leaned up against the tree for support, and was clearly out in the view for anyone to see, not even knowing the Viking was such a short distance away, she continued to weakly cough and catch her breath.

Today was supposed to be the most important day of his life , the day he would rightly be king of all Wessex , yet as the Castle bustled with activity , he sat here in his study , inevitably thinking of the viking threat , until he hears a knock on the door .

Æthelred :"Come on in"

a pot-belied monk carrying a number of manuscripts walks in and places them haphazardly on a nearby table .

Monk : "M'lord , here are the manuscripts you ordered oh and the governors of the boroughs have sent a letter thanking your excelency for the tax cuts , altough the clergy isn't pleased with you taxing the bishoprics and even the churches"

Æthelred considered the predicament he was in , it wasn't great being at odds with the clergy but this was a time of crisis and hence he thought the clergy should contribute to the realms expenses .

Æthelred: "No matter , I shall deal with them at a later date , for now is there any news from the freesia?"

Monk: "Yes M'lord , the shipwrights we asked for will be on their way"

Æthelred :"Excellent , I-"

As Æthelred is about to finish the scullery maid barged in , looking quiet alarmed .

Sculley maid : "M'lord the dukes have already assembled , the ceremony starts in but a few minutes *out of breath* and we have been lookin-"

Æthelred got up on his feet and continued to his quarters in order to be clothed in hurry without a word to the maid .

x------------------x

The hall was filled unto the brink with vassals big and small from all across Wessex , some he trusted and others , well not so much . the arch bishop stood at the tail end of the hall in the backdrop a large cross and in his hands the crown which symbolized the divine power entrusted to the kings of Wessex , a symbol of a near godly status .

As he reached the feet of the cross he knelt as the arch bishop spoke

Arch Bishop : "please repeat after me my king , In the name of the Holy Trinity, I promise three things to the Christian people who are subject to me: first, that God's church and all Christian people in my dominions preserve true peace; the second is that I forbid robbery and all unrighteous things to all orders; the third, that I promise and command justice and mercy in all judgements, so that the kind and merciful God because of that may grant us all his eternal mercy, who lives and reigns."

Æthelred : *does so*

Arch Bishop : "then by the power vested to me by his holiness the pope , on this day in the year of our lord 880 i pronounce you king of all Wessex"

Ignorant to the current crowning however one of Argeus' fellow assassins that had set up shop within the Wessex had left a report about the crowning for Argeus within his nearest dead drop which he would be checking once he finished up with his current situation.

Arvid simply scowled at the woman, taking his water skin and turning his back to her she. This one was going to be a real pest. He could just feel it. Hopefully though, she'd be worth the trouble somehow. (Sorry about the tiny post. Super busy)

The old man was back, at least he got out safely, Briana looked up at him as he crouched next to her, "they did this?" She croaked, a pained look crossed her face as she followed him away from the scene while the Viking had his back turned to them. Briana glanced over her shoulder as they moved, "we need to get word to the king..." she finally broke the silence, a gasp escaping her lips as she watched the last of her house collapse, a strange sense of freedom filling her being.

@SleepyBuddha @John Raptorfist

Argeus nodded as he limped away from the scene, " Before we set out for the capital I need to see about getting another cane. I don't think I can limp all the way to the capital." He said with a laugh as the two of them left the town as quickly as his 'limp' would let him. He needed to check his dead drop and resupply.

Turning back to the woman, Arvid soon that she now had a companion. The old man that the party had seen dozing in the now ruined home just minutes ago. "Well..." He grunted, eyeing the ancient man. "Do you speak our tounge?" He asked, his voice still hoarse from the smoke. Arvid sighed as he drummed his fingers along the head of his axe. This raid wasn't going well at all.

@Sharkiee @SleepyBuddha

Argeus seemed very scared when Arvid spoke to him and very clumsily said that he did speak their tongue though seemingly not very well. Argeus was visibly scared and stared at Arvid. These Vikings were massive when compared to himself and others on Ireland. Arvid seems to be much more experienced than the two he managed to kill before so he wanted to be very careful with this man.

@John Raptorfist @Sharkiee @Ruckingdom293 @Leusis @The Elusive Shadow

Briana blinked, staring at Arvid as he spoke words she didn't understand, she frowned thinking of some way to communicate with him, her only option would be trying to speaking in English and not Gaelic. She cleared her throat, she was not well practiced in English, but she thought it was worth a go. "Sir..." she spoke sheepishly, keeping an eye on the man as she assessed the situation, the fact he was idly playing with his axe made her uncomfortable. "Please.. uhh.." she clicked her fingers as she thought of the words, "no harm?" She finished tilting her head to the side, a smile playing at her lips, proud of how well she had done.

@John Raptorfist @SleepyBuddha

Arvid raised a brow as the red-haired woman spoke. It wasn't in the strange tounge that he had heard her speak earlier, but one he had knowledge on, limited though it was. "N-not...if you don't...uhhh..." He took his hand away from his axe and and pointed his middle finger and pointer finger downwards, moving them in such a way that I'd seem like they were walking. "Run." Arvid finally said, the word popping into his mind. That was before the old man spoke, though. Grinning, he dragged the man closer by his cloak. "Good. I'll need you."

@Sharkiee @SleepyBuddha

Argeus grunted and fell over as he was pulled closer by Arvid. As his leg wouldn't support his weight without some support Argeus struggled for a moment before he managed to get up, " I'll do as you say I promise." He then turned to Briana, "Go he won't attack you. Go to the capital and tell the king." Argeus said suddenly speaking fluently in Gaelic.

@Sharkie @John Raptorfist

Briana stared at the old man with wide eyes, blinking back to the Viking, she was confused what she should do. She shifted on the spot, holding tightly onto her little box, she couldn't travel the whole way to the capital by herself, she had never been there. She turned her attention to Arvid again, "what am I?" She managed, the size of him still making her terrified of defying the man.

@John Raptorfist @SleepyBuddha

Dropping the old man, who was babbling in some strange tounge, Arvid gazed upon the woman. She was clutching that damn box again. "What are you?" He let out a puff of air as he spoke. By all the gods, why couldn't this woman just stay quiet. "I do not know." Arvid stretched his arms as he spoke. "But for now, you are mine."

@Sharkiee

Briana frowned, that answered her question enough, she was a slave now. She shook her head, "I am not.." she spoke firmly. She sat on the ground facing away from him. "Old man tell him I belong to no man" she ordered from her spot as she stared down at her hand, her fingers playing idly with the gold wedding band she once wore.

@SleepyBuddha @John Raptorfist

Argeus gave Briana a concerned look like he didn't think that was the action to take but reluctantly he looked to Avrid and said, " She wants me to tell you that she belongs to no man." That was the sentence he was trying to spit out but it took him a moment to find the right words to convey the message.

@John Raptorfist @Sharkiee @The Elusive Shadow

(Maybe the newly crowned king could investigate the attacks?)

Arvid simply broke out into hysterical laughter as the old man spoke, it even hurt from all the smoke he had inhaled. Wiping a tear from his cheek, the Viking suddenly lurched forward and kneed the man in the ribcage. "Tell her that isn't her decision. She is mine and will stay mine until I say otherwise? Okay?" He hissed, spitting at the man.
