From Rivalry to Romance

Ray woke up long after and panicked as she realized the white kid was missing. Don't tell me wolves ate him or a snake bite him or he fell in a ditch or birds pecked out his eyes or... The list went on and on. She tried to find him but failed. Huffing, she sat down to rest. Being alone was boring

Nick laughed but felt sorry for her and traveled to the area where the shaded area they slept was. He saw her sitting there, bored. "Found ya." Nick smiled and held a patch of grass, slowly dropping it.

Her heart jumped for joy as she saw the white boy but kept her pissed off face. "Wherever you been?" She asked softly but angrily

"In my new shelter!" He bragged, as he picked up another patch of grass and ripped it from the ground, slowly dropping it again as he leaned against a tilted tree.

"My name isn't BLACKIE. It's Nick." Nick rolled his eyes then answered. "I'm making it into a shelter for myself." He commented, walking toward the hill in the distance.

Ray rolled her eyes as she looks at the boy walk away. Wait. What did he say his name was again? Fredrick? Neil? Nico? Vicky? Nate? Well so much for trying to remember his name... She thought drily but it then popped in her mind. Oh so his name is Nick
Still bored, Ray decides to to a little spying. She loved to sneak on people when she was little and hardly did it anymore, afraid of the outcome but this was different. She went ninja-style on Nick and watched as he made his way to a cave

Nick continued his half a mile walk to his little shelter, and once he arrived, he look back and didn't see the woman. Good. Time for work. He smiled as he walked toward the stream, searching for clay that'd dry. Perfect, this river has like three patches of it. He smiled with dignity and started grabbed some clay, patting it down on holes in his little cave.

Ray watched fascinated. He was patching up holes in the cave with clay. Because her orphanage doesn't like dirty stuff, she was never allowed to do anything fun that's related to mud. While watching, she accidentally slipped down from the rock she was hiding behind. Closing her eyes, she waited for the hard impact of the ground to come

Nick saw her while he was near the clay, he ran up to the rocks and grabbed her, collapsing as he caught her from the fall and had the air squeeze out of him. "W-what the fuck!"

She waited for the ground to knock her out but felt something soft. Ray opened an eye to see Nick under her and both eyes widen before she jumped off him and scrambled back before reflexes kicked in. The girl was 100% touch free. You do it, you live a shorter life. But seeing as he saved her from the fall, she held out a hand to him "Just take it. Don't think I forgive you for touching me but... Thanks for saving me.." Ray says mumbling the last part that no one can actually hear

Nick coughed as she retreated off of him, the air refilling his lungs, refusing the hand. "Why would I want to take it?" He blushed a little

"Fine don't," she growled and frowns. I was just trying to be helpful but I guess the dude doesn't want be helped she thought shrugging and let here hands fall down to her side.

"I-I gotta get back to work, and it's gonna rain tonight." Nick told her and smiled, standing up and grabbing another patch of clay, continuing his work.

She frowns. Was he also scared of her? Ray thought but shook it away and picks up a handful of clay, helping Nick. It was the least she could do as a thanks for breaking the fall

The holes were successfully fixed and supported, creating a rainproof cover and a clean area. Nick smiled as he stood in front of it, "You're gonna need a shelter." He smiled, still looking at the shelter of his in glory.

"No thanks, I'll do on my own, plus this place isn't big enough for the both of us to fit in," she says stubbornly and walks away to explore the island hoping she'll find some food

There wasn't much stone in the hill, only on the deepest part and the dirt was weak enough to the part where Nick could dig at it, indenting further more and create a small room on the inside, enough to fit four people. "Perfect." Nick laughed as he laid down, closing his eyes and resting for a bit.

Ray venture further into the island and found coconut trees. Some food are better than none she thought and climbed the tree until she reached its point and slid down the bare trunks smiling at her accomplishment until it starts to rain, soaking her from head to toe

"The drizzle is hear." Nick groaned, but smiled of the fact he had a shelter, "She was a little ignorant for ignoring it." He thought but laid down, closing his eyes once again.

Ray smiled in delight. Rain. It's always gloomy and dark. Like her. She tends to stay out on rainy days crying or having fun but this day was a one to get lost in. She had went deep inside the island that finding her way back was impossible in the rain. Stupid me and my stubborn pride..

Night fell fast and Ray panicked in fear of the dark. She searched for some signs of her whereabouts and saw smoke rise and sighed in relief. Nick's fire had burnt out sending some signals to her. She hurried back with the food

After getting back, Ray placed down her things and sat next to a sleeping Nick shivering but smiling. She looks over to him peacefully sleeping and touched his soft hair with a pained smile. I envy you so much that I hate you. You've got everything I don't, a life, a family, and people who cares for you
