Kaiden Lachlan (and the Smith Clan)
WLF Member | 23 | Current location ;; Washington

Josh felt Hayden sit right up on him, his happiness evident on his face. He was thankful they'd found a way to work everything out. He felt the hand on his thigh and sighed. "I tried dear, I really did try." Josh said as he looked over at Kai. Kaiden looked at the meal placed in front of him and smiled at Soren before he blushed a little. "It was.. something. Okay, so I got separated from the patrol and I ended up stuck in a store. I was swarmed by infected, and used a Molotov, a crowbar and my guns, which of course jammed and that earned me the scratches on my arm that Jacob had to fix. But you should've seen the amount of infected that I took on, on my own." Kaiden said, as he took a bite of the food. Yeah. On your own.. with a scar. A scar that you can't seem to get out of your mind. Good job Kai. Good job. Without him you would've been dead. Kaiden shook that out of his head for the moment as he looked at Hayden for his reaction.

Hayden was far more interested in listening to Kai than he was eating his food. That could come after. Or they could take it with them when they retired into their rooms that night. It would be fine. He listened. And he listened. And he really listened. He smiled. “Separated.” Soren looked at only his food. “And swarmed.” Only the food and not the inevitably scary that this could be. “With scratches.” Yep, probably bad for him and Josh. “Because you had guns, plural, that jammed. But at least there was a crowbar.” He was definitely about to go off on the two who let him be separated. But then something occurred to the youngest of the Smiths. “And you made a Molotov?” That was not regulation. That wasn’t something that any of the WLF used. “Who taught you to do that? Where did you even get the supplies for that?” Hayden looked at Soren and Josh. “What exactly do you boys do when I’m not around?”

Josh, much like Soren, suddenly found his meal a lot more interesting. He heard Hayden’s words and absolutely did not want to look at his love. Then Josh realized in Kaiden’s story that Hayden was right. They did not use Molotov’s so where did Kai find one. Kaiden squirmed in his seat a little. He did not like this, because he knew what the WLF used, and they did not use Molotovs. “Well. I learned it from Owen. He taught me about Molotovs and how to make them.” Kaiden explained, knowing his roommate would back him up. He had mentioned Molotovs before, so it wasn’t a far stretch. Josh looked at Hayden and shook his head. “We don’t do anything that you don’t know about. See. It was those former Fireflies teaching our boy about the stuff.” Josh replied, looking over at Soren then to Kai.

Hayden listened again, intent on learning exactly what was going on with the man he saw like the son he never got to have. Not in this world. “Owen.” That did make sense. The Fireflies came in with a whole different mindset than anyone else. It was not that he disliked them. In fact, he very much liked the majority of them. He liked their fire and their will. But he was often alarmed by their actions. He reached across the table and took one of Kaiden’s hands. “I am so proud of you, Kai. And also worried. But I am every time and if you go out there. Just be careful.” He looked at Josh with narrowed eyes. “We will discuss this later.” and to Soren. “And you too. I would like to know how you let him get separated from you long enough for him to have to do so much to survive.” His attention diverted back to Kai. “So. Anything else exciting happen today?” He finally started eating his meal.

Kaiden looked at Hayden, his brown eyes watching and waiting to see what the man who’d basically become like his father would say. He felt the man take one of his hands and Kai smiled. He nodded as he listened and felt a small swell of pride inside. “Of course I’ll be careful dad. I learned from the best.” He said, looking first at Hayden then between Josh and Soren. He’d been patrolling with them as soon as he turned sixteen and they allowed him out. Josh ducked his head down but met Hayden’s eye. “Yes my love.” He said quietly. Kai looked at Hayden and shrugged. “Owen and I were talking about going somewhere tomorrow since we don’t have patrols. And before you say anything, we aren’t going anywhere near Scar territory.” Kaiden said as he took some more bites of his food.

Thankfully, Hayden did not dislike Owen. He felt that Owen was a bit impulsive and frequently found himself in dangerous situations, but he was a good guy overall. Hayden liked the conversations they had with him sometimes. He had good ideals. “Okay,” he responded as he ate his food thoughtfully. “As long as you’re careful. Don’t do anything too stupid. And I’ll want to hear about your adventures.” Kaiden was an adult. He could do what he wanted, but that didn’t mean that Hayden couldn’t worry. He would worry for the rest of time, probably. That was what happened when he became a dad. It really was the best thing to have happened to him, and it didn’t happen over night. It just happened so organically. Soren finished his meal and patted Kai. “I’m going to go grab Jacob’s dinner and bring it to him.” He nudged his favorite nephew’s shoulder. “Don’t get caught doing anything stupid.” He chuckled as he stood. “Josh. Bright and early tomorrow?”

Kai finished his meal quickly, he’d always been a fast eater. His mom used to scold him because he’d get sick from eating so fast. “Me? Do anything stupid? I would never.” Kai said, as he fought the smile off his face. “Of course, I’ll tell you all about them.” Yeah.. except he won’t mention that they were going to go to the aquarium. That was also really close to Scar territory. Kai looked at Soren and chuckled. “Of course not.” Kai said with a grin as Josh nodded. “See you tomorrow morning.” Josh told him as he ate his own meal.

Soren squeezed Josh’s shoulder and disappeared back to the meal line to grab his husband’s dinner. Hayden leaned against Josh as just something that he did and also a reminder that he may be a bit miffed that Kaiden was in a dangerous situation, but he still loved his husband. Soren was smart to run now. That meant the conversation would just be the two of them and then with Soren later. Running to Jacob would not save him completely. As he finished his food, he turned his attention back to Kaiden. “Right, because you’ve never done anything stupid before in your whole life. At least not when I was around. Oh!” He pulled his books closer to him. “Two of the guns were jammed right? I can go up to the armory and have everyone do a thorough check. You aren’t the only one who’s been having that problem. How was yours, honey?” Chemistry and biology meant that Hayden could at least feel more useful than he did with FEDRA.

Kai blushed red and looked at his empty tray. He was definitely one to get into trouble and do stupid stuff. He used to play pranks all the time on Hayden and Jacob. He was a pain as a kid and although he’d wisened up as an adult, still did stupid stuff. “Nope I’ve never done anything stupid in my entire life. And you should know, you’ve known me pretty much my whole life.” Kai said with a small grin on his face. Josh rolled his eyes as he listened to Kai, knowing the man and narrowed his eyes before he shook his head. He felt Hayden leaning against him and chuckled. “Alright, let’s let our kid go hang out with his friend. I’m sure he’d rather do that than hang out with us old folks.” Josh said with a chuckle as Kai smiled, standing up and walking around the table. He hugged Josh first with a smile and then hugged Hayden. “I love you guys.” He said with a big smile.

Hayden twisted around for a better hug, wrapping his arms as tightly as he could manage. “I love you so much, Kaiden. You make me proud every day.” He planted a kiss to Kai’s temple before letting him go. “Okay, I won’t keep you here any longer. Go do whatever it is that you young people do.” He turned to Josh. “I don’t even remember what we did at your age. That was literally several eras ago.” He rested his head on Josh’s shoulder. “Mm, on second thought, I think I would like to go back to our room instead. Maybe I’ll do the weapons check tomorrow when you and Soren are gone.” He waved at Kai with a large smile.

Ezekiel walked through the village as quickly as he could, which was admittedly still very quick. His agility and stamina were admirable as he strived for, and he prided himself on being able to travel so quickly and efficiently. If would have been easier with his team, but this was better than not returning at all. He whistled as he moved closer to inform them of his return. Several others greeted him. He delivered to solemn news of his group’s passing. As he spoke, one noticed the streamed of dried blood that fell from his forearm. He was not sure when he was hit. So he traveled to the healers to make sure that he was okay. It felt fine, but he had been injured far worse with little feeling before.

Sixteen year old Alexander
Kai smiled at the kiss to his temple and the hug. He loved his family, a lot. And he didn’t ever want to lose them. Kaiden looked at the two of them, smiled and waved before he was off. He walked through the halls as he headed for his and Owen’s room. Once he got there, he walked in to find Owen gone and he rolled his eyes. Probably out with Abby. He lounged on his bed and his mind wandered back to the Scar from earlier. Josh watched Kai head out and looked at Hayden. “It was not that long ago.. but I agree. Let’s go to our room.” Josh said, grabbing the trays and stood up. He held out a hand to help Hayden up.

Alexander was just finishing up his training for the day, it was his last session before he had his own group. The elders were going to assign him to one tomorrow morning. He was excited to be able to patrol and recon off the island. He was currently sitting in the healers tent as Juliet cleaned up one of his cuts from the training. She was in training to be a healer and had been tasked with the simple cuts and scrapes. Anything else and she had to have her mentor help her. He looked up when an older warrior, Ezekiel, came in. He had always thought highly of the warrior, and a smile crossed his face. “How was your reconnaissance?” He asked, knowing what the older Seraphite had been doing with his own group.

It was moments like this, when their family was so beautiful and nice, that Hayden questioned his memory of a time past. How could he ever have questioned his husband? He gripped Josh tight and hefted himself up and over the bench Moving was difficult. At the end of the day, it was harder. Even if he wanted to do more, now was probably not the time. He sighed as he gathered all of his books in his arms and waved Josh away. “You go return those trays, and I’ll start making it to the room. Don’t worry, I am sure you will catch up. Today is going to be a slow day. And no, I refuse to be held back by a wheelchair. And yes, I did use the cane today. Mostly. But I was moving so nicely that I forgot to bring it with me.” He waved Josh away again and started hobbling his way out of the cafeteria. He thought about Kai and how grown up he was. Hayden felt like Kai was missing something though. He didn’t know what it was, but he knew that Kai would never be able to settle until he found it.

Ezekiel smiled and nodded to each of the people that he passed. It was important to be kind and respectful to those who deserved it, and anyone who healed others was certainly one in that category. He stopped by the young Alexander. Trouble, yes, but he had great potential. He frowned at the question. “It went rather less well than I had hoped,” he answered as he sat down. He turned to Juliet. “Good evening, Juliet. I believe you can help me with this.” He pushed away the sleeves of his robe to reveal the cut. He still did not know the source. He looked back at his young companion. “We lost everyone in my group today. We were not expecting such a large number of demons in a building we have traveled through many times.” He sighed. “I fear that they are growing larger the more the wolves stay in control. They are not taking care of their land.” He closed his eyes, breathed, and thanked Her for his survival. “It seems that I will likely be joining you tomorrow in your assignment ceremony.” He smiled. “Please tell me that your day went better than mine?”

Kai was deep in thought at the moment. His eyes staring at the ceiling of his room when he heard a knock on the door. Hm. With a groan he swung his legs off the bed and walked over to the door. Kai pulled it open and smiled at the person on the other side. “Hey man.” He said, letting the other in. Josh knew that moving was hard for Hayden, although he sighed. He wished Hayden would use the wheelchair on bad days, but it was hard enough trying to get him to use the cane, clearly. “Alright love, just take it easy.” He said, watching Hayden hobble out before he shook his head, dropped the trays were they go and headed after him. He caught up pretty quickly and grinned, he was still in pretty good shape for forty six years old. Keeping in shape to patrol was important. And with a grin, he carefully scooped Hayden in his arms. “I’ll be your cane tonight love.” Josh said with a chuckle. He was always careful with his husband, especially now and he headed towards their room.

Alex tilted his head as he listened, eyes widening at the revelation. Juliet turned to Ezekiel and nodded. “Of course.” She said with a smile. She started cleaning the cut, revealing a scratch mark just under his robes near his shoulder. “I’m sorry to hear that. They were all wonderful warriors and they rest with Her now.” Alex replied, saddened to hear of his groups fate. “I wish we could take back some of the territory from them, they do not deserve it if they cannot care for it.” Alex added as he looked at the older warrior. “It appears so and my day? Well. I finished my final training session, and I got high marks on my archery though my hand to hand is still a little low.” He said, pointing to the cut on his arm from the session. “Although Grant is very pleased over all and approved me for off island patrols.” Alex said with a proud smile.

Bouncing on the other side of the door was the bored and eager Theophilus Sharpe. He shifted from one foot to the next until the door finally opened. He leaned on the doorframe like he was cool and not at all like he was as bouncy as ever. Theo, which was what he went by the most, or T to those who decided that even the shortened name was too much, was one of the kids who was raised in a growing FEDRA regime. He was slightly younger than Kai, but age stopped mattering as much in those little apartment rooms. He spent a lot of time with Kai and the rest of the families of the soldiers. Kai was always his favorite and was probably his best friend. “Hey.” He moved into the room and plopped down on one of the chairs. “Ugh, bro I have been waiting to talk to you all day. They had me on this nonsense patrol out in the middle of nowhere. It was the most boring day ever. Were you at least less bored?”

“I can walk myself,” Hayden insisted, though he spoke with a light tone and a smile that graced his lips as he touched Josh’s face with a gentle hand. “It’s not as bad as it looks. I just.. pushed a little harder today than I probably should have. There’s been a lot going on, and I… needed something to distract myself.” He frowned. “It’s been a long time since I saw…” He sucked in a deep breath. “I’m okay, I promise. Don’t worry.” Like you always do and always have.

Ezekiel did not mean to laugh, but he did. As he looked at Alex’s arm, it was not because of the injury but because of how the two of them were so similar in such strange ways. “I was reaffirmed today that I am very bad with the bow. After all this time, you would think I would be better at it.” He relived the moments again with his faulty aim and the wolf who had to save him. The wolf he saved. “But I am very good at hand to hand.” He patted his arm. “Maybe I can teach you hand to hand, and you can teach me archery. Apparently, my own teacher gave up on me. Though I am glad that you have Grant. He was an excellent mentor. If only I could have had him. At least I get him as a dear friend.”

Kai stepped back into the room as he watched Theo lean on the doorframe and saw him walk in the room and plop down on one of the chairs. “That sounds awful. I can’t believe you got stuck on that.” Kai replied as he sat on his bed. He crossed his arms as he pushed back and leaned against the wall. “I had a very exciting day. I got separated from my patrol, swarmed by infected, and one managed to scratch me pretty good. Oh! And my guns jammed. Both of them!” Kai said, sighing roughly as he pushed his head against the wall.

Josh felt the hand on his face and smiled. Then a frown crossed his face. “Baby. What have I told you? You can always talk to me. I know I messed up early on in our marriage and stuff but you can talk to me. What’s going on in that head of yours? As for not worrying, you know I will always worry.” Josh replied kissing the top of his head as he made it to their room and opened the door. He kicked it shut behind them and set Hayden down on the bed, before sitting beside him arm around his shoulders.

Alex heard the laugh and smiled himself. “You know it took me almost a year of back to back sessions to get even remotely good at the bow so don’t feel bad.” Alex commented as he stood, pulling his robe on. He’d taken it off when he’d gone in. “That would be great, I’d be more than happy to teach you archery in exchange for hand to hand.” Alex said, nodding with a smile. “I have to agree, I’m glad I have him, though it’s sad to hear your teacher gave up on you.” Alex said walking over to Ezekiel and patting his shoulder on the non-injured arm. “I’ll see you later?”

“Wait, what? No way. No way! Both of them jammed? After all the rest? That’s crazy!” If Theo thought he was going to have a normal conversation before, he was certainly wrong. “How many is swarmed and how did you survive?” He was up and running to his friend’s side almost as soon as the man was done talking. He took Kai’s arm and inspected it. “And you did die or get bitten or anything? You’re like a superhero. Wait, your dad and your uncle are on your patrol? How did your own family lose you? That’s messed up, man.” He was absolutely astounded.

Hayden stared at his hands as Josh sat down on the bed. What was he supposed to say? “It’s not your fault my love. You weren’t here, so I couldn’t tell you. I told Jacob though. He’s so good with me when I get like that.. you know.” He sighed and looked up at Josh, trying to smile and pretend like everything was as okay as he wanted it to be. “I think it’s worry. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s all three of you being out there. It feels like there are more scars out there than ever, and they are so aggressive. Did you see what they did to Damien?” He closed his eyes and breathed. “My things.. my..trauma will pass. And then I will go back to moving normally and not needing to be carried everywhere.” He smiled and kissed Josh’s cheek. “Though I don’t hate it.”

“You did not know me when I was your age,” Ezekiel countered. “You too would give up on me.” He placed a hand on Alex’s and smiled. “I’ll see you tomorrow morning. Until then, wish me luck talking to the elders about out unfortunate events that also comes with an unfortunate lack of information about our enemies.” He turned to Juliet. “Will I survive?” he asked with a joking smile.

Kai could only nod his head as he chuckled and shrugged. “Yeah. I told dad though I think papa is in trouble with him since he did lose me.” Kai said, as he saw Theo come over at a run looking at his arm. “Well. There was at least fifteen runners and clickers total. And I almost didn’t survive.” Kai admitted, knowing he could trust Theo with anything. “As for my family losing me? I may have heard something and wandered from the patrol to check it out. So it wasn’t exactly completely their fault.” Kai admitted as he ducked his head down.

Josh sighed but he smiled. He had to thank his brother for being there for Hayden. Not only now but ever since the world went downhill. “I’m glad Jacob was here for you when I couldn’t be love.” He said, squeezing his shoulder gently. “Baby, I understand it’s just as scary out there with the scars. But we trained Kai, he’s a very capable young man. Though he is similar to you as well, a sweetheart inside. I saw what they did to Damien, I was on that patrol remember? And even when you get over it, I’ll still carry you. Forever and always remember love?” Josh said with a smile, kissing the top of his head.

Alex chuckled, hearing Ezekiel. “It takes a lot for me to give up on someone.” He said, smiling at the hand on his. “Good luck. May She guide you and they are understanding.” Alex added as he bid them both farewell. He headed to his family’s cabin and laid down for the night. Excited to get his group and go on patrol tomorrow.

Theo caught a laugh in his throat, and when that wasn’t good enough, he shoved a hand over his mouth and hoped that was enough to not laugh at that. It wasn’t. He laughed anyway. “Oh man, fifteen? How did you survive that when two guns jammed? How are you not dead?” He grabbed Kai’s hand and pulled him to the sitting area. “You have to tell me everything, and then I’m going to pretend that I was there with you since my patrol was like wandering a desert and getting literally nowhere real slow like.”

“I know there isn’t any reason to worry about any of you. He’s amazingly talented as he’s always been. And you-“ Hayden planned on complimenting him, but instead, he saw Josh’s scar. He reached up and ran a hand across the entire thing. This was why he worried. “What if worse happens to you? What if those people get you and they-“ his voice faltered as he saw the image of Damien strung up, a deep cut in his stomach. He closed his eyes again and breathed. Breathed and spun the ring like he had for years and years. He laid his head on Josh’s chest. “Forever and always.”

Ezekiel dipped his head down low as Alex left and returned his attention to Juliet as she finished. “I thank you, gentle one. May She guide you in your healing. You are progressing remarkably well.” He bowed his head to her as well as he exited the tent and walked through the village. His mind wandered back to the events of the day. The look on that man’s face. Wolf. That wolf’s face. How he was not afraid of him. How he worked with him. He trusted him with the crowbar instead of trying to use it himself. This was not how he thought wolves were meant to act. In his thoughts, he found himself walking the roads instead of going to rest.

Kaiden shook his head and sighed as he heard Theo laugh. Then he felt him pull him to the sitting area. “So.. I was trapped in a store, and I tried to run from them but I tripped. Then the store erupted in fire. Someone had thrown a Molotov. At first I thought I was saved by like Owen or Manny. The guys who know and use Molotovs but it wasn’t. I didn’t see who saved me but they got rid of a lot of the infected. I used my shotgun to get the last few then a crowbar. The man disappeared when papa and the rest showed up. Then they took me to my uncle and he patched me up.”

Josh heard Hayden, felt the hand trace his scar. “I cannot take away that worry, but I can promise I will come home every night to you.” He said, seeing him spin his ring like he’d done for years. “Those scars won’t get me because I’m not done loving you.” He added, kissing Hayden gently. He wrapped his arms around his husband and laid down on the bed with him. “Let’s get some sleep yeah?” Josh said smiling softly.

Theo was enraptured by the tale. He was entirely engrossed like he was reading a book or something. “Wow. Someone threw a Molotov? For sure would have to be one of the Firefly guys, right? Because… wow. But why would they run off like that? Wait, nah, wouldn’t be one of them if they ran from your patrol.” He narrowed his eyes and shook his head. “Are there other groups of people out there that aren’t us? I mean.. because it wouldn’t be a scar right? They don’t… like help people?” He shook his head and threw up his hands. “That’s still crazy. Here I was just hoping you had some action. Turns out you’re the action hero. That’s awesome man.”

Hayden laid beside him, yawning like he’d had a long day. He had a really long day. He pressed his forehead against Josh’s and curled against him. “Just because I love you,” he began in a sleepy whisper, “does not mean you’re off the hook for losing our child out there no matter how capable he is.” His lips curled into a grin. “We will be discussing this early in the morning before you have to leave.” He touched Josh’s lips with his finger. “So let that soak in tonight.” He pushed himself against Josh and pulled the blanket over them before drifting off to sleep.

Kai shrugged as he sat there. “I don’t know. What.. what if it was a scar? It was so weird. Just threw the Molotov and took off. Man.. it was just a crazy day. And I’m no hero. Hey. Do you have patrol tomorrow?” Kai asked, as he changed the conversation. “Because Owen and I are going to the aquarium and you can join us if you want.” He added as he looked out at the darkened sky.

Josh heard Hayden yawn and felt the forehead against his. He wrapped his arms around Hayden and pulled him tight as he felt him curl against him. He heard the sleepy whisper and hummed softly. Josh saw Hayden’s lips curl into a grin as he averted his gaze and felt the finger on his lips. “Yes dear.” He said softly as he felt the blanket over him as he too fell fast asleep.

What if it was a scar? That would be weird. But interesting. Scars were weird people. But the subject was changed and he moved on. Mostly. “Uh, no. I’m free as a kite. Which by the way what does that even mean? That’s beside the point. Cool, I’ve never been to the aquarium before. Owen talks about it like it’s the coolest thing in the world, but I’ve never seen it.” Theo’s gaze followed Kai’s. “Oh shoot, it’s late. Brian is going to be so cranky if I go in after he’s been trying to sleep. Okay, I should go.” He popped up and ran to the door. He opened the door, stepped out then paused. He turned around and looked at his friend. “Bro, what if it was a scar?” He let that sit there a moment. “What if a scar did save you?” He stood there another moment and then disappeared into the hall.

Kaiden looked over at Theo and smiled. “It’s a great place. I’ve heard dad talking about it. Papa asked him to marry him at the top of the Ferris wheel from the story they told me.” Kai said before he nodded. “I can’t wait to see it. Oh yeah. It is isn’t it. Good night.” Kai said as he watched him pop up and run to the door. He tilted his head as he heard him. It was the same thought he’d had earlier. Because a scar did save him. He just had no idea why. Kaiden watched his friend and brother go before he laid on his bed. He pulled the blanket over himself and fell asleep thinking of the events and just why a scar saved him, after aiming his bow at his face and everything.

At approximately 6 in the morning, Theo was knocking on the door again. It was early, yeah, but he needed somewhere else to be. “Kai? Kai let me in. Owen. Someone please? I can’t be in my room right now. Brian is doing that thing where literally everything is an attack and he doesn’t leave for his patrol for hours.” He groaned. “I know I just woke you up probably but I’ll let you sleep and everything. Please please pleeeassee.”

Ezekiel wandered the ground for a long time as he thought before finally moving back to his family’s cabin. There, his parents, himself, and three of his younger siblings lived. He chose to stay in the cramped living space to allow others a space who could not do as he did. He slept in the highest loft with very little space. It was not meant for sleeping. He converted it as soon as it seemed that his parents would be continuing to procreate as the Elders wished. When he awoke, it was early as always. He slept little as he spent much time thinking. No. Replaying. He watched the whole encounter again and again like it would give him more information. Alas, it did not. Eventually, he changed and moved out into the waking world once more. Perhaps what he needed was a distraction. He found the Elders early. They would hopefully shed light on his inner predicament. Well, what little he felt he could actually tell them.

Kai groaned low as he heard the knocking on the door. His brain was half awake still because he’d only managed to fall asleep maybe two hours ago. He’d been replaying and thinking about yesterday. Why. Why. Why did he save me.. kept running through his mind. It gave him a headache. Kai blinked his eyes open as he lifted his head off the pillow, Owen hadn’t come back last night. Yeah. He must’ve been with Abby. “Fine.” Kai grumbled as he got off the bed and opened the door. “Crash on Owen’s bed, and lock the door behind you.” Kaiden said, voice thick with sleep and irritation. He went back to his bed, laying down on it and pulling the blanket over himself. Unfortunately, he doubted he’d be able to fall asleep again.

Josh was up at 6 as well. He had about an hour before he had to go see Soren. Part of him was considering sneaking out before Hayden woke up. He wasn’t looking forward to this morning’s conversation. He shifted in bed and went to move off it hoping to sneak off.

Alex woke up early that morning, buzzing with excitement. Derek and Juliet were still sleeping along with their parents. He couldn’t stay asleep anymore so he slipped off the top bed and put on the robes and tunic that he would wear on patrols. He grabbed his bow and strapped it on his back. Alex headed out of the cabin and made his way to his favorite tree. He climbed it to the top and watched the sun rise, eager to meet his new group this morning.
