If you would like to give your dragon slayer's dragon the same name as the canon dragon of that element, that is fine by me.
Follow up, I noticed your character is a third-generation dragon slayer. Can there be first and second-generation slayers too?
Also sorry if you've explained this before in the interest check, my memory is garbage this late

I’m just tagging everyone who has expressed interest so far so that everyone is able to locate the OOC. Also, for everyone, character creation is open. I”m hoping to have the actual roleplay started in about two weeks (I know, I know, waiting sucks). I still have a lot of planning to do. The general plot exists but I need to make NPCs and the like and it will take time for me to give them enough detail that they are easy for you guys to all engage with. Additionally, just as a warning, I also have a lot of characters I’m posting of my own as player characters. That’s because with my GM style, I use my personal characters to help guide plot and stuff. It gives me a variety of things to work with and it means I have enough characters so that everyone can be tied into what I’ve got going on in my fun world of mischief.

Boop. Not sure what exactly I'm going to do yet for a character/magic. I suppose I got a decent amount of time too so its no rush.

If you can come up with a very good reason as to how your character came to learn a magic that is lost.
Alright. The general idea is that my character was raised by the descendens of a sect (which been driven out of Mildian a couple centuries prior for practicing heresy) dedicated to Chronos, the god of time. So her knowledge of Arc of time comes from the knowledge passed down through her ancestors.

That's the gist of it anyway, would that work or is it back to the drawing board for me?

Lost magics are lost. There exists no one to pass down knowledge of them and if there was, then they wouldn't be lost magics. Arc of Time is a lost magic. No one exists to teach it.

Acceptable ways to learn something like this would be more along the lines of having been frozen in a block of ice for thousands of years or something similar because that would mean your character is from a time where there was someone alive to teach it.

Does that make sense?

I'm trying to help because I don't want to completely ban lost magics - some of them are pretty awesome - but they need to be handled delicately.

Just a quick counterpoint, just because a magic is classified as lost doesn't mean that the knowledge of them are completely eradicated. Sherria, for example, learned her lost magic from a book. Ultear was taught by Hades, to use an other example. Heck, Dragon Slayer magic is considered a lost form of magic yet it's understood to the degree that people can make artificial versions of it by using a lacrima.

With all that considered, is it that unreasonable to assume that a small group of people would retain the knowledge of, say, Arc of time?

After conducting some research, I've realized that my understanding of lost magic was incorrect.

However, I have discovered a new problem that I need to figure out before I can fully say yes to your request to use the Arc of Time magic. Lost magic is supposed to be extremely rare and in an rp like this, I need to figure out how to maintain that rareness since creating a character with knowledge of lost magic really isn't going to be as difficult as I thought it would be.

On this point, I am open to feedback and suggestions, but also need time to consider and discuss with the people who are sorta helping me run things.

Why make it difficult, just have it work the same as the other limited positions.

I'm going to start working on Skylar's sheet tomorrow. Should have it done over the weekend at the latest.

(If you're reading this first, Skylar is a character mentioned in Gurren's character sheet, but I'm going to expand more on their connection in her backstory write up.)
