Fate/Crossed Souls

1. He seems to be enjoying himself and I want to see what he does. Also, I don't understand the situation so getting myself involved would be a risk especially since I am not up to full power. Plus the Berserker might not like me to interrupt him and it may cause him to lose focus.

Never treat Berserker like they're intelligent enough to know what they're doing. That's mistake # 1

It’s a rather suspect situation that your Servant seems to have gotten himself entangled in. Initially, you believe that hanging back and observing the situation is the best way to handle it. Though, as the shadowy specters approach the bloodstained knight, you bite your lip and decide to intervene. It definitely isn't your style, but the possibility of that Servant getting himself blindsided or betraying you is enough to get you to act on the spot.

“Berserker!”

“Ol-”

You advance forward, just enough for your voice to reach him. You catch the faintest hint of what he was about to say before the Heroic Spirit’s eyes narrow and the cloaked figure takes a step back. Your eyes can barely follow the swift movements of your Servant as he draws his blade and swings at the figure.

The sound of cloth tearing resounds as the man leaps back. The apparitions that were closing in on Berserker have vanished. He flashes his bare fangs as he assumes a formal fighting stance with that unmatched blade. Still, your gaze moves over to the uncloaked man.

He’s dressed in a mix of leather and armor. Straps hang off the bottom and a white cloth is wrapped around his outfit. . He bears a look of annoyance and a slight grimace on his face. Short, wavy brown hair frames his face. In one raised hand is a dagger with a thick blade… and his other hand hidden under his back moves swiftly. The enemy tosses something at Berserker.

Hidden Blade

And as you expect, the glinting metal of Berserker’s blade slices through a smoke grenade. You rush to the side as Berserker is engulfed in a plume of smoke. As your Servant coughs and swings his sword wildly in front of him, you attempt to make out any sort of signs of the man’s movements. There’s a brief hint of a silhouette moving through the smoke, but it soon disappears. As the smoke is blown away, you take a brief survey of the area before carefully approaching your Servant.

“Tch! I can’t believe I almost fell for that bastard’s trick. I knew it was too good to be true... “

Berserker seems to be taking this whole thing rather hard. Though, you feel like it wouldn’t be a good idea to press him about what happened. Especially after pissing him off earlier. He sheathes his sword and glares at you.

“...And what do you want? Do you think I’m going to thank you for anything you cold-hearted bitch?”

“...A tool is useless if it’s broken. That being said though, I… apologize for earlier at the hotel. You’re not just some conjured familiar. Co-operation is necessary for victory in this war and I suppose that you should be treated with more respect as befitting your legend. Whatever that is.”

It takes every ounce of self-control you have to say all of that. As cold and indifferent as you can be at times, you’ve come to realize that Berserker is your lifeline in the Fourth Holy Grail War. If he hates you, the only thing keeping him from lopping off your head are those marks on your hand. And even then, a Berserker is still liable to kill you as several stories have attested to. You can’t help but feel your face heat up - you’ve never had to try and connect with someone after your father’s demise. That sort of thing was a luxury that the AverageWeak had. That momentary blush fades as you narrow your eyes and gaze at your Servant, quickly regaining your usual stoic expression.

“T-That’s… fine. In life, I served as a king’s favored blade. He wasn’t stupid enough to call me a tool to my face though.  But, as long as you get it through your thick skull that I’m still a person, I-I guess I’m fine with you as a M-Master.”

His cheeks are a deep red, and you restrain yourself from asking him to say that last part once more. Admittedly, when he isn’t talking, he’s rather cu-. No, that’s the least of your concerns right now. Winning that wish is the goal. At the very least, you’ve gained some intel and learned just a bit more about your Servant’s past with this brief detour. You lead Berserker back to your ride and he scratches his head.

“Nice rid, though you do know I’m a Berserker right? No Riding skill in this class.”

“You thought you were going to drive?”

It’s getting late and you’ve decided that returning to the hotel for some rest is the best course of action. For now, you’ve managed to last another day in the Fourth Holy Grail War. Berserker has materialized his helmet and holds onto your sides with a tight grip. You can’t help but feel slightly amused by this strange dynamic, especially as Berserker yelps as you zip around a corner.

Side: Church

The golden-haired man observes the conflict from a safe distance. He’s a young man in his 20s and his black robes are traced with silver. He grips onto a silver cross tightly as two summoned spirits face each other in deadly combat.

A red-haired man presses his assault against the aged spear wielder. A shame, he was rooting for Lancer. Though, given his position as the overseer for this ‘magi war’, he remained silent as sparks flew about. The red-haired man seemed to be a powerhouse, overwhelming his foe without even drawing out his Noble Phantasm. The overseer’s usually closed eyes open slightly as raw energy begins to gather in his hands.

Glowing lines trace a shape and the energy begins to fill that outline like molten metal being poured into a mold. He’s drawn out a Noble Phantasm - but it’s clear that it isn’t his. After all, that Servant wasn't a king.

Sword in the Stone

Episode 1 - END

Right, as @The One Eyed Bandit suspected in OOC, option 1 actually would have led to the Quest’s second Bad End. There were forty Bad Ends in F/SN, and quite a few in Extra and CCC if I recall correctly. Inactivity here would have led to Berserker’s enemy killing both her and her Servant in quick succession.

As for previous choices, meeting up with the Overseer earlier would have allowed you and Berserker to meet up with him at night to watch the fight between the red-haired man and Lancer. Provided that you didn’t piss off Berserker. That was unplanned, but an interesting development either way that allowed me to introduce another adversary early. Anyways, look forward to getting acquainted with a new Master or two and facing down an (un)familiar foe.

Fate/Crossed Souls

Episode 2 - START

You are Sheila Twain, and right now you’re struggling to get up and out of bed this morning. Following the events of the previous night, you managed to save your Servant from possible death at the hands of a possible enemy Servant. As beams of sunlight shine through the white drapes of your hotel Room you run a hand through your golden hair and gaze over at the sleeping form of Berserker.

He’s rather lazily lain out on table converted into a bed with the room’s spare cloths. Honestly, had you known about the circumstances of his summoning you probably would have asked for another room. Regardless, you begin your morning rituals - a nice warm shower, toothbrushing, and draining some electricity from a 12 pack of AA batteries. It’s a start at least, though you note that you may have to drain some power from a larger source later. Right now, you're still only able to tap into a small portion of the Thunderbird's power. With meditation however, you believe you can regain another one of your abilities later in the day.

As you zip up your Mystic Code, Berserker rouses from his slumber - just enough to mumble out something about his cousin being too cute or some other nonsense. Brushing that aside, you move to shock him awake - honestly, he just looks far too peaceful and cu-

There’s a knock at the door. Which is doubly odd as your bounded fields should have completely concealed this room. You’re hesitant and slowly you begin to concentrate energy in a clenched fist as you peek through the peephole.

And it’s no one you recall. The apparent visitor this morning is a short girl with light brown hair done up in twintails. She’s flat-chested (granting you a little more confidence in your own lacking assets) and dressed in a qipao with a golden dragon emblazoned down its length. You nearly jolt back when she brings her gaze up towards you and gives off a million-volt smile with a sharp fang.

“You’re Miss Twain right? I’m Xiahou Kun, the erm… former Master of Lancer. I swear I’m not here for a fight, I’ve already lost my Command Seals. But erm, there’s something I need to talk to you about.”

Another cursory glance of this Xiahou person reveals that her knuckles are caked in blood. Though, there aren’t any signs of Command Seals on the visible parts of her skin. While the better part of your instincts are telling you that letting her in is a bad idea, you can’t help but feel curious about this girl’s intentions. Besides, if she’s already lost, she could have possible intel about some of the other Masters. Berserker is right behind you, just one scream would probably be enough to wake him up.

 1. Let the girl in, though have Berserker ready to intervene as soon as you open the door.

 2. Wake Berserker and escape through the window. You’ve already prepared this as a contingency plan.
 3. [Write-In]

“Hmph.”

You creep over to your sleeping Servant. If anyone is going to answer the door (and perhaps get attacked by a Chinese magus), it should be your trusty meatshield Servant. You place a hand on his shoulder and slowly begin to shake it. He mumbles something incoherent and you almost find yourself pouting as you attempt to shake him with more force.

Nothing. You sigh softly before channeling electricity into your fingertips. Ordinarily, you wouldn’t resort to such base acts. But Berserker is fair game - and you haven’t been able to interact with another individual like this in years. The sound of crackling static briefly fills the room as your fingertip connects with his cheek.

“Gah! What the fuck?!”

His eyes snap open as the tingling sensation sends him rolling off the makeshift bed. The man with messy black hair stained with blood gazes up at you and growls - though his even messier than usual bed head prevents you from taking him seriously. It almost seems that he’s going to fly off the handle and start cursing you out, but he merely start rubbing his cheek. Still, you keep your face and lean down.

“Berserker, there’s another Master at the door. Looks like they lost their Servant and their status. Get the door for me.”

“...You woke me up for this? Ugh, fine. I guess I owe you anyways for last night. Even if you were rough…”

“Come again?”

“Your riding. It was dreadful.”

“...I wasn’t aware that you even needed mana last night. Though you were murmuring in your sleep just a while ago, perhaps it was just a dream... your mind really is as dirty as your mouth Berserker.”

“W-WHAT?! N-No! I was talking about your motorcycl- Whatever! I’m answering the door!”

The red-faced Servant materializes his sword and stomps over to the door. You prepare for the worst as the maddened warrior opens the door.

“Ah, thanks~! I know it was a big risk trusting me but you won’t regr- W-Wow.”

“Mmm? Oi, Master. You might want to come out and see this.”

Seeing as how Berserker hasn’t been punched in the face, you approach him from behind and stand on the tips of your toes to look over his shoulders. Outside the hotel room, it seems that three wolves have been messily slaughtered just outside in the hallway. By their size, you identify them as Dire wolves, an extinct animal that has become a rather common familiar for some magi in the Mage’s Association after they figured out how to magically recreate them. Xiahou Kun is staring at Berserker with a blush as red as blood splattered on the walls - though Berserker doesn’t seem to notice as he views the carnage with disbelief. You also sense that the Boundary Field has been tampered with.

“...Right then. I suppose I should mend the Boundary Field and expand its area to hide the corpses. The room is too small, so I suppose we’ll have to discuss this matter somewhere else.”

Admittedly, you really just want some food at this point, as morbid as it is after seeing dead wolves in the morning. Berserker makes his way out into the hall and Kun’s eyes follow him as you modify the damaged Boundary Field. Still, it seems you’ll have a lot on your plate today.

 1. Head to Tom’s Diner in Oldtown to grab some breakfast.
 2. Head to the Downtown WcDonald’s and grab some breakfast.

“Hmm, I suppose some fast food should be fine for now. Scouting out Downtown Mayhunt should also prove useful.”

You mutter that under your breath as you slip on your gloves. For a second, Berserker almost seems to pale as you walk out the door. Kun follows closely behind you after you lock up and head out. Though, he seems to calm down considerably when it becomes apparent that you’ll be walking.

conceptart-downtown.jpg

Industry and Domination

Downtown Mayhunt is a booming metropolis and the heart of this American city. In recent years, this area has flourished greatly thanks to the emergence of several startup companies such as Royden Robotics. Recently, the city has agreed to an experimental collaboration with the company - thus, it’s not too strange to see their machines walking around and performing simple tasks to enrich the community. At least, that’s what it says on the press release.

You and your two companions locate the upscale fast food restaurant with ease - its flagship status has granted it a rather conspicuous location in the heart of the city and a unique multi-floor set-up. You order a standard meal while Kun orders some hash browns. Berserker seems to take a while to read the menu, so the two of you find seats on the second floor. You also leave your Servant with your credit card.

“American fast food really is a wondrous thing~.”

“Indeed.”

The two of you remain rather silent as you begin to devour your brunch. Walking over to WcDonald’s has helped you work up an appetite. After Kun licks her fingers clean, she clears her throat and begins to speak.

“Erm, right. About those dead wolves. I actually came by to ask you about something earlier, but those familiars were already at your door waiting for the two of you to come out. And well… this led to that and here we are.”

“I see. And you said you were a former Master, correct?”

“Ehehe… yeah… Though, winning the Holy Grail War was never my intentions Ms. Twain. Admittedly, I do feel sorry for Lancer, but he served me well. Saber is on a whole ‘nother level.”

“Saber?”

“Yeah. This tall and striking red hair. He was swinging around this sword - blue and gold. I think he might have been using Projection or something?”

“Projection huh? Aside from that one isolated case in Fuyuki during a Subcategory, it’s not something anyone would use in combat. Interesting. And why did you come to Mayhunt if you didn’t want to win?”

“Ah, well. I was hired by a private security agency to find somebody. This elusive guy who they only know as「Black Shadow」on account of his clothing. Apparently, some freed footage from some cameras show this strange black blur around you at times.”

Your blood freezes as you think back to the strange man who awoke you and more or less conscripted you into this competition. There’s still much you don’t know about him - hell, you’re not even sure if he’s even a human at this point given his impossible ability to seemingly pop in and out of existence. Though your face shows no change in expression, you decide it best to downplay your involvement with him.

“I’ve seen him a few times, though I’m not entirely sure what he’s doing here… he’s not a Dead Apostle is he?”

“Oh, no. According to what I’ve been told by my employers, he’s actually a-”

A tray slams in the table as Berserker takes a seat next to the Chinese magus. The black plastic object is absolutely loaded with breakfast sandwiches and a few jugs of milk. You immediately begin to regret letting him run rampant with your money. Kun almost seems lost for a few seconds as she simply stares at the Heroic Spirit of Madness scarf down the food - so much for being a knight. He seems too preoccupied to even engage in conversation. You immediately shake your head, though he doesn't seem to notice your disapproval.

“...Ah, is that you Kun?”

A man with hair as gold as yours approaches you with a tray in his hands. He’s wearing conpsicous black robes adorned with silver crosses. It also seems that he’s one of those strange characters who always keep their eyes shut. He approaches as the young ex-Master waves him over with a smile.

“Oh, that's right, you haven’t met yet. Ms. Twain, this is Ghyslain Richelieu, the Overseer for this event. And Mr. Richelieu, this is the seventh Master. I mean I already said that but yeah. Oh, and this is her Servant.”

He smiles and you don’t object as he shakes your hand and slides into the seat next to you. He seems to speak with a slight French accent and perhaps is around your age. The Church hardly ever involves itself in Subcategory Holy Grail Wars so it’s been rather difficult for you to gather information on their role and possible impact on the conflict. The Great Holy Grail War offered you no help either, especially with the revelations about Kotomine as several of Yggdmillenia's more gossip oriented members have leaked out.

 1. “Charmed. My apologies for not meeting you sooner, I’ve been rather busy these last few days as you can imagine. I hope that our relationship going forward is a cordial one regardless of what transpires this week.”

 2. “Interesting, this is my first time meeting someone associated with the Church. Seeing as how you’re privy to this magi conflict, I assume you must have had quite an interesting work history.”

 3. “...Richelieu? As in the Cardinal Richelieu who was the villain in the Three Musketeers?”
