Cater Diamond

BOOM

Too late. With his concentration broken, the Cater clone disappeared. To make matters worse, the bear was back. So despite the bear being seemingly sentient, there were also multiple copies? Maybe there was a sort of magic at play.

"Now, you all gonna sit down and let me finish explaining, or do you want to needlessly go through another explosion! Don't even try leaving at this point-- I've locked the room until I'm done!"

He didn’t want to listen. He didn’t want to hear anymore the crazy bear had to say. He wanted to travel back through the mirror and return to his normal school life.

Claude passed Cater as he ran to the door. Sure enough, it was as the bear said.

Cater looked upon the room in horror. The scent of blood and smoke filled the air. Various cries, gasps and quiet sobs rang throughout the room from the participants. Claude was the first to speak once more.

"At least the bloodshed I was involved in wasn't meaningless, unlike this!! And you just want us to play along.... We're not just going to do that."

It’s not as if Cater hadn’t experience dangerous situations before. Danger is par for the course when you go to a magic school. But the despair and hopelessness he felt in the moment was unparalleled. There was no hope for total survival. There would be death. But then, he thought back to the words used to describe him. Mediator, it read. He had to live up to those expectations. He was used to putting on a brave face, he did it all the time. He had to be brave for the ones who couldn’t. He had to keep the peace as best he could.

Cater attempted to shake off his nerves. He watched Claude return to his seat and followed suit.

“Everyone please come back to your seats. We should hear what the bear has to say. There’s no harm in that.”

His eyes met with Marie’s and gave the biggest most genuine smile he could.

“And uhh Monokuma was it? Can I call you Mo-Ku? Listen Mo-Ku, I think we can both agree that a fair warning should have been administered first before we tried exploding people.”

After some thorough searching by those labelled as "Participants," it became clear that despite the size of the building they found themselves in it contained very few clues that gave any indication toward what was going on. After finding the photographs and microphone in the Day-Care Centre, it was clear nothing else of note remained. In addition, despite the myriad of potential weapons and food in the Restaurant, there was nothing beyond there either. The other locations were similar, with the Café only containing drinks and a myriad of espresso machines, while the Sporting Goods Store was just filled with, you guessed it, sporting goods. The bathrooms contained nothing special and neither did the Laundry Room, which just allowed everyone to wash their clothes.

As for the peculiar box found in the Gym Storage... it was unclear what was inside just from shaking it. Aru and those who had the box happened to find a strange metal rod inside. It seemed to have no particular use, though it had a design of flowers engraved on it. No one could tell them if it had any function for the gym equipment, so its use remained a mystery.

With the note in the Office indicating everyone should head to the conference room, it wasn't long before Claude and the others had everyone heading that way. Their efforts had been mostly successful, though it seemed someone wanted this to happen, so Trixie and Sunset found that the floor lit up underneath them, directing them to pick up their tablets and toward the Office. Even the tablets began to remind everyone to the head to the office. Whoever those messages were being sent from was entirely unknown. Thanks to making use of the tablet features, the three applications everyone now had access to were the player profiles, a map, and a messenger function that did not save their message history.

It took a while, but finally everyone was seated. There were exactly thirty-two chairs for thirty-two people. They surrounded a long oval table.

No one could possibly know what to expect what would happen next.

As soon as they all sat down, a projector descended from the ceiling, along with a medium-sized stuffed animal clinging to it. Frank would recognize it immediately as matching the bear he found in the snow globe. The stuffed animal, strangely enough, began to move, unclasping the projector and standing up straight on the table. It was in the shape of a bear, though colored black and white in halves. His mouth seemed wider and toothier in the black half, while his eye was misshapen and red.

"What?" uttered the bear, tilting its head to the side. Was it a robot? Was it a living being? It spoke in a high-pitched masculine voice. "Have you guys never seen a bear before? Is that it? The most adorable bear you've ever seen?"

What?

"Is this a joke?" Clementine offered.

"A joke?" the bear repeated. "Huh, I don't hear anyone laughing, do you? Well, maybe a little chuckling is in order. I am quite the comedian, after all. But I hate to tell you that I'm here for a very serious reason!" The bear raised one arm into the air excitedly. "Here's the thing, my name is Monokuma! Bear extraordinaire! And I'm in charge of this here shindig! You got it? Every game has a gamemaster and that. Is. Me!"

The projector turned on, showing an image of Monokuma. "See? Look at that bear. So exquisite." On screen, an animated cage drops down around Monokuma, trapping him. "And that's the situation you're all in! You are trapped in this building with no way out. If you think that's a lie, well, the ninja who decided to play a prank tried to get out and we totally burned up his costume for it." On-screen Monokuma attacked his cage and erupted into flames.

"Not that we need flamethrowers to keep you inside. It's one of the most secure places in existence! So much so, that you'll probably be desperate to get outside... Thankfully, I do have a solution for you all!" The cage lifted from around projector Monokuma and he suddenly had his claws out. "Murder! This is a death game, people! We'll let you out if you kill each other. And I do mean kill. Any way you want, even. Bludgeon... Poison... Stabbing... Choking... There's so many options!"

While Monokuma went on and on, Menma had been staying in the sidelines, keeping her mouth shut and observing her situation. As much as she was hot-headed, she wasn't sure how to swallow her current reality. She had kept quiet and away from the others up to this point, but now she was reaching her limit.

This was all bullshit.

She sat in the conference room, among the other varied faces staring blankly accepting their fate-- but she wouldn't.

Menma couldn't hold back any longer, didn't help that the creature was smug. She didn't like that. She stood to her feet so quickly the chair she was previously sitting on flew back and slammed into the floor. She quietly approached the mouthy thing before drawing her fist back, attempting to punch him.

"What the FUCK is all of this shit? These people might be lambs to the slaughter but not me you motherfuck--"

Without missing a beat, Monokuma reached out with one arm and grabbed Menma by the throat. He had a lot of power for such a small bear. "Oh, and I forgot to mention we have some rules you have to follow," Monokuma said. "One of them being: Don't lay a hand on the gamemaster!"

Monokuma's red eye began to beep rhythmically, growing in speed as if he was a bomb. Was he a bomb?

"H-Hold on!" Clementine yelled, jumping out of her chair and using her crutches to climb on to the table. She tried bringing them up with her to smack the bear off of Menma. In just a few short moments, it seemed the bear was about to explode for real!

Atsushi wouldn't of believed the bear was the 'mastermind', but maybe he worked with someone? The bear quickly proved to be annoying in how it spoke, but he had enough sense to up his guard, watching as Menma moved to attack Monokuma, who quickly proved to hold more strength than his small size suggested.

3bb37e4dabef0d5051ae15072e5fbe3e0fa5df79.png

The beeping quickly alerted Atsuhsi to the fact that the bear was going to explode, and his features quickly changed in response: his eyes became cat like and his hands became furred as his nails became claws in quick succession to try and get Monikuma away before it exploded.

Even with his ability being dampened in some way, he was sure that he still had enough power in him to protect himself if need be.

Kotomine and the others had done so, and even if the explosion was small, Atsushi used one of his arms to protect his face from potential shrapnel as he used his own chair to protect the rest of his body as best as possible.

While he appeared calm on the outside, he was anything but on the inside. He didn't want to be lock in this room with a ticking time bomb, for one. Best to listen for now, and once the opportunity to leave this place and return home, if it ever presented itself, he'd hold onto it.

Daycare First Section --> Conference Room

"H-hut!? Gobble!? DEMONS!?" Pinkie screamed, looking at Wanda surprisingly. Of course, Pinkie jumped to the conclusion that the woman next to them was correct. Was Wanda like Zecora, the brewer of potions and ailments? Was she going to eat Pinkie Pie? Even though Pinkie was pink and had "Pie" as her last name, that didn't mean she was tasty! Maybe Usagi tasted good, but certainly not Pinkie! "I don't want to get eaten!"

As if to make a point that she didn't want to get gobbled up, Pinkie quickly cleared her throat and sang out in the loudest and highest pitched voice possible:

"She's an evil enchantress
She does evil dances
And if you look deep in her eyes
She'll put you in trances
Then what will she do?
She'll mix up an evil brew
Then she'll gobble you up
In a big tasty stew
Soooo...
Watch out!"

She made wide hand gestures while singing the dramatic song, looking at everyone as if she were sharing a horror story. While Pinkie Pie had originally made this song for an enchantress named Zecora before, she sang this out loud for Wanda now. She now looked at Wanda for affirmation, as if asking if all the things being said were true. She didn't know why Wanda would eat them up, though. Oh! Maybe she was hungry! Pinkie had certainly done completely random things when she was hungry. This hungriness would immediately be cured, though, when eating a batch of delicious, sugary cupcakes. Maybe she just needed to make Wanda a patch of them to make her not gobble them all up!

With Atsushi's comment on how they should see what it is, Pinkie gave this as an affirmation for them to get going. She gave two thumbs up to the boy before opening the daycare door, stepping out into the main area again where she was met with others making their way over to the conference room. Did they all get the text from the unknown L. Worth as well? Maybe Atsushi was wrong! Maybe all of them would get to the conference room, and they could all see the potential party in there! How would Pinkie be able to go to the conference room, though? Where in the world... well, building, would she find this?

...oh, right! Her map app!

Immediately going onto her tablet again, she navigated to the map app. When opening it, she was received with a large image that showed all the things they have discovered thus far: their rooms, the reception, the main area, and all the little stores/offices that were open to them. If Pinkie were to go looking for her party cannon, this app would be incredibly useful to her. What were the locked areas on the map, though? Were those the areas that were not available to them at the moment? If that was the case, how would they be able to get over there? Maybe this was all just one big, innocent puzzle that the group had to solve to get out of here?

Whatever the case, Pinkie quickly found the office on her map and pointed there, as if telling the people who were near her where the conference room was. "Found it!" After announcing to the world that she discovered where the conference room was, she skipped freely to the area excitedly, not knowing what would await her. Everyone was coming! "This is the best surprise party ever!!"

When she opened the conference room door, she shut her eyes in anticipation, expecting confetti to spread around her and a loud party cannon noise to fill the room. A second past. Then two. Five. She opened her eyes at last, looking around confused as if a party was expected by everyone here. She didn't see balloons or cupcakes or any party attire at all, but a huge round table that has thirty-two seats in total. People already seemed to be sitting down or having already been sat down. Confused, Pinkie sat down in one of the seats and said puzzlingly, "This is one surprise of a surprise party! There's no cake or anything!"

After a moment of waiting, a projector then descended from the roof, leaving Pinkie to perk up again in excitement for hope of getting a party. Was it starting? Of course it was starting! A stuffed animal was attached to the projector, and stuffed animals always meant fun and games... right? Right! She began clapping, quite ready for everything to start, but her quick claps slowed down greatly when the stuffed animal started moving. Pinkie Pie's memory immediately went back to the daycare room, where a majority of stuffed animals and toys in general laid unmoving. She was pretty sure stuffed animals didn't move here, so why was this bear an exception?

She looked bewildered for a few seconds, not getting anything the bear Monokuma was saying until he brought up the word game. Pinkie's face filled with relief and happiness, straightening her back in eagerness. She knew this was a party! What sort of event wouldn't be a party if it didn't have games? Monokuma must have been the party planner if he called himself the "gamemaster"! And Pinkie herself was called the Ultimate Party Planner! If Monokuma could pull all of this off, he was the one who deserved that Ultimate title!

When animations started playing on the screen, Pinkie stared at them as if she were sucked into how they were being projected. She was missing the entire dark point of the lesson Monokuma was giving them, clapping after every single little cartoon was played. Wow, the flames that suddenly burst were exciting! She had no idea why they suddenly came up, but maybe it was there to lift their spirits for the party!

Pinkie only started listening to Monokuma when he brought up the most despairing comment of them all:
"Murder! This is a death game, people! We'll let you out if you kill each other. And I do mean kill. Any way you want, even. Bludgeon... Poison... Stabbing... Choking... There's so many options!"

While Pinkie had been holding onto hope as much as she could, this was the last straw for her. The talking of death had been in the speeches of everyone else, but when it finally came out of the mouth of this bear, it got to Pinkie. Her normal, pink curly hair seemed to deflate, becoming something like straight hair. It had a similar appearance as if it suddenly became wet. A look of horror and terror dominated her facial expression now, although this was much less animated than when she looked at Atsushi.

"N-no," She blurted out, although she wasn't speaking as loud as she usually would. She seemed to be hopeless now, not being as excited and joyful as before. "Why... no... not... killing! No..."

In a flash, it all seemed to happen. A girl stood up to Monokuma, Monokuma grabbing her, a bomb-like noise coming, and everyone stepping up to stop him. Pinkie just seemed to sit there, though, silently wallowing from what Monokuma just said. Kill. This couldn't have been happening. This can't be happening! Why did the others have to be right? Why couldn't there have been a surprise party here, one Sophie might not have enjoyed? Why couldn't they just keep watching the animations on the projector, seeing the flames over and over again?

Although Pinkie was like this, she had some sense of courage to move under the table. Whether it was the increased beeping that filled the room or how others were evading the scene, Pinkie suddenly got the survival instinct to savor her life and avoid this death-threatening bomb. This movement seemed to save her, as she heard the BOOM that quickly came out from above the oval-shaped table.

Then there was silence. After a moment or two of waiting, Pinkie, shaking with all her might, stood up from under the table, but what she saw was nothing like she saw before. She had never seen something so gory before. Blood, gashes, and injuries were everywhere, while a girl lay damaged somewhere. The smell of blood and smoke filled Pinkie's nostrils, and any hope that she still had in her seemed to be overrun by despair.

When Monokuma kept on repeating how this was all real, Pinkie covered her ears and put her back against a wall. She couldn't survive a bad argument without having her energy drain. How was she supposed to get through this? How was she supposed to be here, trapped in these circumstances? Tears filled her eyes for the first time in a while, as her legs suddenly gave way under the stressful situation.

"Please!!" She sobbed, sinking to the floor. "No, no, no! NO!" While Pinkie knew that she should go over to Usagi and check up on her, she found it impossible to move. Impossible to get in the reality of where they were. Impossible to know that Usagi was hurt, and it was his fault.

The smell of blood and burnt flesh made his nostrils flared momentarily.

His eyes had more or less returned to normal, as well as the rest of his body as he turned to Pinkie Pie. Any injuries he sustained, he ignored for the time being to be worried about later. Unlike him; the others might be injured worse such as Usagi, Clementine, or Kotomine, as well as Menma being horribly hurt by being close to the blast.

"Pinkie Pie, can you move? The faster we hear this...bear out, the faster we can leave this room." He reasoned, his voice rather soft in an attempt to at least coax her into looking at him as he knealed in front of her.

Almost as soon as Aru turned away from Tobi to explain the issue of the box, standing immediately next to her on her opposite flank was Faust. The doctor bent over the Ultimate Outlaw's shoulder with an audible wooden creaking sound, humming intensely and rubbing his chin through the bag. It seemed that he wasn't registering Tobi just yet, far more intent on giving the box a thorough look-over, before standing closer to his full height again and tilting his head to one side.

"Curious, curious, curious! Another indication of intelligent design in this entire set-up. Are we peering behind the curtain, or is this just another piece of the puzzle that'll come into play later, I wonder?"

It was a legitimate question, indeed! But one that he might already have the answer for. It is often hard to find patterns in the natural world if you haven't had ample experience creating those patterns from scratch. There were memories of trying to peel away the mask somewhere in his head. Games being played. Puzzles are being solved—a maddening symphony for lost patients that only ends in one way. The doctor's humming ceased, and he turned away, beginning to move towards the gym entrance. He seemed to have acknowledged the muffled pinging from the pad under his coat without needing to pull it out.

"Perhaps... it would be best to leave it here for now. You don't want to be lugging around a heavy box everywhere, do you? You're just asking for chronic back pains, sis!" Faust proclaimed loudly, bobbing his head and snapping his fingers. A moment passes, and his eyehole blinks - somehow. "... Ehem, sorry. But it would seem this gym is medically-certified! Or, well - not really. But, there is nothing here of note! So, if you'll excuse me, I have a patient calling~!"

He moved past Tobi. "Pardon me, Pyramid Hea-- er, sorry. Tobi the Ultimate Ninja now, is it?"

The doctor stopped and turned to face the ninja, the eyehole on his bag twisting into an upturned crescent - a smile lacking any good intentions - as he raised a warning finger. "Never lie to your doctor, Tobi. You'll never get the right treatment if you go that way... though, for what it was worth, a good joke is a good joke~! You're a ninja after my own heart, truly."

"Now, then! I've work to do! Busy, busy, busy!"

Faust threw his hand into a crooked salute, spinning on his heel and hunching under the doorway, scrambling off like a cryptid. Any attempt to follow Faust out of the gym would find that the doctor seemed to have vanished from thin air as soon as he passed through the doorway.

A few seconds later, those in the office could hear an intense rattling from one of the cubicles closest to the conference room. A filing cabinet flings open with a rattling bang before a familiarly spindly, clothed limb snakes from the inside of the cabinet, gripping the side of it and pulling the rest of a fully-formed Faust free from the confines of his metal prison, a wonderful chorus of uncomfortable bone-cracking sounds heralding his arrival.

The doctor flopped onto the ground like a used towel and kicked the cabinet close with his foot, only to then dextrously fold himself up into a standing position, his clothes and brown paper bag remaining fully intact as he dusted himself off and looked to Claude and the rest of waiting for office dwellers, throwing up a peace sign.

"You called~?! I was expecting a full audience! That maneuver is excruciatingly painful, haha!"

Frank's, Usagi's and Clementine's efforts alone weren't enough to get Monokuma off of Menma. It took Kotomine's mildly more powerful efforts to actually shove the bear away, though his grip on Menma meant she was pulled with him slightly. Despite Claude's pleas to flee, there was not enough time to get out of the room now before Monokuma's stuffed animal form exploded as expected. It was not a very large explosion, but the debris that shot out from the bear threatened everyone. Clementine and Usagi were thrown right off the table, Usagi even slamming right against the wall as a result. Clementine tumbled to the ground in a heap, her crutches destroyed. Debris lodged itself into the shoulder of Frank and the leg of Kotomine. Menma herself had been the closest, so as she was thrown from the table, a trail of blood followed her. Once she had landed, it was clear she was still alive... though her face was a mess. A horrible gash went right across her face.

Whether the others used the chairs as defense, ducked under the table, or was just lucky enough to be far enough away from the blast, they all escaped unscathed. There was a chilling silence that followed. The bear had blown up, so did that mean it was over?

Perhaps unsurprisingly, another bear dropped down from the ceiling in its place, looking exactly the same. "I'm not flesh and blood like all of you chumps!" Monokuma cried. "My consciousness is spread across an unlimited amount of bodies! Threaten me all you want, you simply will face punishment as a result!"

Monokuma looked down at Menma, who was bleeding profusely. "You see that? The blood? Smell the smoke in the air? The pain you feel? It's real. This is all real." He then fixed his gaze on Claude. "Do you really think I've never heard that before? Everyone's capable of murder. Everyone! Pushing someone to their limits is my specialty! Really, that's pretty rich coming from you! You've seen more bloodshed than most of the people here!"

Monokuma looked angry as he brandished a claw. "Now, you all gonna sit down and let me finish explaining, or do you want to needlessly go through another explosion! Don't even try leaving at this point-- I've locked the room until I'm done!"

A box…….HMMMMM……a box……

Though before he could say anything he felt Faust look down at him, he looked up at him and a slight yelp as he he was startled. But that was apart of the whole act he put up here.

AH! Of course doctor, no lies hehe!

He said totally and obviously lying to the doctor as he waved to the doctor as he left the gym.

Though as a bear suddenly appeared he noticed that everyone else was in the gym with the ultimate ninja and the ultimate outlaw.

Though as he listened he heard a few words. A killing game. That was surely exciting! He saw that some peoples reactions were appropriate, after all the only way they could leave is killing each other.

Are you and Faust friends? Me and him are currently in an alliance if so, I believe that the three of us should engage in an alliance, I wouldn’t trust anyone here so far, if I was you I would be joining an alliance preferably with me and Faust.

He said as he tilted his head at her scratching the back of his head before listening to what else the strange bear had to say.

And what happens if someone kills somebody and gets away with it?

At some point, the box seemed to have given way... Much to Sakurako's surprise, who seemed a little disappointed not being able to gauge its contents just by shaking it. Taking a look at the strange, metal rod with flower engravings, she tilted her head to one side. Then, she shrugged and handed it over to Aru.

"I cannot store this in my present state." She said simply.

It was at that point though that she too was quickly called down to the Office. It was there that she quietly listened to the briefing, her expression blank as she began to process the information at hand.

"Location: Unidentified Building, Status: Locked In, Reason: Death Game, Orchestrator of Events: Monokuma, Threat Assessment: Moderate Danger."

It was at that point that she observed Menma getting grabbed by Monokuma, followed by the telltale flash of light, indicating an explosive.

"Find cover!" She shouted.

Quickly, she dashed forwards, attempting to wrestle Menma from Monokuma's grasp, to no avail.

"Strength: Insufficient, Reason: Nullified, Recourse: Damage Control."

Unable to successfully free Menma, she instead quickly dove to a chair, using it as hard-cover. Some of the shrapnel embedded itself into her legs, but she managed to obstruct her torso and face.

"Damage Assessment: Minor Penetration Wounds, Damaged Sections: Lower Legs, Status: Mildly Restricted Mobility, Action: Tend to Injured Secondary Action: Comply with Instructions."

With that, she quickly moved to tend to Menma, while simultaneously listening to what remained of Monokuma's explanation of their situation. Remembering having grabbed a towel from the Gym, taking the 'Take One' sign quite literally.

As her clothes were less than ideal for bandaging, she instead began to put pressure on the wound using the towel.

"I require medical supplies. May I request some assistance? I know first-aid, but I lack the resources." She asked, hoping someone in her vicinity could help her.

Fortunately she had data uploaded to her about first aid, and in theory... She was capable of it, but... She lacked the supplies to seal up the gash.

Louise had screamed, getting down to the ground during the explosion, that sickening ringing still vibrating through her head as she mustered up the will to return to her seat. A few black tears had slipped down her face - thankfully, few enough to be blamed on mascara. Weakly, the former attorney raised her hand, finally asking in a small voice, "Um, I'm sorry - could you please not - say the word " murder"? Anything else is fine-" She felt terrified even asking for this concession, as if something terrible would happen to her in response, but she really couldn't handle the constant thunder right now.

Monokuma smiled Tobi's way. "If you want to be in an alliance with me, I have only one request... No, two! Do you know how to play the clarinet? Doesn't matter. The more important thing is that you gotta kill, got that? And what happens when you kill? Well..."

The projector had gone undamaged in the explosion and now it was showing an image of Monokuma killing another Monokuma. The murderer bear raised his arms in triumph on screen. Then, other Monokumas crowded the scene, looking it over each with their own magnifying glass. Following this, all the Monokumas gathered in a circle and pointed fingers at each other.

"See, if you do kill each other, great! But the thing is... We're not looking for needless, wanton bloodshed." He waved a paw in Claude's direction. "No no, you have to be careful with your kills. You see, a killer is marked. Stained. They are blackened. And the blackened, plus everyone else, must then proceed through a trial, where every survivor tries to figure out whodunnit! Then it becomes a different kind of game! Murderer versus survivors! The killer wants everyone to guess the wrong suspect, for if they do, they alone get to leave this place! If everyone guesses right, however... well, then they win."

Then they win. Monokuma said it so casually. He eyed Cater and tilted his head.

M3.png

"Mo-Ku? Listen, maybe if you paid attention, you would see I gave plenty of warning! Probably only that one girl would have been hurt if you all properly ducked for cover. Probably."

Monokuma seemed unconcerned with the mad dash to get the victims medical aid.

"Now then, every game's gotta have rules, right? Well, here's a little rundown so we don't have any more incidents."

The projector changed to show a list of rules:

Rule #1: Violence against the host and gamemaster, Monokuma, is strictly prohibited, as is destruction of sensitive equipment.
Rule #2: Under no circumstances may you destroy your tablet.
Rule #3: "Nighttime" is from 10 PM to 6 AM. The restaurant is locked during nighttime.
Rule #4: Sleeping anywhere other than the hotel is prohibited.
Rule #5: Anyone who kills a fellow participant and becomes "blackened" will be able to leave, unless they are discovered.
Rule #6: Once a murder takes place, a trial will begin shortly thereafter. Participation is mandatory for all surviving participants.
Rule #7: Additional regulations will be added.

It seemed that with this, the application, MEMO, was now activated. The list of rules was in everyone's memos already.

"And really..." Monokuma shrugged at Louise. "I think this one will be really easy to kill. Any takers?"

Pinkie had always been one to live in her own world, blocking out the atrocities that came at her. However, she had never blocked out the world like this: shutting her eyes, covering her ears, and refusing to believe the reality they were in. Where was her oblivious side now? Where was the hope that they were all friends? Where was the happiness of enjoying all the world's pleasures, never believing that someone couldn't smile? Where was the sense of playfulness and safety she always had with her? All these things she has had for years seemed to disperse in this moment with Monokuma. What was going on?

The only thing Pinkie could sense right now was the tears rolling down her face. She had completely blocked out everything that wasn't right next to her: sounds, sights, touches. How else was she supposed to cope? Pinkie Pie had always lived in an innocent world, filled with magic and adventure. The most violent encounters she had were sporting competitions or magic fights. No. No, she can't think that right now! Pinkie's left hand went away from her ear, now grasping her hair will all her might. What had she said before? Something about how if they think of these types of things, they would become crazy cat ladies? Yes... yes, Pinkie must stop thinking these things! She must keep denying everything! Keep not believing this is all real! Maybe this is all a dream? Maybe this is an escape room, as she said before, and this stuffed animal was only saying these things to keep them in suspense!

No matter how much Pinkie denied it, though, she didn't believe it. She had already been denying everything since they got here, and this was just proof of everyone's accusations. She couldn't believe the hopeful comments that sprang through her head, and she doubted that even if she did, they would all be incorrect. How would she get through this? How would she even survive this?

"Pinkie Pie, can you move? The faster we hear this...bear out, the faster we can leave this room."

Pinkie Pie heard this voice that belonged to Atsushi in her left ear, but she stayed put. Leave... this was now what Pinkie was thinking about. When Atsushi said this word, her mind immediately sprang to what Monokuma said earlier about the only way they could get out:

"Murder! This is a death game, people! We'll let you out if you kill each other. And I do mean kill. Any way you want, even. Bludgeon... Poison... Stabbing... Choking... There's so many options!"

People wouldn't listen to that, right? They wouldn't do that to people, right? Pinkie was just wrong for having all these thoughts, right? It seemed as though through all this hopelessness, there was something inside her that kept fighting back. Was it the magic of friendship? It must have been. So... what would have happened if this magic disappeared from her? Only after thinking of these thoughts, Pinkie turned her head towards Atsushi, looking at him kneeling down in front of her.

"Atsushi? Are we... friends? Do you consider me that, or do you consider me someone you would..." She covered her mouth before she could speak anymore, eyes widened in fear. He wouldn't be thinking of killing her, right? She now stared at the boy, as if seeking an answer. The girl checking the body in the background went over Pinkie's head, along with Monokuma starting to go over the rules. Pinkie didn't seem willing to move, though, until Atsushi answered her question.

"I only have one other person I could consider a friend, and she's not here. So...yes, we're friends. I'm not used to friends, but I wouldn't consider killing you." He spoke honestly, keeping the same quiet tone. Killing Pinkie Pie never even crossed his mind, in all honestly. She was odd, and much like a child, yes, but she at least wasn't a threat to him.

If that were to change, as unlikely as it seemed with her at least, then maybe he wouldn't bat an eye if something happened.

"Did you get hurt?" Atsushi asked, keeping the calm tone, though glanced at the bear as he brought up the rules.

His tablet buzzed in his pocket shortly after, but he'd look at it later. Instead, he kept one ear on Monokuma as he gave Pinkie Pie the rest of his attention.

Sakurako listened to the rules and conditions intently, seeming to analyze them thoroughly. In order to return from whence she came, to fulfill her duty as the protector of the four she were assigned to in Kamihama, she needed to survive.

However, that being said? She also would like to survive without killing anyone.

Then there was Monokuma's offer, which she quickly deduced the issues with.

Xdi9E46.png

"My answer to your proposal against Louise is 'no'. Surely such an action would incur both rule number 5, and 6, correct?" She said.

Her words were a little stiff, robotic even, but... They made some level of sense. While she did not openly admit she did not wish to kill another, she did find it imperative to ask about the consequences of taking up this particular offer.

The others are all yelling. The girl with the crutches is hitting at the bear, but he still won’t let go, his dirty little hands are still wrapped around that girl’s throat, but Usagi’s throwing all her weight to the ground and he’s still not moving and his eye is beeping faster and faster and fasterfasterfasterfasterfasterfa—

BOOM

Usagi’s thrown backwards by the force of the explosion. She hits the wall and crumples to the ground with a thud.

“…..-ᴏ, ɴᴏ!! NO!!—“

“….—ɪɴᴅ ᴄᴏ
ᴠᴇʀ….!-“

There’s more shouting. More voices. And with them, a horrible swell of dread within her. This much she knows; even veiled through the shrill ringing that circles her ears.

Usagi tries with no small effort to pull her legs under herself to stand. They don’t budge an inch. Instead a rolling wave of ache runs through her, lungs to spine, forcing the air out of her with a whine.

Okay. That’s okay. Start slow. Ride the wave. Deep breaths, in and out. Don’t feel the pain; feel the swell of your lungs in inhale instead. The steady vacuum of exhale. Breathe. But make it like this:

INHALEexhaleINHALEexhaleINHALEexhaleINHALEexhaldINHALEexhaleinhaleexhaleinhaleexhaldinhaleexhaleinhaleexhaleinhaleexhaldinhaleexhale

Feeling comes back to her body all at once. Usagi jolts upright and her eyes fly open with a gasp.

Her body aches something fierce, only spurned by the frantic heave of her chest. It hurts, but she manages to stumble to her feet, clutched at the wall, so she figures she hasn’t broken anything; just bruised.

Her eyes blur on the ends as she drags her gaze around the room. The bear’s still there. But the girl he had in a chokehold is busy being fussed over by someone else; Usagi lets herself sag a bit in relief that, even if injured, nobody’s been blown to bits.

Pinkie Pie is looking terribly worse for wear, where she’s visibly deflated and mumbles desperately to the boy from earlier— Atsushi, Usagi manages to scrape up from the sizzling mess that is her brain right now.

For lack of better idea of what to do, Usagi stumbles over to Pinkie and Atsushi. She drops a heavy hand on Pinkie’s shoulder and then presses her forehead to the back of her hand.

Did you get hurt?” —she’d heard Atsushi say moments before, managing to snag at least that thread of conversation around her. After a beat Usagi lifts her head to blink blearily at both Atsushi and Pinkie.

“Mnng, that was so— what‘s going on? Neither of you have gotten hurt, have you?” Usagi asks.

Claude Von Riegan

Ultimate Stratigist

Claude had noticed Cater, but he wasn't able to speak to him in his current mood. He'd simply walked by him and returned to his seat, glancing toward the bear that they were being forced to listen to. He didn't care to remember its name. The thing - yes, Claude did not feel it was nessacary to continue giving Monokuma a gender - wanted them for nothing more than a sick game of murder. It was only confirmed by the rules flashing on the projector and the point being made that the only way to get out would be to kill someone and then get away with it.
"We don't have to play this. We don't have to cause meaningless bloodshed....there's got to be another way. I refuse to beleive that playing your sick game is the only way we're going to leave." he mumbled as he glanced off to the side in thought. There had to be other ways to be permitted to leave. If the murderer and only the murderer would leave if not caught then there must be a way to get a permit to leave. If they could find a way to do that and not have to kill, mayve there was a way for them to be able to return home. He refused to beleive murder was their only option, no matter what this bear told him. There was no need for a war amongst others who were in a situation no different than his. That's what he would beleive for now.

Monokuma let out a raucous, smug laugh. "Then you'll just have to kill her when everyone's backs are turned!" he said to Sakurako. "Some of you still aren't getting it, huh? You think there's another way? Do you even hear yourself speak, or do you have wax in your ears?! None of you remember how you got here, hmm? You can already tell you're from wildly different places... Some of you, if we let you run wild with your wacky powers, could level this whole building without even blinking! But we made it so you have no power at all. Do you really, really think that if we have all that power..."

Monokuma let out another little laugh. "... You don't think we could keep you here forever? Until you go absolutely bonkers from the isolation? Until you die of old age? Until you perish from a lack of vitamin D? If no one kills, you'll never go home again! You'll never see your family or friends! You won't be able to protect them, or your homeland, or even know the fate of those you knew! If no one kills, your life might as well already be over, and is that any way to live? Hmm?"

Monokuma turned the projector off and nodded to the door. "I'm done now. You can leave. But... I'll leave you with one more little thing. If you're still considering rallying around the others and trusting complete strangers, I should let you know that..."

Monokuma's red eye glowed.

"There is a traitor among your ranks. Every game goes better with someone on the inside, doesn't it?"

"Ugh..." Clementine groaned, finally pushing herself off the ground. "You... need to give us first aid. If this is a game... then it's not fair. You damn thing, it's not fair!"

The bear let out a resigned sigh. "Fine. Whatever. I'll put first aid in the bathrooms. Guess I'll give you something too so you can actually move around."

"Thine eyes are blind if you think the two of us are anything alike. Though mayhaps you are alike someone else I know, perhaps a little bit of familiarity for the time being may be of benefit even if from an oddity of the untrustworthy variety," Shinobu said as she exited into the hallway, observing those she spotted already there. Her goal was to simply stay in the background and out of sight for now, following them around and observing until something of note happened. She gave Patches a bit of a gesture to indicate these intentions. When the group took the elevators, Shinobu followed, not speaking a single word and making sure to avoid being near the conversation. Thankfully for her, there was an individual already grabbing everyone's attention by going from being a monstrous pyramid-wearing freak to an equally abnormal mask-and-cloak wearing buffoon.

When it came time for Shinobu to step in front of the monitor, she did so, finding the device it spat out rather intriguing seeing as it listed both the name given to her after meeting Koyomi and her actual age in its database, meaning either someone had been observing her for more than a few years, or only knew tiny bits about her. She made certain to take place in a corner out of the way of everyone afterwards, simply scrolling through the device for a short period of time until something else of interest happened. When a bear thing appeared with explanations of why they were all there and such, it was honestly rather disheartening to find out that they were there for someone's game of murder mystery. It all seemed a bit unnecessary and uninteresting. Though even less interesting was the individual speaking up about how they didn't have to kill each other and whatnot, so Shinobu stepped forward and cleared her throat with an 'Ahem.' "Bloodshed is only pointless if there be not a goal. Albeit I see not a purpose to thine game of hide and seek you seem so eager to enforce. Wouldst not a proper fight for survival be more entertaining than some boring game of who's the witch?"

Hamilton never thought he'd be listening so intently to a... weird, exploding bear thing called "Monokuma," which its name matched some of the other easterners present. Having sat further from him, and despite not knowing the threat of impending explosion, he was fortunate to emerge essentially unscathed after being blown off his feet by the shockwave. But there now presented another issue. If what Monokuma said was true, then he would not see Eliza again unless he killed one of these innocent souls!

Hamilton shook his head, pinching the bridge of his nose in disbelief. "Only the least sane would willingly participate in your murder game. What could you possibly seek to gain? A rogue gallery of unique persons and twisted fame? Or are you perhaps a delegate from above, from whence you came?" All these questions, which Hamilton doubted he would get much an answer out of. This was the worst part in his mind: not being able to argue back, as the other party essentially held a gun to everyone else's head.

A unique event that threw out the very ideals of his wondrous nation.

If there was an actual way out that did not include Monokuma's requirements, the bear creature sure made a shattering case that none existed.

1646043138219.png"Hack... it...?" Marie repeated, her eyebrows furrowing with confusion. "I don't understand. I don't understand any of this." The newcomer's interjection had startled her just a little, but honestly, the young woman was more worked up about the fact that Ren wasn't here with her than anything else. It was starting to eat away at her, the hole in her chest swirling with an unfamiliar sensation that she didn't know how to label. It tugged at her heart nevertheless, dull and faint as the feeling might have been. Was it perhaps... grief? She hadn't the slightest clue, nor did she have any time to think on it.

"...Ah." So, apparently, she'd been wrong about the whole sister thing. "Then who was he talking to?"

For better or worse, there was no time to actually answer her silly inquiry before the group made their way to the conference room and took their seats. Marie was more than a little unaccustomed to being in a room such as this, but she took her seat all the same, observing the other participants with quiet interest up until the moment that Monokuma descended. She didn't have a clue what the projector was, but she had to admit; the stuffed bear was cute. It reminded her a bit of the stuffed animals that could be won as prizes at the amusement park Ren and Kasumi had taken her to. Except... she didn't think that those talked. Even if they did, the things that the creature had to say were a bit strange. She wasn't particularly fazed by the talk of murder, and was a little confused by everyone suddenly jumping toward the plush when it grabbed Menma... but when the bear exploded, she did end up tipping her chair over backwards and tumbling out of it in a scramble to get away. That wasn't normal. Stuffed animals weren't supposed to explode. She could say that much with confidence.

Shaken up as she was by the explosion, Marie was quick to recover, she glancing between the various people around her. Some seemed angry, others afraid; all of them seemed to have the common trait, though, of protesting this situation. She could agree; she wanted, of course, to go home. But... why did everyone seem so upset with the price of doing so? She couldn't quite understand it, but the situation was too absurd to try to rationalize. Failing to notice Cater's attempt to reassure her with his smile, she managed to at least sit up straight and poke her head nervously over her fallen chair to look at Monokuma. "You said this is a game, right?" she chimed in, softly. Even through her thick accent, the sincerity was clear in her voice. "Usually, don't people have to all agree to play a game before it starts? This seems like a strange way to approach things..." And what did he mean, 'traitor'? Everyone here had seemed pretty oblivious as to how they'd wound up here. "Also, ah..." A beat passed, and the young woman ducked just slightly further behind her chair. "You're not going to explode again, are you?"

Zenterfold Zenterfold @Everybody(yeahhh)

Death game in order to leave the hotel? Weird talking bear thing goading them to killing each other? Said bear exploding on them before coming back with another bear body? A traitor hidden among them? This was really messed up. Nothing at the academy prepared her for this, nor did those outlaw movies she binged that one night a few weeks ago.

Awkwardly holding the rod that the Ultimate Rumor girl handed her, Aru managed to avoid the explosion that happened from that stupid bear, and now people were obviously hurt from this. With the conference room not sealed off anymore and Monokuma blabbing off the location of the first aid kits, the Ultimate Outlaw decided it was time to do stuff.

❝ Uh... Saku-chan, right? ❞ She shortens the girl's name to save herself some breath, ❝ You said you were needing medical supplies to help out the peeps here? Not saying I trust the stitchy teddy bear, but I can tag along to help get those supplies at the bathroom in case there's some real gnarly stuff hidden in there. Y'know? An outlaw like me knows how this stuff goes! ❞

Aru was trying to talk big and confidently, but those that were nearby and attentive could probably tell that her voice was shaky and full of uncertainty.

After all the 32 seats were filled, Nana briefly looked around the room. Sure enough, most of the faces she saw here matched what shown in the device, saved for maybe one missing pointy head individual and a masked ninja in his place. The moment she reached that conclusion, a stuffed bear arrived. Soon, it began explaining the most absurd thing the girl had heard in her entire life.

Solution... Murder... Nana quickly linked those words with the image of the cage being lifted. She visibly stiffened, which was extremely rare coming from someone who could compose herself and make desired expression as easily as breathing. Before the bear could continue, someone seemed to be unable to take anymore of that. Is that Menma... Izumi? What's her title and other info again? The fact that Nana and others were kidnapped simply to be pit against each other in a killing game was just too insane and unreal that it made her lose her calm and ability to think rationally

It took that sudden burst of bright light and loud sound to snap Nana back to reality. It's real. she told herself while quickly ducking under the table to avoid the explosion. The exact same words then could be heard again from the mouth of that damned bear. That's right, it's all real. The pink girl gritted her teeth and looked at the stuffed bear with the determined eyes.

If a stare had some energy, then the screen with rules would definitely be burnt down as Nana looked at them intensely. the bear then soon spoke about their restricted powers. This gave her an idea that Monokuma and whoever behind him did their homework well. At this point a chance that one of them could break out by force would be close to zero and that twisted bear might be really able to trap them here forever should the killing never occur.

Nana took a deep breath. She had ascertained their situation as well as the general objective and rules of the so-called game. With such ruleset, clearly the best thing to do would be to group up. The ultimate class leader thought as she looked at Shinoa next to her, then Marie, Clem and Cater a bit further away. Always moving in group had an advantage of being harder to be killed without knowing the culprit's identity, as well as more chance to have or create some alibi in case she really had to kill someone. If that's the case, then—

"There is a traitor among your ranks. Every game goes better with someone on the inside, doesn't it?"

"What!?" Nana couldn't help but snapped out loud in anguish. She glanced at the people she had talked to earlier, one by one. Although nothing was confirmed yet, Marie was the least of her concern. If that girl was a traitor then surely Nana would be able to discern her hidden intention. The rest, however... the pink girl looked at Cater. While she didn't detect anything out of place in their conversation earlier, she couldn't bring herself to trust those with that personality. There was always a chance that he's also an expert in psychology and was able to conceal his true color. Shinoa and Clem were just... too much. These two clearly had something in their past that shaped them into how they were and acted today. Without understanding their past thoroughly, there's no way Nana could tell if they were a traitor or not. And then there’s Mono...

That's not it!! She angrily thought while clenching her fist. Thinking about who the traitor could be was pointless! Grouping up and then sticking together was undoubtedly the best solution to this game of madness, and now it's ruined thanks to that single line from the damned bear. He could have lied or there could actually be a traitor. Heck, there could be even more than 1 of them, but none of that mattered. The fact that there COULD be a traitor would plant a seed of doubt in people, which would then bloom into thorns of distrust that made it almost impossible to stay close to each other

Nana took a deep breath again as she looked around the room. A traitor was one thing, but there was also this unproductive air that she could do something about.

srMa54F.jpg

"Um... everyone! may I have your attention please?"

Knowing how hard it was to actually accomplish something like that, the pink girl stood up and suddenly raised her high-pitched voice. While being the center of attention was nothing new to Nana, the feeling she received this time was entirely different. The girl tried her best to ignore the gazes that could give her the feeling of being analyzed, pressured or threatened while continuing in a confident and serious tone, yet somehow display an amiable feeling.

"My name is Nana. Nana Hiiragi, the Ultimate Class Leader." She briefly paused and made a warm smile. "I just want to say that one of my goals upon finding myself here is to become friends with each and everyone of you!" The girl paused again and made as many eye contacts as she could. These brief pauses weren't just to regulate her breathing. In a long speech like this, any words coming right after a silence would leave more impression on the listener. Of course, having that one hell of an absurd goal spoken out loud meant she would have more chance to get full attention from those still shocked by Monokuma or those who normally wouldn't give a fuck about anything. Obviously, there would be some doubtful or even loathing eyes on her, but it's not like she could do anything about it.

"No matter the situation, I always wish to make a lot of good memories! Something that I won't regret recalling while ALL OF US are living in peace AFTER LEAVING THIS PLACE!!" After almost screamed, Nana rested for a few second before continuing without losing any determination in her voice. "Killing someone else just to get out of here is wrong! I'm sure that if we work together then we can definitely find a way out without listening to that stupid bear!!"

Of course, killing someone else is wrong. Nana recalled some unpleasant memories. Back on that island, it was because the Talented were posing threat to mankind as a whole that she had to covertly kill them one by one. This place, however, didn't have a group of people as guilty as that. And because of that, there was no reason to kill anyone here just to entertain some psychopathic bear. At least, that's what she genuinely thought the moment she said those words. Oh, and...

"And who cares about this pointless traitor!? If everyone else is cooperating what would a traitor even do!!?" That's right, what could they even do if everyone else was unified? In the first place, what differentiated a traitor from ordinary players? Since this game encourage people to kill each other and get away with it, wasn't there a chance that the traitor themselves would be killed by someone else too? It's even made more sense to think that the traitor didn't exist in the first place. But suppose that they did exist, then the primary objective of a traitor, who sided with Monokuma, would unquestionably be maintaining the flow of the game and also somehow have to avoid being killed themselves. For starter, they would make sure that the killing happen regardless of its obstacles. If that's the case—

"To prevent the killing from actually happening, I have a plan!" While her mouth was moving, Nana eyes were working even harder looking for some peculiar reaction that her following plan would produce. "I propose that we use the buddy system where we stick to our roommate all the time without any exception!" She paused and looked at Shinoa next to her before continuing "If we do that, even if there is someone cruel enough to kill each other for real, or even if this traitor would kill us at the order of that annoying bear, they will never get away with it!" Not if the perpetrator killed both people in the pair though. She omitted that loophole from her speech. It's not like she planned to do it herself, but there was just no countermeasure to it for now, and saying that would give her no benefit at all. "So everyone, what do you think?"

—then the traitor would definitely act now and somehow prevent this from taking effect. The Ultimate Class Leader thought as she finished her lengthy introduction speech.

A look of actual anger crossed Louise's face at Monokuma calling her an easy kill. She was decades older than that thing, and if she didn't know better, she'd have tried to kick it across the room. "Only by a house," she countered, hoping the odd remark would dissuade at least a a few ideas about her being easy.

She lapsed into silence again, only speaking again after Nana had finished. "...maybe groups of three or four, instead of just two? That way, two people can't be alone for - you know, dying..." She hated the word murder for a reason, but she couldn't exactly tell everyone she had been in a whodunnit scenario before.

Stiles Stilinski

Things had happened in such rapid succession that Stiles hadn't been able to focus on one thing. There was a bear and then he had grabbed one of them and after some attacks, he had blown up and caused some collateral damage, followed by a whole bunch of other things ( He had managed to duck out of the way of the blast by curling himself into a ball on the floor) and had briefly lost focus in the time between that. Sure, he heard the rules and understood them.

"
You know, that's exactly the sort of thing one would say if there wasn't a traitor in our ranks as well to get us to distrust each other. Question about rule 2, does anything happen to someone else if we somehow break their tablet?" He decided to ask. It wasn't that he trusted anyone in this room- he didn't. He wasn't Scott who trusted everyone, he didn't trust anyone. Never had, never would. Stiles honestly didn't think the bear was going to let them go- it didn't seem in his best interest. There was a bit of silence before he decided to ask a question. " What if we were blackened before we got here?'

Like mother to a child, Pinkie would feel Wanda's arms wrapping around her, the witch's cape ingulfing her as the older women peered over, looking at Atsushi. "How hurt are you? You going to be okay, dear? " As those words left her lips, Wanda remembers about someone. The girl who was attacked the bear. Almost immediately dashing away from the boy, pinkie, and Usagi, Wanda ran towards the girl, glaring at the bear. "My god, please..." The witch kneeled checking her pulse.
To Wanda's surprise, the young girl was alive. Wanda turned to the group. "Doctor Faust, everyone! We have a live one here!" Wanda put pressure on the wound as she looked at Sera. "Go to the bathroom. Get me first aid, pleased?"

Frank Zhang

Although they managed to push the bear back, they couldn’t stop the explosion. Shrapnel headed everywhere, hitting him in the shoulder. Luckily, he already had on the football gear..

Stumbling back into a wall, Frank mentally checked himself for any damage. He had gotten lucky somehow, and the only place he was hit was in the shoulder. It didn’t hurt much, but he should probably check out out later. Leaning on his hockey stick like an old man would use a cane, he watched those also injured numbly. Gods…. He was really starting to dislike that bear.

Although what can next was worst. Although, why only was the restaurant blocked at night? The other rules, he could understand somewhat.

Not see any of his friends again? But they only had around a week until Gaea rose! How could he return to them and Hazel if he killed somebody, though? Looking around, Frank saw doubt and uncertainty in the eyes of the others. Although Frank wanted to believe that no one would kill, not being able to see anyone you care about was a really good motivator. And the part about a traitor… It was either a tactic to get them antsy, or the truth. Monokuma didn’t seem like he had lied about much else… He was spared this train of thought though, as the person he recognized as the one who had barged into his and Claude’s room managed to get up. First aid in the bathrooms? That was good news, at least

Moving over to Clementine, Frank offered his Hockey Stick for her to grab onto. He doubted he would need it.

“Hey, do you need some help getting to the bathroom?”

He was momentarily distracted from the girl with the former crutches however, when someone else started to talk.

It was a good idea, admitingly. Still, he could see a couple of flaws with the pink-haired girls plan. There wasn’t time to argue though, as they still had injured to deal with. Nobody seemed to be in danger of dying, but still.

Sophie soon heard all the commotion over by Usagi. She didn’t know any first aid but all she could do was join by her side.

She panicked, and in panic you can do crazy things.

"I propose that we use the buddy system where we stick to our roommate all the time without any exception!"

"Would you stop talking, please?" Sophie said, not really thinking much about the words coming out of her mouth, "We have injured people here! Do you think this is a good time for proposing these ideas!? Help us! There's a man with shrapnel in his leg, a girl who can't walk, and someone had their entire face cut into two! If you care so much about us then actually help the people who need help instead of posturing your social status!"

She stopped, covering her mouth. She didn't mean to flip out at Nana. It was all panic, she was scared, and she flips out when she's scared.

"Oh my god... I'm so sorry..."

Louise glanced at the panicking girl, a look of sympathy crossing her face. "...you're right, but - we need to ensure everyone's safe in the future too, you know? After - everyone gets healed, we - need to know what to do next. We need to be careful with our choices."

M4A.png"Oh... I like this one," Monokuma said, eyeing Shinobu. "I do have half a mind to let you all run wild in a game of slaughter and survival, but that's simply not how this works! You clearly misunderstand what goes into a murder! The determination, the grit, the despair... Watching someone fight desperately to hide their sin is a fascinating experience! Why do you think people love crime shows so much, huh? It's the mystery! Frankly, I don't know why more of you aren't more excited."

He then turned his attention to Hamilton and Marie. "Ah... of course you'd want to know all that. Your little brains must be turning so fast right now! You see, it doesn't matter at all what anyone has to gain from this. It just is what it is! This is your reality now! Blame me or blame God, I don't care! Besides, we don't have to worry about little things like permission and release forms here." Monokuma put a paw to his chin in thought. "Though, maybe you did sign something before you got here and you just don't remember... Think about that at all? Of course, the traitor totally knows, so I'd watch out for them."

"Wait..." The bear scratched his chin further when Stiles spoke up. "What? Oh, of course, yeah. A ton of you have already killed before, but that doesn't matter here! Your slate is wiped clean! I would maybe talk about that if I was you guys, considering that probably gives a bit of an advantage, you think? If you really want a reason for someone to kill you, go ahead and destroy their tablet! You'd really be giving them a disadvantage! You need it to open just about all the locks! Of course, we're not idiots. It's not that easy to break them, just so you know."

Monokuma had nothing to say about Nana's speech or proposal. Perhaps for him, it meant the game was truly afoot now.

Clementine looked up at Frank and nodded. Too much had happened all at once for the girl to really register it all. She pushed herself up using the desk so that she could grab hold of Frank and lean on to him. It seemed that for her and a few others, a trip to the bathrooms was now necessary.

Hamilton watched on with a mildly growing interest. He listened with intent as the children started bikering at each other (and raised a brow as one proposed the basis of an idea). Straightening his clothes, Hamilton cleared his throat.

He addressed Sophie first. "While I sympathize with the sentiment—I fought in the imminent war for crying out loud—we must consider the long-term plan concerning our predicament. With the injured, I fear our killer may grow antsy at an easy picking." Hamilton spared a glance at the pink-haired girl named Nana. Another easterner by the look of it.

He motioned her to settle down; these issues were more appropriate for a Founding Father. "I propose a sort of run of the mill 'checks and balances,' if you will." He chuckled smugly. "Our odd little device apparently transmits messages across the room in a instant—better than the two weeks it would take in my instance—I say that, before traveling to any location, we message at least two other people where we go, and who else we messaged. That way, we will have alibis and a way to single out a potential killer, so..."

Hamilton began pacing about as he would when addressing the government. "Say I wish to head into the restaurant with my partner for a drink. I message two other people, tell them who I am, where I am, and who else knows. We let them to think. Then we turn up dead. And, unless our killer is a slick one, they'd have to separate from their partners and somehow make it to us. And unless we change the little girl's idea to include three partners this provides little chance for an incompetent murderer to strike."

Hamilton sat with a shrug. "Of course, I digress, there are ways around my plan, I confess. But unless we linger in inactiveness, we risk the incorrect assessment of powerless death. The more we falter whatever potential killer is here to address, we more likely we make it out of this mess."

Like earlier, Nana could recall Sophie's full information without touching her device, and the first thing she noted was that title of Ultimate Survivor. In typical game designing perspective, when you add a new character into an already completed roster, something usually stood out. For instance, some weirdly similar aspect to the existing character. The pink girl glanced at Clem who held the title Ultimate Survivalist before looking back at Sophie. While she had that title and even objected Nana's idea as predicted, the word "traumatized" flashed in Nana's mind. Looking at those injured, she couldn't argue that Sophie might as well genuinely cared about them and it's not like she directly opposed the proposal either. Basically, it's still too early to accuse her as the traitor.

Without showing any of that thought process, Nana gave apologetic bows to Sophie in a frantic manner. "No, no. Not at all!" Her voice was oddly enthusiastic. To an ordinary eye, you could say that she was caring about how the other girl would feel and tried to sound that way to ease the air up. But to those pessimistic enough, it would sound... too cheerful considering what happened until now. "Sometimes I really can't read the air, so it would be nice if you could forgive me about that!"

Can't read the air huh... it was an excuse she had prepared to accommodate her false claim of being a mind reader back on the island. While she didn't need to keep up with that lie here, using such excuse again would grant her the same benefit of being able to speak or act irrationally without being questioned much. Besides, it's just perfect for the problem at hand anyway.

Nana then heard Hamilton proposed another plan. A decent one, but if she was the perpetrator then all she need to do would be just forcing her victim or even someone else totally unrelated to send the message against their will, be it persuasion, tricking or threatening, and then she'd have the perfect alibi. Not to mention that this message app didn't seem to have a log or anything that would serve as a hard evidence. A little bit of deception over time could result in a serious inconsistency and the whole plan would easily crumble. Obviously, she kept that in her mind and picked her phone up.

srMa54F.jpg

"Um... Mr. Hamilton, right?" Even thought Nana had memorized all the information on the profile page by now, pretending to look it up gave a false sense of security to the other party, and to her it's always worth that few seconds wasted. "Your plan sounds awesome, but personally I think it's a bit inconvenience. I don't feel like texting someone every time I get out of my room for some snack." Giving out a concerned face and sheepishly laughter, the girl objected the newer plan with a pretty weak reasoning, but based on how a lot of them acted earlier she was certain she would have support...
