BOOM
Too late. With his concentration broken, the Cater clone disappeared. To make matters worse, the bear was back. So despite the bear being seemingly sentient, there were also multiple copies? Maybe there was a sort of magic at play.
"Now, you all gonna sit down and let me finish explaining, or do you want to needlessly go through another explosion! Don't even try leaving at this point-- I've locked the room until I'm done!"
He didn’t want to listen. He didn’t want to hear anymore the crazy bear had to say. He wanted to travel back through the mirror and return to his normal school life.
Claude passed Cater as he ran to the door. Sure enough, it was as the bear said.
Cater looked upon the room in horror. The scent of blood and smoke filled the air. Various cries, gasps and quiet sobs rang throughout the room from the participants. Claude was the first to speak once more.
"At least the bloodshed I was involved in wasn't meaningless, unlike this!! And you just want us to play along.... We're not just going to do that."
It’s not as if Cater hadn’t experience dangerous situations before. Danger is par for the course when you go to a magic school. But the despair and hopelessness he felt in the moment was unparalleled. There was no hope for total survival. There would be death. But then, he thought back to the words used to describe him. Mediator, it read. He had to live up to those expectations. He was used to putting on a brave face, he did it all the time. He had to be brave for the ones who couldn’t. He had to keep the peace as best he could.
Cater attempted to shake off his nerves. He watched Claude return to his seat and followed suit.
“Everyone please come back to your seats. We should hear what the bear has to say. There’s no harm in that.”
His eyes met with Marie’s and gave the biggest most genuine smile he could.
“And uhh Monokuma was it? Can I call you Mo-Ku? Listen Mo-Ku, I think we can both agree that a fair warning should have been administered first before we tried exploding people.”
