“I don’t know, Mr. Macho, maybe you were just plannin’ to call it a scratch and move on,” he off-handedly remarked, gently parting Erik’s curls to see the gash more closely. His hair was matted with blood, and though the cut wasn’t too deep, it definitely needed treatment. Billy stood back when Caspian came over to have a look at it, allowing him to tend to the wound. Even though Billy had managed to rescue his brother and keep him alive, he still felt useless - so many people were hurt and he was just standing there, completely unscathed besides an aggravated wound that he already had.
As soon as Caspian returned to stitching up Erik’s chest, Billy came to reclaim his spot beside his boyfriend’s pillow. He eagerly took up his cleaning duty at the doctor’s request, sliding a hand beneath Erik’s head so he could wipe away the blood. After Caspian confirmed that his chest wound would leave a permanent scar, Erik turned to look up at Billy with a teasing grin on his face, asking him if 'someone' would find it attractive. “Always tryna’ impress, you are,” he answered vaguely, though he couldn’t help but imagine a shirtless Erik, looking tough and rugged with a large scar on his chest. Feeling his cheeks redden slightly, Billy frowned at him. “Now, quit turnin’ your head round - I know I'm a looker, but right now I’m tryna’ mop up the bits of your brain that fell out."
Though it wasn't reflected in his voice, his touch was nothing but tender, rubbing the dried blood out of his hair with as much care and attention as he could. “It’s a pretty big gash, you know,” he teased, knowing that Erik couldn’t see it. “Maybe this one will scar, too, and you’ll end up with a permanent bald patch.” A grin formed on his face. “But don’t worry, I can always get you a toupée. Or a deerstalker - you could pull anyone with one o’ those.”
When Caspian was done stitching Erik up, Billy thanked him and waited until he was out of the room. There were still so many people that could walk in at any moment, and he figured he would be able to hear more warning if he kept the door ajar slightly, so as much as he wanted privacy with his boyfriend, he didn’t close it after Caspian left. Nor did he dare to kiss Erik again - once was risky enough, and it was pure luck that they had been caught by Bruce, who already knew about and accepted them. So, instead, he perched on the bed and placed a loving hand on his abdomen, just below the scar. “How d’ya’ feel now?” he asked quietly, concern in his eyes. “My turn to look after you again, already. We do take it in turns, don’t we?” Reaching for Erik’s hand, he put their palms together as if about to measure them against each other, and allowed their fingers to naturally interlink.
"Thanks for what you did for Spencer tonight," he said, with a soft smile. "I'll never forget it. I don't forget none of the things you do for me and my family...I can't even imagine what life would be like if you hadn't come to London." Restricted by the sling he was wearing, Billy leaned down to kiss the man's fingers. He was about to ask him what he would do if Gabriel Moretti asked him to return to New York, but decided he wasn't in the mood to hear the answer. After all, it wouldn't be Erik's choice. "I hope you'll always be 'ere, with me...I love you, Erik Snowden."
