I had a basic idea for a character, they would have been a Desert Ranger, one that had fought against Caesar’s Legion during the wars to conquer the 87 tribes. While the others were evicted from Arizona and fled west toward the lands that were controlled by the NCR and would eventually unify with the Rangers there, he chose not to flee at least not at the beginning. Determined to try and fight against the onslaught he attempted a lone guerrilla war against the forces of the Legion, somewhat similar to how Boone would attempt it in one of the endings for the Legion was victorious at Hoover dam. For him however, things didn’t last as long or as successful as it would for the first recon sniper, instead, he ended up leaving towards the area of the Rockies and Denver, having lost his opportunity to try and flee west. In the end he faked his death in an explosion that took several Frumentarii, abandoning a Sequoia that belonged to one of his fallen comrades make them believe that he was dead; that no Ranger would have abandoned their weapon. The defeat at the hands of the Legion as well as the fact that others ended up paying the price far steeper than himself for his guerrilla war against the forces of Caesar, has left him feeling defeated, yet all the same his convictions and his belief in what is right and what is wrong remain strong in his heart. Ever the believer in law and order, he would aim to try and stabilize things as much as he could, taking out any of those who would try and prey on the everyman. That said, while he holds fast to his beliefs, he has in a sense been humbled, he didn’t like the idea of going towards the NCR initially, having heard word about them, not liking their bureaucracy and expansionism, the way that they seem to prioritize those who already have plenty and their senators/political class. However, he is well aware that ideals alone won’t stop the Legion, he tried that already, and it did not end well, because of this, he is willing to compromise in his beliefs at least to the point where it comes to picking a lesser of two evils. If society has been established, if there is a working and functioning one flawed as it might be, he isn’t going to reject it for the sake of it not being the most ideal. Once he would’ve turned away from the NCR because of how they were structured, now however if given the chance he would have gone with the Ranger unification; similarly, even if things are not the most ideal in the society set up currently, if it functions, if it provides its own level of stability, he is happy to accept it and try to get it to improve.
