Fantasy ~ FableWood ~

"Nice to meet you properly Anya." Elena said softly, pale eyes shifting towards the blonde to examine her facial expression.

"I just turned twenty as well. Im trying to convince myself that what you said isnt true." She sighed and looked at the party with puffy eyes.

"I promise though. I cried because im more relieved than anything. You dont even know me so dont worry. Its funny though. You sound a bit like someone i knew."

Zelnite overheard the talk about the curse, and immediately became interested. "Hey, the name's Zelnite, nice too meet you" He said while approaching Leo and Rose. "So about this curse, any information about who put the curse on?" He takes a sip from his wine glass.

Quincy felt another blush creep over her face. Knowing that she was the cause of the sudden awkwardness and his discomfort was killing her. “Thanks." She said to his back as he walked away. Once he was a safe distance away, Quincy moved to the nearest window, pressing a hand to her lips and staring out at the whiteness. What now, idiot? She asked herself, moving the hand from her lips to the glass and tapping it lightly. Have some cake, she answered snarkily, turning from the window slowly and finding a seat at a table.

(I can't take it! Lol)

"Someone good, I hope," she said with a small smile, "You remind me of my younger brother, a little, so sorry if I have trouble with the 'don't worry' thing. But, I suppose as long it's relief..." She trailed off, searching the other girl- the other woman's face for more information. As she expected there was little to be found there. Elena really did remind her of her younger brother, and Anya wondered if she suffered from the same type of depression symptoms he always had, and when she would be able to see him again. "Well, I suppose there is no need to linger on whatever is on your mind if you don' t want to."

Alexander went to fetch cake wondering what exactly would do when he got back, maybe he should have a piece too? No, he hates sweets, that wouldnt be any good. As he got Quincy's cake, he noticed there were lemon bars, which smelled scrumptious so he grabbed two pieces for himself before returning to Quincy with his offering.

"She was the only person i deemed worthy to care about before i got here. She was good." Elena said. She was suddenly aware of how intimate the conversation had become, though a tired and drained Elena had no filter. Her shut her eyes once more, lazy as a cat, and wiped away the last wet spot on her cheek.she could feel the girls eyes on her, but she knew her face could hardly be read. Ward was the first to accurately do so.

"Im moving on. Today was the first day ive begun to do so. Something tells me you are still searching back though, for something you had before Fablewood."

She rubbed her cheek once more and played with her birthday gift, tenderly feeling the stem along the lip of a water filled glass she placed it in. With the sound of chattering and music and cake in her stomach, Elena curled up with her head on the table and fell asleep.

Her eyes were fixed on the people enjoying the party as they danced and laughed. It had all happened before, but this time she was afraid. Even this, sitting at a table thinking when she could've been dancing, was too familiar, and it terrified her. Quincy's thoughts were interrupted by Alexander's return with the offered cake. She took it from him politely, but her grin was full of excitement. “You just made my day." She said, taking a bite and savoring it with a soft hum. “I mean that. Best thing that's happened all day, right here." The kelpie said, pointing to the cake, but her eyes were resting on him.

(Bed time for me, goodnight guys!)

"Dang things'll kill you." Alta said, picking up the pack and placing it further away on a table. She puffed her pipe with a slight smirk. "You want 'em then heal up. Magic's only as good as your will te make it work." She then looked at Luness thoughtfully.

"You know, your mum showed a good bit of talent in healing magic, wonder if you have the touch as well?"

((@Lioness075 I think its high time you started writing with the other players again, don't you think?))

Ward had been enjoying the celebration, yet all the while keeping a watchful eye over Elena. He knew there wasn't much he could do about pain past except be as good a friend as he could to her now. It was something she most likely would have to work through herself. As she spoke with Anya he let them alone but never strayed too far.

When Elena fell asleep he came back to the table, smiling at Anya he scooped Elena up gently, cradling her with deceptive strength for his slender frame. He carried her to her bed and covered her in thick warms furs, then lit the fire in the hearth.

He wandered back to the bed and knelt beside it, watching her sleep for just a moment.

"Dream well Elena...I hope that wherever you go, I will be able to stay by your side."

He left the room after that, closing the door quietly behind him and stifling a yawn. The sun had fallen beyond the horizon and night crept upon them slowly. Ward went to his room and examined the cold bed and the unlit hearth. His eyes turned toward the window. Undoing the latch he let the glass swing ajar, climbing out and grabbing onto the roof. As he did this he changed back into the form of a gryphon and shut the window with a back foot. He padded slowly along the sloping tiles until he was above Elena's room and there, he curled about the warming chimney, thick feathers and fur the best protection against the night's bitter cold and slowly drifted off to sleep.

((I'll take this out if you mind @Bea Delaine, I just couldn't resist ^^))

After Leo had left to speak with the newest face in the party, Banba had taken a seat at the table, piling things into her mouth and chewing loudly. She paused, swallowing the last of her bite, and looked around.

"Here, try this." Someone set a cup in front of her, filled with an amber liquid, and she immediately grabbed it, tiling back her head to quickly down the drink. She set the cup down softly, eyes blinking quickly, nose twitching.

"That was... Theres no... It's..." She muttered, looking around, spaced.

"Ale. That hit you fast!" The man snickered, and Banba looked up at him, seeing no ill intent on his face. She stood up, pushing the chair back as she walked around it, wobbling on her feet slightly. For the shifter, everything was slowing down, becoming quiet. She sniffed, looking back at the man pleadingly with drooped eyelids. The man chuckled, looping his arm in hers.

"Alright, girlie. Lets go." He lead her, doing his best to right her when she stumbled, until he reached the door of her borrowed room. Pushing it open, he watched Banba movie into it, staring around as if she never saw it before.

"Sleep it off, shifter. You'll feel better in the morning." He said, shutting the door and returning to the party. Banba listened to his footsteps, and when he was gone, opened the door, curling up in the frame. Gripping her tail like a child would a toy, she dozed off. Again, her body went through tiny changes, noticeable only to those who looked hard enough.

After a few moments of thought, Leo brought himself back to the party. He looked around, noticing that a few group members had trailed off to their rooms and gone to bed. "I will continue to ponder on you amulet Rose, I hope you have a pleasant evening." He bowed to her and turned and headed for the stairs. He reached the hall way and was going for his room when he stopped and noticed Banba curled up in the door way of her room. He breathed a little chuckle and unclipped his fur that he had received to keep himself warm from his shoulders. He draped the large fur over the small figure of the girl, noticing the small changes in her skin as she slept. Not wanting to disturb her, he made it to his room quietly and shut the door. Unfastening his shoulder armor and placing it on the floor gingerly, he assumed his nightly position on the floor as well and closed his one good eye.

@Jecklyn

Rose looked to a man who had just walked over asking about who put the curse on her. She stood up dusted off and said " Mordred cast the eviel spell ". She tucked her hair behind her ears and glanced around at people leaving, she was still hungry and didn't know where she would be sleeping for the night...but she could find a place.

@PhantomNightmare

Luness huffed at Alta when she moved Luness' knapsack and smokes even further away from her. Frowning at what Alta said about the smokes, Luness said, "Oh come on, I heal fast enough that smoking probably won't even do that much damage to me."

Hearing that the magic would only work as well as Luness wanted it to, Luness replied, "Well, it ain't workin' fast enough."

Upon hearing that she might have the ability to use healing magic, Luness was surprised. Was Alta being serious? Luness cocked her head and was about to ask Alta about it when Nyr appeared in the doorway and told Alta to go to the party while Nyr would stay with Luness. Growling at this, Luness nearly facepalmed. Great, birdbrain was back.

Nyr waited for Alta to leave them alone at least in the room as she sat down beside the Werecat. Silence filled the room as she did not speak with her for a while. Finally she took a deep breath and sighed.

" I owe you an apology. " she said finally.

Anya had nodded, listening to Elena she thought of everything she had left behind: Her family, her friends, the promise of a good job. She would miss flying dreadfully if she never returned, and she very much doubted her ability to make something she could fly on her own with only the materials here in Fablewood. Besides that, she wondered how she would be remembered there: would people think that the mountains had claimed her life when she left in search of food? Well, she supposed none of that really mattered.

"Moving on is a good place to start," She said to Elena, before she fell asleep. Anya touched her shoulder lightly, wishing her goodnight just before Ward took the birthday girl away.

"Take care of her." Anya gave Ward a friendly smile, and before he left completely. It was an obvious command, one she knew the griffon didn't need, but she wanted to voice it anyway. She leaned back into the seat running a hand through her shortened hair and wondered if that cave had taken away her hair as some sort of symbolic punishment, for not immediately wanting to free the imp, or for doing it reluctantly. She wasn't sure, but she wasn't happy about it.

With Quincy's words Alexander felt his own cheeks warm. He wasn't certain he liked this human form, he never worried about his cheeks turning colors when he was a dragon, protected from all by his scales.

"I, uh, I'm glad that you enjoy the cake so much." He said, stumbling over his words. He hadn't done that since he learned to speak aloud. What was wrong with him? He watched her, then turned his attention to his treat, unsure of how to proceed.

"The lemon bars are fantastic, too, though just lemons would be better, I think." He tuned his attention to her once again, "What do kelpies usually eat? When not following around special humans, I mean."

Luness narrowed her eyes at Alta for leaving her alone with the birdbrain, but she remained silent until Nyr spoke up.

Hearing that she was offering an apology, Luness cocked her head at Nyr and asked her, "For what?" Granted, Nyr annoyed Luness a ton, but she hadn't exactly done anything harmful towards Luness. At least, as far as Luness was concerned.

The usual smile vanished from her expression. She did not dare to look in Luness' eyes.

" I was afraid. " she said silently " Of being lonely again. Of being left alone again. "

She then looked at her with sadness.

" I smothered you with what I thought was care, love. Only now do I realize that what I thought to be comforting... might have hurt more than used. I disregarded how the recent events left a great mark on you - both on your body and on your soul. "

She bowed her head in shame.

" I was careless. "

Quincy hid a smile at his stuttering with a bite of cake, unable to deny her satsifaction at the effect she had on him. But she didnt comment on it, instead she answered his question seriously. “My horse form is carnivorous. I substituted small animals like squirrels and rabbits, or sometimes deer. I wouldve eaten fish, but it was weird to eat those youre living with." She said. “In this form I can eat most anything, luckily." She said, realizing how grateful she was for her ability to diversify her diet. “What about dragons? You obviously dont care for sweets." She said, wrinkling her nose in feigned distaste at his lemon bars.

Alexander's smile widened, more comfortably, and he almost laughed at her expression. "I don't have a taste for sweets, the first time I tried them was as a human, honestly. I am much more of a meat person- I hunt anything with enough meat on its bones, elk, bears, pigs, sometimes. Unicorns are a delicacy, but I've learned recently that they have enough sentience to make me feel bad for having hunted them in the past." He said, a bit of an odd look on his face. Alexander wondered if she thought of other horse-like creatures as similar. He had no problem with others feeding on lizards or other reptiles, but perhaps it was because he knew very few things which preyed on dragons. Hopefully he didn't make her uncomfortable, he didn't care for seafood and would never eat another sentient being.

Luness was taken aback by what Nyr said to her. She hadn't expected anyone to care so mcuh for her other than Alta, but she had accepted Alta's care because of how much she reminded Luness of the mother she didn't have. Yet, with Nyr, Luness was just constantly annoyed by her overbearing kindness.

Hearing that Nyr was afraid of being alone, Luness didn't really have any advice to offer. Even though she was accepting of Alta's company, Luness still preferred her solitude.

Sighing, Luness said, "Apology accepted. Honestly, I'm used to being alone and rather enjoy it so I can't help you there."

Hearing the mention of recent events, Luness' expression hardened and she said stiffly, "I'd rather not bring up recent events."

" I think I did not speak plainly enough and was confusing. " she said, smiling at Luness now. She patted her furry head comfortingly.

" You know I also hate crowds and places with lots and lots of people. But there is a big difference between being alone and being forsaken. "

She paused for a moment for she knew Luness understood what she meant.

" From my outburst you heard a small part of my past... I was alone and I liked it. I liked it because I did not know better. When I met Ward and the others however... something had changed within me. "

Luness frowned when Nyr pet her and instantly moved her good arm to push Nyr's hand away from her.

Hearing Nyr's explanation, Luness thought for a moment and then said, "I've been both forsaken and alone. I still enjoy my solitude though." Pausing, Luness added, "I get irritated easily with people so I don't typically get along wih anyone." Narrowing her eyes, Luness added, "Especially anyone who pets me like I'm just some pet."

Luness was quiet now, wondering if being with the group had changed her at all.

Well, Luness certainly hadn't spoken this much since before her mother died.

Nyr's heart sank when she heard that, but deep down she understood the mighty werecat.

" I... am sorry. " she said and stood up, her wings drawn in just as when she was sad. She headed to the door and from there she looked back.

" I will let you rest for now, I have pestered you long enough. " she murmured, more to herself than to Luness " Be well. "

As she stepped out in the freezing weather she saw dusk approaching rapidly. She looked at the castle where the others had fun... probably they were already celebrating, thus she did not want to disturb them. Yet she could go back no longer either. She spread her wings and flew high to the castle. She found a comfortable place high in the tower, and she closed he eyes as a single drop of tear fell to the floor. She was so foolish...

Luness felt a pain in her heart when Nyr left in such a manner. Why did she push away everyone who wanted to help her like that?

Growling in frustration, Luness took the cup of tea near her and angirly threw it at a wall, watching as it shattered and tea splattered on the wall and floor below.

Not wanting to be seen like this, Luness pushed the furs and blankets covering her aside and then slowly stood up from the bed, using her good arm to brace herself. Wincing at an ache in her hindquarters from the bite wound, Luness was at least relieved to be able to stand up. Besides aching in her wounds, the only one that seemed to still be an issue was her arm, which throbbed a bit.

Finding the scarf that Alta had given her yesterday, Luness quickly made a makeshift sling for her arm. Slinging her knapsack over her good shoulder, Luness left her guitar behind as she exited Alta's place and then began walking forlornly through the town. Perhaps it was time she got to know her pack better. After all, it would be wise to know what everyone was skilled at for any future battles.
