Fantasy ~ FableWood ~

Nyr folded her arms as she smiled at Elena and congratulated her for the birthday. She hugged her then wished her the best before walking out of the great room. She still did not like big parties and commotions so she left those who actually like such things.

She walked in the snowy town before she reached her destination - Alta's hut.

" Excuse me for my intrusion. We are back. You should go and celebrate Alta, I will look after Luness for a bit. "

Rose got up when everyone yelled surprise and looked around happily at all the smiling faces " Sorry I took so long to get here " she said to Elena

Banba was walking by the great hall, the children having been called away by their parents. Suddenly, she heard a great shout, and she took off running, climbing through the window only to see a celebration, with Leo hugging Ward and Elena. Giggling as he put them down again, Banba leapt to the floor, landing as her white furred form and scurried up to Leo's shoulder.

"Noise is all good and well but the quiet should be missing us." She said, cryptically between giggles.

Anya too sprung out with a "surprise", but she wad

Alexander and Ethan had missed the memo about the surprise party, so Alexander came in several minutes after Elena, visibly confused by the spectacle at hand

The return to normal was a great relief to Quincy and with their quest done, she climbed onto Ward and enjoyed the ride to Snow Haven. It was almost as nice as a flight on Alexander's back. She had hid, but missed the memo on shouting surprise. Laughing in embarrassment, she weaved over to Elena. “Happy birthday!" She said, giving her a big smile. “I believe we also wish you many more." She said, giving her a quick hug before slipping away. “Alexander!" She called, wandering over to him and Ethan. “Hey, you two. Welcome to Elena's birthday party." She said softly, a tiny smile on her face.

Leo could feel the slight tugging of the furry white creature crawling up his back and knew instantly who it was. When the little white fur ball reached his shoulder, he turned and smiled. Scratching her little head "Ah Banba, I am glad to hear you back to your usual twisted tongue riddles. I was wondering where you were hiding today." He watched the others enjoy the jubilation, especially Elena. He was glad to see that he could have been part of bringing such joy to her on such a special day.

"Quincy," Alex said, smiling a touch and nodding to her before she spoke again. "Birthday party? She was not born to day, she's too old and she was around before..." He replied with, his brows drawn together in confusion, and his the right side of his mouth drawn up higher than the other, as though he clearly thought the notion of this being Elena's birthday was amusing, and ridiculous.

Elena was overwhelmed. She hugged back leo and Leia and everyone until the faces all blurred together along with the voices. Finally getting over her bout of crying, she cut the cake and walked around the room, handing plates to people.

"Rose! I thought we lost you." She said with too much surprise and cheer to hold a thought.

She grinned knowingly at Quincy and Alexanders interaction. Seeing Banba as a furry white creature, she chuckled and said to the girl.

"I appreciate your being here Banba, and if you wish to enjoy the quiet, you are free to. I will not mind." She answered the girls cryptic speech.

Taking little nibbles on her cake, she sat down and played with the flower. Unsure if it would wilt or not, she drew it in her book. If she ever lost it or if it dies, she would summon it from the hard cover. Her mind returned to the bitter sweet night.

She was in her apartment, shared with one other girl. The lady worked nights so they never came to pass eachother. Elena was sitting through her eighteenth birthday that night, enjoying an overly sweet cafetaria quality cupcake a workmate bought for her which she passively accepted. The got a text.

"Happy Birthday. Im celebrating the last day of my happiness. Giving you my final present. The rivers nice tonight.

-your mom, my last number was blocked <3"

Elena didnt realize how fast she ran, how little she even took in from the event. She drove half an hour and it felt like two minutes, coming to the bridge over the salt water river. The first time her mother ever tried anything was here. She screamed out her name, finding nothing but the familiar scent of alchohol and stale cigarettes. She believed for a moment that it was a false alarm until she saw a piece of jacket with a god awful print caught on railing.

Elena didnt realize she was crying again. But she wasnt greiving like the year before. She felt as though she could finally move on. She didnt even mind having broken down in tears because she was there. In fablewood. With people she liked.

(Feel the feels.)

Rose looked over to Alexander and tilted her head. She laid down and looked around the room. " I see so many new faces " Rose blinked and looked down to Elena who was crying. She laid her head down next to her so she could see Elena more clearly.

The kelpie gave a shrug as she plucked a drink off a passing tray and sipped it. It was a delicious, fruity punch. “Its a human celebration to mark their age. I suppose its annual." She said, laughing a little. To magical creatures with tremendous lifespans, it seemed quite silly. “They have shorter life spans, so each year is an accomplishment I suppose." She stepped closer to Alexander, leaning in to whisper in his ear. “We picked up a dragoness on the way. In case you would like to meet her." Her breath stirred his hair slighty as she spoke and looked other at Rose beside Elena. The kelpie had no idea what she was doing, telling him, when she didnt fancy them meeting at all. She had no idea why she got so close to him, just to tell him that simple thing. Get yourself together. Stop acting without thought. She reprimanded herself, leaning away with a glance at his face.

Alexander also grabbed a drink, and swirled it in the cup, idley listening to Quincy's explanation. He then nodded, and said, "I suppose that can be an accomplishment for anyone, if their life is boring- or trying enough." After he finished he took a sip of the punch, then grimaced when he tasted it. It was so sweet. That grimace was immediately wiped away, however, by the mention of another dragon, and he actually looked at the room for the first time. Her close whisper made his cheeks flush a touch, though he had no clue why. "So it would seem you have." He noted, setting the drink back down. "She looks young, I wonder if she's had any contact with others? I haven't seen another dragon- well, one that wasn't being slain by the prince- since I was old enough to catch my own food." He was intrigued by this, and curious, but not necessarily with rose herself. "Perhaps I will meet her when she is not preoccupied with a friend, besides, for now I think I'll keep company I know I enjoy." At the last sentence, Alexander turned to the kelpie and smiled.

Anya, seeing the sadness enveloping Elena walked over and sat beside her, not touching her or saying a word, just being near in case she needed something. She did not think they were close friends, and even if they were she had little comfort to offer, as she knew nothing about the girls situation.

Quincy watched his reaction as casually as she could. His initial interest made her subconsciously uncomfortable, but as he continued, an odd feeling of satisfaction settled in her gut. Alexander's smile was instantly contagious. Her face lit up again, and her heart thumped heavily. Almost instantly, the feeling triggered memories of another, of laughing and dancing, of long ago promises and plans for the future. Quincy's smile faultered as she was hit with a realization: she was falling for the dragon. The kelpie tried to cover it up with taking a sip of her drink, but there was an obvious blush creeping across her cheeks. Her mind was in a panic trying to backpedal from the thought, but it seemed irreversible. “Im glad to hear my company is as pleasing as I think it is." She joked, struggling to force her thoughts away.

Banba giggled, jumping off Leo's shoulder and landing as a child sized version of herself, looking up at the others in curiosity.

"It is not I who dislikes the noise." She explained, stretching, tail working itself in circles. "It is the noise who dislikes me. And I have had almost minutes to get used to it."

Rose had now shifted back into her human form and the necklace resumed its pace around her neck. The gold shined in the light of the room she looked down at it and frowned sadly remembering what it has done to her. She walked to the edge of the room in a lonely corner and messed with the dangling blue gem on the necklace, she sighed...

Leo smiled at Banba, seeing her back to normal made her both happy and sad. I watched the room tentatively, then suddenly spotted the dragon girl sitting in a corner. He patted Banba on the head and headed in her direction. On the way over a waiter with a tray of drinks passed by and he grabbed two drinks. He approached her and saw the girl playing with her necklace. He reached out to hand her one of the drinks, "Hello, Rose right? We did not get much time for proper introductions back in the cave." He chuckled to himself. "I also did not get to properly thank you for the lift over the chasm back there. So thank you very much."

Rose looked up and accepted the drink gratefully " your welcome " . She took a sip of her drink. Looking down I to the cup she blinked at the reflection. 'I'm not even a true dragon with this stupid enchantment' she thought to herself

He watched the young drake stare into her drink, a aura of sadness seemed to be emanating from her. He wasn;t one to normally push peoples boundaries, but as with the rest of the group, he wanted to do everything he could to help his new friends. "I hope im not being to forward Rose, but you seem upset. Now I'm not familiar with birthdays like the humans are, but i believe they are supposed to joyous. Is there something on your mind?" He took a slow sip of the sweet liquor in his cup.

Alexander was not certain what to make of the color spreading to Quincy's cheeks. He had never really noticed details in another like he noticed them in the kelpie. Alex took a few minutes longer than he really should have to respond, and when he did, he said "Well, yes... uh, would you like some cake?" He offered not so he could get away from her, but because he couldn't think of anything else to say.

Rose looked up and tugged on the necklace " I hate this stupid curse that sorcerer cast apon the only thing I have left from my parents " she gave up on tugging and set her cup down

Leo took a look at his drink and then to the amulet around the girls neck. "Ah i see. That is a terrible circumstance your heirloom is in. What kind of curse is it?" He got a tad closer, eye glued to the amulet.

" A dark and ancient curse that locks my true powers away unless acted apon by a sight of danger, and its only for a limited time. The only way to break it is an act of true love " Rose watched everyone mingle

Elena wiped her eyes, tears leaking a bit but she got herself emotionally under control. The outburst was expected. It happened the year before. But last time she was able to deter it until there was nobody around. She looked up, taking a bite of the cake and hiccuping quietly.

"Thank you for being here.. dont worry. Im not dying so please dont care." She said honestly enough. She and Anya were probably the least familiar with eachother amongst the group. Still Elena would save the girl from anything at any cost as she would with anyone she cared for, and Anya was showing she cared as well.

She set her head on the table, cushioned by her hand and closed her eyes for a moment, tired from an emotional day. She was tempted to go to bed but the event was too happy and festive to want to leave. Eyes still closed, she asked.

"How old are you Anya? How did you celebrate your birthdays?"

Leo stood up straight. He drained the last of his cup and eyed the amulet once more. "That is indeed an ancient spell. Only those of the ancient times deal with true love magic and curses such as that. One of the most powerful magics of all." He stroked his mane on his chin a bit as he pondered the curse and the amulet. such a powerful trinket, only a few sorcerer's have the power to cast true love curses. "I was once privileged enough to know a witch that knew some true love magic. I wonder if she might know anything about the exact curse used." Continuing to stroke his mane, his thoughts began to wonder.

Quincy felt herself hanging in his silence, dreadfully aware he had noticed the red painted across her cheekbones. She wanted to turn and run out of the room, all the way to whatever sea was closest. He spoke finally, relieving her pain slightly. “Id love some!" She said brightly, reaching back and pulling her hair down. It dropped to her shoulders softly before she gathered it again and tied it into a neat bun. “Sweets are starting to be one of my favorite things." She said with an easy smile.

"I'm 20, and old enough to know dying is usually much less worrisome than living" Anya said. She didn't know exactly how to proceed, but she could tell that Elena was not in a good place, "And I haven't actually celebrated my birthday since I was... since my sweet sixteen." She said. "How old are you, now?" She answered the second question, wondering what tragedy had occurred in her past to make her birthday so painful.

"Well, I shall go fetch some for you then," he said, "Or... something." The end of this sentence was lame, and even he realized that. He was comfortable with her, but for some reason the blush had... flustered him. He watched her fix her hair, then looked away, moving to go get cake for her.

(This relationship is so painfully awkward and perfect, it seems:)
