Fantasy ~ FableWood ~

The winds licked at Leo's face as they sped over the icy tundra. The snow seemed to just glide over the sleighs and not accumulate in them, a feat of the queens magic he assumed. With all of the activities that had happened since arriving in the frozen wastelands, Leos mind began to wander from the exhaustion. He closed his good eye, then reopened it, beginning his meditation for the trip. He sat in a white space as he always did, no feeling of the cold or the speed that he traveled. Lilly slowly began to materialize before him, a saddened look on her face. "Leo, the growing darkness. I have seen your memories, and you have seen this kind of evil before. You can not hide from it. You will have to face it...." Leo did not open his mind to speak. Instead he shut it suddenly to his spirit, the green in his eye dissipating immediately. As he looked around in a bit of a panic, he noticed that they had returned to the town. With a heavy sigh, he looked to the others exiting the sleighs and made to follow.

Ashley became worried for her injured companions, most notably Luness, who seemed to have gotten the worst end of the stick in the latest battle. As she exited the sleigh, she was happy t0 be in another safe area. First person she ended up looking at was Zelnite. It'd be nice to have someone to talk to. But she didn't want to be giving him an Info dump or anything. So she was really nervous about the thought of approaching him.

Elena was taken aback by what Ward said. Sure she was putting herself down in some way. Though it was surprising someone was able to discern her facial expression so quickly. She was a bit self loathing at the moment. Everyone else didn't seem much happier though. Then the next thing he said, she was thoroughly confused but flattered.

"I'm fine.. I'm not hurt, so the rest isn't so important. Be more worried for yourself and the others, alright?"

She said, wondering still what he meant. How did Ward see Elena. When they arrived, Elena assisted him to the healers home and said a polite see you later. She took back her coat and went back out into the weather. Her fear was to be a weak and useless person again. Maybe it was the mood of the group or the date. She was the same kid who came into Fablewood and as a tomorrow 20 year old, nothing would change.

She practiced moving ice with her book, outside of the gates where she only saw white land and no life.

Banba left the carriage as soon as possible, picking a direction and running. They were all worried for her, they were all too nice. She obviously wasn't thinking clearly, but she couldn't tell one thought from another. She slowed to a walk, looking around her curiously. Snow was a strange substance, being a frozen liquid. She paused where she stood, kneeling down to examine the snow, feeling it freeze her scales. Shaking her head, Banba let herself fall back, landing in a sitting position as she leaned forward again, drawing designs in the snow, her tail flattening it out behind her as she moved it back and forth. Shaking her head again, she rubbed her temples. Thoughts were becoming more and more muddled. It wasn't pleasant, as no one would expect going mad would be.

Luness was still unconscious when she was moved to the healer's place, but she occassionally would mewl while asleep. Other than that, she was silent. Her injuries were few, but each one was deep or damaged enough that they would surely scar. She had four strikes along her muzzle from being clawed at, a bite wound on her left hindquarters, her left ear had been greatly torn so that only a stump was left, she'd broken two ribs, and her previously injured right forearm had been torn open again along with it being fractured in two places.

Zelnite got off the sleigh, wondering if his allies would be alright, especially Luness, not only was she hurt physically but she was also hurt enotionaly . But a question was still stuck in his head, 'Who was that wizard' he thought to himself. He began playing with his hair out of confusion and saw Ashley look at him. "Hey, need anything?" He said, smiling while waving at her direction.

Leos, distracted by his inner thoughts almost missed the scaly shadow shoot from the carriage. He stepped into the snow and watched Banba, debating if he should give chase. He watched a few nor moments and then walked slowly in her direction. Seeing her on the ground he sighed. He turned around to leave but instead gel backwards. Landing with a giant poof in the snow, he began to wave his arms and legs creating a snow lion.

Ward tried to lift his voice, ask her not to go, but she had left before he could. He lay back down with a sad expression.

"I can't worry more about anyone else..." He whispered softly, placing a hand over his forehead.

Alta had fussed over Luness a lot since she was brought in. The healer treated the deep gashes, staunched bleeding, re-mended bone and done what she could with the ruin of Luness' ear.

"No amount of potions is going to fix the pain she'll be in when she wakes up." The healer growled. "What in all FableWood did this to her?" Ward could not give her an answer and before long it was his turn to receive Alta's gruff care.

She tutted as she removed the blood-soaked coat and shirt. The powder had done its work and stopped the blood flow, but the wound was still there.

"You've broken a rib, but there aren't any holes in the important bits." Ward was grateful for that. "But this wound looks wrong on a human."

"That might be because I got it in gryphon form." In a flash Alta wrapped him on the skull. "You four-legged feather duster! Any were who's still suckling knows not to shift with a wound that deep!"

"Ouch! I thought you were supposed to help me get better, not cause more pain." He said, rubbing his head with an eye closed. After the ache subsided however he was grateful for the healer's attention. It helped him take his mind off his feelings, which now sat in a tangled mess in his heart. The worst part was he couldn't make sense of them at all. They was a mix of emotions, a large part was worry for Elena, but there was also an uncomfortable tugging, which only seemed to subside when he was near her.

Alta set to work and in a little while the wound was cleaned and stitched and enchanted, leaving the gryphon to rest peacefully under the warm covers.

Leia bowed again as the queen returned to her sleigh and bit her farewell.

"The reindeer will take you back to the portal pool...it is best you not linger here more than you have to." She warned.

Leia felt uneasy but promised she would relay the message to the others when they recovered.

With that the queen was gone, the wind picking up as she left and blowing the young girl's hair in her face.

"I can't explain it...but I have a bad feeling."

Banba shot up when she heard the poof of snow behind her, only to spot Leo waving his arms and legs around. Slowly, a smile broke over her face, giggles raising into a full blown laugh as she joined beside him, a little less neat snow lizards than his snow lions. She sat up, the grin slowly disappearing again. She looked over at Leo, forcing a small smile onto her

"I want to apologize." She said, quietly. "And before you protest, I need to apologize. Not only for the whole shard in the heart thing, and causing you worry, but for all you've been so kind to put up with. I am aware of the things I say, even in my maddened state, and even if I don't have control over it. And it is not fair to you to have to put up with me, because no one can put up with me as long as you have, and I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't want to associate with me after the stunt I pulled. And I'm grateful, so very grateful for the kindness you have shown me, despite my insane rantings. And..." She trailed off, looking around once more before forcing herself to meet Leo's gaze, lips pressed firmly together. "And I'm glad that I could call you a friend. I don't have many of those."

Quincy, with no where to go once the sleighs reached the town, ended up in the great hall. There was a fire crackling in the fire place and despite her dislike of its dryness, she sat near it. Her face was blank as she stared at it, drinking a warm liquid that had been brought to her. She didnt realize until it was halfway gone and her unpleasant feelings disappeared that it was some kind of alcohol. Her brow furrowed for briefest moment before she continued, nursing the drink and her troubled memories.

Elena trained outside. The cold wind made her feel hollow. Like an outline as cold inside as out. Her heart tugged at leaving Ward, but being in the mood she was in, it wouldn't do him any favors. Elena moved a hand and lifted the snow to snake upward like a puppet. It condensed to ice and formed into a bird. The creature flew shakily.

She realized it after looking at her book in the castle earlier. Having dated the pages with dates from when she was on earth, she realize it was a day before she turns twenty. It ruined her mood fast. Being of no use to the team didn't help. It was prophetic really. Her mother chose that day to die for a reason, successful or not.

The bird broke apart in the sky, it's body too shaky a form to last. She shivered and looked back at the town.

After deciding practice wasn't doing her any good, she walked back to the town and to the place she got food before, so she might relax. Memories wracked around in her brain and she figured company might make them subside.

When Zelnite waved at her and asked if she needed anything, she looked flustered. "Um, yeah, actually. Now that the party is in relative safety again, now would probably be a good time to rest." She smiled nervously. Wanting to rest was one thing, but to ask someone to keep her company was probably going to be a different story.

Quincy looked up at the sound of some one entering. It was Elena, looking as cold and troubled as the kelpie felt. “Elena. Come, have a drink. The fire is good." She called softly, raising her mug in greeting. “If you don't mind my company, that is." She added with a soft chuckle, her eyes dancing with a note of mischief. The hearty, spiced drink had made her feel a little more lively, although no more happy. Cynicism and regrets were fueling her pretended good cheer; she wouldnt mind someone to sit with.

Elena put on a passive smile when she saw Quincy was also in the room. She was looking for company and the Kelpy was friendly. Shaking her head to the drink, she came over to take a seat by the other.

"It's nice and warm in here.. And I'm glad to see you. So many people are injured. How are you doing?" She asked in a happy tone that didn't fit her mood.

Dusk was creeping over the sky and Luness was still not awake. Nyr, like a stalwart guardian sat beside her and still waited for her return among them. However she quickly realized that she would not do so very soon - thus she decided to sleep in this spot, close to the cat.

" Worry not, I will watch over you. " she told Luness, knowing that she could not hear her she added: " You are a warmhearted, kind individual, not the ferocious vagabond you want to show to us. I am happy to be in your company. "

With that she crouched down and covered her body with her wings. Soon enough she drifted into the realm of dreams.

"Should I acompany you to your room?" Zelnite said while scratching the back of his head. Taking an apple with him before anything else. He grabbed his sword, his mind still filled with questions that bothered him. But he agreed with the idea of resting. He didn't have anything else to do or have anything else planned, he might as well give her some company.

Leo's smiled got wider and wider as he listened to Banba. He continued to lie in the snow, watching small flakes float to the earth. The sky broke through the clouds revealing the most beautiful azure sky he had seen in a while. "Banba..." His deep voice calm and collected, continuing his stare "we, will always be friends. There to support each other and help one another in our times of need. As a guardian and as a friend I will protect you and everyone else who shares our goal." He rolled his snow matted main to the side, fixing his good eye on her. " plus, your riddles are what make you, you. And I enjoy them." He returned his gaze to the sky, his smile still fixed on his face.

Quincy sipped at her drink as Elena sat down, looking at her closely. “It feels good to be victorious." She said neutrally, then let her friendly smile drop. “But I feel sluggish, a side effect of being bound. And I am losing hope for saving my home, my salt pool in the Elf wood. Even if the darkness leaves, the fish and nymphs will not be there. And I am stuck in memories that are not the happiest." She said candidly, watching her for a reaction. “What about you? Something is troubling you?"

"That's right!" Leia flopped down in the snow beside Leo and Banba. At home she had felt so out-of-place. Like she never really belonged, but here, smiling at the lizard girl and the giant leonine man she felt like a puzzle piece that had just been set into a picture.

"No matter what Ban, we'll be friends."

The air spirit swooped in and kicked up a whirlwind of snow. Leia shut her eyes as the spray hit her.

"Oh yeah, almost forgot about you. Say, do you have a name at all?" The spirit cooed and turned about, but that was all the response she got.

She looked at the other two for help. "I can't keep calling him 'air spirit'," she said matter-of-factly.

Elena felt off about Quincy's victorious comment. It seemed more like a dry fact than how the other felt. Giving a half hearted nod. The distance between them seemed great for a moment, then Quincy continued. Elena's smile dropped and brows creased in recognition of her feelings.

"I'm sorry.. I didn't realize."

She said more to her feet. When it was her own turn, she chewed her bottom lip. It was hard to say out loud for some reason.

"I.. I'm happy to be here really, but I'm scared that this ending would mean me going back to my old home. My birthdays tomorrow. I re-no um.. I just have some bad memories of that day." Her fake smile seemed pained and off, not yet willing to admit to everything.

"I appreciate what you've done and I hope talking makes you feel better.. But I'm fine."

Leo smiled as the spray of snow covered his face. Blinking, he looked up at the wind spirit and Leia who had joined them. "When it comes to spirits, they dont normally go by names. But once you have bonded with them, they will take on more personal characteristics. When the forest spirit joined with me, i spent some time getting to know her. She eventually pick her own name. I'm not sure how the wind spirits do it, but it may be very similar." Leo had never actually met another spirit other than Lilly, so the wind spirit was a great honor to be amongst. Leo raised himself out of the snow and sat on his knees. He placed his hands together and bowed to the spirit.

Leia sat back in the snow and thought. The spirit bowed back to Leo and went to curl up between them.

The snow glittered in the evening sun, warm golds and yellows dancing across the frozen surface of the lake.

As the sun began to set it suddenly got much colder.

"Euck, magic cloak or no I think I'm ready to go inside." She got up and dusted the snow off her cloak.

"I'll see you in the great hall." She smiled and hurried off, blowing into her hands to warm them in the growing chill.

Ward had dosed off, but was awoken by the sound of a dropped cup. He opened his eyes slowly and saw that Alta had begun packing things away.

"Are you planning on going somewhere?" He asked politely.

"Mmm." Was all the healer replied. "How are you feeling?"

Ward sat up experimentally. "Better, actually." Alta grunted her approval. "Stay there for now. At least until the pain killer wears off, then we'll see how well you've actually healed."

Ward sat back and sighed, feeling a bit restless. He did not like being confined. Looking out the window he felt the familiar yearning for wind through his feathers and the thrill of flight. For now however, he would have to be content with his imagination.

((We have a bored Ward :P ))

Elena became spooked after saying what she did. It wasn't a huge confession. She got up slowly and smiled politely to fill in the distance between the two again. She wanted company.. Maybe she could just talk to a sleeping ward. He wouldn't have to listen. Just be there.

"Im going to check on Ward.. Make sure he is doing okay. Thank you for the company."

She left to find the healers home. Stepping inside, keeping her footfalls light and silent, she came to where Ward was staying to see him awake and with Alta.

"H...hey. Just here or see you."

Being within close proximity to him was easing. That's why she was there.

(Bored bea to the rescue)

((Aww :3))

Ward's face lit up when Elena came through the door. He was sitting propped against a heap of pillows, his legs under a thick pile of furs, his upper body bare with a clean dressing on the wound in his side. His frame was slender but well-muscled and the colour had returned to his fair skin. His hair fell in a scruffy mass about his happy expression.

"You came to check on me?" All of a sudden his lonely thoughts vanished.

He rubbed the edge of a pelt idly with one hand, inspecting the fur intently. "You seemed a little upset, before. I'm sorry if it was anything I said." He looked up at her, his gold eyes reflecting gratefulness for the visit.

Alta was bustling about in her storeroom and paying them little attention.

((I should call it a night soon, this week was crazy IRL and I really need the weekend xD ))

Leo closed his good eye as Leia headed off to the castle. She was right, the cold was getting worst and it was time they headed in. He stood to his feet and stretched, trying to shake the cold from his fur. He took a few steps forward and stopped, the message from Lilly still weighting heavily on his mind. "Banba, one last thing before we head inside with the others." He lifted his chin and took in a deep breath. "You were very brave today. Taking that ice shard for the group. There are a lot of people who wouldn't be as brave as you.Thank you, for everyone." He began his trip back to the castle to grab some food and rest, but not before waving his hand in the air towards the castle, "Now come on, or else i shall eat all the sticky buns before you get any."
