Fantasy ~ FableWood ~

Elena woke up with a start. She sat up fast, noticing the sped up cabin and the shouting. Looking outside she saw large dark figures. Wolves. Wait no, Ward was saying something about werewolves. Not to hurt them. And joy?

Disoriented and confused, it took a moment for her to realize what was going on. She stuck half her body out of the cabin and watched the wolves race towards them. She was thankful to have practiced her vine technique, because it seemed like the best solution to use without hurting them. She pulled her book out and opened and reread the part she wrote about the flowery vines. Scribbling away a part, she made them evergreen roots so they wouldn't immediately shrivel, then she used her ability. It was the biggest thing she ever had to create so she braced herself and shouted.

"Stay upward and away from them!!"

It wouldn't hurt the wolves but she didn't want to knock a comrade out of the sky.

Powerful and bark covered greenery sprang and spiraled from the ground and dipped over the heads of the wolves, cutting a large amount off from the group. She managed to avoid hitting Joy and Leo. Panting heavily, she leaned back into the cabin and tried to gather herself without letting the wall she made disappear.

Quincy steadied herself on the dragon's back as she nocked arrow. While others aided Joy and Luness, she shot at the wolves still trying to attack the sleighs. It took a few shots to gauge how flying affected her aim, but Elena's wall bought her that time. The wolves that stayed on the sleigh soon found themselves wounded by arrows from above, hitting haunches or legs. She didnt want to kill them, but she did need to stop them.

"Werewolves? Seriously?" Zelnite said as he was about to attack one of them, then he heard Ward saying "Try not to hurt them". "Wow, this will be hard" Using the blunt side of his blade and not trying to hurt anyone, great. He did his best pushing the werewolves away from the sleigh. "Is anyone taking the pack leader or something?!" He shouts before pinning another one of them down. Unfortunately, he was not used to combat in snow so his agility and speed went down dramatically, sometimes not even being able to run and just tripping.

The winds rose and a snow storm appeared before the wolves as Nyr descended from the sky. Unsure about if these beasts were friends or foes she just wanted to make sure that they harm no one while she regrouped with the others.

" I am sorry for the delay. " she said " I had some... minor issues. "

She then noticed the unconscious Joy and her wrath intensified - and so did the snow storm.

" If those beasts come any closer I swear i will make them regret it. "

Alexander made sweeps, he grabbed a wolf here and there, taking the two up maybe a hundred feet before dropping them, and catching them again, he tried to refrain from actually hurting them, but at the same time wanted to help, perhaps the creatures would leave if he scared them enough. He figured.

He gave one sweep of fire near lunes to push the circling wolves back some, and watched Leo and the pheonix, making sure they did not need his help.

'Are you alright?' He thought to his passenger, making sure she was still safe and comfortable enough.

Anya ducked in the sleigh, she didn't know how she could help, she didn't have any sort of ranged ability. All she had was an urgent feeling, one that they were going the wrong way, and that the chalice couldn't be put off for long. She didn't know why, though.

Her eyes slammed open and she sat up looking around she saw a angry Nyr, vines holding the wolfs back and Leo near her "Thankyou." She whispered. She held out a hand so fire made a steady flame around the vines that trapped all of the wolfs. It didn't burn the vines or the wolves it just trapped them if they broke threw. She shifted and flew over to Elena "Do you have your vines holding them or do you need help?" She asked.

Luness saw Ward doubling back to help her and dodged to the side as he tried to get the werewolves to back off from her. It was as if Luness had a sign on her back saying 'get me first!' though, and they all came back at her again. Snarling, Luness rushed forward and leaped into the air, meeting the pack leader head-on. In this rush though, she accidentally dodged Ward's attempt to get her out of there. The pack leader snarled at Luness and met her tackle by biting hard on one of her front legs. Yelping, Luness went limp in the leader's grasp before he became confused as to how such an injury could disable her like that.

Loosening his grip slightly, Luness then struck, clawing at one of the pack leader's eyes. Instantly blinding the eye and damaging it, the pack leader let go off Luness' leg and she stumbled backwards, now holding her bloodied and damaged leg from putting weight on it. Hissing at the surrounding werewolves, Luness noted that none of them were trying to attack her. They simply stood in a ring around the pair, snarling and occasionally howling. The pack leader recovered from the attack and then charged Luness once more. Nimbly leaping to the side, Luness then jumped onto the pack leader's back, her claws extended and then digging deeply into the leader's back. Howling in pain, the leader whipped around and then threw himself to the ground, attempting to throw Luness off of him by landing on top of her.

Luness saw the trick ahead of time and leaped off of the leader before he could smash her, stumbling into the snow and then tripping due to her injured leg. Once she was down, the leader scrambled towards her, intent to end the fight here and now.

Elena held onto her seat, focusing hard on controlling the vines from within the cabin. If a wolf attempted freedom, a vine would catch it and place it back where tbe rest were, though she had a hard time controlling the individual vines and keeping the wrap firm but not harming. She leaned into the seat and closed her eyes to keep it working, seeing loosely from the perspective of the plant life but mainly just trying to keep it there. She heard Joy speak beside her and Elena smiled, appreciative that they didnt lose the Phoenix for a second time.

"I can handle them.. its working well. Still, the sooner we get away from them the better. Since snow is water, after we leave their sight it should be hard for them to track us.. or they cant track our scent, i mean." She said, remembering a bio lesson she had in highschool.

"I mean we should get out of here now." Her eyes were still shut, squeezed as a vine ripped the injured wolves from the cabinand dragged them through the snow.

Ethan stared at the wolves, shying back and shrinking into the cabin. How was he supposed to help? Werewolves!? He'd never fought a day in his life, and certainly not against giant wolves. He stayed in his seat, watching the others fight with more than a tinge of anxiety.

Leia gave Elena an impressed look. "That was fantastic!" She said gesturing toward the vines. The wolves were falling behind now as the reindeer dashed onwards. She breathed a sigh of relief as Joy flew up beside them. She only hoped Ward and the others would catch up soon.

"Don't worry Ethan," Leia tried to reassure him. "You're in good hands, but here;" She held out the hilt of her sword to him. "Take this in case they catch up again."

Ward cursed under his breath as he missed Luness, turning in mid-air he twisted his body like a cat and turned back and stooped again. "We need to run! There are too many!" As he said this more poured out of the forest.

Ward reached Luness just before the wolf did and tried to grab her again.

"Ward, Leo, Luness, Nyr, Alexander, Quincy, Zelnite! Get to the sleigh NOW!" She yelled. Even the greatest of warrior have to flee some fights and her gut was telling her something would go terribly wrong if they didn't leave soon. If something happened to Nyr or ward she would never forgive herself, they were all her friends but those two were there from the start "Hurry up!" She yelled.

Just as Ward caught Luness and picked her up, the pack leader leaped up and snapped at her, missing everything but her charm necklace. As his jaws clamped down on it, the charm was shattered and the necklace torn off of Luness' neck. Yelping, Luness recoiled from the pack leader as he landed back down on all fours and then let out a howl as Luness escaped with Ward's aid. Letting out a small whine now, Luness went limp in Ward's grasp, watching as blood began trickling down her front leg, oozing from the bite wound and possibly broken bone.

Having heard the cries for retreat, Leo placed his ax back on his back. As the green glow faded from his weapon, Leo was on all fours dashing across the snow . Kicking up snow after the slieghs Leo understood when a tacticle retreat was better than staying and dying..

Elena cursed under her breath as more came. With another burst of energy, she forced the wall of evergreen to extend and grow, more shooting up and curving around the hoards of wolves. Eventually, they were left with a path. The walls were taller than the forest and constantly moving to defend themselves, but allowed group members through. Her biggest concern was getting Ward through unscathed and getting the lynx medical treatment.

Elena found it too much effort to do anything but control the vines, and it was as though her mind had left her body because she was nolonger aware of what was going on in the cabin. She had the faintest clue of Leia saying something. Right now escape and protection were her only thoughts.

Alexander heard the cries for retreat and thought towards the group: 'I can catch up, Quincy and I will stay behind to hold them off of the sleighs.' He made another sweep with a bit of fire towards the wolves just now appearing. He did not aim for them, but just in front of them to hold them off.

Ward held onto the werecat tightly, covering the distance back to the sleds easily with his great, broad wings. He dove through the narrow entrance Elena's wall had left him, feeling a swell of pride. She had come so far, in ability and in her confidence.

The sleds headed into a narrow glacial ravine, walls of ice reared up on either side of them and the path was now too narrow for the sleds to run abreast so they ran single file. The sound of the runners through snow was amplified, rebounding off of the ice walls.

Ward flew just above them, keeping his wing beats constant and shallow to he didn't have to extend his feathers fully to keep aloft.

The passage was beautiful, solid ice glinting blue and purple in the moonlight. Icicles trailed off of snow-covered ledges and it looked as though great waterfalls had been frozen in a flash, gushes of ice still and unmoving in their careening path to the ravine floor.

They kept the pace, the reindeer all too happy to put as much distance between them and the wolves as they could. Ward looked behind and could not see them...for now. He hoped the others would catch up quickly.

Swooping down he set Luness gently on the floors of one of the sleds. Leia helping to lower her in.

They were on solid ice now...it would be very difficult to summon plants to help them now.

"Tend to her as best you can." He said gently. "I will go and help the others."

Nyr got an idea as she flew off from the sled, heading back to the glacier. After she made sure that everyone was actually past the beginning of the narrow chasm she put her palms together as the storm once again started to gather.

" Go! I will collapse this passage so that they would not be able to get through! " she yelled through the howling wind as she blasted the walls of ice as hard as she could. After few attempts the massive ice started to shatter and with gigantic force the snow and ice on the edge fell in the narrow passage behind them, completely blocking off the road. Nyr did not pay attention enough as she caught off guard by the amount of snow falling down and she was enveloped by the falling debris.

Luness' heart raced inside of her, as she wondered if the werewolves had recognized her. After all, she was the big bad wolf's only offspring, though she'd gotten her mother's trials as a werecat, and not her father's werewolf traits. If they had recognized her though, then it would've explained why the pack leader had noticed her so quickly and been so interested in her. Luness had been shunned from the werewolves and left to fend for herself when her father passed away and no longer protected her. Her thoughts were interrupted though, when Ward lay her down on the floor of one of the sleds. The moment her injured leg touched the ground, Luness' eyes widened and she let out a yelp of pain. Once she was completely on the sled and no longer in Ward's grasp, Luness whined and then lifted up her head to look at her leg, which appeared to be a bloodied mess more than anything. Folding her ears back against her head, Luness whimpered at the sight of what she thought was bone amongst the torn skin and muscle in her arm, or front leg.

Leo continued his pace behind the sleds. He marveled at the ice walls that swallowed them. When he felt the shift in terrain he dug his claws into the ice wth each step. The ice was much easier for him to run on. He began to pick up speed so that he could catch up to the last sled and guard the rear incase something else tried to take them by surprise. It wasn't until he heard the dread ravens plan that he began to falter. He looked back and saw the giant wall of ice and snow begin to fall and then suddenly envelop Nyr. His claws screatched across the ice as he slid in a turning motion and began to run back towards the mass of ice and snow. "Keep going, ill get her out!!!" He yelled out to the sleighs. He reached the pile alot snow and wasted no time before he began to lift tons of snow and ice out of the way. "NYR!!! CAN YOU HEAR ME!!"

Elena felt or more like saw the change in terrain as the ice took over. Trying to break the ice, she felt her consciousness slipping. 'No no no.." She saw through the plant life that Nyr was about to get covered by the ice and she couldn't do anything about it. A small part of her whispered 'use the same power, just change the material,' into her mind.

The ice moved around Nyr, creating a double arching tree like structure, barely holding up.

"Nyr!" She cried out running to the falling snow and ice. It was still falling and probably burried Nyr deeper. She climbed ontop of the mountain of ice and snow and digged with her hands "No. No. No!" She yelled quietly. She made her fingers have fire on them so she could dig faster but she didn't know were she was "Come on!" She cried frantically digging threw the snow, her back to the sleigh Trying to find the structure Elena made to protect nyr from the ice under the snow.

Ethan stared at the sword. "I can't fight," he said, leaning out to watch was was happening. He had seen what happened with the lynx and couldn't help but be worried for her, but stayed in the cabin. "I don't know the first thing about swords..."

Only being under the snow for few moments Nyr still felt the icy cold enveloping her body as her temperature was dropping. Then suddenly she saw light and familiar faces appeared in front of her.

" Leo, Joy, Elena... " she managed to say with a weak grin as she coughed out the snow from her freezing mouth. She managed to climb out from the massive snow mound and looked at her saviors.

" Well... that chilled my fiery motivation, didn't it? " she tried to lighten the mood, although she only felt the creeping frost around herself and now she truly understood what it meant to freeze. Her vision became blurry and could barely muster the strength to stand.
