Fantasy ~ FableWood ~

Leo readied himself as he watched the others climb into the snow. Something he enjoyed was long distant runs. They got his blood pumping and made him feel good. He looked around for his companion Banba and scooped her up. "hang on tight little one." Leo relaxed himself and dropped to all fours, a postion he usually did not use as he had the ability to walk upright. The snow felt strang in his hands as it began to melt oncontact with his paw like pads on his hands. Once Ward gave the signal he would sprint at the pace of the reindeer following them to their safe haven.

Ethan stood up and looked sheepish, glancing at the reindeer before looking at Anya. "Uh, yeah," he finally said. "I'll ride with you. You are...?" He climbed in with her, leaving the lynx and pulling his new coat closer around him.

Her face fell three times as grim as Elena's. Joys usual bubbliness was completely obliterated as if someone had grabbed it and jumped and kicked it until it was gone, it was probably noticeable but she didn't really care she got quietly whispered to Elena "I'll just fly. You can take my seat if you would like." she shifted and flew into the air trying to get away so they didn't see her cry. Gods she hated crying it was so unlike her to cry. Her tears fell and she didn't notice as they splattered on the front of the sleigh. Rose was gone, Joy herself almost died, multiple times at that, she just couldn't hold in her tears after that. So she flew high above the others hoping no one noticed her magical tears splattering around them.

Ward raised his wing, and the reindeer that had just hours ago stumbled through into the castle ballroom barked at the others. The sleds moved off.

The gryphon leapt into a slow lope as they galloped down the hill.

"We'll reach the village in no time like this." He said happily. "Hang on tight!"

((Good night all!))

Banba let go of the newcomer, once Leo came closer, and began bouncing at the arrival of the glowing girl. She didn't know her, but the rest seemed to be happy. She squirmed for the first time when Leo picked her up, immediately dropping to the snow and rolling under him as he dropped to all fours. The next thing he would notice was that Banba grew into an even larger lion, big enough to comfortably fit the guardian. She grinned back at him, letting out a giggle too high pitched for her current body.

"A day to day fishing trip does nothing but gathers fish."

Surprised by Banbas sudden transformation, Leo shifted himself on her back and finally made himself comfortable. "Well now, now quite what I had in mind, but this will work I suppose. As long as I do not become a burden." Leo began to laughing at the thought of his bulky lion form ridding an even bigger lion.

Alexander's lips curled up into a smile, revealing his very sharp teeth. He didn't mean it to look threatening, however, dragons are generally rather intimidating creatures by nature. 'Dragons communicate through their minds. It's a very nice trick, actually.' He sucks his head to allow Quincy to climb into his back.

"Anya Piper," she said with a smile holding out her hand.

Elena looked worriedly towards Joy as she flew off, but didn't go after her. They had time to grieve. She needed some time as well. It was to be expected. Elena looked at the occupants of the cabin, noticing only one nonhuman in the group. She leaned her head back, half listening to the idle chatter of the new boy and Anya. Before long, her eyes were closed, falling asleep as she always used to in vehicles. She had not slept more than a few hours since arrival and she might not get much time later on.

Luness froze when Ethan knelt down and began to reach out towards her. Flickering her ears towards him, Luness felt no danger from his actions and so she made no move. Yet, right before he could touch her, Ethan was distracted by the others and left Luness where she was. Watching Ethan climb into the cabin, Luness stood up on her hind legs, now standing like a human. Cocking her head at the cabin that Ethan had entered, Luness stood still for a moment before everyone began to move out. Dropping back down on all fours, Luness began bounding in the direction of the village, her paws carrying her lightly over the thick snow and kicking up snow behind her as she ran along.

Quincy laughed again at his fearsome grin before climbing aboard. Taking care not to hurt him or his beautiful scales, she was soon settled on his back, higher up than she had ever been. And about to go much higher, she realized. “Ive never been so high, or flown anywhere." She said, a note of nervousness in her voice. “Can you hear my thoughts, or must I speak?" She added, not sure how this power of his worked.

Alexander chuckled a little, which is undoubtably an odd sound to hear from such a thing as a dragon, and thought to her, 'No, if you allow me I can also hear into your mind. And don't worry, I will not let you fall' He rose his head and kept forward as he flared his wings. With one mighty downstroke he rose gracefully into the air and set to follow the Sleighs at only a couple hundred feet high.

His chuckle resounded through her body powerfully, sending odd tickling sensations up her spine. Hearing his voice in her mind was oddly comforting, especially when he began to move beneath her. His mighty leap made Quincy let out a surprised squeak, dropping her torso closer to him in an attempt to feel more secure. Within seconds, they were higher than she had ever imagined. 'Can you speak in others' mind when in human form?' She directed the thought to him. She didn't really know how to allow him to hear her thoughts, but it seemed like the right way to do it if there was one. Quincy peeked down over his shoulder, gazing at the blank white landscape, broken only by their party. From up there, it was much more beautiful. She let out a short, happy hum, the view bringing her a little more appreciation for the Winter Wilds.

Ethan smiled slightly, nodding to Anya. "Nice to meet you, Anya." He then fell silent, staring at the landscape as it passed. He could think of nothing more to say for a little while, trying to sort everything out. "How do we get home?" He asked suddenly.

Cursing to herself Nyr finally entered the snow ridden plains on the other side of the portal. The magical turbulence caused by her father's dark magic made her travel slow and painful but ultimately she arrived. It was cold just as the princess told her but not that cold as her previous homeland in the mountains, thus she needed the cape not. Still, she decided to make her way in the wintry landscape slowly not to lose heat if not needed.

It was a beautiful place, one that emanated peace and harmony. She was happy that she could lay her eyes on a world like this but her joy quickly turned into seriousness. She had to find the others and join them in their quest. This time she was determined to be in the fray.

The sleds rocked soothingly and Leia felt herself dosing off like Elena to the creak of harnesses and the happy jingle of bells. The mountains loomed before them, the little valley where they were to pass through quite apparent now, nestled between the treeline on both sides and glowing white against the darkness of the pine forests. The moon was fully visible now, round and fat, waxed to completion high in the sky. She looked at the reindeer, who seemed completely unperturbed by the pace, or the deep snow. Their wide, cloven hooves did not let them sink very far into the drifts and their fur was so thick Leia felt she could bury her hand in it up to her wrist. The fresh powder kicked up by their long legs flashed in the moonlight. Ward loped beside them, every now and again checking the sleds, his golden eyes lingering just a little longer on Elena.

Leia smiled. She wondered if the big lug even knew what it was he was feeling. She said nothing however, it wasn't any of her business, he'd figure it out one day.

The moon hid behind a small bank of cloud, though it was still bright enough to see almost everything. She cast her gaze out into the inky darkness of the forest that now flanked them on both sides. Suddenly something caught her eye, but when she looked it had gone...

"Eyes must be playing tricks." She mumbled, but it happened again, and again it disappeared before Leia could get a good look at it.

Just then the moon's light was restored and it shone in full brilliance down upon them...and Leia saw it. A pair of eyes glinting in the shadows...and they were watching her.

"Probably just a...deer..." she tried to pacify her growing unease, and that of anyone else who had caught sight of the eyes.

They vanished again, which made it even worse, because now she had no idea where they were. She didn't have to worry for long however, because out of the treeline came the huge shape...of a wolf.

"Maybe its friendly?" She whimpered, but her last shred of hope evaporated when she saw it flash its glistening teeth. Slowly it broke into a lope. Leia started to panic as more shapes filed out of the trees.

The reindeer had spotted them now too and were looking about nervously.

"RUN!" Leia yelled, and the reindeer bolted into full speed.

Alexander glanced down and noticed the shapes below. 'Hold on.' He thought to his passenger, decending with an angry roar meant to scare the wolves off, or at least to usher the caribou on. He circled about 50 feet up, plenty low enough to fight off the wolves and help protect the caravan of need be.

Anya looked at Ethan, and answered his question, "We don't know. I thought that if I helped the princess would eventually send us back." She seemed worried though, with that response. She wasn't certain that the others were even trying to get back. When the shapes started coming from the woods she sat up straighter, watching them. Surly a team of caribou could out run them, right?

Ethan frowned, not reassured by that answer, but jumped at the sound of Alexander's roar. He forgot the question of getting home, looking out to see what was happening. He couldn't help but be anxious — what if he had to fight? Or one of the reindeer were injured? How could he help at all? He glanced back at Anya, but didn't say any more. He hoped the dragon would be enough to scare off the beasts on his own. Ethan was certain it would be enough for him; attacking a team guarded by a dragon didn't seem like a good course of action.

Banba ran ahead, easily catching up with the sleds and keeping pace with them. She slowed only when the shapes began appearing out of the forest, but only to get a better look at them. She followed Alexander's lead and let out a road, snarling at the shapes.

Lexi had listened to Ward, looking at the current goal: reach the destination. Trudging through the snow, her boots did fine on their part but some if the snow was freezing her feet and taking it off would definitely be a bad idea. Then she heard yelling. It was Elena, claiming to have found a boy. How so? Only now did Lexi began to notice that male humans were uncommon in their team so she made a mental note to think logic about the matter in a later, more appropriate time.

Approaching the boy, she learned his name was Ethan, a slightly common name that she will not struggle pronouncing. Smiling, she watched as the others took over answering Ethan's questions and she was only able to appreciate how efficient this group was. Then, upon seeing Ashley's difficulty, as if on cue, their ride arrived, claimed as a gift from the Snow Queen. It was a pretty cabin and Lexi concluded that many people had good tastes in this universe. She crawled into her shelter with the help of Ward who she nodded her thanks to. She jerked slightly at the sudden beginning of their journey but soon recovered and took a quick nap, unaware how unflattering she looks sleeping while sitting in a closed compartment.

When the change of speed happened, she woke up with a start, looking confused but soon learning the situation and assuring herself that it was fine, she tried to relax. She noted the presence of the humans with her and decided it might not be a right time to introduce herself to Ethan, unless of course, he asked.

Quincy watched the shapes move below, catching sight of them easily from above. He dove, and she flattened herself against him as the wind grew stronger with his speed. His roar shook her and rang in her ears, but it was exhilarating. The kelpie carefully reached over her shoulder and readied her bow. If those wolves got closer to the teams after both roars, she would start shooting. The only thing she could think: 'This is not good.'

As Luness ran along with everyone else, she instantly smelled the presence of approaching wolves. Her fur stood on end with this in mind, flashbacks already flooding her mind. Upon seeing a snarling wolf approaching the group, Luness let out a snarl and did the first thing that came to her mind. She took a flying leap at the nearest large wolf and the pair began rolling in the snow as they both slid to a halt in the snow, leaving a trail in the snow. Once they both stopped rolling, Luness leapt to all fours, looking at the wolf and knowing without hesitation that she'd just attacked the pack leader head-on. Snarling at the wolf, Luness began circling him, though he did the same in return. His golden eyes glowed in the dark of the night, watching Luness' every move while her green and golden eyes watched him in return. Folding her ears against her head, Luness hissed at the pack leader and he snarled in return, and Luness wondered if she'd helped slow the pack of wolves at all by distracting the pack leader.

She looked down and saw wolfs. Big wolfs. She was immediately frightened, but not for herself, she was terrified someone would get hurt. In her Phoenix form she turned downwards and shot at the wolfs. Her fire immediately injured all of them but she wasn't strong enough on her own. She pranced backwards so 1 of them followed her and attacked it. She shifted human and her eyes glowed brightly enough to illuminate the area, she lunged at it kicking her leg she tripped it then opened her arms wide and fire surged wrapping it and burning it but before it died of fire she felt claws running down her back and let out an ear shattering scream before the worlds went black.

The wolves shied away, noticing the dragon swoop down from the heavens. It did not slow all of them however and gradually the others regained confidence. When Banba roared they looked nervous, but it was as if something was driving them on.

"They're werewolves!" Ward cried as he sped up to match the reindeer.

He saw Joy stand up to them, wreathed in flame. "They can't stop themselves, its the Chalice! Try not to hurt them!"

Just then he saw Luness tackle a particularly large wolf and gasped as she tumbled to a halt in the snow. Several other wolves doubled back to ring her in. In a few leaps Ward had made it into the air, pumping his wings and blowing up a cloud of snow as he looped around. With a screech he dove at the circle, scattering several. He reached out with his forelimbs, aiming to stoop and snatch the werecat out of danger.

It was then he saw Joy cut down. "No!" he yelled, but he could not help both his friends at once, "Alexander! Leo!" he called, "Please help Joy!"

They were closer now, Leia could see they were much larger than she's expect any wolf to be, and their eyes were strange, something of a red glow to them. "Werewolves?! Oh of course they were werewolves! Just regular wolves wouldn't be exciting enough right?" She said sarcastically, drawing her sword. At her feet she noticed spare traces, leather straps pinned to one another with iron bolts. She grabbed a spare harness and waited until one wolf had almost caught up with them. She aimed the ball of straps and threw it right at the creature's feet. The tangle of leather tripped the beast and it collapsed in a cloud of fresh powder.

"Yeah! Bullseye!"

Then she saw her friend fall. "Joy!" She screamed. Just then a gust of wind blew past her, it rushed to the phoenix's side and blew the surrounding wolves away. They tumbled back but quickly regained their balance. The wind spirit that had decided to stay with Leia appeared by Joy's side, ready to fight.

Leo looked back as he heard Ward motion to help the Phoenix. Leo grasped the hilt of the double bladed war ax on his back and swung it around. He hopped up on two feet on the back of Banba and jumped off. Landing several yards away from Joy he sprinted across the snow with alarming speed. "Great spirit of the forest, dull thy blade so has not to hurt those who cannot control their actions." Those were the last words the were wolf would hear before the green glow of the ax blade came crashing into the side of his flank, sending him flying several yards away from the Phoenix. In the few moments he had before the wolf righted himself and charged them, Leo turned to the girl "My lady are you alright?" Before he had a chance to help her, the were wolf was on top of them again. He lunged at the pair claws poised to rip through both of them, but the staff of Leo's ax caught his teeth and claws. Leo pushed the were wolf up and then brought the other end of his ax up into the wolfs jaws. This would probably break its jaw, but wouldn't kill it outright. The wolf staggered after being hit and fell to the side, Leo breathed watching the other wolves but then turned back to the girl. Seeing her blacked out in the snow, he knelt beside her and place his hands together. "Oh great forest, heal her wounds so that she my raise and destroy the darkness of the world." His hands glowed green and he placed them over the girl. The glow began to exspand around her, healing the wolves attacks on her.
