  Deep within the forest, a young girl - no older than seventeen - stood. A familiar tree stump was rooted in front of her. Rain pelted the ground, soaking her completely. Despite the relentless chilly water, she remained still, almost catatonic. She kneeled in front of the stump, extended her right arm, and stroked stump's wooden surface. Suddenly, a surge of power coursed through her veins. Her golden brown hues illuminated a brilliant sea green. Flashes of images surfaced inside her mind, including a plethora of whispers.
  
  
  
  
  
  Pain ... Obliteration ... Death.
  
  
  
  
  
  "ALLISON!" A banshee-like scream echoed.
  
  
  
  
  
  She gasped, releasing her grip on the stump. Her eyes dimmed, resuming a warm brown. She lifted her hand, inspecting her fingers. Sharp claws replaced her fingernails. A patch of iridescent scales peppered her right hand. Confusion plastered on her expression. What was happening to her? Why was she in front of the Nemeton?
  
  
  
  
  
  "It's finally happening," a voice announced.
  
  
  
  
  
  She stiffened, recognizing the voice. Specifically, the pet name. She craned her neck back, spotting a older woman. Her heart clenched painfully. "M-Mom?" she croaked. She rose into a standing position, turned around, and faced her mother. Similar to her attire, her mother wore a plain white dress.
  
  
  Her mother, Nozomi, smiled warmly. "Hello Ruri," she greeted. She stepped forward and caressed her daughter's cheek. "My, my, you have grown," she added.
  
  
  
  
  
  Ruri, or Rue, flinched, feeling her mother's icy hand graze her skin. Cold like death. She swallowed the lump in her throat and removed her mother's hand from her face. "What's happening to me?" she inquired, recalling her mother's previous statement.
  
  
  Her smile widened. "A wonderful gift has been awakened, my sweet jewel. Your time has come," Nozomi declared.
  
  
  
  
  
  A frown marred her lips. "Time for what?" Rue questioned.
  
  
  "To take my place," Nozomi answered. After her statement, her body vanished.
  
  
  
  
  
  Rue whipped her head back, scanning her surroundings. "Mom? What do you mean? Mom? Mom!" she hollered. Her shouts were drowned by the endless rain. All of the sudden, whispers resonated off the trees, growing louder and stronger. Images flashed inside her psyche, depicting pain, mayhem, and death.
  
  
  "ALLISON!"
  
  
  Rue shot up, gasping. She clutched her covers, breathing heavily. She scanned her surroundings, recognizing her room. She glanced at her alarm clock; it read 9:05 AM. She breathed in deeply and exhaled through her nostrils. She repeated the exercise, calming her erratic heartbeat. She lifted her hands and inspected her fingertips. They were normal. No claws or shimmery scales. Suddenly, a ringtone chimed, eliciting a startled squeak. She retrieved her cellphone from her nightstand, swiped her thumb across the touchscreen, and opened the text.
  
  
  Feeling better? -Scott.
  
  
  She arched an eyebrow. "Feeling better-" Rue cut herself off, remembering Scott's concern. Two weeks passed since they defeated the Alpha pack, including the Darach. After the Nemeton was activated, Rue felt ... different. Something was happening to her. She recalled expressing a higher than normal interest to water, especially large quantities. At one point, Stiles found her submerged in the school's pool, fully clothed. According to Stiles, she was laying on the bottom of the pool. Ironically, Rue doesn't remember what happened. Last time she checked, she was at home, ready for bed. Yesterday, she collapsed at school. The school nurse claimed it resulted from extreme dehydration. Considering the odds, it was a bloody mystery. She wouldn't admit it, but she was terrified. One thing was certain. It wasn't natural.
  
  
  I'm fine. Stiles is coming over at 10 to check on me. Will keep you posted -Rue.
  
  
  A few minutes later, Scott responded,
  
  
  K. -Scott.
  
  
  Rue placed her phone on her nightstand, slipped out of her bed, and headed toward her bathroom across the hall. Fortunately, it was Saturday. Since her father worked early, she was alone. Sometimes, her aunt visited. However, she was out of town on a business trip. Rue stepped inside her bathroom, performed her morning routine, showered, and returned to her bedroom. She changed into something comfortable, descended down the stairs, and entered the kitchen. She fixed herself a bowl of cereal, wandered in her living room, and sat down on a couch. Unlike the stereotype, Rue's home wasn't traditionally Japanese. It was a normal, two-story American-styled household. She flicked on her TV, consumed her cereal, and waited for Stiles to arrive.
  
  
  "ALLISON!"
  
  
  Her grip on her bowl tightened. Why was the scream familiar? Rue glanced at her hands, recalling the wicked claws and fish-like scales. Her mother mentioned taking her place. For what? Deaton warned them about the dangers locating the Nemeton. Yet, she didn't participate. She wanted to volunteer, but Stiles, Scott, and Allison represented their parents. She remembered waiting for hours, praying her friends didn't stay dead. For a moment, she wondered what her friends were experiencing. Did they have visions? Hallucinations? Deaton mentioned closing their mind or something dark would enter. What did he mean? More she pondered, more frustrated she became. Rue hated not having answers.

  "No, no, don't let them in!"
  
  
  Stiles tossed and turned in his bed, his arms and legs flailing about whilst his forehead was drenched with sweat. But this was different - This felt like just another one of his terrible dreams but it seemed that he was watching himself from another person's perspective, someone else inside his dream...
  
  
  He struggled to understand what happened next as the scenery changed, his body now standing upright in an extremely tight space. He exhaled and he felt his chest press against the wall in front of him, his hands exploring the unfamiliar area around him so as to get his bearings. He took a deep breathe but the lack of oxygen in this place was overwhelming him, making him feel out of breathe.
  
  
  That was until he saw the blur of light from the wall behind him, causing him to squeeze his body so that it turned around to face it. There was four rectangular lines, almost like a window. He sighed as the realization hit him: He was in a locker. Why he would be dreaming this puzzled him but with the sacrifice just happening, a lot of stuff had begun to puzzle him.
  
  
  Stiles pushed the locker door and it opened, the creaking of the door being the only sound he could hear - Oh wait, there was something else. A sound that somehow resembled fire-flies, his brain told him anyway. There was none to be seen, but he felt certain that they were out there somewhere. He walks out, his hand lifting to cover his face as he was not used to the blinding light. That was until he stumbled on something, falling to the ground. By now, his eyes were used to the light and he could see he was in a classroom, but there was something else peculiar about it was well...
  
  
  The Nemeton was growing out of the floor.
  
  
  The boy stumbles back quickly as after the sacrifice to save his father, he had grown to be quite scared of the somewhat innocent-looking stump. All of a sudden, vines struck out from under the Nemeton and wrapped around his wrists, pulling him towards it.
  
  
  But yet again, the scenery changed - Now he was back in his bed but he could feel the warmth of someone next to him. He turned his body to see the sight of Rue, one of his dearest friends, lying down next to him.
  
  
  "Rue?" He asked, feeling already relaxed. There was, however, a lingering voice in the back of his head telling him to beware, but of what he could not hear.
  
  
  It was only now that he realized the unlikelihood of having Rue in his bed, something that would only happen in his dreams - but not this, this was a nightmare. It seemed the girl was about to say something but the sound of his bedroom door opening slightly interrupted her.
  
  
  Stiles immediately got up, shouting at Rue's protests. "But what if they get in!?" It was only now that Stiles realized he had no control over what he was doing, or what he was saying. He continued to walk towards the door and swung it open with one swipe of is hand. The sight he saw through the door shocked him, haunting him to the core.
  
  
  It was himself, standing over the Nemeton as if it was swallowing him up until he was no more.
  
  
  Stiles screamed as loud as he could, trying to imitate how Lydia would scream herself and there was blackness.
  
  
  Stiles threw his body up, feeling the sweat dripping down his face from his forehead, wincing slightly as it stung his eyes. He could somehow feel that it was real now, this was not a dream. How, he did now know. He glanced at the clock but of course he could not read it. Over the past couple of days after the sacrifice, the boy had had trouble reading anything, whether it be numbers or letters no matter.
  
  
  He sighed getting up. Scott had told him a couple of days ago of what he thought his sleeping disorder was: Sleep Paralysis. It was when the sleeper’s brain paralyses the body to avoid acting out a dream in the real world. He also said that sometimes the brain wakes before the body recovers and a person becomes aware they are paralyzed.Stiles suddenly remembered he had told Rue he was going to be there at 10. Stiles did not know if he was late or early but he still rushed to the bathroom to begin his morning routine as fast as possible, soon stripping and jumping in the shower.
  
  
  Once he was done, he threw on his clothes and ran down the stairs, throwing his bag on his back as he ran out the door.
  
  
  Rue lived only a coupled of houses away from his own, so he was able to run there in no time. He reached her front porch and picked up the secret rock that hid her house key. He unlocked it after he had hid the key back to its original place, opening the door and rushing in.
  
  
  "Rue?" He called, his voice dripping with concern and worry.

  "Rue?"
  
  
  By the time Stiles arrived, Rue consumed her breakfast, washed her bowl, and settled in the living room, watching Netflix. Five full water bottles were scattered on the couch. After the Nemeton activated, Rue craved water. Lots and lots of water. She rarely drank anything else, including her favorite beverage: tea. Since she collapsed last time neglecting her craving, Rue didn't fight it. She sipped her water bottle, capped it, and placed it on the coffee table next to her couch. She craned her neck back and flagged Stiles over. Normally, she dressed more stylish, but Saturdays were lazy days. Plus, she felt like crap. Despite not neglecting her urge to consume large quantities of water, something was frazzling her nerves. When she showered, the feeling calmed, but it came back with a vengeance. Rue doesn't remember a lot from the night Stiles found her in the pool, but she remembered feeling the same sensation. Hopefully, there won't be a repeat. Scaring her friends was the last thing she wanted.
  
  
  "No need to sound worried, Stiles. I got my water," Rue pointed out, motioning to her bottles. Before leaving the infirmary, the nurse recommended increasing her water intake. Rue figured it out already, but she accepted the nurse's comment. She picked up her remote and hit resume. She was currently watching her favorite Marvel movie, or the Avengers. Hence, her Captain America memorabilia. Unbeknownst to most, Rue loves anything nerdy, especially Marvel. At school, her nerd appreciation was muted. She wasn't ashamed of her obsession, but she preferred fashion-oriented outfits over her geeky attire. Plus, Lydia would kill her for not wearing her cute clothes. Downside having a fashion expert as a friend.
  
  
  Rue retrieved her bottle from the coffee table, unscrewed the lid, and sipped it. Regardless of her agitated nerves, she masked it from view. She worried Stiles enough. "Did you get any sleep?" she inquired, recalling the dark circles underneath her best friend's eyes. Something might be happening to her, but she was more concerned about her friends, especially Stiles, Scott, and Allison. All of them made a sacrifice. It was a subtle at first, but Rue could pinpoint the changes in her friends' behavior. Stiles was having nightmares. Allison was experiencing vivid hallucinations. Scott was having difficulties adjusting to his True Alpha status. There was more to it, but it didn't matter. Rue wished she could ease their suffering, but it was out of her control. Her strange occurrences didn't help either.
  
  
  "ALLISON!"
  
  
  She flinched, dropping her bottle. It spilled water on her lap. Rue attempted grabbing it, but it slipped on the floor. "Son of a bitch," she cursed. She leaned down, picked up her bottle, and inspected it. Most, if not all the water, was gone. A scowl carved on her expression. "Fantastic," she muttered. Rue dropped it on her coffee stand, stood up, and brushed past Stiles. A few minutes later, she returned with a towel. Rue patted down her lap, soaking the excess water off her yoga pants. Fortunately, it was water. If she was drinking something else, Rue might of snapped. She wasn't in the mood for heavy spills.
  
  
  "I dream about it, y'know. The Nemeton. I don't know why, but I'm drawn to it," Rue confessed. She tossed her towel on the couch and sat down. She plucked a full bottle from the couch, unscrewed the lid, and sipped it. "I know it sounds crazy, but I think its trying to tell me something," she added. She leaned back and stared at her best friend. Stiles and Scott were her first and closest friends. Once Allison moved in Beacon Hills, she forged a close friendship with the hunter's daughter. Her relationship with Lydia grew closer, especially after Jackson left the country. Having female friends was great, but her loyalties to the boys were stronger. They were there when her mother died. Losing her mother was one of the hardest experiences in her life. Something she had in common with Stiles. Ironically, they all lived in single parent homes.

  Stiles couldn't help but smile a little at the sight of Rue sitting on the sofa with her five water bottles, one of which he had given to her. He knew that it wasn't just dehydration as the reason of why she craved water so much, he knew that there was something else happening there - Especially with the Nemeton being activated. He had his suspicions, but he never mentioned them to her. Everything was confusing enough around here and he didn't want to make it worse. Ever since he found her in that swimming pool, that was when he knew something was up for real.
  
  
  He also began to worry about her since the last time she stopped drinking water. She had collapsed as if she was weak without it. To him, it seemed as if it was her power source but he hadn't had the time to do any of his research. With everything going on, he doubted he would ever have the time. It was calm right now and everyone knew that something would be coming soon, and everything would just turn to shit...again.
  
  
  He smiled as Rue craned her neck to look at him, his eyes returning the favor as he looked at what she was wearing herself. "Nice shirt." He smirked a little, walking over to her and sitting down next to her comfortably. That was one thing they both had in common: Their incredibly geeky side. They had endured many hours of Marvel marathons and other things they both enjoyed together. He laughed at her comment as she waved to her water bottles. ]COLOR=CYAN]"Yep, I see that."[/CYAN] He smiled lightly, lifting his legs up and putting them on the table as he made sure he wouldn't knock any of the bottles down. Whenever Stiles was with Rue, it felt, just for a moment, that everything else didn't matter. He knew, very cliche - But it was true. Being with her was calming and relaxing for him, even with his continuous thumping head ache and the jittery feeling he had whenever he thought about...well, you get it.
  
  
  The boy immediately grinned as he saw what she was watching, glancing at her with a little excitement. "Is this one of the old ones?" He asked. Everyone knew that Stiles was a sucker for the classics. His excitement soon vanished as he squinted his eyes to try and read the opening credits. He sighed gently as he watched the letters all jumbled up. He glanced away a little, not wanting to worsen his headache.
  
  
  Stiles watched her as she took another sip, wondering if there would be any reaction from the taste. It looked as if she was hiding something though, something that the boy was a expert at deciding if someone was. He tensed a little at her question, biting his lower lip a little. "No...not really." He said softly, rubbing his eyes as if on instinct. Ever since the sacrifice, things have been different and he knew everyone knew that already. With the Nemeton now activated, the pack knew that more and more supernatural creatures they had no idea existed would slowly pass through their town. After all, the tree stump was the beacon for Beacon Hills. "How about you? Are you feeling better?" He asked, glancing at her.
  
  
  Suddenly, Rue dropped her bottle and the contents spilled in her lap. Stiles eyes perked up with concern as she reacted. He bit his lip, watching as she cursed and dropped the now empty bottle on the table. He leaned forward and picked it up, standing and walked to the kitchen. Stiles filled it up and walked out just to see Rue drying off her pants. The boy passed the water bottle back to Rue, sitting down next to her. "Hey, it's fine." He said trying to reassure her. Stiles took the towel and dabbed the few spots of water that had fallen from her.
  
  
  Stiles tensed again as he listened to what Rue was saying. He bit his lip, dropping the towel back onto the table as he leaned back into the sofa. He remembered the dream he had himself last night. He didn't want to worry her even more and say that he seemed to be having the same sort of thing, so he didn't. "Really?" He asked, concerned. He bit his lip, glancing back at the TV. "What was the dream about?" Stiles added quickly. "It could be a clue as to whats happening..." His voice trailed off as he stared back at his best friend. It was nice to talk to someone like this. Both Rue and Scott had always been there for him, and he knew that their friendship is something that would never break. Ever.

  "What was the dream about?"
  
  
  Rue averted her gaze, staring at her flat screen TV. She grew silent, debating the pros and cons revealing her nightmarish dreams. She didn't want to burden Stiles with her problems. He, along with Scott and Allison, were recovering from their sacrifice. So many things were happening. Why add more fuel to the fire? On the other hand, Stiles was her best friend. Plus, the second smartest person she knew. Lydia might pretend to be ditsy, but she was a freaking genius. Thankfully, after Jackson left, Lydia revealed her true colors. If she confessed her dreams, Stiles might find a solution. His problem solving abilities kept everyone alive. He was the glue in their circle of friends, or pack. A few minutes after fighting her instincts, she caved. "Something's going to happen. Something bad. Really bad. I don't know what, but I think the Nemeton is trying to show it," Rue admitted. She gripped her water bottle tightly, crinkling the plastic. She stared at the swirling water, watching it swish back and forth. "I been getting bad feelings since it was activated. Then, the cravings started," she added. Rue unscrewed the lid and sipped her water, guzzling half the bottle. She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand and screwed the lid shut. She curled her legs against her chest, wrapped her arms around her ankles, and rested her head on her knees.
  
  
  "Last night, I dreamed about my mother. She told me a gift has been awakened and I'm taking her place. What the hell does that mean?" Rue declared. Similar to Stiles, when she started talking, she had a tendency rambling. Rue shifted her head and stared at her best friend. "Plus, I keep hearing Lydia's scream. The worse part? She screams one word. Allison," she added. Rue isn't fond confessing the full extent of her problems, but her close friends were an exception. Well, when her stubbornness doesn't get in the way. Among all her friends, she confined in Stiles the most. They shared a stronger bond compared to her relations with everyone else, including Scott. "Allison, Allison, Allison. That's all I hear," she mumbled. Suddenly, her cellphone chimed, alerting a text. She retrieved it from her coffee stand, swiped her thumb across the touchscreen, and opened the text.
  
  
  Did Stiles make it? -Scott.
  
  
  Rue typed a response and hit send,
  
  
  Yeah, he's here. -Rue.
  
  
  She placed her phone on the stand and leaned back, stretching her legs. She attempted watching the movie, but her mind was occupied. Why was she hearing Lydia's banshee scream? Banshees were harbingers of death, so did it mean - no. Rue stopped her train of thought, refusing to finish her sentence. Allison would be fine. Despite the innumerable amount of shit they faced, they all survived. Yes, they lost Erica and Boyd, but they were survivors. Additionally, Allison is a badass hunter. She wouldn't die without a fight. Rue undid her messy bun and carded fingers through her dark hair. Frustration and weariness rolled off her in waves. After days of madness, she was near her breaking point. Rue wanted to help her friends, but with her own problems, it was impossible. She remembered Deaton mentioning - wait, Deaton! He was very knowledgeable about the Supernatural realm, including anything mysterious. She made a mental note to visit the animal clinic later. Maybe not today, but soon. Really soon.
  
  
  "What should I do, Stiles?" Rue questioned softly. She preferred solving her own problems, but she couldn't find a solution. Something inside her changed. Perhaps, she was cursed? poisoned? Maybe it was a phase? After the pool incident, she realized she needed help. It wasn't a one man - or in her case, woman - job. Without her friends, she might do something dangerous. What could be worse than a near drowning experience or collapsing? She bit her lip, banishing the thought. She didn't want to know.
  
  
  Deaton warned them about the Nemeton attracting other supernatural creatures. They endured psychotic Alphas, deranged hunters, lizard monsters, and a evil druid. What was next? Godzilla? Half her friends possessed supernatural healing, but she was human. Soft skin and fragile bone. Another thing she shared with Stiles. "The cravings are growing stronger. I ... I might sleep walk again," Rue admitted. What happened to her wasn't sleep walking, but she didn't know what to call it. One minute, she was inside her bed. Next, she was heaving water out of her lungs. What do you call that? Rue leaned her head back, staring at the ceiling. She traced her right inner wrist tattoo absentmindedly, stroking the infinity symbol. During the night Scott acquired his tattoo, she joined him. Unlike him, she bought two. Bird themes were one of her favorite trends. Her collarbone tattoo hurt, but the pain didn't bother her. Sometimes, she teased Stiles about his aversion to needles.

  Hey, I was thinking, you know how because of the sacrifice Stiles can't read? Do you have any ideas of how that would stop, because in the show it stopped when they saved Malia, etc.? I'm thinking Rue and Stiles kiss....*shrugs* xD

  Stiles watched closely as she reacted to his question about the dream. He suddenly felt like he crossed the line. If anyone asked him to tell his dreams, he would never want to do that. He bit his lip, glancing away from her as she grew silent. It seemed she was thinking, very deeply he noticed. He wanted to help her, even if it made things more complicated. He already knew that something was going on and as Rue began to speak, he felt proud that she could trust him.
  
  
  The boy listened intently, keeping his expression normal all through the way she spoke. He had a certain knack of doing that, as a way of reassuring the person speaking that he was on their side. He glanced down to the water bottle in her hands after hearing the crinkling of he plastic. He bit his lip. He didn't want to make Rue uncomfortable or anything and as he was about to stop her from continuing, she spoke again.
  
  
  He knew that the cravings had something to do with the Nemeton, he had already decided. He remembered what Deaton had said a while ago: "It can activate the supernatural sides of supposed humans." Stiles wondered if this was what was happening to Rue, but he didn't say anything as she watched her take another sip. Stiles moved a little closer to her, wrapping his arm around her neck as she curled her legs against her chest. He just wanted to comfort her and continued to listen to the words.
  
  
  Stiles eyes fled with concern as he heard about Rue's mother. He had been there for her when she had passed, Scott too. That was another thing they both had common: Losing their mothers. He brought his other hand to her hair and put a strand of hair back behind her ear. If her mother was trying to communicate with her from...well, wherever the hell you go if you die, then maybe this was not a dream but a vision. Also, Stiles thought, '...a gift has been awakened and she is taking her place,". Could that mean that whatever is happening to Rue, could've happened to her mother? Maybe her mother had an important role and she is now leaving it to her? Stiles' thoughts were exploding and he had about a dozen different leads now. He bit his lip, glancing down at her. "Uh, Rue?" He asked gently. "Was there a possibility that your mother was some sort of supernatural?
  
  
  The boy glanced down at her as she spoke yet again. He was quite shocked and wasn't sure how to react. More ideas and thoughts came to his head, but one stood out He bit his lip, not wanting to upset her. "If we haven't heard Lydia screaming her name before, then maybe this isn't a present sort of thing." He pulled away from her, looking at her more directly. "What if this is now going to happen in the future?"
  
  
  Stiles scratched his neck slightly, the realization hitting him hard. "If it was Lydia's banshee scream, then that would mean..." He stopped himself, not being able to say it out loud. Then that would mean Allison is going to die. He shook his head quickly. "No." He simply said, almost as if it were final. He was saved by the ring of Rue's phone. He caught a glimpse of the words on the screen but yet again, they were all messed up.
  
  
  Stiles glanced away as she leaned back into the chair, he doing the same. His mind went back to Allison. If this was true, of which he hoped was not, the pack needs to think about what would cause that. At this moment, there was no 'bad guys' around so if there was something coming, they need to prepare themselves. He shook his head. We have all survived 3 years of this, and he knew that Allison could not stop. We were all going to make it to senior year, or another. We would all live.
  
  
  He glanced at Rue as he heard her voice again. He bit his lip, still watching her closely. "I...We need to tell the others." He said softly in reply. "If this dream is somehow connected to what you are and...Allison, then the others need to know." He tapped his fingers on his jeans, something he did when he was deep in thought. "If you feel like you shouldn't, then I can go and do my own research. Maybe I can find something helpful." He said, a reassuring smile on his face. "At least we have a chance of preparing whatever might be coming..." His voice trailed away slightly as he turned his head.
  
  
  Both Stiles and Rue were human, well...as for as they now, she is. He bit his lip, realizing that if the girl was somehow supernatural now, he would bet he only human in the pack left. He sighed gently, not sure if that was a good or bad thing. He always felt like he was a damsel in distress and since he couldn't protect himself like the others, he was a burden. He knew that for definite. He glanced at her again as he heard her voice. "If you really feel like it might happen again, let me stay with you tonight."   "Was there a possibility that your mother was some sort of supernatural?"
  
  
  Rue stiffened. She grew silent, processing his words. She had her suspicions, but was it true? Could it be true? If her mother wasn't human, did that mean she was - no. It couldn't be ... could it? Whether she liked it or not, it would explain her strange behavior, including her outrageous cravings. Did her father know about it? Her aunt? Why did her mother keep it a secret? Was there a secret to be kept? Doubt, confusion, and indecisiveness swirled inside her stomach, increasing her anxiety. "I ... I don't know," Rue confessed. She craned her neck back, staring at her close friend. She faintly registered his arm around her neck, but ignored it. Affectionate, or comforting gestures wasn't anything new. "I have my suspicions, but I never..." considered it. Rue shifted and rested her head on Stiles shoulder, seeking comfort from her best friend. Normally, if she didn't feel like crap, she wouldn't be this affectionate. Unbeknownst to everyone, including Stiles, Rue developed ... feels. She didn't know when it started or how it manifested, but it was just ... there. After the night of Hotel California, or the creepy rundown hotel, she realized her development. When it concerned Scott or Stiles, she was an open book. They knew her inside and out. Hiding things from them was impossible. However, this was different. It was a bloody miracle masking her feels. No traces whatsoever. Rue cherished their friendship, so she intended to keep it that way.
  
  
  "What if this is now going to happen in the future?"
  
  
  A scowl carved on her expression. "I'm not an oracle. It could be a coincidence," Rue pointed out. She grimaced, recalling Sheriff Stilinski's motto. Once is a incident. Twice is a coincidence. Thrice is a pattern. Considering her odds, it extended past thrice. She didn't want to admit it, but Stiles was right. Perhaps, the Nemeton was warning her about the future. It would explain her bad feelings. However, did that mean Allison was in danger? Fuck, she wished she could remember the images! "Allison will be fine. We'll all be fine," she assured. She refused losing another friend. Erica and Boyd were enough. If they could survive a pack of Alphas, they could survive their next curve ball. She refused giving up without a fight.
  
  
  "I...We need to tell the others."
  
  
  What you are. Rue swallowed a lump in her throat. She remembered Deaton mentioning the Nemeton's capabilities, including triggering dormant abilities. Was she a supernatural creature? Maybe ... Maybe she was a mutant? Or a human with extraordinary abilities? Perhaps, she was a legacy! It sounded ridiculous, but she didn't care. It was difficult accepting his statement. Believe it or not, she liked being human. Yes, it would be beneficial having superhuman abilities, but what was wrong with Team Human? Despite her humanity, Rue wasn't defenseless. She has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She's capable using a kubaton, a small, but deadly weapon. Plus, she's flexible and acrobatic. Since the night Scott was bitten, her skills saved her life variously. Rue breathed in deeply and exhaled through her nostrils, calming her agitated nerves. "What am I suppose to say? 'Hey, I'm having visions of death and screaming. Keep an eye on Allison!' We got enough to deal with. If I'm ... whatever the hell this-" Rue gestured to her water bottles. "-is, where do we start? Most of the stuff my mother owned was destroyed in the fire. We salvaged a few photo albums, but that's about it. My dad won't be much help. He never talks about her," she vented. Her mother, Nozomi, died in a house fire. Years ago, she lived in a house blocks away from Stiles. However, during a sleepover, her house erupted in flames. According to the fire department, it resulted from faulty wiring. Her father was away on a business trip, avoiding the fire. Her mother, on the other hand, perished. Her burnt form was so severe, they conducted a closed casket funeral.
  
  
  "I don't want to tell them. Not until I know what this is," Rue declared. She lowered her gaze, staring at her water bottle. "I don't want to worry everyone, especially Scott. When Allison's involved, he'll be on edge. Predicting her possible doom? Not the best way helping a werewolf adjusting to his True Alpha status," she added. Allison and Scott might of ended things, but Scott cared about Allison. She was his first love. He'll always care about her. Similar to Stiles, she didn't have much dating experience. Most boys pissed her off. Others didn't like her choice of friends. She dated a total of two guys, but things didn't work out. Fortunately, they ended on mutual terms.
  
  
  "If you really feel like it might happen again, let me stay with you tonight ... I insist."
  
  
  Her heart stuttered. Stiles staying here? In her house? Sleepovers were nothing new, but things changed. Her first instinct was declining his offer, but it sounded appealing. Rue didn't trust herself anymore. If her assumption was correct, she would have a repeat of the pool incident. It was a miracle Stiles arrived in time. "If you're staying tonight, you better notify the Sheriff," Rue announced, accepting his offer. She considered Sheriff Stilinski her second father. She loved her dad, but after her mother's death, he wasn't the same. They didn't share a close relationship. Her aunt, on the other hand, was a different story.

  Rue jumped, startled by her phone's loud ringtone. She leaned over Stiles, retrieved her cell, and swiped her thumb across the touchscreen. She settled back and pressed her phone against her ear. "Hello?" she answered. A frown marred her lips, listening to her caller. "You sure? Yeah, we're game," she added. Rue glanced at Stiles and mouthed Scott. A scoff escaped her lips. "Don't be a worry wolf, Scotty. I'll be fine. Let's catch us a werecoyote," she replied. After confirming Scott's whereabouts, she ended the call. She removed Stiles arm from her neck, slipped off her couch, and stood up. "We got to move. Scott was patrolling Mr. Tate's property when he heard gunshots. If we don't help him, Mr. Tate might shoot his daughter dead," she recited. Without another word, Rue crossed the living room, climbed up the stairs, and rushed to her bedroom. Chasing a Werecoyote in yoga pants wasn't ideal. Five minutes later, she descended down the steps, changed and ready to go. To prevent another disaster, Rue packed her water bottles in her bag.
  
  
  "I hope you're fine back seating, Stiles. 'Cause we're taking my bike," Rue declared. Her tone screamed no arguments. Her bike was faster than Roscoe, or Stiles' jeep. Scott sounded urgent, so they couldn't afford wasting time. She might feel crappy, but she wasn't sick. She pivoted to her left, approached the door, and brandished her keys. She motioned Stiles to follow, exiting the front door. She maneuvered around her front lawn, entered her garage, and approached her sleek black Kawasaki Ninja 250R. She retrieved a helmet from a nearby table, slipped it on, and slung her rucksack-styled bag on her back. She handed Stiles a helmet, mounted her bike, and inserted a key into the ignition. "Hold on tight," she instructed. She didn't offer rides often, so she wasn't use to passengers. However, this time, she couldn't afford being picky.

  Stiles bit his lip as he felt Rue stiffen under his arm. Great, he had crossed the line again. The boy watched her closely, completely sure how she would react. He never wanted to upset her, after everything they have gone through, after everything the whole pack has gone through even. He noticed that yet again she seemed to be deep in thought. He didn't want to keep on asking all of these questions that put her on the spot but maybe it would clear up a few things about the stuff that was going on. He couldn't help but hope that the things happening to him might even become a little clearer, because over the past coupled of weeks, his dreams have become less and less indecipherable. He quickly nodded his head, his fingers stroking her shoulder a little. "No, that's fine." He said gently. Stiles could see the confusion spreading across her head as she wondered. It must have been hard to even suppose that all her childhood with her family, could've all just been a lie. One, big, fat lie. That was something he had hated ever since Scott got bit all those years ago. Everything changed and there were more lies he had to share with his dad and his other normal friends, not that there were many now... He offered the girl a small nod as he listened to what she said. He let out a gentle sigh as he felt her rest her head on his shoulder. It was only know that he realized how much he liked to just be alone with her like this, comforting each other and just talking peacefully with nothing else going on. Of course, that didn't happen a lot, to Stiles' despair. He had began to realize that Rue would only allow him to be this affectionate when she was feeling down, and that was all the more reason to cherish this moment they had together.
  
  
  Stiles glanced away a he saw her scowl. He shouldn't have said that, of course this couldn't be true. It was all just a sick joke from the Nemeton, but why did he have the feeling he had also experienced the haunting scream in one of his own dreams as well? He bit his lip, looking back at her. He offered her a sad smile, one that Rue had gotten to know quite well. He nodded at her assuring comment, but deep inside of him, he knew she was wrong. They couldn't afford another death, but if it did come to that, how could they ever get through it...?
  
  
  Stiles watched as she swallowed. Fuck, he shouldn't have said that either. He didn't like confronting people, even if it was for their own sake. He just wanted to help Rue, find out what was happening to her so that it wasn't that much big of a problem - Until something else went wrong, of course. To be honest, the boy hoped that the girl was human, just like him. It was another thing they had in common, the only thing that separated them from the rest of him. He knew that Rue could protect herself, with her kubaton and her other skills, but with Stiles' - He had nothing, only 147 pounds of pale skin and fragile pounds. That was all he had in the category of defense, apart from his sarcasm of course. Although, even that in the past couple of weeks he had lost. Stiles heard her snapping tone and he looked away, listening closely. The last thing he wanted to do was make her angry. He bit his lip. She had a point though. They shouldn't make things even more bad than they already were. He still felt like if they don't tell them, things might even do the opposite of what they had hoped: worse.
  
  
  Stiles smiled as Rue declared her final decision. "Your dream, your choice." He glanced away as she mentioned Scott. Of course, how could he have even forgotten. If something happened to Allison, the Alpha would never, ever forgive himself. Although they weren't together anymore, they were always looking out for each other and the same with the pack to them. Allison was Scott's first love, and Scott was Allison's first love. That was a bond no one could forget even when they were apart. Stiles, Scott and Allison had began to help each other with their problems in secret, not wanting to include the others so as not to worry them how actually bad it was. Alli's hallucinations were getting worse, Scott was having even more trouble with controlling his True Alpha side and Stiles...well, Stiles was bad.
  
  
  He grew silent as Rue seemed to to the same too after he offered to stay the night. Again, he must have crossed the line. Stiles always worried about things like that, if his friends would ever leave him. He hoped it would never come to that, especially Rue and Scott. He smirked a little, the corners of his mouth curling up as she spoke. "Of course." He chuckled lightly, about to say something more but was interrupted with the familiar ringtone of Rue's phone.
  
  
  Stiles watched as she answered and began to speak to whoever was one the other end. He perked his eyebrows up at her frown in curiosity but then saw her mouthing Scott's name. He nodded, listening to what she was saying. The boy couldn't help but laugh at her scoff and what followed. With everything going on, it was hard for him to relax a little. Everyone has been so serious... He watched as Rue ended the call and pulled away from his grasp. He stood up and nodded as she basically recited what, presumably, Scott had said on the call. He stood there at the bottom of the steps, seeming in awestruck. He was absolutely not in the right clothes to be running but there was no time to go back to his own place and change into more appropriate attire. He threw off his jacket leaving him only in his white shirt.
  
  
  Soon after, Rue rushed down the steps in new clothes and he watched as she packed her bottles into a bag. He smirked at he comment, nodding her head. "Sure, just don't drive like a maniac like last time." He laughed, recalling the time when she had stopped abruptly and caused Stiles fly overhead and fall onto the side of the curb, followed by Rue falling down on top of him. He saw how urgent she seemed to be and he followed her out of the door and into the garage where she kept her bike. He took the helmet, slipping it on his head. It was very tight and of course, it was pink. He didn't have time to complain and he jumped on behind Rue, his hands falling to her waist as he gripped onto her gently.

  If the situation were different, Rue might of laughed. She bought her hot pink helmet as a gag gift for passengers. Specifically, Stiles. Rue maneuvered her motorcycle out of her garage, closed the garage door with a button, and revved down the street. She increased her speed, heading toward the Preserve. Specifically, Mr. Tate's property. She passed moving cars, ignoring occasional stoplights. Despite her speedy driving, Rue maintained complete control over her vehicle. No abrupt stops or extremely sharp turns. Ten minutes later, they arrived at Scott's last known location. She lowered her speed, stopped her bike, and parked it. She removed her helmet, fixed her beanie, and dismounted her bike. She retrieved her keys, propped the kickstand, and placed her helmet on her seat. Rue adjusted her rucksack, brandished her cellphone, and composed a text. "Scott mentioned the others will meet us here," she explained, sending Lydia a message. Minutes later, she received a response. She pocketed her phone, pivoted to her right, and bolted across the yard, heading deeper in the forest.
  
  
  "There're close," Rue announced. She followed a narrow path toward Lydia's coordinates. According to Lydia, they intended using tranquilizers filled with Xylazine, or a strong sedative. They were for Mr. Tate, but if they stumbled across Malia, it might be their second option. Considering her condition, Rue wasn't certain Allison should be shooting. However, she refrained voicing her concerns. If something happened, Rue wouldn't hesitate stepping up. She jumped over logs and weaved past trees, maintaining a steady pace. She glanced over her shoulder, noticing Stiles following her. When she confessed her dream, she omitted a crucial detail. Her physical condition was improving. Senses, speed, agility, endurance - you name it. It paled in comparison to her werewolf friends, but would it increase? If she wasn't human, would it grow stronger? Rue captured a glimpse of familiar strawberry blonde and slowed her pace. She spotted Lydia, Isaac, and Allison. She scanned her surroundings, searching for Scott.
  
  
  "Scott went after Malia," Lydia elaborated, noticing Rue's scoping.
  
  
  She nodded. "What's the plan here? Do you know where Scott is?" Rue inquired.
  
  
  Isaac shook his head. "I tried calling him. It went to voicemail," he replied.
  
  
  A frown marred her lips. "We need to locate Mr. Tate. With him out of the picture, Scott can help Malia," Rue pointed out.
  
  
  He rubbed the back of his neck. "I been tracking his scent. We need to move before I lose it again," Isaac announced.
  
  
  "What about the doll?" Lydia interjected.
  
  
  Rue arched an eyebrow. "The doll?" she intoned.
  
  
  Lydia huffed. "Why is the doll important to Malia?" she explained.
  
  
  She recalled the doll fiasco at school. Kira attempted returning the boys' backpacks, but was attacked by Malia. Well, chased, but if it weren't for Scott, she would of been attacked. Everything pinpointed to the doll. Why was it important? With so much shit happening, Rue didn't have an answer. Problem solving was Stiles' forte, not hers. She wasn't incompetent, but she wasn't a genius either. A fight? No problem! However, a complicated situation requiring accurate solutions? Not her cup of tea. "I dunno, but we got to move fast. Can you track his scent still?" Rue replied, directing her comment to Isaac.
  
  
  Isaac nodded. "This way," he answered. He pivoted to his left and jogged down a leafy trail, following the scent of Mr. Tate. He increased his speed, claiming he spotted Mr. Tate.
  
  
  Rue assumed Isaac used his supernatural sight. She, along with Stiles, Lydia, and Allison, followed Isaac. Unbeknownst to Rue, she wasn't aware of the excess bear traps scattered across the land, courtesy of Mr. Tate. She attempted catching up to Isaac, but the forest terrain was uneven. Suddenly, a pained howl resonated off the trees. Her heart spiked with fear. "Isaac!" she hollered, concern coloring her voice. Oh god, did Isaac get shot? Unless the bullets were silver or laced with wolfsbane, they weren't fatal, but a single head shot could make a difference. Fearing her friend's safety, she didn't pay attention to the ground below. She moved closer, spotting Isaac crumpled on the ground meters away.
  
  
  "Isaac, are you a-" She cut herself off,
  
  
  Shh - Clink.
  
  
  Pain exploded in her left ankle, eliciting a bloodcurdling scream. Rue collapsed on the ground, landing on her right side. She lifted her head and inspected her ankle. Her eyes widened in horror. Her left ankle was caught in a bear trap ... a freaking bear trap! Fortunately, the teeth were small, but the pain was excruciating. Blood welled from her puncture wounds, pooling on the dirt below. Rue refrained moving her ankle, fearing it would worsen the damage. She wasn't certain the trap broken her ankle, but she didn't dare assess it. "Oh my god," Rue rasped, fighting back a whimper. Pain-inducing tears pricked at her eyes. She bit her lip, fighting back a scream. She shifted her head, staring at Isaac. He returned her gaze, concern swirling inside his baby blue hues. She attempted smiling, assuring everything was alright. However, her smile twisted into a grimace.
  
  
  "You alright?" Isaac questioned.
  
  
  Rue gnashed her teeth. "Everything's peachy," she countered. All of the sudden, Stiles, Lydia, and Allison arrived. She didn't realize how far Isaac and her ran ahead. Allison rushed to Isaac. Lydia, including Stiles, crowded around her. Rue shifted and laid on her back, wincing from the tugging sensation on her left ankle. She breathed in deeply and exhaled through her nostrils. Her growing hysteria wouldn't improve her situation. She needed to remain calm. White hot pain surged through her veins, evoking a whimper. Rue bit her fist, swallowing a pained shout. She had her share of accidents, but this was ridiculous. Why didn't Scott warn her about the bear traps? Or Lydia, Allison, and Isaac? Fuck, she blamed herself for not asking. Or paying attention. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Rue removed her rucksack, opened it, and retrieved a water bottle. A familiar sensation washed over her, alerting her craving. If she neglected it, it would worsen her situation.
  
  
  "What happened?" Lydia demanded. She inspected her friend's ankle, assessing the damage. They needed to remove the trap quick or Rue would bleed out.
  
  
  "Y'know, same ol', same ol'. Chasing a Werecoyote and getting caught in bear traps," Rue snarked.
  
  
  She raised her perfectly arched eyebrow, not impressed with her friend's sass. "Honey, the attitude isn't helping," Lydia pointed out.
  
  
  She unscrewed the lid and guzzled her water, easing her agitated nerves. She wiped the back of her mouth with her hand, screwed her lid shut, and stashed her bottle inside her bag. "Can you remove it?" Rue questioned.
  
  
  Lydia stared at her best friend, noticing the fear inside her golden brown eyes. "Removing it by force could worsen your condition. There's disarming instructions on the device," she answered. She leaned over and attempted reading them, but Rue's ankle obscured the words. "I need to move your ankle. Stiles, read them to me," she instructed. Based from Stiles' position, he could read them better. She grasped Rue's ankle, avoiding the blood staining her skinny jeans. She raised it lightly, ignoring Rue's pained whimper.
  
  
  Rue released a shaky breath. "I think my ankle is broken," she muttered.
  
  
  "It might be," Lydia confirmed. She averted her attention to Stiles. "Can you read the instructions?" she asked. If Stiles couldn't, she might be forced to elevate Rue's ankle. One wrong move and the teeth could sever a major vein or artery.

  Stiles had to grip a little tighter on Rue's waist as she began to speed up. The speed that she was going on was now humanly possible. It was faster than the girl had ever done before, all the times he himself had rode with her especially. But the most thing was, it felt almost like a actual car ride since it was so smooth and controlled. The wind kept on blowing Rue's hair into his face, but he didn't mind. He had a chance to be more close with her, only the bag on her back was separating them. Unfortunately, for Stiles, they had gotten to their destination in what felt like a minute. He slipped off his helmet, climbing off backwards so that Rue would be able to as well. He ran his hand through his hair, dropping the pink helmet by the girl's one. He watched as she took out his phone, Stiles also taking out his own. He scrolled through his voicemail until he reached Scott, clicking the 'call' button. The boy nodded at Rue's explanation. His call to his best-friend went to voicemail, but it seemed the girl knew where the others were.
  
  
  He tried to keep up with Rue as she sped through the path, jumping over logs and avoiding branches. He didn't want to admit this, but he was struggling to keep up with er. Whether it was because he was getting weaker or because Rue's supernatural qualities were awakened, he wasn't sure yet. It worried him that the girl had no idea what was happening to her, but he promised that he would do his own research. Scott had told him the plan yesterday and everything seemed alright to him. Soon enough, they came to a clearing and spotted the rest of the pack a little further up.
  
  
  Once they reached them, he nodded his head in greeting. After hearing that Scott had went after Malia, he couldn't help but feel a little worried. With him troubling to control his Alpha side, Stiles didn't want him to hurt Malia.
  
  
  "I tried calling as well." He said, turning to Isaac. "Voicemail also."
  
  
  Stiles agreed with the others. If they could track down Mr. Tate, whilst Scott was taking care of Malia, they might actually have a chance. Worst case scenario: Scott and Malia bring the fight back to the Tate's property.
  
  
  "Why is the doll important to Malia?"
  
  
  Stiles had actually been thinking about this for a while. It still didn't make complete sense to him. He felt a little guilty about the whole school attack thing. It was his fault after all, stealing the doll. He had apologized to Kira afterwards anyway. "Scott and I found it by the crash, where her family died. Her den was a near that, almost as if she was protecting it for some reason." He bit his lip, trying to think of the other things he had thought about, but then the realization hit him."Wait..."
  
  
  "The doll is acting as memorial 'flower'! Malia placed it there to grieve of her sister's death and then since we moved it, she wanted it back!" There was no time to discuss it more and they needed to move fast.
  
  
  Both Isaac and Rue began to speed off. Stiles glanced at Lydia and Allison in confusion: Rue was running just as fast as the Beta. He shook it off, beginning to run after them. He heard Isaac saying he spotted Mr. Tate and that was all the more reason to catch up with them. The three ran as fast as the could, but then a mighty howl came from up ahead. He heard Rue yelling Isaac's and that boosted their adrenaline and stamina. Stiles then heard Rue's tone of voice screaming and that caused him to bolt on up ahead, rushing on ahead even more.
  
  
  "Oh my god." Stiles stared down at Isaac and Rue, immediately crouching down by his best-friend. His eyes and voice was filled with concern and worry. He glanced at Rue's ankle, the blood pouring down on the leaves around them.
  
  
  Stiles didn't know what to do as he listened to Lydia and Rue converse. He stared down at Rue, his hand crawling to hers and he squeezed gently. He watched as Lydia leaned over and tried to read the words on the device...oh, wait. Fuck. The boy already seemed panicked as he heard Lydia command him to read the instructions.
  
  
  "Why would someone even put instructions on here?" Stiles said, his voice shaky with anxiety.
  
  
  Lydia sighed. "Because animals can't read, Stiles." She glanced at him, confused as to why he wasn't. "C'mon, the instructions."
  
  
  The boy bites his lip, examining the bear trap closely. "Just...just give me a second." Stiles was taking very sharp breathes now as he continued to look at the trap, the panic still flooding his eyes. Come on, Stiles. Think!
  
  
  Stiles quickly figured it out, his hand going into the side of the mechanism and began to unscrew one of the metal parts. He didn't care if he got Rue's blood on his hands. All that mattered now was to save her. As he unscrewed it, all of a sudden the bear trap just collapsed. The two parts that had the teeth on them fell onto Rue's leg, letting her escape.
  
  
  Lydia and the boy carefully pulled her leg out and rested it on the ground. The strawberry-blonde walked away to go and help Allison and Isaac, leaving Stiles and Rue alone.

  Are you okay?
  
  
  A pained scream elicited from her throat, feeling the trap's teeth retract from her delicate ankle. Rue gripped Stiles' hand, biting her lip harshly. A single pain-inducing tear slid down her face. She breathed in deeply and exhaled shakily. She could feel her blood gushing from her wound. A thick pool of dark liquid accumulated underneath her ankle, staining her combat boot and lower half pant leg. Damn, she loved her burgundy jeans, including her boots. "Peachy," she rasped. She fumbled for her rucksack, retrieving a water bottle with shaky hands. She unscrewed the lid, sipped it, and wiped the back of her mouth with her hand. She shifted and rested her head on Stiles' lap. A wave of dizziness washed over her, courtesy of blood loss. She needed medical treatment or she would bleed out. Suddenly, a powerful roar reverberated among the trees, chilling her core. She recognized it immediately. An Alpha call. Scott's call. Her eyes shimmered a brilliant sea green, but vanished a split second, resuming a warm brown. "I think Scott will be fine," she commented, referring to Scott's difficulties controlling his Alpha side. She remembered the former Alpha twins attempting teaching Scott. Similar to Isaac, she loathed the twins. They might be useful, but they tried killing her friends. They killed Erica and Boyd. Not directly, but they didn't stop the others and watched. Rue doubted she would forgive them. She was notorious for her grudges.
  
  
  "My ankle's becoming numb," Rue muttered. Her leg throbbed, but a numbing sensation coursed through her veins. Perhaps, it was her body's natural supply of endorphins? She continued drinking her water, avoiding looking at her mangled ankle. She didn't faint at the sight of blood, but she might vomit at the sight of her torn ankle. It had to be broken. She lifted her gaze, staring at her best friend's cinnamon brown hues. Concern swirled inside his eyes. She produced a small, pained grin. "We survived a Alpha pack, Stiles. I think I can survive a bear trap," she assured. She gripped his left hand, lacing their fingers together. She shifted her head, inspecting her additional friends. Isaac removed his ankle from the trap. Too much blood covered his pant leg. She wasn't certain if his wound healed completely, but she doubted it was mangled. Fuck, supernatural healing sounded amazing right now. Perhaps, she would develop highly accelerated healing?
  
  
  "Shit, are you alright?" a familiar voice inquired.
  
  
  Rue craned her neck back, spotting Scott looming over her fallen form. Concern swirled inside his chocolate brown eyes. She averted her gaze, noticing a dirty girl standing next to Scott. A pretty, naked girl wearing Scott's jacket, providing minimal modesty. If the situation were different, she might of executed a perfect snarky comment. "'M fine, Scotty. I see you found Malia," she replied. Said girl stared at Rue's bloody ankle with indifference. Her deadpanned gaze was tad unsettling, but she ignored it. After years in the woods, it would take Malia awhile to adjust.
  
  
  Scott scratched the back of his neck. "Yeah ... we need to get you to the hospital," he pointed out. A frown marred his lips, noticing Rue's paled skin. A sickly pallor replaced her healthy glow. "Now," he added. Without another word, he crouched down, grasped her hand, and pulled her up. All of the sudden, she stiffened. His eyebrows furrowed in response. What was wrong? "Rue-" he cut himself off, witnessing her uncanny gaze. Her eyes were wide and unfocused, as if she was under a trance. Her grip on his hand tightened. To the point it was painful.
  
  
  When Scott grasped her hand, something inside her snapped. As if his presence triggered her (possible) creature side. Perhaps, it was his Alpha status. Maybe it was his connections. Before she could react, a strange force possessed her, crushing her free will. "The storm is coming," Rue recited ominously. After she uttered her statement, her eyes rolled back in her head. She collapsed against Stiles' lap, passing out from blood loss. Her water bottle slipped from her hands, rolling on the forest ground. Water poured from the opened bottle, soaking the leaves.

  Stiles was still breathing very heavily even after Rue was safe from the bear trap. If he didn't know how to work out how to undo trap himself, he wasn't sure what they would've done. They could've lifted her leg slightly but that would've caused the girl so much pain, it would've been unbearable. It was all his fault. He didn't know what was happening to his brain, why he couldn't muster up the letters in the right order. He felt like he was losing his mind. When the teeth pulled away from Rue's skin, he winced as he heard her scream loudly and felt her hand grip his own tightly. Stiles watched, looking as if he was the one in pain as he did so. He saw the blood rushing out of the wounds by her ankles and he quickly tore of a part of his shirt's sleeve, immediately wrapping it around her tightly. "Rue, I'm so sorry if this hurts." He said softly, applying pressure onto the make-shift bandage with his spare hand, tying it afterwards at the back. He looked at her face, wiping away a tear that had rolled down her cheek. Stiles couldn't help but smile slightly as she replied to his question, his hand gently cupping her cheek slightly before moving it away quickly. The boy heard the roar and it sent shivers down his spine. Scott. He glanced back at Rue and his eyes widened as he saw the girl's eyes glow a beautiful sea-green color. "You...your eyes?! He bit his lip as he squeezed her hand tightly like before. He had no idea what just happened or what it meant, but he knew that right now was not the time.
  
  
  He shook his head from his thoughts, turning his attention back to Rue. He applied some more pressure to her ankle. "It's probably just the blood-loss. Once we're ready to leave, I'll take you to the hospital as soon as we can." Stiles held the bottom of her water bottle, helping her drink. He knew that if whatever she was is water related, then the cool liquid should give her some strength. Stiles offered her a small smile at her grin, although it was obvious he was still concerned. He looked down at their hands as they intertwined, feeling his cheeks heat up slightly. His thumb gently rubbed her palm, loving the feeling of her skin.
  
  
  "Shit, are you alright?"
  
  
  Stiles' hands pulled away from Rue's. He didn't know why but when he heard the familiar voice, it felt like someone was invading their privacy. "Scott." He glanced to and from the covered up girl behind him. Stiles stood up and nodded to Malia. She must be feeling pretty overwhelmed right now, being in her human form after so long. He pulled off his one sleeved jacket and passed it to her. The girl covered herself the best she could so that only her legs were visible. He turned to Rue and crouched down beside her again.
  
  
  He nodded at Scott's suggestion. Stiles noticed her paled skin and he remembered the way her glowing eyes from earlier made it even more paler. He watched as he lifted her arm,pulling her body gently up. He was about to stand up and help but his eyebrows perked as he saw her stiffen, almost as if all her muscles were tensing up. "Wha-" The panic from earlier reappeared in his eyes after seeing her staring into the nothingness. Stiles looked down at where their hands connected, noticing that Rue's hands were turning white as she gripped tightly.
  
  
  Stiles had no idea what to do, yet again. The look covering the girl's face scared him, almost as if something was happening to her but the pain originated from the inside. Stiles realized that that seemed to be happening to himself.
  
  
  "The storm is coming."
  
  
  Stiles eye's widened again as he tried to process what she had said. It was her voice, but it didn't sound like her at all. He didn't understand, feeling her soft body fall against his lap. He watched as she turned into an unconscious state, everything around him going silent. It seemed like the world was slowing down as for that one split second: He had thought she was dead.
  
  
  "Quickly!" Stiles yelled, the urgency seeping through to his voice. "We have to get her to the hospital now!"
  
  
  His voice sent everyone into motion: Scott picked up Rue's motionless body and sped off running to the hospital since he had left his motorbike at the other side of the preserve, Isaac followed the Alpha, both Lydia and Allison went to go and take care of Malia and what did Stiles do? He was useless. He couldn't run after the werewolves with super speed, he would've gotten there an hour late if he had tried. He helplessly ran over to Rue's bike, jumping on and began to ride as fast as he could in the direction of the hospital.
  
  
  
  
  
  Whilst he rode, the thumping headache came back and he felt something tugging into his brain, almost as if it was bashing at a door. Then he remembered what Deaton had said: The door to his brain had been opened after the sacrifice, and something was trying to get in.

  "We have to get her to the hospital now!"
  
  
  Faint voices washed over her. Stiles. Scott. Rue lifted her right hand, reaching for the light. She attempted to move, but her feet wouldn't budge. Desperation plastered on her expression. Her warm brown eyes brimmed with unshed tears. "Stiles ... Help me," she whispered. Tears slid down her sickly pale face, dripping on the ground. However, her droplets glimmered underneath the brilliant light.
  
  
  Ping. Ping. Ping.
  
  
  One by one, her tears transformed into pristine black pearls. Rue didn't notice the transformation. Her attention remained on the tunnel. Suddenly, it vanished. Her heart clenched painfully. No ... No, No, No! Rue collapsed on her knees and clawed at the ground. A sob escaped her lips. She pressed a hand against her mouth, suppressing her cries. Her free hand grazed a black pearl, capturing her attention. She lowered her gaze, noticing a plethora of pearls. She picked up a black pearl and inspected it. Somehow, despite the darkness, she could see. The pearl reminded her of a raven's wing. Splashes of emerald green, dark purple, and midnight blue blended within the pearl's black hue. Confusion adorned her face. Where did the pearls come from?
  
  
  "Sleep, my sweet jewel. Sleep," a voice whispered.
  
  
  Her eyes drooped. Rue struggled maintaining consciousness, but she collapsed, surrounded by a sea of pearls.
  
  
  { Present }
  
  
  By the time Scott arrived at the hospital, Rue was deathly pale. After he flagged down his mother, he placed Rue on a gurney provided. His hands and shirt were bloodied, courtesy applying pressure on Rue's ankle. He watched his mother wheel Rue away, praying he arrived in time. Malia was escorted to Sheriff Stilinski, who reunited Malia with her father. Scott scrubbed a hand over his face, ignoring the blood caking his skin. Rue's blood. A clean rag entered his line of vision. He lifted his head, spotting Lydia. Her expression remained composed, but he witnessed fear in her emerald green eyes.
  
  
  "She'll be fine," Lydia assured.
  
  
  Scott accepted the rag and wiped his face, removing the blood. "I should of warned her. She didn't know," he replied, guilt seeping in his tone.
  
  
  Lydia sat next to Scott. "You were busy catching Malia. She won't blame you," she pointed out.
  
  
  He heaved a sigh. "I know," Scott replied. Rue might crack a few snarky jibes, but she wouldn't blame him. When he joined Deucalion, she was pissed, but she understood his reasoning. Underneath her sarcasm and stubbornness, Rue was one of the most selfless people he knew. She helped others, but never required anything in return. She placed people's needs above her own. Her optimism and compassion reflected his own, but she could differentiate good people from the bad. In a way, she was a perfect blend of Stiles and him. The glue in their former trio. Now, she was injured ... again. According to Isaac, she was rushing to his aid, ignoring her surroundings. Sometimes, her selflessness was annoying. Yet, it made Rue Rue.
  
  
  "Where's Allison and Isaac?" Scott inquired.
  
  
  Lydia crossed her legs. "Isaac wanted to change his pants. The large blood stain on his ankle would attract attention. Allison volunteered to join him. They'll be here later," she answered.
  
  
  Scott opened his mouth to speak, but spotted his mother approaching them. He rose into a standing position. "How is she?" he questioned.
  
  
  "She's stable. Her ankle is broken and there's damage to her tendons, but no major arteries were punctured. She required a blood transfusion, but she'll be fine," Melissa explained.
  
  
  Relief coursed through him. "Thank you," Scott replied. He glanced over his mother's shoulder. "Can we see her?" he added.
  
  
  Melissa nodded. "She's unconscious, so you'll have to be quiet," she warned.
  
  
  { Deep Within Her Mind }
  
  
  "Wake up," a voice whispered. "Wake up, little jewel," she soothed.
  
  
  Her eyes snapped open. Rue rose into a sitting position. A familiar tree stump was rooted in front of her. She scanned her surroundings, expecting a forest. However, her eyes met water. Lots and lots of water. Recognition reflected her golden brown eyes. Pool water. She was sitting at the bottom of ... her high school's pool? Realization dawned on her expression. Shit! She couldn't - a voice cut off her train of thought.
  
  
  "Relax, sweetheart. Water cannot harm you. Breath," her mother's voice instructed.
  
  
  Despite her instincts, she breathed in deeply. Instead of choking on water, her lungs filled with air. She ... she was breathing underwater? How? A prickling sensation washed over her, spanning from her head and ending at her toes. She raised her arms and inspected her hands. Her breath hitched in response. Patches of iridescent scales peppered her fair skin. She glanced at her body. Her former attire was replaced with a two-piece white bikini. More scales manifested on her lithe form, shimmering underneath the fluorescent lights. Panic clawed at her chest. What was happening to her? Why did she feel satisfied? A comforting hand draped on Rue's shoulder, shattering her anxiety-filled thoughts.
  
  
  "Do not be afraid, darling. This is normal. Soon, your transformation will be complete," Nozomi announced, appearing beside her daughter.
  
  
  "W-What transformation? Is this real?" Rue inquired.
  
  
  Her smile widened. "It will be," Nozomi revealed. She stroked her daughter's face, grazing her cheekbone. "It will be," she repeated softly.
  
  
  Rue leaned against her mother's touch. Unlike last time, her mother's hand was warm. "What am I? Why didn't you tell me?" she questioned.
  
  
  Her warm brown eyes - the same eyes Rue inherited - saddened. "I wanted to," Nozomi confessed. She lowered her hand and gripped her daughter's shoulder. "You were meant to know," she continued.
  
  
  She swallowed a lump in her threat. Rue missed her mother's warmth. "W-What am I?" she repeated.
  
  
  Nozomi leaned forward and pecked her daughter's forehead. "Something wonderful, my sweet jewel. Others will tell you otherwise, but what you are doesn't define you. Remember that," she pointed out.
  
  
  "I was meant to know ... what happened?" Rue asked. She recalled her conversation with Stiles. "Does father know?" she pressed.
  
  
  Suddenly, her mother's expression darkened. "He knows," Nozomi confirmed. She retracted her hand from her daughter's shoulder. "They all know," she added. Her features distorted, becoming somewhat grotesque. "They all know," she hissed angrily. Her cold tone contradicted from her previous motherly demeanor.
  
  
  Rue flinched, suppressing the urge to inch away. "Who are they?" she countered. She stared at her mother, waiting for an answer. Nozomi returned her daughter's gaze. Her golden brown hues illuminated a brilliant sea green.
  
  
  "Alan Deaton will pay for what he has done," Nozomi elaborated.
  
  
  She froze. Deaton ... knew? Regardless of his expansive knowledge concerning the Supernatural realm, it shocked her. Deaton, a man she respected, lied to her. Her relationship with her father wasn't pleasant, so he wasn't surprising. However, Deaton was different. She trusted him. He was her mentor. Why ... How was he involved? Why was her mother angry? What did he do?
  
  
  Her features softened, noticing her daughter's state. "Rest, my darling," Nozomi murmured, stroking her daughter's hair.
  
  
  Rue attempted to speak, but her eyes drooped. Darkness surrounded her, lulling her to sleep.
