Exalted Third Edition

Rykon

Five Thousand Club
Hey guys, I'm looking to run an Exalted Third Edition game using the backer pdf rules. Particular locale and focus are completely up to player vote. I am looking to try and stick with 5 players, but may allow more if the demand is there.

EDIT:

House Rules

I have a few minor house rules for 3rd Edition.

Character Generation will be standard character generation with the following modifications:

  • The Martial Artist Merit does not need to be purchased to learn martial arts
  • Bonus Points at chargen are equal to 60 instead of 15, but use the experience cost table instead
  • Characters start with 13 merit points and may use them to take merits above rating 3 (Though I may disallow over concentration of merits)
  • Characters pay half the points to raise a Craft or Martial Art ability score so long as they have another respective sub-ability at a higher value (ie having a high craft in one area will make it easier to pick up other craft skills, same with martial arts, the two will not intermingle)

Retracted

  • Artifact weapons count as piercing against mundane armor and halves stamina for soak purposes of non-magical opponents, Artifact Armor reduces minimum damage of mundane weapons/attacks by 1 to a minimum of 0
  • There are a few minor tweaks to numbers for weapon tables coming soon

Mortal Weapons

Category Accuracy Damage Defense Overwhelming Attunement
Light 4 6 0 1 -
Medium 2 9 1 2 -
Heavy 0 12 0 3 -

Artifact Weapons

I would like to throw my hat in the ring... Hopefully I can get more then a few posts into a game with Aranni, Bestest Dawn Caste Ever.

Any thoughts for what style or location you guys might want to explore? Seems there are a lot of interesting new venues to chose from.

Something either far enough away from the Realm that they wont be a problem, or right on their doorstep so they're constantly a problem.

Haven't had a chance to read through everything, so I'll withhold input for now.

With Triforce Heroes and Halo 5 releasing within the next few days, I may seem scarce this weekend, but I'd like to get started shortly after getting backgrounds and character sheets sorted out. As soon as we are full on players and have a general direction and goals in mind, I can start plotting out an outline. As things stand though, the antagonists look fairly easy to run within the system without exhaustive study of the whole book.

Can I please throw my hat in? Always wanted to play an Exalted Game but never could for various reasons. Thinking of playing a Zenith.

I can dig me some Exalted 3rd...Though I may need a bit of time to hash through a character....So many ideas

I would love to play in a game. I have the backer PDF now and have been looking for a steady game. I would play an Eclipse or I can really fit any role. May take me a few days to read the book cover to cover as I study quite a bit nowadays.

I'm interested as well, and approve of your house rules!

Though, regarding using xp instead of bp, it really doesn't change much when the base dots still work the same. If you really want to have xp-based chargen, you need everything to be xp-based.

I know it won't completely get rid of the optimization mini-game that's generally present in white wolf games. I've a tad bit of OCD, in addition to an accounting background, so for me atleast, I find this gives me just the right amount of freedom to have a good balanced character without having to resist the compulsion to have a lopsided set of ability scores (all 5s and 1s) and makes top heavy attribute schemes a little more managable as XP "lost" for an even spread in attribute groups is still absurd.

There are many builds. If you want to specialize, there's a banquet of choices for you. If you want to be the generalist Eclipse, that's a legitimate play strategy. For the hyperspecialist, Supernal is your drug. There's a lot of really great stuff and unlike 2e, there's not "dump" abilities anymore. The fighting system works well, sorcery works great as augmenting a battle instead of leaving you to the mercies of whatever you're fighting and it doesn't leave you SOL and empty on motes. It is way simpler in play and you'll wonder why you even thought the battle system was more complicated. It's got more moving parts, but the parts work way better than 2 and 2.5e.

I've already got a fairly generalist Eclipse I play in a game with some friends. Supernal larceny is good stuff.

As for my experience with the mechanics, I agree 100%. I find myself struggling with which abilities I want to prioritize over others simply because everything is useful. I was satisfied when I was finally able to reign things in and come up with a blend that makes narrative sense without offending the inner investment maximizer tendencies.

Looks like you already have six, but pm me if people drop and you don't hit your quota of five in the end. 3e is a ton of fun and I'm always up for more of that.

Using this in another game, but I quite like the character idea so I am going with it :P

Nellens "Hopeful Whisper" Seeryn

inquisitor_diplomat_by_vinogradovalex-d6ccsi4.jpg

a bit modern, maybe without the hipster hat
I had so much untapped potential.

I was my families potential.

Born the first of my families line into the Dynasts of the northern portion of the Northern portion of The Blessed Isle, I was to be one of the first in my families legacy to enter into one of the great houses. My father was a very influential and wealthy man, making such a large enterprise that the weaker blooded House of Nellens decided the influence was more important then the already further weakening of their lines blood. My mother was defiant to the proposal but knew it was for the best for her House, she was a tough politician to the end.

My potential of the two parents and their tutelage would be astronomical to me being raised by them. The only thing was, when I was conceived into this political matrimony I was born mute.

I spent many of my non-conversational years simply writing and reading. What business did a woman have talking to people, even in sign, when she could not meet the grueling potential that could have been. The stigma of being a useless diplomat to her parents and society, what was the point? However, at least I had riches far beyond those around me. I was not a slave and I was not a simple popper. I could have anything I wanted, so in that sense my life has potential to do great things, perhaps write great plays or bureaucratic papers was still very much on the table. The schools I attended unlocked a lot of my understanding of political and economic systems, I was somewhat of a savant since I simply kept to my studies.

Some said that even though I could not speak, I would be one of my families greatest assets simply by the words I wrote on paper.

I had so much ahead of me.

That is until the day I turned 20, a year after the Scarlet Empress disappeared, my family and I took a trip as we always had that year to a well-visited natural reserve, the few that still remained in The Realm. We were attacked by bandits, my family slaughtered and only I remained. These were not ordinary rough folk however, they were organized, very organized. I was taken to a camp that had previously been dispossessed by the Empress herself. Any Dragon-Blooded who walked through there could have their fair share of roughing up this place with their awesome might, as by her decree this small town was lower then slaves.

Through my writings and hurried sign language, of which none of them understood, I finally translated that I could help them with their enterprise in order to spare my life. So there I was, the next 4 years writing documents for the criminal underground wheeling deals behind the scenes through letter and even sometimes poetry to exchange drugs and other illegal magical artifacts, just to stay alive. Even though I was pretty much a slave, I was slowly treated with respect and even a mentor to those who had been in the illegal trade for much longer then I.

While I could never forgive the men and women that slaughtered my family and held me here, I could find piece that I was once again finding a place I could be useful. I had so much hope to perhaps even take over this sad hole that was dispossessed.

I could have been a criminal mastermind.

Then, a Dragon-Blooded came from house Tepet. He demanded the whereabouts of an Anathema. No one had any idea. The man stood there with fire in his eyes and smoke that rolled out of his mouth. He became angry. One by one and slowly dozen by dozen the Dragon-Blooded cruel murdered all the bandits, brigands and illegal dealers in the town. My town. I had been here for 4 years. I was finally going to become something, someone!

I am my own potential. The Unconquered Sun gave it back to me.

With a strong heart I pointed at the towering Prince of Earth in my ragged clothing and my random jewels I had collected over the years. For the first time in my life I could feel something roaring inside me, it began in my stomach and slowly crawled its way into my throat and like a gout of flame I spoke words, for I was no longer mute. I had to the trumpets of the Unconquered Sun at my side. "SILENCE YOURSELF! You are nothing but a beast in a princes's clothing!" I said with a glowing fire of gold and power surrounding me. They all went to their knee, the Dragon-Blooded, not wanting to bow down but also not wanting to take on the might of the Sun one on one fled. The entire country side did as I asked for a moment. It seemed the fires and the screams went as mute as I used to be.

Though no one told me I was a child of the Sun, somehow I knew I certainly was not a Dragon-Blooded. With that logic I left the Blessed Isle as fast as my feet could fly, and they could fly fast indeed! So here I am, hiding away creating small miracles in a time of rot and dilapidation. But at least now I can meet my true potential and help others reach theirs in this Time of Tumult.

Excuse me, Rykon? Where in Creation will this game take place?

Got two Zenith Concepts I've come up with, but they are Direction focused:

- Kai, Son of the Western Waves: All about ripping the West away from the Realm and restoring its glory.

- Skies Above: Southerner, former Delzahn, wants to take over the Guild.

Location is up to you guys

Edit: I spoke with rettie, and looks like he s goin supernal survival, probably Zenith. West may not be the best bet, bit it could still work with some effort.

Oh? What does that entail?

Also, what's everyone else playing? Twilight's usually my first port of call then Zenith, Night, Dawn, and Eclipse.

Ehhh, I'm really waffling. I wanna play a 3rd ed game so much, but I wanna try it as written before heavily diving into house rules.

Curious on why all the adjustments for the weapons table and the piercing bit though.

*continues waffling*

If the party ends up sans a dawn caste, I have a concept there as well. Mostly one that involves athletics charms and giant axes. As for the Survivalist, I'm getting a very Druidic vibe from the character. Will post more on them as they develop.
