Okay. Acekara will burn through your willpower fairly quickly at this rate. Are you okay with NPCs using aggressive social influence on Atusa?

From here on I'll make sure to give you the opportunity to stunt Resolve/leverage intimacies/spend essence boosting it unless you tell me you're not going to be using your Integrity Excellency. Raksha are really good at breaking people down, so every opportunity to preserve WP or regain it with stunts is crucial, and the answer to honeyed words is often to cut out the enemy's tongue as fast as possible.

Yeah, I'm okay with it. And thanks for the advice. This is pretty much my first serious encounter with Raksha.

Not that Atusa will necessarily know this or figure this out, but has Acekara tangled with one of her previous incarnations in the past?

Several of them, actually. Acekara is old, old. I think you mentioned you wanted your last incarnation to have been involved in Achaea back in the First Age, so some of the Gods, ancient Elementals, and Raksha will recognize your exaltation. She was here then, but it was only the most recent of many incarnations she met. She's a teensy bit obsessed with you, for a variety of reasons. You disappearing for over two thousand years hasn't done much to dampen that. Whatever she was supposed to be doing here went out the window when she recognized you.

I might have said something along those lines, yes.

One idea I did have - for Atusa and the Faqari - was that the Faqari could once have been a great settled empire at some point during the First Age, before circumstances turned them into the semi-nomadic people they are today, with one of Atusa's incarnations being the empire's founder and/or one of its greatest rulers. I think that if Atusa could prove that she was the reincarnation of this Solar, it would give her a bit more legitimacy when it comes to claiming rulership over the Faqari.

Also, with regards to the current scene, I'm thinking of trying to persuade Acekara to have a one-on-one fight with Atusa, and was wondering what level of task this would be for her.

For the first bit, yes, that's all true.

Oh, tricky!

The level of the task would depend on the stakes. Her attitude towards the suggestion is complex, and gets into things Atusa doesn't know but I don't mind revealing OOC. This is the sort of stuff you'd learn with a successful Read Intentions. Acekara's primary motivation this scene is to cause Atusa to feel some kind of strong emotion towards her. She doesn't really care what it is, and is willing to pay a very high price to succeed. As a consequence, if you want her to fight you in a duel to the death on your ship, that's difficult. On the one hand that's expressing personal interest in her, and she gets all of your attention, which she likes. On the other hand, she doesn't actually want to kill you, and she's been killed by you often enough the novelty has worn thin. A duel doesn't inherently cause you to feel anything towards her, and it cuts off her options for making you hate her by harming your people. In her value system your hatred, love, fear, lust, etc are all equally and incredibly valuable, and she'll take all she can get. Atusa's disdain is an annoying obstacle - she can't feed off of that.

So if you were to suggest you duel her to first yield, and if she wins she gets a kiss (an obvious trap, as Atusa has already surmised from Hematti folklore) she's more likely to take that bargain because that's risky (she knows you're probably a better single combatant than she is) but playing for all the marbles. You could ask her to wager pretty much anything you want, so long as it doesn't keep her away from you for too long. She will hunt you relentlessly if she isn't permanently destroyed or somehow dissuaded.

I must have missed that alert. Thanks for tagging me! IC post coming up.

Rolling to prevent the Disengage effort.
Oops! I didn't mean Renna could contest this disengage. Renna and the Ruby Bey are still at Medium Range, and you must be at Close Range to contest a Disengage. Neither of them have moved relative to each other, only Morrolan has been charging at the Ruby Bey.

Renna has to actually close with it to contest future Disengage attempts, but you could retroactively declare you moved closer to it on your last turn to put you at Short Range in preparation to rush it on your turn coming up now.

I see. At the moment, Renna is planning on letting Morrolan deal with the big guy while she continues to dig into the Din.

So disregard my roll for the contested action, please.

Do I need to make another Join Battle roll? Or do we continue with the same initiative we had earlier?

I was just planning to carry on, but if you feel it would be advantageous to you we can do a new round of JB.

Talk about burning essence. Still, better safe than sorry I suppose.

Hmm. I might be wrong, but wouldn't Acekara only go down to 9i? Atusa only did one point of damage to her.

Indeed - post should reflect that. I think you caught it just before I edited my mistake. If Atusa attacks this will be a clash. Since you're both using paired weapons you both get +2 to the attack.

Oh, and the -2 penalty for the Acekara's control of the ground applies to attack rolls as well unless you have a penalty negator. It didn't have any effect on your last roll, though. The extra damage die was a miss.
