Active [Eraza / Refara's Sound] Horny Rumours

This RP is part of the Isekai Hell setting. It is currently not open to be joined.

What to expect out of character:
Let's try to keep it weekly at its slowest. Preferably faster where possible. Total duration will depend on the pace. Let's aim for between 1 month and 2 months.

Type of RP will be mostly social/interaction. Focus of RP will be on interactions between characters and later on NPCs.

What to expect in character:
Having safely led the villagers of Erithis and into Eraza, Ceylan and Siegfried find themselves helping out for a few days. Only to start hearing more and more talk about a rather interesting rumour concerning a Unicorn horn.

When joining, please let me know the following things in your first post:
1 ) Any specific achievements/goals your character would have within the overall goal of the RP, such as trying to increase standing with a certain faction or obtaining a certain item/asset. So long as it doesn't diverge too much, I'll see what I can do to include it.
2 ) Any point boosters the character might have. (Attentive Student, Mentor, Devour, Narrative Booster, etc.).
3 ) Any [Wanted] or criminal titles your character might have. (Note, some city or guild-related settings will make entry for criminals considerably more difficult and would need discussion pre-joining.)
4 ) Any Buddy Skills, Masterwork Skills or Complex Assets your character might have.

A few days had passed since their arrival. The first day, Ceylan had slept through nearly all of it. The second, he'd slowly gotten back to his 'business as usual' in talking with people, helping calm their nerves, healing people, or simply providing an extra pair of hands where needed. He'd even go around healing livestock or trying to help solve disputes that arose between those from Erithis and Eraza.

That said, as he and Siegfried remained, they'd start hearing a certain rumour popping up more nad more often. 'Did you hear? They say grinding it into powder and drinking it can make you immortal?' Would be whispered in the streets. 'Hey, did you hear, they say it can cure all wounds, just like the Bishop is doing.' Would be whispered in the infirmary. 'Hey, hey, did you hear? They say it can make one stronger and younger!' Would be heard near the well. 'I heard it can make someone more virile!' Would be shouted in the tavern one night.

Ceylan

Languages: Common | <Beastial> | {Sylvan}

It was during the afternoon of their fourth day in Eraza, that Ceylan would ask Siegfried about it. “Say, did you also happen to catch these odd rumours about some Unicorn Horn being for sale in a nearby town? I'll admit I've been getting concerned and curious in equal measure, about what type of artefact could cause so many people to talk about it.” He'd state, his voice portraying the very emotions he mentioned in mixed proportions.

Mortals know not their place.
  • Despite Siegfried believing sleep to be the root of mortal tedium; it was subtly familiar to him. It was a state devoid of thought and weight, which only made it easy for Siegfried to casually pass out when his body—which he ignorantly neglected the needs of—found even a tinge of comfort. He found that incredibly frustrating. Although, he had no time to linger on trivial emotions over trivial things; imperative things stirred.

    Siegfried spent most of his time tailing behind Ceylan like a lost puppy as a ploy to stop him from overexerting himself. When he wasn't doing that, he helped lift and carry things since that was all he could provide since he had no other skills outside of martial prowess. Siegfried's attention would easily be drawn away from all this in due time—after all, it concerned him greatly.

    Siegfried was sitting on a crate, brushing out the white tuft at the end of his tail when Ceylan brought up the rumours which had not so subtly spoilt Siegfried's ears. "Yes," He'd bluntly reply before setting down the brush, releasing the hold of his tail and staring straight into Ceylan's face. "I need to inquire where, how and who did acquire this alleged Unicorn's Horn." He said—the lack of expression or tone was usual for Siegfried yet, his tail thrashed against the crate a few times as he stood. "We should venture yon and seek out this salesperson to calm your curiosities and concern." Siegfried smiled, "Eraza will stay fair notwithstanding your absence."

Ceylan was surprised by how sudden and short Siegfried's first response was. The next bit surprsied him in equal measure. “Do you... also have some personal stake in this, per chance?” Ceylan's Insight (B) made him feel that much was true. It didn't sound like this was just about Ceylan's own interest, at the very least.

As for Eraza, he nodded. “I believed we did what we could here. Luckily, the journey shouldn't be too difficult, as there is a portal nearby that can take us to the place in question. From what I've gathered, if it is true that this Unicorn Horn is on sale, it should be in a place called Refera's Sound.”

There was only one thing that bothered him. “Still, to divert our time and energy to chase down mere rumours. I've wanted your opinion hoping you'd dissuade me, yet you seem, if I might estimate, even more invested. Could you tell me why?”

Mortals know not their place.
  • Unicorns can't lie and Siegfried was no different. After all, honesty was just incredibly simpler than lying—if you could lie naturally, something was wrong with you. Of course, Siegfried also believed everything he was told as if it were fact and true because, in his previous life, things like mice taking the tooth under your pillow and leaving silver or gold did happen regularly. It probably happened here too, in different circumstances. "Indeed." He replied cheerfully, not further elaborating because Ceylan didn't ask why. Yet.

    "I have never taken a portal before," Siegfried perked up, "Up 'til now, I have not thought of them either. They sound much more convenient than walking." Although it definitely would be more convenient, Siegfried did enjoy walking. He enjoyed the scenery most. He looked at Ceylan, "Have you ever used a portal before? How did it feel? What colour was it?" He'd ask, it was important to prepare himself.

    "If this salesperson happened upon a unicorn's horn, he is faultless; if he sought a unicorn only to rob him of his birthright, he must face retribution," Siegfried answered, "Unicorns are no simple creature, they bear sacrosanct duties beyond mortal capability. If one is killed, that which he safeguards shares the same fate. It is iniquitous to fell a sacred creature for worldly profits." This was what he knew from his prior life, however, he wasn't sure if it was true for the unicorns of this world.

Ceylan

Languages: Common | <Beastial> | {Sylvan}

“Right.” Ceylan answered, upon learning Siegfried also had some personal stake in the matter. He wondered if he should ask more about it, though perhaps it was personal? Before he could make up his mind, Siegfried had asked about the portal. “They are, though they can be rather expensive and they might be rather disorienting and nauseating, especially if using them for the first time.” Ceylan warning him. “The colour..?” He asked. That felt like an odd question. “It seemed like a mixture of them, like... Like some liquid rainbow?” It was tough to explain and if this is against canon, Ceylan is now canonically colour-blind. “Though upon getting through it, it's total darkness for a while, until you arrive on the other side.”

The next bits were a bit confusing. “How does a unicorn's horn relate to their birthright?” He asked, first of all, though for the next bits... “I must admit I never questioned my ability to speak Common until just now. I have no clue what 'sacrosanct' or 'iniquitous' would refer too.” He had to admit those were completely unknown to him. Perhaps even in beastial, for that matter. “Though I do agree, killing such a guardian would be all sorts of wrong.” He'd nod, though he wasn't fully sure how much Siegfried was 'right' about how/what unicorns were about.

He decided not to question it, as he slowly led the way towards the portal, having already gathered up his belongings earlier. He decided it'd be best not to have an extensive goodbye here, as those 'in the know' already knew he was planning to move on sooner, rather than later. His business here was therefore finished and didn't need an extended line-up of people expressing their thanks. A simple short prayer before taking the portal out later would suffice.

What is your favourite sky?
  • "Why are they expensive?" Siegfried would tilt his head, "I do not find any reason to add value to something anyone can achieve with time." He'd shrug it off, as though it weren't something that grand. "Yes, the colour. It matters." Siegfried repeated it felt as though it were something that everyone needed to know. Although, Siegfried was colourblind and could not see every colour that humans could. "Withal, it sounds rather drab and inconvenient for something that is supposed to be convenient—" He stepped closer to Ceylan, a smile on his face, "It seems it would be more convenient for someone like you. If this Sound's place is far, you would be cadaver by the time we get there." Siegfried would say, his finger pointing to Ceylan's chest. It was his attempt at making a light joke, but everyone would find this brazenly condescending and rude.

    Siegfried's brows slightly furrowed when Ceylan asked the question. "Every creature is born with the right to live. A unicorn dies when his horn is separated from his head." This was obvious to Siegfried, it was knowledge he was born with. A constant echo that lingered in his mind. Or was it like that? He did not know and it did not matter much either. "No single creature on this plane is entitled to take this from you. Well, or so I believe I was told. We have the right to live and the purpose to die, it does not particularly matter how. Unicorns do not go anywhere when they die because they are not supposed to, hence they cease to exist, unlike you." He spoke as though it was a widely known fact. Yet, this was old knowledge that may not be true for this world, but for one thing, he was literal proof that this which he believed was a fact, was indeed, untrue.

    If Siegfried was a normal person, he would have chuckled when Ceylan said he had not heard of such words before but instead, Siegfried stared blankly before a subtle smile creased his lips. "Something sacrosanct is inviolable; you cannot interfere with it, for it is sacred. Iniquitous, is something that is wrong morally." He looked at Ceylan with a smile, "You could teach me something or other from those songs you sing with those other mortals, perchance," Siegfried would add, referring to the sound of Sylvan. " Although, I am forbidden from singing."

    Following where Ceylan led felt nice. Siegfried felt as though, for once, that he knew where he was going and what he had to do. It was a bit of a strange feeling, to be following after someone. Siegfried had been wandering and wandering around, hoping that he'd find something that he could do for an unspeakably long time. Perhaps he could have counted all the stars in the time that he spent wandering in his last life. He could've done it twice. He wondered for a moment if Ceylan liked the stars or the sky. What type of sky was his favourite?

Ceylan

Languages: Common | <Beastial> | {Sylvan}

Siegfried remained a confusing creature, even after they'd spent a fair amount of time together whilst helping the villagers in Eraza. As they headed for the portal, Ceylan continued the conversation. “Time is one of the most finite resources we have. No matter how rich you are, no matter how powerful you are, no matter how talented you are. Eventually, time runs out for everyone. Even those that stopped ageing, few as they are in number, will likely find themselves killed or dying by disease or disaster eventually. As such, time, being the only truly finite recourse, becomes more valuable than any other, especially to those that wish to do much within the limited timespan they're given in this world. It's why the cost of portals, which can save vast amounts of time as well as guarantee a safer and easier passage, can charge higher sums to people.”

“How come the colour matters?” He asked, still curious and somewhat confused about that bit. “A safe and quick way to travel is far from drab and inconvenient.” He'd counter, though the next bit had him confused. The villagers that overheard seemed to look at the man in scorn as well, as he was pretty much calling out their saviour for being a weakling. Ceylan decided he'd try tone it down. “I do have a tendency to overwork and not take care of myself.” He'd reply, hoping that'd be a good enough response to tone things down a bit.

Yet again, however, Ceylan was confused. “How come? I know of many species that can live without their horns, even though it might be considered shameful. I never knew unicorns might be different.” He honestly wondered if they actually were or of Siegfried was making it up as he went, at this point. He wasn't sure why the knight would, but it sounded rather odd at the very least. “Truthfully, I am not sure if you're talking about the same unicorns as I believe we might be after...” He shared some of his doubts.

Inviolable. Of course that's what sacrosanct meant. He shouldn't know. So what in the world was inviolable? He was lucky Siegfried explained more. “Your linguistic ability in Common is highly remarkable.” Ceylan noted, wondering how someone casually knew such words well enough to use them in conversation in a language that was native to just about nobody.

The next bit confused him for a second. “Wait, you mean speaking Sylvan? It is not a form of singing. It is merely a language with some more sing-song like qualities to it. I believe I would be able to teach you some... wait... When you say 'other mortals', do you wish to imply that you aren't one?” He suddenly realised. Was this man supposed to be immortal?

“Ah, we've arrived. We'll have to continue our conversation after we went through.” Ceylan stated, as they'd arrived at the portal. He'd pay for them to use it, after which they were scanned by a black orb for their titles, before giving permission to enter through. Going through it would be... unpleasant. The feeling of your body being warped was highly disorienting for fist-time users in particular. Up was down, down was up, left as also up, right was down, down was left. That said, it'd only last for a moment. Ceylan was quick to recover as they stepped out on the other side. Whether Siegfried was equally lucky was another question.

Yes, I know words like sacrosanct but I don't know hate.
  • "Yet you must still work again to regain what you spent? Is that not more a waste?" Siegfried stared back at Ceylan, "It is curious that something made up can influence one's entire existence. Well, all things are made up." He'd laugh, making levity of what Ceylan had said. "True, all creatures are destined to die. That is why you sought to make living convenient and simple, no? Albeit you have everything you need the moment you first open your eyes; it is because you seek more, that living becomes difficult," He'd look to Ceylan with a slight smile, "Yet, that is but my presumptions."

    Siegfried smiled like a child getting candy and stared at Ceylan straight in the eyes. "Why do you think that colour matters? You surely have a more profound answer, " he would ask the bishop instead of answering his question. "True, it is safe and quick, but no flowers grow upon its path, and your ears will not hear the melodies of a bird," He'd shrug, "it is not fun." Siegfried would retort. Siegfried did not notice what Ceylan noticed and he did not see anything wrong in what he said either. "I can take care of you. Sustaining the welfare of aught delights me." Siegfried was also supposed to say that he would do so temporarily, but that did not cross his mind.

    Siegfried's eyes wandered off as Ceylan questioned him, "What does your world tell of unicorns?" He'd ask without filtering his question in a way that sounded normal and not like he came from a different planet. He looked at Ceylan, "I must have heard and read different tales than you have. Where does one hail? What did you see the first time you opened your eyes?" He forgot that there were more places in this world than where he came from, and Ceylan's regard for Siegfried's linguistics was proof of that. "It is? Everyone at the orphanage speaks like this." He replied scratching his nape for a moment and averting his eyes away from Ceylan's. The end of Siegfried's tail twitched.

    "How verily. Do you think that god of contracts or something or other that the corvid witch spoke of will strike me down if I speak it?" Siegfried did not answer Ceylan's question and simply asked another question while also disregarding respect for the divine.

    "I will look forward to it." Siegfried smiled, before stepping in right behind Ceylan. Immediately after stepping inside the portal, Siegfried wanted to die. If he knew the word, he would probably say he hates it. As soon as Siegfried was on the other side of the portal, he felt normal. Before he attempted to move; his disorientated body ended up falling forward like a statue tipping over as Siegfried fell straight into Ceylan. Toppling over like pillars crashing into each other.

“The exchange rates of time and money are ever-obscured by many factors.” He'd reply to Siegfried asking him about earning back what you spent. It'd simply be too different on a case by case basis.

One bit confused him. “Air, water, food, shelter, safety, protection... There are many things one needs after being born. Without it, one would not even be able to continue living.” The unicorn's earlier statement had sounded contradictory in that regard. “For the sake of living alone, you need more.”

He decided to ignore the topic of colours mattering. “Fun? Whilst that is good, at times, it is not always affordable. Sometimes, one needs to be efficient or safe first.” He'd reply. The next bit confused him. “I am not sure what I did to owe such courtesy and care, nor do I understand what would drive you towards it, yet it is appreciated.” He just feared this strange knight didn't have ulterior motives.

“Unicorns... I do not know a lot, but I do know there are two types.” He'd break his mind over it for a bit. “The Beast variety, whom are just a wide variety of equine-like beats with a horn, as well as the Fae variety, whom I believe are far more magical and who's horns function as a natural catalyst.” That said, his memories were blurry. “Though, I must say, my memories are blurry, so I might misremember. I have not encountered any unicorns personally in a very long time.”

The 'origin story' question was something he'd rather leave out for now as well, as that too, brought up many blurry memories. There was one common factor he did think was worth mentioning. “The orphanage you hail from must have been very particular. The one I grew up in did not have even remotely the same level of speech. That said, Beastial is not known for having many abstract words to begin with.”

“I know neither the deity your speak of, nor the the particular oath, contract or curse that you might refer too, so I cannot say for sure.” He stated, a bit careful as he did not wish to meddle with the gods without any more proper hints. “Though if you made a contracted pledged to Miralis, the god of Law himself, or a deity akin to him, I would recommend not to test it too much. Perhaps only learn the language if absolutely necessary or seek to undo such an oath first.”

After leaving the portal, he'd only recovered for a moment when he suddenly felt a weight push into him. Ceylan wasn't a strong person. Nor was he a sturdy person. Nor was he a quick or particularly well-balanced person. It's why he got toppled by the mighty unicorn like a blade of grass by the stomp of an elephant, crashing into the rocks hard enough to push all the air out of his lungs with an audible whimper from the suddenness, shock and pain. The unicorn would have a much softer landing though. Namely Ceylan himself.

You're overreacting, his not dead... Probably.
  • Siegfried only knew how to use one direction of movement, and that was forward. He never thought of walking up or down or backwards, after all, forward was the easiest to go through with. So being bombarded with all these different directions was entirely too much for Siegfried's one-track mind. Hence, he should have braced himself better when entering the portal; yet he did not and must thusly suffer the consequences.

    As soon as he felt the soft of his landing and as soon as he heard a distinct noise he was used to ignoring in his life before. Wolf pups made similar noises in the cold after being wounded, their mothers usually could do little else but lick those wounds as it dyed the white of snow, a deep crimson. Back then, he could do nothing to help those pitiful creatures, but here it was different. Siegfried immediately gathered himself and pushed his weight off of Ceylan. He'd then lift Ceylan, firmly holding the man's shoulders as he looked Ceylan straight in the eye, "Ceylan are you dead?!" He didn't understand why the volume of his voice was so high and he couldn't understand the expression he felt he was pulling on his face. This was a new and very uncomfortable feeling. His heart knocked against his chest, his eyes itched and he's hands shook despite not being cold. He shook Ceylan a bit, checking for a reaction.

    He felt dizzier than when he left the portal. Had he murdered an innocent because of this accursed mortal creation of arrogance; an insult to the basis of all creation? "Ceylan, hark, Ceylan... Ceylan," He repeated several times, urgently urging a response. Siegfried knew little of medicine and human anatomy, so it never crossed his mind to check Ceylan's beating heart or pulse, or notice his breathing or any other signs that he may have not just committed a sin he felt celestially more grave than what he had done before.

The air was flooding back into his lunges, though painfully so, making him reach for his catalyst. At times like these, having healing magic sure paid off. He was pretty sure he might've broken something just then. Being lifted confirmed it, as the strain on his ribs in particular sent another painful stab through his body, making his tail curl up in pain and rewarding Siegfried with another whimper.

Upon hearing the unicorn asked if he was dead, he managed to recover enough to talk. “No... I'm not the sturdiest, but I'm not that fragile..” He mumbled, as he took out his catalyst.

Normally, it felt rather selfish to use his healing on himself. This time, it was warranted and needed alike. “<May my wounds be closed. May my body be mended through the soothing powers of healing invested in me by the gods. So that I can brave the world anew and reinvigorated. So that my broken bones can be mended, my body restored.>” He chanced in his native tongue, though not exactly feeling the best vocalising the words.

He's soon realise they had caused a fair bit of a scene. “I'm good now. Let's move, we're holding people up and we stand out enough already, even without causing a scene.” He'd state, trying to grab Siegfried's hand to pull him away before they'd draw even more attention.

You're overreacting, his not dead... Probably.
  • He wasn't assured by Ceylan's whimpers. The amount of emotions would make any normal being begin to cry at the moment, but knights did not cry. Unicorns did not cry; when they did, they must have experienced something insurmountable. Instead, it felt as if every tense muscle in Siegfried's body relaxed when he heard that Ceylan was indeed, very much (arguably), alive and not well.

    Then he tensed again, his heart was still beating, rattling ribs, trembling limbs. Ceylan was still hurt, very very hurt. Or well, that's how Siegfried saw him, like a flower trampled on by horses running through a field. Then Ceylan began to... chant? In some odd growl that Siegfried hardly understood; whatever it was, it soon seemed to resolve Ceylan's hurt.

    Siegfried would not resist as Ceylan tugged him along. "Ceylan, I must apologise—no, I beg, pray that you forgive me. The agonies I have imparted unto you wounds me without end. I will do all that is in my power for you to forgive me; I will endure any punishment you deem worthy of my sacrilege." Siegfried stared Ceylan straight in the eyes, "If you deem this life your due, I shall make it cease immediately." His offer was as genuine as any other word his ever uttered. "To make you suffer so, someone so excellent as yourself... yes, death is a penance of ought equity." He murmured to himself in speaking volume, before his eyes returned to Ceylan, "I have committed twice a sin in harming you; benevolence to those less hardy than one's self and to defend all that is right and good—oh," It was the first time anything similar to an 'ugh' or whine of raw emotion left Siegfried's mouth, "honour beshrewed, it is nought before I have begun!" The way Siegfried spoke as though reading nonchalantly from notes on a podium made his dramatic words seem as though he were playing out a character from a comedic play.

    Yet Siegfried truly was in a moral turmoil. Of the commandments he swore to follow, two of them, were broken. He saw breaking them as a sin as they were a sacred law to him; and he was already a sinful creature, to commit more sins made him truly long to not feel the way that he did now. He wanted to kneel before Ceylan and express his "regret" for what he did as respectfully as he could. However, it seemed that Ceylan didn't want to cause a scene and hence, Siegfried reframed. For now.

As they got out of public, he'd sigh. Hearing Siegfrieds apologies and sudden promises and whatnot, he shook his head. “You're forgiven. Accidents happen and it doesn't help that I'm more frail than most of our kind.” He'd admit. “Besides, I already healed myself. It was a temporary inconvenience, no more.” He'd try to reassure the unicorn.

He was a tad shocked when Siegfried suddenly started about giving his life for this. “Please don't say that. Your life is worth a lot more and mine is worth a lot less than that.” He'd reply, gesturing for Siegfried to please calm down. “Besides, something like that would sadden me even more. I do believe you're a good person, after you aided me without asking for anything in turn, so your death would be a tremendous loss regardless of circumstances.” He'd try to further talk Siegfried out of having such terrifying thoughts.

“If you wish to make up for it, I'd only ask for you to continue to aid me, for it has been most welcome.” He'd add, not thinking too much more of the incident. Though he did wonder. His [insight] and [empathy] were high enough to notice that this was a very big deal to Siegfried and that he'd not be 'brushed off' this easily. Thinking his best on how to continue, he'd suddenly have an idea. “Rather than paying with your life to make up for it, I'd much rather see you protecting me with it. You've seen yourself that I'm... well, I'm sadly rather frail.”

He hoped that would satisfy the knight's honour and sense of duty/regret enough to stop Siegfried's inner turmoil, or at least tone it down. He could only hope the latter wouldn't overdo it, but at the very least, Ceylan could resurrect him if needed. Taking a deep breath, he'd hope to get this bit over with. “Let us continue our quest. Perhaps, if we simply walk among the crowds, we will learn more of the Unicorn Horn that's supposedly on sale here. Unless you'd have a more suitable idea to try track it down. I fear outright asking for it might simply make us stand out or end up to us being misled.”

Look up to the sky and find your way.
  • Whether or not he knew it, Siegfried was taken aback by how casually Ceylan brushed it off; "True. True that," Siegfried would agree, both that it was an accident and that Ceylan was weak as a few sticks, "I must not be so insolent as to bring you harm or exhaust you, Ceylan. I cannot forgive myself as graciously as you forgive me."

    Siegfried felt offended by Ceylan's next response, he was arrogant for the lives of others and neglectful toward his own. He had no reason to be alive, furthermore; he would rather not be alive in the first place. Siegfried stared at Ceylan the same way when he offered to cease his own life; when Ceylan said his own life was worth less. "I believe you are far more worthy than I. If I were to die, I would leave nought and no one; the stars would cry for you if the day comes that you breathe your last breath." Siegfried said this as if it were a matter of fact. One wouldn't think he was speaking metaphorically; if he were speaking metaphorically at all, I wouldn't know.

    His eyes shifted away from Ceylan's when he said that he'd be saddened if he were to die, "O- Oh?" He backed away for the moment, "Do you mean that?" Siegfried asked again. Tremendous loss were the words which lingered in Siegfried's ears for a moment. He was a bit abashed to hear, that he of all people, would bring such an impact on someone's state of mind.

    Siegfried listened tentatively afterwards and would perk up immediately after hearing what Ceylan had to say next, "Ceylan—" He'd grab Ceylan's hands, as gently as he could, "I have conceived an idea most ingenious." He'd then kneel, still holding Ceylan's hands, "I shall do exactly that, as it is the commandments of chivalrous creed to respect and be the defender of all weakness, henceforth; I, Siegfried of Vaticinor, am obliged to pledge my fealty without cessation and that I will remain faithful and honest to you, Ceylan, and I shall scrupulously aid in all that you seek to accomplish!" Again, Siegfried spoke as though reciting words from a script, with sparkling eyes and a cheery grin.

    Well, Siegfried's eyes were always sparkling due to the composition of the blood vessels in his retina which reflected through his transparent irises. "Yes," Siegfried stood up, "I do not see why anyone would mislead you but if it worries you, I will reframe," Siegfried look around for any birds or squirrels of the sort, this seemed like a place where such animals would gather, probably, "Mayhaps we could ask a bird or rodent, they would not be untruthful. Do you have anything they may like? They are avaricious after all." He'd ask, as though talking to animals were normal. Siegfried was already beginning to wander about aimlessly, "Or we follow the azure pathways amidst clouds, they lead you where you are meant to be." Siegfried said, looking up at the sky. His methods were unorthodox.

Ceylan

Languages: Common | <Beastial> | {Sylvan}

As Ceylan expected, Siegfried accepting forgiveness wasn't easy. Or rather, him forgiving himself wasn't. To make matters worse, the value of his life seemed rather exaggerated. “I'm not sure what I did to warrant such sentiments, nor do I feel them to be true, but I do feel strangely honoured that someone such as yourself might hold them.” That was his conclusion, after some careful deliberation on the topic.

As for Ceylan being sad of Siegfried were to die, the doggo raised his eyebrows. “Of course I do.” He stated, as that seemed to be rather logical. Surely even to the knight, no?

He wasn't sure where they were going when his hands were grabbed, but his tail started wagging a bit regardless. How odd. More odd was the fact that Siegfried suddenly knelt before him. Wait. Was he going to be proposed too? He was so not ready for such a thing. At least take him out for dinner first. His tail stopped wagging. Until Siegfried spoke up again. “Your vocabulary remains impressive...” He stated, a bit too puzzled to let the words sink in. Besides. Cessation? Scrupulously? He might need to buy a Common to Beastial dictionary just to keep up with Siegfried.

Then again... “Your aid is most welcome. I'm sure we'll be able to do many good deeds together.” Honestly, Siegfried was likely going to be a huge aid in spreading the Syncretist faith across the continent, so this was clearly for the greater good.

The next bit confused him. “You are capable of gathering information from birds or rodents?” He'd take out some rations, nuts, raisins, dried bread. “This should be to their liking.” What Siegfried said next was equally confusing. “I do not believe I have magic capable of showing Divine Path.” He'd reply, a bit confused.

As for looking for birds, Siegfried was in luck. There were lots of them here. All singing beautiful songs that Ceylan was enjoying. Their brightly coloured feathers and songbird qualities really brought out the charms of this place.

What Siegfried heard, however...

A beautifully red and green coloured bird was singing his beautiful whistle song at the top of his lungs. Look at my feathers, bitch let's fuck!

A blue and purple bird was singing even louder. You can't be hating. We be mating. My feathers fly, coloured sky. Let's rub cloaca like we're dancing carioca. It seemed the latter birds... 'poetry' was getting him a lot of attention.

It was clear these beautiful birds of song were singing their best... for their mating season had arrived.

Can we hold hands, pleasepleasepleasepleaseeeee????
  • "I can name many instances wherein I was awed by your brilliance and kindness which thus warrant my hyperbolic sentiments toward you." Siegfried replied, "How you believe your actions mundane and unworthy of praise as they are merely your duty is another aspect I find aspirational of you," He'd say, without looking at Ceylan as he'd attempt to follow path carved by splits between the clouds.

    The tip of Siegfried's tail twitched, curling up like a hook. "It would seem strange if I stopped walking after hearing what you said," Siegfried would admit, it was something people would rather think and not say. "but hearing you say that makes me feel awfully delighted." He'd add, "You've given me a reason to cherish this life and be more aware of my mortality," This was something you'd hear in some romance novel, but Siegfried didn't mean it that way. He didn't know anything about romance yet nor did he care much for it.

    Siegfried looked over to Ceylan again, "I want to learn the vocabulary you use, from the sylvan one to that other one you used earlier." He'd say, "Why and how did you learn to speak these languages? I find them more impressive, I can only convey my thoughts with my body and through my words." Siegfried would ask. "And, you seemed happy when I held your hands prior, shall I hold them again?" He'd ask as though it was something people did normally, afterall, Siegfried never didn't notice when Ceylan's tail began wagging.

    "Yes, are you not? Can you not converse with other canines?" Siegfried would ask, accepting the various bird offerings gingerly. "Divine path? How do you mean?" He'd tilt his head, now he was just as confused as Ceylan was.

    In Aslan, an expansive vocabulary was quite normal due to how encouraged reading high literature and transcribing ancient, magical texts was; however, having grown up in an orphanage where grown-ups were very weary of letting children learn and speak with such vulgar and ugly words, the "poetry" of the birds would fly over Siegfried's head. He felt like how Ceylan must have felt every time he spoke in such a verbose tongue.

    It didn't averse him however, due to how he did not understand. He whistled to one them, the red and green one, ("Pardon me, little sir birdie; I do not mean to disturb you,") Siegfried held out the offerings Ceylan had bequeathed to him, ("But if you would be so kind as to impart to me the whereabouts of a someone selling off a unicorn's horn—if you are so privy—then I shall gladly offer to you all these viands,") He'd inquire with a subtle smile. Siegfried did gather that the birds were trying to gather attention, thus the bird who gathered less attention would be more willing—afterall, what more do animals love than a surplus of food?

Ceylan

Languages: Common | <Beastial> | {Sylvan}

Siegfried's directness and insistent praise was confusing to the doggo, who was used to try melt away into the background, following the whole 'humble priest' act. This made doing such a thing next to impossible. That said, there was a logical fallacy in Siegfried's words. “If me believing my actions to be unworthy of praise is what you find aspirational, then I must remain insistent on that they are.” Hopefully that'd have the knight calm down his words a bit so the doggo could catch a break, as this level of praise and dedication was starting to get highly off-putting.

The next bit, at least, was good. He thought. “I'm glad to have done so, even though I wish you'd soon find many more reasons to cherish your life. There are many things to enjoy and there is much good to be done.” He'd add. Just in case.

“I've... simple learned other languages by trying? Pointing at something and repeating what I was told it was called.” He'd never been given any formal education. “When travelling a lot, it becomes pretty necessary to speak the native tongues of those you travel too.”

Another question took him off guard. The hand-holding bit. “Oh, no, that … that would be alright...” He stammered, not wanting thing to get awkward and therefore making them utterly awkward.

Thankfully, there was another topic to jump to and ignore the last one. “No, I cannot. Only the ones that speak Beastial, not the actual animals, if that is what you meant.” He'd hurry to get some reply formulated to brush off the last question. “It's a type of magic that shows you where to go, though I've only heard of it.” He'd explain the last bit.

Siegfried did manage to get the attention of the bird, although the latter switched its town. “(Ey, buddy, can't ya see I'm tryna get laid here?”) He rasped. The singing far gone from its beak. (“Horns? Food. Oh. Food.”) The bird debated his options. (“Give me your shirt and your food. All the bitches will be flying if they see my decked out crib and loaded stash.”)

His wearing a turtleneck under his tunic.
  • Siegfried was utterly unaware of both Ceylan's discomfort and the awkward air that he had created. After all, awkward was not in Siegfried's emotional vocabulary. To what Ceylan found awkward, Siegfried would dismiss with a smile and carry on. His ignorance was his advantage but sooner or later, it would land him into trouble with someone who is more vain and affluent than he is. There were a lot more questions Siegfried wanted to ask Ceylan, but he had to get to work. He could always ask Ceylan later.

    Siegfried's blank expression met the bird's eyes. He barely understood what the bird had said, but he could at least understand what it wanted. At least. Siegfried unfastened the flower buttons of his tunic, took it off, and then used it as a pouch for the food. He was a bit annoyed, not that he had to get a new shirt or that he had to give away this one, but rather that he had to unfasten the buttons. He didn't so elegantly unfasten each button from their silken knots in fluid rhythm, but instead fiddled a little with a few and struggled immensely with one. It was as if this garment was created solely to irritate those who dared wear it. He chose it for the buttons because he found them endearing and wistful. It was ultimately a mistake.

    He heaved a sigh, ("Pardon me for a moment,") Siegfried excused himself, taking a turn back to Ceylan. The bird was perched high upon a tree of which the name escaped Siegfried, likely because it was one specific to this world and Siegfried was not nearly tall enough to reach the bird. However, Ceylan was magic. "Ceylan, is it possible for you to pass this—" Siegfried lifted his makeshift parcel of grains pouched in a floral brocade of satin, " through space to deliver it to the red and green little sir birdie over yonder tree?" He'd ask, "The little sir requests it in exchange for the information we seek." Siegfried forsook to mention that the little Sir Birdie never actually implied he knew of or where the thing they sought lay.

Ceylan

Languages: Common | <Beastial> | {Sylvan}

Needlessly to say, Ceylan was horribly confused, slightly panicked even, when the knight suddenly started to undress. “What...? What are you doing? Are... are you alright?” He asked, worried and with a slight blush. After all, after all Siegfried had told him, to suddenly undress was... Extra extraordinarily confusing. Let's call it that.

When Siegfried casually asked him to hand it to the bird, he was even more confused. “What... but, why?” He got his answer soon. Siegfried was giving his shirt to a bird in exchange for information... Right. Ceylan wasn't sure what god he should be praying too, but he felt like he should really be praying right now.

He sighed. “I am sure the 'sir' can catch it if you throw it.” He'd suggest, too confused to do more than just going with the flow for now. Should Siegfried throw it, the bird would indeed catch it.

(“Hell yeah! My crib's gonna be decked out yo! What'd ya wanna know again? Unicorn Horn? I think Lady Shaylan's assistant has confiscated that thing. Gonna want to head to the mayor's place. Anyhow, I'mma go. Gotta get my place set-up for the lucky lady to come visit it.”) The bird added, as it flew off.

Ceylan was still just staring in silent (having resisted the urge to [Fetch(er)] the clothes when those were thrown. “Ehm.... did you learn anything of use from that?” He asked, hoping for a positive reply, mostly to confirm the knight hadn't lost his sanity.

You're overreacting, his not dead... Probably.
  • Siegfried was as confused as Ceylan was when he'd ask that question. "Are your eyes as impaired as mine?" He'd ask, genuinely curious. It was meant to be a thought and although it could be interpreted as an insult, it was not. "I am unbuttoning my tunic and removing it from my personage," Siegfried explained without elaborating why he was doing that. Siegfried would have asked why Ceylan's face had become redder; if not for that he was colourblind and would sparsely see the difference.

    "Oh." Siegfried stared blankly at Ceylan. "Yes, that seems pragmatic; I should not exhaust you," Siegfried smiled, as he turned and took a few steps closer to the tree. He'd hold the makeshift pouch, bend his arm back and then throw, not too harshly, the bag to the bird. It lunged toward the bird and Siegfried was glad that the avaricious thing could catch it without too much.

    Siegfried turned back to Ceylan with a bounce in his steps toward him, "Allow me to relay exactly what the bird had said—" He cleared his throat, knocking his neck. What he was about to say was not to be said with the expression of a child thanking someone, "Hell yeah. My crib's gonna be decked out yo. What'd ya wanna know again. Unicorn Horn. I think Lady Shaylan's assistant has confiscated that thing. Gonna want to head to the mayor's place. Anyhow, I'mma go. Gotta get my place set-up for the lucky lady to come visit it." Siegfried attempted to copy the tone of the bird, but it came out much more monotone in comparison. "Whithersoever that be—do you perhaps know, Ceylan?"

    Before he began wandering onward aimlessly he turned back to the bishop, "Oh, I couldn't ask earlier, but could you mayhaps share with me what you cherish life for? What do you enjoy? Outside of helping others." He would ask, his interest very much clear in the way that his eyes didn't leave Ceylan's. Speaking of eyes, "And Ceylan, what colour are your eyes?" It was a question that didn't seem to matter to anyone else.

Ceylan

Languages: Common | <Beastial> | {Sylvan}

“What, yes, I mean, I see, but... I meant to ask, why?” He was rather confused by the answer he'd received. If it wasn't clear there was something rather nonsensical about the knight already, there was no doubt about it now. “Most wouldn't suddenly start to undress in public.” He added, as it felt like a common sense explanation was going to be needed. “At worst, it would be considered inappropriate, rude or perhaps even perverse. At best, it would be considered a type of unwarranted attention-seeking behaviour.” He knew some Fae were a bit less clothing-inclined in general, but even by their standards, undressing at random would probably be deemed odd.

If Ceylan hadn't just witnessed everything unfolding in front of his very eyes, he might've believed that the knight had hit his head against away and was now talking nonsense. “That... are those really the type of words used by birds?” It felt as if something majestic about nature had suddenly shattered into dust. “I... right.” He wanted to start another sentence, but for the sake of his own sanity, he decided against it. There was only so much mental strain he was able to take right now.

He figured he'd try think about the content of the words that were relayed instead. “The mayor's place? I'm not sure where that would be, but if I had to guess.” He pointed at the large building at the top of the cliff-side. “Seeing how it's an important position, the most notable building in town is our likeliest option. If not there, we can ask along the way.” He'd state, as he intended to start heading over.

The next question caught him by surprise. “Outside of helping others?” That reduced about 99% of what he enjoyed. What was the last 1%? Fetching.. “I do enjoy taking in new sights, learning about new cultures and meeting new people.” He'd gesture at the sea. “Despite being on a mission, I do enjoy seeing this place for the first time. Watching out across the sea, witnessing the natural beauty here. Perhaps we'll have some time left to try some of the food here and speak to some of the people here as well, after our mission.”

Siegfried's final question was also surprising. Unlike the none [Beast] canines, he wasn't red-green colour blind. Though even if he was, his answer would remain the same. “Blue.” He'd reply. “I didn't know you were colour-blind.” He'd add. “Though your own eyes are a brighter shade of blue.” Also a more odd shade, but he left that out. The knight had enough mystery about him without gazing deeply into his eyes. Perhaps he'd do so later though.

You're the colour of the sky.
  • Siegfried remained in his confusion, "For why?" He'd ask, "If your clothing is stained or soaked; if your body temperature raises above what one can stand due to your garments would one not remove said garments in pursuit of a state ideal and comfortable?" Social normalcy and polite society were beyond Siegfried; he was but a unicorn, not a man and unicorns, do not wear clothing.

    "Yes." Siegfried would reply bluntly. "Peculiar, is it not? Words I cannot quite comprehend, yet which seem so meaningful." Naive to the true meaning of such language, Siegfried ignorantly believed it to be something more profound and beautiful than what it truly is. Rather, it was better he didn't know.

    "How lofty," Siegfried would exclaim with more emotion than what was usual for his tone of voice, "It looks like a palace of some grand ruler—is that what a mayor is? Like a king. Fantastic." He mused on, asking questions without really expecting or needing much of an answer. "How is your home like Ceylan?" He would ask, still gazing up at the large building as they walked onward.

    Siegfried looked over to the sea where Ceylan gestured, "You say that you journey often, where was the most memorable place you have been? What was the most interesting thing you have learnt? Who was the most interesting person you have met?" Siegfried inquired, he was smiling a bit more than usual. "Can you skip rocks? We can go down to the docks and skip rocks together. I have a penchant for rocks." He refused to elaborate on why he had a penchant for rocks and just continued walking, facing straight ahead.

    "It was not something that mattered." Siegfried with a smile, "The colour of the sky at noon is one I can see, I am fond of it. I like your eyes a lot too, so I wanted to know what colour they were. Hearing that they are indeed blue, makes me happy." He looked up to the sky, "Now, when I look at the sky or the surface of water, I will think of you. You will always be with me, even if you are one million miles from me." The implications of what Siegfried said so casually escaped him. He said this as though he was explaining how to peel an orange.

Ceylan

Languages: Common | <Beastial> | {Sylvan}

The doggo was growing a bit anxious. Having to explain common sense to someone was surprisingly difficult. “In most cases, one would indeed not do so. It would be deemed socially unacceptable. The nuances of it and the exceptions of it are complex, but in this case, one might easily have drawn unintended assumptions as well. I... Could attempt to explain later, but I fear it might not make sense to you.”

As for the bird's choice of words, it was a big surprise and a let-down at once. Yet the knight seemed to somehow not mind it as much. “Meaningful... Right. Perhaps it is a species thing.” Whom would he be to judge birds on their choice of words? Let's go with that, as that would probably help him sleep at night.

He shook his head. “A mayor is in charge of a town or village. It's impressive, but a lot smaller than a kingdom.” He'd correct the knight. As for his own home. “The city where I grew up is a city near a cliff, much like this, though to the far north. What about yours?”

The next few questions took him off guard. The knight's interest in him seemed to be flaring up al ot more than he had accounted for. “The Paizu mountains were memorable, though in a mostly bad manner. One of the most interesting persons I've met... likely you.” He'd said it before he realised. “Or a man called Cayde, whom was a rather resourceful alchemist and inspiring travel companion.” He'd quickly try to brush over his previous answer.

As for skipping rocks, he'd rather fetch them. That said. “Perhaps you might be able to teach me later.” It was an odd thing, but that didn't mean it may not be good.

Ceylan was not ready for the following bits. The talk of his eyes making his tail wag a little, but also making him feel rather flustered. “I... I'm... ehm...” He desperatly tried to find something to say, yet failed. As luck would have it, however, they'd gotten near the mayor's office. “We should focus on getting ready to meet with the mayor's assistant.” He'd quickly state. A perfect excuse... were it not for the fact there seemed to be someone waiting outside ahead of them. A waiting line was not what he needed right now.

I am above lines.
  • "It is as you say," Siegfried admitted as he smiled at Ceylan, "but I will most gladly look forward to your detailed explanation in time." What Ceylan had explained to Siegfried reminded him of how he believes the people of his home must have felt when he explained the strange ideals of the chivalry books he so constantly read growing up.

    Siegfried looked over the buildings surrounding them again, "The buildings of this town seem far grander than what I am use to. It feels like walking in the courtyard of a palace." he'd remark. "The place wherein I hail bore tall buildings everywhere you looked, I had views of a lake which apparently laid centre of the entire continent." Siegfried said and like Ceylan, did not name a specific place.

    Siegfried's brows subtly furrowed as Ceylan remarked a bad experience,"Paizu Mountains? Why do you say so? If those mountains have done aught to bring you harm I shall go and make it nothing more than a pile of dust, if that is what you so wish." Could Siegfried rupture mountains? Probably not. On the other hand, his tail swayed behind him as he heard Ceylans following reply. "I am glad you think of me as interesting, Ceylan." He smiled.

    The idea of teaching and sharing something he was fond of with Ceylan made Siegfried feel a bit warm. "I shall look forward to it then." His tail twitched at the end indicating the excitement which didn't show on his face.

    Siegfried was staring at Ceylan's flustered self for an uncomfortably long moment, waiting for a moment to comment on his stammering voice and tail, but would forsake that chance when the bishop directed his attention to the mayor's door. Siegfried, being a social idiot, would walk up to the door into the office. He already knocked on the door before he looked at the someone and smiled, greeting them with a casual "Goodmorning."

Ceylan

Languages: Common | <Beastial> | {Sylvan}

He just nodded at Siegfried wanting the detailed explanation. Honestly, Ceylan had no clue where to even start, realising he'd not at all mind it if the knight would conveniently forget all about it later.

As for the buildings, it both surprised Ceylan and did not surprise him at all. “The main building, at the top of the cliff, seems like it is indeed extraordinarily large. Even I have not seen many buildings that large.” He had to admit that much. “Although it is odd how cities can resemble one another, even though they are on the opposite side of the continent.” It was odd, but for the first time in ages, he'd started to get a little homesick.

He distracted himself by guessing what place Siegfired might be referring to. When mentioning tall buildings near a lake at the centre of the continent, one place immediately came to mind. “You mean to refer to the Continental Lake?” He asked. “Tall Buildings near the Continental Lake... Do you hail from the Duchy of Roran?”

The idea that Siegfried offered to slay some mountains was oddly amusing, his tail giving a bit of a wag and his face displaying a slight smile, despite the bad memories. He'd shake his head. “The mountains themselves were gorgeous scenery. I merely had the misfortune of running into some more... evil-inclined people. Yet all that is in the past now.” He'd rather not risk sending Siegfired on a ghost hunt for vengeance.

As Siegfried approached the door, the people waiting in line would shoot him plenty of angry glares. It made Ceylan wish to case a non-existent invisibility spell on himself. That said, the door would open for Siegfried. There was nobody directly behind the door, but someone was seating further away into the building, in an office visible from outside.

Hajira

“Come, enter.” She'd speak out, gesturing them to come in. Should they do so, both the door to the outside (and later the door to her office) would close behind them on their own. “I had a feeling you might come to seek me out from the moment I sensed someone notable had entered our town.” She'd explain, “I am the assistant to lady Shaylan, Hajira. Whom might you two be and what has brought you here?”
