Episode 2: The Wolf of New York

@Kyon

The girl pouted, clearly upset at being called little. She then thought for a moment... Apartment... what had happened in the apartment? Strange creature thing... six red eyes... Mr. Irons... man with red eyes... man with red eyes... Sunni looked at the man and widened her own dark brown eyes. Red eyes like the creature. Red like blood. Red like the colour her parents were dyed in. Sunni shivered. Tonight wasn't a good night. The girl hid her intense fear quite poorly and said,

"Y-Yeah... Mr. LA... let's go..." She looked back at Nobuyuki, trusting that he would catch up. "Let's go..."

She looked down at the ground, studying the sidewalk as if extremely interested in the pavement.

Lavernius looked down at the girl walking next to him in confusion. She was truly terrified of him and he had no idea why. "You don't have to call me Mister. Makes feel older. I'm still a young stallion." LA said with a smile trying to ease the mood. He felt a little awkward knowing the girl was scared. "You know I'm starting to feel better." It was true. Lavernius was feeling better his headache had lessened and he was able to walk at a faster pace. He felt lighter now and more agile. "But, we should still go."

Sunni listened quietly, walking along in the cold night air. She listened at how he wanted her to call him LA.

"Okay," Sunni murmured. "LA."

In her mind, Mr. LA would always be Mr. LA. She still only saw him as a red-eyed man... red... red... Sunni shook her head quickly. The man spoke about how he was feeling better, and how the two should still go to the hospital. Sunni nodded, and let an awkward silence settle in. She didn't know what to say, and she didn't want to say anything anyways. New York, as always, was alive. The city seemed to never asleep. Street lights were still shining brightly, apartments and buildings were lighted, and the streets were filled with cars. Sunni looked ahead. The hospital was in view. She wanted to get there and know if the one person she trusted and knew the most was okay.

Lavernius chose not to let the silence deter him in conversation. "You remember the thing from the apartment, right?" He asked knowing the answer. The girl was likely to never forget it. "Well, I'm not sure if you know, but that thing is known as the Mangler. Not trying to insult your intelligence. Anyway, I think I know what gave it it's powers." LA cast a look at the girl to see if she was listening.

Sunni widened her eyes when the man brought up the creature from the apartment. Her breath caught in her chest. The air seemed a bit colder. Her mind replayed the six red eyes, the scratching, the doorbell ringing. She still remembered its strange, hideous voice and how it had thrown Mr. Irons so hard against the wall. The man continued on about how it was the Mangler, and then he said that he wasn't insulting her intelligence.

He's insulting my intelligence. the girl thought.

He then said that he thought he knew what gave it its powers. Sunni didn't want to talk about what happened, but she didn't want to say that she didn't want to talk about it either. The girl just looked up at Mr. LA, failing to meet his eyes and failing to say anything.

Lavernius could see that the topic was uncomfortable for the girl, but decided to push on and get it over with. "I think the Mangler has a black card with a god on it." He saw the hospital right in front of them. "I don't know which, but that's why he can turn into that monstrous form. He has the powers of a god given to him by the Olympus Group. I don't know who they are yet. I'm planning to figure that out."

Eddie Burrows

"I've cut ties with family and friends and I live alone." Eddie said with a chuckle. "Hell I think only my landlord remembers that I exist and that's just so she can get the rent!"

Eddie eased the slim rod of metal into the lock and slowly moved it around. He hit the mechanisms inside precisely and the lock clicked open. Eddie opened the door at an almost lethargic pace and slipped his glock out. Once it was open just wide enough for his body to fit through, he squeezed his way into the condo. Eddie padded quietly into the main living room which had an ugly shade of tan on the walls and a horrific shade of crimson red on the carpet. He saw a woman in a yellow bikini sprawled out in a recliner with an empty bottle of liquor clutched to her chest. A couple, one man and a woman, were stretched out on the couch half naked. And there were three more people laid out in different sections of the floor.

Eddie put his glock away and walked into the kitchen. He slid open the drawers looking for the utensils before finding a long, slim knife. Eddie reentered the living room and made his way over to the back room. He tried the knob and felt it turn. Eddie switched the knife between hands and carefully open the door. Two men and a woman were laid out on the bed where a threesome most likely happened. There were various vials, tubs, and straps littering the table and floor. Eddie spotted a closet at the other end of the room where a closet stood alone. He made his way over to it and found it, expectedly, locked. Eddie jimmied the lock with the knife and pulled the door open. A young woman about 16 years old was unconscious at the bottom of the closet with signs of struggle on her body and a syringe in her arm.

Eddie pulled the needle out and put his ear to her chest. There was a faint heartbeat. He grasped both of her arms and pulled her out of the closet. There was a ruffling sound behind him and Eddie peeked over his shoulder seeing one of the men from the bed getting up. He let go of the girl and quickly padded over to the man. Eddie grabbed the surprised man and put his hand over his mouth. The man tried to scream, but the former cop wasn't having it and stabbed him in the chest. Eddie mentally cursed before going back to the young woman and pulling her to her feet despite her being dead weight. He slung her arm around his shoulders and dragged her out into the living room. Eddie did a quick count to make sure everyone was accounted for, then dragged her into the front hall of the condo and finally outside of it. He placed her next to the door and let out a sigh of relief. Then, Eddie turned malicious eyes back on to the apartment. He quietly crept back in.

Eddie reentered the kitchen and began to look through the cabinets, careful not too make too much noise. He sighed as he didn't find anything of interest and pondered on what to do. Eddie looked at the sink and got an idea. This condo was on ground level so their neighbors shouldn't be bothered. Eddie walked over to the sink and turned both knobs to on. He quickly made his way into the bedroom bathroom and turned that sink on too. Eddie entered the front hallway that was wooden and slightly raised above the carpet of the rest of the condo. He watched as the water began to soak through the carpet, then he kneeled down and broke the cover off of a outlet. Eddie carefully removed the plug and pulled the wires out. He leaned back as he stepped on them (lucky his shoes have rubber soles) and they began to spark. Then, Eddie dropped the wire on to the carpet. The water was starting to leak on to the wood, so he took that as his cue to leave.

Eddie silently exited the apartment and closed the door. He saw the still unconscious young woman and dragged her to her feet once more. Eddie took her out of the side entrance, making sure to pull the fire alarm along the way, and saw the man he had weaned the information about her off of, trying to sell drugs to a teenager. He gave no second thought as he produced his glock and shot the drug dealer in the back of the head. Then, Eddie walked over to his car and put the girl in the backseat. As he strapped her in, he could here screams and the lights in the building flickering.

Eddie's eyes suddenly turned cold and his words vicious. "But, you know what? You are all weak. Coming here to share stories and garner sympathy. It's pathetic. Why don't you gain some real strength and help yourselves. My addiction? Can actually help others. Yours? Is helping no one, but yourself. Get over it. Stop being mad you can't score your next fucking hit and do something with yourselves. The only one who can change you is YOU!" Eddie made his disgust known as he hopped off stage and walked up the aisle.

Lavernius could see that the topic was uncomfortable for the girl, but decided to push on and get it over with. "I think the Mangler has a black card with a god on it." I don't know who they are yet. I'm planning to figure that out."

The man kept talking. Oh, he was really pushing her now. The Mangler has a black card that gave him the power to turn into some monster?

"S-Seems likely." Sunni said in a small voice, opening the hospital doors and walking through.

She made sure to keep the door open for Mr. LA. Well, there seemed to be no other excuse as to why this monster would exist. Sunni shuddered. The girl then rushed up to the people at the office, but lacked the confidence to say anything. Sunni opened her mouth, then closed it. She looked over at Mr. LA, her face flushed.

Zane

"Yo, so what do you guys think of the Devils?  They pretty cool right?"  A young man named Brick said as he greased up his jet black hair.  "Would be so fucken bomb if I got accepted into their ranks, amirite?"  Brick turned to face the other young men sitting on the steps leading up to the High School.  An African-American kid with tired eyes grunted as he lit a cigarette.  "Psh... they're a bunch of losers..."  The dark-skinned kid said as he blew smoke.  The black kid goes by Spike, real name is Joe Bags.  "You guys are retarded... It's all 'bout the MacNessa gang man... they got class... unlike them Devils,"  A tan kid with a shaved head said as his head followed a passing girl's butt... he whistled as she passed by. The tan boy's name is Eduardo.   "Yo, Zane man, why you so quiet?  Which gang do you think is better?"  Eduardo asked Zane.  Zane looks like he was awoken from a daydream.  "Huh?  Oh.... uh... fuck guys, I don't know..."  The green haired Zane said as he tilted his glasses up and rubbed his temple.  "Heh, I bet Zane can be his own gang... he's fucken savage... didya hear he beat up the Zuchezzi brothers last week?  All by himself!"  Brick pat Zane's back.  "Hey yo guys look!  It's those kids from Gladstone..."  Eduardo pointed at three boys walking together and smoking cigarettes.  The one at the front seems to be giving Zane's boys the stink eye.

"What are they doin on our turf?"  Brick looked nervous.  "Probably came to get revenge on the Zuchezzi brothers... watch out Zane..."  Eduardo looked at Zane.  Zane gave the arriving challengers a taunting grin.

Two of the Gladstone boys pulled out pocketknives and revealed their blades.  The Gladstone boys rushed over to attack the Midwood boys.  "Whoa!  You dumbasses serious right now?"  Eduardo said as he dodged the lunge attack from one of the rival thugs.  Spike threw down his cigarette and stomped on it before delivering a punch to a rival's gut.  However one of the kids managed to slash Spike's arm giving him a bloody wound.  "Spike!"  Eduardo said before he gets struck down by a well placed punch to the jaw.  Brick held out his hand and tried to back away.  Zane placed his hand on Brick's shoulder.  He gave him a confident grin before stepping into the fray.

"This is the dork who beat up the Zuchezzis?"  The toughest looking thug said as he pointed at Zane.  "Some four eyed chink?  He's gonna Math us to death?"  The thugs laughed.

Zane blurred and dashed in front of the thug.  He delivered a punch up the guy's stomach.  "Shut the fuck up and fight, asshole..."  Zane said as he savored the guy's shocked face.

"GYAAAHHH!"  The smallest thug came rushing at Zane with a knife.  He manages to slice the surface of Zane's shoulder.  Zane winced as the guy aimed the knife at Zane's eyes.  Zane backed off quickly and punched the kid's hand.  Causing the kid to lose the knife.  He then delivered three quick punches to the guy's jaw.  The biggest thug appeared behind Zane and tackled him.  The thug straddled Zane and punched his face over and over.  Zane started to see red.  Before he lost consciousness, he grabbed the knife on the floor and shanked the giant's thigh, causing the guy to roll over to Zane's side.  Zane got up, regaining focus, and straddled the giant.  He delivered 10 punches at the guys face until he fainted.  He then looked at the last guy who seem to be backing off slowly.  The rest of the Midwood boys, seeing Zane's savagery, gained morale and got up.  Zane grinned at the last Gladstone kid with bloody teeth.  He stood up and spat blood into the floor.

Brick and Eduardo grabbed on to the guy as Zane approached.

"NO!  P-Please!  Don'! come any closer!"  The guy pissed his pants.

Zane cracked his knuckles before sounds of fists hitting bone echoed throughout the street.

"You all should be expelled!"  The principal roared at Zane as the boys sat in his office.  Their faces and arms covered in band-aids and bandages.

The lecture went on and on.  The event happened outside of school hours and the kids pleaded self-defense.  The principal couldn't do shit,

Zane left the office with a blank stare.  His arms covered with bandages.

Helene was talking a leisurely walk around town, mainly because she didn't feel like baking or reading. Besides, it was a good thing to take a walk and breath fresh air once in a while. The girl was deep in thought. What was she thinking about? Nothing much, really. The pains of homework. The joys of nature. The loneliness- The sweetness of French macrons. Helene had gone to France over the summer, like she always did during summer break. She missed how cheerful and friendly her cousins were and how kind her aunts and uncles were. And the pastries. If only Helene could make sweets that delicate and delicious! Ah yes, Helene was a lover of sweet stuff. Science studies showed that the body reacted to the sugar like it did with cocaine. Helene honestly didn't like the thought of that, but she had to admit that was an addict. The girl was walking along when she saw her school. Helene stopped to look at it. It seemed so peaceful when there were no students. Helene smiled a bit, but that smile disappeared when she noticed a boy walking out of the school with bandages. A boy with green hair and eyes... Ah, Zane. Helene's old friend.

The boy that had ignored her. Helene's face was painted with worry, but at the same time it seemed awfully natural to see him all bruised up. She knew he was part of some gang and that he loved fighting. Helene at first considered walking away... but she wanted to talk to Zane.

"A-Are you okay?" she asked. "Did something really bad happen?"

She was nervous.

She was nervous.

"Hey Helene..."  Zane smiled roughly and put a hand on her head.  He ruffled her hair a bit before he made his hand retreat in his pocket.  "How was thanksgiving?"  He spat on the ground away from Helene and kept on walking.  There seems to be a lot on his mind.

Lavernius smiled down at the girl to ease her anxiety and then looked at the nurse behind the desk. "Excuse me, Miss. Did a Mr.." He just realized he didn't know the man they were looking for's name. LA looked at the girl to fill in the blank.

Helene was almost overjoyed when Zane ruffled her hair. She hid that. The boy had asked how was her Thanksgiving was, in which the girl replied,
"It was normal..."

Her eyebrows furrowed. He seemed... troubled.

"Are you okay, Zane?" She asked, following the boy... man? Young adult. She followed the young adult. "You... You know that I'm willing to listen to whatever problems you have..."

The girl's gentle voice was filled with genuine concern for Zane. She didn't want him to be unhappy or stressed.

Sunni blinked.

"Uh... Jim." She said, remembering the letter. "Jim Irons. Did he come by here?"

The girl was nervous.

Zane

Zane grinned.  "Normal huh?  Sounds nice..."  He brought a hand over to the back of his head and scratched it.  He looked around and saw that nobody was there.  "Errr... nothing... No problems here Helene..."  He looked at Helene through half closed eyes.  "Me and the boys just got into a brawl with the Gladstone kids, that's all..."  He raised the arm where he got slashed and peeled the band-aid a bit.  "just got a bit roughed up that's all... these wounds heal fast!"  He said as he retreated his hands back to his pockets.  "Long time no see huh?"  Zane made one hand appear again to push up his glasses.

Eduardo, Brick and Spike came walking from a distance.  "Yo Zane!  That bitch Skinner couldn't touch us huh?  He kept ranting on and on... makes me sick..."  Brick said as he pat Zane's back.  "Wanna go get some beers?"  He asked before looking at Helene.

"WHOOAAA... who is this fine piece of ass?"  Eduardo licked his lips as he moved towards Helene.  "Friend of yours, Zane?"  Eduardo teased.

"Not my friend..."  Zane said as Eduardo wrapped his arms around Zane's shoulder... looking at Helene with threatening eyes.

"You talking to her, she's got to be your friend, Zane... she's cute... is she single?"  Eduardo winked at Helene.

"Cut it out, Ed..."  Zane said under his breath.

The other two sighed.

"OOOOOHHH!!!"  Eduardo let go of Zane and wrapped his arms around Helene.  "C'mon man, chill... I'm just sayin we invite her over to my place... grab a couple of drinks... get her t-shirt wet... yknow?"  Ed grinned and Zane frowned.

"Ed, please, just back the fuck off..."   Zane clenched his fists.

"Cmon guys..."  Brick looked back and forth at Zane and Ed... trying to diffuse the situation.

"Idiots..."  Spike said as he lit a cigarette.

"WWWOOOOOT!"  Eduardo teased.  "You want to fuck her, huh Zane?  She's your bitch right?"  Eduardo looked at Zane's clenched fist.  "Ooh I'm so scared... you want to hit me Zane?  Wanna hit me?" Eduardo dropped his hand and grabbed one of Helene's breasts and winked one eye at Zane.

BAM!

Eduardo fell on his ass behind Helene.  Zane's fists let out steam from the impact against Eduardo's face.

"FUCK YOU ZANE!  YOU ACT SO BIG MIGHTY ALL THE TIME!  MAKES ME SICK!"  Eduardo spat blood at Zane's shoe as he picked himself up for a counter attack.

"Guys calm down, stop!"  Brick got between the two.

Eduardo sighed and combed back his hair.  "I'm through, I'mma go home... some pal you are Zane..."  Eduardo said as he walked away.

Brick gave Zane a face before walking away as well.

Spike stayed and blew smoke away from Helene.  "Uh... sorry about my idiot friends..."  The african-american boy said before walking away... eyes fixed on his phone.

Zane spat on the floor and started walking away as well.

MEANWHILE AT THE HOSPITAL

The desklady nodded at Sunni's inquiry.  "You mean James Irons?  He just got out of the emergency room right now.  I'm afraid he's still in a coma... we can't let you see him tonight.  You can try and visit him tomorrow maybe?  Are you the Commissioner's children?"  The lady asked curiously.  "Don't worry, he's in good hands!"

Lavernius smiled at the nurse and leaned over the desk slightly. "We are looking for James Iron, this is his daughter Sunni. I'm just the babysitter, Lavernius Alexander. But, please call me LA." He put his best charm into his words and smiled easily. "It would be wonderful if she could see him now. I can wait until tomorrow."

Hospital

"Sorry guys... we really need to let him rest.  They just finished an operation that fixed his ribs.  If you guys try to wake him up, he might get worse, how about you guys just visit him tomorrow?  He'll still be here when you come back!"  The lady gave the two a hospitable smile.

((Nows the time to think about where Sunni should stay... both her "homes" are active crime scenes))

Helene frowned, not entirely convinced that he was okay. She was about to open her mouth to reply when his friends came over... and one of them started... harassing her verbally? Now she was often catcalled and commented on, but it still shocked her. She sort of stayed quiet as she watched the scene unfold, slightly disgusted. She shuddered when the man wrapped his arm around her. She shivered even more when her friend cursed. It was uncomfortable to be the subject of such topics... Suddenly she was getting groped. Holy cow. Helene's face burned up as she let out an eep, and was surprised again when Zane punched the pervert. She suddenly remembered when Zane had defended her from bullies before and how happy she was when the boy had cared about her. Yet for some reason Helene wasn't happy. She was worried for Zane. She was also extremely disturbed by the fact that a stranger had just walked up and touched her breast. Zane wasn't hanging out with the right people. Suddenly everyone was leaving...

"I-I'm sorry!" Helene called out after Zane.

I shouldn't have came here...

"A-And thank you..."

Helene hoped with all her heart that Zane would turn around and smile for her.

Meanwhile Sunni, who had stayed quiet, was devastated that she couldn't see Mr. Irons. Now what Mr. LA said about her being his daughter wasn't true... but it was a nice thought.

He had a child... Sunni was still confused over why passing was a bad thing.

She could ask Mr. Irons later. But the lady wasn't letting her get to Mr. Iron.

"It... It's okay..." Sunni said gently, giving a cheerful smile that hid her weariness and disappointment. "Seeing him tomorrow is better than never seeing him again."

She then turned around. She checked her pockets. Only her phone. The girl wanted to cry, and it took all her willpower not to.

Elsa raised an eyebrow at Ana's spiel.  She closed her eyes and let out a hearty chuckle.  "My... my... looks like we've got off on the wrong foot here, Ana..."  She shook her head at Ana's accusations.  "Alright, If you see me as someone who might have ulterior motives, then go ahead and think so.  But I'm going to remind you once again that I work for an organization that has the preservations freedoms in mind... you might think it's poppycock but this entire program is dedicated to making you as free as you can be.  Now safety on the other hand isn't one of our directives.  A dog on a leash can never be free.  A child in the crib will never be free.  There is a difference between safety and freedom... we choose to stand for the latter..."  Elsa sighed.  "Think about this, Ana..."  Elsa walked around Ana.  "You could have done anything with your powers... you can use it peacefully without harming anyone at all, you could have used it to save someone you love... you could even have put it away and not used it at all..."  Elsa gave her a Mona Lisa-esque smile.  "But you chose to use this card for your... bloodstained hobby.  Even though you could have just carried on with your vigilantism without the help of our card, you decided to drag Nemesis into your crusade of "Justice""  Elsa made finger quotes on the word "Justice".  "Ha! Do you think that YOU are the goddess Nemesis?  That you are some sort of vengeful avatar that acts for her sake?  Please don't make me laugh..."  Elsa chuckled.  "Lets be frank with it, shall we?  You are a criminal... just like these..."  Elsa pointed at the corpses of the gang members slain.  "You may have illusions of honor and dignity... but in the end you are just like them!  If someone else had taken the Nemesis card, they may take it upon themselves to honor the goddess and take YOU down!"  Elsa smiled confidently.  "Lets drop the hypocrisies and accusations... and call this what it is.  It is a hobby of a deranged psychopath who managed to touch a Black Card and tap into it's most basic offerings.  If the fact that our organization gave these out to unsavory characters... then why not give it back to us?  I'm sure you can pretend to be Batman just fine without dragging Nemesis into your mess!"  Elsa held out a hand tauntingly.  "You can give back the card anytime you want..."

Anastasiya a bit tired over the whole trustworthiness of organization simply shrugged her shoulders and said "I think if the whole way your group worked was at least a bit less secretive, and were more transparent I would have an easier time trusting you and your group. But for now unless you intend to be that way, we can agree to disagree there. But, I do find the whole matter of trying to trust humanity with such capability dangerous..." Then listening to Elsa, Anastasiya couldn't help but chuckle once again at Elsa's ignorance of her past and her reasons for doing what she does. It seemed almost morbid to think about that and laugh, yet it seemed funny that Elsa would throw out such concepts as to what she would do with such a card. "I am sorry, but you truly don't know anything about me except most likely when I picked up that card... If you knew my past, and how I have had to deal with it all these years, I would hope you wouldn't be so closed minded so as to not see why I am who I am today... Because let me tell you, I am one angry woman, and I am angry at those who exploit others and will cause physical, or mental harm. And it all stems from my own life, and so, getting the card, it's a card based on a goddess for bringing revenge, retribution and justice to those who have done bad... And for 8 years I have held similar principles, to do so, all for the greater good of the world. And holy hell if 16 years ago I could use this card to save my fathers life, by hell and back I would use it..." This is when she glared at Elsa again with those cold eyes of her's. "Vigilanteism is based around normal people for whatever reason decide they are going to help the greater good of humanity by bringing in our own sense of justice to for the purpose of ending or coming close to the end of crime, some are more violent than others. I stand on the stance that equal or similar punishment is true justice, for all we know Nemesis could hold a different perspective on that than I do, or even you... I don't care how you feel about my perception of justice, but I know that I happened to stumble on the card and I took it upon myself to utilize the card to assist me, I will admit I am skeptical of this whole organization, but, I know that good people have stumbled upon other cards and are probably using it for the greater good against those that would use it for malicious intent. And I do know that Nemesis would support those who hold good intent and would wish to bring down deserved justice..." Anastasiya very simply rolled her eyes at Elsa with her thinking Anastasiya thought of herself as Nemesis remarking "I am surprised you would think I would be so self-centered and arrogant to think I was her... And to be honest, anyone who harbors vengeful thoughts, or things of the nature already play into her hand, the desire for vengeance and retribution is universal... Everyone has honestly felt that way, at least once... I know that I will never be a true Goddess, I know that me and many others can come close, yet we will always have to know our plave... But I chose to base myself around her to make a difference while having something I can admire and be more like. It's an unorthodox approach but it's benefitted myself." She then listened carefully to Elsa's next lines, not letting it get to her. She calmly said "You don't know whether that would be honoring her, I don't know it either... I do know that once again, I may be a deranged psychopath for all I know, yet I use it for the greater good and don't go murdering innocent people I know I am still on the right path... You could consider it criminal, but then I suppose the executors who kill convicts on death row are criminals too... And once again, you got some bad people running around with the cards, you got some good people running around with it too... I am one of those who are going to have to clean up to bad messes that come up, therefore your product is under my care and will be used to help clean up the mess. I am not going to give it up over pride, I will hold onto it to keep the world from tearing itself apart..."

Elsa

"You are free to concoct as many conspiracy theories as you want, my dear Ana..."  Elsa shrugged.  "In the end you will not relinquish the card, so when it comes down to it... you are willing to participate in our game..."  Elsa's face looks dismissive and carefree.  "We choose not to interfere with any of our participant's plans and were sticking to that!"  She tucked a lock of hair behind her ear.  "I know, I know... yes... yes... you have a dark backstory.  I mean around 65% of all our participants have some Batman-esque sob story they want to throw at me too.  They tell me they're different... they're using these powers for good... the other participants are evil and must be stopped.  Truth is darling, you aren't the only protagonist in this comic book, you accuse the Mangler of being evil, but maybe in their eyes they see things very similarly as you... I mean you both kill people... you both sulk around in the dark..."  Elsa sighed.  "But Alas, I'm not here to make enemies... sorry for cutting deep there Ana, I'm just here to see how you're doing... and It looks like you're doing quite fine,"  Elsa smirked.  "Lets put philosophy and ethics aside shall we?  Those who study Ethics never really get anywhere in life... the world doesn't revolve around ethics and morals, darling, who the heck cares what you fight for?  Who the heck cares what the Mangler fights for?"  Elsa shrugged again.

Zane

Zane stopped walking and sighed.  He looked up at the sky as if he's surrendering.  "Hey Helene... uh... you down to get some boba or something?"  The word rolled out so awkwardly from his lips. Boba... Boba...  The word felt so silly and effeminate... he hated saying it.  "Sorry bout my pals... come on, I got cash..."  He kept walking.

Helene's eyes sparkled.

"Yes!" She laughed, running towards Zane.

Boba... Bubble Tea... Tapioca... Helene and some of her Asian friends bought it once in a while. The sweet drink was a favourite of Helene, right behind Starbucks. She walked next to him.

"I haven't drank boba in a while," She decided to converse. "Do you know any good or new flavours they have?"

Zane

Zane flinched and  blushed lightly as he listened to the way Helene pronounced boba.  He adjusted his glasses and kept walking.  "I dunno... I always get the same thing..."  he said as he avoided making eye contact.

The two reached the boba place.  Its a small hole in the wall joint with lots of posters of colorful tapioca drinks.  The two stood in front of a chubby college aged man with a ponytail and an apron.  "I'll get... uh... the macha green tea with boba..."  Zane flinched when he said boba as if recoiling from the sound of his own voice.

"Alright, you guys together?"  The cashier asked.

"Together..."  Zane repeated.  Paused.  And blushed when he heard what he just said.

"Okay... how bout you miss?  What would you like?"  The man asked.

"Hmmm..."  The man adjusted his glasses and looked at Zane.  "I'm sorry if this sounds rude sir, but have I seen you before?  You look familiar somehow..."  The man rubbed his chin.

"NO!  It's my first time here!"  Zane immediately responded.

"I swear I saw you before..."  The cashier facepalmed trying to remember.  "Okay miss, what would you like?"

Helene smiled, as the two walked to the boba place. She looked around. There were many posters of colourful tapioca drinks. It was cute. She looked over at Zane when he ordered his boba. Helene blushed when Zane said they were together. Together... The man asked what she wanted. The man then went on about how he recognized Zane, in which Zane insisted it was his first time. Helene doubted that, it the thought of Zane going there occasionally was sort of cute, in a funny sort of way.

"Uh... Mango tea. With boba." Helene loved the word boba.

Boba was such a silly name, it was so much fun to say! Boba boba boba boba. Boba.

"Do we just sit somewhere?" She asked.

Zane

Zane took out his wallet and paid the man.  "Okay, one mint boba and one mango tea boba comin' up"  The young man gave one last suspicious look before getting to work on the drinks.  Zane turned to face Helene.  "Yeah, lets sit over here..."  Zane got up on a high table with high stools... it only had room for two people.  The man was making a lot of noise in the back, making the drinks for his only two customers.

"It's been a long time, how was France?  Hows your mom and dad?"  Zane said as he looked down at the table.  The sound of the boba machines made him look in that direction.

Helene nodded and sat next to Zane. The sound of boba being made was rather loud, but Helene ignored it. Zane had asked how France was and how her mom and dad was. Helene thought back to France and how pleasant it was to be surrounded by her cousins.

"Uh... France is nice," Helene said. "The food there is pretty good. My parents are fine... Mom's still pushing me to go for Harvard."

Helene then asked,

"What are you doing these days?" Helene asked. "You seem to be pretty busy."

She was actually pretty curious what Zane did, other then pick fights with his... friends...

The last man that Anastasiya knocked out earlier woke up, and soon realized that he was also tied! He looked at the two women and quickly exclaimed. "Uh-oh. I'm in deep, ain't I?" Realizing he was in trouble. The man's tone was rather flamboyant and chilled for what was going on. The man looked around and tried to struggle against the ties for several seconds, then realized it was completely fruitless. "Well, I gave it everything I could. Can't ask for more than that." He wasn't sure if the women were gang members from another gang, or undercover police officers... then again - What police officer sneaks up to a suspect and chokes him to unconsciousness... and what police officer kills two other suspects with a whip? "Anyway, you're messing with Mephistopheles. I mean, not that I care. I'm just warning ya' - You mess with the boss? It's your funeral, girls."
