Episode 2: The Wolf of New York

Helene nodded and sat next to Zane. The sound of boba being made was rather loud, but Helene ignored it. Zane had asked how France was and how her mom and dad was. Helene thought back to France and how pleasant it was to be surrounded by her cousins.

"Uh... France is nice," Helene said. "The food there is pretty good. My parents are fine... Mom's still pushing me to go for Harvard."

Helene then asked,

"What are you doing these days?" Helene asked. "You seem to be pretty busy."

She was actually pretty curious what Zane did, other then pick fights with his... friends...

Zane

"Harvard huh?  I think you can do it, you were always smarter than me in class,"  Zane said as the vendor placed two cups on the counter and dinged the bell.  "One large mint tea boba and one large mango tea boba!"  The man said before retreating to the back room.

Zane picked up the drinks and placed it n the table between him and Helene.  "What do you mean?"  He asked nonchalantly.  "I still dunno what I'm gonna do after high school, having trouble finding a job... not been busy at all..."  He said as he punctured the top of the boba with a straw.

"Thanks," Helene said when Zane placed the boba on the table.

Helene punctured the top of the drink. She took a sip. The sweet taste of the mango tea was marvelous, and the chewy boba seemed to make the whole drink much more fun and delicious.

"Well you look pretty busy," Helene said. "Ever since you started hanging out with the delinquents... like sometimes you aren't at home during the evening."

Helene took another sip of the sweet boba.

"I guess I don't have to worry too much about you," she said with a nervous laugh. "You're still a good kid. Man. Person."

Elsa

"You are free to concoct as many conspiracy theories as you want, my dear Ana..."  Elsa shrugged.  "In the end you will not relinquish the card, so when it comes down to it... you are willing to participate in our game..."  Elsa's face looks dismissive and carefree.  "We choose not to interfere with any of our participant's plans and were sticking to that!"  She tucked a lock of hair behind her ear.  "I know, I know... yes... yes... you have a dark backstory.  I mean around 65% of all our participants have some Batman-esque sob story they want to throw at me too.  They tell me they're different... they're using these powers for good... the other participants are evil and must be stopped.  Truth is darling, you aren't the only protagonist in this comic book, you accuse the Mangler of being evil, but maybe in their eyes they see things very similarly as you... I mean you both kill people... you both sulk around in the dark..."  Elsa sighed.  "But Alas, I'm not here to make enemies... sorry for cutting deep there Ana, I'm just here to see how you're doing... and It looks like you're doing quite fine,"  Elsa smirked.  "Lets put philosophy and ethics aside shall we?  Those who study Ethics never really get anywhere in life... the world doesn't revolve around ethics and morals, darling, who the heck cares what you fight for?  Who the heck cares what the Mangler fights for?"  Elsa shrugged again.

As Anastasiya shook brushed her hair back a moment she realized she had little droplets of blood in her otherwise pure blonde hair, being tainted by the crimson... She sought to fix that as she heard Elsa speak. She then smiled and said, "That's quite true, I am..." She then sighed as Elsa mentioned others had sob stories too. "I would expect as much, but if you have heard something like that a million times, wouldn't you have learned by now why I do what I do? And yes, I probably am not the only person out there to save the day... I just happened to be one in that 65% that happened to see some others that way based on their actions..." She actually laughed at the joke Elsa made comparing them both. "Well, I don't kill criminals 24/7... I only kill those who have killed others... But maybe sulking in the dark is right, maybe a little bit there." Truly smiling at it. She nodded in agreement with Elsa "I think we can both agree on that, we have no reason to truly jump down each other's throats, although I am still skeptical I can think we can at least respect one another eh? Also, you didn't cut too deep, though I will admit I jabbed back quite nastily too so I return the courtesy of an apology to you as well. And good to see I passed this test." Winking at her as she joked. "I agree, it does tend to seem that ethics and morals try to have others find decency, yet it always seems to be broken and becomes taboo. Nonetheless people are always going to tell me I am wrong, and you are wrong so screw them for all we care..."

The last man that Anastasiya knocked out earlier woke up, and soon realized that he was also tied! He looked at the two women and quickly exclaimed. "Uh-oh. I'm in deep, ain't I?" Realizing he was in trouble. The man's tone was rather flamboyant and chilled for what was going on. The man looked around and tried to struggle against the ties for several seconds, then realized it was completely fruitless. "Well, I gave it everything I could. Can't ask for more than that." He wasn't sure if the women were gang members from another gang, or undercover police officers... then again - What police officer sneaks up to a suspect and chokes him to unconsciousness... and what police officer kills two other suspects with a whip? "Anyway, you're messing with Mephistopheles. I mean, not that I care. I'm just warning ya' - You mess with the boss? It's your funeral, girls."

Anastasiya afterwards realized that that one gang member who was unconscious woke up, she glanced at him with that cold piercing gaze of her's and said "I'd say you were in deep shit when I knocked you unconscious... But that's as bad as its going to get for you, unless you try to pull something funny..." She then stopped leaning against the crates and began walking over to the man as he struggled. "Well if that's everything you could, well then... actually I don't have anything to say because it's pathetic either way..." Listening to his threat she chuckled and sarcastically said. "Oh no, I am so fucking scared right now! Did you not take the hint that two of your men are dead? I don't think at this rate I need to let you know, but you're going to relay a message to your boss... You're going to let him know that he has pissed off Nemesis once again, and that she is going to unleash a hellish trail of vengeance in her wake coming for him... Also, don't think you realized but only I touched you and your friends... Chasing after her," Pointing to Elsa. "Is going to be a fool's errand, going after me is going to lead you nowhere, but with deadly strings attached at the end of it... Now you are going to scram to your rat hole and tell him the news..." By this time she began to untie the rope around him, if he were to check for his weapons he would find none as they were stripped off his person. She then unholstered her bloody whip again, with the metal flayed part glistening with red and the steel color in the dim light. "You have 10 seconds to get out of here before the whip lashes down on your back... 9..." She began ticking down,

Zane raised an eyebrow and stopped sucking on the straw when Helene mentioned how he's never home during the evening.  A boba got stuck on the straw.  "Helene you've been checking on me if I get home in the evening?"  He asked her blushing slightly.  "The guys aren't delinquents, were just rough around the edges," Zane said as he mixed the drink with the straw.  "Hey uh... When I said you weren't my friend... Uh I.... I didn't mean it..."  Zane avoided eye contact. "Also Eduardo's thinks he's a funny guy... Sorry about what happened."  Zane sipped boba.  "I know we've been growing kinda distant since high school, and I hope you don't think I'm acting like some jerk... You know that I'll always be here when you need me,".

Elsa simply smiled with amusement as Ana got back to work, the gangster mentioned her but she did not reply.  She simply watched as Ana threatened the man and assumed total dominance over the thug.  Else felt her heart skip a beat excitedly as she watched.  Wow... She's just so exciting to watch... She's giving me goosebumps.  Elsa simple watched as Anastasiya counted down, she crossed her arms while standing behind Ana, watching as the action unfolded in front of her.  Of course Elsa knew who This 'Mephistopheles' character is, but.she chose not to disclose his identity to Ana.  Elsa wants to see how the resourceful Ana could possibly track and hunt down David.  My two favorite psychopaths going after each other's throats... How... Exciting!

Helene frowned, not entirely convinced that he was okay. She was about to open her mouth to reply when his friends came over... and one of them started... harassing her verbally? Now she was often catcalled and commented on, but it still shocked her. She sort of stayed quiet as she watched the scene unfold, slightly disgusted. She shuddered when the man wrapped his arm around her. She shivered even more when her friend cursed. It was uncomfortable to be the subject of such topics... Suddenly she was getting groped. Holy cow. Helene's face burned up as she let out an eep, and was surprised again when Zane punched the pervert. She suddenly remembered when Zane had defended her from bullies before and how happy she was when the boy had cared about her. Yet for some reason Helene wasn't happy. She was worried for Zane. She was also extremely disturbed by the fact that a stranger had just walked up and touched her breast. Zane wasn't hanging out with the right people. Suddenly everyone was leaving...

"I-I'm sorry!" Helene called out after Zane.

I shouldn't have came here...

"A-And thank you..."

Helene hoped with all her heart that Zane would turn around and smile for her.

Meanwhile Sunni, who had stayed quiet, was devastated that she couldn't see Mr. Irons. Now what Mr. LA said about her being his daughter wasn't true... but it was a nice thought.

He had a child... Sunni was still confused over why passing was a bad thing.

She could ask Mr. Irons later. But the lady wasn't letting her get to Mr. Iron.

"It... It's okay..." Sunni said gently, giving a cheerful smile that hid her weariness and disappointment. "Seeing him tomorrow is better than never seeing him again."

She then turned around. She checked her pockets. Only her phone. The girl wanted to cry, and it took all her willpower not to.

(hmmm...)

"Nothing we can do today, kid." Lavernius said looking down at the girl. They would have to comeback tomorrow. "Do you have somewhere else to stay until tomorrow. My guess is you were staying with him. Any friends that's parents will put you up for the night?" He was used to dealing with people since he had six nieces and nephews.

"Haha!" The thug laughed as Anastasiya untied him. He smiled tauntingly and said. "You've got yourself a deal, Missy! Still. Don't say I didn't warn ya' - Your funeral, pal." Leaving soon after, laughing at her attempts of what she would call bravery. The goon was very confident in his boss, knowing that the infamous Mephistopheles already had a surplus of ways to deal with situations like this. The thug made his way to the nearest lieutenant to report what happened.

Sunni nodded. She wanted to say with Mr. Nobuyuki.... and not with.... him...

"Are you going to see Mr. Irons tomorrow?" she asked out of curiosity.

Lavernius thought about ti for a few moments. Jim Irons had approached him and the Russian woman. "I definitely will be. He was going to talk with me about something before he ran off to deal with the Mangler. That's why I ended up there." He scratched the back of his head. "If you can stay with this guy.." LA looked at the other man who had waited outside and realized he didn't know his name. "Him. If you can stay with him, we can meet up in the morning here at the hospital. I've been staying at the Ryerson Hotel if something comes up. Just ask for me by name."

Zane glanced at her as she sipped boba.  She's so beautiful now. He tensed up slightly when he caught he eye.  He looked away and finished his drink.  Relaxing a bit he started to speak.  "Last time you were telling me about that one guy you got a crush on, were you able to talk to him?"  He looked back at her and gave her a teasing grin.  "What was his name again?"  Zane moved the straw around to get the last remnants of boba.  He sucked one up and chewed it.  "I remember Jenny though that guy was cute too..."  He said while chewing.

SHE WENT TO NOBU'S HOME SLEEP SLEEP TIMESKIP

Sunni got up extremely early the next day. Okay, that wasn't true, she woke up at 6:30 in the morning and then spent 30 more minutes trying to get ready. Sunni considered eating, but then she decided that breakfast could wait. She was out the door by 7:02. The girl walked towards the hospital as quickly as she could, using her phone as a GPS. She arrived there in a matter of... 30 more minutes. By then the girl was extremely hungry. Sunni looked around and for some reason, was attracted to a nearby tree. Sunni reached up towards its branches, and somehow in her hand an apple appeared. The girl picked it off and, trying not to think too much about it, ate it quickly. The girl walked into the hospital, threw the apple core in a nearby trash can, and decided to look around briefly for LA. If he wasn't here, Sunni could go in ahead.

Helene's eyes widened, and she blushed at remembering him... The girl buried her face in her hands, not wanting Zane to see her blush.

"What was his name again?"

"J-Jason." She said. "I-I don't like him all that much anymore."

She lifted her head from her hands, taking a sip from her boba. Jason was hilarious, silly... he was really good at basketball too...

"He already has a girlfriend, anyways."

The girl looked back at Zane with a pleasant smile.

"I remember Jenny though that guy was cute too..." Zane said while chewing.

"Hey, don't talk while chewing!" Helene said sternly, but in a friendly way. "Jenny's pretty nice. Her eyes are really pretty."

Helene loved Jenny's purple eyes... they were so rare and beautiful... No homo.

"D-Did you... like her?" Helene asked.

"Y-Yeah." Sunni nodded furiously.

"Oh yeah, Jason..."  Zane grinned and chewed the boba.  "He's with Carla now right?  He's kind of a scaredy cat last time I remembered him".  Zane flinched at Helene's comment about Jenny.  "Hey!  I thought she was more your friend, we're not that close at all!"  Zane protested.  "Besides, I'm younger than her... she treats me more like a little brother..."  He sighed.  "I wonder what she's doing nowadays.  She's always with you..."  He laughed.  "Haven't been texting her since she graduated?"

"I guess..." To be honest, Helene just stopped talking to anyone.

"You know, maybe we should try to talk to Jenny." Helene proposed. "I want to know what she's doing nowadays, too... She doesn't seem all that busy, but still."

Helene searched for another topic to talk about. She was halfway through her drink. She then remembered searching the news and learning about the recent Mangler activity.

"New York's a pretty dangerous place nowadays, isn't it?" Helene said. "Apparently a bunch of criminal activity is popping up now.... Some family getting murdered and some Mangler messing up an apartment..."

And yet for some reason, Helene felt absolutely safe, as if something so dangerous would never reach her.

Jennifer had one set goal in mind. Drive to a local library and do a bit of research on foreign languages. It seemed like such a simple task, and yet, this was the literal tenth time she'd stopped somewhere because she got sidetracked. And so far none of these stops had been more than just a complete wastes of time. She had absolutely no idea why she was getting sidetracked so much. "Ok, focus Jennifer. Go to library, check out books on greek and latin, and then do some snooping on what happened yesterday. See if you can figure out if anyone was brought in to the hospital yesterday around the time you were outside that apartment. That way, you can ask them a few questions... Well, unless they're unconscious or dead, in which case you just wasted your time. Wait, why the hell am I talking to myself?" She asks, seeming a bit confused. She shakes her head, sighing. "No time to dwell on that. Hmm... now that I think about it, it wouldn't take too long to figure out who owned that apartment, and then just look for them at the hospital nearest to that apartment. It'd probably take, like, ten or twenty minutes before I know who to look for and where to find them. Maybe I can get some answers as to what the hell happened there." She says to herself, taking a glance at her phone, which had the GPS app open. "Still about another ten minutes till I get to the library, if I don't get sidetracked." She mumbles to herself.

"Y-Yeah." Sunni nodded furiously.

Lavernius Alexander left the Ryerson hotel after a decent night of sleep and yawned loudly. He looked out at the street and a yellow cab pulled up in front of him as if it was a chariot from the gods. Okay maybe not similar to that. LA hopped in the back of the car and told the cabbie his destination. Every turn they made seemed to be the right one and they flowed easily through the traffic to the hospital. Lavernius paid the fare and got out. He walked up at the stairs and stopped at the top. In the reflection of the glass door, LA could see that his eyes were red. He stared at himself for a few moments before closing his eyes. Don't need luck anymore. Lavernius opened his eyes and was briefly shocked as his eyes returned to normal. It had worked.

Sunni had just so happened to see Mr. LA at the door... his eyes were red. The girl's eyes widened as she watched the man close his eyes and open them again. Now they were dark brown. Sunni blinked. Maybe she was paranoid? No, she could've sworn his eyes were red... The girl shook that out of her mind and ran up to the door, opening it with a cheerful smile.
"You came!" she said cheerfully.

It was rather forced as she still didn't trust Mr. LA, but she had to be nice.

Lavernius looked down at the girl from yesterday, Sunni, and wondered why she was afraid of him. Had she seen his red eyes. He wasn't sure how to feel about the fake cheer she put on when seeing him. "Of course I did." LA said with a genuine smile. He had actually taken a liking to the girl. "Nice to see you survived the night as well." Lavernius considered just heading in and leaving it alone, but stopped just inside the entrance. He turned towards Sunni giving her plenty of space and leaning down to eye level. "Sunni why are you afraid of me?"

Sunni smiled back at the man, but then was surprised when the man swooped down to her eye level and asked why she was afraid of him.

"One should be wary around strangers," She replied with a straight face.

It was true, after all.

"Well, let's go then!" the girl said with a smile.

Sunni turned and made her way to the office ( @IamNotLoki woooo).

"We're looking for Jim Irons." She said. "He should be in this hospital."

Anastasiya watched as the gang member went off, not having to get so as far as 6 by the time he went out to make a cocky threat to her as he went out. Anastasiya sighed as she holstered her whip again. "Well, that ends that little escapade... Now I have to head back to that one apartment... Don't know if you caught the news, but the Mangler got chased out, after trying to kill a teenage girl... Gotta get my bike which is still over there... Anyway, hope you enjoy the show 'cause war is gonna break loose and like I would most likely expect yet wouldn't want anyway, I don't want to hear anything you know about his boss. That way we make this second adventure all the more interesting eh? Anyway, I don't wish to bore any of us anymore, so I must bid you adieu Elsa. Do svidaniya." Waving behind her as she began to leave and exit the warehouse casually as if nothing occurred there, cleaning off some little drops of blood along the way. The deed was done, and as of today... A war had begun... She was going to commit herself to taking down both the Mangler and the demon's gang...

That next day.

Anastasiya had woken up early that morning, the night before had been a long night full of action. She finally had her jacket, and jeans cleaned, even though they were ripped... Her whip was cleaned of its blood and was fresh. She had looked herself over in the mirror as she looked over at her naked body, putting on her bra, she took particular notice at her skin, as it had quite the lively appearance and appeal to it the area that was cut up yesterday, had begun scabbing up although. She then put on a blue, white and red plaid shirt, with jeans and put on her whip holster which had the whip holstered, looking herself over as she did so. She had the plan to visit the hospital that Iron's was most likely admitted too. She genuinely cared for his safety in the moment and needed to know what was going on. And although it was mostly a casual visit and she mostly looked casual like she usually did, she took a lot of time pampering her face with some makeup trying to look good. Anastasiya quickly then made kasha (basically a Russian breakfast porridge with multiple grains in it) for herself quickly, as well as coffee, the elixir of her life. As she finished, she put on a gray leather jacket keeping an opening for the plaid shirt's exposure, put on her gloves, and her helmet as well as putting on some aviator sunglasses and her motorbike boots. And then began driving over, her mind dwelling on the night before and what happened. Finally, as she made it, she put up the kickstand making the bike stable, took off her helmet and gloves keeping her sunglasses on, she then began waltzing over to the entrance. Noticing LA and the girl from the night before, whom she considered friendlier type-faces. "Why hello there again, that was a hectic night eh? Anyway, I presume you two came to check up on, whatever his name is... Well, wait... Before I say anything like that, are we sure he has not kicked the bucket early yet? That just wouldn't be fun..." She said with some dark humor. As if she said nothing of the sort, she then looked to Sunni and warmly and genuinely asked as she brushed her blonde hair back, with her normally cold intimidating eyes looking warm with some compassion as she took off her sunglasses a moment. "Are you ok? Did you get hurt at all last night? I can only hope that you were not hurt or anything," Then addressing LA. She grimly stated putting her arms in her jacket pockets. "Sorry if I seemingly popped out as soon as I came in, I tried to not let that son of a bitch get away, but the Mangler escaped last night, unfortunately..."

Elsa smiled at Ana's departure like a proud mother watching her child go off.  "Until next time, Ana... " Elsa said before slowly fading away from vision.

The secretary wearing blue scrubs looked at Sunni, then at LA and Ana.  "You're friends of the commissioner?"  The middle aged woman asked through her round glasses.  He's in room 524, just go over to that hallway, take a left, and take the elevator up to the third floor.  Go down the hallway to your right and you should reach his room.  If you can't find him, just ask a doctor or a nurse about where room 524 is,". The lady motioned a security guard over who then provided the three with visitor's stickers.

"Yeah I dunno about Jenny... I don't even have her phone number... Been a while since I saw her," Zane said as he placed the boba cup down on the table.  "Would be nice if all three of us could hang out..."  He added.  The  cashier came back out texting someone on his cell phone.  He got a remote from under the desk and clicked the TV in his store on.

a news program played out:

"Startling news!  The body of a young officer was found in an abandoned warehouse this morning!  Bodies of suspected gang members have also been found!  Warning to our viewers!  Some of the images we will show you, although censored, are quite graphic!"

Zane watched as the news covered the story.

"another Mangler attack?  A husband and wife was found dead last night.  Their daughter seem to be in police protection, was this another mangler attack?"

Zane looked at Helene, "Don't worry about the mangler, if he decides to show his ugly face to you, I'll make sure to beat him to a pulp..."  Zane was interrupted by his phone alarm.

"Damn... Would love to talk some more but looks like I gotta go,". Zane walked over to throw away his cup.  "Let's talk again sometime alright?"

Sunni noticed a woman walk in. She looked so pretty... Oh, she was the woman with the whip from yesterday. There was something about the woman that made her look really really cool... Maybe it was her clothing and the sunglasses? Maybe it was her cold eyes? The woman was very powerful, Sunni remembered. She managed to tear the Mangler's arm off. Sunni smiled, suddenly feeling much safer. The woman asked if she was okay.

"I'm not hurt at all!" No, she wasn't hurt all.

Not after her parents died, and most definitely not after she got attacked by some six eyed wolf monster Mangler thing. Sunni looked back at a middle aged woman with round glasses. She was informed that Mr. Irons was in 524, which was on the third floor. A guard gave her a visitor stick, which Sunni placed on her shoulder.

"Let's go let's go let's go!" Sunni said.

She fast-walked (she figured that if she ran she would get yelled at by the secretary) down the hallway, took a left, and found the elevator. She then waited for everyone else.

Helene sipped her boba as she watched the news.

New York isn't safe at all.

When Zane said that he would protect Helene, she blushed and giggled. Then his phone rang, and he had to go.

"Yea, let's talk again." Helene smiled.

Helene decided that because Zane was leaving, that Helene would also leave. But she took a different route from normal, just for the sake of change. The girl carried on, with her boba in one hand (she's slow), overflowing with happiness. She went on when she noticed something on the ground. It seemed to be a black card... Helene picked it up, noticing writing on it. The writing seemed to just be symbols and markings. Maybe it was some ancient language?

It'd be cool to learn this language and read this card...

Helene put the card in her pocket and went along.
