Chapter 1: The Auditions

The bell rang at Middlebury High. The students walked down the halls of the school, some talking in groups, others talking with their boyfriends or girlfriends. Then there were people that prefered to be alone, next to their locker or leaned next to a wall.

The director of the school, decided to recreate the infamous Glee Club, a club where kids could expresse themselves while singing. A paper was made, where people could sign in their names and join the club.

After the student sign up with their first and last name, they will go for the auditorium for an audition.

The teacher that is leading the Glee Club, will be tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. on the auditorium, to decide who will belong to the club.

Mason was walking down the corridor alone when he spotted a piece of paper on the wall. It sparked his curiosity so he walked towards it. He grinned when he saw the words ' Glee Club ' wrote on the paper and took out his pen. Mason quickly wrote his name ' Mason Smith ' with messy handwriting.  He continued to walk to his next class thinking of what song he should audition with.

Hazel Moss

Hazel was currently on her way to her vocal lessons, something she had been doing for about two years now. At first, Hazel hated voice lessons. The instructor was harsh, and her mother had forced her into them. But after a few weeks, Hazel fell in love with singing. Of course, she really only sang with her vocal instructor, but she longed for singing else where. She actually had signed up to sing at a local cafe as a regular in the near future. But, she supposed she would see how the audition there went before she got her hopes up. Hazel had just pushed a hand through her hair, brushing it out of her face when someone bumped into her, knocking her to the side. She gave a short, apologetic smile to the other student, straightening herself up again against the wall. That's when she saw it.

This was it. A sign. Hazel couldn't help the smile that was plastered on her face as she quickly scribbled her name on the sign-up sheet. She glanced at the paper for a moment more before scampering off, already late to her vocal lesson. But, her instructor would be okay with it. She now had a reason to work on that audition song a bit more.

Baker Collins

Baker pressed a hand to his face in exasperation. He rubbed his forehead and turned away from his now-ex-girlfriend. Of course, she couldn't handle what he was throwing out. Most people couldn't. He understood though. He was tough to handle at times. He couldn't help that he wasn't a liar. People should have more heart in honesty these days, seriously. It wasn't his fault. She had asked him if he liked her lip piercing and he said no. Did it look good on her? Yes. Typically facial piercings looked nice. But he just in general didn't like them. They had a tendency to get in the way of...things. And so, she got angry and dumped him. No big deal. He cared about her and all but it was bound to happen sooner or later. Baker shoved his hands in his pockets and flicked his head, effectively moving his curls away from his eyes. All this meant was that he had more time to work out. More time to box.

More time to write music.

Speaking of music, his eyes caught on a girl he had seen in passing. Hazel Moss. Pretty thing. Kind of annoying. Not his type in any way shape or form. But he still appreciated her pretty face. Which lit up like a lantern at something.

After she hopped off, Baker walked over to the bulletin board she was just looking at.

Glee Club, huh? He mused to himself.

With raised eyebrows and a shrug, Baker signed his own name on the paper. Now that boxing season was over, he needed something new to do.

Carter Mason

Carter was looking down at her phone when she was walking through the doors. Her hair

was perfectly done. But she couldn't help but feel a small chill go through her body. Maybe it was

a bad idea to wear a tank-top and shorts to school, she thought to herself. But thats what her shawl was for, right?

Carter reached into her floral printed backpack and grabbed the pure white shawl out.

When she looked up she noticed that there was a paper hung up on the wall. Once she read

over it, she smiled brightly and quickly wrote "Carter Mason" in cursive. Yay! This will be

fun, she thought to herself

Liam Owens

The hall was nearly empty aside from a few last minute stragglers rushing to beat the bell. Liam wasn't concerned about being tardy; it was his third day at Middlebury and the teachers were being lenient with his fashionably late appearances. All the same, he knew he shouldn't press his luck. The last thing he needed was to be on the bad side of his teachers.

He stepped out into the corridor and began his steady trek to next period, noticing the various flyers posted sporatically along the walls. Cheerleading, Basketball, Robotics... finally he neared a taped yellow paper with a few scrawled names added at the top.  Glee Club? Sounded interesting enough. Liam lifted the pencil and jotted his name down. He may be painting a target on his back, but Liam figured he might as well make the year a memorable one. He managed to walk into third period only two minutes late... he would count that as progress.

Lyanna Mason

Lyanna strolls through the halls with earbuds in her ears, mentally going through her latest ballet routine in her head. Madame Laraux had assigned her Red Shoes for next week's showcase, a difficult piece. She had to practice constantly or she would never master it in time. The bell had just rung and so she felt good closing her eyes and going up onto her toes, humming a Twenty One Pilots song as she did a part of the ballet. She was spinning and spinning... until she ran into the wall. Something crinkled against her palm. Opening her eyes, she sees a sign up sheet for the Glee Club. With a small smirk, Lyanna takes out her pen and signs her name with a flourish, a star's signature, trained into her by her mother.

Jasmine stirred the 10th packet of sugar into her very small cup of coffee, the liquid becoming slowly more viscous. Her phone was propped up in front of her as she watched videos from the Glee Club past. Jas was ecstatic when the school director wanted to revive the Glee Club at this time. It was almost serendipitous that she started nearly a month ago, three weeks and two days ago to be exact. Her boyfriend did not share her enthusiasm of the Glee Club revival. Apparently he used to attend this school back in the day and remembered the Glee Club infamously. It wasn't only the time it would take away from him, but he didn't see it worth it. In his opinion, the club was hopeless and simply there as punching bags and joke material for the rest of the student body. Not that his opinion had any weight on her decision and excitability. Her dark eyes were so focused on the small screen she didn't see the other teachers at the table starring at her as she added yet another packet of sugar, sharing judgmental looks.

"Did you lose count?" The English teacher jolted Jasmine out of her reverie, Her eyes turned up from the phone to the few confused stares, some furrowed brows. At first she wasn't sure what they were referring to, but a look down at her cup explained it all.

"Oh," She could see how this can seem odd to some. "It's called a Cuban Coffee. Its very strong brewed coffee, often espresso and equal part sugar." There were a few nods of 'I see'. "Tastes like candy on the tongue and jet fuel to the body." Jas's friendly smile wasn't reciprocated by all. It was obvious she was still considered an outsider amongst the staff.

"I hear you're heading up the Glee Club. You know, you're not doing anyone any favors. Joining that club is social suicide for those kids and for good reason." The calculus teacher who was head of the mathematical club criticized, which Jasmine found ironic...its the math club for crying out loud, yet somehow Glee was on the bottom of the food chain?

"Thank you for that." Jasmine turned the screen on her phone off and pocketed it as she rose from the table. "At first this club was going to be just a safe place for these kids to learn and find their own voices in today's brutal society while winning nationals, but I just added a new itinerary to that list, and that's proving you and this school wrong." She downed her shot of Cuban coffee and turned on her heels with her syllabus in her arms.

Her dramatic exit was perfectly timed as the bell rang upon the teacher's lounge door closing behind her. She made her way to her biology class, her students pouring in with chatter and banter.

"Before I begin today's lesson on the difference between DNA and RNA I'd like to take a moment to self promote my own agenda. As you may or may not have heard Glee Club is starting up again run by yours truly, and I hope to see many of your smiling faces there. We will NOT be limited to show tunes, so fulfill your lemonade dreams to become Beyonce or Rihanna and show up in the auditorium at 11:30 sharp for auditions." There were one or two chuckles at her references. "Okay, who remembers what DNA stands for?"

Lorelai stopped at the bulletin, a routine she had gotten used to as she had to check for up and coming club meetings. She noted the usual suspects; cheerleading, football, volleyball, GSA. But a manila paper caught her eye, the broadway star inside her nearly jumped out of her skin when she read the worlds out loud to herself. Someone behind her giggled, but she didn't mind. Lorelai thought she was a pretty decent singer, and she was already in choir so it wasn't as if she was completely new to the show-choir scene. Immediately, the song Secondhand White Baby Grand came to mind. Yes. That would be her audition song. As a soprano she could easily reach every note in the piece and it was best performed as a solo in her opinion. She went through the words in her hand, writing her name below the few others who signed up, dotting her i's with hearts and pulling out her phone to check the time.

She made her way to her next class, sitting in the back of the room and tapping away an invisible piano the notes she'd have to sing. She hummed the rhythm, having ignored most of what her teacher had said.

It was his first day of school, and Trevor was already late, Not that he really cared about school, he didn't want to be labeled as the guy that was always late. He stopped in front of the doors that would lead to his first day of new 'adventure', Come on Trev you can do this he thought to himself They're just teenagers just like you. Trying to put on his best smile he walked through those doors and saw the halls completely bare, Well maybe if I was on time I could have made some grand entrance.

Trevor walks into the principles office and gets his class schedule and a guide around school. the guide-Trevor already forgot their name- stopped in front of a bulletin board covered in various colored paper, "Here you can sign up for sports and clubs, they're a great way to make friends for new students." Well it couldn't hurt to make a few friends Trevor thought to himself as he pulled out a pen signing up for football and basketball before his eyes were caught by a simple piece of paper with GLEE CLUB written on top, now Trevor had never been apart of a glee club but he knew that there was singing a instruments involved. I don't know if I'd count myself as much of a singer but maybe they could use a drummer he smiled to himself as he signed his name and then followed the guide for the rest of the tour.

Not even looking at the bulletin board, Logan made his way to class.  Biology was a decent enough class--definitely more enjoyable than Pre-Calc.  Then the teacher started in on Glee club, and he knew he was destined to be another child left behind, like the other... tens of students in this school.  Even after the teacher began the lesson in earnest, he could feel his attention span fuzzing over.

It wasn't that Logan was a slacker, or that she was a bad teacher, but he just felt it hard to concentrate when it was stuff they'd already learned.  Even English and Shop, his two favorite classes had a hard timeholding his focus when it was the same old stuff.  Idly, he began to doodle in the margins of his notebook as the class drifted over him.

When the students scattered around the hallway saw a small group of female teenagers (with a blonde wearing a glaring pink top right in the middle) waltzing down the aisle they quickly scurried into the side, giving way for the said girls. In the middle of the group is Natalie. A confident smirk adorned her face while she sported her newly bought pink colored sundress and white-thin rimmed sunglasses. This screaming color of her dress made her stood out from the group and so she gathered most of the gazes from the crowd, much to her delight.

Natalie likes a grand entrance and all but she was here not just for that, she was here to sign up for the Glee Club. "Alright girls, where is that paper?" she flicked her fingers and the girls beside her quickly looked for the sign-up paper. After a moment, the blonde girl found it pasted on a bulletin board. To her dismay, many people already wrote their name and the first line was already taken. "Not a problem." with a pull of her lips into a devious smirk, the girl pulled her pink pen out and wrote her name on the space before the first line. The size of the text almost rivalled the title sign on the very top just before her name.

"The Glee Club? But aren't they like..for losers?" One of the girls made a comment and the others agreed. This didn't anger Natalie at all, instead she just smiled and flipped her hair, "That's why I'm here, genius. I'm gonna make that club better." she assured confidently before walking out.

Nathan walked the halls of his school. He had his guitar case hanging on his back, with his prescious instrument inside. He looked around seeing the school divided into groups. The girls who belonged to the cheerios were together, grinning and smiling while talking about boys. Other group was made of people from the football team all laughing looking at everyone and making fun of a guy who was on the center of their circle. Nathan sighed. Everyone was in groups but there he was alone, not having friends.

The members of his band club were cool, but they weren't what he would call friends. He remember Ms. Martin talking with him and the other musicians to help her with the new Glee Club. Nate would have to play the songs they wanted. Personally, he didn't mind. It just sucked that he had to be in school for a bit longer. He would also help in their auditions, and play the guitar while they sang.

He saw the paper and for his surprise, it was actually filled with alot of names. He smiled a bit, happy for the teacher and for the club. His father was a member of this Glee Club, long time ago and he wanted Nathan to be too. However Nathan cared about what people think of him and if he was to join the club, they would certainly make fun of him.

He sighed and kept walking to his next class, where he only thought of how the auditions would go.

---------/ Time Skip/---------

On the next day, Nathan was waiting at the auditorium for the auditions to start. He grabbed his guitar and started playing some songs while waiting for everything to start.

(On your next post please add the details of your character's audition. (You can add more stuff, I just need you to put that information as well))

Liam Owens

When at last the final bell of the day rang, Liam was overwhelmed by the nerves that were surfacing as he walked to the auditorium. When he'd asked for directions during 5th period, the student had given him a grim look. After telling him the quickest route, the boy had added, "I hope you aren't applying for that Glee Club, dude. If you are, well... I'm on the soccer team, so. It's nothing personal." With that, the kid had scooted his chair to one of the other tables. They hadn't spoken for the rest of class.

He told himself now it didn't matter what everyone in the student body thought of him, but Liam didn't want to be singled out over a club. Now, feet away from the door that would define the rest of his high school career, he was having doubts. He liked to pretend he didn't care, but seeing people in their groups of friends always stirred up a yearning for friends of his own. Maybe Glee Club was his chance for that. He took a breath and pulled open the door.

'I must be early,' he mused internally,   taking in the near empty room aside from a single student strumming on a guitar. Somehow the idea of being the first one there just made his nervousness tenfold. He could always apply as a backup singer... His humming and whistling was spot on. He awkwardly cleared his throat before heading in, pushing his hands into his pockets and adjusting his face to reflect a look of indifference. He gave a slight nod to the musician, too distracted to note if the guy even saw him enter, before sitting stiffly in one of the seats near the front.

(Do they audition one at a time or in front of each other? I figured I'll at least get myself there and wait for the teacher xD)

Mason sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He wasn't nervous about preforming , he was worried he'd forget the words. He tapped his pencil on his desk trying to memorise the words. He shot out of his chair when the bell rang .

As he was walking to the auditorium his basketball coach saw him and asked to speak to him. As he listened to his coach he kept glancing at the clock. He absolutely hated being late to things.

Five minutes later he was dismissed. He ran down the corridor, getting scolded by a teacher making him slow down then run when he turned a corner. He made it to the auditorium in record time and burst through the doors panting. He looked around and noticed that there was only a couple of people here. " I'm not late , am I ?" He asked them.

Being his first day at school, the teachers had no expectations of Trevor, but the students did. When his teachers said he was from Texas, everybody started asking him what seemed to be a million questions. Trevor is by no means an aggressive person, but if he heard the cliche joke 'is everything really bigger in Texas' one more time he was liable to punch somebody. After telling somebody he was going to try and be the drummer for glee club, a lot of people stopped talking to him. well that's strange, they act like glee club is the plague. When he was finally released from the torture called class, he ran to his locker to grab his drum sticks and tried his best to remember the direction of the auditorium. When he finally made it, there was a guy on stage playing a guitar and two other guys towards the front of the seats. He immediately ran on stage and asked, "Hey, do y'all have a drum set around here?"

Before going to school, Natalie spent a good amount of time in her bathroom to practice her voice and perform some voice exercise to the point that she almost stirred the whole neighborhood. The blonde could feel it in her guts, she have this feeling running through her veins that she'll definitely bewitch the stage. Well atleast they have to be bewitched or else Natalie's gonna tell them on her parents and everybody knows what happens after she does that.

Her morning went like that and she spent her other remaining hours in class sitting and staring at her pink nails, scribbling something on her notes from time to time only to rip it apart, crumple it and throw it randomly at somebody. When the bell rang, her face evidently lightened up as if she was a bulb who was turned off a mere moment before and turned on as soon as she heard the sound.

Natalie walked her way towards the auditorium, eyes turning towards her direction everytime she walk pass by. This time she was wearing an expensive branded off-shoulder pastel pink shirt with the words 'queen' printed on it and a white leggings and sandals to go along with it. The moment she opened the door of the auditorium, she noticed that the said place already have many students in there. She also noticed that the seat at the very front was already occupied. This didn't stopped her as she neared the student sitting there, "That's my seat." she clicked her tongue to catch the attention of the unfortunate student. The stranger knew better than to argue with her so the student just let Natalie have her way and sat on the very back away from the spoiled blonde. Natalie plopped on the chair with a satisfied smirk and started waiting for the audition to start.

Lyanna Mason

The music running through her earbuds was louder than the bell, but it was clear the day was over when everyone started gathering their things and leaving. She tucks a strand of bright blue hair behind her ear and heads toward the auditorium. Her audition piece was flawless, she'd sung it a million times. On my Own from Les Mis. The starring song of her dream role, of course she knew it backwards and forwards.

When she arrives at the theater, her heart skips a beat. There was nothing more comforting than the smell of the stage, the brightness of the lights... Even the presence of resident mean girl Natalie Willson couldn't taint that for true lovers of the stage. With a bit of side eye toward the blonde, Lyanna heads toward the stage. Sitting on the edge away from everyone else, she lays back and closes her eyes, listening to her music and waiting for the teacher to arrive.

The spotlight wasn't new to the old pageant star, Lorelai knew everything about the stage. The way the lights were set up were not only to illuminate performers and scenery alike, but to dim out the audience for those who were nervous about performing. Lorelai was one of those people. The warm atmosphere from the lights was comforting, making the blonde feel like she could almost drift away and sleep right there under the spotlight. She yawned, covering her mouth as she did so and walking towards the group of other students. She could only assume they were here to audition as well, as there was no other reason to gather here. Putting her ear buds in her ears to drown out conversation, Lorelai took advantage of her phone and pulled up a pitch-pipe. 'D-flat major.' She told herself, trying to find her notes as she didn't know if the pianist knew Secondhand White Baby Grand, or if they had music for a piece generally meant for a solo or a women's choir.

Liam Owens

Liam shifted uneasily in his seat as students began to file in. He lifted an eyebrow as a boy jumped on stage, inquiring about drums, before turning his head to another student asking a question. "The teacher isn't here yet," he responded solemnly, flexing and unflexing his hands in anticipation.

He didn't even have a song picked out, unlike some of these kids who looked ready to burst into song at the snap of a finger. Maybe he could sing the theme song to Ghostbusters? If nothing else, it might get a few laughs. Liam moved his eyes over the various students, trying to get a feel for everyone. It seemed like a diverse group of personalities, but he wasn't yet sure if that would be an asset or not to the club. Only time would tell.

Earlier that day...

She could sing.

That seemed reason enough for Ashley to pause and take a look at the unremarkable looking paper on the bulletin board. Most students may let their own doubts regarding the rumors of the club convince them to try something less socially suicidal, but Ashley figured that it would be good to join at least one club this year. Last year it got so boring, with the assignments easy for her she could only listen to the delinquents complain about stuff for so long before it started getting repetitive. And since past experience proved that the majority of individuals at this school were too wary to enjoy her in their clubs, she figured that a club of others crazy enough to join up would at least be marginally better.

The group she had been traveling with before noticing the bulletin board finally took note of her absence and turned just in time to see her finish signing up for the infamous Glee Club. Ashley turned to see a group of disappointed faces and sighs.

"Something wrong?" she asked without letting the smile even attempt to fall from her face

"You know," one of them said as he crossed his arms "sometimes I just get the feeling that you genuinely hate yourself. Like no joke have some masochistic desire to put yourself through as much as pain as possible."

Ashley just chuckled as she went to rejoin the group "That's a funny line Maxie boy, you should really consider a field of entertainment or something. Make some of that moo-lah, you follow me?"

The groans of her peers were all the response she got as she rejoined them and went to continue on with her day, which mainly involved the shunning she received from the normal students and the semi-begrudging allowance of the leftovers.

The Present...

From what she could gather from the sign-up sheet, all she had to do was sing something good enough. That was fine, she'd sing all the time all by her lonesome. Singing in front of others isn't hard for her either, but being the one people need to be cautious of doesn't leave much room for gaining an audience. She'd tried singing with her left over friends after school, but they'd usually just tell her to shut up so they could go back to smoking and arguing or something along those lines. But despite that she was still certain she was an above average singer bare minimum.

Her parents said she was amazing at it, but basing ability off a parent's support alone on anything is generally a terrible idea. But she figured she could sing a song and let the actual Glee teacher decide whether or not she was good enough. Singing a song wouldn't be too hard, she had a number of them she'd memorized through repetition over time. Just choosing one of those at random, she figured Titanium was good enough. She'd seen it before in some movie, but she'd forgotten the name some time ago. It was catchy and all, and she'd get some killer acoustics to go with it. She'd heard it before with a piano, but figured she could get some strings in there as well.

Staring at the doors to the auditorium doors as she walked towards them, hands in pocket, expectations low, and a smile which only grew after opening the door and seeing the turnout.

"Oh," she said with a laugh as her eyes looked over the applicants already there "didn't expect this."

Ashley didn't really have any high expectations about the types of students she'd see waiting there, low expectations mean even better surprises when things go right and readiness if they don't.

"So looks likes we got a good degree of flavors here," Ashley said with a casual wave as she approached stage and leaned against it "so what brings all of you here?"

She raised a hand and started counting off reasons on her fingers "Junior stars here for experience? Curious everyday joes or janes here for some excitement? Come on guys, I just can't look at an assembly like this and think boring reasons."

Mason looked at the girl.  He walked over to her.  " I like to sing and preform ". He said simply. He reached out a hand. " The name's Mason , nice ta meet you ". He smiled brightly at her. Might as well make a friend whilst waiting for the teacher.

Carter Mason

//Interacting with {anyone}//Location: headed to auditions// Mood: Excited, Nervous

Carter was quickly walking to the room where the auditions were going to be held.

She was really nervous about how things were going to go. What if they don't accept me? What if

my singing is off? What if my voice cracks?!?!?!? The worst possible scenarios where running through

Carter's head. When she walked in, she noticed that people were already here. They hadn't started yet. She gave a small smile

to everyone in the room and leaned against the wall. Carter had a song planned in her head already. She was going to

sing Stay with Me by Sam smith. It had always been a favorite song of hers, so she thought it would be good.

Logan cut through the auditorium, barely sparing a glance.  It must be the glee club auditions the science teacher was going on about.  Whatever.  Though, the band setting up looked interesting.

He passed through the other side of the auditorium, and went to the autoshop classroom.  He already knew plenty about machines, learning at his dad's knee, so the teacher allowed him a little bit of free reign, letting him take the class as an independent study.

He shoved his bag under the work table, shucked his ever-present leather jacket, and stepped into his coveralls.  As he got ready to work on his project--rebuilding a motorcycle engine--he snaked a pair of ear buds up through his collar and hit the play button on his phone.  With the music playing in his ears, his hands and mind focused on his work, and time began to lose meaning.  At some point, he unconsciously began to sing along with the music.

(ooc: y'all can decide exactly when in the course of events this happens.  I deliberately left the progression of time vague for this reason.)
