featheronfire
Guardian Angel
Plot:
There once was a kingdom by the name of Vakorus that worshiped 4 elemental gods: Nenos, God of Water; Mydos, God of Earth; Odnir, God of Fire; and Alesis, God of Air. The Kingdom of Vakorus thrived under the protection of the gods who provided them with an envoy from each god. The envoys were humans chosen by the gods to wield their powers and act as the will of the gods. Upon the birth of a new envoy, the chosen one is stripped of half of his humanity and imbued with godhood. However, because of the strain of wielding a god’s power, they may only keep the god’s power for 10 years before they must undergo a cleansing ceremony and their lost human half is returned to them.
This cycle continued onward, providing the kingdom with prosperity and safety until one time as it became time for the Envoy of Air to undergo his cleansing ceremony, something unexpected happened for the first time. The ceremony was about to be complete when the Envoy of Air sensed the birth of the new envoy far out of the kingdom’s territory. He quickly interrupted the ceremony before it could be finished, resulting in him retaining a small portion of his godhood that will allow him to track down the new envoy. The Air Envoy insists on journeying to find the new envoy to which the three other envoys agree to. With haste, they collect their necessities and embark on a long journey to bring back the new air envoy.
Envoy PoV:
You are one of the 4 envoys that are on the search for the new air envoy. The Air Envoy senses the new envoy to be far southwest of the Vakorian Kingdom. Before embarking on the journey, you have brushed up on some geography and have determined that the mountains were too dangerous and difficult to travel through and that the best route would be go around the mountains. You will have to travel south first and then west through the Wilderlands. The speculated destination is a place called the Distant Kingdom according to the history books, though it doesn’t make sense how the new envoy could have wound up so far away when all previous envoys were people born in the Vakorian Kingdom. Together, you venture through uncharted lands and brave new threats, meeting new friends and foes along the way. When you finally arrive at the Distant Kingdom, you discover the kingdom is at constant war with strange beasts from the west. As you uncover more about this Distant Kingdom during your stay there, you realize not everything is as it seems. How will you act as you discover the truth to this kingdom?
1. While the characters are powerful, do not make them perfect. They are part human and flaws make them interesting to interact with.

The rp is situated on the southeast tip of a continent. On the east coast are lush and temperate forests. Further west from the coast stands a tall and vast mountain range. Vegetation covers the east face of the mountains but gradually diminish as elevation increases, transitioning into snowy peaks. Cool winds from the eastern waters roll in and bring plenty of rain to the land. The west face of the mountain range is considerably drier and lacking in vegetation as the rain stops before it can cross the snow-covered peaks. To the west are grassy plains and even further out, a scorching desert. To the south of the mountain range, rivers descend from their icy origins and into the valleys between rolling hills as they find their way to the southern sea. Though not as lush as the east coast, the hills still bolster forests filled with life. To the east of the hills, bordering the southeast corner, an old growth forest towers over the land, stoutly facing the erosion of the coast.
Kingdom of Vakorus
(Imagine much more trees + the trees are deciduous)
This kingdom is built on the east coast, its various towns dotting the forests with open patches of land where trees were cut down to make shelter for the people. Its capital, Vakorus, sits partway up one of the outer mountains, granting it a clear view of the sprawling forests beneath it. On clear days, the sandy coast and blue waters are visible, providing a beautiful view to the people as they go about their day. A great river runs through the city of Vakorus, providing the people with clean water straight from the glaciers.
The Kingdom of Vakorus is surrounded by temperate deciduous forests where trees that lose their leaves in the fall. Common trees include maple, oak, birch, and apple trees while small shrubs and wildflowers cover the ground. Common animals include small rodents, songbirds, deer, and canines. The land is rich in insects and fruits which the smaller animals primarily feed on. Animals such as frogs, salamanders, and fish thrive in/near lakes and rivers. The apex predators include hawks and wolves. Towards the south, wild boars can also be found.
Culture:
Vakorus is ruled by the head of the clergy. Anyone can join the clergy and move up the ranks with hard work and dedication. While the envoys are the most powerful and have great influence, the clergy is responsible for interpreting the words and actions of the envoys and determining the course Vakorus should take. The clergy is also responsible for the cleansing ceremony at the end of an envoy’s service.
Vakorians primarily live off hunting, foraging, and cultivating vegetables. Everyone is expected to learn how to contribute in one way or another even if they have a different job. Vakorian diet primarily consists of fruits, various plantable vegetable, deer, and freshwater fish. Wolves and boars are more of a delicacy. Larger and tougher animals are hunted with the help of hunting dogs. Vakorians use a bartering system to obtain goods or services that they need.
During the summer, there is a week of festivities that starts with catching fish as they swim upstream towards the mountains. The people also prepare all sorts of decorations and games for the children. Every night, the buildings are lit with lanterns and the fire envoy provides various captivating shows with his powers (with some supporting effects from the other envoys and volunteers) followed by a dance where everyone joins in. They celebrate and thank Odnir for guiding them and providing them with the gift of fire. On the final night, everyone releases their lanterns into the sky. As the lanterns fly, they form beautiful patterns and ultimately explode in a spectacular show of sparks and lights. While this is the main festival, there are other festivals to celebrate the other gods (Spring: Mydos, Autumn: Alesis, Winter: Nenos).
The Wilderlands
The Wilderlands consists of all the uninhabited lands south of the Vakorian Kingdom and east of the Distant Kingdom. The most notable feature of the Wilderlands is the old growth forest where massive trees provide shelter to various mythical beasts. There is much to learn about it.
The Astral Spines
The Astral Spines is the great mountain range that runs parallel to the east coast. It obtained its name for its peaks seem to reach up towards the stars. It is another region of uninhabited lands due to the harsh environment. The tall peaks harbor glaciers and snow-covered steep cliffs, seemingly impossible to navigate. The high altitudes also make the mountains cold all year long, lacking in oxygen, and prone to avalanches at any moment. The deciduous forest at the base of the mountains thins and transitions into sparse clusters of evergreen trees.
Despite all these adversities, life can still be found on the mountains. Mountain goats, deer, yaks, and hares find their way the snow and rocky slopes to small oases of grass to graze. Mountain cats, eagles, and wolves keep their populations in check as they prey on the former set of species. During the winter, most species descend the mountains to where the climate is less harsh.
The Distant Kingdom
(How the storm wall looks like, not indicative of how the kingdom's land or anything on the land looks like)
The Distant Kingdom is found west of the Wilderlands and southwest of the Astral Spines. Not much is known about the Distant Kingdom, but with good reason. As found in the ancient history text, the land is surrounded by an impenetrable storm wall. The constant strikes of lightning and violent winds made it too dangerous to pass through. Additionally, debris and dust picked up by the winds clouded out the view of what lies on the other side of the storm wall.
Envoys
Envoys are humans chosen by gods to inherit their powers and act as their will. While they don’t necessarily communicate with the gods, they share values with the gods and as a result, act like the gods. Overall, they have superior senses and physical capabilities than humans, but they are still very much mortal. When an envoy dies before 10 years are up, another envoy is automatically chosen.
Gods
Gods are immortals that have authority over a specific element. They are born as concepts that the humans have put their beliefs in and take humanlike shapes to match the human beliefs. As a result, they gain their powers from the humans’ worship and belief. Gods can also be born by attributing a belief to an already existing thing (ex: Mydos).
Nenos: God of Water
Nenos possesses authority over water and water-related weather and climate. Though he is most known for control over the liquid state, he also has authority over its gas and solid counterparts: vapor and ice. He is also able to control ions dissolved in water and hydrophilic structures and molecules. He is known to reside deep in the ocean out of sight but wherever water reaches, he is able to sense changes in the environment and pick up new information.
Mydos: Goddess of Earth
Mydos possesses authority over earth and nature. She can control earth and earthen elements including rocks, minerals, and metals. She can also influence all living beings, boosting life and death. She can also obtain information through the experiences of land and lifeforms. Mydos is a little bit of an anomaly as part of her originated as a 9 tail kitsune living among the beastfolk. One day, an earthquake shook the land and threw all living things into chaos. As a result, she emerged from the Wilderlands and stopped the ground and forest from collapsing and crushing the humans, saving them from destruction. As a result, the humans mistook her for the materialization of the God of Earth. Since then, she was fused with the concept of the Earth God, forgoing her original name in favor of Mydos.
Odnir: Goddess of Fire
Odnir possesses authority over fire and by extension, influence over light and temperature. While all the elements are important but dangerous to humans in one way or another, fire, despite its wild nature, is what provided the way for human life to flourish. As a result, Odnir is the most worshiped god for granting them the gift to control the wild element. She is also able to pick up information through electromagnetic radiation (primarily thermal).
Alesis: God of Air
Alesis possesses authority over air and control over all sorts of gasses that can diffuse into the air. He can also influence climate and weather dependent on air and other properties of air such as air pressure and air density. Alesis is free spirited and constantly on the move, but wherever there are winds, he is able to pick up information including smells and sounds.
Rhoks
Rhoks were golem-like people made of earth and fire that once lived to the north of Vakorus. They dwelled near or on the volcanoes of the northern Astral Spines. They called themselves Rhoks or the first people, claiming to have been around since the birth of the continent. With bodies made of stone and dirt, they were slow in their movements. Rhoks communicated with each other by lighting up parts of intricate patterns on their limbs and torsos with fire that ran through their body. Though it seems as though they all have been wiped out, occasionally a Rhok-like golem can be seen roaming aimlessly and unintelligently, only a shadow of the former prideful race.
