Empire of Starland

"Yes, but I love you. Whether you will return the love is your choice," Kevin said honestly. Somehow he had become gifted with the element of fire and was able to see spirit threads.

It's a choice that she couldn't make on the spur of the moment like that. Nope. She knew nothing about him, and he knew nearly nothing about her... they weren't even equals, for fey's sake! She'd have to take a good long time thinking about this... it was a good thing that the Empire was so big. There was plenty of time to consider this new bit of information.... "I... think I understand the situation." Ignore the spirit threads, because that's a problem for later, but admit it. She'd just been confessed to on the basis of two meetings, and he'd somehow fallen in love with her.

"We are about a days' walk from the edge of the empire," Kevin said and laid down. Activating his fire energy, he fell asleep keeping his body at the optimum temperature. As he slept he dreamed of Saphire.

She nodded, immensely glad he'd moved away. Certainly there was an attraction, now she knew he wasn't intending to make her serve him if he could help it... he just wanted to be near her. And somehow, no, she'd not think on that. She curled into his sleeping bag, the last thing she saw before falling asleep being him. Her dreams were filled with shadows, lurking evil, and a sinuous link between her and something else. Feathers tickled her arms, bare and revealing the birthmark on her two palms and shoulders, though the rest of her was still covered in her armor.... the feel of it told her it was ripped off, and her eyes glared up at the foe, whomever they were.

There was the roar of a dragon, and the sense that what she wielded was not light and shadow as the Arcana knew it, but before anything else was seen she woke.

"Had a nightmare," Kevin said seeing her eyes open. It was just before dawn and he was tearing down their campsite. Looking at her gently he said, "Saphire, no matter where your specialties lie, I will still love you. Even if it's draconic."

For a second she didn't realize she wasn't in the dream, wasn't bound to that strange source of energy... It was that one spellbooks fault. They'd given it to her for keeping, and she'd opened it. Since then she'd been having nothing but nightmares... that books she'd never managed to open again, that book that had opened the Path of the Lunar Cycle to her. One hand gripped her forehead, the other, reached for the small bag she always had on her, where the book was of course held. The nightmares were coming nightly now, the evil seemed to be growing stronger... why was she seeing this? She shook her head, no. Now wasn't the time for those thoughts. "My specialties..." A derisive laugh, "That specialty... it's best it never sees the light." Moonlight spells. Her manifestation. They were all connected, she was sure, but she was terrified of finding out just how... and she refused to trust in a book she couldn't even read to give her the answers. "nevermind, I'm awake. Shall I start on breakfast?"

"I don't mind but you know in one of the places I trained a lot of their day to day spells was powered by moonlight," Kevin said smiling gently. Looking at her gently he said, "Do you want to go?"

She nodded. Somehow despite the beauty of this place... that dream had thrown out whatever peace she had had. Luckily she still had time. The dreams had never gone further than her noticing the lack of sleeves, but... still. Whatever these nightmares were, she was terrified of them. And more so now she knew there was an actual place in the world where the forgotten magic... where the Path of the Lunar Cycle was still used. Moonlight spells... no Arcana had cast them, at least that the Empire controlled, since before the Library had been founded... and yet he knew of several people who used them. On one hand that might be good, on the other... it was worrying. "please."

"Ok, we should head there first," Kevin said. Then looking at Cenarius he said, "Go ahead, old friend."

Cenarius transformed into a dragon. Looking at Saphire he said, "We need to get there as quickly as possible."

She gulped but nodded. That... was a dragon. One of the Mythical beings charged with protecting the Fire element. That was... she was.... a deep breath. She walked over to the dragon, and asked in a respectful tone, "I apologize for my earlier conduct, Sir Dragon, and ask if I may borrow your wings?" It was manners to ask, after all... and Dragons, though they rarely spoke human, were more than intelligent enough to know the difference. How could she have treated him as a mere mortal horse? Not even a Unicorn, beings of light, but a horse?

"Your mannerisms have changed towards me, little Arcana. Me a minor dragon," Cenarius said speaking to her.

Kevin eyed Cenarius and said, "How did you learn my language, Cenarius?"

"I have watched you and listened," Cenarius said as Kevin transformed.

"Let's get going, I want Saphire to be able to sleep soundly as soon as possible," Kevin said as they took off.

She curtseyed to the Cenarius, "I did not know of your noble form, Sir Dragon. Perhaps I should have known better, though you and my Master are the first of the Draconic Peoples that I have met. There is no excuse for my mistake." And she scrambled onto his back, careful not to harm anything, or move a scale in the wrong way. What did she know about the Dragons, aside from that? Nothing, now she realized it... there hadn't been scale-nor-wing of them since the fall of the Arcana Kingdom, and now she knew why. They must have all chosen to hide in plain sight, deigning to speak only to a few mortals.

Kevin flew to the moonlight village of active Arcana. As they arrived he saw there was a warm welcoming for them. Landing, he reverted to his human form and said, "How did you know?"

((Can you rp as the seer of the village?))

One person began walking forwards, a red cloak hiding their face, but the red-and-black dress signified her as a woman of some kind. Saphire bit back some kind of worry, who would this person be? She could feel a strange, immense power coming from the woman, and half of her wanted to run away, the other half wondering who she could be. A seer? She'd never heard of such a person, and yet the woman came closer, and a sense of otherworldliness seemed to follow her. Once she was close she lowered her hood, the red frills on the edges reminding Saphire of a blood moon. Brown eyes and black-brown hair, pale skin... "Welcome."

"Hinata-sama, i'm sorry. I did not realize you had returned from your mission," Kevin said getting down on one knee in front of her.

"Kevin, what are you doing," Cenarius asked curiously.

"Yes, I have returned, Kevin. I Saw you and this one come here. There must be some reason for this meeting, of course." The woman seemed calm, but there was a hint of warning. Was this place secret for some reason? Of course it was, actually, as there hadn't been any hint of their kind. Saphire gulped, but stood tall. Even if they could use it... the book wouldn't have opened for her without reason, whatever that reason was. So maybe they had something she could learn. Though these were Kevin's friends, not hers, so she ensured she was a few steps behind him.

"Saphire, an Arcana, has had nightmares. I felt a link between the nightmares and this village by instinct," Kevin said still on one knee. Looking at Hinata he said, "Do you think she might have opened the Arcana school's book on this village?"

Her eyes glazed over, as though remembering something, and a slight echo is heard from her voice, "Born of Light, Dyed in Shadow, bearing entanglement with forces unknown..." Her Attention returned to the three of them, hand outstretched and eyes on Saphire. A gulp, but... before she knew what she was doing the blue-leather with lighter-blue runes on the cover was in her hands. Hinata looked it over, nodded, and turned around. "You will spend the night in my home. Come. We've much to discuss. Both of you. Cenarius can stay in my stable, if he wishes, or he may join you."

Hinata led them down road after road, until finally they arrived at a small, run down building covered in medicinal herbs. Upon closer inspection it seemed to be a library, the large windows to let in light and barely-visible bookshelves were proof. Next to it was a slight lean-to, with hay and a horse. That was her stable, Saphire guessed. Inside the building they went, the sense of otherworldliness a bit stronger, though not as aggressive. Once Saphire passed through the door without incident she heard Hinata sigh as well. "Now then... do you know what this book is, miss...?"

"Saphire Tsuki, and... no, I don't. I only opened it once, and couldn't decode any of the text within it." A sharp intake of air from the elder woman.

"Correct, Kevin. It had been sealed away when the source of Moonlight magic had been tainted." Her tone was serious, eyes on Saphire now. The slave straightened up, looking the other woman in the eye. "That is why you have nightmares... this book is spelled to only open to those very few able of not only casting, but controlling the magic of moonlight. And it only opens once per trial. The nightmares are a sign of the taint... though we're not sure what it is from. Or weren't. That is where my mission comes in... I discovered that it was a cult which tainted the source. If you can remove the taint the nightmares should fade... or at least you should have a hint as to what is reaching for you through it. If you can destroy the cult... then I should be able to See what this evil is. For now... my Sight is blocked."

"That's where I come in huh," Kevin said smiling with his hands on the hilts of his swords. Looking at her, he said, "Where is this cult?"
