Empire of Starland

Saphire, attention on the strings of the magic of the land, began to softly hum, drawing them in. Now was a good chance, so she'd use her own earth magic, tapping into it calmly. Once more the wings were seen vaguely, but it was harder to truly see them as the light around her rapidly strengthened. Since she wasn't chanting what she exactly planned to do wasn't clear... and so she was able to freely feel around the metal of their weapons. She started weakening them, dulling the blades and changing the structure to make them more brittle... the slightest of impacts would break them now.

"Saphire, i'll be right back," Kevin said before kissing her cheek and running off at the ninja in the form of a dragon. Sighing, he was revealing the extent of his power given to him only by the physical manifestation of his power. Swiftly he got the ninja and beheaded him with a claw. Turning back to her he said, "Are you curious? This is what saved me when you went ballistic all those years ago."

Ok... now it was her cheek. That was strange. WHy kiss her cheek? She shook her head, but watched as Kevin rapidly took down ninja after ninja, surprised at the form he'd taken. A draconic form... shapeshifting... it was dangerous, powerful magic. One could only transform into a being they resonated with, and rarely with the skill he held... and yet he had done it ridiculously easily. That... suggested power resided in him that no mere Blooded could summon... not without a blood contract with one of the Guardians. But... the Guardians had stopped forming contracts when the Arcana had fallen... "That... is certainly impressive. Is there some reason for you to say it was me?" Even if her hair color was rare, there was still no proof he'd been there when she'd lost control.

"Saphire, that day I met you it was a day different from now. I was powerful and had the blooded ability Dracosight. The most powerful of the Hyuchiha family. That day I hurt you with my words and you went ballistic. Here I am to say that I am sorry and to be the person you wanted me to be ten years ago. I will not ever abandon you," Kevin said reverting to his human form.

"Day we met...?" She didn't remember. All she knew was that something had happened, she'd lost control... and she'd been sent to the Library right after. Still, he was apologizing... to her, a slave. And so, she had only one course of action, especially as she didn't remember his words. She took in a deep breath, and said almost calmly, "I accept your apology, si-Kevin."

"Yes sir." she couldn't stop saying that... probably a good thing. A soft sigh, she let out the bit of magical energy she had been holding onto. The scanning had started to give her a migraine, and she didn't want to risk that, not when there would be enemies. Twice in as many days they'd been attacked, Kevin, or her, was being targeted for some reason.

"Saphire, do you know what it means to have a physical manifestation of your Arcana ability," Kevin asked curiously.

"It depends on your family history. If you come from a family that contracted with the Guardians, powerful mythical beings that protected the Arcana Kingdom, then it would be a sign of high-concentrated Mythical blood, and if not... then it was a sign of your own incredible power." Most outsiders never learned of this, but he was powerful enough to be considered for adoption back when. It couldn't be wrong to talk to him about this, could it? Not if he wanted to make the pilgrimage.

"The thing is, besides my family name I know nothing of my heritage," Kevin said honestly. He had always been able to take the form of a dragon. It was second nature to him.

"I'm afraid without more information this is all I can do for you now. There are spells to test for contracts, but they require the power and blessing of the Fay, and only those who have finished their pilgrimage can cast them." She knew the spells, of course, but other than that... "Besides, if you are not in some way related to a Guardian, then your form... it is unique to you, and while I might be able to help you discover it's properties, you will ultimately be the one to know it's secrets."

((For the first part of that I sounded like a badly written NPC))

Looking at her, Kevin stopped and said, "Saphire, I have always been able to take the form of a dragon. My first transformation was when I was three. To protect someone, that's all I can recall."

She nodded, it made sense if he came by it by blood. But she didn't know, and frankly... if he was then it was frightening. That meant that he was nearly immune to fire, and her magic might cause him to react strangely... depending on how sensitive to the threads of the world he was. But for now... "It isn't like we can figure this out now, despite that fact. There are exceptions to every rule... especially when it concerns the Fay." What did he want her to say, that she was certain he came from one of the Great Houses? She wasn't!

"Here, use my sleeping bag tonight," Kevin said as he began to set up camp. After he had finished, Kevin saw a lake and walked over to it. Sitting on the surface, he encased himself in flames and began to meditate.

She blinked, looking at the sleeping bag, then at him, and at the bag again. Usually she used a spell at night, but it might be interesting to try. How much energy would she have if she didn't do that to keep her warm? Just in case she activated the siphoning spell in her robes, so that just in case it was too much for her she wouldn't start leaking power. That might be a bit much. Still... wha- Fire. He was meditating in fire... what? She rolled her eyes, looking to the canopy above them, and sighed. It was about time for the new moon, so meditating wouldn't hurt her either, and they had time until the night became too dark for them to move around.

Inside of his mind-

"Kevin, you have found her. Now what," the flame inside of his mind said.

"To love and cherish her," Kevin said.

Opening his eyes, Kevin looked at Saphire and said, "Saphire, why did you become the strongest Arcana of your class?"

While Kevin had been communing with another presence within himself, she had been attuning herself to the world around her. In this way she tamed her magic often, and she could start to hear the voices of being she believed might be even more powerful than the fay... though there wasn't any proof. As always, she kept this idea to herself, it would be dangerous for everyone involved if she didn't. Her wings, more solid-looking than any time before, and yet seeming completely ethereal, were spread in a lazy, circular shape around her, but when her eyes opened the closed and faded, the magic she'd been unknowingly drawing in fading away as the slight glow faded. And then she realized... he'd asked her a question.

"Why did I become the strongest? At first it was for the sake of controlling my magic. once I was able to do that, however..." she trailed off, remembering those early years. The books, tomes, and the thirst for knowledge... until she'd come across that one archive she'd been obsessed with learning everything she could. "I came to love learning, and eventually I knew more than anyone else in the Library. It helped that my lack of control had isolated me, while I can't do group spells I know more individual ones than nearly everyone else."

Seven years. Looking for her? But where... why... what? There wasn't any reason for him to want to meet her... not if she had nearly killed him with her magic! "Right. Well then, you succeeded sir." She had almost been re-written when he found her! What, did he want that kind of revenge? No, she was just freaking out at finding that out... kinda stalker-ish, after all. "Now what do you plan on doing with me?" Sure, she'd asked him that earlier, but...

"I already told you. I just want to be there for you when you need me. I looked for you because I just wanted to be with you," Kevin said bluntly. Touching her face gently he said, "I wonder if there's a way to dissolve the servant/master magic used on you."

Him, an adopted noble, wanted that.... no, if she kept thinking about it she'd get ideas. And not good ones... either making him angry or something that might make her want something she couldn't have. So, she latched onto the change in subject, ignoring his touch on her skin. His fingers were kinda rough...no, she was thinking about the servant/master magic. "It's been present since the Arcana agreed to serve the Empire. It's an intrinsic part of all full-blooded Arcana's natures, now. Once we've been bought we must serve that person, unless given to another." She'd looked into it curiously. It was like the Guardian's blood contracts... so long as she was bound to the crown, she would serve them. "Also, any orders by the Royal family are enforced by the same spell, taking precedence over those of our masters."

A blink, and then she wondered... was he honestly thinking about that. Earlier, that whole 'life partner' thing... had he been serious? This time there was no mistaking it... his words were aimed directly at her, and she felt what was certainly warmth coming up her cheeks. "I... uhh... h-huh?" How many times had they met, before he decided that? Once? B-but... love-on-sight doesn't work! It never ends well, and yet... seven years he'd said. H-h-huh?

"Let me explain. Ten years ago I wanted to be your friend. Then as I trained in my apparent abilities I discovered that I could see spirit threads. They connect two people who are meant for each other. I didn't know until I started to follow my own spirit thread that the one I was meant for was you, Saphire," Kevin said honestly.

Spirit threads? She'd heard of them, but didn't have the necessary connections to the fey to see them. b-but if that was the truth... that meant she was supposed to fall in love with him, that the thread of fate had brought the two of them closer. That was... and they... the two of them... her head was spinning, the implications of that were frightening. Not only were they connected, but the string was strong enough to have lasted one meeting, and... "W-wha... I don't... does that mean we're supposed to fall in love?" Just like that?
