Realistic or Modern Ebzomix Virus

It was a bright summer morning in the city of New Haven. The sun had just risen in the sky, the temperature being a warm 65 degrees, and the sky was full of white wispy clouds, as hues of orange, yellow and light blues touched the horizon, though the blue stretched far beyond that.

Sam yawned softly and stretched out, she had slept very few hours and in a house that she had cleared the night before. She sound the master bedroom to be suitable, and the bed was nice, had she not feared that she would get ate alive she might have slept more; nonetheless, she got up and opened the window, her backpack on her back as she slipped out, crouching as she went along the roof.

Alex had been driving for what seemed like days when in reality it had only been 2 hours. He didn't have a particular destination he just went with his gut and drove wherever he felt like it. He had slept in his car the night before but hadn't seemed to be able to get any rest so he decided to start the engine and continue on his way. But he had forgotten to check his gas and ended up running out in a small neighborhood. As soon as his car gave out he began to swear vigorously. How could i have forgotten to check the gas he thought. "Damn it damn it damn it". He liked being in his jeep. It gave him a sense of protection. Like a barrier keeping those monsters out there at bay. He gave a long sigh and grabbed his book-bag. He didn't have much. A few days ago he had encountered a group zombies and had exhausted most of his ammunition. He had about 10 bullets left. When he gathered all of his thing he slowly got out of his car and examined his surrounding. Movement in the corner of his eye caught his attention and he turned with his gun at the ready. There along the roof of one of the houses was a girl. At first he was exactly sure what to do he hand't seen another normal person in a while. It took him a second to lower his rifle and slowly make his way in her direction not knowing if she had seen him or what she would do if she had.

-Arayhia was tired of waiting. She hadn't seen anyone for days. Or was it weeks? She didn't keep track of time anymore. Lately she ha be wondering if anyone was left in the city. Or anywhere else for that matter. Arayhia was thinking of moving. The store her and her sister have been holed up in since the beginning of the outbreak was out of food. She had a couple days worth of food left, if she was lucky, a week. And the surrounding stores and houses had been scavenged long ago. The only choice was to move to a different part, her sister was growing, and needed food. Arayhia had taken to eating once a day, if lucky, and it had started to show, ribs becoming clearly visible, her clothes getting baggy. Her sister was the picture of health though. Arayhia often wondered how her would fair in the new world, and was grateful she was well.

Standing from the floor Arayhia moves quietly across the room and peeks out between the boards and the window. Nothing in sight at the moment. It was usually quiet. The world had stopped being noisy. You didn't hear traffic, people talking, nothing. Occasionally, when one of the monsters passed, groans could be heard in the silence. Turning around, she strides to the map pinned to the wall. Red dots marked the places she had raided already, about a tenth of the map. With her sister and lack of supplies she didn't dare go too far. Her eyes roam the paper as she tries to figure out where to go. She hopes she can make it somewhere safer before her food runs out and they starve.-

Katrina had woken up early that morning. Her backpack only had a bag of chips and some tarts in it, and she knew that it wouldn't take very long for her to finish eating it.

Although she felt a little guilty for doing so, she had been entering other people's houses to raid their kitchen and pantry. She was currently standing what would have been a lovely kitchen, had it not been for the blood stains and broken glass on the floor. Her eyes quickly darted away.

She checked the refrigerator at first, but quickly closed it due to the stench of rotting food. This house was another bust. Food was getting harder to come by for her.

Katrina sighed and walked out the door, shielding her eyes from the bright summer light. 3 years ago, she would have been out throwing knives at a cardboard cutout, or exploring a cave. Now, she was fighting zombies and raiding houses. How life changed.

She was about to walk down the street when she noticed an unusual shadow. She quickly shrank back against the door, and reached for the throwing knives around her thigh.

Her eyebrows rose in surprise when she noticed that some girl was on the roof, and another person was on the ground nearby. Carefully, so that she wouldn't attract attention to herself, she made her way towards the two of them.

As Alex was making his way towards the girl on the roof something caught his attention out of the corner of his eye. He quickly turned his head and scanned his surroundings. Someone was watching him. He had meet many different kinds of people out here some horrific and evil other good and kind. He couldn't afford to take any chances. He checked to see if his gun was still loaded then took one last look at the girl on the roof. After that he ran straight towards where he last saw moment. Sure this wasn't exactly the best plan he could have come up with but no one would expect you to just randomly charge forward. Then again if this wasn't a person if this was a zombie he could have just made a huge mistake. But it was a risk he was willing to take. He was tired. Tired of Running for his life all the time and never being able to get a goodnight's rest. Whenever he did manage to fall asleep it wouldn't be long because his nightmares were sure to wake him up. Not only that Alex felt like he was a goner. He had been coughing more and more lately. At first he thought it just might be a cold but then he had herd a rumor about how the Zombie virus works and how coughing is one of the first stages. After this he had begun to act a little reckless. He didn't want to die but there was nothing he could do. So he decided to stop living with fear he would still be logical about things but every now and then take a risk.

After a few yards he stop and lowered his gun there in-front of him was another girl with knifes on her thighs.

Sam saw all the movement and swore under her breath. There was two so far that she could tell where they were, mainly because the man that was after her changed course and went after the other person. Carefully Sam stopped moving around on the roof, as she was coming to the softer part of it, where it most defiantly would not hold the weight of anything other than a bird or squirrel. Slowly she raised her knife and flipped out the blade, a small smirk coming across her face as she remembered she was roughly 15ft in the air and the only way to reach her was to get though the locked door at the bottom of the house, plus all the rubble she'd moved to make sure no one, not even the dead, could get into the room she slept in. So without a care she sat on the roof and looked down at the man, watching him curiously, but also being away of everything else around her.

-After awhile of planning where to go and what to do, Arayhia all but gave up. Deciding to just pack everything she could, and take her chances. If we're just her, that's exactly what she would have done. Her sister being the only thing stopping her. But that could rectified. She had been pacing te small room for almost an hour. Every now and again stopping to grab a couple things from here or there, and placing them in her satchel. It wasn't big by any means, but it fit the rest of the food and the one other pair of clothes her and her sister had. Glad that she was in good shape, she looked at her sleeping sister. He sister took after her father with blonde fair hair and big blue eyes. A bit of dirt smidged on her cheek, not having the luxury of showers or baths. Small sandles all scruffy and held together by ducttape strapped on her feet, jeans that turned into capris with her rapid growth, and an overly large blue shirt decorate her small frame.

Leaning down she shakes her gently, waiting until her blue eyes open. She crouches down, patting her back. Her sister walks over and gets on her back, wrapping her small arms and legs around her torso and neck. Arayhia grabs a long peice of clothe she cut out of an old sheet, and wraps it around both of them securely, something she'd been doing some the outbreak to keep her sister with her, and keep her hands free in case they ran into the undead.

She starts taking the boards off the door with a hammer. And before stepping out into street, she makes sure to hook her small daggers in her belt loops. Her eyes roam out beyond the store, and seeing nothing she moves out into the open. She turn er head and put her pointer finger up to her lips, and her sister nods in understanding.

After walking for a few blocks, making random turns threw out the walk, she sees a girl, sitting up on a building. She walks a bit more slowly, no telling whether or not they mean harm. Getting closer, she is able to se the girl looking in the direction of something else. A man running and another girl! A zombie? Or a regular man? No telling from this far away. She stands in the shadow of the building, waiting for things to play out.-

Katrina froze when the man started running towards her. She didn't want to harm him, but what sane man would run towards another person like that, unless he was a zombie? Still, she hesitated to throw her knives in case he really wasn't a zombie, and in a flash he was only a few yards away from her.

Katrina watched carefully as he lowered his weapon. Well, now she knew that he wasn't one of the undead, at least. She didn't say anything for a moment. She didn't know what to say; she hadn't talked to anyone in such a long time. The last thing Katrina had said--to another human, that was--was a goodnight to her little brother. When she came back in the morning, after gathering supplies, he was gone. Kat never found his body, but there had been plenty of blood.

She shook the painful thought from her memory and refocused her eyes on the guy in front of her.

"So," she finally said to break the silence.

Alex stared at the girl in front of him for a moment with a blank expression. He then realized she had said something. "oh ah sorry about that I thought um ... i thought i saw something so i decided to charge at it". After he finished his sentence he realized how dumb he sounded. Great Alex way to make a good first impression he thought to himself. He gave a small smile, hesitated for another moment then extended his hand. "im Alex by the way nice to meet ya" He was excited to find another person. It had been so long sense he had last seen one and the last one had been a group of bandits claiming to want to "help" him and offered to take him back to there camp. He had barely made it out of there alive but this girl didn't strike him as a bandit. She looked like him, just another survivor trying to stay alive in this crazy world. The just as he was thinking this he suddenly began coughing and he couldn't stop. He fell to the ground dropping his gun and holding his stomach with one hand and mouth with the other. This lasted for a few minutes before it finally stopped and when it did he felt drained and tired. He sat up and felt a sudden burst of fear. He was afraid he barely new this girl what if she killed him right now for fear of being infected. Alex didn't know much about this virus but he know that it would take a good amount of time for him to actually turn. The only humans who were left now were either immune or somewhat resistant to the virus. He looked at his gun and it had landed near her. All he could do was wait to see how she would react.

Katrina looked behind her to see if she could see what he had been charging at, because it looked a lot like he was headed straight for her. Although she was still a little confused, she brushed it off and smiled back at him.

"I'm Katrina," she replied. Before she could get another word out though, he suddenly began to cough uncontrollably. She had seen the symptoms before, in a few of her siblings and friends. She knew he was infected.

When his coughing slowed, she looked at what he was staring at. It was almost as if he expected something to happen. When she saw the gun, she knew exactly what he was thinking.

Most people weren't very tolerant of the infected when the outbreak first started. There had been talk about eradicating them in her neighborhood. She was against everyone who thought that; she thought that a cure would be found. In fact, she still thinks that.

Kneeling down beside him, she grabbed the gun and slowly handed it back to him. "I won't kill you, you know. Unless you try to kill me first," she joked.

She turned away to grab a water bottle from her backpack. "Here, drink this. Don't worry about infecting me, I'm immune."

Alex felt a huge sense of relief go through him and laughed "thanks" and gave her a genuine smile. He gratefully took the water bottle and slowly drank it as he stood back up. " you know I think I could have taken you if you had decided to kill me " alex said and he flexed his bicep "I don't mean to brag but I'm pretty strong" he grin then noticed two thing. One, the girl on the roof had noticed them and was now calmly looking at them from her position. Two, they had two new guest hiding near by he couldn't get a good look at them but it appeared to be two other girls. Alex had taken back his rifle and decided to throw it over his back so he wouldn't appear to be a tigger happy. He then turned back to Katrina "looks likes they noticed us" and pointed to the girl on the roof and the other two nearby watching.

"Oh I don't think so. I've got a few tricks up my sleeves, you know," Katrina said as she rose with him, before turning to see what he had been pointing at. She blinked in surprise. She had known about the person on the roof, but she hadn't even noticed the other one.

"You don't that one is a zombie, do you?" She hadn't seen a single one all day, and she didn't want one to show up now. She pointed at the one on the roof. "I'm not too worried about her, since I've never seen a zombie do that, but that one is just lurking in the shadows."

She squinted, trying to make out any features. "Wait a minute. There's two of them. Isn't that a kid hanging onto her back?"

Alex thought for a moment. She was right he hadn't seen a single zombie all day while driving. Strange, normally theirs at least one hanging around but then again the girl up on the roof might have cleared them out or if these two strangers are survivors maybe they had something to do with it. He pondered this but then shrugged it off. No zombies i'm not complaining Alex thought to himself "yeah i think your right that looks like a little girl and maybe these guys have something to do with the no zombies" Alex took the now empty water bottle and slipped it into his book-bag, he left his gun slung over his back but made sure he still had his knife in his pocket just in case. Then he motioned in that direction of the two unknown spectators. "wanna go check it out?" From Alex's point of view they didn't seem too dangerous plus if there human they could be friendly. But if they are zombies he was pretty sure he Katrina could take them.

Sam watched the man for a bit longer then from the open window in the house she heard a thud, a rather loud thud which made her jump to her feet and raise her knife, the blade already being out as she watched and waited. She was sure he had cleared out all the zombies in the house, though maybe there was a few that she had forgotten? Either way something was trying to get though her barricade and she didn't like it. More thuds came from the house along with the sound of shattering glass, each of these sounding closer and closer to the window. Inwardly Sam wish she'd closed the door, but she wouldn't risk running over there now to close it.

Katrina pulled a knife out, holding it ready. "Yeah, let's go see what's--" She stopped talking suddenly, looking towards the house that the girl sat on. "Do you hear that? It's sounds like someone's trying to break down a door."

Immediately after she said that, there was the distinct sound of shattering glass. "I think we should be more concerned with what's going on over there, actually." She pointed at the house.

She couldn't be certain, since she couldn't see anything, but she was almost positive that the zombies had just arrived. Katrina hoped desperately that she was wrong.

-Arayhia watches in the shadows as the girl and the man talk, glad that he hadn't been a zombie rushing her. Though with the coughing fit she was sure he was on his way to becoming one. She felt a small bit of sadness, and hoped that there was a cure somewhere. Knowing that you were turning had to be terrible. She was definitely more tolerant towards the infected people though, and apparently so was the other girl. Raiders and bandits would have shot at the first sign of infection. A surge of happiness shoot through her at the thought of other survivors, like her and her sister. It had been so log since she's seen other people, the only sounds she'd heard in two years was her sisters, and the groans of zombies. She watches the two turn to look toward her, pointing and talking. Since she was almost positive they didn't mean any harm, she didn't leave. And even if they did, a well aimed knife would discourage any bad behavior.

Suddenly a sound echoes threw the quiet. Like someone breaking something down. And it was coming from the building she stood in the shadow of, the one the other girl was on top of. The sound of shattering glass confirms what she believed when she heard the banging. Just because she hadn't seen zombies all day, didn't mean they were gone. Backing away from the building she looks towards the pair of survivors, and finds them looking towards the building a well. She couldn't just leave the girl on her own, so she decides to look for an entrance.-

Alex nodded in agreement "your right i think we might have just found our missing zombies lets go!" Alex and Katrina ran towards the house looking for some kind of entrance. As they made there way to the house he finally got a good look at the two other girls who had been watching them. One was small small girl she looked really young and the other was a bit taller maybe 18 ish years he guessed. He waved them over as he amd Katrina got closer to the house. He didn't stop though because the banging had increased and whatever was trying to get in sounded like it was succeeding. He pulled out his rifle making sure one last time that it was loaded then began inspecting the house. When he got to the back of the house there was none there but the door had been broken down and there were pieces of wood everywhere. One of the windows was also broken and covered in what Alex assumed was blood. It looked like something had finally made it in. It had to be strong because everything around the house was barricaded pretty good. Adrenaline started pumping through him as he got closer and closer to the broken door and window. Then without turning his head to look at them asked "you guys ready?" then began walking towards the door.

-Arayhia strides over as the man waves them over, and finally gets a better look. The guy and the girl look about her age, maybe a bit older. It's harder to tell though, since the outbreak. Everyone's aged faster with the wear of this kind of world. People had to grow up faster, she knows she did. She runs after the man and girl through the broken door. Whatever was there had to be strong, there was debri from the blockage behind the door spread everywhere and it didn't look light. Her heart beat speads up, and she can feel the blood pounding through her veins. She grabs the two daggers from her belt loops and looks behind to make sure the sound didn't draw any unwanted guests. The man speaks, and startles Arayhia slightly, she hadn't heard a human voice in awhile, and a small smile plays over her lips. "Yes."-

Within the next few seconds the sound of a huge dresser being turned over could be heard then another sickening crack could be heard from where whatever it was had broken down the door. Sam's heart was racing at this point, as she was sure whatever was after her was huge..or was it after her? Did she leave something behind that it was after? She wondered, then snapped back into reality as she realized the thing was in the room she had just slept in and any moment now it would come through window and get her..then again..what if it was too big for the window..then it would get suck! She smirked a bit at the thought and slowly made we way across the roof to where the window was. Once there she almost burst into laughed at the fact that there was indeed a huge fat zombie stuck in the window, though it didn't look like it would be there long.

Alex entered the house slowly with the rest of his group following close behind. He held his gun tight to his shoulder as he scanned the first room. The back door which he and his group had entered appeared to lead into the kitchen. He was about to make a mental note to come back here after they cleared whatever had gotten in when he remembered the girl on the roof. He figured that she had probably already scavenged what little food was left here so it didn't make sense to come back and look. He lead his team down the hall and then up the stairs. That was when he herd a low growling/ gurgling noise coming from one of the room. He pointed at the room where the noise was coming from and then signaled that on three they would all go in right after him. They stayed close to the wall and then on three he rushed in gun aimed and ready but then abruptly stopped after a few feet causing the others behind him to run into him. What he saw made him start giggling. There in front of him was a fat zombie stuck in the window wiggling around like it had ants in his pants. But then after a second Alex realized that it looked like it was about to free itself. He quickly shouted so the other girl on the roof could hear him. "Hey im going to shoot your friend here in the head it looks like he's about to break free". He aimed his gun carefully but then just as he was about to pull the trigger he remembered. Noise. His gun didn't make much of it but still it was better to be safe then sorry. He dropped his gun and wiped out his knife as fast as he could and ran at the huge blob then drove the blade deep into the back of the zombie's head. It stopped flailing around and twitched for a few more moments before stopping altogether. He looked back at the girls behind him and gave a goofy grin"Piece of cake".

-As Arayhia followed behind the man she felt a bit insulted. Unintentionally she was sure, but insulted all the same. Being treated like a helpless female, when she had survived three years. Which is a feat in of itself, but add on an infant, only a few months old at the time, and it was almost unbelievable. But Arayhia decided he meant no harm and was just trying be helpful. He seemed like a nice guy. Her thoughts stopped abruptly as he waves her and the other girl back, and enters the room. A soon as he enters, she follows close behind. A small smile forms in her lips as she looks at the scene in front of her. The guy is giggling and a zombie is stuck in the window, it's legs wiggling about trying to push itself out. She looks over her shoulders as her younger sister starts giggling. Arayhia had thought her asleep, but she must have woken up on the trek threw the house. Seeing the man raise a gun, she almost speaks out, but stops as he decides a different course instead. A sigh of relief leaves her as he stabs the zombie. The shot would have attracted every zombie in a ten block radius. She returns his smile as he turns around.-

Katrina was amused by the image of the zombie flailing around, stuck in a window. Before she could take another step though, Alex had plunged his knife into it. In seconds, the zombie laid dead.

Katrina was glad that he hadn't used his gun, since that would have attracted too much attention, but she wondered if there might be more zombies lurking around. Suddenly, she remembers the female that she had seen on the roof before. She didn't see her in the room. Maybe she was still up on the roof?

"Hey, where do you guys think that other person is?"

-Her sister's giggling fades away as she looks worriedly to the others in the room. She hasnt seen any others besides zombies and dead people since the outbreak happened. It nakes sense that she would be wary around them. She smiles at her, flashing a quick okay sign before turning to look around te room. The floor really didn't look steady enough for all of them, glass littered the floor, and it groaned when anyone shifted. Not a bad as some others though. She turns to face the girl as she speaks. Thinking about it, she addresses the girl. "Probably still on the roof. Though she might have made a run for it with all the commotion.."

Why was the girl on the roof in the first place? It strikes her that more people are alive. She's not alone in this city. And she feels a bit happier. She doesn't yet know if they can be trusted, but she feels a sense of relief at not being utterly alone. Se just hopes they don't wish her and her sister ill.-

Sam sighs softly as all amusement dies from her face and it goes stone cold and straight once again. Great Sam..there's a group forming now and a dead zombie stuck in the place you used to sleep. She thought to herself, sighing once more as she made herself visible to the group on the inside. To them she probably looked rough, seeing as her face was quite dirty and filled with bruises, dried blood and cuts. Her clothes were also a mess too. She wore her light weight black jacket which had some holes in it and was dirty, though you couldn't tell because it was black and her skinny jeans were torn in several places from barbed wire and god knows what, they were a dark blue in color and what was on them ranged between blood, dried blood, dirt, and who knew what else. She honestly looks like a zombie, but she wasn't at all. Sam raised a finger-less gloved hand and waved at them a bit, but said nothing as she didn't talk anymore, in a way she had taken a vow of silence.
