Dreams of the Second Age - Additional IC

The Underways

"From your description, it sounds like a necromancy war machine. The Deathlords use these kinds of things to terrorize their enemies, and can splice together any number of bodies to make a truly horrific creation. If there is such a weapon/creature down here, we will have to deal with it eventually. Best we do it now when we are prepared than have to face it later on when it is rampaging through the city."

The Pyramid

The arrogant Solar glares down at you. "I allowed you to come here under a flag of truce to let you see the wisdom of pledging yourself to my cause. If you will not do that and become my ally, you will be my enemy. Under my oath, I did tell you that so long as you don't initiate an attack, you will be free to go unmolested."

As he speaks, Aredin can finally put his finger on what has been bugging him about the Solar. He has a powerful spirit riding his body; probably less a possession than a issue of mutual cooperation.

Aredin

Placing his hand over his heart, Aredin resumed speaking, "Believe me, I do see the wisdom of teamwork. Which brings me to this, I know of others in the city, working hard at this very moment, to restore this city to it's full splendor. However, since you all agreed to keep my story to yourselves, I ask this of you. My plan is to go to them and inform them that the rumors aren't true, that working together should be how we move forward. Is this agreeable?" Aredin stood waiting for the Kings response.

Rather than playing the game of loopholes, is it safe to assume I can inform the circle that the madness rumor is actually possession, without oath backlash?

Araneus

Araneus nods and then looks to Niko and Zen. "Take point, I'll try and get in a surprise while you have it's attention. Shouldn't be too difficult, I would think."

The problem with that is, you don't know for sure that possession is the reason he is all wonky in the head, but you are able to make a comment to the others of the Circle without getting nailed by a broken oath.

The Underways

You advance slowly towards the undead war machine. Please give me Stealth + Dex rolls, and Join Battle rolls. Plus, thanks to the Sidereal Charm that gave you the warning, you may activate any Scene long Charms before engaging it. Just make sure you put them in a post so I know what is active.

Araneus

Araneus takes the stealth point, looking for ways to get close to the beast while the others are going in from the front. His cloak obscures him again as he moves in, that tell-tale violent smirk taking his face when he sees the beast and makes ready to beat it into fate's oblivion.

Activating VBoS Form.

Edit, this dice was for stealth.

Zen approaches the beast, readying and activating his charms as he does so. His weapons are ready to be summoned with but a single thought, almost eager to draw blood after such a long time of disuse. He stills his movements as his very movements change to a precise and mechanical with not a single wasted movement.

Spending 10m 1wp for Infinite Melee mastery. Activating Protection of Celestial bliss for 3m. Flashing vengeance Draw for 3m to add 7 auto-sux to join battle. First attack is unexpected if I get highest join battle roll. Rolling Join battle roll of 8 dice. Stunt is applied to join battle roll, holy crap!

So far, it does not appear that the worm has noticed any of you as you stealth along the path.

Order of Battle so far:

0 - Zen-Aku

1 -

2 -

3 -

4 -

5 -

6 - Monstrous Worm, Araneus, Pyter

@Seeker of the End, with that many successes on the Join Battle roll, I believe that everyone is going to be acting for the first time on Tick 6. Also, when NPCs and players act on the same tick, I default to have the PC go first. Once everyone has made their JB roll, I'll add them in.

With a dangerous purr to his voice, Filial says, "So, you have come to my city with other Exalts, intent on taking it away from me! Rathess and all of its treasures are mine! If you wish to exist here at all, it will be as a servant in my army, because you are obviously not my equal."

Zen-Aku

As soon as Zen's battle preparations were complete, he struck clockwork precision. He materializes his skycutters in hand before he throws it with inhuman precision. In an instant, the thrown skycutters become a dozen, then a thousand burning weapons, all aimed to strike down the monster before him before it had a chance to react. While the skycutter were in flight, Zen-Aku would charge with his wave-cleaver daiklave in hand and strike the behemoth once before catching the skycutters as it returned to him with his free hand.

Spending 5m on Cascade of cutting terror to double successes on my thrown attack and make it undodgeable. Adding +2 auto successes thanks to cross-applying my melee excellency via Dawn King's Strife and infinite melee mastery. Then attacking twice with a flurry with my wavecleaver daiklave thanks to Elegant Dance of Blade and bow. Adding two auto sux via infinite mastery along. Accuracy is 13 dice for thrown, and 14 for the melee attack. 8 sux on the thrown and 9 sux on the melee attack. Applying stunt dice on thrown roll.

The worm has both Dodge and Parry DV of 8, and has 30B/30L/20A soak, plus a ton of health levels.

Still holding on Join Battle Rolls from @RettieSetGo and @JayTee.

Also, please post your Speed with your attack. That way I'm not thinking its a Spd 5 when you have a Spd 3 attack, or something like that.

Aredin

Turning to gaze at the Death Knight 'advisor' and the Dragon-Blooded attendant, Aredin continued speaking. "I was not aware that gods still had the gall to question Solar authority much less possess one. Tell me, advisor, guard... are either of you responsible for this? or even aware of it for that matter?" Aredin paused to remove a wine skin from his magic pockets and take a sip. "I mean really, Filial doesn't have much to fear from me, but a spirit pushing his luck with manipulating the Exalted sure does." Aredin gave a malicious grin, his anima fading to darken the room. "So you can either come out and face me politely, or I will make it my mission to turn you into a Sidereal's new toy."

Flashing vengeance Draw makes my thrown attack unexpected and bypasses DVs. Cascade of cutting terror doubles extra successes from my thrown roll. 16 sux + 10L +4L from carbuncle + 2 from gauntlets + 2 from armor = 34 dice. Rolling 4 dice of lethal damage for thrown attack. My daiklave gives my defending opponent an extrenal penalty of 4 dice, lowering the worm's DV to 4, giving me 5 successes over DV. I'm reduced to minimum damage of my daiklave, which is 3 dice.

The worm lets out a scream of pain as the attacks rip into its skin. Gore sprays across the chamber, but the wounds seal up almost as quick as they are made.

While I hate to tie up a battle, we need to wait for our last two to make their JB rolls. Probably by tomorrow we'll be back on the move.

In the Pyramid

Filial jumps to his feet, snarling in rage. "You dare talk to us like that? Han-Tha does not control me, we work together to bring my rule across Creation!"

Give me a Int + either Lore or Occult, whichever one is higher.

With the mention of the name 'Han-Tha', you immediately recognize it as a dark god from the First Age that has been on the Top Ten Most Wanted List for years. There have been many attempts to destroy the god, but so far, he has proved to be sneaky as a snake and has been able to slip away from the hit squads. He is a Creature of Darkness, preaching cannibalism as a basic tenant of his cult. It is possible that Filial is possessed against his will, but it sounds like he has been duped into allowing the god to Ride him, giving them both more power.

Aredin

"Filial, Han-Tha is a bottom feeding coward. If he was really interested in securing your rule, there would be no opposition in this city left. Instead he has used you to create a source of death for him to feed on. He tortures the minds of your followers into a cult following for himself, elevating his own sick priorities. He had you take an advisor who is sworn to another liege! You brought in a probable spy on his watch and advice! Think on how long you've been here and what has been accomplished. Now think back to what I showed you." Aredin spread his arms wide assailing the group with the image of the Rathess from the Age of Dreams. "We could have this again! You could see your rightful place on the horizon within mere moments if you side with us. You would sit on a throne of wonders with people who actually understand and value you as part of something greater." Aredin moved to view the palaces on the Blessed Isle, showing a meeting in the Deliberative chamber. "What do you want Filial, a dark puppet master putting you at risk for his own ends to put you on a throne of rot and corpses, or a team that will build an empire of wonders with you? All you have to do is call me friend and the lies will end."

Activating Performance Excellency and Heart Compelling Method for a total of 14m

Goal is to invoke the emotional response of 'betrayed by Han-Tha'. Also I should have been asking this before, but is there a stunt bonus for this action? Especially considering what has led up to it.

[dice]5687[/dice]

Note the reduction in difficulty from Jewel of the Lawgiver's Authority still applies, giving the equivalent of 2 more successes. As well as any Appearance based penalties.

At the Pyramid

Talk about poking a beehive! Wow.
Filial looks mad enough to kill you with his bare hands. "You dare speak of me this way? The only reason I don't strike you down is the fact that I swore an oath to allow you safe passage. Get out before I change my mind!" You may have touched a nerve with that last comment. Just maybe. (} :) )

Shadow That Walks rises smoothly from the floor. "Let us not lose control of ourselves. Aredin, please come with me." The dark figure moves to your side and takes you by the elbow and begins to pull you out of the chamber. In a quiet voice, she says, "While you may be a powerful Exalt, I do wonder if you would be able to hold your own against the three of them working together. Tell me, how is it that a Solar has evaded the Wyld Hunt for so long to gain such a powerful level of Essence?"

Aredin

Aredin looked at Shadow that Walks, seeing this as a better opportunity for the moment he decided to follow her. "You already saw my story, I take it you either don't believe it or don't quite have a grasp on the full ramifications of it. Funny how I thought you would somehow be involved with the whole crazed foot soldiers thing. Forgive me, as it seems I misjudged you." Aredin then paused in speech after they had left the chamber. "Or did I..." Aredin looked at her with a smirk. "What is your actual goal here?"

At the Pyramid

The woman in black can be heard chuckling from inside her mask. "My goal is to serve the Mistress of Tears, and at the moment, it is her desire that I offer my technical expertise to Filial Wisdom." She doesn't say anything else until you are both out of the audience chamber and are heading down the steps. "I cannot guess what my Mistress' true purpose is, but it is always a wise thing to keep tabs on a powerful neighbor, is it not? Is it true that you hope to restore Rathess to what it once was? Perhaps she would be more inclined to speak with you instead of that overinflated fool in there. My Mistress has long been interested in Rathess; few in this Age have the same level of knowledge of this city than she does."

Aredin

Aredin stroked his chin for a moment in thought. "Hm, if you have time to spare away from..." Aredin lazily and dismissively gestures toward the throne room. "I s'pose I can entertain negotiations with you, but I would ask a small favor to put us on an equal playing field. Show me your caste mark, if you have one."

Base of the Pyramid

Shadow pauses, "Very well." In a moment, there is a dark circle on the forehead of the mask that leaks a trickle of blood down the face. "Among those that know of such things, I am known as one of the Midnight Caste, a priestess of the Neverborn under the watchful eye of my Mistress. You have a Circle with you, do you not? Otherwise, how could you possibly hope to be able to rebuild the city all on your own? Where are the rest of your Circle, and are they as powerful as you are?"

Aredin

Aredin looked at the mark in horror, his eyes widening as his voice softly escaped his mouth, "No... The corruption has deepened this far? Y-you are a corrupted Zenith caste are you not?" Aredin shook of the menacing hopelessness that sunk into his mind and began answering questions. "I can't say where exactly they are at the moment as I am unsure, though I could make my way to them. As for their power, I am certain they could turn those three in the throne room into a fine bloody mist without my help. So, now I ask a question of you, how do you normally contact your mistress? In person or some sort of magic to communicate?"

At the Pyramid

Shadow That Walks says, "I have several means to contact my Mistress. By spell, viewing mirror and by messenger ghost. Each one has a different meaning to how urgent the message is. I do wish to warn you, however. Filial Wisdom and Han-Tha are a force not to be trifled with lightly. Do so carefully. So, now that the dire warnings are out of the way, are you one of the ancient Sleepers that I have heard of? My Mistress is very anxious to know more about you if you are."

Aredin

"Before we get to that, I could have roasted Han-Tha without so much as touching Filial Wisdom. One arrow, maybe three, and Jontom would be dead. Count the fact that I have companions, and the odds look really bad for them." Aredin frowned still thinking about how far he had been set back in his goal over the last 1500 years. "So, back to your question, I am surprised your Mistress knows that much, considering how many wards are lyin around this place. Though, if you two want to meet with me on that note I will expect standard diplomatic hospitality. If you both are willing to meet in good faith, I will do likewise. Wouldn't want the threat of violence to distract us from the real fun now would we?" Aredin offered with his usual smirk, hand extended for a handshake.
