Dreams of the Second Age - Additional IC

Zen-Aku

The monster was staggered, giving Zen enough time to strike once more. Realizing that the monster would regenerate the few wounds that he made on it, he focused his essence and made it burn. His daiklave, despite it being made of Jade, began to glow gold as his essence was channeled through the blade itself. He called upon the essence within his body to burn the creature's very soul with the radiance of his anima, and struck twice.

Striking twice and enhancing both blows with Enemy Castigating Solar Judgement (6m), Golden Destruction Cut (2m), and two extra successes from Infinite Melee Mastery. My daiklave reduces DV to 4. Rolling 14 and 13 dice for a total of 9 and 8 sux.

First blow hits with 5 successes, the second hits with 2 successes. Go ahead and roll your damage.

Araneus

Araneus pushes close to the beast from the shadows, pulling a prayer strip from an unseen pocket, which glows with a violent purple energy as it attaches itself to his wrackstaff, which then begins to glow with an even more intense fire supplemented by both the charm and the starmetal within it. He then leaps from the shadows, twisting across the landscape and twirling the staff down in a blast of Celestial Energy that brings the weapon across the beasts back in a thundering crack as he swings up and over, landing on the opposite side of the beast.

Activating Life Severing Blow supplemented with VBoS Form, for 3m.

[dice]5701[/dice]

Golden destruction cut triples my extra successes and Solar Judgment makes my attacks holy. 15 sux + 11L + 4L + 4 bonus = 34 - 20A = 14 dice.

Second attack is the same modifiers, therefore I also roll 14 dice for the second attack as well.... Sorry Sherwood in advance.

Zen's sword burns with holy glory in the darkened tunnel as he swings on the monstrous thing. Once more, it screams out in pain as the blades bite deep, but this time, the wounds don't seem to be closing up like they were before. Obviously the Holy nature of your attack has done extra harm to the beast.

Araneus's attack is also quite brutal, smashing into the thing with bone-crushing force. You hit with 4 successes over its DV. Go ahead and roll damage.

Also forgot to put it in, my speed was 4. And 13 overwhelming, so I'm thinking I just did the minimum, not entirely sure still how that alters anything.

[dice]5704[/dice]

Speed change has been entered, and holy crap this monster is going to die before it gets off a single hit at this rate.

The monster is quite hurt, but it is still moving.

Rine, confidant that his comrades had this beast well in hand, sent forth an Eyeless Minion to act as a distraction to allow his allies full command of the battlefield.

Eyeless Minion stats are typically determined at the casting, but since I didn't specify I figured I would use the stats for a mortal soldier as a compromise. Let me know if this should change.

Eyeless Minion Punch: Speed 5, Accuracy 5, Damage 3b, Defense 6, Rate 3

[dice]5706[/dice]

The Minion charges forward, and is swatted aside by the long bony tail of the creature. But, while it is somewhat distracted by that, Pyter charges forward and slices his sword down the side of the undead construct. Bile and gore come spraying out, but the monster is still struggling.

In fact, the beast turns its attention towards Zen, trying to bite him with one of its many gaping mouths. Thirteen successes vs your DV.

Zen-Aku

The necrotic titan's attack was not missed by Zen's keen vision and sight and he bared his sword forward. Although he was more accustomed to parrying swords and weapons than a gaping maw of rotting flesh, Zen-Aku easily pushes the mouth aside, turning the maw from its intended course with a single swing of his daiklave. It only snaps at empty air rather than flesh.

With Protection of Celestial Bliss, Zen's parry DV value with his daiklave is 13. With a 2 die stunt, and my Infinite Melee mastery I have an effective DV of 17. The attack does not connect.

Zen struck thrice with his daiklave, each strike imbued with essence as he began to methodically cut down the foe before him with deft but extremely powerful strikes. Each one was as deadly as the last, as Zen struck three times in quick succession as his sword burned with his essence. His anima swirled around him at the use of essence to power his blows as his caste mark burned on his brow, depicting the burning sun of Dawn.

Enhancing first two blows with Enemy Castigating Solar judgement (6m), and all three attacks with Golden Destruction (3m) cut to triple extra successes. My daiklave reduces the DV to 4. Rolling 12, 11, 10 dice with 2 auto successes on each roll due to infinite mastery. Two dice stunt applied to first attack. 13 sux, 6 sux, and 4 sux.

All three sword strikes hit home. Go ahead and roll your damage.

(27 + 10L + 4L + 4 bonus) - 20A = 25 dice

(9 + 10L + 4L + 4 bonus) - 20A = 7 dice

(6 + 10L + 4L + 4 bonus) - 30L => minimum damage of 3 dice.

[dice]5714[/dice]

11A and 2L dmg.

Huge gaping wounds are ripped into the side of the thing, making it writhe in pain. It is struggling much less now, its strength fading quickly.

Araneus

Araneus turns around after landing across the worm's body, and then leaps up again, his staff still glowing violently as he lands at the far end to give his attack some strength behind it, and runs from the tail of the giant undead beast to the head, a blur of black obscurity as he moves with the grace of the gods up the beasts back, and with a thrust and a slash across the back of what he assumes is its head, the bladed end of his staff gouges deep and slices upwards as the small Sidereal flies over the beast and lands with a backflip over the worm, his feet stirring up dust and dirt as he slides into stance next to Zen, his staff twirled around and held behind him with a steep grin.

In the Underways

That last strike with the wrackstaff slams into what would pass as the head of a normal animal with a sickening crack and the feel of bones breaking. The beast wobbles in place for a moment, then the artificial life in its eyes finally goes out as it crashes to the ground to lie motionless.

Moving out of combat time.

Do you take any time to examine the body, or do you continue onto the warded chamber?

At the Pyramid

Shadow That Walks takes Aredin's hand with a firm shake. "I have taken over a nearby apartment as my domicile while away from the shadowlands that my Mistress controls. If you will come with me, I have a device from the First Age that allows for long distance communication that I use to keep in touch with my Mistress. It will provide you the opportunity to see if she is willing to speak with you, and if so, she may even extend an invitation to you to come to see her in person. She is truly gifted and knowledgeable, and I believe she will be quite interested in conversing with you at length."

Assuming you accept the invitation to go with Shadow, you find yourself in one of the larger apartments nearby the Pyramid of the Sun that used to house several Dragon Kings. Now it has been taken over by Shadow and several attending ghosts. The Abyssal leads you into one of the adjoining rooms where you find a large mirror inlaid with Jade. You recognize it as a common communication device from the First Age. So long as your intended participant has a similar mirror, you have real time two way visual contact with the other person. Shadow kneels down in front of the mirror, and after a few moments, the reflection wavers and becomes a image of a lovely young woman that appears to be in her mid to late twenties with long dark hair and pale skin. In a soft, sensual voice, the woman in the mirror speaks, "Ah, Shadow. What news do you bring to me today?"

Shadow takes a few moments to explain the events from earlier in the day when you first arrived at the Pyramid of the Sun, and how you have made the claim that you are a Elder Exalt from the First Age. "He is here with me now, M'lady, and wishes to speak with you."

"And I am interested in speaking with him. Please have him step forward so I may see your guest."

When you move forward into view of the mirror, the Deathlord looks at you with a raised eyebrow. "My, my, my. Aredin, it has been a long time."

Araneus

Araneus wipes off the bile from his staff and puts it away, before moving up to examine the body, using all his medical knowledge to perhaps surmise some nature of the beast, pulling out a monocle and a fake mustache as he examines it, flitting back and forth from one end of the beast to the next and over the top of it and looking under it, all the while going "Hum. Humph. Ahum. Ah yes. Aha." in a very stuffy monotone.

Spending motes for first excellencyx3 to give it a medical exam.

Aredin

Aredin scratched at his head, "Yes, yes it has. So long in fact that my memory seems to have slipped. Though I must say, with your impeccable choice in understudies I am deeply shamed to not remember one with such an eye for manners and tact. That said, I have a lot of questions for you and as much as I'd like to trust you on your word and our undoubtedly legendary history as acquaintances, you know how this has to go. For now , let's stick to the one oath. Can we agree to speak in complete honesty for the duration of this meeting? Silence or refusal to answer an inquiry shall remain an acceptable response."

The Underways

The examination of the body reveals that whomever it was that put it together, they were quite skilled in the necromatic arts. This creature would have been more than a match for a group of lesser Exalts with its level of damage resistance, and it was only due to luck and skill that it didn't get a hit of its own in on one of you.

Aredin

The woman in the mirror gives you a warm smile. "You have nothing to fear from me, so long as you behave yourself and remember your manners, and I will be as honest with you as you are prepared to hear. Come to my Holdfast; Shadow can guide you past the trials designed to keep the unwanted out. Bring your friends if you would like. I shall extend the invitation to them, too.

The Mistress of Tears

Araneus

"Nothing special about it. Just some necromonstrosity meant to be vicious. Let's keep going." Araneus puts away the monocle and fake mustache and waits for the others by the way out unless they want to examine it themselves.

Aredin

Aredin folded his arms as his caste mark flared to seal an agreement, "That should do for assured mutual negotiations. Old habits and whatnot." Aredin said with a shrug. Looking over to Shadow that Walks Aredin spoke, "We can prepare to leave, though I need a moment in private before we go."

Assuming he was granted a moment to himself, Aredin would fly himself out into the trees of the jungle making sure to tie his residual anima to the trunk of the tree to prevent eavesdropping. Reaching into his pocket he would fish out a small starmetal trinket inlaid with orichalcum wiring and a small prayer booklet for the instructions. Taking a moment to carefully recite the prayer a couple times mentally, Aredin would use the ritual prayer to gain Taru-Kul's attention.

Aredin

"Taru-Kul the intended recipient for the following message is Nikola Trotsky. Nikola, this is Aredin. I made contact with Filial Wisdom, everything started out fairly normal, but he refused my offer to relieve his mental burdens. The short of it is that he is actually possessed by Han-Tha, a traitorous coward god, now a creature of darkness. The god was on the most wanted list from the First Age if our other associates feel like digging up more in depth information. Point of the matter is, when I confronted Han-Tha who was occupying Filial Wisdom, he became significantly more violent and arrogant. In addition to possession, I suspect the enterprising carrion feeder may have a spell or two at work. If you guys have to deal with Filial before I get back. Hit him with a heavy dose of counter magic and throw any and possibly every means at your disposal to make the god materialize. The only other Essence user I saw was a single Dragon-Blooded attendant named Jontom. Well, he also had an adviser from a death lord. However, their purpose there seemed to be solely to keep tabs on him. After speaking to the adviser, I've come to suspect these Abyssals that are as strong as Solars, were once Solar Exalted, at least their shards were. I also learned the local Death Lord, Mistress of Tears both knows about the existence of 'Sleeper Exalts' and remembers me by name and face. I'm currently following up on this, I'll let you know when I have more information. Oh, uh...and...if I don't make it back from this...make sure to put my stuff to good use... That is all Taru-Kul." Aredin finished grimly, putting away the transceiver.

Zen-Aku

Zen nods silently before turning to Araneus, "Let's go. We've wasted enough time with that abomination. Do you want me to burn the corpse? It's rotting away as we speak.

"Perhaps later. I'd like the chance to study and learn from it. This new era has secrets I've never seen before, something I did not think possible in this fallen age."

Araneus

"Agreed, then. Perhaps if it is still here we will have time after we reach the vaults." Araneus leads the way on, continuing to scout ahead.

The Underways

Leaving the patchwork body behind. the group makes their way deeper into the depths of the Underways. There are no other encounters as you go along except for a pair of wild Raptok Dragon Kings that immediately run when they see you coming. Over the course of the next hour, you finally get to the section of chambers that are warded from outside viewing. It takes only a few more minutes of searching before you come across a large set of double doors made of Orichalcum marked with the holy symbol of the Unconquered Sun. It looks very similar to the doors that sealed off your own sleeping chambers from the outside world. Pyter runs hand over the surface of the door and nods to himself. "This is the same kind of seal as was on the rooms you were in. It will take a infusion of Essence to unlock it, and the energy pumped into the door will most likely go to power the next set of barriers and traps. I'll go ahead and start to channel my Essence into the lock to open it.

It will take a total of 30m to unlock the door. Do you take turns putting in a little bit of Essence from each of you, or do you have one person dump a load of Essence to open the door?
While Pyter is at the door, a messenger sprite suddenly appears next to Nikola. In Aredin's voice, it relays the following message:

Nikola, this is Aredin. I made contact with Filial Wisdom, everything started out fairly normal, but he refused my offer to relieve his mental burdens. Aredin

With your message sent, you are once more in the company of Shadow That Walks. She offers to either fly you to the Shadowland that the Mistress of Tears claims as her own, or, if you prefer, she can let you travel in your own device and just give you directions. Which would you prefer?

Zen-Aku

Zen acknowledges the information with a nod but mentally files it away for later analysis. He has more important manners at hand to deal with, primarily getting this door open. He lays his hand on the door and pours his essence into the lock, activating the mechanisms within. His anima, wings with golden swords as feathers, begins to materializes around him.

Pouring 10 motes into the door.
